This study investigates the removal of major impurities, namely Fe, Al, Zn, and Mn, in a solution produced by sulfuric acid leaching of mixed hydroxide precipitate from the Ni and Co via solvent extraction using di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA). The results of extraction experiments showed that the extracted Ni, Co, Fe, Al, Zn, Mn, and Mg increased as the equilibrium pH, D2EHPA concentration, and O/A ratio increased. The optimum extraction condition was achieved at a pH of 3.5, a 20% (v/v) D2EHPA concentration, and an O/A ratio of 1, with a complete (>99.9%) extraction of Al, Fe, Zn, and 97.33% Mn with co-extracted Ni and Co of 22.32% and 29.13%, respectively, in a single extraction stage. Complete Mn removal can be achieved in two extraction stages. Co-extracted Ni and Co can be scrubbed out using a mild sulfuric acid solution at a pH of 1.2 with only less than 2% of the Al, Fe, Zn, and Mn co-scrubbed. McCabe-Thiele diagrams of the scrubbing processes were constructed, and the results showed that Ni and Co can be scrubbed out using a mild acidic solution at a pH of 1.2, O/A ratio of 1, and temperature of 40°C for 10 min of mixing. Zn and Mn can be stripped completely using 0.5 M sulfuric acid solution at an O/A of 1 and temperature of 40°C for 10 min of mixing, while Fe and Al remained unstripped. The distribution equilibria of Am(III) and Cm(III) between the organic phase of bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)dithiophosphonic acid (purified Cyanex301, HA) in xylene and aqueous solutions containing varying concentrations of formic acid or glycolic acid have been investigated aiming at the separation of the two actinides from each other after the groups separation of Am(III)/Cm(III) from Ln(III) ions. The apparent extraction constants for Am(III) and Cm(III) in the Cyanex301-xylene system are determined to be −8.84 and −9.37, respectively, at 0.01 M ionic strength. The specific ion interaction method (SIT) is used to obtain the stability constants of Am(III) and Cm(III) with nitrate and glycolate for calculating the speciation of the ions in extraction at 25°C and I = 0.01 M. The separation of Cm(III) from Am(III) loaded in 0.5 M HA in xylene can be considerably improved by emplying 0.01 to 0.05 M formic acid or glycolic acid as selective stripping reagents favoring complexation with Cm(III). Specifically, with 0.01 M formic acid or glycolic acid in the aqueous phase, the separation factor (SF) for Am(III) over Cm(III) is improved from 3.61 to 5.87 and 5.26, respectively. Hence, both separations of An(III) from Ln(III) and then Am(III) from Cm(III) are achieved by a selective extraction process at first and then a selective stripping process in one simple efficient system using purified Cyanex301 as extractant in organic phase and carboxylic acids as stripping chelates in aqueous. Cereal grain crops are used as main food and raw feed materials all over the world. Among cereal crops, wheat occupies a leading place as the most valuable crop. Harvesting is the most energy-intensive stage in wheat cultivation. Therefore, improving technologies and tools to reduce energy costs in this process is an urgent task. A new stripping and threshing unit for harvesting cereal crops has been developed, allowing the harvesting of grain at both full maturity and in the early stages of maturity, when the grain has an increased content of protein and amino acids and is a valuable raw feed material. The new unit consists of a stripping and threshing unit. The stripping unit consists of a stripping drum and stripping combs. The threshing unit contains replaceable decks that collide with the grain, separating it from the ear; an auger for transporting the heap to the unloading device; and a blade beater with a cut-off shield. Wheat grain in the early stages of maturity has a strong connection with the ear, as a result of which harvesting such grain can be energy-intensive and impractical. In this regard, the purpose of this research was to study the dynamics of changes in the energy intensity of the wheat grain harvesting process during ripening and to compare the energy intensity of the harvesting process with the new unit with the energy intensity of a combine harvester. The methodology is based on measuring torque on the shaft of the stripping and threshing unit. The results show that the power required for stripping by the new unit is reduced from 8–10 kW to 2–4 kW, which is 2.5–4 times lower. The difference in power values between harvesting at the hard wax ripeness stage and full ripeness is only 1–1.5 kW, indicating the feasibility of harvesting grain at this stage. Objective: By incorporating an endovascular component into Great Saphenous Vein stripping, EndoVenous-assisted Invaginated Stripping (EVIS) aims to make the procedure minimally invasive. A study was conducted to investigate the surgical intervention. Methods: Sketches and videos were used to illustrate the technical aspects of EVIS. A prospective cohort study included 20 patients with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Results: EVIS is performed as a day-surgery. Technical success was 100%, and no complications were recorded. The mean operative time was 45 minutes, intraoperative pain score was 4.8, post-operative pain was 2.5, 1.8, 1.2, 0.5 at 48 hours, 1, 4, and 12 weeks, respectively. The mean blood loss was 15 mL, and the mean length of the GSV strapped was 19 cm. The follow-up duplex showed a reduction in the diameter of the residual GSV stump. In this study, shot peening (SP), quenching and tempering (QT) heat treatment, baking heat treatment and Cr-plating technologies were used to enhance the hardness, tribological properties and corrosion resistance of AISI 4340M steel. The purpose of this study is to develop repair process technology for an overhaul of landing gear applied to the MRO process and establish a quality assurance system. The effects of SP, QT heat treatment, Cr-plating, stripping after Cr-plating and Cr-plating after stripping and re-SP on the tribological properties and corrosion resistance of AISI 4340M steel were investigated, and the obtained results were compared with the base AISI 4340M steel. One of the reasons for stripping after Cr-plating is to find out how many times stripping can be done after Cr-plating. Moreover, it is important to investigate the effect of re-SP after Cr-plating on the tribological properties and corrosion resistance. The tribological properties of the specimens were investigated using a ball-on-disk tribometer at room temperature against AISI 52100 steel for 60 min under dry conditions. The corrosion resistance was investigated using a potentiodynamic polarization test in NaCl 3.5% solution. The results showed that the application of SP, QT heat treatment, Cr-plating, stripping after Cr-plating and Cr-plating after stripping and re-SP had a significant effect on the tribological properties and corrosion resistance of AISI 4340M steel. The effects of SP and Cr-plating post-treatment technologies on the wear and corrosion enhancement and mechanisms were discussed based on the microstructural and surface morphology of worn and corroded surfaces. Critical minerals (CMs) are pivotal in modern industries, such as telecommunications, defense, medicine, and aerospace, contributing significantly to regional and global economic growth. However, the reliance on external sources for 26 out of 50 identified CMs raises concerns about supply chain vulnerabilities. To address this, the research focused on developing a hydrometallurgical process for extracting cobalt, manganese, and nickel from acid mine drainage (AMD) treatment by-products, emphasizing the need to diversify CM supply chains within the United States (US). A solution composed of an REE solvent extraction raffinate loaded with cobalt, manganese, nickel, and various impurity metals was utilized as a feedstock in this study. The developed hydrometallurgical process involved initial sodium hydroxide precipitation to remove impurities like aluminum and iron from an SX raffinate solution generated during the extraction of rare earth elements (REEs). Precipitation stages were performed in a pH region ranging from 2 to 12 to identify the optimum pH values, achieving a tradeoff between recovery and impurity removal. A subsequent precipitation process at pH 5–10 yielded a product rich in CMs, such as manganese, cobalt, and nickel. Further separation steps involved nitric acid washing, resulting in a Mn product with a purity of 47.9% by weight and a solution with extractable concentrations of cobalt and nickel. Stagewise precipitation with sodium sulfide subsequently produced three solid products: cobalt and nickel product at pH 1–5, manganese product at pH 5–10, and magnesium at pH 10–12. The study also explored other separation approaches, including solvent extraction, to enhance the separation of nickel from cobalt. Overall, the developed hydrometallurgical process generated the following products with varying degrees of purities: cobalt (9.92 wt.%), nickel (14 wt.%), manganese (47.9 wt.%), and magnesium (27.49 wt.%). This research aimed to contribute to the sustainable extraction of CMs from secondary sources, reducing the US' reliance on imports and promoting a more resilient supply chain for these crucial elements. A minor movement of strippers and sex workers are unionising as the Sex Workers' Union (SWU) branch of the Bakers Food & Allied Workers Union. SWU have produced a counter hegemonic perspective on law and society in the process of class struggle. This perspective demystifies the view that strippers and sex workers are free workers and enterprising subjects, or unfree vulnerable victims in need of state protection. SWU's counter hegemonic perspective inverts this common-sense assumption and posits that strippers and sex workers are unfree workers and free sexual subjects. This demystification is evident in SWU's 'feminist law work', which demands decommodification and decriminalisation for all sex workers by working within, and against, official law. In conclusion, I argue that there are at least three reasons why other feminists should support SWU by ceasing eradication of sex work via criminalisation and closure campaigns. This would open space for a politics of solidarity between sex workers and other feminists, centred on the conditions within which sex workers' labour is commodified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

N2O measurements by liquid sensors in aerated tanks are an input to gas-liquid mass-transfer models for the prediction of N2O off-gas emissions. The prediction of N2O emissions from Water Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRFs) was evaluated by three different mass-transfer models using Benchmark Simulation Model 1 (BSM1) as a reference model. Inappropriate selection of mass-transfer model may result in miscalculation of carbon footprints based on soluble N2O online measurements. The film theory considers a constant mass-transfer expression, while more complex models suggest that emissions are affected by the aeration type, efficiency, and tank design characteristics. The differences among model predictions were 10–16% at dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration of 0.6 g/m3, when biological N2O production was the highest, while the flux of N2O was 20.0–24 kg N2O-N/d. At lower DO, the nitrification rate was low, while at DO higher than 2 g/m3, the N2O production was reduced leading to higher rates of complete nitrification and a flux of 5 kg N2O-N/d. The differences increased to 14–26% in deeper tanks, due to the pressure assumed in the tanks. The predicted emissions are also affected by the aeration efficiency when KLaN2O depends on the airflow instead of the KLaO2. Increasing the nitrogen loading rate under DO concentration of 0.50–0.65 g/m3 increased the differences in predictions by 10–20% in both alpha 0.6 and 1.2. A sensitivity analysis indicated that the selection of different mass-transfer models did not affect the selection of biochemical parameters for N2O model calibration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Enamel interproximal reduction (IPR), also known as stripping, is an orthodontic procedure used by many clinicians, especially in non-extraction cases. It aims to reduce the mesiodistal diameter of teeth by removing interproximal enamel. This therapeutic option allows to obtain space in the dental arch to achieve tooth alignment, in case of mild or moderate crowding, and to preserve the papilla avoiding the onset of black triangles. IPR is an irreversible procedure, and it requires an accurate case examination to avoid damage, such as demineralization of the enamel or periodontal complications, that can compromise both aesthetics and oral health. When performing IPR, orthodontists can change the contact point between the teeth and move it closer to the alveolar crest, thus improving esthetics by reducing the black triangles. However, there is also a risk for worsening periodontal health due to root proximity although, according to the literature, periodontal indices, such as clinical attachment loss (CAL) and bleeding on probing (BOP), seem to be not significantly affected by IPR. Complex extraction, which has the characteristics of high efficiency and selectivity of chemicals, has unique advantages in dye wastewater treatment. In the paper, a green closed‐loop dye wastewater treatment route for dyeing industry is re‐evaluated by studying the complex extraction and stripping of Telon yellow 4B, and dyeing test of regenerated dye. FT‐IR characteristic peaks of the initial organic phase and the regenerated organic phase are consistent, and the dye can be migrated from the loaded organic phase to the aqueous phase after stripping. The concentration of dye in the aqueous phase and extraction conditions have a significant effect on extraction rate, especially the aqueous‐organic phase ratio and the pH value of the aqueous phase. Meanwhile, the stripping conditions have a marked impact on stripping rate, among which NaOH dosage is an important factor. The regenerated dye solution and the freshly prepared dye solution at same concentration have the same color shade and K/S value, and the color fastness of dyed fabrics is all above Grade 4. High extraction rate, high stripping rate, excellent reusability of regenerated organic phase, and the dyeing performance of the regenerated dye prove that complex extraction is a green dye wastewater treatment process with the practical feasibility. Chemical stripping adversely affects the quality of cotton fabric due to prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals. High temperatures also affect the surface and tearing characteristics of recycled cotton. Microwave-assisted stripping is a viable approach to addressing these problems, requiring less time, energy, and chemical consumption. Furthermore, utilizing a microwave-absorbing molecule that assisted the heat generation, multiple treatment methods were applied to remove the dye reactive turquoise CLB from cotton fabric. In the reductive process, pretreatment with sodium citrate as a microwave absorber showed 94.8% stripping efficiency, while in the meta-treatment, stripping efficiency was 96.2%. In the conventional stripping procedure, 75.7% stripping efficiency was observed, much lower than microwave absorber stripping with an absorber. Moreover, FTIR analysis of treated and untreated fabrics confirmed the removal of Reactive Turquoise CLB from the cellulosic structure. The quality assurance parameters, weight loss, and tearing strength assure the performance of developed methods by showing higher tearing strength and negligible weight loss compared to conventional methods. In order to recover Ni from acid leaching solution of waste oil refining catalyst, HBL110 was used as extractant to extract nickel directly and selectively. The saponification rate of extractant, extractant concentration and extraction equilibrium time were optimized, the extraction and de extraction stages were confirmed, and the multi-stage countercurrent series extraction simulation test and the continuous running of the on-line process were carried out. The results show that under the conditions of saponification rate of 40%, HBL110 concentration of 25% and extraction time of 10 min, the mass concentration of nickel in the raffinate is less than 30 mg/L, the extraction efficiency of nickel is more than 98%, and the extraction rate of Al and Fe is less than 3%. The three stage countercurrent extraction of nickel supported organic phase with 75 g/L sulfuric acid can achieve 100% back extraction of nickel supported organic phase. The on-line extraction process of the acid leaching solution of the waste catalyst is run continuously for 5 days, the nickel concentration in the raffinate is stable at 5 mg/L, and the extraction efficiency of nickel can reach 99%. The concentration of nickel in the back extraction solution is stable at 8 g/L, and the back extraction rate of nickel is 100%. The organic phase can be effectively recycled. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recycling the valuable metals found in spent permanent magnets (REPMs) poses a significant global challenge for the future. This study examines the efficiency of back extraction of rare earth elements (REEs) by oxalic acid solution from di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) in recycling REPMs. To evaluate the efficiency of this process, several experiments were carried out using designed BOX-Behnken methodology to investigate the effects of various operational and chemical parameters, including stripping solution to loaded organic phase volume ratio (in the range of 1.0–2.0), oxalic acid concentration (ranging from 0.25 to 0.75 M), the stirring rate (ranged between 150 and 350 rpm), and stripping time (ranging from 15 to 45 min) on the REEs recovery and the purity of final production. Analysis of variance was applied to rigorously examine the results statistically. The results showed that more than 85 % of light and 80 % of heavy REEs can be recovered under optimal conditions. Moreover, the final product contained 43.5 % REEs and approximately 0.1 % iron. The stripping experiment using phosphoric acid as the reagent demonstrated ∼57 % light and ∼4 % heavy REEs recovery. Additionally, the recyclability of the organic phase showed its effective reuse for up to four cycles. This study underscores significant progress in the selective recovery of rare earth elements through a relatively straightforward process consuming mild reagents.

We present evidence for an overlap in the discourse functions of Spanish cómo que XP ‘how thatcomplementizer’ and French comment ça ∅/XP ‘how thatdemonstrative’ interrogatives. We argue for three shared discourse functions: clarification requests, mirative questions, and expressions of disagreement. We show that these functions are cued by an interplay of morpho-syntactic and contextual factors. At the morpho-syntactic level, whether grammatical person shifts (is indirectly cited) compared to the previous turn and whether additional linguistic material (the ‘remnant’) is present after ‘how that’ were found to be important predictors of discourse function. At the contextual level, whether and how the speaker continues her turn after the interrogative is our most significant predictor. We quantify the degree to which these and other cues allow for a prediction of the discourse functions and find that the resulting model predicts more clarification request uses and fewer mirative and disagreement uses than empirically attested. This indicates that some cues for these two readings are missing from our model. We propose that prosody might be one of them.

Background. One of the formidable complications of varicose veins of the lower extremities is thrombophlebitis. The risk of developing venous thromboembolic complications remains high even when taking anticoagulants. Most authors do not even consider surgical elimination of the manifestations of acute superficial thrombophlebitis. The aim. To evaluate the effectiveness of minimally invasive surgical treatment of acute tributary varicose veins of the lower extremities. Materials and methods. The surgical treatment of 78 patients with acute varicothrombophlebitis of the tributaries of the great saphenous vein was analyzed. Depending on the treatment performed, patients were divided into two groups: group I including 56 (71.8%) patients who underwent inpatient surgery for thrombotic lesions of varicose veins of the tributaries of the great saphenous vein; group II including 22 (28.2%) patients who received conservative outpatient treatment. Results. The choice of the volume of surgical intervention in patients of group I depended on the condition of thegreat saphenous vein. In the absence of thrombotic and varicose veins in 29 (51.8%) patients, the latter was preserved. With varicose changes in the great saphenous vein, 16 (28.6%) patients underwent radiofrequency ablation after ligationof the thrombosed tributary duct and miniphlebectomy or phlebocentesis with foam-form sclerotherapy. In 11 (19.6%) cases of thrombotic lesions of the great saphenous vein, crossectomy, long/short stripping or phlebocentesis with stem sclerotherapy after ligation of its tributaries and isolation of the latter distal to the thrombotic occlusion was performed. The surgical intervention was supplemented with miniphlebectomy of other varicose veins and ligation of failed perforator veins. In patients of group II, treatment was prescribed similarly to the treatment of deep vein thrombosis. Surgical treatment of patients in group I effectively prevented venous thromboembolic complications and reduced the manifestations of chronic venous insufficiency in 72.9% of cases. Conclusions. Minimally invasive surgical intervention for acute thrombophlebitis of the tributaries of the great saphenous vein allows, on an outpatient basis or in a one-day hospital, to eliminate thrombotic lesions of varicose super-ficial veins and prevent venous thromboembolic complications, reduce or eliminate manifestations of chronic venous insufficiency, prevent recurrence of thrombosis, and reduce the patient’s disability.

Objective: To analyze the results of combined minimally invasive phlebectomy (CMIP) with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Methods: The study analyzed the treatment results of 26 patients (11 men, 15 women, average age of 49.3±4.6 years) with CVI and KOA who underwent CMIP with PRP therapy. The patients' average body mass index (BMI) was 28.9±2.1 kg/m². It was observed that patients with CVI exhibited different grades of severity according to the Clinical-Etiological-Anatomical-Pathophysiological (CEAP) classification. Out of 26 patients, 7 (27%) were classified as CEAP class 2, 15 (58%) as class 3, and 4 (15%) as class 4. Isolated insufficiency of the great saphenous vein (GSV) and its tributaries was noted in 9 (35%) patients and the small saphenous vein (SSV) – in 2 (8%) patients. Of the 26 patients, 15 (58%) had combined insufficient GSV and SSV trunks and tributaries. All patients presented with bilateral saphenous vein insufficiency, predominantly on the left side in 19 (73%) cases and on the right side in 7 (27%) cases. Of 26 patients, 17 (65%) had insufficient tibial perforators. According to the Kellgren JH & Lawrence JS classification of osteoarthritis (OA), 4 (15%) of the patients had grade I KOA, 14 (54%) had grade II, and 8 (31%) had grade III. Phlebological status was assessed visually and with duplex scanning (DS) of the venous system in the lower extremities. The knee joints were evaluated using the WOMAC Osteoarthritis Index. Results: The median total index on the WOMAC scale before treatment was 65.5 (61.0-74.0) points, including pain index – 14.0 (13.0-16.0) points, knee joint stiffness – 6.0 (5.0-6.0) points and joint functioning – 47.0 (45.0-49.0) points. All patients underwent CMIP as the first stage, followed by four sessions of PRP therapy, one per week as the second stage. The average duration of surgical procedures was 115.5±35.5 minutes, and patients stayed an average of 2.8±0.4 days in the hospital. There were no significant complications in any case. After the treatment, there was a substantial decrease in pain and stiffness and an improvement in knee joint function. Therapy was ineffective in 4 (15%) cases. The effectiveness of PRP therapy is lower when certain factors are present. These factors include an advanced stage of KOA with a longer duration of the degenerative process in the joint, chronic use of painkillers, and the combined insufficiency of the GSV and SSV trunks. There is a direct correlation between these factors and the low effectiveness of platelet-rich autologous plasma. Conclusion: In patients with CVI and KOA, performing CMIP and PRP therapy can significantly decrease pain and improve daily knee joint function.

Further separation steps involved nitric acid washing, resulting in a Mn product with a purity of 47.9% by weight and a solution with extractable concentrations of cobalt and nickel. Stagewise precipitation with sodium sulfide subsequently produced three solid products: cobalt and nickel product at pH 1–5, manganese product at pH 5–10, and magnesium at pH 10–12. The study also explored other separation approaches, including solvent extraction, to enhance the separation of nickel from cobalt. Overall, the developed hydrometallurgical process generated the following products with varying degrees of purities: cobalt (9.92 wt.%), nickel (14 wt.%), manganese (47.9 wt.%), and magnesium (27.49 wt.%). This research aimed to contribute to the sustainable extraction of CMs from secondary sources, reducing the US’ reliance on imports and promoting a more resilient supply chain for these crucial elements.

The removal of harmful arsenic(V) from aqueous solutions using Cyanex 923 (solvation extractant) was investigated using various experimental variables: equilibration time, the acidity of the aqueous phase, temperature, extractant and arsenic concentrations, and O/A ratio. Cyanex 923 extracted As(V) (and sulfuric acid) from acidic solutions; however, it could not be used to remove the metal from slightly acid or neutral solutions. The extraction of arsenic is exothermic and responded to the formation of H3AsO4·nL species in the organic phase (L represents the extractant, and the stoichiometric factor, n = 1 or 2, depends on the acidity of the aqueous phase). Extraction isotherms are derived from the experimental results. Both arsenic and sulfuric acid loaded onto the organic phase can be stripped with water, and stripping isotherms are also derived from the experimental results. The selectivity of the system against the presence of other metals (Cu(II), Ni(II), Bi(III), and Sb(III)) is investigated, and the ability of Cyanex 923 to extract As(V) and sulfuric acid compared to the use of other P=O-based solvation reagents, such dibutyl butylphosphonate (DBBP) and tri-butyl phosphate (TBP), is also investigated. Objectives: To comparatively assess 3 interproximal reduction (IPR) methods used in clear aligner treatment with regard to accuracy, and patient perception of discomfort and anxiety. Materials and methods: A total of 42 patients, treated with the Invisalign® system, were included in this prospective trial and received one of the following IPR methods: hand-operated abrasive strips (group 1; 14 patients, 150 teeth), motor-driven 3/4 oscillating segmental discs (group 2; 14 patients, 134 teeth), or motor-driven abrasive strips (group 3; 14 patients, 133 teeth). Accuracy was evaluated using the difference between planned and executed IPR. Anxiety and discomfort levels experienced by the patients were evaluated using a questionnaire of 17 questions. Results: The accuracy of IPR was high in groups 2 and 3; however, it was low in group 1 with the executed IPR significantly less than the planned amount. On quadrant-level, executed IPR was significantly less in the upper left quadrant in group 1, and significantly more in the upper right quadrant in group 2. The difference between planned IPR and executed IPR was significant for teeth 11, 21, 32, 33, and 43 in group 1, indicating deficiency. The average difference between planned IPR and executed IPR was 0.08 mm for group 1, 0.09 mm for group 2, and 0.1 mm for group 3. Anxiety and discomfort levels did not differ between the methods, but a negative correlation was observed between age and discomfort and anxiety levels. Conclusions: The overall accuracy of the 2 motor-driven IPR methods was found to be better than the hand-operated system. Maxillary central incisors and mandibular canines were more prone to IPR deficiency when hand-operated abrasive strips were utilized. Patients were similarly comfortable with all 3 methods, and discomfort and anxiety levels decreased with age. Clinical relevance: Motor-driven methods have proven to be more effective when compared to the hand-operated ones by means of precision, speed, and patient comfort. Di-butyl phosphoric acid (HDBP) is one of the major hydrolytic and radiolytic degradation product of tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) employed for the extraction of U(VI) and Pu (IV) from the spent nuclear fuel dissolver solution. The presence of HDBP in the solvent phase limits the recovery of actinides during stripping. In view of this, the extraction and stripping behavior of uranyl nitrate in 1.1 M TBP in n-dodecane (n-DD) was studied in presence of di-butyl phosphate (HDBP). The distribution ratio (D) of uranium (VI) in HDBP/n-DD was negligible and the D value increased gradually with an increase in HDBP content in the organic phase. An alternate method was developed for estimation of HDBP in TBP/n-DD system based on uranium metal retention in organic phase. Based on the results it was found that 1 M HDBP in 1.1 M TBP/n-DD retained about 0.63 M of uranium (VI) in the organic phase during stripping. The results were further validated using irradiated solvent. FT-IR spectroscopic investigation also revealed the retention of U(VI) in 1.1 M TBP/n-DD containing HDBP even after several stripping with 0.01 M HNO3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The need to extract permanent teeth for the correction of dento-maxillary anomalies remains even today a controversy in orthodontic therapy. The purpose of this study was to assess the orthodontist's point of view on the extraction and non-extraction methods used in orthodontic treatments, regarding clinical experience. Material and methods: A de novo conceived questionnaire was elaborated by means of Google Forms and it comprised 22 questions regarding gender, age, different proprieties and aspects of both extraction and nonextraction methods and the percentage of treated patients who developed an increase in dental sensitivity and caries activity following the therapeutic stripping procedure. Results: 204 orthodontists answered the questionnaire. The respondents chose dental stripping (IPR-interproximal reduction) as the most used non-extraction method in their orthodontic practice with 34,3%, followed by over-expansion and dental stripping 24%. The probability that females will try to avoid dental extractions is 1.888 times higher compared to males. The association is statistically significant (p-value 0.0336). 70,1% of clinicians state that they use dental stripping as a non-extraction method to gain space even when there is NO Bolton discrepancy. In Class III cases, for reducing crowding and correcting the dental relations, 65.2% of doctors opt for dental stripping, while 34.8% do not avoid the extraction of a lower incisor. Conclusions: Among the non-extraction methods for creating space, the most used by the surveyed orthodontists was dental stripping IPR. The use of heterogeneous Fenton process combined with biological and physical treatment of sanitary landfill leachate has been evaluated. Leachate used in this study was collected from the drainage system of a landfill in Borg El-Arab city – Egypt. As a pre-treatment step, the collected leachate was subjected to ammonia stripping at pH 10.0 for 6 h to reduce the ammonia toxicity for the subsequent biological treatment steps. In this step, over 80% of the ammonia content of the leachate could be removed. Then, the ammonia-stripped leachate was subjected to heterogeneous Fenton process or to aerobic biological treatment. At its optimum operating conditions namely; 37.18 g/L H2O2, 5 g/L catalyst and a reaction time of 4 h, the use of heterogeneous Fenton process achieved COD removal up to 73%. Corresponding COD removal obtained after biological treatment was 68%. To select the best sequence of the treatment steps, the ammonia-stripped sanitary landfill leachate was subjected to two treatment trains. The first one was biological treatment followed by heterogeneous Fenton process; while, the second was heterogeneous Fenton process followed by biological treatment. The highest reductions of the organic compounds and ammonia were achieved after using biological treatment followed by the heterogeneous Fenton process. The use of this treatment configuration achieved total COD, BOD and NH4-N removals of 88%, 84% and 96% respectively. Research was carried out to investigate the use of tributylphosphate (TBP) and enhanced β-diketones for extracting copper from covellite ore leach liquor. The effect of some parameters such as contact time, temperature, phase ratio, equilibrium pH, and extractant concentration on the extent of copper extraction was examined. For the following conditions: temperature 27 ± 2°C, phase ratio 1:1, extraction efficiency of 95.30% total copper was achieved using a mixture of 0.25 mol/L enhanced β-diketones + 0.10 mol/L TBP in kerosene within 15 minutes at pH of 7.8. Furthermore, the stripping of approximately 97.3% of pure copper from the loaded organic phase was successfully attained at optimal conditions. Agents for uranium stripping from a 30% solution of TBP in decane, loaded with 110–116 g/L uranium, were studied. The uranyl nitrate solubility in ammonium acetate and formate solutions was studied. The uranium distribution ratio as a function of the concentrations of ammonium acetate and formate was determined. Comparative trials of the suggested stripping agents were performed. Environmental safety is of paramount importance for human well‐being, imposing significant demands for affordable, rapid, portable, and robust analytical tools for real‐time and on‐site water monitoring. In this context, we have developed an analytical method to efficiently detect heavy metal ions, particularly Pb2+ ions, in water samples. This method employs a stepwise‐prepared electrode comprised of a thin film of poly(methyl orange) (pMO) electrochemically deposited onto reduced graphene oxide (erGO), which is in turn coated on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The resulting pMO/erGO/GCE electrode was characterized using Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electrochemical techniques. Square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) was subsequently employed to detect the target ions. Importantly, the pMO/erGO/GCE electrode exhibits excellent analytical performance, featuring a broad linear concentration range spanning from 14 to 595 parts per billion (ppb), a sensitivity of 5.60 μA ppb−1 cm−2, and a theoretical calculated value of the detection limit of 0.82 ppb. The effectiveness of this sensor was validated through successful testing of aqueous samples from dissolved ores containing both lead(II) and cadmium(II) cations, as determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The effects of short and long-term thermo-oxidative aging on stripping resistance, rut depth, stiffness modulus, fracture and fatigue resistances of asphalt concretes have been assessed. A modified RILEM thermo-oxidative aging procedure on loose asphalt mixtures has been used to evaluate the gradual evolution of these properties with the aging duration. Two short-term aging durations (4 and 8 hours at 135 ∘ C) and three long-term thermo-oxidative aging durations (3, 6 and 9 days at 85 ∘ C) and a reference mixture (0 day aging) have been considered to this end. The impact of long-term thermo-oxidative aging on the chemo-rheological properties of recovered asphalt binders have been investigated. At the binder scale, the results show an increase in the Fraass temperature, the softening point, the shear modulus | G ∗ | , the aging index (AI= I S 0 + I C 0 ) and a decrease in the penetration grade with the aging duration. Some correlations between the viscoelastic transition parameters ( T V E T , G V E T and ω V E T ) of the recovered asphalt binders and the aging index have been established. At the mixture scale, the results show that the stiffness modulus ( | E ∗ | ) increases with the aging duration, while the index of fracture resistance (IFR), the stripping resistance ( C W / C D ), the rut depth (P) and the fatigue deformation ( ε 6 ) decrease with the aging duration. Due to its potential use in the production of new functional resins, bio-plastics, food additives, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals, muconic acid (MA), a high value-added bio-product with reactive dicarboxylic groups and conjugated double bonds, has attracted growing interest. Adipic acid, terephthalic acid, and trimellitic acid are examples of bulk compounds that can be produced using MA that are of high commercial importance. The development of biotechnological approaches for MA production has advanced greatly recently. The current analysis offers a thorough and organized summary of recent developments and difficulties in the extraction of MA. The processing and extraction of critical metals from black mass is important to battery recycling. Separation and recovery of critical metals (Co, Ni, Li, and Mn) from other metal impurities must yield purified metal salts, while avoiding substantial losses of critical metals. Solvent extraction in batch experiments were conducted using mixed metal sulphates obtained from the leach liquor obtained from spent and shredded lithium-ion batteries. Selective extraction of Mn2+, Fe3+, Al3+ and Cu2+ from simulated and real leached mixed metals solution was carried out using di-2-ethylhexylphophoric acid (D2EPHA) and Cyanex-272 at varying pH. Further experiments with the preferred extractant (D2EPHA) were performed under different conditions: changing the concentration of extractant, organic to aqueous ratio, and varying the diluents. At optimum conditions (40% v/v D2EPHA in kerosene, pH 2.5, O:A = 1:1, 25 °C, and 20 min), 85% Mn2+, 98% Al3+, 100% Fe3+, and 43% Cu2+ were extracted with losses of only trace amounts (<5.0%) of Co2+, Ni2+, and Li+. The order of extraction efficiency for the diluents was found to be kerosene > Exxal-10 >>> dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) > toluene. Four stages of stripping of metals loaded on D2EPHA were performed as co-extracted metal impurities were selectively stripped, and a purified MnSO4 solution was produced. In the current study, the effect of the nonionic surfactant (span 80) on the emulsification of a mixture of kerosene as a petroleum-based organic solvent and span80 as a green diluent in the ratio 1:1 was investigated. NaOH was used as the internal phase, and the stability of the emulsion was tested. The potential for extracting phenol from aqueous solutions without the use of a carrier agent has been explored using Pickering emulsion liquid membrane. Additionally, the impacts of experimental parameters include homogenizer speed, mixing speed, emulsification time, Fe3O4-Span 80 ratios, NaOH concentration, and internal to membrane volume ratio (I/O) on extraction effectiveness and emulsion stability. The findings demonstrated that after 9 minutes of contact time and a minimum breaking percent of 0.745% under ideal circumstances, more than 96% of phenol could be recovered. In addition thermodynamic analysis reveals that the extraction process was an endothermic and spontaneous in nature and the overall mass transfer coefficient was 1.115 m/s. Membrane materials and nanoparticles were recycled four time in the extraction of phenol with approximately the same efficiency and no significant breakage percent..

Recent biblical scholarship has called for more careful and detailed attention to the experiences of torture victims to better understand the crucifixion of Jesus (Menéndez- Antuña 2022). To this end, this article examines the torture of Miriam Leitão, one of Brazil's most prominent journalists. Leitão's torture in 1972 is attested in the report Brasil: Nunca Mais (1985), compiled by the Archdiocese of Sao Paulo, which records that she was left in a dark room with a boa constrictor. In 2014 Leitão disclosed in an interview that during her time with the snake she was naked. I argue Leitão's account of being 'alone and naked' offers insights into the repeated stripping of Jesus in the praetorium in Matthew 27:26–31, and his forced nudity on the cross. Reactive nitrogen (Nr) has become an essential nutrient to reclaim and recycle from wastewater. Nitrogen has become a valued resource that is beneficial to recover in the wastewater sector, as nitrogen is a key component in many fertilizers. The main subject of this work is to investigate the environmental consequences of a novel nitrogen recovery process from reject water. In our study, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), PESTLE, and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) were used to examine combining electroconcentration and stripping methods, including Monte Carlo simulation. Using SimaPro V9.3 software, the EF 3.0 Method, IPCC 2021 GWP100, ReCiPe 2016, and IMPACT World+ Endpoint were applied with heat and power, electricity high voltage, nuclear energy, and two renewable energies (solar and wind). EF 3.0 was endorsed by the European Commission for environmental footprinting. The operational unit of 1 m3 of reject water was chosen as the output, and "gate-to-gate" analysis was investigated. Our calculations show that the energies derived from natural sources reduce fossil-based environmental impacts and CO2 emissions significantly compared with conventional energy sources. A TOPSIS score was applied to appraise the choices in the case of MCDA. For the Australian territory, for the place of implementation of the technology, the most beneficial option was discovered to be wind energy offshore, with a score of 0.95, and the next was solar energy at 0.87. The aim of this work was to separate ethanol in an experimental adsorption–desorption device. We focused on concentrating ethanol by adsorption onto granulated activated carbon in its gaseous phase, which was produced by stripping a matrix with different ethanol concentrations (2, 5, 10, and 15% v/v). For adsorption, three kinds of granulated activated carbon (GAC) were used, marked as GAC1, GAC2, and GAC3. The separation product had a higher ethanol concentration than the initial ethanol concentration before the adsorption–desorption process. The enrichment factor was, in the case of the initial ethanol concentration, 2% v/v at the level of 10. With our new adsorption–desorption device, it is possible to achieve a product with an ethanol concentration of 59.0% v/v with stripping, adsorption, desorption, and condensation. To verify the separation efficiency, a real matrix (fermentation broth) was used. The ethanol concentration in the real matrix was, at the beginning of the separation process, 0.65% v/v; after using our separation device, it was 11.35% v/v. Using a real matrix, the enrichment factor was at the level of 18. The main advantage is the use of our new adsorption–desorption device for the continuous separation of ethanol from fermentation broth. This article is dedicated to the investigation of the synthesis of S-substituted thiiranes and thietanes-some derivatives of three- and four-membered heterocyclic sulfur compounds, respectively, specifically, S-(1,2-epithiopropyl) -N,N-dialkyldithiocarbamates and 3-N,N dialkyldithiocarbamatethiethanes, as anti-corrosion and anti-stripping additives to their lubricating oils, in order to find more effective new types of lubricant additives. The article also studied the correlation between the structure of the synthesized substances and their effectiveness as an additive for lubricating oils. As a result of the conducted scientific research, it was found that if the reaction of ETXP with, for example, sodium-diethyldithiocarbamate is carried out in dry benzene (in anhydrous conditions) at a temperature of 60- 70°C for 3 hours, the reaction product consists only of the corresponding thiirane derivative. If this reaction is carried out under the indicated conditions in an aqueous medium, thiirane-thietane regrouping occurs and the corresponding thiirane-thietane mixture is obtained as a result. The effect of the synthesized diethyldithiocarbamate-substituted thiirane and thietane MS-20 transmission oil on the corrosion and stripping properties was tested. It has been found that diethyldithiocarbamate-substituted thiirane and thietane derivatives have a substantial effect on the corrosion and stripping properties of lubricating oils. In thiirane compounds, the fragment bearing lubricating properties is a three-membered thiirane ring, in thietane compounds is a-four-membered thietane heterocyclic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective The purpose is to reduce energy consumption of the sulfur recovery unit through technological transformation and optimization of operating parameters. Methods (1) By analyzing the current energy consumption status of the unit, the technical transformation is adopted to solve the typical problems in energy saving and consumption reduction; (2) The quality of purified water is improved by optimizing stripping operation parameters. Results The technical transformation has obtained the following results: (1) Reducing the consumption of 1.2 MPa steam and 0.4 MPa steam in the device; (2) Effectively improving the comprehensive utilization rate of purified water, and reducing the consumption of production water and desalinated water as well as sewage discharge throughout the plant. Conclusions After technological transformation, the comprehensive energy consumption of the unit has decreased from the original 1 000 kgEO/t to the current 660 kgEO/t, and the reuse rate of purified water has increased from the original 40.0% to the current 83.5%. Background: Varicose veins could be a complicated condition, which may lead to limb swelling, pain, and venous ulcer. Conservative hemodynamic correction of venous insufficiency (CHIVA) has been developed over the past two decades and is currently the second most common surgical procedure for the operative treatment of varicose veins. Endovenous laser treatment of great saphenous vein was approved by FDA in 2002 and short saphenous vein (SSV) was approved in 2003. Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) is a clinically safe, feasible, and welltolerated technique without scar and allows people to return to their normal daily activities rapidly. Aims And Objectives: To study the surgical management (great saphenous vein [GSV] stripping and perforator ligation) and its outcome and compare the outcome of GSV stripping in case of saphenofemoral junction incompetence and perforator ligation in case of perforator incompetence with the results of endoscopic and endovenous procedurespublished in the literature. Results: The patients with varicose veins were treated with high ligation with stripping followed by foam sclerotherapy and RFA. None of the patients undergoing high ligation with stripping had DVT and recurrence which favors the procedure selection for management. However, high ligation with stripping was associated with tenderness followed by infection. complications were less prevalent and only two patients had tenderness. Similarly, in radiofrequency ablation (RFA), one patient each had recurrences, skin color changes, and tenderness. None of the patients undergoing HL/S and foam sclerotherapy had recurrences. It was found that the duration of hospital days was more with HL/S; the majority had 6 to 8 days duration of hospital days whereas 13 patients had it for 4 days. In RFA, the majority had a duration of hospital days of 2 to 3 days only. Conclusion: open surgical management remains important in the treatment of varicose veins and is usually preferable to endovenous procedures and associated with less morbidity if carried out correctly. The transition towards a CO2 neutral industry is currently spurring many new developments regarding processes for the conversion of CO2, or CO2-rich streams, into platform molecules such as methanol and dimethyl ether (DME). New processes give rise to new separation challenges, as well as novel opportunities for joint optimization of reaction and separation. In this context, the separation of CO2 and DME can be performed very efficiently using the newly developed concept of stripping enhanced distillation (SED). SED is a distillation process that utilizes an additional stripping component (clearing gas) to promote the separation in the column. SED benefits from the utilization of the feedstock components as a clearing gas that can afterwards be recycled back to the conversion unit with the vapor distillate. Strongly improving the separation performance in the column, this approach also removes the need for external stripping mediums and, in addition, this recycling approach may significantly reduce the demand on the conversion unit upstream of SED. The benefits of using SED are demonstrated for two different processes for DME synthesis: (i) CO2–DME separation after the sorption enhanced DME synthesis (SEDMES) process, using hydrogen as clearing gas, and (ii) CO2–DME separation after direct DME synthesis via dry reforming (DIDR), using methane as a clearing gas. For the different cases, it is shown that, with minimal adaptations, the energy consumption for distillation is reduced by 20–30%, while product losses are minimized at the same time. Graphene is an auspicious nanomodified material for asphalt pavements. This study aims to evaluate the effect of graphene composites (GCs) on the adhesion characteristics of asphalt based on surface-free energy (SFE) theory. The surface-free energy of graphene-modified asphalt was measured by the sessile drop method. The work of adhesion and stripping between asphalts and two kinds of aggregates were calculated through using their surface-free energy components. The macroadhesion property between asphalts and aggregates was obtained by the improved boiling method. Immersion Marshall test and freeze–thaw splitting test were conducted to verify the effectiveness of surface-free energy indexes. The results demonstrated that GC significantly increased total surface-free energy and dispersion components of asphalt but reduced the polarity components. The adhesion work between asphalt and both aggregates increased after modification, whereas the stripping work decreased after modification. GC can substantially improve the adhesion and resistance to moisture damage at the asphalt–aggregate interface, and the effect on asphalt-limestone is more obvious. There are strong correlations between macro evaluation indicators and surface-free energy calculated indexes, where the macro indicators are more strongly correlated with stripping work. Limestone is generally better at resisting moisture damage than granite. This article presents a descriptive and analytical overview of potential ellipsis cases in Spanish. After highlighting the main complications that the notion of ellipsis brings up, this work presents a detailed summary of the main empirical properties of ellipsis in nominal, verbal and clausal contexts. Then, the main theories about ellipsis and the analytical alternatives to standard deletion at PF are presented.
