Adopting a flat ontology, we discuss how phenomena of societal concern are connected to organizational routines. We conceptualize grand challenges as large patterns of actions to overcome the micro-macro divide prevalent in existing research. We introduce spatial, temporal, and agentic relations as three interrelated aspects of scale that are of particular interest and demonstrate how social phenomena may be approached through these relations. Focusing on the situated enactment of routines allows us to identify weakening and strengthening between actors and their actions as important processes that reflect the continuous patterning of grand challenges. We contribute to the literature by highlighting the consequentiality of mundane actions and by questioning the dominant approach to change in research on grand challenges. Interior designers need to understand the importance of research and evidence-based solutions in design. In interior design education, senior students usually start the "research phase" of their projects before the practical phase. They often struggle with crafting a well-refined research thesis, relying on a scientific research background, and implementing appropriate research methods. The present study aims to explore the teaching strategies that instructors at a private university in Saudi Arabia use to conduct senior thesis projects. The study will be conducted using mixed methods. First, a qualitative description of the teaching methods that have been used through different semesters will be explained. These strategies have been developed over time and evaluated through several semesters in an effort to aid the students with their senior theses, adjust to students' capabilities, and follow the developing trends of design pedagogy. The study will then be supported by an analysis of students' work and the application of knowledge gained through several semesters using a grading rubric developed by the instructors of the course and based on the requirements of each assignment submitted by students. For the quantitative part, senior students' completed questionnaires will be used to assess their level of understanding of the research methods and achievement of desired learning outcomes. The study will be limited to the evaluation of research methods taught for senior students. The obtained result will contribute to the literature on interior design pedagogy, specifically in relation to the integration of research methods and the practice of interior design. Our theoretical manuscript aims to explore the role that dimension two, ‘Thinking-Cognitive Skills’ of the Inner Development Goals (IDG) framework, can play in empowering sustainable careers and sustainable development. We begin by setting the scene before introducing the theoretical framework, which combines the IDG framework and Sustainable Career Ecosystems Theory (SCET). Our attention then turns to systematically considering each of the components of dimension two of the IDG framework. These include (a) critical thinking, (b) complexity awareness, (c) perspective skills, (d) sense-making, and (e) long-term orientation and visioning. The theoretical contribution comes from integrating the IDG framework and SCET. Practical implications come from offering eight pragmatic recommendations to empower students in the context of higher education to prepare for sustainable careers and sustainable development: (i) curriculum design, (ii) interdisciplinary approach, (iii) experiential learning, (iv) faculty development, (v) assessment and evaluation, (vi) campus culture, (vii) collaboration and external partners, and (viii) research and innovation. Limitations and a future research agenda are also provided.

The objective of this study was to investigate the challenges encountered by organisations when integrating sustainable marketing into their strategic strategies. The research adopted a qualitative research design. Participants were selected from a representative sample of Zimbabwean organisations from various industries that have incorporated sustainable practices into their marketing strategy. Purposive sampling was used to select businesses encompassing various industries, sizes, and degrees of sustainability integration. This study, grounded in stakeholder theory, unveils challenges in implementing sustainable marketing strategies, including consumer awareness, resource constraints, hesitancy from stakeholders, competition from alternatives, regulatory complexities and measurement difficulties, underscoring the critical role of stakeholder engagement in navigating these challenges. Organisations must strategically incorporate sustainable practices by optimising resources, reducing inefficiencies, and aligning with sustainability goals, promoting the connection between resource optimization and environmental preservation. Further, they have leverage partnerships with sustainable suppliers, NGOs, and stakeholders to enhance sustainability initiatives by pooling resources, sharing costs, and overcoming budget constraints. Further study could investigate effective strategies for overcoming stakeholder hesitancy and fostering greater stakeholder engagement in sustainability initiatives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Labour migration is one of many strategies adopted by developing countries to achieve economic growth, but its success varies across countries. Migrant workers often face issues related to their welfare and protection at their workplace due to information asymmetries and power imbalances in the labour market. This study compares the policies and initiatives of the Philippines and Nepal, aligning them with the Decent Work agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals. The study's findings underscore the importance of considering various factors that impact the welfare and protection of migrant workers to achieve sustainable socio‐economic growth in labour sending countries. Abstract According to the United Nations, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) goal 6 and goal 14 seeks to ensure the sustainable management of water present over the earth for all. Urban cities saw a lot of expansion in terms of population and the number of industries established there. Water quality analysis becomes a huge requirement of today’s scenario due to the impurities present in water which harms the livelihood of society. Some of the hazardous impurities like heavy metals destruct the surroundings. In this study, the removal of heavy metals from wastewater with an efficient technique i.e. Bioremediation is represented with the analysis and evaluation of results recorded in the laboratory testing. Two samples were taken from two different sites which are being analyzed with the implementation methodology represented in the present article. The inclusion of the ANOVA model for the optimization of the outcome generated is evaluated and received the P-value and F-crit value. Two algae Chlorella Minutissima & Chlorella Singularis were evaluated based on their impurity removal efficiency as well an analysis of the biological treatment method over other chemical methods has been examined. The results were analyzed and represented in the form of a table as well and the variation in the value of WQP is shown in the form of graphs. The observation shows that the variation in WQP after the integration of algae lies under the permissible limit. Alkalinity is estimated in the range of 20–40 mg/l, Hardness lies in the range of 0–60mg/l, and pH comes approximately in a range of 6.5–8. The results of the ANOVA model is also depicted in graphical form highlighting the P-value and F-crit value of different result generated. Finally, the summary of the proposed work is illustrated with the challenges faced and future recommendations have been provided. Based on the evaluation, the framework is generated for the efficient technique used for heavy metal removal i.e. Bioremediation which provides a great advancement in the efficacy of removal of heavy metals.

India and its constituent states are committed to achieving universal health coverage (UHC) as a part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 by strengthening primary healthcare (PHC). The National Health Mission (NHM) has been a landmark effort at health systems strengthening, aiming to reboot both the architecture and service delivery. Manipur ranks fourth out of the eight states in the North East Region in the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog's ranking for SDGs. The available evidence, drawing upon secondary datasets and available primary data, aims to unpack the progress made in health systems strengthening to interpret the journey toward achieving UHCs and SDGs. The progress made and the gaps in terms of human resources, infrastructure, service utilization, and reduction of out-of-pocket expenditure are interpreted in terms of critical social determinants such as geographic and ethnic divides. Newer policies, such as the Act East Policy and medical tourism, are examined in the context of current disparities and the potential to accelerate the journey towards achieving SDGs.

Graphene is a promising candidate for use as a cushioning/filler material in composites due to its extraordinary mechanical and thermal properties. When added to composite materials, graphene can improve the composite's overall strength, durability, and impact resistance. One of the primary benefits of using graphene as a cushioning/filler material in composite materials is its high strength-to-weight ratio. Graphene is one of the most robust materials known to man, and when added to composite materials, it can significantly increase their strength without adding much weight. Another benefit is its high thermal conductivity. Graphene can dissipate heat quickly and efficiently, which can be advantageous in applications where thermal management is critical, such as electronics and aerospace. The addition of graphene can reduce the amount of energy transferred during impact, reducing the risk of damage or failure of the composite material. In addition to its thermal and mechanical properties, graphene is highly chemically resistant, making it ideal for use in harsh environments. It is also relatively inexpensive compared to other high-performance materials, making it an attractive option for large-scale industrial applications. Overall, graphene has the potential to revolutionize the use of composite materials by providing a high-strength, lightweight, and thermally conductive cushioning/filler material that can improve the durability and performance of composite materials in a diverse range of applications. Various application in diverse field has been elaborated in this review work.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) identify heritage practice as a means to develop culturally sustainable communities. Cultural sustainability enables the continuity of cultural identities and facilitates social inclusion. It is, therefore, of great importance for communities. Museums, as institutions that carry material and immaterial traces of history, serve as important conduits in the communication and preservation of culture. This paper examines the role of community museums in the development of culturally sustainable communities and explores how the process can be enhanced by the implementation of Transmedia Storytelling techniques to engage community audiences. It takes as a case study the collaboration between a Sino-foreign university, the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), and a local community museum, the Ningbo Bang Museum. Community-based tourism (CBT) promotes a model for enhancing communities' social, environmental, and economic needs upheld as a post-Covid-19 revival strategy. This study aimed to critically review the model following longitudinal fieldwork in Thailand. "Reflection-in-action" methodology exposes CBT failings against sustainable development goals (SDGs). CBT falsely assumes: communities possess necessary capability for effective implementation; structural equity exists among host, and hosts possess uninhibited local control over their tourism assets. Such expositions underpin the study's contributions: a supply-side focus on "community outputs" rather than the demand-side "expectations" of tourists; contradictions to known asset-based development assumptions; and theoretical extension to the CBT literature through critique to onsite experiences against sustainable development goals. Such may assist communities to move beyond their current "constraints" focus to that of "contextual experts" in local community assets. This study investigates web-accessibility problems of global trade show websites based on WCAG 2.0 (Study 1), and the quantitative results are compared with the qualitative document analysis of various web-accessibility policy-related documents treated as complementary data to support the triangulation of study findings and theory-building (Study 2). Education plays a crucial role in promoting actions that mitigate climate change, enhancing understanding of the consequences of human actions on ecosystems and providing the knowledge, values and skills necessary for engineering students to act as agents of change. This article stems from documentary research aimed at reviewing Mechanical Engineering programs in Colombia, exploring their relationship and pertinence to environmental sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (sdg) No. 6, 7, 11 and 13. The methodological design aligns with the critical social paradigm, employing a qualitative approach through a descriptive and projective study. The study involves characterizing a sample of 15 Mechanical Engineering programs, analyzing the relevance of professional training concerning environmental sustainability. The survey conducted revealed that a significant portion of the existing educational offerings in Mechanical Engineering programs does not align with the objectives of sustainability. Consequently, updating curricula is proposed as an opportunity to reflect, make them more flexible, and renew them to address the current environmental needs of the planet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The regions with the best economy have a greater capacity to develop low-income or social-impact housing, thus contributing to the reduction of poverty and, therefore, to the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goals. This is observed in fewer people living in extreme poverty and with fewer unmet basic needs. This present article analyzes the correlation between the development in the main economic sectors in different regions (departments) of Colombia and the supply of low-income housing. Nevertheless, the most remarkable relation that was found was between the economic development of the regions (GDP) and the supply of non-social housing (more expensive commercial value) (Spearman's Rho: 0.9). This means that there is an imbalance between regional economic capacity and the low-income housing supply because the regions with higher economic potential should have a less demanding population, that is, people living in poverty. These correlations are better when they go hand in hand with activities that are mostly developed in an urban environment, such as manufacturing, construction, real estate, and finance and insurance. On the contrary, these correlations are worse with industries such as mining and agriculture that mostly operate in rural areas. The analysis between low-income housing and economic sectors' GDP yields low correlations, but these are worse for rural industries. Also, the investigation shows a positive change in the correlations' trend for the year 2021, the beginning of the post-pandemic economic recovery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Of all the ways human beings have modified the planet over the last 10,000 years, habitat loss is the most important for other species. To address this most critical threat to biodiversity, governments, non-governmental actors, and the public need to know, in near real-time, where and when habitat loss is occurring. Here we present an integrated habitat modelling system at the range-wide scale for the tiger (Panthera tigris) to measure and monitor changes in tiger habitat at range-wide, national, biome, and landscape scales, as often as the underlying inputs change. We find that after nearly 150 years of decline, effective potential habitat for the tiger seems to have stabilized at around 16% of its indigenous extent (1.817 million km² ). As of the 1st of January 2020, there were 63 Tiger Conservation Landscapes in the world, covering 911,920 km² shared across ten of the 30 modern countries which once harbored tiger populations. Over the last 20 years, the total area of Tiger Conservation Landscapes (TCLs) declined from 1.025 million km² in 2001, a range-wide loss of 11%, with the greatest losses in Southeast Asia and southern China. Meanwhile, we documented expansions of modelled TCL area in India, Nepal, Bhutan, northern China, and southeastern Russia. We find significant potential for restoring tigers to existing habitats, identified here in 226 Restoration Landscapes. If these habitats had sufficient prey and were tigers able to find them, the occupied land base for tigers might increase by 50%. Our analytical system, incorporating Earth observations, in situ biological data, and a conservation-oriented modelling framework, provides the information the countries need to protect tigers and enhance habibig cats, data sharing, habitat trend, species monitoring, google earth engine, species conservation landscapes (SCL), sustainable development goals (SDG), convention on biological diversity (CBD)tat, including dynamic, spatially explicit maps and results, updated as often as the underlying data change. Our work builds on nearly 30 years of tiger conservation research and provides an accessible way for countries to measure progress and report outcomes. This work serves as a model for objective, range-wide, habitat monitoring as countries work to achieve the goals laid out in the Sustainable Development Goals, the 30×30 Agenda, and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Organizational effectiveness is the global requirement of every organization to survive in this competitive era and needs the focus of recent studies and policymakers. Thus, the researchers examine the sustainable development goals (SDG) and investment strategies impact on the organizational effectiveness of automobile companies in China. The researchers also investigate the mediating role of organizational climate among the relationships of SDG, investment strategies and organizational effectiveness of automobile companies in China. The present article has used the primary data collection methods and used the survey questionnaires to gather the data from respondents. The researchers have also used the Smart PLS to test the validity of the constructs and relationships among the variables. The results indicated that SDG and investment strategies have a positive influence on the organizational effectiveness of automobile companies in China. The findings also revealed that organizational climate significantly mediates among the nexus of SDG, investment strategies and organizational effectiveness of automobile companies in China. Despite the importance of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), there is a lack of emphasis on integrating ESD principles into the learning/physical environment, particularly in early childhood education. Underutilized school grounds and limited outdoor learning opportunities, uninvolved school stakeholders and community hinder the realization of the full transformative potential of education and disconnect learners from real-world experiences. Thus, this study explores how to transform the school grounds into outdoor learning that teaches ESD. To achieve this aim, a quasi-experiment method approach was implemented at Gamal Abdel Naser experimental school in Egypt based on a proposed theoretical framework. The framework adopts UNESCO roadmap for ESD, and integrates it with adaptation in the built environment to reach a “Whole-Institution Approach” indicated in Anne Taylor’s theory “Learning Environment as a 3D Textbook”. The findings demonstrate the transformation of the existing traditional school from individual decision-making to whole institution stakeholder participation including schoolchildren, from subject matter discipline to integrated SDGs 7, 12, 17 within the existing curriculum utilizing the outdoor learning environment as a teaching tool, where enhancing active learning experience in the real context compared with previous passive learning. It also emphasizes the crucial role of architects beyond design in shaping the learning environment and educating the teachers and schoolchildren. The study contributes practical insights for the collaboration of architects, policymakers, and educators involved in early childhood education. It proposes the revision of the codes and standards of to the General Authority for Educational Buildings to integrate ESD in the existing school buildings.

The aim of this paper is to propose different initiatives to integrate the SDG into university education. To do so, firstly, some theoretical questions about the SDG and education are addressed. In addition, a review is made of previous research that has incorporated the SDG into university teaching. Finally, four activities are proposed that combine various teaching methodologies, as well as digital resources to facilitate the integration of the SDG in Human Resources subjects. Our proposal constitutes a guide to help teachers who want to incorpo-rate the SDG in subjects related to the management and administration of people.

The paper focuses on environmental monitoring in European regions using the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) framework. Adopted in 2015, the United Nations SDG are a set of global goals developed to guide countries towards sustainable development. Although designed for the national level, it is growingly argued that achieving the SDG requires action at the sub-national, local level. With this in mind, in this paper, we use indicators co-designed by researchers and SDG practitioners from European regional administrations to monitor the environmental status of selected European regions over a period of time. We consider environmental monitoring a domain that encompasses activities beyond the monitoring and reducing CO2 emissions alone and widely regards biodiversity and conservation, ecosystems, climate change, environmental pollution and human ecology. By default, this touches upon different sectors of society (from energy to mobility, and production to consumption), and the latter is also reflected in the SDG and their targets. To this end, we isolate indicators that directly and indirectly address the environment as a domain to highlight areas where there is a need for improvement. Finally, the paper provides insights into how the SDG framework can be used to monitor environmental progress at the regional level in Europe and how the current policy framework might also contribute to this progress.

Hungary is currently in the early stage of its sustainable development endeavours, with notable strides being made since 2022. The study explores the attitudes of the Hungarian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) towards the sustainable development goals (SDGs). To achieve this, a two-fold methodology is employed. Firstly, the study utilizes the literature research and the Eurostat database to assess the country's SDG indicators. Secondly, an SME questionnaire is designed to gather relevant information regarding the connected organizational attitudes. To visually illustrate the relevance and the presence of SDGs within Hungarian SMEs, an SDG relevance-presence map is developed, to serve as a crucial milestone for formulating strategies centred around sustainable development in this sector. Based on the results, the SDGs in the operation of SMEs are classified into three groups, which categorization can be clearly connected to the three-pillar model. The research not only elucidates the primary associations, but also provides valuable insights to both policy makers and the Hungarian government. Furthermore, these insights shed light on the elements within which concentrated efforts could yield the greatest improvements for the country. Despite the fact that our research was centred on Hungary, the study underscores the broader applicability of our findings.

Global challenges such as climate change, limited resources, and an ever-growing world population demonstrate a perceptible impact on the lives of people around the globe. To tackle the arising issues and to enable peace and prosperity in the future, the United Nations (UN) have defined 17 interlinked sustainable development goals. A major facilitator to achieve these goals is considered through education. Consequently, higher education institutes have started to align their curricula with sustainable development. Yet, lesser attention has been paid to teaching methods themselves. Hence, in this paper, a scoping survey is performed on how higher education teaching can be inspired by the UN sustainable development goals, specifically, by a summarized subset of 7 goals: (1) Tackle Poverty, (2) Enable Good Health and Well-Being, (3) Establish Quality Education, (4) Reduce Inequalities, (5) Embrace Environmental Sustainability, (6) Foster Innovation, and (7) Establish Partnerships. Overall, the discussed recommendations show a promising potential towards having a positive impact on higher education, yet, also unveil conflicts between different goals. Nevertheless, this paper could provide an orientation to critically reflect on current means of higher education teaching.

[Display omitted] At the mid-point to 2030, progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) varies significantly across countries. While the classification of countries can lay the foundation for improving policy efficiency and promoting joint action, bottom-up, SDG data-driven country classifications have largely remained unexplored. Here, we classified 166 countries based on their performances in the 17 SDGs and further used the classification to analyze SDG interactions and compare development aid distributions. The countries were classified into five groups, ranging from "lowest development with good environment" to "high development needing climate action". None of them scored highly in all SDGs, and due to trade-offs related to environment and climate SDGs, none of them can achieve all SDGs eventually. To maximize the potential for achieving the SDGs, all countries need to undergo a sustainable transformation, and prioritizing certain SDGs, such as SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), can help countries with lower sustainable development levels achieve more with less. Furthermore, global development aid should be better aligned with country needs, particularly in areas of education, energy, environment, and water supply and sanitation. By better characterizing different countries, this study reveals the bleak prospects of achieving all SDGs and provides valuable insights into more targeted actions for national sustainable development and global collaboration. The challenge launched by the United Nations (UN) on the achievement of SDGs requires local governments to rethink how to devote their resources and report on their results regarding SDGs. The article analyses how existing frameworks communicate, through financial indicators, the efforts done towards sustainable development. The Voluntary Local Reviews (VLR) published by European cities and made available on the UN website can stimulate further reflection and actions toward making SDGs an accounting issue. As the tier closest to citizens, local governments should significantly operate toward the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by mobilizing their resources, as well as involving several stakeholders. The article analyses how frameworks and praxis are making use of accounting systems information to assess and report on SDGs' achievements. Results show that accounting systems are not yet utilized to their full potential, and therefore scholars and policy-makers need to work towards integrating accounting into the service of the SDGs.
