Stunting is a serious public health problem, especially among under-fives, which can cause serious short- and long-term impacts. Efforts to tackle stunting in Indonesia involve national strategies and development priorities. Therefore, this study aims to compare the performance of machine learning regression algorithms in predicting stunting prevalence in Indonesia. The data collected is secondary data. The data collection was done carefully, taking explicit details regarding the source, scope, extent, and analysis of the dataset, and using a careful sampling methodology. The model evaluation results show that the Random Forest Regression algorithm has the best performance, with a success rate of 90.537%. The application of this model to the new dataset shows that East Nusa Tenggara province has the highest percentage of stunting at 31.85%, while Bali has the lowest percentage at 12.07%. Visualization of the dashboard using Tableau provides a clear picture of the distribution of stunting in Indonesia. In conclusion, this research contributes to the development of science, especially in the field of machine learning and public health, and provides policy recommendations for tackling stunting in Indonesia.

The paper explores the conditions characterising stunting prevalence in food secure Rusitu Valley in Chimanimani, Zimbabwe. Despite various studies undertaken on stunting in food insecure regions of Africa and Asia, little has been theorised on its determinants in the food secure areas of Chimanimani in Zimbabwe. A mixed-methods approach was used in data collection. Descriptive statistics and thematic content analysis were used on quantitative and qualitative data, respectively. Informed by the social ecological model, findings revealed that despite food security in the study area, nutrition insecurity existed. During 2014-2019, stunting among under five years was shown to be most prevalent in Ward 21b with a total of 272 patients and Ward 21a (208 patients), followed by Ward 22 (125), Ward 23 (113), Ward 16 (97), and the least in Ward 13 (62). In spite of their knowledge on stunting, 97% of the caregivers have not exclusively breastfed before complementary feeds, while only 3% purportedly practised it. Of the respondents, 40% revealed their children have once suffered from diarrhoea in the past 3 months, while 60% stated their children did not have diarrhoea in the last 3 months. While knowledge on infant and young child feeding are lacking at individual caregiver level andat interpersonal, community and organisational level, institutional constraints, disease prevalence, socio-economic barriers and maternal nutrition deficiency contribute to stunting prevalence. These exacerbate challenges in accessing various forms of capital assets. The study recommends strengthening collaborative health promotion activities, capacity building of organisations and community health structures on nutrition monitoring, and food security in households in need. Objective: To determine undernutrition prevalence in 0-59-month-old children and its determinants during the period 2000-2015 in sub-Saharan Africa.Design: Ecological study of time series prevalence of undernutrition in sub-Saharan Africa assessed from 2000 to 2015.Setting: Underweight and stunting prevalence from the World Bank database (2000-2015) were analysed. Mixed models were used to estimate prevalence of underweight and stunting. Country-specific undernutrition prevalence variation was estimated and region comparisons were performed. A meta-regression model considering health and socio-economic characteristics at country level was used to explore and estimate the contribution of different undernutrition determinants.Participants: Countries of sub-Saharan Africa.Results: During 2000-2015, underweight prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa was heterogeneous, ranging between 7 and 40 %. On the other hand, stunting prevalence ranged between 20 and 60 %. In general, higher rates of underweight and stunting were estimated in Niger (40 %) and Burundi (58 %), respectively; while lowest rates of underweight and stunting were estimated in Swaziland (7 %) and Gabon (21 %). About 1 % undernutrition prevalence reduction per year was estimated across sub-Saharan Africa, which was not statistically significant for all countries. Health and socio-economic determinants were identified as main determinants of underweight and stunting prevalence variability in sub-Saharan Africa.Conclusions: Undernutrition represents a major public health threat in sub-Saharan Africa and its prevalence reduction during the period 2000-2015 was inconsistent. Improving water accessibility and number of medical doctors along with reducing HIV prevalence and poverty could significantly reduce undernutrition prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa. As a key indicator of childhood malnutrition, few studies have focused on stunting in relation to various socio-economic factors in which disadvantaged groups face in China. We conducted a community-based cross-sectional study incorporating forty-two rural counties in seven western provinces of China in 2011. In total, 5196 children aged 6-23 months were included. We used Poisson regression to examine risk factors for inadequate minimum dietary diversity (MDD) and stunting status, respectively. Overall, the proportion of children not meeting MDD was 44·5%. Children aged 6-11 months (adjusted risk ratio (ARR)=1·39; 95% CI 1·31, 1·49), with two siblings (ARR=1·09; 95% CI 1·02, 1·17), delivered at home (ARR=1·30; 95% CI 1·20, 1·41), within Yi (ARR=1·15; 95% CI 1·04, 1·28) or Uighur groups (ARR=1·52; 95% CI 1·36, 1·71), with an illiterate caregiver (ARR=2·12; 95% CI 1·52, 2·96), receiving lowest income (ARR=1·32; 95% CI 1·17, 1·50), and with breast-feeding in the last day (ARR=1·55; 95% CI 1·44, 1·66) were more likely to have inadequate MDD. Moreover, inadequate MDD was positively associated with stunting (ARR=1·15; 95% CI 1·01, 1·31). Other determinants for stunting were age, sex, place of delivery, minority group and income. The stunting prevalence and proportion of inadequate MDD remained high in Western China; to reduce stunting rates of ethnic minorities, further efforts addressing appropriate dietary feeding practices are needed, especially within these groups.
