Objectives: Clinical high‐risk of psychosis (CHRp) samples can be heterogeneous, consisting essentially of people with not only psychotic‐like experiences but also nonspecific symptoms that may reflect common mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, or substance abuse pathologies. Few studies have attempted to analyze and understand psychosis risk in relation to both environmental (ER) and psychopathological risk (PsR) factors. This study aimed to determine the clinical risk of psychosis in adolescents. Methods: A representative sample of 1824 Spanish adolescents from the general population was evaluated using different scales to thoroughly examine the possible interaction of CHRp with various ER and PsR factors. Partial correlations were calculated to assess the relationships between the variables. A series of hierarchical linear regression models were then used to obtain a CHRp predictor model. Results: The CHRp predictor model indicated that PsR was the most significant determining factor, explaining 22% of the total associated variance of CHRp. However, the ER factor also emerged as a significant predictor of high‐risk psychosis (accounting for 9% of the variance). Conclusions: A predictive model for CHRp in adolescents was found, in which common psychological problems were presented as more determinant risk factors than ER disruptors. Furthermore, certain transdiagnostic processes, such as psychological inflexibility, may play a central role in the development of mental health problems, including psychosis. Understanding client variables relevant to clinical decision-making is a core feature of psychotherapy. The previous meta-analysis emphasized variables related to stages of psychotherapy, motivational stages of change, alliance, reactance, coping, attachment styles, and emotional stability in psychotherapy outcomes. However, a clinical measure that captures these empirically based clinical variances is missing. The present study describes the development and preliminary analysis of the Clinical Decision-Making Inventory (CDMI) in a sample of individuals engaged in a psychotherapeutic process. One hundred and twenty-three participants (M = 20.28, SD = 5.80) engaged in a psychotherapy process, were assessed in a cross-sectional design. On one hand, the stages of psychotherapy, motivational stages of change, reactance, coping, attachment styles, and emotional stability were negatively correlated with symptomatology, cognitive fusion, interpersonal problems, coping mechanisms, and expressive suppression. On the other hand, correlated positively with metacognition and cognitive reappraisal. Attachment style and emotional stability predicted symptomatology. Socio-cognitive difficulties in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are heterogenuous and often co-occur with irritability symptoms, such as angry/grouchy mood and temper outbursts. However, the specific relations between individual symptoms are not well-represented in conventional methods analyzing aggregated autistic symptoms and ASD diagnosis. Moreover, the cognitive-behavioral mechanisms linking ASD to irritability are largely unknown. This study investigated the dynamics between autistic (Social Responsiveness Scale) and irritability (Affective Reactivity Index) symptoms and executive functions (Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery) in a sample of children and adolescents with ASD, their unaffected siblings, and neurotypical peers (N = 345, aged 6–18 years, 78.6% male). Three complementary networks across the entire sample were computed: (1) Gaussian graphical network estimating the conditional correlations between symptom nodes; (2) Relative importance network computing relative influence between symptoms; (3) Bayesian directed acyclic graph estimating predictive directionality between symptoms. Networks revealed numerous partial correlations within autistic (rs =.07–.56) and irritability (rs =.01–.45) symptoms and executive functions (rs = −.83 to.67) but weak connections between clusters. This segregated pattern converged in all directed and supplementary networks. Plausible predictive paths were found between social communication difficulties to autism mannerisms and between "angry frequently" to "lose temper easily." Autistic and irritability symptoms are two relatively independent families of symptoms. It is unlikely that executive dysfunctions explain elevated irritability in ASD. Findings underscore the need for researching other mood and cognitive-behavioral bridge symptoms, which may inform individualized treatments for co-occurring irritability in ASD. Abstract Introduction Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a leading cause of acute lower respiratory infection in children worldwide. Understanding its prevalence, variations, and characteristics is vital, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective The study aimed to investigate the RSV positivity rate, subtype prevalence, age and gender distribution, symptomatology, and co-infection rates during pre-pandemic and pandemic periods. Methods We analyzed data from 15,381 patients tested for RSV between 2017 and 2023. Results Our analysis revealed a 7.2% average RSV positivity rate in the pre-pandemic period, with significant fluctuations during the pandemic (1.5% in 2020 to 32.0% in 2021). We observed variations in RSVA and RSVB detection rates. The 0–4 years’ age group was consistently the most affected, with a slight male predominance. Fever and cough were common symptoms. Therapeutic interventions, particularly antiviral usage and ventilation requirements, decreased during the pandemic. We also identified variations in co-infection rates with other respiratory viruses. Conclusion Our study offers critical insights into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on RSV prevalence, subtype distribution, patient characteristics, and clinical management. These findings underscore the need for ongoing surveillance and adaptive public health responses.

AIM: To characterize the distribution of meibomian gland (MG) area loss (MGL) and its relationship with demographic characteristics, mites, and symptoms. METHODS: This retrospective observational study included patients who visited the Dry Eye Clinic of Shenzhen Eye Hospital between June 2020 and August 2021. General patient characteristics, ocular symptoms, Demodex test results of the eyelid edges, and the results of a comprehensive ocular surface analysis were collected. MGL was analyzed using Image J software. RESULTS: This study enrolled 1204 outpatients aged 20-80 (40.70±13.44)y, including 357 males (29.65%) and 847 females (70.35%). The patients were classified into mild (n=155; 12.87%), moderate (n=795; 66.03%), severe (n=206; 17.11%), and extremely severe (n=48; 3.99%) MGL groups. Abstract Background To explore the demographic and clinical features of current depressive episode that discriminate patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) from those with bipolar I (BP-I) and bipolar II (BP-II) disorder who were misdiagnosed as having MDD . Methods The Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) assessment was performed to establish DSM-IV diagnoses of MDD, and BP-I and BP-II, previously being misdiagnosed as MDD. Demographics, depressive symptoms and psychiatric comorbidities were compared between 1463 patients with BP-I, BP-II and MDD from 8 psychiatric settings in mainland China. A multinomial logistic regression model was performed to assess clinical correlates of diagnoses. Results A total of 14.5% of the enrolled patients initially diagnosed with MDD were eventually diagnosed with BP. Broad illness characteristics including younger age, higher prevalence of recurrence, concurrent dysthymia, suicidal attempts, agitation, psychotic features and psychiatric comorbidities, as well as lower prevalence of insomnia, weight loss and somatic symptoms were featured by patients with BP-I and/or BP-I, compared to those with MDD. Comparisons between BP-I and BP-II versus MDD indicated distinct symptom profiles and comorbidity patterns with more differences being observed between BP-II and MDD, than between BP-I and MDD . Conclusion The results provide evidence of clinically distinguishing characteristics between misdiagnosed BP-I and BP- II versus MDD. The findings have implications for guiding more accurate diagnoses of bipolar disorders.

Alder yellows (ALY) phytoplasma (16SrV-C) is associated with ALY, a disease of several Alnus (alder) species in Europe and A. rubra in North America. In all affected species, the symptoms are similar. However, latent infections are common. ALY phytoplasma includes different strains which may be occasionally transmitted to grapevines leading to some grapevine yellows diseases. In the current study, visual symptom assessment and PCR-based methods using universal and group-specific phytoplasma primers were used to update and extend knowledge on the occurrence, impact, and genetic diversity of ALY phytoplasma in declining and non-symptomatic A. glutinosa and A. cordata trees in the Basilicata and Campania regions of southern Italy. ALY phytoplasma was detected in 80% of alder trees examined. In symptomatic trees, no other cause of disease was observed. More than half of alder trees that tested phytoplasma-positive proved to be latently infected. A considerable genetic variability was observed among the newly recorded ALY phytoplasma strains in southern Italy in almost of the genes examined. These included 16S rRNA, 16S/23S rDNA spacer region, ribosomal protein rpsV (rpl22) and rpsC (rps3), map, imp, and groEL genes. Eleven new genotypes were identified at map gene sequence level. However, the genetic differences observed were not related to plant host species, geographical origin, and symptoms shown by infected alder trees. Symptoms of depression in adolescents are widely variable, but they are often interactive and clustered. The analysis of interactions and clusters among individual symptoms may help predict treatment outcomes. We aimed to determine clusters of individual symptoms in adolescent depression and their changes in the response to pharmacological treatment. A total of 95 adolescents, aged 12–17 years, with major depressive disorder were included. Participants were treated with escitalopram, and depressive symptoms were assessed at baseline (V1) and 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks (V6). The severity of depression was assessed using the Children's Depression Rating Scale-Revised. To construct network and clustering structures among symptoms, the Gaussian graphical model and Exploratory Graph Analysis with the tuning parameter to minimize the extended Bayesian information criterion were adopted. Exploratory Graph Analysis revealed that symptoms of depression comprised four clusters: impaired activity, somatic concerns, subjective mood, and observed affect. The main effect of visit with decreased symptom severity was significant in all four clusters; however, the degree of symptom improvement differed among the four clusters. The effect size of score differences from V1 to V6 was the highest in the subjective mood (Cohen's d = 1.075), and lowest in impaired activity (d = 0.501) clusters. The present study identified four symptom clusters associated with adolescent depression and their differential changes related to antidepressant treatment. This finding suggests that escitalopram was the most effective at improving subjective mood among different clusters. IntroductionEndometriosis is a chronic gynecological condition that lacks a definitive cure and adversely impacts the quality of life (QoL) of those affected. This study delves into the experiences of individuals with endometriosis in Trinidad and Tobago, focusing on their quality of life, pain severity, and acceptance of illness.MethodsSurveys were distributed among 160 members of the Trinidad and Tobago Endometriosis Association. The survey instrument utilized was the WHOQOL-BREF, which measures QoL, pain severity, and acceptance of illness [the Acceptance of Illness Scale (AIS)].ResultsThe average age of respondents was 38.65 years. Quality of life scores averaged 3.41, with the “environment” aspect scoring highest (12.84) and “social relationships” scoring lowest (11.88). Cronbach's alpha indicated excellent internal consistency for “environment” (ɑ = 0.909) and the “AIS” (ɑ = 0.882). The independent samples t-test revealed lower mean QoL scores for unemployed participants. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences in mean QoL scores for “health status” and “years since endometriosis diagnosis.” All the QoL domains were positively correlated with each other. AbstractBurnout is an increasing public health problem. Although research indicate that cognitive and affective factors are related to burnout, there is a lack of knowledge about the extent to which specific cognitive and affective symptoms are related to burnout, and whether there are sex-related differences. An aim of this study was to identify specific self-reported cognitive and affective symptoms that are particularly associated with burnout, both in the population in general and in men and women separately. Another aim was to examine the risk of burnout for specific symptoms and total number of symptoms in the general population and in men and women separately. Cross-sectional data were used from a large population-based questionnaire study consisting of 3406 participants (18–79 years) randomly selected from a general population in northern Sweden. Eleven cognitive and affective symptoms were assessed with a subsection of the Environmental Hypersensitivity Symptom Inventory, and the 22-item Shirom-Melamed Burnout Questionnaire (SMBQ) was used to assess burnout. The findings suggest that burnout is associated with a rather large number of cognitive and affective symptoms, in particular feeling tired/lethargic, having concentration difficulties, sleep disturbance, feeling depressed and being absent minded. Women with burnout (SMBQ score ≥ 4) reported higher prevalence of feeling tired/lethargic and sleep disturbance. The results add to the understanding of affective and cognitive symptomatology in burnout, which might have implications for early identification and prevention of burnout and exhaustion disorder.

Network analysis may identify specific symptoms involved in the maintenance and development of psychopathology. This approach, however, has not been applied to the study of young Black children, a population facing unique challenges and developmental risks. It is also unclear whether network analysis identifies early symptoms in Black children that are linked to their longer-term difficulties and strengths in adolescence. We conducted a network analysis of emotional and behavioral difficulties in 1238 Black (non-Hispanic) children from the age-3 assessment in the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study (47 % female). We also explored whether early childhood symptoms predict subsequent caregiver-reported internalizing and externalizing problems, and youth-reported social competencies and extracurricular and community involvement, at the age-15 assessment. We identified specific symptoms of externalizing and emotional reactivity as central in the network. Symptoms of emotional reactivity were also involved in comorbidity, bridging different communities of symptoms. Using elastic net models, we identified specific central and bridge symptoms, but also peripheral network symptoms, that contributed uniquely to the prediction of internalizing and externalizing problems in adolescence. Early childhood symptoms were less predictive of positive outcomes in adolescence. This study identified central and bridge symptoms in young Black children, an underrepresented population in network analysis research. Some of these central and bridge symptoms, but also peripheral network symptoms, may be useful targets in early interventions to prevent long-term difficulties. Conversely, network approaches to understanding early psychopathology may have less utility for predicting Black children's subsequent strengths in adolescence. • Network analysis was applied the study of psychopathology in young Black children. • Externalizing and emotional reactivity items were the most central symptoms. • Emotional reactivity symptoms also bridged different communities of symptoms. • Some central and bridge symptoms predicted psychopathology in adolescence, but were less predictive of future strengths. • Early interventions may benefit from focusing on the symptoms identified in our analyses. This article analyses some of the governmental issues at stake in contemporary institutional politics in its confrontation with the challenges of digitalisation. Through notions such as algorithmic governmentality (Rouvroy and Berns), platformisation (Bratton, Stiegler), extractivism, and the affect theory (Massumi), and following a symptomatologic method, we will try to establish and discuss some key points that could be useful in order to update certain concepts regarding micro- and biopolitics (Deleuze and Guattari, Foucault), the public sphere, and the management of social and individual bodies. Finally, we will try to understand how the manipulation of affects via the staging of possible catastrophic futures (Parisi) is used as a powerful neurosensory weapon, with performative effects for governing and modelling behaviours. If contemporary capitalism is capable of abstracting and extracting affects, of accumulating them and of creating value through this, which policies should we apply in this situation of uncertainty and of the manipulation of affectivity? The COVID-19 pandemic, declared a global health crisis by the WHO, has prompted significant shifts in lifestyle and health behaviors worldwide. This study investigates the relationship between dietary habits and manifestations of COVID-19 among nursing students in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Babylon, employing a descriptive cross-sectional methodology. Drawing from a sample of 100 students, data was collected using a structured questionnaire encompassing demographic information, COVID-19 symptoms, and dietary patterns. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS V.23 and Excel 2016. Results indicated a predominantly female (61%) sample, with most participants being unmarried (64%). Common COVID-19 symptoms reported included loss of smell and taste (for one week), cough with secretions, high temperature, and shortness of breath. The study observed discrepancies in symptom presentation compared to previous research, highlighting variations in manifestations among populations. Notably, individuals who consumed vegetables demonstrated a lower risk of COVID-19 complications, suggesting a potential protective role of vegetable intake against the virus. However, no significant correlations were found between demographic factors and COVID-19 manifestations. Based on the findings, recommendations are proposed to promote healthier dietary practices among individuals, emphasizing the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, and nutrient-rich foods to aid in COVID-19 recovery. Additionally, suggestions include regular meal consumption, hydration, and moderation of caffeine intake. In conclusion, this study underscores the importance of nutrition in mitigating the impact of COVID-19 and provides valuable insights into dietary behaviors among nursing students during the pandemic. The recurrent multiwave nature of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) necessitates updating its symptomatology. We characterize the effect of variants on symptom presentation, identify the symptoms predictive and protective of death, and quantify the effect of vaccination on symptom development. With the COVID‐19 cases reported up to August 25, 2022 in Hong Kong, an iterative multitier text‐matching algorithm was developed to identify symptoms from free text. Multivariate regression was used to measure associations between variants, symptom development, death, and vaccination status. A least absolute shrinkage and selection operator technique was used to identify a parsimonious set of symptoms jointly associated with death. Overall, 70.9% (54 450/76 762) of cases were symptomatic with 102 symptoms identified. Intrinsically, the wild‐type and delta variant caused similar symptoms among unvaccinated symptomatic cases, whereas the wild‐type and omicron BA.2 subvariant had heterogeneous patterns, with seven symptoms (fatigue, fever, chest pain, runny nose, sputum production, nausea/vomiting, and sore throat) more frequent in the BA.2 cohort. With ≥2 vaccine doses, BA.2 was more likely than delta to cause fever among symptomatic cases. Fever, blocked nose, pneumonia, and shortness of breath remained jointly predictive of death among unvaccinated symptomatic elderly in the wild‐type‐to‐omicron transition. Number of vaccine doses required for reducing occurrence varied by symptoms. We substantiate that omicron has a different clinical presentation compared to previous variants. Syndromic surveillance can be bettered with reduced reliance on symptom‐based case identification, increased weighing on symptoms predictive of death in outcome prediction, individual‐based risk assessment in care homes, and incorporating free‐text symptom reporting. 'Candidatus Phytoplasma prunorum' is one of the most destructive pathogens of Prunus species, where susceptible species render unproductive several years after infection. In epidemiology, the molecular characterization of phytoplasmas is based on sequence analysis of variable nonribosomal genes. In this study aceF, pnp, imp and secY genes were used for characterization of the 'Ca. P. prunorum' genotypes present in the Czech Republic. In total, 56 plant and 33 vector (Cacopsylla pruni) samples positive to 'Ca. P. prunorum' collected in seven localities were used in the study. Based on sequence analysis, four aceF, two pnp, six imp, and three secY genotypes were identified in analyzed samples. The most abundant in both plant and insect samples were the A6, P2, I4, and S2 genotypes. Most of the Czech 'Ca. P. prunorum' haplotypes clustered together in the haplotype network analysis. Next, two isolates representing the two most abundant Czech haplotypes (A6-P2-I4-S2 and A5-P2-I4-S2) were used in the susceptibility test of three apricot rootstock types (St. Julien A, M-VA-1, GF-305). Susceptibility was analyzed by phytoplasma quantification using quantitative real-time PCR and evaluation of symptom manifestation. Based on the results, the influence of the rootstock type on the phytoplasma titer and symptom manifestation was greater than of the phytoplasma isolate, while the year of analysis had no influence on the results. Background: Degeneration of the intervertebral disc (IVD), resulting from various factors, including genetic and environmental causes, is a significant musculoskeletal disorder. It is characterized by a gradual deterioration of the structure and a weakening in the function of the IVD, leading to a decline in the quality of life (QOL) or disability. Aim of the study: This study aimed to perform a review of scientific reports and a summary of the current knowledge regarding IVD degeneration in terms of etiopathogenesis, clinical symptoms, and various diagnostic methods. Materials and methods: The literature review was performed by searching key medical databases such as pubmed, MEDLINE, and Scopus. A search strategy was defined, encompassing keywords, synonyms, and controlled keywords (MeSH terms). The search included the last 20 years and focused on aspects of etiopathogenesis, clinical symptoms, and diagnostic methods. papers meeting the inclusion criteria underwent a full-text analysis. Data and information gathered from the literature analysis were synthesized to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge on the researched subject. Results: The process of IVD degeneration is extremely complex, involving biochemical, metabolic, and morphological changes that impact its structure and function. It entails a gradual loss of water in the nucleus pulposus (dehydration), resulting in an impaired shock-absorbing function and leading to the formation of breaks in the annulus fibrosus, allowing herniation of the nucleus pulposus. for years, mechanical injuries, especially work-related injuries, have been considered the primary factors causing IVD degeneration. Recent findings emphasize the significant role of genetic factors, with the identification of several genes encoding structural proteins of the IVD. mutations in these genes may accelerate degeneration. Current clinical research results indicate a correlation between aortic calcifications and episodes of low back pain (LBP) and between lumbar artery stenosis, IVD degeneration, and subsequent LBP. Conclusions: understanding the complexity of IVD degeneration and its neurological consequences is crucial in planning effective treatment. It is essential to monitor the latest research to systematically update the etioknowledge and practical guidelines in the discussed area. Strawberry production in Albania is very important and growing rapidly, while data on strawberry diseases are lacking. In 2022, symptoms of leaf necrosis, root rot, and wilt were observed on strawberry plants of cultivars 'Savana', 'Sabrina', and 'Fortuna' in greenhouses near Vajkan, Fier, Albania. The disease incidence was estimated at 50%. Only isolates of Rhizoctonia spp. were obtained from symptomatic plants. The isolates formed fast‐growing, white colonies with binucleate, typically branching hyphae and no sclerotia, resembling Rhizoctonia AG‐A. BLAST analyses of the ITS rDNA of isolate RhizAl (accession number OR231136) revealed the highest nt homology of 99%–100% (100% query coverage) with binucleate Rhizoctonia AG‐A isolates, while the neighbour‐joining phylogenetic analyses confirmed the identification. The pathogenicity of the isolate RhizAl was demonstrated by inoculations of disease‐free strawberry daughter plants (cv. 'Fortuna') that developed mild wilting and leaf necrosis 45 days after inoculation while plants collapsed with root necrosis 60 days after inoculation. In this study, binucleate Rhizoctonia AG‐A was detected for the first time as a causal agent of black root rot of strawberries in Albania and in general, and studies on the general importance of Rhizoctonia spp. in different crops in Albania are needed. Cowpea is an important food and socio-economic crop in West Africa. However, its yield is low due to biotic and abiotic constraints. The present work was carried out in the field and in the laboratory at the University of Dschang, Cameroon, with the general aim of identifying disease symptoms on cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) in the field during the growth stages. Two varieties were used (MTA-22 and TN5-78) in a completely randomized block design with three replications. The various symptoms of the diseases identified were described, their incidence and severity assessed, and a morphological characterization of the pathogens responsible for fungal diseases based on microscopic observation of fruiting bodies was carried out. At the end of this work, seven fungal diseases were identified and described. Four (4) fungal disease pathogens were clearly isolated and characterized: Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium moniliforme, Cercospora canescens and Rhizoctonia solani These results will contribute to the development of a control program and the improvement of cowpea productivity with a view to combating malnutrition and reducing poverty in rural areas. Apoharknessia eucalyptorum is associated with leaf spots on Eucalyptus dunnii in Southern Brazil; however, no data about its symptoms and severity are currently available. In this study, inoculation, symptomatology, and severity on leaves and stems of E. dunnii and leaves of Corymbia citriodora are analyzed and discussed. Detached and intact seedling leaves and seedling stems, with and without wounds, were inoculated with A. eucalyptorum. The severity of leaves was assessed based on the lesion area, whereas the severity on stems was considered by the size of the lesions. After inoculation, the following symptoms were observed on leaves with and without lesions: brown, circular or irregular lesions, occurring along the leaf margins, sparsely distributed, or coalescing throughout the leaf blade. The severity on detached leaves ranged from 13 to 63 % on E. dunnii and from 30 to 38 % on C. citriodora, whereas on intact seedling leaves the severity was observed only on wounded tissues, with 11.90 % on E. dunnii and 19.63 % on C. citriodora. Only inoculated stems of E. dunnii with wounds showed signs of the pathogen. This study confirms the pathogenicity of A. eucalyptorum on both E. dunnii and C. citriodora, a new host for the disease, and concludes that although the pathogen can be considered a primary pathogen based on detached leaf inoculations, the infection on non-wounded tissues is limited. Thus, the distribution of A. eucalyptorum and the possible impacts of the pathogen on Eucalyptus spp. plantations should be monitored. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: To study the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 on the routine of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and changes in symptoms and suicidal-related behavior, mainly in those with cleaning symptoms. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 58 patients completed an online self-report questionnaire that included the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised, Coronavirus Stress and Traumatic Events Scale, Coronavirus Health Impact Survey, Beck Anxiety and Beck Depression inventories, and Suicide-Related Behaviors Questionnaire. Comparisons were made with another pre-pandemic sample (n=524) regarding the last three measures. Results: During the pandemic, the patients spent more days inside their homes (χ2 = 33.39, p = 0.007), changed their alcohol consumption patterns (χ2 = 87.6, p < 0.001), and increased social media usage (χ2 = 68.83, p < 0.001). Participants with cleaning symptoms did not significantly differ from the others in relation to stress, anxiety/depressive symptoms, or suicidal-related behaviors. Finally, our sample did not differ from an equivalent OCD sample assessed before the pandemic in terms of anxiety and depressive symptom severity or suicidal-related behaviors. Conclusion: Overall, patients with OCD showed no lifestyle changes associated with higher stress levels during the pandemic. Patients with and without cleaning symptoms and patients before and during the pandemic presented similar results.

Brevetoxins (BTXs) constitute a family of lipid-soluble toxic cyclic polyethers mainly produced by Karenia brevis, which is the main vector for a foodborne syndrome known as neurotoxic shellfish poisoning (NSP) in humans. To prevent health risks associated with the consumption of contaminated shellfish in France, the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) recommended assessing the effects of BTXs via an acute oral toxicity study in rodents. Here, we investigated the effect of a single oral administration in both male and female mice with several doses of BTX-3 (100 to 1,500 µg kg−1 bw) during a 48 h observation period in order to provide toxicity data to be used as a starting point for establishing an acute oral reference dose (ARfD). We monitored biological parameters and observed symptomatology, revealing different effects of this toxin depending on the sex. Females were more sensitive than males to the impact of BTX-3 at the lowest doses on weight loss. For both males and females, BTX-3 induced a rapid, transient and dose-dependent decrease in body temperature, and a transient dose-dependent reduced muscle activity. Males were more sensitive to BTX-3 than females with more frequent observations of failures in the grip test, convulsive jaw movements, and tremors. BTX-3's impacts on symptomatology were rapid, appearing during the 2 h after administration, and were transient, disappearing 24 h after administration. The highest dose of BTX-3 administered in this study, 1,500 µg kg−1 bw, was more toxic to males, leading to the euthanasia of three out of five males only 4 h after administration. BTX-3 had no effect on water intake, and affected neither the plasma chemistry parameters nor the organs' weight. Osteoarthritis is considered a degenerative joint disease that is characterised by inflammation, chronic pain, and functional limitation. The increasing development of nanotechnology in drug delivery systems has provided new ideas and methods for osteoarthritis therapy. This review aimed to evaluate patents that have developed innovations, therapeutic strategies, and alternatives using nanotechnology in osteoarthritis treatment. The results show patents deposited from 2015 to November 2021 in the online databases European Patent Office and World Intellectual Property Organisation. A total of 651 patents were identified for preliminary assessment and 16 were selected for full reading and discussion. The evaluated patents are focused on the intraarticular route, oral route, and topical route for osteoarthritis treatment. The intraarticular route presented a higher patent number, followed by the oral and topical routes, respectively. Background Impaired social functioning is a major, but under-elucidated area of schizophrenia. It's typically understood as consequential to, eg, negative symptoms, but meta-analyses on the subject have not examined psychopathology in a broader perspective and there's severe heterogeneity in outcome measures. To enhance functional recovery from schizophrenia, a more comprehensive understanding of the nature of social functioning in schizophrenia is needed. Study Design In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched PubMed, PsycInfo, and Ovid Embase for studies providing an association between psychopathology and social functioning. Meta-analyses of the regression and correlation coefficients were performed to explore associations between social functioning and psychopathology, as well as associations between their subdomains. Study Results Thirty-six studies with a total of 4742 patients were included. Overall social functioning was associated with overall psychopathology (95% CI [−0.63; −0.37]), positive symptoms (95% CI [−0.39; −0.25]), negative symptoms (95% CI [−0.61; -0.42]), disorganized symptoms (95% CI [−0.54; −0.14]), depressive symptoms (95% CI [−0.33; −0.11]), and general psychopathology (95% CI [−0.60; −0.43]). There was significant heterogeneity in the results, with I2 ranging from 52% to 92%. Conclusions This is the first systematic review and meta-analysis to comprehensively examine associations between psychopathology and social functioning. The finding that all psychopathological subdomains seem to correlate with social functioning challenges the view that impaired social functioning in schizophrenia is mainly a result of negative symptoms. In line with classical psychopathological literature on schizophrenia, it may be more appropriate to consider impaired social functioning as a manifestation of the disorder itself. The relationship between high body weight and mental health has been studied for several decades. Improvements in the quality of epidemiological, mechanistic and psychological research have brought greater consistency to our understanding of the links. Large-scale population-based epidemiological research has established that high body weight is associated with poorer mental health, particularly depression and subclinical depressive symptoms. There is some evidence for bidirectional relationships, but the most convincing findings are that greater body weight leads to psychological distress rather than the reverse. Particular symptoms of depression and distress may be specifically related to greater body weight. The psychological stress induced by weight stigma and discrimination contributes to psychological distress, and may in turn handicap efforts at weight control. Heightened systemic inflammation and dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis are biological mechanisms that mediate in part the relationship of greater body weight with poorer mental health. Changing negative societal attitudes to high body weights would improve the wellbeing of people living with obesity, and promote more effective weight-inclusive attitudes and behaviours in society at large, particularly in healthcare settings. In Côte d'Ivoire, cocoa farming is a widespread practice in rural households, an occupation with increased risks of depression and anxiety exacerbated by economic instability. We used the Goldberg-18 Depression and Anxiety diagnostic tool to identify predictors of depressive and anxiety symptomatology among a sample of parents in rural cocoa farming communities. In a cross-sectional survey, the Goldberg-18 was administered to Ivorian parents (N = 2471). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to confirm the factor structure of the assessment tool, and Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression with clustered standard errors was used to identify sociodemographic predictors of symptomatology. CFA showed adequate fit statistics for a two-factor model measuring depressive and anxiety symptoms. Among respondents, 87 % screened positive for requiring further referral for clinical diagnosis. Sociodemographic predictors of depressive and anxiety symptoms were similar for males and females. For the total sample, higher monthly income, more years of education, and belonging to the Mandinka ethnic group predicted fewer depressive and anxiety symptoms. In contrast, higher depressive and anxiety symptomatology were associated with age. Single marital status predicted increased anxiety but not depressive symptoms for the full sample model and the female only sample, but not the male sample. This is a cross-sectional study. The Goldberg-18 measures distinct domains of depressive and anxiety symptoms in a rural Ivorian sample. Age and single marital status are predictors of increased symptoms. Sex-specific factors are implicated in pulmonary embolism (PE) presentation in young patients, as indicated by increased risk in pregnancy. Whether sex differences exist in PE presentation, comorbidities, and symptomatology in older adults, the age group in which most PEs occur, remains unknown. We identified older adults (aged ≥65 years) with PE in a large international PE registry replete with information about relevant clinical characteristics (RIETE registry, 2001–2021). To provide national data from the United States, we assessed sex differences in clinical characteristics and risk factors of Medicare beneficiaries with PE (2001–2019). The majority of older adults with PE in RIETE (19,294/33,462, 57.7%) and in the Medicare database (551,492/948,823, 58.7%) were women. Compared with men, women with PE less frequently had atherosclerotic diseases, lung disease, cancer, or unprovoked PE, but more frequently had varicose veins, depression, prolonged immobility, or history of hormonal therapy (p < 0.001 for all). Women less often presented with chest pain (37.3 vs. 40.6%) or hemoptysis (2.4 vs. 5.6%) but more often with dyspnea (84.6 vs. 80.9%) (p < 0.001 for all). Measures of clot burden, PE risk stratification, and use of imaging modalities were comparable between women and men. PE is more common in elderly women than in men. Cancer and cardiovascular disease are more common in men, whereas transient provoking factors including trauma, immobility, or hormone therapy are more common in elderly women with PE. The pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection has left behind a new symptomatology called post COVID-19, or "long COVID". The pathophysiological mechanisms still remain controversial; however, a link between persistent inflammation and these sequelae has been suggested. Herein, we longitudinally assessed up- and downstream molecules of the NLRP3 inflammasome's pathway in three study groups: healthy donors (HC, n = 14) and donors with a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection who had been hospitalized, the latter divided into post COVID-19 (PC, n = 27) and non-post COVID-19 patients (nPC, n = 27) based on the presence or absence of symptomatology at month 6, respectively. Plasma cytokines (IL-1β, IL-3, IL-6, IL-8, IL-18, IP-10, MIG, TNF-α, IFN-γ, MIP-1α and MIP-1β) and total peroxide (TPX) levels were quantified at baseline and at months 1 and 6 after the onset of the infection. Baseline values were the highest for both TPX and cytokines that progressively decreased thereafter the acute infection. IL-1β, MIP-1α and TNF-α at month 1 were the only cytokines that showed a significant difference between nPC and PC. These findings suggest that a persistent inflammatory state one month after the onset of SARS-CoV-2 infection related to specific cytokines (IL-1β, MIP-1α, and TNF-α) might guide to predicting post COVID-19 symptomatology. IntroductionLong COVID patients experience a decrease in their quality of life due to the symptomatology produced by the disease. It is also important to understand how long COVID affects both men and women. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of long COVID symptomatology on the quality of life of Spanish adults from a gender perspective.MethodsAn observational and cross-sectional study was carried out. Participants were able to complete an online questionnaire using an online platform. A sample of 206 people participated in the study.ResultsThe 80.6% of the sample were women with a mean age of 46.51 (±8.28) and the 19.4% were men with a mean age of 48.03 (±9.50). The medium score in the PAC19-QoL test was 141.47 (±24.96) and segmented by gender, 141.65 (±23.95) for women and 140.82 (±28.66) for men. The most common symptoms in women were muscle and joint pain (94.6%), fatigue (94.0%), discomfort (92.2%), difficulty concentrating (91.0%), and memory loss (88.6%). Background: In 2021, approximately 60 million individuals worldwide and 9 million individuals in the United States (US) reported opioid misuse. In the US, 2.5 million have OUD, of which only about a third receive any substance abuse treatment. OUD is often regarded as a monolithic disorder but different opioid problem subtypes may exist beyond DSM-IV/5 criteria. Understanding the characteristics of these subtypes could be useful for informing treatment and intervention strategies. Methods: Latent class analysis was used to identify OUD symptom subtypes among persons in the US who reported misusing prescription opioids or heroin in the 2015–2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (n=10,928). Regression analyses were utilized to determine associations between class membership and treatment receipt, as well as demographic characteristics and other comorbid conditions. Results: Five classes were identified with unique OUD symptom patterns: Class 1: Asymptomatic (71.6%), Class 2: Tolerance/Time (14.5%), Class 3: Loss of Control/Pharmacological (LOC/Pharmacol) (5.7%), Class 4: Social Impairment (2.6%), and Class 5: Pervasive (5.6%). Nearly all persons in the LOC/Pharmacol, Social Impairment, and Pervasive classes met criteria for OUD (98–100%); however, they differed in receipt of past-year treatment for substance use (28%, 28%, 49%, respectively). Age, race, education, insurance status, and criminal activity were also associated with treatment receipt. Conclusions: There were considerable differences in OUD symptom patterns and substance use treatment among individuals who misused opioids. The findings indicate a substantial unmet need for OUD treatment and point to patterns of heterogeneity within OUD that can inform development of treatment programs.

The seasonal dynamics of esca leaf symptom development were monitored and modelled over 10 years (from 2004 to 2006, 2012 to 2014, and 2018 to 2021) in eleven vineyards near Bordeaux (France) and on five cultivars, including three susceptible and two tolerant Field observations performed once or twice a week from the end of May to mid-September confirmed i) the evolution over time of esca leaf symptoms, ii) the presence under the bark of a discolored xylem longitudinal stripe with nonfunctional vessels, and iii) a gradual increase in the number of symptomatic plants within each vineyard. Of the three models tested, nonlinear logistic regression was the best fitting curve, showing a clear and systematic progressive sigmoidal pattern of cumulative esca leaf symptom observations regardless of ‘vineyard*year’ situation. Relationships with climatic data confirmed that all periods of symptom expression corresponded to the warmest and driest period of each vegetative season. Examinations of key dates corresponding to four threshold levels of cumulative incidence of leaf symptomatic vines [S1 (first observed symptoms), S10 %, S50 % and S90 %] showed that tolerant cultivars (Merlot noir and Malbec) generally developed leaf symptoms later than susceptible cultivars (Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet franc, and Sauvignon blanc). A variance analysis and a principal component analysis (PCA) confirmed that compared to susceptible cultivars, tolerant cultivars were associated with increased temperature sums above 10 °C from 1st January, reaching the same symptom thresholds S1 and S10 % and with more cumulative rainfall at the S1 stage. Overall, this study reveals the key role of temperature as a triggering factor for esca symptom expression in relation to fungal activity. The results indicate that the S10 % stage can be used as a discriminant variable to separate cultivars according to their susceptibility. Finally, logistic modelling can be used as a descriptive and analytical tool to study the seasonal dynamics of esca.

While placebo effects are well recognized within clinical medicine, "nocebo effects" have received much less attention. Nocebo effects are problems caused by negative expectations derived from information or treatment provided during a clinical interaction. In this review, we examine how nocebo effects may arise following pediatric concussion and how they may worsen symptoms or prolong recovery. We offer several suggestions to prevent, lessen, or eliminate such effects. We provide recommendations for clinicians in the following areas: terminology selection, explicit and implicit messaging to patients, evidence-based recommendations, and awareness of potential biases during clinical interactions. Alder yellows (ALY) phytoplasma (16SrV-C) is associated with ALY, a disease of several Alnus (alder) species in Europe and A. rubra in North America. In all affected species, the symptoms are similar. However, latent infections are common. ALY phytoplasma includes different strains which may be occasionally transmitted to grapevines leading to some grapevine yellows diseases. In the current study, visual symptom assessment and PCR-based methods using universal and group-specific phytoplasma primers were used to update and extend knowledge on the occurrence, impact, and genetic diversity of ALY phytoplasma in declining and non-symptomatic A. glutinosa and A. cordata trees in the Basilicata and Campania regions of southern Italy. ALY phytoplasma was detected in 80% of alder trees examined. In symptomatic trees, no other cause of disease was observed. More than half of alder trees that tested phytoplasma-positive proved to be latently infected. A considerable genetic variability was observed among the newly recorded ALY phytoplasma strains in southern Italy in almost of the genes examined. These included 16S rRNA, 16S/23S rDNA spacer region, ribosomal protein rpsV (rpl22) and rpsC (rps3), map, imp, and groEL genes. Eleven new genotypes were identified at map gene sequence level. However, the genetic differences observed were not related to plant host species, geographical origin, and symptoms shown by infected alder trees. Also, this study indicates that ALY phytoplasma is more widespread than previously thought.

The university population has high visual demands. It is therefore important to assess the prevalence of symptoms in these subjects, which may affect their academic performance. In this cross-sectional study, a randomized sample of 252 subjects from a university answered the Convergence Insufficiency Symptom Survey (CISS) questionnaire. In addition, questions were asked about blurred vision during and after near tasks, the number of hours per day spent in near vision, and whether or not they wore glasses. Furthermore, 110 subjects underwent an eye exam, including a refraction and accommodation assessment. The mean age of the subjects was 28.79 ± 11.36 years, 62.3% reported wearing glasses, and on average 7.20 ± 2.92 hours/day was spent in near vision. The mean of the CISS score was 18.69 ± 9.96, and according to its criteria, 38% of the subjects were symptomatic. Some symptoms were significantly (p < 0.05) more frequent in subjects wearing glasses. Accommodative dysfunctions were present in 30.9% of the subjects, the most common being insufficiency of accommodation. We emphasise the importance of assessing symptomatology during the clinical examination in this group of subjects, as they spend many hours a day in near vision, as well as assessing accommodation, binocular vision, and the ergonomic work environment, which may be at the origin of the symptoms, in addition to the need to wear glasses.

Background In Peru, the use of pesticides is very common in the agricultural sector to protect crop varieties, which in turn causes damage to human health due to their toxic effects. The objective of this study was to assess the consequences of pesticides on the health of the population of Mala, Peru Methods This was a non-experimental, descriptive and cross-sectional study. A total of 315 inhabitants of the District of Mala between the ages of 18 and 50 years were evaluated. The method used was a survey and the data collection instrument was a questionnaire. Results The pesticide most frequently used by farmers was Malathion (43.5%), followed by Clopyrifos (17.5%), Dicrotophos (14.6%) and finally Carbofuran (14%). The most frequent main symptoms of pesticide use were nausea (17.5%) and salivation (10.2%). Exposure time ranged from 30 minutes (23.8%) to 2 hours (16.8%). Conclusions Malathion (43.5%) was found to be the most commonly used pesticide by farmers in Mala and the main symptom of pesticide use was headache (55.9%).

Abstract Background/aim Breast cancer is the most common female malignancy in the world. Nearly ninety percent of screening-detected breast cancers were diagnosed with earlier stages of 0 to II in Taiwan. It’s widely acknowledged that mammography screening of breast cancer can achieve the goal of early diagnosis and treatment in terms of preventive task while neglected interval cancers are associated with unfavorable tumor characteristics and worse outcomes. The purpose of this study was to explore the characteristics of screening-detected breast cancers in Taiwan. Materials and methods Both screening and diagnostic mammography examinations with accompanied BI-RADS (breast imaging-reporting and data system) classification were extracted from the health information system and linked to cancer registry in Taiwan. Enrolled population included those attending their first mammography between 2012 and 2016, excluding subjects with previous breast cancer, or with missing or incomplete data. We compared treatment outcomes between breast cancers with either initial screening or diagnostic mammography (control group), and investigated the compositions of breast cancers detected by screening mammography through direct chart reviews. Aim: To summarize the omics results of symptomatic research that can help nurses identify intervention targets and design precision interventions for pain, mental health, cognitive impairment, sleep disorder, fatigue, lymphedema, and quality of life, so as to provide a comprehensive summary of help and inspire to precision nursing. Methods: CINAHL, PubMed, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect databases were searched. Retrieval time was from January 2012 to December 2021. Symptomatology research applying omics that can be used to guide nurses in designing targeted interventions was included. Results: Forty‐six studies were included in the final review. Symptomatology research that can be integrated with nursing science to develop precision nursing focused on pain, mental health, cognitive impairment, sleep disorder, fatigue, lymphedema, and quality of life. Most studies were related to cognitive impairment (n = 10; 21.74%), pain (n = 9; 19.57%), and mental health (n = 8; 17.39%). Moreover, the included studies involved various omics technologies, such as whole genome, epigenome, transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome. Conclusion: The rapid development of various omic technologies promotes symptomatology research, which can help nurses fully understand the information of patients. Phenotypic characteristics and biomarkers shown in symptomatology research help nurses identify intervention targets and develop individualization interventions, so as to prevent and reduce symptoms and improve the quality of life. Implication for nursing and health policy: This scoping review is the first synthesis of all peer‐reviewed literature to summarize and provide important information and references from the omic results of symptomatology studies to develop precision nursing, highlighting the status and development of precision nursing. Nursing education policies should introduce the development and importance of precision nursing. Further research could consider investing more attention in precision nursing. High-throughput sequencing (HTS) and sequence mining tools revolutionized virus detection and discovery in recent years, and implementing them with classical plant virology techniques results in a powerful approach to characterize viruses. An example of a virus discovered through HTS is Solanum nigrum ilarvirus 1 (SnIV1) (Bromoviridae), which was recently reported in various solanaceous plants from France, Slovenia, Greece, and South Africa. It was likewise detected in grapevines (Vitaceae) and several Fabaceae and Rosaceae plant species. Such a diverse set of source organisms is atypical for ilarviruses, thus warranting further investigation. In this study, modern and classical virological tools were combined to accelerate the characterization of SnIV1. Through HTS-based virome surveys, mining of sequence read archive datasets, and a literature search, SnIV1 was further identified from diverse plant and non-plant sources globally. SnIV1 isolates showed relatively low variability compared with other phylogenetically related ilarviruses. Phylogenetic analyses showed a distinct basal clade of isolates from Europe, whereas the rest formed clades of mixed geographic origin. Furthermore, systemic infection of SnIV1 in Solanum villosum and its mechanical and graft transmissibility to solanaceous species were demonstrated. Near-identical SnIV1 genomes from the inoculum (S. villosum) and inoculated Nicotiana benthamiana were sequenced, thus partially fulfilling Koch's postulates. SnIV1 was shown to be seed-transmitted and potentially pollen-borne, has spherical virions, and possibly induces histopathological changes in infected N. benthamiana leaf tissues. Overall, this study provides information to better understand the diversity, global presence, and pathobiology of SnIV1; however, its possible emergence as a destructive pathogen remains uncertain. The olive tree (Olea europaea subsp. europaea var. europaea) represents the cornerstone crop of Apulian agriculture, which is based on the production of oil and table olives. The high genetic variability of the Apulian olive germplasm is at risk of genetic erosion due to social, economic, and climatic changes. Furthermore, since 2013, the spread of the Gram-negative bacterium Xylella fastidiosa subsp. pauca responsible for the olive quick decline syndrome (OQDS) has been threatening olive biodiversity in Apulia, damaging the regional economy and landscape heritage. The aim of this study was to investigate the differential response to X. fastidiosa infection in a collection of 100 autochthonous Apulian olive genotypes, including minor varieties, F1 genotypes, and reference cultivars. They were genotyped using 10 SSR markers and grown for 5 years in an experimental field; then, they were inoculated with the bacterium. Symptom assessments and the quantification of bacterium using a qPCR assay and colony forming units (CFUs) were carried out three and five years after inoculation. The study allowed the identification of nine putatively resistant genotypes that represent a first panel of olive germplasm resources that are useful both for studying the mechanisms of response to the pathogen and as a reserve for replanting in infected areas. This article analyzes one of the most recent theories of visual thinking – Emmanuel Alloa’s symptomatology of images. The article focuses on the problem of the status of image, which is considered in various ways by authors of the pictorial and iconic turns. The article raises the question “What is the status of image in respect of language?” The article goes back to the origins of symptomatology of images, in particular, to Nelson Goodman’s theory of symbols. This allows showing the originality of Alloa’s model of symptoms and rehabilitating the status of symptomatological investigation. It is thus claimed that the iconic status of images in relation to language can be reformulated raising the question of the symptom’s identity. In this respect, the symptoms of iconic are instruments that enable the description of images with regard to different layers of iconicity.

Objective: To analyze current scientist literature advances about risk factors and symptomatology of sexual abuse in children and adolescents. Method: A literature review was conducted by consulting english and spanish documents available in APA PsycArticles, Dialnet, Springer and Science Direct databases. 27 research papers published between 2011 and 2020 was selected. They provide quantitative or qualitative information about risk factors and symptomatology of sexual abuse in children and adolescents. Results: Main findings describe risk factors associated with age groups, mainly between 6-7 and 12-13 years, types of reconstituted families, as well as the presence of caregivers different to parents. Short-term symptoms include abrupt changes in behavior, difficulties in interpersonal relationships, anguish, fear and guilt. In addition, physical injuries and somatic alterations are identified. In the long term, symptoms are associated with post-traumatic stress, suicidal behaviors, eating disorders, difficulties in social interaction and sometimes with drugs abuse. Discussions: Regarding risk factors, the use of social media is visible as a reference to be considered in current dynamics. However, the literature emphasizes the need to continue consolidating the analysis of these factors and their articulation with pertinent actions for the prevention and timely attention of abuse. Regarding symptomatology, there is evidence of progress in the short-term analysis, since not only the physical and physiological aspects are addressed, but also the psychosocial aspects.
