Solar irradiation is the amount of solar energy that reaches a specific surface during a given period of time. This research examines the historical behavior of solar irradiation in the period from 2012 to 2022 in the Portoviejo canton, Ecuador. The data were obtained from the Nasa Power Data database in order to calculate the average solar irradiance on university campuses and define the peak solar hours (PSH). These data were tabulated and processed using the Minitab 21 statistical program. The objective was to design a solar map that describes the irradiation potential in the canton, which will serve as a basis for the installation of photovoltaic systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This work uses the results of the Random Forest algorithm to predict solar radiation from satellite images. This technique achieved a performance in R2 of 0.82 and in RMSE of 107.05. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the results of 2 models of photovoltaic systems designed for 10 different locations in the Colombian territory. Model M1 uses solar radiation data from NASA. The M2 model uses solar radiation data generated by Random Forest. Methodology: The evaluation of solar radiation from NASA and the Random Forest algorithm is based on simulations provided by the energy resource optimization tool Homer Pro. Results: The simulations of both models in Homer Pro show a difference in the capacity of the system components of between 0.0% and 47.31%. The difference between electric power generation ranges from 0.0% to 11.99%. Similarly, the difference between system costs is between 1.34% and 23.64% respectively. - Abstract
The world soybean production has doubled in the last 20 years, and Brazil was responsible for 52% of all soybeans exported worldwide in the 2021-2022 harvest. The state of Goiás accounts for 14.1 million tons of soybeans, and the Brazilian Midwest region was responsible for 46% of the 2021-2022 national harvest. Soybean production requires considerable electricity consumption. However, it is worrying that, in 2021, around 72% of the electricity used by the Brazilian agricultural sector came from non-renewable sources, such as firewood and diesel oil. In this context, the main objective of this study is to analyze the correlation between soybean production, electricity consumption, and the potential for reducing carbon dioxide emissions that can be achieved if rural producers choose to adopt photovoltaic energy systems. In evaluating this correlation, the analysis focuses on the period from 2005 to 2019, using secondary data with proven reliability. The results obtained reveal a strong correlation between soybean production and electricity consumption in rural areas. Furthermore, it is possible to identify that the introduction of photovoltaic generation systems would have avoided the emission of approximately 66 tons of CO2 during the 2020 harvest season in the southeastern region of Goiás. Given the significance of soybean cultivation in this region, these findings have significant implications for rural electrification program planning and management, as well as the development of more sustainable agricultural practices. Ecuador's solar potential was explored, proving high for the favorable implementation of photovoltaic systems, with a greater focus on the Andes mountain range. In the Coastal region, global horizontal irradiation levels maintain the trend of being feasible for energy optimization in establishments through photovoltaic panels. A proposal was developed to improve the energy efficiency of the computer company Altura S.A. via commercial license software, PVsyst 7.2; showing positive technical and economic results, producing an energy surplus of 14.11% with a recovery period of 15.7 years, avoiding the emission of 1.33 tons of CO2 annually. In turn, various barriers were established that prevent the penetration of these systems such as political, social, etc., as well as the great and reinforced use of conventional energy sources despite the feasibility shown in this study.

Solar Photovoltaic Systems (SSFV) are part of the Cuban Government'sdevelopment strategy to diversify the energy matrix by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and introducing environmentally friendly technologies. Its implementation at the residential levelhas been entrusted to the company COPEXTEL. One of the main problems it faces is the current condition of the electrical systems in Cuban residences, most of which do not have grounding or differential protection to protect against leakage currents. Another problem, no less important, is the requirement that the SSFV can be used when there is no connection to the network, which is currently not possible. It is necessary to define the required grounding levels as well as a solution that allows considering an electrical service with high vitality, even when there is no power supply from the conventional electrical grid. Solar energy is a type of renewable energy that, due to its nature, it is intrinsically influenced by the variability of meteorological and geographical conditions of the site. To tackle variability, storage technologies such as batteries can be used, they enable the integration of renewable energy into the electricity network and a full supply of electrical loads at times of low generation. In this paper, a technical and economic analysis of a photovoltaic (PV) system including energy storage is carried out. Therefore, a model of a photovoltaic system with and without energy storage was developed in order to compare the technical and economic metrics for each case in the context of a residential system, while following a flat tariff. Based on the analysis, the results indicate that from the economic point of view, it is more profitable to install systems operating only with PV modules. On the other hand, the PV with storage systems allow a better use of the photovoltaic energy as can be seen from the metrics of self-consumption and autarky. Thus, this article contributes to the analysis of photovoltaic systems with energy storage through batteries, a relatively new technology in the country, collaborating with the generation of knowledge of systems that are expected to substantially change the electrical system.

Changes in the availability and accessibility of alternative energy sources have been observed in recent years. This study analyzes the economic viability of the use of photovoltaic solar energy systems in equipment for the control and inspection of drinking water pipes. For this, the consumption, costs and operating times were reviewed using conventional sources and photovoltaic energy. The air conditioning system was found to be outdated and needs to be replaced with a leaner, more efficient one. However, portable electric generators should not be disabled, since they will serve as a backup on days when sunshine is the minimum necessary to recharge the batteries, with a contribution of close to 13.5% of the energy. These findings are useful for systems that are part of the jacket dipping process (rehabilitation of trenchless drainage pipes) used by municipal companies that provide home services. The province of San Juan in Argentina presents significant values of solar radiation that stimulate the development of distributed solar photovoltaic generation. Moreover, National Law 27.424 proposes Net Billing as an incentive mechanism for renewable energy sources. This work analyses the profitability of photovoltaic systems in the residential sector under current electricity costs and fare conditions. The analysis allows comparing the leveled cost to generate electricity through photovoltaic generation in contrast to the price of energy consumed from the grid. The results show that, on average, the leveled cost of photovoltaic generation is 20% higher than the average value of the fares for residential users. It is necessary to apply incentive mechanisms as proposed in Law 27.424. to achieve grid parity. In this sense, the impact of the Net Billing mechanism is analyzed and compared with the impact of the Net Metering mechanism. The results show, a priori, that the Net Metering mechanism would be more profitable or economically beneficial for owners of photovoltaic systems. However, this scheme could adversely impact the utilities' incomes. Finally, discussions on incentive mechanisms are introduced to improve the profitability of photovoltaic systems and to assist the government in making decisions to promote these systems. As the transition towards sustainable energy sources increases, understanding the various technologies and inverter benefits such as the ability to maximize energy production and reduce risks are important considerations for technological advancement. The research highlights that the choice between microinverters and conventional inverters depends on several factors. The importance of taking into account aspects such as the size of the installation, budget, presence of shadows and specific needs of the client is highlighted to determine the technology that best adapts to these needs. The analysis of advantages and disadvantages between the different devices shows that they share benefits such as module-level MPPT system and risk reduction, but differ in the ability to replace the central inverter. Furthermore, it is highlighted that there is a notable difference in the use of microinverters in small-scale installations, but their profitability decreases in larger projects. Challenges and opportunities in the implementation of renewable technologies are also explored, highlighting the importance of innovation and continuous research to develop comprehensive and sustainable solutions.

The installation of Photovoltaic Systems (SFV) in Cuba is increasing. Therefore, having tools that allow the behavior of these systems to be simulated is of great help. Through the PowerFactory 15.1 program, it is possible to simulate the influence of the SFVs in the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) and analyze the behavior of all the variables of interest to ensure its correct operation. It happens that in the configuration of the SFVs in PowerFactory the mathematical models that best describe the solar radiation for our country are unknown. Solar radiation is broken down into a global component and a diffuse component. There are several models for each component, either global or diffuse. Simulations were made in PowerFactory with all possible combinations and they were compared in the same scenario with the data obtained in PV*SOL premium 2020 to validate the results obtained in PowerFactory.

Purpose - The research objective is to analyze the influence of key factors contributing to consumers' purchase intention grid-connected photovoltaic systems among residential energy consumers. Design/methodology/approach - A survey based on Korcaj et al. (2014) was conducted in a major Brazilian city; 209 valid responses were obtained directly. Data was analyzed using structural equation modeling. Findings - Among significant decision influences are environmental, financial, and autarchy benefits onto perceived global benefit and perceived behavioral control construct onto purchase intention; perceived social benefits, however, were not a relevant influence as opposed to previous studies. Research limitations/implications - Weakness of the model's reliability leading to the exclusion of the perceived total cost construct, which in turn could reduce sample bias and increase the reliability of the model and regarding clarity regarding the product "solar photovoltaic energy system", as no text was used; this could have left questions unanswered due to the lack of knowledge of respondents about solar technology. Practical implications - The high purchasing power and high education level, along with favorable weather and geography, may contribute to promising perspectives for the product. Furthermore, to promote adhesion of the technology in the city there is a need to increase benefits, to reduce perceived technology costs, and to value the importance of solar energy generation among reference groups. Social implications - The analysis of factors influencing the city's residents' intentions of to adopt photovoltaic systems favors further promotion of the technology in the city. Originality/value - It contributes to the development of consumer behavior studies regarding the adoption intention of ecologically sustainable technologies, i.e., GCPSs, thus, filling a gap in the literature on consumer behavior for this product.

Introduction. The use of renewable sources of energy, and especially photovoltaics, has become a key tool in the field of cleaner production, helping to promote sustainable development in many sectors, including agriculture, becoming an opportunity for momentum for the sector. Objective. This study evaluated the performance of a photovoltaic panel installation with two different technologies through the design and construction of an electronic data acquisition device comparing power curves. Materials and methods. Two types of panel technologies were considered (polycrystalline and amorphous) as the supply of electrical energy in the coffee processing process of the Parque Tecnológico del Café-TECNICAFÉ-SUPRACAFÉ, Cauca, Colombia. A hardware prototype with free software was designed on an Arduino board with a microcontroller capable of measuring the irradiance, power, and thermal response of each solar panel, and the energy generated with both types of installations (parallel and serial) was calculated. Voltage, electric current and temperature data were stored in the micro SD module of the card and then plotted as power delivery characteristic curves. The Results suggest the existence of a direct relationship between the power delivered by the panels and the irradiance variable. The polycrystalline panels delivered higher power than the amorphous ones, reporting a practical efficiency of 11% and 4.8% respectively. Conclusion. The design achieved in this research represents an opportunity to improve the energy performance of the coffee sector. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
A eficiência quântica interna é menor, N-type solar cell technology is growing in the industry as well as the PERT bifacial structure, which enables the increase of power output. The objective of this work was to develop n-type bifacial solar cells with PERT structure, produced with boron and phosphorus diffusion in the same thermal step and with passivation using silicon oxide. The innovation lies on the diffusion of both dopants in the same thermal step, based on patent application BR1020180085760, and the analysis of the passivation with silicon oxide grown under different conditions. Si-Cz and Si-FZ wafers were used and the methodology can be summarized as: 1) to analyze the influence of boron diffusion temperature (from 940 °C to 980 °C) on the sheet resistance of the p+ emitter and n+ back surface field (BSF), the electrical parameters of bifacial solar cells, the bifaciality, the quantum efficiency and reflectance; and 2) to evaluate the thickness and passivation of the silicon oxide layer on the emitter and BSF, grown with reduced oxygen flow and in the presence of nitrogen. This involved estimating the layer thickness with ellipsometry method and measuring the minority carrier lifetime. We found that boron diffusion temperature (TB) affects the BSF sheet resistance, which increases with TB value. The temperatures of 960 °C and 950 °C for boron diffusion resulted in the highest power output in bifacial mode for solar cells produced on Si-Cz and Si-FZ wafers, respectively. The bifaciality reached the value of 0.99 for both substrate types. Due to the higher efficiency of Si-Cz solar cells, the power output in bifacial mode was 1.14 W, while for the Si-FZ device, it was 1.08 W. We also observed that the thickness of the silicon oxide layer was influenced by the boron diffusion temperature and affected the reflectance. In the back surface field, the reflectance at wavelengths near 350 nm decreased with increasing TB, regardless of the substrate type. The internal quantum efficiency in the boron emitt

The projects for the production of electric energy by photovoltaic (PV) systems grow year after year in Brazil. In small and medium size projects the energy production is estimated using simulation software. However, it is essential to assess the performance ratio of these systems against the calculated production, implying the measurement of solar irradiance. The challenge is to develop a low-cost device to be used in small and medium size PV systems. The electric current produced by a solar cell is directly proportional(linear) to the solar irradiance, and by coupling a resistor, a voltage value proportional to the irradiance can be obtained. A device was developed and characterized to obtain solar irradiance and transmit the data to a cloud platform. The silicon solar cell used in the device was calibrated and the solar irradiance values were compared with those obtained by a thermal pyranometer, showing a root mean square error of the order of 9.7 W/m2 in the 21 days of readings from 6 am to 6 pm. The device was installed in a photovoltaic system in Viamão - RS. During 47 days from November/2022 to January/2023, the solar irradiance data as well as the electricity production data from the photovoltaic system were sent to the cloud. The irradiance measurement allowed the identification of shading problems in the PV arrangement. The average overall performance ratio in the period was 91 %, being in line with what is expected for well-designed installed systems.

The world is living in a new technological phase and conventional energy sources are not sufficient to maintain the ongoing process. Alternative sources are required that supplement energy matrixes. They should focus on clean production and on sustainability. Within current chaotic environmental degradation, the term sustainability becomes a keyword for the development of companies. It is more than a competitive differential factor to be incorporated to the philosophy of firms. It is actually a question of organizational survival. Northeastern Brazil is characterized by high solar incidence that generates several energy sources. The Universidade Federal do Vale do São Francisco (UNIVASF), campus Juazeiro (BA), a recently-founded institution, with several engineering courses, has become a source for regional development. It has generated employment and earning in the region of the Vale do São Francisco, and has trained highly qualified professionals in different areas. Current paper deals with a technical and economic analysis of the use of solar energy with the photovoltaic system in UNIVASF, campus Juazeiro, supplying all energy demands. Results show the technical and economic viability at medium term, with environmental, social and economic benefits for the institution and the region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
