- Abstract
Fosfomycin is one of the oldest antibiotics, although it has been available intravenously in Poland for a year. Its properties differ significantly from the oral form. It has much wider indications for use due to its very good penetration into organs and a wide range of action. It is distinguished by its ability to penetrate into cells in the biofilm and its activity against multi-resistant strains, including carbapenemase-positive strains. Unfortunately, it is also easy to select fosfomycin resistance during monotherapy with an antibiotic, hence its use in combination therapy. It is also necessary to assess the susceptibility to fosfomycin in order to optimize the therapy and monitor the development of bacterial resistance. The paper presents the microbiological and pharmacological characteristics of fosfomycin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
