The starosts distinguished themselves among other state officials in the Principality of Moldavia as overseers of the northern counties, on the border with the Kingdom of Poland and the Great Duchy of Lithuania, as well as governors of Putna County, in the south. While this description accurately reflects their duties since the rule of Stephen the Great (1457-1504), it remains to be seen if the same could be said about the previous time periods. The study presents a detailed analysis of the political and administrative role of the starosts in the Principality of Moldavia between the end of the 14th century and the first half of the 15th century, showcasing the political careers of their holders during this period and attempting to pinpoint the exact area of the starosts' projected territorial power. Background: Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels play an important role in diagnosing, screening, and monitoring the treatment of diabetes. Our study aims to determine whether a relationship exists between HbA1c levels and age and gender in Turkish adults who have not been diagnosed with diabetes. Methods: This retrospective study included 6776 Turkish adults with no known diabetes. Cross-sectional analyses of A1C levels were performed between different age and gender categories. In statistical analysis, t-test, linear regression analysis, one-way ANOVA analysis, and LSD post hoc were used. Results: HbA1c levels in the individuals examined by dividing into different age groups increased with age in all groups. In our study, HbA1c levels were significantly higher in males than females (p<0.001) in all groups, especially between the ages of 30-49, and were positively associated with age for males and females. There was a positive correlation between HbA1c and age in both mesn and women aged 30-49 (P<0.05). In the HbA1c 6.5% group newly diagnosed with diabetes, HbA1c levels gradually decreased with age in both genders, and no significant effect of age on HbA1c level was detected (p>0.05). Conclusions: Our results showed that it is important to evaluate the effects of age and gender when using HbA1c levels in the diagnosis, screening, and treatment of diabetes, especially in young and middle-aged populations. Applying this situation to daily practice may reduce the misdiagnosis of diabetes in elderly patients, overtreatment of diabetes, and its associated risks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Antropološko istraživanje – sprovedeno u periodu od 2020. do 2022. godine – dizajnirano je s ciljem da uputi u najvažnija pitanja koja se odnose na strukturalne preduslove za rad u starosti, ali i na motive trinaest sagovornika za preduzimanje poslovnih aktivnosti nakon penzionisanja. Na ovaj način bilo je moguće odgovoriti i na neka ključna pitanja koja se tiču kvaliteta života u starosti, i to na osnovu procena ljudi koji ga žive, što je u skladu sa antropološkom orijentacijom preduzetog kvalitativnog istraživanja. Rad u starosti bio je tako shvatan ili kao preimućstvo ili kao egzistencijalna nužnost, što je dalje imalo implikacija i na pojedine strategije delovanja pojedinaca. Među njima, kao najznačajnije, izdvajaju se one koje podrazumevaju nastavak rada u okviru ranijih obrazovnih i radnih usmerenja ili pak potpunu promenu delatnosti od one u kojoj su ostvarili pravo na penziju. Na osnovu dobijenih etnografskih podataka bilo je moguće konstatovati i specifičan vid preduzetništva poput srebrnog preduzetništva, pored rada u okviru neformalne ekonomije i/ili prema propisanim zakonskim rešenjima.

Studije ukazuju da odrasle osobe sa lakom intelektualnom ometenošću uglavnom imaju ograničen spektar mogućnosti za izbor o različitim životnim domenima o kojima osobe tipične populacije samostalno odlučuju. Niska dostupnost izbora kod ove populacije manje je izražena u svakodnevnim aktivnostima, a izraženija je u vezi sa složenijim životnim pitanjima. Cilj istraživanja bio je da se utvrdi nivo dostupnosti izbora osobama sa lakom intelektualnom ometenošću u različitim životnim oblastima, kao i da se ispita postojanje razlika u dostupnosti izbora u odnosu na pol, starosnu dob i tip stanovanja ispitanika. Uzorak je činilo 36 odraslih ispitanika sa lakom intelektualnom ometenošću, oba pola, starosti od 22 do 49 godina. Za prikupljanje podataka upotrebljen je Upitnik o izboru (The Choice Questionnaire; Stancliffe & Parmenter, 1999), koja je primenjen u vidu intervjua sa ispitanicima. Rezultati su pokazali da ispitanici imaju najviše prilika da vrše odabir u domenu socijalnih aktivnosti, dok najmanje izbora imaju u vezi sa upravljanjem novcem. Statistički značajne razlike u dostupnosti izbora utvrđene su u odnosu na tip stanovanja (t=-3,682; p=0,001), pri čemu više prilika za odabir željene opcije u različitim životnim domenima imaju ispitanici koji stanuju uz podršku, u odnosu na ispitanike koji stanuju u porodičnom domu. Utvrđena je i statistički značajna povezanost između dostupnosti izbora ispitanicima i njihove starosti (r=0,371; p=0,026), na način da sa starošću ispitanika raste broj aktivnosti u kojima dobijaju priliku da biraju ono što žele. Statistički značajne razlike u dostupnosti prilika za vršenje odabira u svakodnevnom životu između ispitanika muškog i ženskog pola nisu utvrđene (t=-0,417; p=0,679). Dobijeni rezultati daju praktične implikacije koje se odnose na potrebu za povećanjem dostupnosti izbora u vezi sa svakodnevnim aktivnostima i složenijim životnim pitanjima osobama sa lakom intelektualnom ometenošću, u skladu sa njihovim mogućnostima, a sa posebnim naglaskom na osobe stanuju u porodičnim domovima i mlađe odrasle osobe.

Na vzorcu 173 anketirancev (72 moških in 101 ženska), starih od 20 do več kot 60 let, iz Republike Hrvaške smo želeli ugotoviti, ali razumejo besedila oglasnih sporočil na jumbo plakatih in panojih, ki so pisana v celoti angleško ali pa kot kombinacija hrvaščine in angleščine. Statistično pomembne razlike med moškimi in ženskami niso zaznane, v posameznostih pa so ugotovljene razlike med starostnimi skupinami.

The aim of this study was to investigate the influences of sex and age on haematological values in the Posavje Horse breed. A total of 163 healthy Posavje horses (30 foals, 94 mares and 39 stallions) were used in this study; their complete blood counts and a leucogram were obtained with a haematological analyser. The horses were classified into five groups: foals (1 to 6 months, n = 30), 3 to 6 years (n = 8 stallions/21 mares), 7 to 9 years (n = 9 stallions/22 mares), 10 to 13 years (n = 8 stallions/20 mares), 14 to 15 years (n = 6 stallions/10 mares) and 16 and over (n = 8 stallions/21 mares). The results obtained show an influence of sex on haematological parameters, with red blood cell count (RBC), haematocrit (HCT) and haemoglobin concentration (HGB) being higher in stallions (P < 0.001) and white blood cell count (WBC) being higher in mares. Differences between the age groups of the Posavje horses examined indicate a decrease in RBC and HGB with a compensatory increase in mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular haemoglobin, a decrease in WBC and platelet counts (PLT) and proportion of lymphocytes, and an increase of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (N/L) with age (P < 0.001). Although the Posavje horse is classified as a draft horse breed, its haematological parameters show characteristics common to warm-blooded breeds, with the exception of the N/L ratio. One of the most important findings of this study is a higher neutrophil count in reproductively active breeding stallions. Higher levels of RBC, HGB, HCT and neutrophil count in the Posavje stallions suggest an effect of androgens (testosterone), which may be an effective mechanism to prevent infections, that can affect the survival of the stallions and thus the evolution of the species. The article provides some insights into the mobility of elderly people living in different settlements, differing in gender and age. Based on the data collected by the survey, the frequencies of departures from home, the most frequently travelled distances and the common ways of overcoming distances in the elderly were determined. The amendment to the Act on Road Traffic Law introduced a new legal institution related to failure to register a vehicle consisting of an administrative fine in the amount of PLN 200 to 1,000. The penalty is imposed by means of an administrative decision issued by a competent starost. With the introduction of the above-mentioned institution in legal circulation, new problems will arise in connection with conducting administrative proceedings to impose a penalty, as well as determining its amount. In addition, a starost, as a creditor, is obliged to initiate enforcement proceedings in the absence of voluntary execution of the decision imposing the penalty. The established body aims to ensure the implementation of Directive 2000/53/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 September 2000 on end-of-life vehicles, concerning, i.a., the absence of sanctions for not registering an imported vehicle and not registering an end-of-life vehicle. The following article discusses the main problems related to the application of the institution introduced with regard to the administrative procedure, the nature of the penalty imposed, as well as its enforcement. The considerations were carried out on the basis of a dogmatic method.

There are a small number of Slovenians living in Montenegro, but they are still very interesting to study. The first census of the population of Montenegro was carried out in 1879 during the reign of Prince Nikola. The first fairly accurate census data dates back to 1909, while later, modern censuses were carried out in three state-territorial contexts. Six censuses were conducted during the Kingdom of the SHS (1921 and 1931), six censuses during the SFRY (1948-1991) and two censuses during the independent Republic of Montenegro (2003 and 2011). The Slovenian population was already visible in the 1921 census, when 55 persons identified themselves as Slovenes. The first census in modern Montenegro counted 415 Slovenians, for whom demographic trends are desperate and represent a biological depopulation. In the last census in 2011, even fewer persons declared themselves Slovenes, 354, and the average age rose to 53.2 years. The present work provides a basic demographic analysis of Slovenians in the Republic of Montenegro and how the change in the country's legal status has affected the development of the Slovenian population and its organisation in the new state. Izhodišče: Primerjati kirurško obravnavo bolnikov z malformacijo Chiari I (CM-I) pri nas in po svetu ter ugotoviti primerljivost uspeha pri uporabi različnih kirurških tehnik. Metode: Opravili smo retrospektivno analizo 10 bolnikov, ki so bili operirani zaradi CM-I v UKC Maribor, Kirurška klinika, Oddelek za nevrokirurgijo v obdobju od januarja 2010 do maja 2016. Podatke o bolnikih smo zbrali v tabele in opravili deskriptivno statistično analizo vzorca. Pregledali smo literaturo v angleščini v podatkovnih bazah PubMed in Ovid na temo kirurškega zdravljenja CM-I. Rezultate raziskav smo primerjali s svojimi ugotovitvami. Rezultati: V obdobju od januarja 2010 do maja 2016 smo operirali 10 bolnikov: 8 žensk in 2 moška v starosti 11–57 let. Simptomi pred operacijo so trajali od 1 meseca do 29 let. Glavoboli so bili prisotni pri 8 bolnikih, bolečina v vratu je bila prisotna pri 4 bolnikih, vrtoglavica pri 2 bolnikih, mravljinčenje v rokah pa pri enem bolniku. Znaki pred operacijo pa so trajali od 1 leta do 29 let. Pri 2 bolnikih je bila prisotna spastična tetrapareza, pri 2 bolnikih motnja senzibilitete in pri 1 bolniku tremor rok. Pridruženo hidromielijo je imelo 5 bolnikov. Skoliozo sta imeli 2 bolnici. Pri vseh 10 bolnikih smo se odločili za kirurško obravnavo. V skupini 10 bolnikov, ki smo jih obravnavali, ni nihče umrl. Pri 2 bolnikih smo zaznali tekočinsko kolekcijo likvorja v podkožju, pri 1 bolniku tudi povišano telesno temperaturo in oteklino, izcedek iz rane pa pri 2 bolnikih. Bolnike smo sledili od 6 mesecev do 6 let. Vsi bolniki so navajali izboljšanje simptomov po operaciji. Zaključek: Rezultati naše raziskave so primerljivi z rezultati podobnih raziskav v literaturi. Ob tem pa moramo opomniti, da je bilo število bolnikov, vključenih v našo študijo, sorazmerno majhno. Razvidno je, da nikjer ni natančno določeno, kdaj se je treba odločiti za določen tip operacije, prav tako je v literaturi prisotna velika raznolikost v izidih po operaciji. Kirurško obravnavo je treba za vsakega bolnika individualizirati.

Population structure, growth, age, mortality and exploitation status of Atherina boyeri, caught in the period from June 2013 to May 2014 in the Lesina lagoon (Apulia region, southern Adriatic) was studied. Samples were taken each month by using beach seines . The length–weight relationship of all sand smell specimens was described by the equation W=0.012*TL 3.10; (R2= 0.84). Population parameters including the asymptotic length (L∞) and growth coefficient (K) were assessed to evaluate the stock status. The recruitment pattern was modeled with a FiSAT routine. The asymptotic length (L∞) was 111.0 mm, while the growth coefficient (K) was 0.68 year−1. The growth performance index ((φ’) reached 3.92. The total mortality coefficient “Z”, the natural mortality coefficient “M” and the fishing mortality coefficient “F” were estimated as 2.24, 1.48 and 0.76 year-1, respectively. Exploitation rate for the population of A. boyeri in the Lesina lagoon estimated as 0.34 was resulted still lower than the predicted maximum value of Emax 0.59. The probability of capture indicated that L50 was of 55.57 mm, indicating that the stock of sand smelt in Lesina lagoon is not being over-fished. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents the basic demographic characteristics of Slovenes in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Hercegovina - BiH). A comparison of the 1991 and 2013 censuses is made. The dynamics of the number, territorial dispersion, gender, age and religious structure of Slovenes in the period before and after the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina are analyzed. The evacuation of 348 Slovenes from Sarajevo in November 1992 had a profound effect on the number, structure and territorial distribution of the Slovene population in the capital of BiH. The aim of this study was to determine the change in the value of morpho-metric parameters of antlers and the total trophy score in relation to the age of roe deer (Capreolus capreolus L.). The study was conducted on 228 roe deer trophies from the "Barajevska reka" hunting ground in Serbia, aged one to seven years. From the second to the fourth year, the growth of antlers was the most intense, and the differences compared to one year old animals were significant (P <0.001). The highest average length of the branches was monitored in six years old animals (22.4 ± 2.05 cm), with significant differences (P <0.001) compared to younger animals, except for the three years old animals (P>0.05). From the second to the fifth year, a gradual increase in antler weight (from 192.2 ± 30.41 g to 221.9 ± 61.86 g) and antler volume (from 74 cm3 to 90 cm3) was observed, with the highest values of antler weight (291.8 ± 58.43 g and 319.1 ± 98.89 g, respectively) and antler volume (123.8 cm3 and 121.2 cm3) in six and seven year old animals. Overall trophy scores increased from year one to year seven (42.6 ± 7.86 vs 97.4 ± 27.40), with differences in trophy scores for animals aged six and seven years significantly greater than for animals aged one to five years (P <0.001).
