This thesis examines the bearing capacity, stiffness, shear and moment force of a continuous wooden beam and how the parameters of the beam changes when the beam is spliced ​​with nail plate. A literature study has been conducted to examine which studies have been carried out in this field. Construction timber is the most common wooden element for wooden constructions but has limitations in available lengths since the maximum length manufactured is 5400 mm. If larger lengths are required, splicing must occur or use of other materials. The study examines a 2 series, a 3-point series (moment and shear) and a 4-point series (moment). Each series consists off 3 trials in each series to see how shear and moment force affect the strength. The study also shows which off the joints that gives the least strength. The samples are tested in a draw and pressure machine lying on 2 supports and with a point load for the 3-point method and 2-point loads for the 4-point method. In the trials pressure is applied until the beams break. The study investigates the lab results, fracture state and use state for the wooden beams being tested. The result of the study shows that a splicing will lower the wood's carrying capacity between 21-60% compared to a non-spliced beam for the 3-point method and a reduction of 40-66% compared to a non-spliced beam for the 4-point method. Despite the lowered bearing capacity all the experiments are still within the characteristic value and approved for use. A larger dimension on the nail plate would probably have given a better value., Detta examensarbete undersöker bärförmåga, styvhet, moment- och tvärkrafts påverkan hos en kontinuerlig träbalk och hur parametrarna för balken ändras då balken skarvas med spikplåt. En litteraturstudie har genomförts för att undersöka vilka studier som utförts på området. Konstruktionsvirke är det vanligaste träelementet vid träkonstruktioner men har begränsningar i tillgängliga längder då maxlängden som tillverkas är 5400mm. Vid behov av större längder måste skarvning förekomma eller användning av andra material. I studien undersöks två serier, en 3-punktsserie (moment och tvärkraft) samt en 4-punktsserie (moment). Varje serie består av 3 försök för att se hur moment och tvärkraft påverkar hållfastheten. Studien visar även vilken typ av skarv som ger minst hållfasthet. Proverna testas i en drag-tryck-maskin liggandes på 2 upplag med 1 punktlast anbringad för 3-punktsmetoden och 2 punktlaster för 4-punktsmetoden. I försöken anbringas kraft på balkarna tills de går i brott. Studien undersöker labbvärdet, brottstadiet och bruksstadiet för balkarna som testas. Analysen av försöken visar att en skarvning kommer sänka balken bärförmåga med mellan 21–60% gentemot en ren träbalk för trepunktsmetoden och en minskning på mellan 40–66% gentemot en ren träbalk för fyrpunktsmetoden. Trots den sänkta bärförmågan för balken i testerna är alla försöken inom det karaktäristiska värdet och godkända att användas. En större dimension på spikplåten hade antagligen gett ett bättre värde.

Machine tools need to be tested to check they behave correctly while machining. A bigger production (capacity), improving the accuracy in final products (quality) or reducing costs are some of the main goals. Reducing the maintenance of the machines, their nonproductive time and a higher quality of the final parts, have a strong influence in the costs. Even machines built to the same specification present different properties and behaviours, which leads into a reduction of the flexibility when it comes to move operations among them. This study is focused on the measurement and modelling of four machine tools (M1, M2, M3 and M4), with same specifications, from the static point of view. Methods used to measure all these properties are the circular tests under loaded conditions, with the device Loaded Double Ball Bar (LDBB), which measures positional accuracy and static stiffness. Different pressures (0.5, 1, 3, 5, 6, 7 bar) and locations for the LDBB have been used. After the tests were performed, all the machines shown good properties with the detail of M4, which had a lower stiffness than the other three ones due to its table attachments., Maskinverktyg måste testas för att kontrollera att de beter sig korrekt vid bearbetning. Olika tryck (0,5, 1, 3, 5, 6, 7 bar) och platser för LDBB har använts. Efter testerna visade alla maskiner goda egenskaper med detaljerna i M4, som hade en lägre styvhet än de andra tre på grund av dess bordsfästanordningar.

It is one of the largest tanks of its kind in the world. Safety is ensured by a steel outer intercepting shell and a double bottom. The tank was modelled in the programme ANSYS. The computational model was developed using the finite element method – elements SHELL181. A nonlinear contact problem was analysed for the simulation of the interaction between the bottom plate and foundation. The normative approach in design and check of tanks according to standards API 650, ČSN EN 14015, EEMUA 159 and API 653 is mentioned. The dominant loading of the filled tank is from oil. The normative solution is based on the shell theory, which considers constant wall thickness. For real tanks sheet thicknesses of individual courses increase with increasing depth. Stochastic sensitivity analysis was used to study the effect of the variability of the thickness of the ith course on the stress of adjacent courses. The Latin Hypercube Sampling method was implemented during analysis., Článek pojednává o analýze spolehlivosti a bezpečnosti svařované nádrže na skladování ropy, která se nachází na území České Republiky. Kapacita nádrže je 125 tisíc kubíků ropy. Jedná se o jednu z největších nádrží tohoto typu na světě. Bezpečnost je zajištěna ocelovou jímkou a dvojitým dnem. Nádrž byla modelována v programovém systému ANSYS. Výpočtový model byl sestaven s použitím metody konečných prvků - prvků SHELL181. Pro simulaci uložení dna na základech byla řešena nelineární kontaktní úloha. Je zmíněn normový přístup návrhu a kontroly nádrže dle norem API 650 a EN 14015 a EEMUA 159 and API 653. The static and dynamic behaviour of two different bolt-channel joints in an aluminium structure was studied. Theoretical models showed good agreement with experimental measurements.

A fully Sinc-Galerkin method for recovering the spatially varying stiffness parameter in fourth-order time dependent problems with fixed and cantilever boundary conditions is presented. The forward problems are discretized with a sinc basis in both the spatial and temporal domains. This yields an approximate solution which converges exponentially and is valid on the infinite time interval. When the forward methods are applied to parameter recovery, the resulting inverse problems are ill-posed. Tikhonov regularization is applied and the resulting minimization problems are solved via a quasi- Newton/trust region algorithm. The L-curve method is used to determine an appropriate value of the regularization parameter. Numerical results which highlight the methods are given for problems with both fixed and cantilever boundary conditions.

Adaptive compliance control of a robotic single joint was studied to control the amount of torque applied on an object by an end effector, which is actuated by an electric motor through a gearbox. For this reason, an adaptive control system was designed. Variation in stiffness and compliance was observed by simulating the system with MATRIX package program. After observing theoretical variation of the stiffness and the compliance, experiments were done to observe and prove the stiffness control theory. The proved theory was then applied to a prototype robotic finger joint actuated by a small DC motor.

A finite element model is developed for structural analysis of axisymmetric geometries with surface contact. The contact occurs when small gaps exist between adjacent parts of the structure and these gaps are closed during the loading cycle. In the model, this phenomenon is simulated by special gap finite elements. Originally, the gap elements have relatively low stiffness, and as surface contact is obtained, the stiffness matrix of these elements is modified to simulate very stiff response in the direction of the contact. The finite element model allows for elastic-plastic and elastic-viscoplastic materials with isotropic or orthotropic properties. The axisymmetric configuration allows for three displacement components in the cylindrical coordinates.

A thin layer of adhesive bonded between two stiff elastic plates of uniform thickness and triangular in shape is recommended as a test specimen for measuring cohesive or adhesive strength. It has marked advantages in comparison with current ASTM tests in simplicity of construction and use. Examples are given using silicone rubber layers bonded between steel plates. Double Cantilever Beam (DCB) tests have been widely used to measure the strength of stiff structural adhesives because the experiments are simple to perform and analyse.

This report presents a brief conceptual analysis of the effect of bomb rack flexibility on the ejection velocity of external stores. It is shown that rack flexibility has a major effect on the accuracy of the bombing system. (Author)

Presented is the foundation of the hybrid stress finite element method for the large deflection analysis of multi-layered aircraft tires. A layer-wise disjoint homogeneous stress field is introduced to facilitate arbitrary stress distribution across the thickness co-ordinate, whose connectivity is established by the interlayer equilibrium conditions. Each layer is an orthotropic ply consisting of textile cords embedded in an elastic rubber matrix. Triangular plate elements are used with five generalized displacements at the nodes. The external loads applied to the tire are inflation, pressure, inertial and nodal contact forces, which are based on the unbounded contact of the shell reference surface with a frictionless rigid and flat plate. A linear structure can be characterized by its compliance matrix C, which is 6x6 symmetrical and positive definite and which relates a force 6-vector F sub j to a displacement 6-vector D sub j by the relation CF sub j = D sub j. The inverse, S, of C, is called the stiffness matrix and satisfies SD sub j = F sub j. This thesis deals with the problem of finding optimal values of such matrices C and S from experimental determinations of a sufficient number of vector-pairs (F sub j, D sub j) which are presumed to contain random errors. J. E. Brock has introduced this problem area, suggested several different criteria of optimality, and solved some of the corresponding specific problems. This thesis completes the solution to a previously unsolved specific problem of this group and contributes computationally convenient new solutions to another. Moreover, a computer program, originally written for the CDC 1604 has been rewritten, in FORTRAN IV Language, as two programs for the IBM System 360 computer, and the capability has been significantly augmented. A method is proposed for achieving complete displacement compatibility between a conical shell of revolution and an enclosed core stiffener when using the discrete-element method of analysis. The equations and matrices (stiffness, mass, and nodal loads) necessary to carry out either static or dynamic analyses of the core-stiffened shell of revolution are derived, and application of the method in the static case is shown by two example problems.

Theoretical solutions for the gap thickness in an infinitely wide foil bearing are reviewed. An experiment is described using a stainless steel foil wrapped about a high speed rotor. Details of instrumentation are included. Results are presented for the relation between gap thickness and foil stiffness for low values of foil tension. (Author)

Cílem předložené práce bylo provedení výpočtové analýzy hybridní (litino-kompozitové) konstrukce smykadla a srovnání výsledků se současnou celokovovou verzí. Byla provedena statická a modální analýza a analýza odezvy na vynucené harmonické buzení. Výpočet byl řešen pro tři různá vyložení smykadla. Byly určeny statické tuhosti, vlastní frekvence a dynamické poddajnosti smykadla. Získané výsledky byly ověřeny pomocí experimentu na zmenšeném modelu smykadla. Při řešení úlohy bylo využito moderního softwarového vybavení, jmenovitě systémů MSC Patran, MD Nastran, Matlab a ProENGINEER., The main objective of the work was to perform a computational analysis of the hybrid (steel-composite) carrier and compare the results with the original metal carrier. Static analysis, modal analysis and frequency response were solved. Computation was performed for three different relative positions of the carrier. Static stiffness, natural frequencies and dynamic compliance have been calculated. The results were verified by an experiment performed on a scaled-down model of the carrier. Modern software products, namely MSC Patran, MD Nastran, Matlab and ProENGINEER, were used for the calculation.

Cílem předložené práce bylo posouzení možností a omezení přístupů prosté pružnosti při pevnostní a deformační analýze složené konstrukce a realizace vlastního výpočtu. Pro úspěšné vypracování bylo nutné vytvořit jednodušší prutový výpočtový model. Výpočet byl proveden pro tři případy zátěžných stavů ve střední a krajní poloze smykadla. Byly získány hodnoty stykových sil a momentů ve vazbách a hodnoty deformačních posuvů v místě hlavy vřeteníku. Z těchto výsledků byly určeny tuhosti konstrukce v tomto místě. Byly také provedeny pevnostní kontroly pojezdových částí obráběcího centra. Při řešení úlohy byly použity moderní softwarové prostředky (Autodesk Inventor, ProENGINEER, ANSYS Workbench, Maple, Mathcad, atd.). Obdržené výsledky byly porovnány s hodnotami získanými pomocí metody konečných prvků., Main objective of the work was to estimate the possibilities and the limits of elementary stress and strain analysis of the construction. At the beginning it was necessary to simplify the problem to the 1-D bar problem. The calculation was performed for three typical loading cases, namely for the middle and the border position of the machining head. The obtained results were then used for the stiffness evaluation of the construction at the machining head. The strength analysis of the moving parts of the machinig center has been done, too. Modern software products (Autodesk Inventor, ProENGINEER, ANSYS Workbench, Maple, Mathcad, etc.) were used for the calculation. The results were compared with The Finite Element Method results.

V této práci je zpracován kompletní postup určení tuhosti statorového svazku u elektrických strojů točivých s využitím metody konečných prvků (MKP), podle kterého byla následně vytvořena databáze tuhostí těchto svazků. Dále je zde provedena citlivostní analýza vybraného modelu svazku, která vedla k určení parametrů nejvíce ovlivňujících právě jeho tuhost. Nakonec byla na jednom ze synchronních strojů provedena modální analýza pomocí MKP, za účelem ověření vlivu tuhosti svazku na modální vlastnosti stroje. Tímto jsme určili několik vlastních tvarů stroje a jim odpovídajících frekvencí, z nichž byly nakonec vybrány a porovnány ty tvary, které byly tuhostí svazku ovlivněny nejvíce., In this thesis is wrote up a complete procedure of stator core stiffness determination using finite element method (FEM), subsequently, the stator core stiffness database was created according to this procedure. In the next chapter is carried out a sensitivity analysis of one chosen stator core, which led to identifying parameters that affected its stiffness the most. Finally, a modal analysis of one synchronous machine was performed using FEM, in order to determine the effect of stator core stiffness on modal characteristics of the machine. Several modal shapes and corresponding natural frequencies were computed in this analysis, then only a few shapes with the highest core effect were chosen and compared.

V této práci je zpracován kompletní postup určení tuhosti statorového svazku u elektrických strojů točivých s využitím metody konečných prvků (MKP), podle kterého byla následně vytvořena databáze tuhostí těchto svazků. Dále je zde provedena citlivostní analýza vybraného modelu svazku, která vedla k určení parametrů nejvíce ovlivňujících právě jeho tuhost. Nakonec byla na jednom ze synchronních strojů provedena modální analýza pomocí MKP, za účelem ověření vlivu tuhosti svazku na modální vlastnosti stroje. Tímto jsme určili několik vlastních tvarů stroje a jim odpovídajících frekvencí, z nichž byly nakonec vybrány a porovnány ty tvary, které byly tuhostí svazku ovlivněny nejvíce., In this thesis is wrote up a complete procedure of stator core stiffness determination using finite element method (FEM), subsequently, the stator core stiffness database was created according to this procedure. In the next chapter is carried out a sensitivity analysis of one chosen stator core, which led to identifying parameters that affected its stiffness the most. Finally, a modal analysis of one synchronous machine was performed using FEM, in order to determine the effect of stator core stiffness on modal characteristics of the machine. Several modal shapes and corresponding natural frequencies were computed in this analysis, then only a few shapes with the highest core effect were chosen and compared.

Cílem předložené práce bylo provedení výpočtové analýzy hybridní (litino-kompozitové) konstrukce smykadla a srovnání výsledků se současnou celokovovou verzí. Byla provedena statická a modální analýza a analýza odezvy na vynucené harmonické buzení. Výpočet byl řešen pro tři různá vyložení smykadla. Byly určeny statické tuhosti, vlastní frekvence a dynamické poddajnosti smykadla. Získané výsledky byly ověřeny pomocí experimentu na zmenšeném modelu smykadla. Při řešení úlohy bylo využito moderního softwarového vybavení, jmenovitě systémů MSC Patran, MD Nastran, Matlab a ProENGINEER., The main objective of the work was to perform a computational analysis of the hybrid (steel-composite) carrier and compare the results with the original metal carrier. Static analysis, modal analysis and frequency response were solved. Computation was performed for three different relative positions of the carrier. Static stiffness, natural frequencies and dynamic compliance have been calculated. The results were verified by an experiment performed on a scaled-down model of the carrier. Modern software products, namely MSC Patran, MD Nastran, Matlab and ProENGINEER, were used for the calculation.

Cílem předložené práce bylo posouzení možností a omezení přístupů prosté pružnosti při pevnostní a deformační analýze složené konstrukce a realizace vlastního výpočtu. Pro úspěšné vypracování bylo nutné vytvořit jednodušší prutový výpočtový model. Výpočet byl proveden pro tři případy zátěžných stavů ve střední a krajní poloze smykadla. Byly získány hodnoty stykových sil a momentů ve vazbách a hodnoty deformačních posuvů v místě hlavy vřeteníku. Z těchto výsledků byly určeny tuhosti konstrukce v tomto místě. Byly také provedeny pevnostní kontroly pojezdových částí obráběcího centra. Při řešení úlohy byly použity moderní softwarové prostředky (Autodesk Inventor, ProENGINEER, ANSYS Workbench, Maple, Mathcad, atd.). Obdržené výsledky byly porovnány s hodnotami získanými pomocí metody konečných prvků., Main objective of the work was to estimate the possibilities and the limits of elementary stress and strain analysis of the construction. At the beginning it was necessary to simplify the problem to the 1-D bar problem. The calculation was performed for three typical loading cases, namely for the middle and the border position of the machining head. The contact forces and momentums and the displacements at the machining head have been calculated. The obtained results were then used for the stiffness evaluation of the construction at the machining head. The strength analysis of the moving parts of the machinig center has been done, too. Modern software products (Autodesk Inventor, ProENGINEER, ANSYS Workbench, Maple, Mathcad, etc.) were used for the calculation. The results were compared with The Finite Element Method results.
