As intensive motherhood is considered as the most influential contemporaneous maternal model, especially in Western societies, but also in other parts of the world, a succinct exploration of the cultural genealogy of this concept is carried out, with the purpose to shed light on its past and present meanings and effects for women. Navigating through the sets of social values, norms and expectations formed in different stages of the history regarding the role of women, we become more able to assess the current implications of intensive motherhood not only for working women, but also in terms of social and gender relations, focusing our attention both on the strengths and to the possible negative implications of the concept. After independence, early decades in the Indian capital city were marked by ceremonials, demonstrations and politico-religious addresses. The enthusiasm of the nascent state trying to forge a shared public sphere was dampened by voices of dissent from different opposition groups. These voices took the form of demonstrations and sit-ins in New Delhi, especially around the Parliament Street. Thus, challenging elected government's use of space for functional and ceremonial purposes through such acts. However, the government, in order to contain protesting publics, could not continue to deploy the measures of colonial crowd control, and had to come up with means suitable for its democratic setup. Over years these contestations regarding defining use of public spaces between state and public(s) resulted in the development of guidelines and defining of designated sites of protest. In this view, the purpose of this paper is to contribute toward understanding of New Delhi's space post-1947 and explain how certain demonstrations led to shaping of the government's approach regarding protest sites. The same will be done by bridging the gap between spatial and socio-cultural theorists to study the capital city beyond its architectural grandeur and theoretical claims about public space. Overall, the paper is organized into four parts: the first section explores the idea of public space in the national capital with focus on importance of the Parliament House; the second and third sections study specific sites like Boat Club, Ramlila Maidan and Jantar Mantar in association with protests like JP Movement; and the final part looks at the evolution of government guidelines and the emergence of contained protest sites. Schoolteachers and the Nordic Model examines the cultural distinctiveness of the Nordic teaching profession and teacher training compared to examples from Europe and North America. The book explores the concept of these ‘teacher cultures’ as various dimensions of professional identities, recruitment patterns, teachers’ social status, values and knowledge. It considers how Nordic teachers´ socio-cultural backgrounds and their shifting societal roles compare with continental European examples, analysing the societal consequences of teacher cultures for the current Nordic welfare states. Offering a unique focus on teachers, the book uses a shared comparative and historical approach to add new knowledge to the analysis of global convergence and divergence in educational systems. The book will be of great interest to researchers, scholars and post-graduate students in the fields of comparative education, educational policy, the sociology of education and the history of education. It will also be of interest to policy makers, teacher educators and school leaders.

- Abstract
Party politics in West Bengal is a complex and ever-evolving phenomenon deeply rooted in the state's socio-cultural history. This overview explores the dynamic landscape of party politics in West Bengal, tracing its historical evolution and examining the key players, ideological underpinnings, electoral strategies, and socio-economic factors that have influenced voter preferences over the years. From the pre-independence era's freedom struggle to the contemporary political dynamics dominated by the All-India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), West Bengal's political journey reflects its vibrant cultural mosaic and socio-political complexities. This paper also discusses the current scenario in West Bengal, highlighting the role of various political parties in recent local and assembly elections. The methodology involves a comprehensive review of academic papers and journals on various aspects of West Bengal's politics, governance, and societal dynamics. While existing literature touches on governance-related aspects like healthcare policies, decentralisation, and power sector reforms, there is a research gap in integrating these elements to provide a holistic assessment of West Bengal's governance model. The paper identifies this research gap and calls for a more comprehensive study that explores the interplay of political decisions, decentralisation efforts, and policy reforms in shaping the state's development and governance outcomes.

This work intends to explore the nature of socio-political change in historical periods usually referred to as interregnal which, for the purposes of this paper, is defined as a period of discontinuity or gap in political and social organization. It traces the survival of a historical monument through two interregnal centuries of medieval Indian sub-continental history (11th–12th and 14th) to argue that modern historiographical templates which study these periods as precursors or remnants of succeeding and preceding centuries, respectively, do not sufficiently explore the socio-political possibilities innate in these periods of distributed political agency. In the context of Indian history, while historians have focused on the confrontational aspect of Hindu-Muslim polities or communities in interregnal centuries, I suggest that these periods provided fertile ground for political innovation and negotiation, thus breaking the confrontational stasis usually associated with regnal centuries. This paper aims to bring into the public's attention a book that was published over a decade ago, "Reconceptualizing the Social: Writing Social History in East Central Europe". While it has received some international attention, the book has had little echo in the Romanian space, due to the fact social history is still in its infancy, thus, the debates about theories, paradigms and research methodologies in the field of social history have not been in the foreground of scientific debate in the post-communist era. Given these considerations, we find it most appropriate to review this collection of studies since in the last decade, more and more Romanian scholars have taken interest in the interdisciplinary historical research. We hope that bringing into the spotlight books such as Iordachi's collection might further spark the interest for theoretical and methodological debates regarding the Romanian research in the field of social history. - Abstract

The article examines the socio-cultural aspects of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Library functioning in the 1770–80s. The focus is on acquiring the books as a purposeful way to form a collection of books that best demonstrated the monastery’s needs for books, interests and reading tastes of the fraternity. The author attempts to reconstruct the network of «book agents»: people who assisted in books acquisition; determine who was the initiator and who was the implementer of procurement; specify the needs in the printed books, as well as whether printed books completely displaced the manuscripts at the end of the 18th century. The author discovers the interest of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in replenishing the book collection not only to meet the readers’ needs of the fraternity but also based on the understanding of the importance of a well-stocked library to confirm the status of the monastery. It has been established that the «book agents» were the Lavra attorneys in Moscow and St. Petersburg, who carried out various assignments of the monastery; former Lavra monks transferred to other dioceses; or persons loyal to Lavra, specifically involved for this purpose. There is interest in translated literature, periodicals, new publications, and activity in the purchase of printed materials, which generally signals changes in the reading practices of the monastic corporation. The analysis of the repertoire of purchased books confirmed the spread of the ideas of the Enlightenment and the growing demand for secular and educational books on science and nature. The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, while remaining quite traditional in the segment of theological literature, where Latin continued to dominate, demonstrated openness to new trends in book culture of the second half of the 18th century.,

11. LA PSICOANALISI RUSSA FRA MARGINALITÀ E ASSIMILAZIONE (1904-1930).

- Abstract
The present research is an attempt to write the initial pages of a study on the social and cultural history of psychoanalysis in Russia. While the swift spread in Russia of Freudian thought and methods is well known, what is little known are the causes of its rapid diffusion. The evolution of how Freud's methods became diffused in Russia is examined against the background of the socio-economical processes that were changing Russian society between the XIX and XX century, and that were acting in synergy with the intense cultural life of the Silver Age. From this scenario, psychoanalysis emerges as an outcome and interpreter of the bourgeois culture, which has had started taking shaping during the time of the Big Reforms, and had been spreading among the intelligentsia. The evolution of Russian psychoanalysis is also seen as following the dialectic model of marginality/assimilation, which was applied by Zaretsky to European and American societies in order to see the limits of its application to Russian reality. The Freudian method, born at the beginning of the century as a marginal and elitist phenomenon in Czarist Russia, becomes the object of a process of assimilation on behalf of the state, after the October revolution, and which aims at using it in order to forge, 'homo sovieticus'. - Abstract
In the history of film adaptations of the novel María (Isaacs, 1867), to experimental and iconoclastic film María (Grau, 1966) it is identified as belonging to the uncanonical trend or subversion and background to the position presented in the Colombian culture field. The article continues with a detailed analysis of the characteristics of narratives and stylistics to determine the semantic level in which it operates its proposal to adjust and, from print and oral records related to the film, their conditions of production, circulation and reception are studied. This analysis shows how a uncanonical position before the novel is built from multiple levels of meaning, determining their place in literary and film fields in Colombia in the 1960s and presenting new clues to understanding the place of the experimental theater in the history of Colombian cinema. This study attempts to provide a socio-cultural historiography of television in Turkey that addresses how people experience television in everyday life, as a social and cultural tool, and how it is integrated into the social development process. Unlike media history studies in this field, the history of television in Turkey is examined in this study along with the process of social development, and the history of television is handled through everyday activities. In this setting, first-person accounts of watching television that were gathered from in-depth interviews with Turkish television viewers during the field study were combined with news and media texts from the era's newspapers and magazines that covered the start of television broadcasting. As a result of the study, a cultural-historical narrative about television in Turkey as a social experience emerged., Bu çalışmada Türkiye’de televizyonun sosyo-kültürel tarih anlatısı oluşturulmaya çalışılmaktadır.

- Abstract

Russian Psychoanalysis: between marginality and assimilation (1904-1930) The present research is an attempt to write the initial pages of a study on the social and cultural history of psychoanalysis in Russia. While the swift spread in Russia of Freudian thought and methods is well known, what is little known are the causes of its rapid diffusion. The evolution of how Freud’s methods became diffused in Russia is examined against the background of the socio-economical processes that were changing Russian society between the XIX and XX century, and that were acting in synergy with the intense cultural life of the Silver Age. The Freudian method, born at the beginning of the century as a marginal and elitist phenomenon in Czarist Russia, becomes the object of a process of assimilation on behalf of the state, after the October revolution, and which aims at using it in order to forge, “homo sovieticus”.

This article analyzes how and why the editors ofO Pasquim resurrected Madame Satã from obscurity in the early 1970s and promoted him as an exotic and nostalgic representation of Carioca bohemia of the 1930s. Madame Satã's overt declarations of homosexuality and his malandro persona captured the imagination of Rio's modernday bohemians of the Zona Sur who could embrace his masculine bravado at the same time that the editors made fun of and rejected the emergent gay and feminist movements that were beginning to take hold in Brazil.

During the formation of the imperial state of Brazil, the issue of language tinged the discussions on nationality and representations on social and racial mixing. This essay discusses aspects of the polemic over Brazil's national language in the mid-nineteenth century, based on three articles: "A Response", by Joaquim Caetano Fernandes Pinheiro, "The Brazilian Language", by Joaquim Norberto de Sousa e Silva, and a "Brazilian Poetry", by Juan Valera, all published in the literary and scientific magazineGuanabara (Rio de Janeiro, 1849-1856). The analysis permits the uncovering of the political, social and cultural tensions involved in the process of the formation of a national language.
