The percentage of international faculty members at Korean universities peaked in 2013 and has been decreasing since, suggesting that Korean universities have a problem with international faculty member retention. This study investigates whether international faculty members' intention to leave is associated with their degree of acculturation. Results are based on analyses of data from 325 international faculty members with doctorates working at Korean universities nationwide. Regression analyses reveal that acculturation, work-related conditions (salary, workload, workplace climate) and mobility-related motivational factors (job market in home country, interest in Korea) explain international faculty members' intention to leave. A 'cultural advantage' (ethnically Korean or living with a Korean spouse) is not a significant predictor of intention to leave. Suggestions to support international faculty members, and to help bring about synergistic organizational change are ventured in the hopes of bolstering retention at Korean universities going forward.

International spouses, individuals who accompany a partner studying in a foreign country, are an important source of support for international students and scholars, yet many academic institutions overlook this population. Research indicates that many international spouses benefit from joining language programs; however, there has been no research on how to design such programs to support international spouses. By drawing on the theoretical constructs of investment (Darvin & Norton, 2015) and capital (Bourdieu, 1986), this study investigates the goals of international spouses, the relationship between these goals and English proficiency, and how international spouses perceived the language resources available to them. Semi-structured interviews with 15 (8 female, 7 male) international spouses in the U.S. revealed that the participants viewed English as relevant to their professional, social, and cultural goals, and that various factors influenced which ESL programs they joined. This study concludes with recommendations for designing programs to support international spouses.

Proverbs are maxims that reflect the values, beliefs, and cultural heritage of a society. This study attempted to conduct ethnocultural analysis of two concepts, marriage and family, in the Chinese Paremiology. The topics of 'marriage' and 'family' are extensively covered in Chinese proverbs; hence this study aimed to find out how Chinese proverbs about marriage and family reflect the Chinese cultural view of these institutions. A sample of 333 proverbs from the Dictionary of Chinese Proverbs was chosen and was categorized into several categories like partner selection criteria, forms of marriage, divorce, remarriage, relations between husband and wife, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, daughter-in-law and wife, parent-child relationship, and resolution of family conflicts. The study found out that most Chinese proverbs dealt with the concept of male superiority over women. A few proverbs presented the Chinese ethno-cultural practices adopted in choosing a spouse, marriage and family customs, and family values. The research has practical significance as the results can be used in compiling a guide to the study of proverbs, a dictionary of Chinese proverbs, and a corpus of proverbs in philological science.

This reflective essay addresses the nexus of two recent events in the United States: (1) the public scrutiny of the relationship between land grant universities and the expropriation of Indigenous lands and (2) the often uncritical and rapid uptake of settler land acknowledgments at public college and university events. We argue that written land acknowledgment statements need to accompany actions that align with declarations of respect and honor. Specifically, we offer readers three concrete ideas through which institutions may further land acknowledgments: challenging their historical legacies, fostering meaningful partnerships with Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples, and materializing resources for this highly underserved, long-neglected, often ignored community.

Relationships that involve a physician and a non-physician professional spouse face many challenges that are similar to those experienced by dual career marriages. However, there are unique demands that are associated with physicians who are married to other professionals. One such challenge is the task of navigating their multiple familial and professional roles. This present study explores how physicians who are married to other professionals confront and navigate the complex environment that is often characteristic of work-family issues in this population. Employing an exploratory qualitative design, 34 heterosexual individuals (17 couples) completed in-depth qualitative interviews. These dyadic interviews included 10 male physicians and 7 female physicians. A multisystemic approach was employed to explore themes that emerged. One major theme, contextual appreciation of the physician's work demands, and three sub-themes: familial support, non-traditional parenting and domestic roles, and paid help, emerged. These data provide important information for the medical education of physicians with specific emphasis on navigating multiple familial and professional roles when part of dual career marriages. Findings provide implications for physician vitality/health, medical education, and continuing education with a focus on physician marriages.

Family practitioners come from many walks of life and may include students, provided they are sufficiently prepared or supported through hands-on learning experiences. In this study, we report the outcomes of community different-sex couples who participated in a free, six-week, student-facilitated Marriage Enrichment Workshop between 2015 and 2018, offered over distance via Interactive Video Conferencing. Data from n = 39 individuals (25 couples) indicated positive change during workshop participation regarding negative interaction, commitment, and sexual and emotional intimacy. At six months post-workshop, only change in negative interaction retained significance. No significant results were reported for overall marital satisfaction, and no effects of booster sessions were detected. This workshop showed slight positive gains for couples, a favorable outcome for an experience with dual goals of providing student practice and strengthening couple relationships in the community.

It is important to examine women's experiences in the infertility process, as being a woman is perceived as a concept that overlaps with motherhood, and the woman herself is exposed to physical pain during the treatment. In this research, which was carried out with a phenomenological pattern, one of the qualitative methods, the experiences of married women diagnosed with infertility regarding the infertility process were examined, and it was tried to determine the themes that would help psychological counselors in the therapeutic process. The study group consists of 10 women selected by criterion sampling using purposeful sampling methods. The results of the research were discussed under seven headings: infertility experience, stress factors, acquired skills, social support resources, the role of the spouse, coping skills, and belief in the treatment. The theme of the infertility experience includes codes of negativeness, helplessness, frustration, and compelling; the theme of stress factors includes codes of expectations, pressure, uncertainty, the passage of treatment, personal conflicts, against his spouse's liability, failure, and the search for a solution; the theme of acquired skills includes codes of coping with the challenges, obtaining medical information, hoping, common share, body recognition, gender awareness, healthy eating, the theme of social support resources includes codes of, contact, spouse, family, friend, and counselor; the theme of the role of spouse includes codes of support; the theme of coping skills includes codes of, religious beliefs, social activities, the sense of common humanity, work and psychological support; the theme of faith for treatment includes codes of hope and despair.

This study aimed to examine whether the tendency to cheat and interpersonal cognitive distortions have a predictive effect on the marital satisfaction level of married teachers. The sample of the study consisted of 107 (28.1%) male and 271 (71.9%) female married teachers working in Gaziantep. In the study, a Personal Information Form was used to collect data on the demographic characteristics of married teachers, the Marriage Life Scale to measure marital satisfaction level, the Cheating Tendency Scale to measure the level of infidelity tendency, and the Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scale to measure interpersonal cognitive distortions. A survey model was used in this study. The Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Regression analysis methods were used in the analysis process of the obtained data. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the tendency to cheat and interpersonal cognitive distortions were significant predictors of marital satisfaction. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that the tendency to cheat and interpersonal cognitive distortions explained 30% of married teachers' marital satisfaction. At the same time, there is a negative and significant relationship between marital satisfaction and the tendency to cheat; a positive and significant relationship exists between the tendency to cheat and interpersonal cognitive distortions. It has been determined that there is a negative and significant relationship between interpersonal cognitive distortions and marital satisfaction.

The aim of this study is to examine the behaviors of married individuals to maintain relationships according to their gender and gender role attitudes. The study group of the study consisted of 177 (52.8%) females and 158 males (%) aged between 24 and 50 (vinculum =30.2), residing in Izmir, and having a relationship period of 2 to 20 years (vinculum =5.9). 47.2), a total of 335 heterosexual married people. As data collection tools in the research, "Relationship Maintenance Strategies Scale", "Gender Roles Attitude Scale" and "Personal Information Form" were used. Two-way MANOVA method was used in the analysis of the data. Findings from the two-way MANOVA analysis show that gender and gender roles have an impact on relationship maintenance behaviors. In this context, it has been determined that gender roles have a higher degree of influence than biological sex in maintaining relationships. According to the findings of the study, it was determined that female participants exhibited relationship-maintaining behaviors more frequently than male participants. In terms of gender roles attitude, It has been determined that the participants who have an egalitarian gender role attitude exhibit more frequent relationship maintenance behaviors than the participants who have traditional gender roles attitudes. As a result, gender and gender roles have a significant effect on relationship maintenance strategies.

There are ongoing global efforts to mitigate intimate partner violence (IPV); nevertheless, IPV is extensive in conflict-affected countries like Afghanistan. This study examined disparities in IPV endorsement among Afghan women using data from the 2015 Afghanistan Demographic and Health Survey of 20,793 ethnically diverse married women. We adopted intersectionality and social entrapment theories to account for various socio-cultural factors that explain IPV endorsement in the Afghan context. The results revealed that over 80% of respondents endorsed physical IPV in various circumstances. Hierarchical logistic regression estimated over threefold effects of broader social and cultural factors with a Nagelkerke R Square value of 0.131 (13.1%) variance in the IPV endorsement than the commonly found socio-demographic risk factors with a Nagelkerke R Square value of 0.041 (4.1%) variance. According to our multivariate analysis, the most significant predictor was fear of husbands, which explained 9.4% of the variance. Province-level political conflict severity and prior exposure to parental IPV accounted for another 1.6% and .8% variance, respectively. We also noted many culture- and context-specific variations, emphasizing the need for a nuanced approach to addressing the issue of Afghan women's stance on IPV.

This study aims to investigate the self-efficacy levels and perceived mattering of parents with preschool children. The study employed a correlational survey research design. The study group of the research consists of 302 parents whose children attend private preschool educational institutions in the city center of Gümüshane province, Turkey. The data of the study were collected using "Introductory Information Form," the "General Self-Efficacy Scale," and the "Perceived Mattering Questionnaire." T-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of the study revealed that fathers and parents with male children have higher levels of perceived mattering. In addition, it was found that parents who live in a nuclear family, have two children, have a marriage duration of 5-9 years, and are very satisfied with their marriage have high levels of self-efficacy and perceived mattering. It was also found that parents' sense of mattering to their spouses positively affects their self-efficacy levels. In this context, spouses' perceptions of mattering and self-efficacy can be investigated in more detail and this solution-oriented studies can be carried out on this issue.

This study aims to examine preschool teachers' compassion and fear of compassion. The sample of this survey study consisted of 274 preschool teachers. Personal Information Form, Adult Compassion Scale, and Fear of Compassion Scale were used as data collection tools. Data analysis showed that the compassion level of the preschool teachers was high whereas their fear of compassion level was low. It was also found that the compassion of preschool teachers did not differ significantly based on their gender, age, marital status, educational level, having children, having a pet, having someone to care for at home other than children and their place of residence. Emotional compassion level of preschool teachers who were married and had children was higher than the emotional compassion level of their colleagues who were single and did not have any children. Compassion level of teachers who had 6 to 10 year-professional seniority was significantly higher than their colleagues who had 0 to 5 year-professional seniority. It was found that the fear of compassion level of the preschool teachers did not differ significantly based on their demographic characteristics. Also, a negative significant relationship was found between preschool teachers' compassion and their fear of compassion. Based on the research findings, it can be suggested that, preschool teachers can be trained on compassion-based activities and compassion can be integrated into daily activities in preschool classrooms. Transfering their knowledege on compassion as a behavior to their classroom activities will help children to take those acts as a role model.

The study aims to determine the socio-demographic and debt profile of the public-school teachers in the Schools Division of Aklan, Philippines, their reasons on acquiring debt and perceived ways to avoid debts. This study utilized descriptive correlational research design utilizing a researcher-made instrument on socio-demographic profile, pattern of expenditures, debt profile covering the type of debts, total cost of debts, reasons for having debts and perceived ways to manage debts. The data gathered were tabulated and analyzed using the IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26. The take-home pay of the teachers was only more than half of their gross income. Most of the spouses of the married teachers were employed but many of them have relatively lower income. Their monthly family income was higher than the reported average family income for 2022 and their expenditures are also relatively higher than the average family expenditures in provinces for 2022. Almost one-half of the income of the teachers was used to pay their debts -- both thru automatic payroll deduction and thru personal transactions. The bigger the household size, the higher the expenditure because there were more needs and there were many people consuming commodities. The higher the family income, the bigger the expenditure since lifestyle often adjusts with income. Young; married teachers; those occupying higher position and longer tenure have higher cumulative debts. Increase in family expenditure could cause increase in the number of debts as linked to the Theory of Reasoned Action and Theory of Planned Behavior. High regard for education, health, and safety triggered teachers to have debts, which can only be avoided thru better money and lifestyle management and having additional source of income.

Aphasia therapy should address communication in everyday contexts. One type of social interaction that occurs frequently in the daily lives of spouses is joint decision-making. Currently, no known study has investigated how spouses collaboratively make decisions when one of the spouses has aphasia and the other one does not. The purpose of this study was to analyze the communicative interactions of married couples affected by aphasia while they engaged in joint decision-making conversations. Fourteen married couples, in which one spouse had aphasia and the other one did not, completed two joint decision-making tasks. The tasks required the participants to formulate mutually approved lists of items deemed essential for their survival in two hypothetical "survival-type" scenarios. When completing the tasks, the participants' communicative interactions were audio-video recorded. Next, the participants' conversations were transcribed, and their "moves" were coded for speech functions, as described in the systemic functional linguistics literature. Participants with aphasia produced fewer overall moves than the spouses without aphasia in their joint decision-making conversations. The participants with aphasia also produced fewer continuing moves than their spouses without aphasia. A slight difference between the participants with and without aphasia was identified in the percentages of opening versus sustaining moves produced. All participants were generally supportive of the comments, ideas, and suggestions posed by their spouses during their collaborative interactions. This study identified similarities and discrepancies in the pattern of speech functions used by the participants with and without aphasia. Suggestions for tailoring interventions and guiding future research are included.

This study was conducted to determine pregnant women's exposure to third-hand smoke, beliefs and influencing factors. The study included 400 pregnant women in a tertiary care obstetrics and gynecology hospital in Turkey. Data were collected using personal information form, Beliefs About Third-Hand Smoke Scale (BATHS-T) and Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence. 13.5% of the pregnant women smoked during pregnancy. However, 78.8% of the pregnant women were exposed to cigarette smoke at home. The mean score of BATHS-T scale and sub-scales increased in those whose spouses had university education or higher, and in pregnant women and their spouses who were public employees. The mean scores of BATHS-T scale and sub-scales were higher in pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy and in pregnant women with higher income levels. Community-based awareness of the effects of first, second and third-hand exposure to cigarette smoke on maternal and fetal health should be increased.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a brief and valid measure of family resilience for use in research with military families. Method: A population-based sample of military spouses (N = 16,379) completed assessments of family resilience and validation constructs. Participants were randomized into two subsamples. Subsample 1 was used in a factor analysis to reduce the number of items, whereas subsample 2 was used in a series of models to confirm the initial model and evaluate dimensionality, reliability, and validity. Results: Nine items were retained and demonstrated strong factor loadings (> 0.80) in the initial and confirmatory models. A bifactor model provided some evidence of multidimensionality, but not enough to dismiss the unidimensional construct. Brief measures of family resilience and its subconstructs demonstrated strong reliability and construct validity. Conclusions: The 9-item instrument is a reliable and valid tool that can be used to assess military family resilience in future research.

Teaching requires high levels of emotional involvement. This study investigated the relationship between work family conflict, emotional exhaustion, and perceived support (supervisor, co-workers, and spouse) among 375 female teachers who had young children and worked in urban public schools in Kenya. The study investigated whether (1) there was a relationship between work-family conflict and emotional exhaustion; (2) support from work (supervisor, co-workers) and family (spouse) ameliorated the emotional exhaustion that the teachers faced; and (3) support moderated the relationship between work-family conflict and emotional exhaustion. The survey results indicated that teachers' strain-based work interference with family was related to emotional exhaustion. Supervisor support was negatively related to emotional exhaustion, but co-workers' or spousal support was not; and supervisor support did not moderate the relationship between strain-based work interference with family and the emotional exhaustion that teachers experienced. The findings imply that supervisor support did not buffer teachers from experiencing high levels of stress either from work or emotional exhaustion. Schools should be sensitised to offer more support to teachers on how to reduce emotional exhaustion. Spouses should offer more support at home. Further studies should investigate how personal resources can mitigate emotional exhaustion. Work-family conflict and other dimensions of burnout should also be studied among teachers.

Many former university students on the autism spectrum have poor employment outcomes despite strengths, qualifications, and ability. This article presents findings from a qualitative study of 11 former university students on the spectrum (self-identified: 2 males, 7 females, 2 non-binary, 18-50+ years), and five significant others (2 mothers, 3 spouses), from Australia and New Zealand. We identified issues associated with better and poorer transition to employment experiences (poor mental health, lack of support, poor interview skills). The former students also indicated a belief that it was not the role of a university education to prepare students for employment. This belief may have influenced their discipline choices and attitude towards using career supports and university employability components. The participants who studied non-vocationally specific qualifications described more difficulty with conceptualising their transition to employment, developing an employment goal, and finding work. It was suggested that universities may need to provide comprehensive transition to employment programs that develop the 'soft skills' required for employment and offer work placements for both vocationally and non-vocationally oriented courses to help students build skills that increase their employability.

This study describes parents' daily "highs" and "lows" during their child's transition to school for the first time and examines how those experiences relate to turbulence in the parents' relationship. 106 parents (53 couples) rated their relationship qualities at pre-test and post-test and described "high" and "low" points of their day every three days for 42 days. Content analysis revealed experiences contributing to "high" or "low" points that were primarily related to: the child with ASD, the spouse, other children, personal situations, and other. Latent profile analysis identified three profiles that represented the relationship experiences of couples in the study: "resilient" couples, couples "getting by," and "asymmetrically engaged" couples. Results highlight the variety of daily experiences these parents encounter.

Background: This study examined how siblings and siblings-in-law of persons with intellectual disabilities experience the establishment of and processes within the couple relationship. Method: In-depth semi-structured interviews with 12 siblings and 12 siblings-in-law of persons with intellectual disabilities were analysed using thematic analysis. Results: The participants did not perceive their special siblinghood as detrimental to their couple relationships. Siblings-in-law's prior acquaintance with persons with disabilities and professional support provided to the family of origin emerged as contributing factors. The effect of the siblinghood on the couple relationship was both positive and negative. Conclusions: The findings support the importance of the acceptance of others who are different, including in couple relationships when a sibling or sibling-in-law has intellectual disabilities, and underscore the role of professional therapists.

This article introduces collective rationality and comparative advantage into understanding household financial decision-making responsibility allocation and its relationship to wealth accumulation. Evidence from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) shows that conscientiousness, memory, and numeracy are favorable personal attributes for household financial decision-making. Greater relative advantages in these attributes predict a higher probability of assuming financial responsibility. Households that assign the disadvantaged spouse as the financial decision-maker tend to have a lower total net worth and a lower financial net worth. Our results suggest that it is critical for financial planning professionals to engage both spouses in the initial discussion of household finances and to assess the efficiency of the status quo financial decision-making responsibility allocation.

In this study, we use the communication theory of identity (CTI) to analyze the disparate experiences of International Graduate Students (IGS) and their accompanying partners. In CTI, four layers constitute the concept of identity: (a) The way individuals see themselves ("personal"), (b) their communicative interaction through social roles ("relational"), (c) their construction of messages ("enactment"), and (d) their role within a group or social network ("communal"). Thus, CTI views identity as a communicative and relational phenomenon. We analyze the layers of identity of IGS and their spouses living in the United States and find that although there are some coincidences, individuals within the student-dependent dyad mostly do not follow a common path of re-construction of their identity frames. Each narrative reflects individual and dyads' struggles as they work to define their new identities. For this phenomenological study, we conduct individual in-depth interviews with 16 couples from 12 different countries.

The purpose of this article is to examine if educational homogamy patterns are associated intergenerationally, the extent to which today's couples are homogamous, and how this translates into levels of family income and financial and overall well-being. To examine these relationships, 28 years of longitudinal data from the British Columbia "Paths on Life's Way" project are employed. First, changes in marital status, educational completion, and homogamy are examined with the goal of defining these constructs more precisely. Through descriptive statistics, the relationship between educational attainment and related homogamy levels of Paths respondents and their parents is established. Then, the technique of correspondence analysis is used to determine the relationship between assortative mating and the nature and extent of inequality experienced by "Paths" respondents. Findings reveal that educational homogamy and its intergenerational associations exist and the extent to which it exacerbates inequality in terms of family income levels, contributions to registered investment plans, and physical, mental, and financial well-being in the sample. The findings of this article highlight the value of a post-secondary education in relation to marriage strategies, and the reproduction of inequalities.

The influence of digital technology and sociocultural adaptation is currently quickly changing society. Understanding the disparities between generations was necessary for moving on to the next generation together. The purposes of this research were to 1) study patterns of improving the quality of life of the elderly in different family styles, and 2) develop a curriculum of self-awareness in bringing the parenting skills of the aging population to early childhood using contemplative education. Data were collected by using questionnaires from 285 elderly northeast people in one province of Thailand, semi-structured interviews conducted with 22 elderly people. The curriculum of self-awareness used Delphi technique to assess its the appropriateness. Six key attributes were reported in learning participation, acceptance of original experiences, self-guided learning, critical thinking, action, and reflection. Elderly needed self-development for applying knowledge and skills to correct actual parenting situations.

The purpose of this study is to describe the politeness approach of the Japanese-Balinese family realm language. The study explores how the use of language politeness strategies is affected by the cultural background of both spouses in intercultural marriages. The study also examines the various factors that influence language politeness strategies in intercultural marriages, including age, gender, social status, and power dynamics. Ethnopragmatics is utilized to examine language politeness methods in the context of the lives of the Japan-Bali intermarriage group. The research design is qualitative and descriptive. It uses observation methodology with strategies for data collecting, including listening, recording, and interviewing. The basic data consists of conversations between Japanese ladies and families from Bali. The approach for data analysis involves identifying, classifying, and importing data. The residence of a Japanese woman who married a Balinese guy was tracked for one year in the Badung and Gianyar Regencies. They were analyzed using purposive sampling to assess the validity of the data. The study's findings indicated that the negative politeness strategy could not be implemented utilizing interrogative words, the bald on-record method, the off-record strategy, or the positive politeness strategy to the greatest extent possible. The findings of this study indicate that the circumstances of the situation and the culture of the speech participants assist the politeness technique. The contribution of this study to linguistic research on the politeness phenomenon of marriage between Japanese and Balinese can add to the characteristics of the results.

The COVID-19 pandemic quickly forced us to adapt to a new normal. As schools switched to distance learning, parents experienced increased childcare responsibilities and were thrust into new roles as teachers at home. This unexpected shift to new roles brought extraordinary disruption that becomes more challenging for families living apart, especially Korean families who represent more traditional beliefs. One of these values is to highly regard education. In this study, researchers explore the unique experiences of Korean mothers who were geographically distant from their spouses during the COVID-19 lockdown. Through interviews with the participant mothers with school-age children, researchers explore how the COVID-19 lockdown created changes in childcare and education involvement of Korean mothers.

In the past decades, marriage migrants in Asia, including Thai-Japanese couples, have increased. Previous literature predominantly focused on issues related to adaptation and integration for "foreign wives" into the host society underlining the hypergamous (marrying a spouse of a higher status) nature of their marriage, which renders the majority of husbands and non-hypergamous marriages understudied. Therefore, the current study focuses on a population that includes husbands and wives, Japanese migrants, and Thai spouses. This study is exploratory and employed a qualitative approach with snowball sampling, which resulted in the inclusion of five Thai nationals and three of their Japanese spouses raising children in Thailand as participants. The study aims to examine their educational decision-making, including the language used in each family and school choice, since the parenting process is a succession of adjustments in response to the conditions of society, where values are explicitly manifested. Data were collected through face-to-face or online interviews, and content analysis was used to clarify themes. Analysis revealed factors that relate educational decisions to preconditions, such as the place of the first encounter, socioeconomic status, and location of their home. Another prominent issue is the strong belief in the English language. All participants claim that their decisions were made unanimously, while their characteristics, high levels of education and overseas experience, the preference of Japanese spouses to live in Thailand, and their lack of knowledge about educational options in Thai society contribute to the rational recount of their decision-making process.

The main purposes of this study are to examine the effects of the psychoeducation programme structured on Masnavi stories based on positive psychology, prepared by the researcher, on marital harmony to improve this through a psychoeducational programme and to increase their satisfaction with life. The research was an experimental study based on "pre-test, post-test and follow-up test model with control group". Examined group of the research consisted of 14 married couples who lived in Istanbul and who agreed to participate voluntarily. Of the 14 married couples, seven pairs were assigned randomly to the experimental group and seven pairs to the control group. In order to reveal the effectiveness of the psychoeducational programme, "Spousal Harmony Scale" and "Personal Information Form", prepared by the researcher were taken by the couples before the first session. Couples in the control group were visited and they were given the scale and the form. While couples in the experimental group took 11 weeks of psychoeducational programme structured on "Masnavi" stories based on positive psychology, no such procedure was applied to the control group. The effectiveness of the programme was tested by applying the same measurement tools to the couples in the experimental and control groups before, during and after the experiment. The data were analysed by Wilcoxon rank sum test. According to the results of the research, the psychoeducational programme structured on "Masnavi" stories based on positive psychology was found to be effective in increasing the level of harmony (marital harmony, marital satisfaction, showing love and marital commitment) between the married couples. In addition to these results, it was seen that "Masnavi" of Mevlana, which had themes of positive psychology and metaphors, had a psychotherapeutic aspect. The results obtained were discussed with the relevant literature and theoretical and practical suggestions were made for different fields of application.

The purpose of this research is to reveal what kind of reactions academic mothers get from having a only child and their thoughts on having a child again. In this study, descriptive phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. The study group of research was composed of 9 academician mothers (32-51 age range; age range at marriage: 22-35; duration of the marriage; between 7-23 years) with an only child (5-25 age range), using the criterion sampling method, which is one of the purposive sampling methods. Inclusion criteria for the research; They are academicians who have a child of at least 5 years old and have only child. A semi-structured interview was used to collect the data. Content analysis was used to analyze the data collected. As a result of the analysis, the theme of "I wish he had a brother" was reached. As a result, it has been seen that academic mothers with one child are supported by their spouses to have one child; however, most of them want to have a second child. tap here to enter text.

This qualitative study explored parental perceptions regarding parent's choice of quality childcare centers in urban areas of Karachi, Pakistan. Sixteen participants were selected from two centers in different geographical areas. For parents, the most common reason for selecting the childcare centers was the lack of other available options such as family support. Availability and accessibility of childcare centers were reported as supporting factors, while lack of family support, lack of information, and violent city conditions were identified as barriers to choosing childcare centers. In addition, husband support was perceived as a facilitator and a barrier to choosing childcare centers.

There has been much effort in recent years to address some of the damage of the recent global financial crisis with financial literacy education. Little research has been done, however, on the factors that might affect the decision to seek individual versus couples-based financial education. We used a survey instrument administered via the online labor market, Mechanical Turk, to examine factors associated with this outcome: whether members of a couple would choose individual or couples financial coaching. All participants were screened for current membership in a committed relationship for at least 6 months. Most participants reported a preference for couples versus individual financial counseling. Key factors that predicted a likelihood to opt for couples' counseling include gender, age, and satisfaction with one's relationship. Results from this study suggest that how and why consumers seek financial education may be affected by social, cultural, emotional, and relational factors as well as financial concerns. Such factors should be considered by practitioners in this field if program marketing, design, and delivery are to be relevant to participants and effective.

Acculturative stress and strategies have been investigated with undergraduate international students in the United States. However, not much is known about scholars who come to the United States for advanced educational or career opportunities. Guided by Berry's (2006) acculturative stress coping adaptation theory, the current study explored lived experiences of CISs through longitudinal interviews. Inductive analysis revealed themes about stressors that challenged work-life balance. Three types of coping strategies for these stressors were identified: (a) grandparents' and spousal support, (b) mental strengths, and (c) planning ahead for the future of their family. Practical implications are discussed for supporting CISs. Findings of the current study expand our knowledge about CISs' challenges and strategies for maintaining work-life balance.

There is an increased belief in the benefits of information and communication technologies (ICT) in healthcare, but the perceived benefits of ICT in family caregiver support need to be explored. This qualitative interview study aimed to describe how family caregivers and healthcare staff in COPD care experience ICT. The results showed that both family caregivers and staff had limited interest in ICT and stated that it might be better for a new generation but not for themselves. Both groups preferred face-to-face meetings instead of contact via ICT. Meeting the needs of an ageing population will require that health services adopt new technologies. Still, the importance of eye contact must not be underestimated, particularly when encountering fragile patients and their spouses.

Graduate students often face choices about which resources to use to help them succeed in their programs. These choices likely differ among students, in part, due to different perceptions of resource value. However, little is known about why particular resources might be considered highly valuable to students, thus driving choice. Utilizing expectancy-value theory for help sources as our theoretical framework, this qualitative study explored life science (LS) graduate students' top three resource choices, their explanations about why they made those choices, and whether students' perceptions of value differed among resources and across demographic groups. We addressed two research questions: 1) What resources do LS graduate students consider to be the most important? 2) What drives LS graduate students' perceptions of resource value? Many participants indicated that "advisor" and "academic stipend" were most important. Student perceptions of value were driven by their perceptions of which needs resources fulfilled, such as basic needs, academic help, or support. Participants' top resource choices and underlying values of those resources did not differ among demographic groups. We propose a model for understanding graduate student resource choice that may inform future work on student outcomes.

Background: Group singing for people with Parkinson's disease (PD) is an established intervention not only to improve voice and speech difficulties but also for emotional and social benefit. Less is known about the experiences of group singing on the couple--the person with PD and their spouse or partner together--and studies have not specifically tracked impact through time or in combination with songwriting. Aims: To understand the impact of group singing/songwriting on couples (participants with PD and their spouses) to unpack whether this broader view might help explain why such interventions are reported as beneficial. Using a trajectory approach, a form of longitudinal research and focused ethnography, the research sought a deeper appreciation of participation through time for the couple in a singing/songwriting group. Methods & Procedures: Four couples attending a singing/songwriting programme were observed for 10 weeks, and interviewed formally and informally weekly. Data were analysed thematically across-case through framework analysis but also within-case to explore the couples' experiences and narratives over time. Outcomes & Results: The theme of 'improved relationships' between the couples was new and extended previous studies' findings of positivity, physical benefit, sense of self and social opportunity. The stories of each couple highlighted the importance of musical reminiscence and emotional respite, and demonstrated changes with time through the singing and songwriting group. Conclusions & Implications: The benefits of offering singing/songwriting groups may be felt not only by participants with PD but also by their spouses/partners even if they choose not to attend themselves. Such benefits may include improved relationships related to the shared joy of music, musical reminiscence and emotional respite. The addition of songwriting encourages creativity and agency. A longitudinal trajectory approach is one way to appreciate how these benefits may unfold over time for participants.

In almost all OECD countries, a significant proportion of students drop out of their studies and, despite a long tradition of research, the influence of a partnership has hardly been analyzed in this context. This paper examines whether the expectations and demands (the realistic and idealistic aspirations) of the partner influence the student's dropout intention. In a first step, relationships are investigated on the basis of a pooled data set. The results clearly show that there is a negative correlation such that when the partner has higher realistic aspirations the student is less likely to have high dropout intentions. In a second step, possible dynamics associated with the course of studies are considered. By means of fixed-effects regressions it can be shown that when the partner's realistic aspirations increase, the dropout intention decreases. This effect proves to be stable. With regard to idealistic aspirations, however, none of the models show negative effects. The analysis shows that the partner is important for the course of studies and should also be considered.

This study examined the mediating role of emotional intelligence and marital adjustment in the relationship between mindfulness and subjective well-being; interpersonal mindfulness in marriage and subjective well-being. 550 married individuals (370 female and 180 male) participated in this research. "Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale", "Mindfulness in Marriage Scale", "Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form", Marital Adjustment Test", "Positive and Negative Affect Scale", "Life Satisfaction Scale" and "Personal Information Form" were used in this research. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and path analyses, which is one of the structural equation model technics, were used for data analyses. Correlation analysis results showed that there was positively correlation between mindfulness, interpersonal mindfulness in marriage, emotional intelligence, marital adjustment and subjective well-being. Path analysis result showed that emotional intelligence fully mediated the relationship between mindfulness and subjective well-being. Besides, emotional intelligence and marital adjustment partially mediated the relationship between mindfulness in marriage and subjective well-being and model explained 51.00% of total variance of subjective well-being. The results of the research were discussed in the light of literature and suggestions were presented.

This study investigated whether married individuals' relational humor styles were significant predictors of their marital satisfaction levels. The study was conducted with a total of 228 married participants (139 women and 89 men). The duration of marriage of the participants ranged from 1 to 46 years (M = 9.34, SD = 10.37). The data were obtained by using the Marital Life Scale and Relational Humor Inventory. The data were tested with multiple regression analysis supported by bootstrapping process. According to the regression results, self-positive and self-negative relational humor styles significantly predicted their own marital satisfaction. On the other hand, self-instrumental humor did not predict marital satisfaction significantly. Otherwise, marital satisfaction was significantly predicted by partner-positive, partner-negative, and partner-instrumental humor styles. The findings obtained in the study were discussed in accordance with the related literature and suggestions were made for the following studies.

This study aimed to identify the impact of emotional divorce and its relationship with psychological hardiness for a sample of married female students at Yarmok University. It also aimed at recognizing the differences between those students impacted by emotional divorce in light of certain factors, namely the duration of marriage, the family's monthly salary and the husband's educational level. The researchers used a questionnaire as the study instrument that consisted of a thirty-item emotional divorce scale and a thirty-one-item psychological hardiness scale. The researchers found that by using the statistical analysis of means and standard deviations, three- way ANOVA analysis, and Pearson Correlation Coefficient, the level of emotional divorce among married female students at Yarmok University was low. Unexpectedly, the level of psychological hardiness among the married female students was high. In addition, the study results showed that there is a negative statistical relationship between emotional divorce and psychological hardiness for married female students at Yarmok University.

This study examines how parents' marital relations and the explicit and implicit messages conveyed by mothers to their children about their fathers affect father-child relationships. A homogeneous sampling method was used to select as the participants nine women and seven men, aged 18-20 (x = 18.88), all of whom were students in the Departments of Turkish Language (N=6), Mathematics (N=5), and Psychological Counseling at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey. The data were collected using the semi-structured, in-depth interviewing technique and were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenology Analysis. This study identified three overarching themes as part of the analysis: (i) children's varying interpersonal boundary relationships with their parents, (ii) relationship issues in the parents' marriage which affect the father-child relationship, and (iii) inconsistency in the messages conveyed by mothers regarding the fathers. The findings are explained within the contexts of Turkish culture, family therapies, and the extent literature on fatherhood.

The main idea behind single-sex schooling is to reduce the interaction with the opposite sex for better academic, social and emotional development in a belief that this safe environment will eliminate destruction arrived created from opposite-sex classmates. In fact, single-sex schooling results in a decrease in the likelihood of attending the party and having romantic relationships at adolescence (Cardona, Kaufmann, 2017). But, does this perpetuate better outcomes in the short and long run for participants of this schooling type is an abiding interest in many studies? Debates over the pros and cons of single-sex schooling are widespread and some papers are taking an ideological stand, and holding upon polarizing views (Gordillo, 2017). Gordillo (2017) analyzed some meta-analysis studies and found that these papers did not include valuable research papers with opposing findings which give doubtful conclusions. Most of the existing studies evaluated the academic attainment of single-sex school students and comparative analyses are done to cross-analyze with coeducational students' achievement. This paper, on another hand, focuses on how single-sex school graduates find it challenging their relationship with the opposite sex in mixed-sex spaces in the post-school period. This study particularly focused upon challenges in relationships with individuals of the opposite sex at university, work-space and with the spouse. The study is taken place at Kazakhstan's educational foundations which run both single-sex and coeducational schools. Findings reveal graduates of single-sex schools have not faced significant challenges in relationships with the opposite sex at university, work-space, and spouse compared to coeducational school graduates.
