Objective: Apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene polymorphisms were associated with coronary atherosclerosis and hypertension. However, the relationship between APOE polymorphisms and coronary atherosclerosis susceptibility in hypertensive patients is unclear. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship. Methods: A total of 1713 patients with hypertension who were admitted to Meizhou People's Hospital from November 2019 to August 2023 were retrospectively analyzed, including 848 patients with coronary atherosclerosis and 865 patients without coronary atherosclerosis. The rs429358 and rs7412 polymorphisms of APOE were genotyped, and relationship between APOE polymorphisms and the risk of coronary atherosclerosis in hypertensive patients were analyzed. Results: There were 10 (0.6%), 193 (11.3%), 30 (1.8%), 1234 (72.0%), 233 (13.6%), and 13 (0.8%) individuals with APOE ɛ2/ɛ2, ɛ2/ɛ3, ɛ2/ɛ4, ɛ3/ɛ3, ɛ3/ɛ4, and ɛ4/ɛ4 genotype, respectively. The frequency of APOE ɛ3/ɛ4 was higher (16.4% vs. 10.9%, p = 0.001) in the patients with coronary atherosclerosis than controls. Logistic analysis showed that body mass index (BMI) ≥ 24.0 kg/m2 (24.0 kg/m2 vs. 18.5–23.9 kg/m2, odds ratio (OR): 1.361, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.112–1.666, p = 0.003), advanced age (≥ 65/<65, OR:1.303, 95% CI: 1.060–1.602, p = 0.012), history of smoking (OR: 1.830, 95% CI: 1.379–2.428, p < 0.001), diabetes mellitus (OR: 1.380, 95% CI: 1.119–1.702, p = 0.003), hyperlipidemia (OR: 1.773, 95% CI: 1.392–2.258, p < 0.001), and APOE ɛ3/ɛ4 genotype (ɛ3/ɛ4 vs. ɛ3/ɛ3, OR: 1.514, 95% CI: 1.133–2.024, p = 0.005) were associated with coronary atherosclerosis in hypertensive patients. Conclusions: Overweight (BMI ≥ 24.0 kg/m2), advanced age, history of smoking, diabetes mellitus, and APOE ɛ3/ɛ4 genotype were independent risk factors for coronary atherosclerosis in hypertensive patients. Objective: This meta-analysis aims to clarify the association between the TNF-α -308G > A and − 238G > A polymorphisms and lung cancer risk. Method: A comprehensive search was conducted for relevant articles across databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, EMBASE, and CNKI, up to September 25, 2023. Lung cancer risk was assessed by calculating odds ratios (ORs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The Z-test was used to determine the significance of combined ORs, with P < 0.05 considered statistically significant. All analyses were performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) 2.0 software. Results: The analysis included 19 case-control studies with 3,838 cases and 5,306 controls for the TNF-α -308G > A polymorphism, along with 10 studies comprising 2,427 cases and 2,357 controls for the − 238G > A polymorphism. The − 308G > A polymorphism showed no significant overall relationships, though in the Asian subgroup, the A allele was significantly reduced compared to G (OR: 0.831, p = 0.028) and the AA genotype showed significant reductions versus GG (OR: 0.571, p = 0.021), with no significant correlation in Caucasians. In non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the A allele was associated with increased risk compared to G (OR: 1.131, p = 0.049). For the − 238G > A polymorphism, the AA genotype significantly increased risk compared to GG (OR: 3.171, p = 0.014), while showing a protective effect in Caucasians (OR: 0.120, p = 0.024) and a heightened risk in Asians (OR: 7.990, p = 0.007). In small cell lung cancer (SCLC), the A allele conferred protective effects, whereas NSCLC showed increased risk for the AA genotype (OR: 11.375, p = 0.002). Conclusion: The − 308G > A polymorphism has no significant overall relationships but suggests a protective role of the A allele in the Asian subgroup. Conversely, the − 238G > A polymorphism presents a complex risk profile, increasing lung cancer likelihood in Asians while protecting Caucasians. Purpose: Susceptibility map weighted imaging (SMWI), based on quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM), allows accurate nigrosome-1 (N1) evaluation and has been used to develop Parkinson’s disease (PD) deep learning (DL) classification algorithms. Neuromelanin-sensitive (NMS) MRI could improve automated quantitative N1 analysis by revealing neuromelanin content. This study aimed to compare classification performance of four approaches to PD diagnosis: (1) N1 quantitative “QSM-NMS” composite marker, (2) DL model for N1 morphological abnormality using SMWI (“Heuron IPD”), (3) DL model for N1 volume using SMWI (“Heuron NI”), and (4) N1 SMWI neuroradiological evaluation. Method: PD patients (n = 82; aged 65 ± 9 years; 68% male) and healthy-controls (n = 107; 66 ± 7 years; 48% male) underwent 3 T midbrain MRI with T2*-SWI multi-echo-GRE (for QSM and SMWI), and NMS-MRI. AUC was used to compare diagnostic performance. We tested for correlation of each imaging measure with clinical parameters (severity, duration and levodopa dosing) by Spearman-Rho or Kendall-Tao-Beta correlation. Results: Classification performance was excellent for the QSM-NMS composite marker (AUC = 0.94), N1 SMWI abnormality (AUC = 0.92), N1 SMWI volume (AUC = 0.90), and neuroradiologist (AUC = 0.98). Reasons for misclassification were right–left asymmetry, through-plane re-slicing, pulsation artefacts, and thin N1. In the two DL models, all 18/189 (9.5%) cases misclassified by Heuron IPD were controls with normal N1 volumes. We found significant correlation of the SN QSM-NMS composite measure with levodopa dosing (rho = −0.303, p = 0.006). Conclusion: Our data demonstrate excellent performance of a quantitative QSM-NMS marker and automated DL PD classification algorithms based on midbrain MRI, while suggesting potential further improvements. Assessment of liquefaction susceptibility of sediments in alluvial plains is considered one of the first step for infrastructure planning, hazard mitigation, and land use management in seismically active regions. Subtle geomorphological features resulting from depositional processes could greatly contribute to estimating the liquefaction likelihood since they also dictate the type and distribution of sediments. Our case study is from the Piniada Valley (Greece), where widespread liquefaction phenomena were triggered by the 2021 Mw 6.3, Damasi earthquake. As we compiled a detailed geological map for the purposes of this investigation and correlated it to the spatial distribution of the earthquake-induced liquefaction phenomena, we observed that most of liquefaction surface evidence are related to point bars and abandoned river channels formed the last century. In particular, the areal liquefaction density was estimated at 60.7 and 67.1 manifestations per km2, for the point bars and abandoned channels, respectively. Following this outcome, we propose a refinement of the existing liquefaction susceptibility classifications by including point bar bodies as a distinct category, characterized by a very high susceptibility to liquefaction. In addition, we discuss the correlation between the observed liquefaction manifestations and the shallow lithofacies, sand or mud prone areas, within point bars. The outcome arisen by this research is that most of liquefaction phenomena (> 70%) occurred on the area covered by coarser materials deposited on the upstream part of high sinuosity meanders. The eastern Himalayan syntaxis (EHS) region is characterized by steep topography, strong tectonic activity, and strong disaster activity, and the disaster activity has a temporal correlation with the change of seasonal climate factors. Different from other disaster-prone areas, the disasters in the EHS area are more destructive and more susceptible to changes in climate factors. However, previous studies on disaster susceptibility in the region mainly focused on geohazard samples, regional topography, and geological conditions and seldom considered the characteristics of disaster activity and the characteristics of seasonal temperature and rainfall changes, which often led to an underestimation of disaster susceptibility in this region. Therefore, in this study, SBAS-InSAR technology and the GEE (Google Earth Engine) platform were used to identify 317 geological disasters and construct the spatial–temporal motion field and spatial-temporal background information of disasters in the last 5 years. Based on the random forest and optimized evaluation data model, the disaster susceptibility in the EHS area was quantitatively evaluated. The AUC value of the model was 0.89, indicating that the results have high reliability. The results showed that the high-susceptibility areas were mainly distributed in the riverbank and high-altitude areas. The SHAP model revealed that the factors of temperature, precipitation, slope, and elevation in the EHS area had a great negative influence on the disaster. The quantitative results of the influence of seasonal temperature and precipitation on disaster susceptibility showed that the area of susceptibility in summer was significantly higher than that in winter, and the area of high and very high susceptibility increased by about 13%. Finally, the dynamic failure process of typical landslide and glacier disasters in highly susceptible areas was quantitatively predicted, which provides a scientific basis for disaster prevention. Children vary in how sensitive they are to experiences, with consequences for their developmental outcomes. In the current study, we investigated how behavioral sensitivity at age 3 years predicts mental health in middle childhood. Using a novel repeated measures design, we calculated child sensitivity to multiple psychological and social influences: parent praise, parent stress, child mood, and child sleep. We conceptualized sensitivity as the strength and direction of the relationship between psychosocial influences and child behavior, operationalized as toothbrushing time, at age 3 years. When children were 5–7 years old (n = 60), parents reported on children's internalizing and externalizing problems. Children who were more sensitive to their parents' praise at age 3 had fewer internalizing (r = −0.37, p = 0.016, pFDR = 0.042) and externalizing (r = −0.35, p = 0.021, pFDR = 0.042) problems in middle childhood. Higher average parent praise also marginally predicted fewer externalizing problems (r = −0.33, p = 0.006, pFDR = 0.057). Child sensitivity to mood predicted fewer internalizing (r = −0.32, p = 0.013, pFDR = 0.042) and externalizing (r = −0.38, p = 0.003, pFDR = 0.026) problems. By capturing variability in how children respond to daily fluctuations in their environment, we can contribute to the early prediction of mental health problems and improve access to early intervention services for children and families who need them most. Assessing the association between candidate single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) identified by multi-omics approaches and susceptibility to silicosis. RNA-seq analysis was performed to screen the differentially expressed mRNAs in the fibrotic lung tissues of mice exposed to silica particles. Following this, we integrated the SNPs located in the above human homologenes with the silicosis-related genome-wide association study (GWAS) data to select the candidate SNPs. Then, expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL)-SNPs were identified by the GTEx database. Next, we validated the associations between the functional eQTL-SNPs and silicosis susceptibility by additional case–control study. And the contribution of the identified SNP and its host gene in the fibrosis process was further validated by functional experiments. A total of 12 eQTL-SNPs were identified in the screening stage. The results of the validation stage suggested that the variant T allele of rs419540 located in IL12RB1 significantly increased the risk of developing silicosis [additive model: odds ratio (OR) = 1.78, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.11–2.85, P = 0.017]. Furthermore, the combination of GWAS and the results of validation stage also indicated that the variant T allele of rs419540 in IL12RB1 was associated with increased silicosis risk (additive model: OR = 2.07, 95% CI 1.38–3.12, P < 0.001). Additionally, after knockdown or overexpression of IL12RB1, the levels of pro-inflammatory factors, such as IL-12, IFN-γ, and other pro-inflammatory factors, were correspondingly decreased or increased. This research focuses on assessing landslide susceptibility in the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) region of the northwestern Himalayas, which is known for its high incidence of landslides. Utilizing advanced geographic information system (GIS) techniques, 18 influencing factors, including terrain characteristics, land use, rainfall, and lithology, were incorporated to create a comprehensive landslide susceptibility map (LSM). Leveraging a robust database comprising 6669 landslides, with 70% utilized for modelling and 30% for validation, the study utilized a Yule's coefficient (YC). The resulting LSM, categorized into five susceptibility zones, indicates that one third of the study area is highly susceptible to landslides, with 9.9, 23.9, 27.9, 23.1, and 15.2% falling into very high, high, moderate, low, and very low susceptibility zones, respectively. The model’s accuracy was validated with an 80.9% success rate through receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis. This LSM serves as a crucial tool for regional planning and management, providing valuable insights to mitigate landslide hazards. It facilitates informed decision-making and proactive measures and enhances resilience in landslide-prone areas, thereby contributing to the sustainable development and safety of the J&K Himalayan region. Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs), especially Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, are promising candidates for biological control of Popillia japonica larvae. Thus, there is a need to study native strains to ensure biological agents adapted to specific environmental conditions to improve their effectiveness in field applications. This work aimed to test the pathogenicity of five Azorean isolates of H. bacteriophora strains to third‐instar larvae of P. japonica under laboratory and semi‐field conditions. All EPNs were able to quickly infect larvae with LT50's ranging between 3.66 and 4.54 days in controlled laboratory conditions. The semi‐field experiment consisted of an EPN application in buried tubes containing five larvae each in May and October. After 15 days, larvae were recovered and confirmed for nematode parasitism. In May, Az29, Az148, Az170, and Az171 displayed a mean of 37% infected larvae per tube. In contrast, EPNs showed a lower infection ability during the experiment in October, and only Az148 maintained the number of parasitized larvae, with a proportion of 40% of infectivity. The results suggest that native EPNs, like Az148, could be better adapted to climatic and edaphic conditions to control P. japonica larvae. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) constitutes a major global health threat, to a very large extent due to the inadequate use of antibiotics. Additionally, the misuse of disinfectants can also trigger the selection of resistant clones, where micro-organisms develop an adaptative response and progress to resistance mechanisms. Cross-resistance may occur when a biocide's selective pressure induces antimicrobial resistance. To acknowledge the potential relationship between repeated and/or prolonged exposure to disinfectants and antimicrobial resistance profile adjustment. This systematic review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Studies published until December 2023 that were related to the interaction between disinfectants and antimicrobials were included. Further selection was based on the methodology of exposure. Selected studies included testing about 'exposure to sublethal concentrations' for seventeen disinfectants. The mechanism of action for the majority of the disinfectants involved interactions with the cell membrane. Chlorhexidine was the most studied disinfectant. Adaptation phenomena related to disinfectant exposure were documented and development of cross-resistance to antimicrobials was verified for several species, including Streptococcus spp., Klebsiella pneumoniae , Acinetobacter baumannii , Staphylococcus aureus , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and Candida spp. Changes associated with disinfectant exposure also influenced biofilm formation, colony morphology, and efflux pump activity – three relevant determinants of loss of antibiotic efficacy. Fraud against individuals is a major and growing problem. Understanding why some people fall victim to fraud, while others do not, is crucial in developing effective prevention strategies. We therefore studied the effect of socio-demographics, personality traits, mental, general, and cognitive health, routine Internet activities, and prior fraud knowledge on general fraud victimization, susceptibility to fraud attempts, and exposure to fraud attempts. We modeled data from a Dutch fraud victimization survey, using an exhaustive fraud taxonomy and a representative sample for which an elaborate set of historical background variables were available. Results show that there is no clear personality or other profile of those most at risk for fraud, except for having low self-control, having a non-Western, immigrant background or being a frequent Internet user. Soil erosion is a severe issue posing a number of adverse effects on the environment. It is a prominent hazard damaging the fertile agricultural land. Therefore, in this study, a spatio-temporal assessment of soil erosion was carried out in the Swat River Basin, Pakistan by employing the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE). The parameters of the RUSLE model are rainfall erosivity, soil erodibility, slope length and steepness, land management and support practice. These factors were developed from monthly mean rainfall data obtained from the Regional Metrology Department Peshawar, FAO soil database, land use data prepared from Landsat-5 and 8 satellite imageries, topographic data obtained from the ALOS PALSAR Digital Elevation Model (DEM). The analysis discovered that 13% of the study area experienced severe erosion. Results of the spatial distribution and vulnerability to erosion within the Swat River Basin have been categorized into different zones such as very low (59.7%), low (19.5%), moderate (5.37%), high (6.86%), and very high (5.96%). These results accentuate the necessity for mitigation measures in the study area to mitigate the loss of valuable topsoil. Background: Antibiotic resistance among Gram-negative bacteria in intensive care units (ICUs) is linked with high morbidity and mortality in patients. In this study, we estimated the therapeutic coverage of various antibiotics, focusing on cefiderocol and comparators, administered empirically against an infection of unknown origin in the ICU. Methods: In the ARTEMIS surveillance study, susceptibilities of 624 Italian Gram-negative isolates to amikacin, aztreonam-avibactam, cefiderocol, ceftazidime-avibactam, ceftolozane-tazobactam, colistin, imipenem-relebactam, meropenem, and meropenem-vaborbactam were tested by broth microdilution, and results were interpreted by European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing breakpoints. The susceptibility rates from the ARTEMIS study were extrapolated to Gram-negative isolates obtained from 5,774 patients in Italian ICUs in 2021. The sum of the predicted susceptibilities of individual pathogens represented the overall likelihood of in vitro activity of each antibiotic as early targeted therapy for ICU patients. Results: A total of 624 Italian Gram-negative isolates included 206 Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 138 Acinetobacter baumannii, 187 Klebsiella pneumoniae, and 93 Escherichia coli. Against A. baumannii, K. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa, and E. coli, the overall susceptibility rates for cefiderocol were 87.7%, 96.8%, 99%, and 100%, respectively; and for comparator agents, 8.7–96.4%, 25.7–100%, 73.3–100%, and 89.2–100%, respectively. Among the subset of meropenem-resistant isolates, susceptibility rates of A. baumannii, K. pneumoniae, and P. aeruginosa to cefiderocol were 86.4%, 96.2% and 100%, respectively. Corresponding susceptibility rates to comparator agents were 0–96.8%, 0–100%, and 6.4–100%, respectively. There were no meropenem-resistant isolates of E. coli. The extrapolation of data to isolates from Italian ICUs showed that the highest likelihood of therapeutic coverage, both overall and among meropenem-resistant isolates, was reported for colistin (96.8% and 72.2%, respectively) and cefiderocol (95.7% and 71.4%, respectively). All other antibiotics were associated with a likelihood below 73% overall and between 0% and 41.4% for meropenem-resistant isolates. Conclusions: Based on confirmed susceptibility rates and reported ICU prevalence of multiple Gram-negative species, cefiderocol showed a higher predicted therapeutic coverage and utility in ICUs compared with comparator beta-lactam–beta-lactamase inhibitor antibiotics. Phytophthora cinnamomi Rands devastates forest species worldwide, causing significant ecological and economic impacts. The European chestnut (Castanea sativa) is susceptible to this hemibiotrophic oomycete, whereas the Asian chestnuts (Castanea crenata and Castanea mollissima) are resistant and have been successfully used as resistance donors in breeding programs. The molecular mechanisms underlying the different disease outcomes among chestnut species are a key foundation for developing science-based control strategies. However, these are still poorly understood. Dual RNA sequencing was performed in C. sativa and C. crenata roots inoculated with P. cinnamomi. The studied time points represent the pathogen's hemibiotrophic lifestyle previously described at the cellular level. Phytophthora cinnamomi expressed several genes related to pathogenicity in both chestnut species, such as cell wall-degrading enzymes, host nutrient uptake transporters, and effectors. However, the expression of effectors related to the modulation of host programmed cell death (elicitins and NLPs) and sporulation-related genes was higher in the susceptible chestnut. After pathogen inoculation, 1,556 and 488 genes were differentially expressed by C. crenata and C. sativa, respectively. The most significant transcriptional changes occur at 2 h after inoculation (hai) in C. sativa and 48 hai in C. crenata. Nevertheless, C. crenata induced more defense-related genes, indicating that the resistant response to P. cinnamomi is controlled by multiple loci, including several pattern recognition receptors, genes involved in the phenylpropanoid, salicylic acid and ethylene/jasmonic acid pathways, and antifungal genes. Importantly, these results validate previously observed cellular responses for C. crenata. Collectively, this study provides a comprehensive time-resolved description of the chestnut-P. cinnamomi dynamic, revealing new insights into susceptible and resistant host responses and important pathogen strategies involved in disease development. This paper systematically reviews remote sensing technology and learning algorithms in exploring landslides. The work is categorized into four key components: (1) literature search characteristics, (2) geographical distribution and research publication trends, (3) progress of remote sensing and learning algorithms, and (4) application of remote sensing techniques and learning models for landslide susceptibility mapping, detections, prediction, inventory and deformation monitoring, assessment, and extraction and management. The literature selections were based on keyword searches using title/abstract and keywords from Web of Science and Scopus. A total of 186 research articles published between 2011 and 2024 were critically reviewed to provide answers to research questions related to the recent advances in the use of remote sensing technologies combined with artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) algorithms. The review revealed that these methods have high efficiency in landslide detection, prediction, monitoring, and hazard mapping. A few current issues were also identified and discussed. AbstractSeveral studies have reported the relationship between LIN28A gene polymorphisms (rs3811463 T > C and rs34787247 G > A) and cancer susceptibility, but the results are inconsistent and need further clarification. The current study aimed to evaluate their relationship and also to explore the relationship between LIN28A gene expression and immune infiltration, tumor stage, survival prognosis, and drug sensitivity in pan-cancer. The meta-analysis and data mining were completed by STATA software and the GSCA platform, respectively. The powdery mildew caused by Eeysiphe heraclei is a serious concern in Heracleum moellendorffii Hance. Therefore, exploring the mechanisms underlying sugar efflux from host cells to the fungus during the plant–fungus interaction showed great significance. The study successfully cloned HmSWEET8 and HmSTP1 genes based on RNA-seq technology. The complementation assays in yeast EBY.VW4000 found HmSWEET8 and HmSTP1 transporting hexose. Over-expressing or silencing HmSWEET8 in H. moellendorffii leaves increased or decreased powdery mildew susceptibility by changing glucose concentration in infective sites. Meanwhile, over-expressing HmSTP1 in H. moellendorffii leaves also increased powdery mildew susceptibility by elevating the glucose content of infective areas. Additionally, HmSTP1 expression was up-regulated obviously in HmSWEET8 over-expressed plants and inhibited significantly in HmSWEET8 silenced plants. Co-expressing HmSWEET8 and HmSTP1 genes significantly increased powdery mildew susceptibility compared with over-expressed HmSWEET8 or HmSTP1 plants alone. The results demonstrated that HmSTP1 may assist with HmSWEET8 to promote E. heraclei infection. Consequently, the infection caused by E. heraclei resulted in the activation of HmSWEET8, leading to an increased transfer of glucose to the apoplasmic spaces at the sites of infection, then, HmSTP1 facilitated the transport of glucose into host cells, promoting powdery mildew infection. Insect growth regulators, like S-methoprene, are heavily relied upon worldwide for larval mosquito chemical control due to their target specificity and long-lasting effects. In this study, susceptibility to S-methoprene was evaluated in Culex pipiens, a globally important vector species. Populations from 14 sites throughout the Chicago area with a long history of S-methoprene use and two sites with minimal use in Wisconsin were examined. Using a bioassay methodology and probit analyses, LC50 and LC90 values were calculated and compared to a susceptible laboratory strain to develop resistance ratios, then categorized for resistance intensity. The resistance ratios observed required the addition of another category, termed 'extreme' resistance, indicating resistance ratios greater than 100. 'Low' to 'extreme' levels of resistance to S-methoprene were detected throughout Illinois populations, with resistance ratios ranging from 2.33 to 1010.52. Resistance was not detected in populations where S-methoprene pressure has been very limited. These 'extreme' resistance ratios observed have never been documented in a wild vector species mosquito population. The relationships between historical S-methoprene use, resistance detected with laboratory bioassays, and the potential for field product failure remain unclear. The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stål.), poses a significant threat to rice cultivation, acting as a key pest. The emergence of resistance to various insecticide classes has emerged as a prominent challenge, significantly hindering the effective management of N. lugens. Triflumezopyrim, a novel mesoionic chemistry insecticide, has recently been introduced in India for controlling N. lugens. Establishing the baseline susceptibility and monitoring its effectiveness throughout the life cycle of the molecule are crucial aspects for a newly commercialized insecticide like triflumezopyrim. In this study, the baseline toxicity of triflumezopyrim against brown planthopper populations from nine hotspot locations in three southern states of India was evaluated using the rice seedling dip method. The LC50 values varied between 0.123 and 0.268 mg/L, showing a 2.18-fold variation. This information holds significance in monitoring potential changes in N. lugens susceptibility to triflumezopyrim in the future, thereby assisting in the formulation of effective management strategies. The eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau is one of the regions with the most severe landslide disasters on a global scale. With the intensification of seismic activity around the Tibetan Plateau and the increase in extreme rainfall events, the prevention of landslide disasters in the region is facing serious challenges. This article selects the Bailong River Basin located in this region as the research area, and the historical landslide data obtained from high-precision remote sensing image interpretation combined with field validation are used as the sample library. Using machine learning algorithms and data-driven landslide susceptibility assessment as the methods, 17 commonly used models and 17 important factors affecting the development of landslides are selected to carry out the susceptibility assessment. The results show that the BaggingClassifier model shows advantageous applicability in the region, and the landslide susceptibility distribution map of the Bailong River Basin was generated using this model. The results show that the road and population density are both high in very high and high susceptible areas, indicating that there is still a significant potential landslide risk in the basin. The quantitative evaluation of the main influencing factors emphasizes that distance to a road is the most important factor. However, due to the widespread utilization of ancient landslides by local residents for settlement and agricultural cultivation over hundreds of years, the vast majority of landslides are likely to have occurred prior to human settlement. Therefore, the importance of this factor may be overestimated, and the evaluation of the factors still needs to be dynamically examined in conjunction with the development history of the region. The five factors of NDVI, altitude, faults, average annual rainfall, and rivers have a secondary impact on landslide susceptibility. The research results have important significance for the susceptibility assessment of landslides in the complex environment of human–land interaction and for the construction of landslide disaster monitoring and early warning systems in the Bailong River Basin. The rostral ventromedial medulla (RVM) is a crucial structure in the descending pain modulatory system, playing a key role as a relay for both the facilitation and inhibition of pain. The chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) model has been widely used to study stressinduced behavioral impairments associated with depression in rodents. Several studies suggest that CSDS also causes changes related to chronic pain. In this study, we aimed to investigate the involvement of the RVM in CSDS-induced behavioral impairments, including those associated with chronic pain. We used chemogenetics to activate or inhibit the RVM during stress. The results indicated that the RVM is a vital hub influencing stress outcomes. Rostral ventromedial medulla activation during CSDS ameliorates all the stress outcomes, including social avoidance, allodynia, hyperalgesia, anhedonia, and behavioral despair. In addition, RVM inhibition in animals exposed to a subthreshold social defeat stress protocol induces a susceptible phenotype, facilitating all stress outcomes. Finally, chronic RVM inhibition--without any social stress stimulus--induces chronic pain but not depressive-like behaviors. Our findings provide insights into the comorbidity between chronic pain and depression by indicating the involvement of the RVM in establishing social stress-induced behavioral responses associated with both chronic pain and depression. Resilience and vulnerability are widely used concepts in global change research. Resilience and vulnerability are related, but they are not synonymous and should not be used interchangeably. We offer a joint perspective on these two concepts, highlighting their strengths and synthesising ways forward to use them to advance the assessment of global change impacts in social–ecological systems. Resilience and vulnerability are important concepts to understand, anticipate, and manage global change impacts on forest ecosystems. However, they are often used confusingly and inconsistently, hampering a synthetic understanding of global change, and impeding communication with managers and policy-makers. Both concepts are powerful and have complementary strengths, reflecting their different history, methodological approach, components, and spatiotemporal focus. Resilience assessments address the temporal response to disturbance and the mechanisms driving it. Vulnerability assessments focus on spatial patterns of exposure and susceptibility, and explicitly address adaptive capacity and stakeholder preferences. We suggest applying the distinct concepts of resilience and vulnerability where they provide particular leverage, and deduce a number of lessons learned to facilitate the next generation of global change assessments. Citrus black spot (CBS) is a fungal disease caused by Phyllosticta citricarpa Kiely, (McAlpine Van der Aa), with most cultivars being susceptible to infection. Currently, disease control is based on the application of protective fungicides, which is restricted due to resistance, health and environmental concerns. Although using natural products for disease management is gaining momentum, more advances are required. This study obtained the metabolic profiles of the essential oil and cuticular waxes of two citrus cultivars with a varying susceptibility to CBS infection using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. A multivariate data analysis identified possible biomarker compounds that contributed to the difference in susceptibility between the two cultivars. Several identified biomarkers were tested in vitro for their antifungal properties against P. citricarpa. Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in females. Genome‐wide association studies (GWASs) have proposed cervical cancer susceptibility variants at the HLA locus on chromosome 6p21. To corroborate these findings and investigate their functional impact in cervical tissues and cell lines, we genotyped nine variants from cervical cancer GWASs (rs17190106, rs535777, rs1056429, rs2763979, rs143954678, rs113937848, rs3117027, rs3130214, and rs9477610) in a German hospital‐based series of 1122 invasive cervical cancers, 1408 dysplasias, and 1196 healthy controls. rs17190106, rs1056429 and rs143954678/rs113937848 associated with cervical malignancies overall, while rs17190106 and rs535777 associated specifically with invasive cancer (OR = 0.69, 95% CI = 0.55–0.86, p = 0.001) or adenocarcinomas (OR = 1.63, 95%CI = 1.17–2.27, p = 0.004), respectively. We tested these and one previously genotyped GWAS variant, rs9272117, for potential eQTL effects on 36 gene transcripts at the HLA locus in 280 cervical epithelial tissues. The strongest eQTL pairs were rs9272117 and HLA‐DRB6 (p = 1.9x10E‐5), rs1056429 and HLA‐DRB5 (p = 2.5x10E‐4), and rs535777 and HLA‐DRB1 (p = 2.7x10E‐4). We also identified transcripts that were specifically upregulated (DDX39B, HCP5, HLA‐B, LTB, NFKBIL1) or downregulated (HLA‐C, HLA‐DPB2) in HPV+ or HPV16+ samples. In comparison, treating cervical epithelial cells with proinflammatory cytokine γ‐IFN led to a dose‐dependent induction of HCP5, HLA‐B, HLA‐C, HLA‐DQB1, HLA‐DRB1, HLA‐DRB6, and repression of HSPA1L. Taken together, these results identify relevant genes from both the MHC class I and II regions that are inflammation‐responsive in cervical epithelium and associate with HPV (HCP5, HLA‐B, HLA‐C) and/or with genomic cervical cancer risk variants (HLA‐DRB1, HLA‐DRB6). Ubiquitin modification and alternative polyadenylation play crucial roles in the onset and progression of cancer. Hence, this study aims to comprehensively and deeply understand gene regulation and associated biological processes in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) by integrating both mechanisms. Alternative polyadenylation (APA)-related E3 ubiquitin ligases in LUAD were identified through multiple databases, and the association between selected genetic loci influencing gene expression (apaQTL-SNPs) and LUAD risk were evaluated through the GWAS database of the Female Lung Cancer Consortium in Asia (FLCCA). Subsequently, the interaction between RNF213 and ZBTB20, as well as their functional mechanisms in LUAD, were investigated using bioinformatics analysis, Western blot, co-immunoprecipitation, and colony formation experiments. A total of five apaQTL-SNPs (rs41301932, rs4494603, rs9890400, rs56066320, and rs41301932), located on RNF213, were significantly associated with LUAD risk (p < 0.05), and they inhibit tumor growth through ubiquitin-mediated degradation of ZBTB20. The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)+936 C/T polymorphism and the risk of type 2 diabetic retinopathy (T2DR) by a method of meta-analysis. Six online databases were queried to identify studies investigating the VEGF+936 C/T polymorphism that influenced T2DR up to August 2023. The statistical tool of the pooled data was adopted using Stata 15.0 software. The experimental group comprised patients with T2DR, while patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus without retinopathy were considered as the controls. The odds ratio (OR) was utilized as effect size. Eight eligible publications were identified in this review, including 1546 patients with T2DR. The combined results revealed that the VEGF+936 C/T polymorphism was significantly associated with the T2DR risk under the allelic (C/T: OR=0.54, p<0.001), the dominant (CC+CT/TT: OR=0.37, p<0.001), recessive (CC/CT+TT: OR=0.52, p=0.001), homozygous (CC/TT: OR=0.31, p<0.001), and heterozygous (CT/TT: OR=0.55, p=0.005) gene models. No significant correlation was observed regarding the VEGF+936 C/T polymorphism that contributed to the risk of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) versus non-PDR. In conclusion, the VEGF+936 C/T polymorphism significantly contributed to the T2DR risk. The assessment accuracy difference of the support vector machine(SVM)for the same sample data under double binary classification, multiclassification, and probability ratio-coupled classification is investigated by aiding these methods with PR model and comparing the results. The optimal classification strategy is applied to examine the landslide susceptibility of Huangling County and to improve the accuracy of landslide susceptibility assessment by SVM. The results show that the multicollinearity and correlation analyses effectively improve the assessment accuracy and performance of the SVM. The PR-SVM double binary classification model also provides better prediction than SVM multiclassification and PR-SVM-coupled multiclassification models. In this study, 115 landslide disaster points were surveyed in detail, 93.91% of the points fall into medium and higher susceptibility zones, while 63.48% fall into high or very high susceptibility zones. The assessment results indicate that this method can be efficiently used for evaluating the landslide susceptibility. In Huangling County, zones with very high susceptibility are low, scattering in semi-hard stratified clastic and loess regions with high gully densities. High susceptibility zones in Huangling County are primarily found in loess regions with high hydraulic erosion coefficients, rainfall nonuniformity coefficients and gully densities. Cerium doped Mn0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 spinel nano-magnets were synthesized using sol–gel technique and characterized through x-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform-infrared radiation (FT-IR), impedance analyzer, modulus spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The cations redistribution with Ce3+ substitution strongly affect the physical properties of the samples. Single phase spinel structure is identified for the synthesized samples and the crystal imperfection is found low. The lattice parameters reduce with Ce3+ concentration due to lanthanide contraction. The saturation magnetization of Mn0.5Zn0.5CexFe2−xO4 is found maximum for the x = 0 sample. The measured magnetic properties such as coercivity (Hc), retentivity (Mr) and saturation magnetization (Ms) decrease with increase in Ce3+ concentration. The synthesized samples show positive values of magnetic susceptibility which show anti-ferromagnetic/ferrimagnetic nature. The SEM images show increase in size of the grain with increasing sintering conditions parallel by significant decrease of pores, the position and the existence of tetrahedral and octahedral sites. The FT-IR spectra reveal the metal–oxygen oscillations at tetrahedral and octahedral sites. The dielectric constants are found in the range −118.6 to −242.5 at 2 MHz, which revealed moderate strain sensitivity, low ac conductivity and low dielectric loss. Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility of a new nickel‐based alloy C‐HRA‐2 under two types of superheated steam (SHS) (0.1 and 8 MPa) and supercritical water (SCW) (25 MPa) at 650°C was studied through slow strain rate tensile tests at a strain rate of 5 × 10−7 s−1. The results indicate that C‐HRA‐2 exhibits SCC susceptibility in both SHS and SCW, and the susceptibility increases with increasing pressure. Transgranular fracture (located inside) characterized by dimples/micropores and intergranular fracture (located at the edge) characterized by rock‐sugar‐like morphology was observed in all specimens. The brittleness of the alloy increases with the increase of medium pressure. A large number of cracks perpendicular to the loading axis were noticed on the gauge surface. Landslides are a severe geological hazard in northeastern India, particularly in Mizoram's Aizawl district. To assess this hazard, we conducted a landslide susceptibility mapping study using the frequency ratio (FR) and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) methods. Twelve factors, including slope, elevation, aspect, curvature, topographic wetness index, topographic ruggedness index, rainfall erosivity factor, geology, land use land cover, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and distance to road, were considered. The final susceptibility maps were created by combining these factors, each weighted according to its importance. Since no standard classification guidelines existed, we compared different systems like GIS-based geometric interval (GIC), natural breaks (NBC), and quantile interval (QIC) with mean-standard deviation (MSC). The area was divided into five susceptibility zones: very high, high, moderate, low, and very low. We evaluated the accuracy of these systems using success rate curve (SRC) and quality sum ratio (Qs) techniques. SRC results showed similar performance for GIC, NBC, QIC, and MSC classifications. The AHP method also yielded comparable results. After analyzing the AUC under SRC and Qs, we selected the MSC classification system as the optimal approach for landslide susceptibility mapping. Notably, the distance to roads factor had the highest predictive value, highlighting its importance in identifying slope instability for effective management strategies. As landslides pose significant risks in northeastern India, and our study using FR and AHP methods, along with MSC classification, provides valuable insights for mitigating this geological hazard. Aspergillus carbonarius causes severe decays on berries in vineyards and is among the main fungal species responsible for grape contamination by ochratoxin A (OTA), which is the foremost mycotoxin produced by this fungus. The main goal of this study was to investigate at the transcriptome level the comparative profiles between two table grape varieties (Victoria and Fraoula, the white and red variety, respectively) after their inoculation with a virulent OTA-producing A. carbonarius strain. The two varieties revealed quite different transcriptomic signatures and the expression profiles of the differential expressed genes (DEGs) highlighted distinct and variety-specific responses during the infection period. The significant enrichment of pathways related to the modulation of transcriptional dynamics towards the activation of defence responses, the triggering of the metabolic shunt for the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, mainly phenylpropanoids, and the upregulation of DEGs encoding phytoalexins, transcription factors, and genes involved in plant–pathogen interaction and immune signaling transduction was revealed in an early time point in Fraoula, whereas, in Victoria, any transcriptional reprogramming was observed after a delay. However, both varieties, to some extent, also showed common expression dynamics for specific DEG families, such as those encoding for laccases and stilbene synthases. Jasmonate (JA) may play a critical modulator role in the defence machinery as various JA-biosynthetic DEGs were upregulated. Along with the broader modulation of the transcriptome that was observed in white grape, expression profiles of specific A. carbonarius genes related to pathogenesis, fungal sporulation, and conidiation highlight the higher susceptibility of Victoria. Furthermore, the A. carbonarius transcriptional patterns directly associated with the regulation of the pathogen OTA-biosynthesis gene cluster were more highly induced in Victoria than in Fraoula. The latter was less contaminated by OTA and showed substantially lower sporulation. These findings contribute to uncovering the interplay beyond this plant–microbe interaction. Fucosyltransferase 2 (FUT2) gene, which regulates the formation of Histoblood group antigens, could determine the human susceptibility to norovirus. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between FUT2 gene polymorphism and susceptibility to norovirus gastroenteritis in Han Chinese population. A total of 212 children patients with acute gastroenteritis were enrolled. The stool and serum samples were collected respectively. We used the qPCR method to detect the norovirus infection status from the stool samples, and we used serum samples to detect the FUT2 polymorphism. A case‐control study was conducted to investigate the three common SNPs polymorphisms (rs281377, rs1047781, and rs601338) of FUT2 gene with sanger sequencing method. The results indicated that the homozygous genotypes and mutant allele of rs1047781 (A385T) would downgrade the risk of norovirus gastroenteritis in Chinese Han population (AA vs. TT, odds ratio [OR] = 0.098, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.026−0.370, p = 0.001; AA + AT vs. TT, OR = 0.118. 95% CI = 0.033−0.424, p = 0.001; A vs. T, OR = 0.528, 95% CI = 0.351−0.974, p = 0.002). There were no significant difference of rs281377 (C357T) and rs601338 (G428A) polymorphisms between norovirus positive and norovirus negative groups (p > 0.05). The haplotype T‐T‐G was less susceptible (OR = 0.49, 95% CI = 0.31−0.79, p = 0.0034) to norovirus infection compared to other haplotypes. Our results investigated the relationship between the FUT2 gene polymorphisms and norovirus susceptibility in Han Chinese population, and firstly revealed that children with homozygous genotypes and mutant alleles of FUT2 rs1047781 (A385T) were less susceptible to norovirus gastroenteritis. One of the most serious diseases affecting dairy cattle, causing significant losses both in breeding and economy, is mastitis, an inflammation of the mammary gland. Due to the economic importance of this issue, many research teams are striving to develop an easy-to-apply and, most importantly, effective method to prevent mastitis. The use of traditional methods for mastitis detecting and treating, as well as improvement in hygienic conditions, have not yielded the expected results in combating this disease combating. Currently, the main task is to find the tools that would allow for the rapid detection of mastitis and the improvement of udder health in cows while maintaining high milk production, which is essential for the profitability of dairy cattle farming. Accurate and rapid diagnostic tools, with the simultaneous capability of identifying pathogens, may help to reduce losses. Sufficient sensitivity and specificity for tests are required to minimize the number of false-positive and false-negative cases. Efforts are also being made to determine the optimal threshold value for detecting the disease at its earliest possible stage. The estimation of somatic cell count (SCC) as a phenotypic indicator of mastitis is widely used. A more precise parameter for accurately describing udder health is the differential somatic cell count (DSCC). The well-known California Mastitis Test (CMT) is an inexpensive, easy, and rapid method for mastitis detection useful on farms. The latest diagnostic methods for mastitis utilize tests based on the activity of N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase (NAGase) or lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) as well as the determination of acute phase proteins (APPs) in blood serum and milk (such as haptoglobin, serum amyloid A, fibrinogen, and ceruloplasmin). Research also focuses on the genomic improvement of mastitis resistance in successive generations, and for this purpose, many quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been identified. In recent years, immunotherapy has become an increasingly common area of research, including vaccinations, T/B cell immunotherapy, RNA immunotherapy, epigenetic immunotherapy, stem cell therapy, and native secretory factors. An important aspect of the control of mastitis is the implementation of strategies that focus primarily on preventing the disease through appropriate breeding and farm management practices. In the forthcoming years, a significant challenge will be the development of universal diagnostic and therapeutic strategies that can be effectively implemented as alternatives to antibiotic therapy. While prior research has identified either state (situational cues) or trait (technology use) factors that influence users' response to phishing attacks, little previous research has investigated simultaneously user control of both state and trait factors on susceptibility to phishing. Additionally, the influence of users' automatic or routine technology use, user traits, on phishing susceptibility has not been examined. We investigate the effects of users' control of both state and trait factors on phishing susceptibility. Our results offer several interesting insights. Specifically, while routine technology use trait decreases phishing susceptibility, automatic technology use trait increases phishing susceptibility. Furthermore, while situational cues are related to phishing susceptibility, only users' automatic technology use is related to susceptibility to phishing under message sender situational cues. Our findings provide practical insights for developing countermeasures that incorporate the level of control into training programs that target trainees with customised training aimed at preventing successful phishing attacks. This paper proposes a flood vulnerability index utilizing publicly available data that can be applied to different spatial scales. The index enables the development of an appropriate flood risk management strategy, tailored to those factors of vulnerability that have the greatest impact on the overall flood vulnerability of a given place. Currently, following a shift in the approach to flood protection, vulnerability has become a critical element of disaster mitigation. This index is an important contribution to the existing body of research as it can be applied to flood risk management strategies overcoming the ambiguity of definitions of vulnerability and the dynamic nature of temporal and spatial scales of analysis. The proposed flood vulnerability index is a multifaceted approach, encompassing physical, social, economic, environmental, and institutional attributes. In order to create the index, the literature on flood vulnerability was reviewed, including definitions, research methods, as well as the factors and constituents that are major components of vulnerability. The proposed indicator can be used by policy-makers responsible for flood risk management, especially in EU countries, in order to minimize the negative consequences of floods. Objective To investigate the correlation between the polymorphism of glutamate receptor ionized NMDA1 receptor gene (GRINI) and the susceptibility and drug resistance of epilepsy in Han population in western Guangdong. Methods A total of 200 with epilepsy patients (case group) and 200 healthy adults (control group) were included. Peripheral venous blood was extracted to extract whole genome DNA, and the gene polymorphisms of rs2301363 and rs11146020 loci of GRIN1 gene were detected. The case group was further divided into the drug resistant group (52 cases) and the non-drug resistant group (148 cases). The differences in genotype and allele frequency distribution of rs2301363 and rs11146020 loci of GRINI gene were compared among the groups. Results There were significant differences in the genotype and allele frequency distribution of GRINI gene rs2301363 and rs11146020 between the case group and the control group (P< 0.05). The frequency of TT and CT genotypes of GRINI gene rs2301363 locus in the case group was significantly higher than that in the control group. Compared with CC genotype, TT and CT genotypes increased the risk of epilepsy (OR>1). The frequencies of AG and AA genotypes at rs11146020 locus of GRINI gene in the case group were significantly higher than those in the control group. Compared with GG genotype, AG and AA genotypes increased the the risk of epilepsy (OR>1). There were no significant difference in the distribution of genotypes and allele frequencies of GRINI gene between the drug resistant and the non-drug resistant groups (P>0.05). The beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua (Hübner), is a major pest of maize, cotton, soybean, and many other crops globally. Despite the widespread deployment of Bt transgenic maize for pest control worldwide, the efficacy of Bt lepidopteran-resistant transgenic maize in managing S. exigua remains rarely studied. In this study, we quantified the expression level of pyramided Cry1Ab and Vip3Aa toxins in Bt maize (event DBN3601T) and evaluated their control efficiency against S. exigua under both laboratory and field conditions. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) results showed that the expression levels of Cry1Ab and Vip3Aa proteins in DBN3601T maize tissues followed a decreasing order as follows: V5-leaf > V8-leaf > VT-tassel > R2-kernel > R1-silk. Diet-overlay assay results showed that the LC50 values of Cry1Ab and Vip3Aa proteins against S. exigua larvae were 11.66 ng/cm2 and 27.74 ng/cm2, respectively, with corresponding GIC50 values at 1.59 ng/cm2 and 7.93 ng/cm2. Bioassay using various tissues of the DBN3601T maize indicated that after 7 days of infestation, mortality rates of neonates and third-instar larvae ranged from 86% to 100% and 58% to 100%, respectively. Mortality was highest on V5 and V8 leaves, followed by R2-kernel, VT-tassel, and R1-silk. Field trials demonstrated that DBN3601T maize exhibited significantly lower larval density, damage rate, and leaf damage score compared to non-Bt maize. Field cage trial showed that the control efficacy of DBN3601T maize at the vegetative stage could reach 98%. Cationic biocides (CBs), such as quaternary ammonium compounds and biguanides, are critical for controlling the spread of bacterial pathogens like Enterococcus spp., a leading cause of multidrug-resistant healthcare-associated infections. The widespread use of CBs in recent decades has prompted concerns about the potential emergence of Enterococcus spp. populations exhibiting resistance to both biocides and antibiotics. Such concerns arise from their frequent exposure to subinhibitory concentrations of CBs in clinical, food chain and diverse environmental settings. This comprehensive narrative review aimed to explore the complexity of the Enterococcus' response to CBs and of their possible evolution toward resistance. To that end, CBs' activity against diverse Enterococcus spp. collections, the prevalence and roles of genes associated with decreased susceptibility to CBs, and the potential for co- and crossresistance between CBs and antibiotics are reviewed. Significant methodological and knowledge gaps are identified, highlighting areas that future studies should address to enhance our comprehension of the impact of exposure to CBs on Enterococcus spp. populations' epidemiology. Objective: To reveal the contributing effects of MTDH gene SNPs in the risk of invasive ductal breast cancer (IDC). Patients and methods: A case–control study was conducted, recruiting a total of 300 cases of IDC and 565 cancer-free controls from East China. Genotyping of three single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the MTDH gene was performed. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood samples of patients. The three SNPs (rs1311 T > C, rs16896059 G > A, rs2449512 A > G) in the MTDH gene were selected for detection using a TaqMan real-time polymerase chain reaction assay. The association between MTDH and the risk of IDC was analyzed employing an epidemiology case–control study and a multinomial logistic regression model. Results: Among the three evaluated SNPs, rs1311 T > C, rs16896059 G > A, and rs2449512 A > G demonstrated a significant association with an increased risk of IDC. Furthermore, stratified analysis revealed that individuals carrying the rs1311 CC genotype, rs16896059 GA/AA genotypes, and rs2449512 GG genotype were more susceptible to developing IDC in subgroups of patients younger than 53 years, without family history of IDC, pre-menopause status, clinical stage 2, high grade, with no distant metastasis or invasion, Her2-positive type, ER positive, PR positive, and Ki67 cells less than 10%. However, carriers of the rs16896059 GA/AA genotypes and rs2449512 GG genotype had an elevate the risk of IDC in patients with tumor size larger than 2 cm, post-menopause status, clinical stage 3, with invasion, lymph node infiltration, ER negative, PR negative, Her2 negative, and Ki67 cells exceeding 10%. Compared to the reference haplotype TGA, haplotypes TAA, TAG, and TGG were significantly associated with an increased IDC risk. Conclusion: In this study, we demonstrated a significant association between MTDH gene polymorphisms and an increased risk of IDC. For over a century, the global consumption of asphalt binder in asphalt mixture production has been substantial. In the Heet region (west of Iraq), two distinct forms of natural asphalt (NA) deposits exist: rock asphalt and sulfur spring asphalt. This study focused on using NA sourced from sulfur springs. The aim was to investigate the potential of incorporating NA into local asphalt mixtures. To achieve this, NA was heated to 163°C for varying durations. After heat treatment, laboratory tests were conducted on NA. The findings suggest that by heating NA for 20 hours, it conforms to Iraqi specifications in terms of physical properties. Furthermore, compared to conventional petroleum asphalt, treated NA showed greater resistance to temperature fluctuations, making it ideal for hotter climates. The study also found that NA enhances mechanical properties significantly. Specifically, the NA mixture recorded the highest indirect tensile strength, with a tensile strength ratio of 81.2%, a slight increase of 0.37% over traditional mixes. In summary, NA mixtures exhibit commendable performance. Given its abundance and affordability in Iraq, after considering heat treatment costs and environmental impact, NA holds promise for the future of asphalt concrete production for the construction of flexible pavement. Canine leishmaniosis (CanL), caused by Leishmania infantum , is a complex disease of growing importance in Europe. Clinical manifestations result from the down-modulation of the host immune response through multiple host-parasite interactions. Although several factors might influence CanL progression, this is the first known study evaluating risk factors for its different clinical stages in a large referral hospital population (n = 35.669) from an endemic area, over a 20 year period. Genome-wide scans for selection signatures were also conducted to explore the genomic component of clinical susceptibility to L. infantum infection. The prevalence of CanL was 3.2% (16.7% stage I; 43.6% stage II; 32.1% stage III; 7.6% stage IV). Dog breed (crossbreed), bodyweight (<10 kg), living conditions (indoors), regular deworming treatment, and being vaccinated against Leishmania significantly decreased the transmission risk and the risk for developing severe clinical forms. Conversely, the detection of comorbidities was associated with advanced clinical forms, particularly chronic kidney disease, neoplasia, cryptorchidism, infectious tracheobronchitis and urate urolithiasis, although those did not impact the clinical outcome. Significant associations between an increased risk of severe clinical stages and findings in the anamnesis (renal or skin-related manifestations) and physical examination (ocular findings) were also detected, highlighting their diagnostic value in referred cases of CanL. Sixteen breeds were found to be significantly more susceptible to developing severe stages of leishmaniosis (e.g. Great Dane, Rottweiler, English Springer Spaniel, Boxer, American Staffordshire Terrier, Golden Retriever), while 20 breeds displayed a clinical resistantance phenotype and, thus, are more likely to mount an efficient immune response against L. infantum (e.g. Pointer, Samoyed, Spanish Mastiff, Spanish Greyhound, English Setter, Siberian Husky). Genomic analyses of these breeds retrieved 12 regions under selection, 63 candidate genes and pinpointed multiple biological pathways such as the IRE1 branch of the unfolded protein response, which could play a critical role in clinical susceptibility to L. infantum infection. Knowledge of hazard conditions due to mass movements is one of the non-structural measures for risk management, urban planning, and protection of natural resources. To obtain this type of mapping, a spatial construction was started by correlating the historical movements with the inherent variables of the terrain by means of the bivariate statistical method, which assigns densities or weights of evidence to estimate the degree of susceptibility. This model was combined with the triggering factors (rainfall and earthquake) to determine the spatiotemporal conditions (hazard). From this procedure, it was obtained that the susceptibility model presents 34% (32.33 km2) of the total area in the high and very high categories, especially in the regions of Mount Siradella and Mount Faro. The validation of the present model obtained a value of 0.945 with the ROC curve. For the hazard condition, 34.1% (32.06 km2) of the study area was found to be in the high and very high category, especially in the municipalities of El Grove, Sanxenxo, and A Illa de Arousa, which have the greatest extension. The present evaluation is an advance in the knowledge of the risk and the actions that can be derived, as in turn, this type of study is an easy tool to obtain due to its low cost and information processing. Most regional landslide susceptibility models do not consider the evolving soil hydrological conditions leading up to a multiple occurrence regional landslide event. This results in inaccurate predictions due to the non-linear behaviour of the terrain. To address this, we have developed a simple and efficient model that incorporates the mid-term evolution of soil hydrological conditions. The model combines a water balance model and a geotechnical model based on infinite slope theory. The analysis of 561 high-intensity rainfall events in a typhoon-prone region of the Philippines revealed that the percolation of water during the 5-month wet season is crucial in determining landslide susceptibility. Consequently, high-intensity rainfall events at the start of the wet season are less likely to trigger landslides, while later events are more hazardous. We analysed the change in landslide susceptibility during the 2018 rainy season by comparing the probability of failure (PoF) before and after three high-intensity rainfall events (July, August and September). Only the event in September caused a significant increase in the probability of failure (PoF). The model showed an accuracy of 0.63, with stable cells better represented than unstable cells. The antecedent hydrological conditions on the lower soil layers are responsible for changes in landslide susceptibility. Our findings support the hypothesis that new approaches to developing hydro-meteorological thresholds for landslide early warning systems should be evaluated, especially in regions with strong seasonality. Objectives: The objective of the study was to identify bacterial pathogens and their antimicrobial sensitivity profile associated with cases of canine progressive ulcerative keratitis. Materials and Methods: Analysis of microbial culture and sensitivity results from dogs with progressive ulcerative keratitis presenting to a UK referral practice between December 2018 and August 2020. Results: Positive bacterial cultures were obtained from 80/148 (54%) of the canine ulcers sampled with 99 bacterial isolates cultured. Streptococcus canis (n = 29), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n = 19), and Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (n = 16) were the most common isolates. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was more likely to be isolated whether the ulcer was clinically malacic at the time of sampling (OR = 10.1, p <.001). Ulcers treated prior to culture with fusidic acid were 7.6 times more likely to be positive than those treated with any other antimicrobial(s). Bacterial isolates demonstrated resistance against neomycin (85%), fusidic acid (78%), and tetracycline (68%). Conversely, isolates were most likely to be sensitive to gentamicin (88%), ofloxacin (77%), ciprofloxacin (73%), and chloramphenicol (64%). Antimicrobial combinations of chloramphenicol or gentamicin with a fluoroquinolone (ofloxacin or ciprofloxacin) or chloramphenicol combined with gentamicin were the most effective on in vitro analysis (over 90% susceptibility of all isolates). Conclusion: The most common bacterial species associated with canine progressive ulcerative keratitis in a UK referral population were S. canis, P. aeruginosa, and S. pseudintermedius. Combination antimicrobial therapy is recommended pending culture and sensitivity results given the varied antimicrobial susceptibility profiles and significant bacterial in vitro resistance to antimicrobial monotherapy. Background: Candida vulturna is an emerging pathogen belonging to the Metshnikowiaceae family together with Candida auris and Candida haemulonii species complex. Some strains of this species were reported to be resistant to several antifungal agents. Objectives: This study aims to address identification difficulties, evaluate antiungal susceptibilities and explore the molecular mechanisms of azole resistance of Candida vulturna. Methods: We studied five C. vulturna clinical strains isolated in three Colombian cities. Identification was performed by phenotypical, proteomic and molecular methods. Antifungal susceptibility testing was performed following CLSI protocol. Its ERG11 genes were sequenced and a substitution was encountered in azole resistant isolates. To confirm the role of this substitution in the resistance phenotype, Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains with a chimeric ERG11 gene were created. Results: Discrepancies in identification methods are highlighted. Sequencing confirmed the identification as C. vulturna. Antifungal susceptibility varied among strains, with four strains exhibiting reduced susceptibility to azoles and amphotericin B. ERG11 sequencing showed a point mutation (producing a P135S substitution) that was associated with the azole‐resistant phenotype. Conclusions: This study contributes to the understanding of C. vulturna's identification challenges, its susceptibility patterns, and sheds light on its molecular mechanisms of azole resistance. To explore the association between apaQTL/eQTL-SNPs and the susceptibility to silicosis. A silicosis-related GWAS was initially conducted to screen for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with the risk of silicosis. Candidate SNPs with apaQTL and eQTL functions were then obtained from the 3′aQTL-atlas and GTEx databases. Subsequently, additional case–control studies were performed to validate the relationship between the candidate apaQTL/eQTL-SNPs and the risk of silicosis. Finally, experiments were conducted to illustrate APA events occurring at different alleles of the identified apaQTL/eQTL-SNPs. The combined results of the GWAS and iMLDR validations indicate that the variant T allele of the rs2974341 located on SMIM19 (additive model: OR = 0.66, the 95% CI = 0.53–0.84, P = 0.001) and the variant T allele of the rs2390488 located on TMTC4 (additive model: OR = 0.72, 95% CI = 0.57–0.90, P = 0.005) were significantly associated with decreased risk of developing silicosis susceptibility. Furthermore, 3′RACE experiments verified the presence of two poly (A) sites (proximal and distal) in SMIM19, rs2974341 may remotely regulate the binding between miRNA-3646 and SMIM19 with its high LD locus rs2974353 to affect the expression level of SMIM19. The rs2974341 variant T allele may contribute to the generation of the shorter 3′UTR transcript of SMIM19 and affect the binding of miRNA-3646 to the target gene SMIM19. Tuberculosis (TB) remains a universal health problem with significant morbidity and mortality. Understanding the genetic factors affecting TB susceptibility is crucial for effective prevention and treatment. Interleukin-10 (IL-10), a regulatory cytokine, may influence TB pathogenesis through genetic variations. The PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar databases were searched to find studies on the relationship between IL-10 gene variants and tuberculosis. Relevant studies from 2016 to 2024 were identified through database searches. The selected case-control studies met the inclusion criteria. Software such as Review Manager was used to analyze quantitative data, with statistical significance set at p< 0.05. We calculated odds ratios and their respective confidence intervals to evaluate the associations. Nine studies examined IL-10 gene polymorphisms (rs1800871 and rs1800872) in TB susceptibility. The present study did not show a notable association between IL-10 gene polymorphisms and TB among all genetic models (allelic, homozygote, heterozygote, dominant, and recessive). The obtained p-value > 0.05 indicates an insignificant association between both gene polymorphisms of IL-10. An OR-1.13; 95% CI-0.85, 1.50 was obtained for the SNP rs1800871, whereas an OR-1.02; 95% CI-0.75, 1.40 was obtained for the SNP rs1800872. Our meta-analysis revealed no significant association between IL-10 gene polymorphisms and TB susceptibility, suggesting that these variations may not significantly contribute to TB susceptibility. Background: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a common cause of childhood disability, and the incidence of DDH shows significant familial aggregation. As the genetic factors of DDH remain unknown, the correlation between five candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and DDH was evaluated in the Han Chinese population of Southwest China. Methods: A case‒control association study was conducted in 276 patients with DDH and 318 healthy controls. SNP genotyping in the case and control groups was performed by SNPshot and multiple PCR. SNPs were genotyped in the case and control groups by multiplex PCR. The relationship between DDH and candidate SNPs was evaluated using the χ2 test. Results: The genotype distributions of rs291412 in HIBCH and rs769956 in FTCDNL1 were different between the case and control groups (P < 0.05). After genetic model analysis, logistic regression analysis revealed that the C allele of rs291412 had a protective effect on DDH (OR = 0.605, P = 0.010) and that the G allele of rs769956 was a risk factor (OR = 2.939, P = 0.010).s.
