Abstract Background Periodontal disease is the most common oral health problem among individuals living with disabilities. Any physical impairment and/or mental handicap can compromise the capability to perform oral health care. Individuals with poor oral hygiene practice were prone to dental caries, periodontal disease, and upper respiratory tract infections. Despite the high prevalence of disabled people in Ethiopia, data are scarce about their periodontal status. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and determinant factors of periodontal disease among students living with disability in the Amhara region. Methods A school-based cross-sectional study was done on eight special needs schools in Amhara regional state from November 30, 2020, to April 10, 2021. A simple random sampling technique using a computer random generator was employed to recruit the study participants. The participants were interviewed for sociodemographic characteristics, oral hygiene practice, type of disability, and medical condition through a pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire. The periodontal status of the participants was evaluated using the community periodontal index (CPI). Data entry was done using the Epi-data and analyzed using SPSS 26. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to identify the predictors of periodontal disease at a 5% level of significance. Results A total of 443 study participants were involved with a mean age of 15.84 ± 3.882. Among these, 27.5% (95%CI 23.4–32.0) had a periodontal pocket depth of ≥ 4 mm, and 56.7% had bleeding on probing. The prevalence of periodontal disease was higher in participants with poor oral health status (52.2%), dental caries (34.8%), class-2 malocclusion (46.1%), and low monthly income (30.4%), visually impaired (30%), and mentally disorder (29.9%). Age of above 18 years (AOR = 3.41, 95%CI 1.40, 8.28), low family monthly income (AOR = 2.21; 95%CI 1.22, 4.03), malocclusion (AOR = 1.59, 95%CI 1.01, 2.54), poor oral health status (AOR = 9.41; 95%CI 4.92, 17.98), and dental caries (AOR = 1.85, 95%CI 1.21, 2.82) were independent predictors of periodontal disease. Conclusions A substantial amount of disabled school students in the study area had periodontal disease. The study found that there was a statistically significant association between age, family monthly income, malocclusion, oral health status, and dental caries with periodontal disease. The implementation of school oral health programs has a great benefit for the oral health status of disabled school students.

The article discusses the impact of the migrant influx on the town of Whitewater, Wisconsin. It highlights the challenges faced by the school district, particularly in terms of educational outcomes, due to the increase in special-needs, economically disadvantaged, and English-learner students, who are often migrant children. This has led to a decline in educational achievement and prompted some parents to enroll their children elsewhere. The article also presents contrasting perspectives, with one resident expressing frustration at being labeled as racist for their concerns, while another emphasizes the positive contributions and diversity brought by immigrants to the community. There are many children with special needs whose siblings play an important role in their lives for a longer time than other family members. Longer life expectancy and the deepening of disabilities bring along a higher need of being taken care of. When the parents grow older it is often the siblings who become the caretakers. Meyer & Vadasy (2007) found that if siblings of children with SEN get proper support and information while growing up, the well-being of siblings with special needs also increases. Relationship with a sibling with special needs influences development of adaptability and self-esteem, this influence can be positive or negative (Burke, 2008). The parents of the children with SEN have many ways to receive information or help from the family – doctors, therapists, consultants, teachers, books, etc. The siblings in their turn usually get their information from the parents. (Conway & Meyer, 2008) Family members of different ages need different information. Therefore, there should be research on what kind of experiences do the siblings of the disabled child need, how their needs and well-being are guaranteed, and what kind of support they need. The aim of this study is to describe the experiences of brothers and sisters with siblings with special needs, try to understand their need for support, and find out the need for support groups and camps.

VICTIMS of bullying , *BULLYING , *CHILDREN'S health , *DISABILITIES , *MULTIVARIATE analysis - Abstract
Aim: The purpose of this analysis was to examine the influence of weight and disability status on rates of bullying victimisation and perpetration among youth. Methods: Data from the 2016 National Survey of Children's Health, which included 2716 youth (aged 10-17) with and 23 195 without disabilities in the USA were utilised. Parent-reported measures of height and weight, bullying perpetration and victimisation, and demographic covariates analysed. Descriptive statistics, and multivariable logistic regressions with outcomes of bullying perpetration and victimisation, were generated. Results: In the multivariate analysis, overweight (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.26, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.04-1.52), obesity (aOR = 2.25, 95% CI 1.83-2.77) and having a disability (aOR = 3.25, 95% CI 2.69-3.92) were related to greater odds of bully victimisation. Both obesity (aOR = 1.62, 95% CI 1.10-2.74) and disability (aOR = 2.74, 95% CI 2.00-3.75) were also related to greater odds of bully perpetration in the multivariate model; overweight status was not related to bully perpetration. Conclusions: Weight status was identified as a characteristic that may increase the risk of bullying victimisation, above and beyond disability. This analysis helps identify that youth with disabilities who are overweight or obese have greater risk factors for bullying and are in need of interventions to ameliorate bullying. Oral health is perhaps the most neglected aspect of healthcare for persons living in rehabilitation centers, compared to the general population. The caregivers play a vital role in administering daily oral care to residents in rehabilitation centers: The aim of the present questionnaire-based study was to evaluate the caregivers’ knowledge, attitude and practices towards oral healthcare at centers for the intellectually disabled in the Southern region of Saudi Arabia (SA). The present study was designed as a cross-sectional one-point time survey. The samples were selected by using a non-probability convenience sampling method. The self-administered closed-ended questionnaire comprised of 22 items divided into four sections, which was designed to elicit the demographic information, awareness of oral care, attitude towards oral health and practice of the oral healthcare regime among the participants. Of the164 participants, 53.0% and 47.0% were male and female, respectively. Most of the participants—54.9%—were between 30–39 years of age. Participants were almost equally distributed between educational groups, and about 87% had more than 2 years of experience. A brief overview showed a fair level of knowledge and attitude among 61.6% and 58.5% of respondents, respectively. Participants with an education level above that of high school showed good knowledge and attitude scores (p < 0.05), whereas females showed better attitude scores compared to the males (p < 0.05). Respondents mentioned the difficulties they faced while treating the subjects. The special healthcare workers generally had acceptable oral health knowledge and practices. Caregivers who had lower education levels should be advised for training programs that addressed the importance of oral health services.

This study aimed to evaluate and analyse the results of mathematics learning about the concept of multiplication in students with hearing impairment. In this study, the team-games-tournament (TGT) method was used to teach the concept of multiplication to seven students with hearing impairment in an elementary school at the Special School in Cimahi through four stages of learning, namely: 1) pretest presentation, 2) learning presentation with the TGT method, and 3) posttest presentation. The results of the study showed that there was a significant increase in the ability to learn multiplication concepts using the TGT method. Therefore, the TGT method could be a suitable choice of learning method used in learning the multiplication concept for students with hearing impairment because, through the TGT method, students collaborate and teach each other in-game activities, that make the students understand the concept of multiplication easier, thus improve students' ability to learn the concept of multiplication. This research is important because it provides information about the use of new and unique media or learning methods that can be used to improve students' abilities, especially students with hearing impairments in the mathematics learning process.

- Abstract
Objectives and Significance: Meeting friends, mastering challenges and finding quiet places to relax are some of the occupations children describe they do on playgrounds. However, children with disabilities often report that they are excluded from play occupations on outdoor playgrounds. Similar, persons involved in the design of playgrounds report to encounter barriers from community attitudes and lack of knowledge when aiming to build inclusive playgrounds. Furthermore, even though according to the United Nations Rights of the Child playgrounds should be designed to be accessible for everybody and to apply Universal Design to enhance social inclusion, this is rarely done in practice. The potential impact of the thesis is to provide new knowledge about the design of inclusive playgrounds informed by the perceptions of children with diverse needs, people involved in playground design and experts in Universal Design to enhance play value and social inclusion on playgrounds. Method: Different qualitative methods, including individual interviews, focus groups, a meta-ethnography and a DELPHI study, will be applied. Data will be analysed with qualitative content analysis and thematic analysis. Impact / Results: Overall, preliminary results from children’s and adults’ perspectives let assume that the social environment plays an important role for inclusive playgrounds to become places of social inclusion. Conclusion / Outcomes: When designing inclusive playgrounds, the social aspects of the environment need to be addressed together with the physical environment in order to build a playground for all.

Humans are needy creatures. It is beyond possible for them to live their life alone. Humans need air, water and food. They need a spouse, friend, mother, father, neighbor or child. They are in need of seeking and finding a shoulder to cry on. Every individual has similar and different needs. These needs become more evident in individuals with special needs. Individuals with special needs are a reality of societies from past to present. Individuals with special needs constitute approximately 12% of the world population. Statistics show that the population density of our country is around the world population. It is at a level that will make a significant contribution and influence to the peace and happiness of the society in which the individuals with special needs live in peace and happiness. Considering the families of the individuals with special needs, the number of positive and negative approaches on the society increases. From time to time, individuals can live in siege within the flowing life conditions. While walking through this siege, a blind spot is formed against individuals with special needs and needs cannot be seen. This is an important problem. In this respect, it is important to remind the responsibilities towards individuals with special needs and to re-update the issue with different perspectives. In this study, towards individuals with special needs and their relatives, The example of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) will be tried to be conveyed., İnsan başkalarının yardımına muhtaç bir varlıktır. Peygember’in örnekliği aktarılmaya çalışılacaktır.

- Abstract
Background: With advances in safety measures for anesthesia, conscious sedation has gained popularity in the field of dentistry and has become essential in dental practice worldwide. However, in Tanzania, intravenous (IV) sedation is rarely practiced in the dental field. Therefore, we report the establishment of sustainable IV conscious sedation in dental practices and subsequently train local OMS residents in Tanzania., Methods: In 2019, intravenous conscious sedation was initiated at the University Dental Clinic of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Science (MUHAS), Tanzania. During the preparatory phase of the program, local oral and maxillofacial surgeons (OMSs) were given a series of lecture notes that concentrated on different aspects of IV conscious sedation in dentistry. During the on-site training phase, an oral surgeon from the United States joined the OMSs for case selection, IV-conscious sedation procedures, and patient follow-up. Patients were recruited from existing patient records at the MUHAS Dental Clinic., Results: The first conscious IV sedation program in dentistry was successfully launched at the University Dental Clinic in Tanzania. The local team of OMSs was trained on the safe administration of sedative agents (midazolam or ketamine) to perform various minor surgical procedures in a dental office. Nine patients with different ages, body masses, and medical conditions benefited from the training. No complications were associated with IV conscious sedation in the dental office., Conclusion: This was the first successful "hands-on" training on IV conscious sedation provided to OMSs in Tanzania. It laid the foundation for the sustainable care of patients with special needs requiring oral health-related care in the country., Competing Interests: CONFICT OF INTEREST: The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest in relation to this article., (Copyright © 2023 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine.)

- Abstract
This article has the general objective to verify the accessibility of academics with a disability or reduced mobility in a teaching center of a Federal Public University of Santa Catarina. To meet this goal, there are this specific objectives: Check for people with disabilities or reduced mobility; Verify the sustainability of accessibility with a disabled and propose a summary management plan - 5W2H for the deficit issues. The 5W2H is an objective management tool and consists of seven questions to answer to the deficit issues. It is noteworthy that can be used for decision making about issues found after the calculation of sustainability. The methodology of the aims is considered descriptive and exploratory. With regard to the technical procedures this is a case study. The approach to the problem is characterized as qualitative. In the end it was concluded that the overall sustainability of the accessibility obtained the 48.8% rate, considered "regular", "only serves legislation". Thus, it is understood that people according to the law in Brazil have the right to study and all institutions need to provide access and use of environments for people with disabilities or reduced mobility. As a process of continuous improvement the 5W2H suggests as one of the actions: increasing the number of restrooms for accessibility within what the law provides. The study covers analysis of the ten dimensions for evaluation of courses by INEP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The technological innovations of the last decade have caused countless changes to everyone's lifestyle, especially in the number of hours spent in front of a screen. These generational differences are even more marked if the new generations of students are taken into consideration, in fact, even at the school level, technological innovations have brought changes. Just as lifestyle and teaching have changed, what is considered as the "needs" of pupils and how they live and relate both in formal and informal environments have also changed. Considering the emergency period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, greater attention has been paid to the importance of exercising and everyone has also re-evaluated the beauty and benefits of exercising outdoors. Outdoor Movement Education in this sense can be a key that allows the new generations to experience the emotions and sensations that can be felt during outdoor moving activities. This work is a reflection on how technology can be a tool to increase the benefits in Outdoor Movement Education considering children and youth with special needs. The results of this work have shown how the use of technology in Outdoor Movement Education brings numerous advantages both under the didactic profile (i.e., life skills) and with regard to the cognitive (i.e., attention and concentration), motor (i.e., motor skills, fundamental movement skills) and affective (i.e., enjoyment) domains of learning respectively.

Oral health is perhaps the most neglected aspect of healthcare for persons living in rehabilitation centers, compared to the general population. The caregivers play a vital role in administering daily oral care to residents in rehabilitation centers: The aim of the present questionnaire-based study was to evaluate the caregivers&rsquo, knowledge, attitude and practices towards oral healthcare at centers for the intellectually disabled in the Southern region of Saudi Arabia (SA). Most of the participants&mdash, 54.9%&mdash, were between 30&ndash, 39 years of age. Participants were almost equally distributed between educational groups, and about 87% had more than 2 years of experience. A brief overview showed a fair level of knowledge and attitude among 61.6% and 58.5% of respondents, respectively. Participants with an education level above that of high school showed good knowledge and attitude scores (p <, 0.05), whereas females showed better attitude scores compared to the males (p <, 0.05). Respondents mentioned the difficulties they faced while treating the subjects. The special healthcare workers generally had acceptable oral health knowledge and practices. Caregivers who had lower education levels should be advised for training programs that addressed the importance of oral health services.

This paper attempts to illuminate a central concept and idea in special education discourse, namely, 'special needs'. It analyses philosophically what needs are and on what grounds they are defined as 'special' or 'exceptional'. It also discusses whether sorting needs into ordinary and special is discriminatory. It is argued that individualistic tendency in special need rhetoric has serious shortcomings, although it does not inevitably lead to discrimination against those with 'special needs'. Improving individuals' capabilities as well as social conditions are the means to create societies and schools which are inclusive, and which put justice into practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: West Syndrome is a rare epileptic encephalopathy involving infantile spasms, altered electroencephalographic pattern with hypsarrhythmia, and psychomotor development delay. It arises in paediatric patients, generally within the first year of life, in symptomatic or idiopathic form depending on the presence of hereditary features or not. Case report: In this report it is described the case of a West syndrome patient affected by multiple caries, gingival enlargement, dental eruption abnormalities, high-arched palate and MIH, treated at the dental clinic of University of Bari “Aldo Moro”. Discussion: West patients present with multiple oral abnormalities, including altered eruption timing, teeth agenesis, teeth shape and position abnormalities, plaque and calculus accumulation, malocclusions and bad oral habits (mouth breathing, nails biting). Conclusion:: West Syndrome patients’ oral hygiene is generally bad due to their motor difficulty and to their low compliance towards dentists, which entails general anaesthesia to perform dental treatment. West Syndrome pharmacological treatment is usually based on antiepileptic drugs and/or ACTH. These medications are well known for their ability to induce gingival enlargement, increasing the possibility of plaque accumulation and gingivitis development.

Fem förskollärare deltog i studien. The study examines preschool teachers’ description of children in need of special support in relation to the preschool educational activities. The purpose is to pre-school teacher's approach to children in need of special support from a socio-cultural perspective. The purpose of analyzing the basis of the study’s three questions: What needs do the preschool teachers describe as the reason for the child to be given special support? What conditions do the preschool teachers have to provide support to the child once they identified the need? The study was conducted on two different preschools. Five preschool teachers participated in the study. As a method of data collection the interviews were recorded using a voice recorder. Research shows that children in need of special support, is a complex concept that is difficult to define. The socio-cultural perspective dominates as a common approach in preschools where children's development and learning are based outside thinking on the competent child. From a historical perspective, special education has been characterized by a traditional approach where the child is seen as bearers of their difficulties and shortcomings. Nowadays the alternative approach is highlighted in preschool. Special needs of the child are seen as social constructions where the issues are removed from the individual. Pre-school will adapt based on individual needs. The result shows that preschool teachers have different perceptions of what children considered to be in need of special support. The respondents show in their statements that they meet children with different support needs each day, but none of the children are defined as a child in need of special support. Support efforts depends on the preschool teacher conditions, for example, experiences, attitudes, work procedure, guidance and more. The conclusion is that there is a risk that the preschool teachers miss relevant information at the handover to the school on educational support measures and adjustments when the individual is not pronounced as a child in need of special support. Children in need of special support critically viewed from preschool teachers' attitudes and practices. Support activities in preschool depends on preschool teachers' conditions, for example, experiences, attitudes, practices, tutorials and more.

The special educational needs require special attention and that's why we really have to innovate in the care of these special needs. We have incorporated elements of the idiosyncrasies of the Andalusian non-formal education for these students . In 2014, the Andalusian Government establishes legal measures for the inclusion of flamenco in the education system in the region. Therefore we consider necessary to answer this legislation and we propose actions for the intervention of special educational needs through this artistic discipline. The intervention program we propose is called "Sensitive Flamencoterapia " and integrates the flamenco dance, as an informal discipline, school educational institutions in primary education. The objective of this program is to promote the psychomotor , cognitive and social - emotional development of students with special educational needs.

The main purpose of this work is to analyse how teachers perceive and deal withdiversity, where they put the limit between «normality» and «otherness», how theyrelate to the documentation proceeding from public institutions.Using an ethnographic methodology based on participant observation and semistructuredinterviews, I shall apply Pierre Bourdieu's theories about social reproductionand distinction to a high school in Skåne, with the purpose of better understanding thedifference between change and reconversion in dealing with «otherness» in the form of«learning disabilities».This study aims at better understanding how «otherness», «diversity», and «plurality»are categorized, hierarchically organized, considered as «distortions», «defects»,«syndromes» to be cured, when instead they could actually constitute means toovercome the ancestral «fear of the other», the rejection of «complexity» and to fill theperceived gap between theory and practice, between the «school of diversity andplurality» and the school of «kunskapsmål», «performance», «driven-ness», bothpresent in the current Läroplan (LPF-94) and likely to be found in the new one. Finally, this analysis tries to point at the necessity to question the unquestionable. Thatis, to question the values that are considered to be established for good and foreverybody, understanding them as historical products, not as philosophical a priori. Farfrom being historical invariables, those values and principles are the result of actualpolitical fights, even of revolutions, and of debates occurred for centuries or evenmillennia. School has been focusing on having them internalised and naturalised, instead of developing adequate instruments to let them be critically understood, reflected upon, talked about, and of course experienced in their many contexts. The study's main result lies in individuating the structural and individual factors thatallow the teachers to deal with «otherness» and «diversity» as a problem instead as aresource, underlining the symbolic violence implicit in the process of naturalisation ofvalues and principles.

Dvije dominantne među njima – individualna i socijalna – propituju inkluziju (točnije, njezine učinke) u odnosu spram života pojedinca i društva. Ovim odabirom želi se ukazati na postojanje nekritičke (a katkad i neadekvatne) uporabe navedenih termina čija implicitna i eksplicitna značenja imaju različite reperkusije na život pojedinca., Recent pedagogical literature shows that there is no unique understanding of the concept of inclusion, but numerous perspectives that are often unclear and contradictory. Two prominent perspectives – the individual and the social – explore inclusion (or rather, its effects) in terms of the existence of an individual and a society. From the point of view of the individual perspective inclusion is interpreted as involving special needs children into everyday life, which implies normalisation and assimilation. The social perspective on inclusion, although explicitly focused onto the wellbeing of the individual, simultaneously maintains a subordinated position of special needs. In spite of the efforts to change the terminology according to current scholarly insights about the nature of special needs, the terminology continues to be used without thoroughly considering its meaning. This paper proposes an epistemological approach as one of the possible approaches to understanding the concepts of inclusion and special needs with the purpose of drawing attention to the existence of uncritical (and sometimes inadequate) application of the said concepts whose implicit and explicit meanings have various ramifications for the life of an individual., Die Einsicht in die rezente pädagogische Literatur lässt die Schlussfolgerung zu, dass es keine einheitliche Sicht auf die Inklusion gibt, sondern mehrere Perspektiven, die oft unklar und gegensätzlich sind.
