Airway obstruction in asthma may in part be due to surfactant dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to investigate surfactant function and composition in brochoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluids of healthy controls (C-) and asthmatics (A-) before and after segmental allergen challenge.

Surfactant ist nicht nur für die Stabilisierung der Alviolen wichtig, sondern scheint auch eine Bedeutung in den Atemwegen zu haben. Die Atemwegsobstruktion beim Asthma könnte daher teilweise auf eienr gestörten Surfactantfunktion beruhen. Wir untersuchten die Surfactantfunktion bei Asthmatikern (A-) und gesunden Probanden (C-) nach segmentaler Allergenprovokoation.

Abstract

Imapaired graft function in the early postoperative course after lung transplantation may be due to alterations of composition and function of pulmonary surfactant. However, only little is known about the integrity of the surfactant system in the long-term follow-up of lung transplant (LTx) recipients. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate surface activity of pulmonary surfactant in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluids of LTx patients in comparison to healthy controls.
