Primary teachers working in English schools are usually responsible for teaching all of the pupils in their class all curriculum subjects. Therefore, it is likely that the relationship that an individual teacher has with each of these subjects will be significant in relation to their practice and, as a result, is worthy of investigation. This research uses geography as a lens to focus on the relationship that a group of primary teachers has with one area of the primary curriculum. The research explores each of the participant’s unique geographical stories and applies a critical analysis to the relationship between the individual’s subject-specific identity and their overall identity as primary teachers. The participants in the research openly express an enthusiasm for geography and were purposively selected. The researcher was a participant. Phenomenology was employed as a research approach and data was collected over the course of one academic year using semi-structured interviews. The research findings, which are presented in a series of experiential descriptions and a play script, provide an insight into the lived experience of geography that each of the participants has and how this affects these individuals’ lifeworlds. The findings indicate that the teachers surveyed have a fused identity, whereby the teachers consider their subject-specific and generic primary pedagogy to be complementary facets that impact on their identity as teachers and not mutually exclusive. It is recommended that this concept of a fused identity is presented to both trainee and experienced teachers in order to facilitate reflection on individual primary teachers’ subject-identity with a view to informing teachers’ personal professional development and classroom practice. The outcomes of this research contribute to the literature available on teachers’ subject identity. The findings add to the body of existing knowledge in geography education and fill a specific gap in relation to research conducted with teachers of geography working in English primary schools.

EMIGRATION & immigration , *SOLIDARITY , *IMMIGRANTS , *PRACTICAL politics - Abstract
International migration and refugee scholars have made extensive use of the concept of solidarity in light of the recent arrival of migrants and refugees in Europe and elsewhere. They observe multi-dimensional solidarity practices and interpret solidarity from a variety of disciplinary and conceptual angles with different philosophical underpinnings. In this review article, I assume a geographical perspective to argue for a Marxian-Hegelian understanding of solidarity as a process of subject formation. I illustrate how solidarity relates to a politics of place that shapes migrant struggles in urban contexts and that promise to facilitate Indigenous reconciliation and decolonization in settler societies. 6. Sońka Ignacego Karpowicza w kontekście wybranych koncepcji feminizmu postmodernistycznego.

- Abstract
The article's interpretation of Sońka by Ignacy Karpowicz centres on the construction of the eponymous character. The author of the article analyzes the character's identity, drawing from the postmodern feminist critique. Especially useful is the concept of nomadism introduced by Rosi Braidotti. Another key idea is the proposal by Adriana Cavarero about the functions of relation and narration in building female identity. The author emphasizes the significance of the body and bodily experience in the creation of the feminine self. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GEOGRAPHY teachers , *GEOGRAPHY education in secondary schools , *PROFESSIONAL identity , *TEACHER recruitment , *TEACHER retention , *TEENAGERS , *SECONDARY education - Abstract
Geography teacher recruitment and retention is an important issue for the future of geography education. This Special Issue ofIRGEEtackles this issue head on by focusing on geography teachers’ narratives about their experiences of teaching geography, and asking why some geography teachers stay in the profession while others leave. This paper serves as an introduction to this Special Issue, outlining why adopting a narrative approach enables us to gain a deeper understanding of the experience of teaching geography, and why it is important to understand the experience of those teachers who stay in the profession. The theme that emerges from this collection of papers is the significance of the interplay between context and identity when seeking to understand geography teachers’ work, and in particular why subject identity matters. These themes are echoed in the other papers of this Special Issue, indicating that now there is sufficient evidence for geography education to take the issue of teacher subject identity seriously, and for further research to consider the implications for initial and continuing teacher education. HIGHER education , *SOCIOLOGY education , *BRITISH education system , *STUDENT attitudes , *COLLEGE student orientation , *PSYCHOLOGICAL typologies - Abstract
This article is a contribution to the sociology of an expanded and newly diversified UK higher education system. How differentiated is the student experience? How sharply is the system polarised? Drawing on interviews and questionnaires conducted in five sociology departments in a variety of pre-1992 and post-1992 universities, it examines students' views on 'what they learn' and their orientations to study. It explores differences in curriculum content and organisation and the extent to which student narratives and identities vary with differences in institutional context. A typology of student experiences and subject engagement is advanced that as well as capturing institutional differences also locates a range of student orientations - and worthwhile student experiences - in all five departments that suggests a somewhat greater commonality of experience and outcome across institutions than the extreme polarisation of institutional experiences and outcomes sometimes suggest. OUTCOME-based education ,TEACHING ,APARTHEID ,ETHICS - Abstract
The philosophy of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE), implemented in a new approach to teaching and learning in the South African National Curriculum Statement (NCS), was a response to the injustices of apartheid education. Teachers and learners were given the opportunity for personal empowerment, via the development of subject knowledge and skills, largely through radical changes to envisaged teaching practices. The responses of two practicing teachers to two questions concerning a course entitled, "Functions in the Curriculum and Beyond" were analysed with respect to whether or not their personal subject, and hence pedagogic, identities mirrored those envisaged in the National Curriculum Statement. These observations were informed partly by theoretical concepts from Bernstein (1996) and the principles of the South African National Curriculum Statement. Naidoo and Parker's (2005) analysis of the official versus personal subject identities of South African teachers provided a contextualised frame for our observations. Our analysis shows that the two teachers demonstrated a development of a prospective identity that has resonance with the kind of teacher envisaged by OBE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COMMUNICATION ,COLLEGE curriculum ,GENERATIONS ,SCHOLARS ,FIRST-born children - Abstract
This article presumes that the identity-forming process of communication science in German-speaking countries is better understood if this process is presented from a generational perspective. Taking into account that the identity of an academic discipline is defined by the people who are pursuing it, it is indirectly also influenced by the social situation and the experiences that these people were shaped by. Five generation types were distinguished by means of the criterion "degree of institutionalization of the Communication Science:" the ancestors, the founding fathers, the first borns, the new founders and the Young Turks. The study shows the influence of the generation structure on the definition of the subject and its position within the scientific sphere. Neither the founding fathers, who still were distanced from that new subject, nor the more recent founders were able to define the borders of the subject and to agree upon a common perspective. Only the first-borns and particularly the Young Turks -- a generation of scholars socialized by the subject itself and strongly resembling the upcoming generation of the subject's representatives -- advanced in that matter. A prediction is indeed hard to make as the internal subjects' generation structure is blurred due to reestablishments and enormous institutional extensions. However, the appointment policy cannot evade important criteria such as origin discipline or practice reference. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

© Serials Publications The article examines the topical problem of a qualitative change of a student in the process of obtaining higher education. Additionally, this paper discusses the formation of student’s personal subjective identity as determinants in the formation of future professional identity. Against this background have been formalized the psychological and pedagogical conditions, which directed to formation of subjective identity in the process of training and on the development of norms and values of their future profession. Moreover, we distinguished three components that determine the Maturity of subjective identity. These components related to professional motivation, activity in chosen profession, in the sense of professional adequacy. The authors of the article analyze the current foreign and domestic scientific literature on the problems of identity, subjectness and subjective identity. The analysis of approaches to the problem of the formation of the subjective identity in the learning process at the university shows that the subjectness is the main characteristic of the student’s individual, which as a result determines the identity of the profession, professional competence and quality of the active subject of activity. According to the purpose of our study, we found the effectiveness of psychological and pedagogical conditions of formation of bases of the subjective identity of the students. Consequently, the formation of bases of the subjective identity as a future proficient will be more successful if there are special psychological and pedagogical conditions. These conditions help the graduate be a competitive person, ready to effectively implement professional features and demonstrate personal qualities identical to the profession.

Lovrakov autobiografski diskurs posjeduje karakteristike otvorenoga znaka koji se, osim strukturalnim elementima i funkcijama, interpretativno poigrava i svim ostalim elementima književnoga komunikacijskoga lanca., The paper explores the construction of subject identity in Mato Lovrak’s autobiographical discourse, using the novel Pero Kvržica među ljudima [Pero Knobble among people] (2014) as an example. Constructed in an intertextual manner – as a metatext of sorts – via the mediation of a (autoreferrential) narrative on the origin and reception of the author’s most famous novel, Družba Pere Kvržice [Pero Knobble’s Gang], Lovrak’s autobiographical novel is analysed at the level of the object text (second-degree text), with Družba Pere Kvržice as its referent (first-degree text). The paper identifies strategies by which Lovrak’s narration brings the notion of the merging of the author and his work – in complete contrast to theories which (whether partially or completely) deny such a unity – to the level of a symbolic function, deepening the complex issue of the textual construction of subject identity within the autobiographical discourse, especially when its author is a fiction writer. Further, the paper explores the use of a pseudo-heterodiegetic narrator, the role of the referent text, relations within the chain of communication (author – text – reader) and between documentarism and fictionality. The metaphor of the “biography of a work of fiction” presents the basis of the author’s construction of “self” and functions as his primary element of identity which has an important influence on all major elements of the object text. The subject identity is construed in a documentary and fictional manner, while Lovrak’s autobiographical discourse possesses the qualities of a sign which, in addition to structural elements and functions, engages in a playful interpretation of all the other elements of the literary communication chain., Im Beitrag werden die Prozesse zur Bildung der Identität des Subjekts im autobiographischen Diskurs von Mato Lovrak am Beispiel seines Romans Pero Kvržica unter den Leuten (2014) erforscht.

Kleist, D. 2012. Methods for Elimination of Double Taxation under Double Tax Treaties – with Particular Reference to the Application of Double Tax Treaties in Sweden. Iustus Förlag AB. Uppsala 2012. 372 pp. ISBN 978-91-7678-816-5. The study deals with the methods for elimination of double taxation that are applied in double tax treaties. The first aim of the study is to systematise and analyse the methods for elimination of double taxation under double tax treaties in order to gain a better understanding of how they work. A number of issues relating to the application of these methods are analysed. Since double tax treaties are applied by tax authorities, courts, and taxpayers in a domestic law context, i.e. within the framework of the legal system of a particular state, the analysis focuses on the application in Sweden of the methods for elimination of double taxation under double tax treaties. The second aim of the study is to evaluate in a few selected situations the two main methods for elimination of double taxation recommended by the OECD, namely exemption with progression and ordinary credit, on the basis of whether tax neutrality is achieved. For the purpose of this study, tax neutrality is deemed to be achieved when the taxation of income relating to a cross border transaction corresponds to the tax that would have been levied in either the state of residence (i.e. capital export neutrality, “CEN”) or in the other contracting state (i.e. capital import neutrality, “CIN”), had the cross border element not been present. Furthermore, for the purpose of this study, tax neutrality is deemed to be achieved if the taxation of income relating to a cross border transaction is within the range set by CEN and CIN. The evaluation shows that ordinary credit stands a greater chance than exemption with progression of achieving an outcome which is consistent with the goal of tax neutrality in the situations selected for study.

- Abstract
SOSE teachers’ subject content knowledge and its influence on teachers’ professional identity is an issue raised by the complex nature of SOSE. The scope of an integrated humanities curriculum such as SOSE creates questions of subject expertise and pedagogical content knowledge for middle school teachers. For example, in Queensland, SOSE is taught in the middle school by specialist secondary teachers of history or geography and generalist teachers working in middle schools. The object of this paper is to review the literature on the teaching of SOSE and identify the influence of subject knowledge on SOSE teachers’ identity. Analysis of the literature reveals that SOSE teachers’ professionalism and identity may be based on flexible notions of professionalism rather than subject specialisation.
