This study investigates how Peircean semiotics can unpack the multifaceted meanings associated with House Stark, Starks’ sigil ‘direwolf’ and their motto ‘winter is coming’ in George R. R. Martin’s A game of thrones. It presents Charles S. Peirce’s semeiosis, the mathematical and Kantian origins of Peirce’s triadicity and his triadic representation of signs comprising representamen, interpretant and object. In the novel, Peirce’s representamen is the direwolf sigil, the interpretant is the motto ‘winter is coming’ and the object is House Stark. The investigators explore direct relationships between representamen–interpretant (sigil–motto), interpretant–object (motto–House Stark) and object–representamen (House Stark–sigil). They conclude how the context has changed the meaning of Starks’ sigil and motto. While the study posits that every sign and sentence in the novel functions as a Peircean sign, this investigation focuses on three elements of House Stark: the sigil, the motto and the house itself. The novel has excellent room for future research, particularly by applying Peircean semiotics as an analytical tool. This approach promises a fresh perspective on the story’s elements and a deeper understanding of how the narrative reflects and connects to real-world social structures, events and broader themes. The following paper focuses on the role and function of symbols in magical practice. The first part explains the symbol as a semiotic term with all its fundamental features, including the necessary function and condition of ordinary communication. The next section deals with symbols that fulfill the essential role of transforming reality within the framework of magical practice. Examples of sigil magic, Tarot, and amulets explain the paradigm, which uses symbolic language as a mandatory condition for its existence and simultaneously ignores the shared awareness of the origin of the symbol as a constitutional element of its functionality. This paper demonstrates how the symbols used in everyday communication and the symbols used in magical practice are two different entities performing distinct kinds of function, and primarily that they differ in requirements for being created and functional. This study has the following objectives: (1) Explaining the stages of the development process of electronic modules on temperature, heat, and heat transfer materials using Sigil software, (2) Explaining the final specifications of scientific-based electronic modules on temperature, heat, and heat transfer materials using Sigil software. This study uses three steps of the development method with the ADDIE model, namely (1) analysis, (2) design, and (3) development. The research instruments used in this study include a needs analysis questionnaire, a validation questionnaire for the validator, a student test sheet questionnaire, and a draft interview question. The data are qualitative data and quantitative data. The study was conducted in three high schools in Surakarta Residency, namely SMAN 1 Surakarta, SMAN 1 Kartasura, and SMAN 1 Ngemplak Boyolali. The data sources consisted of two experts, three high school physics teachers, and 90 students. The data analysis technique used is qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. The conclusions of this development research are (1) The development step of the scientific-based physics learning electronic module using Sigil software on the material of temperature, heat, and heat transfer includes the stage, completion step, and module testing step. (2) The developed physics learning electronic module presents temperature, heat, and heat transfer material which consists of 6 sub-materials, namely temperature, heat, the effect of heat on changes in substances (solids), expansion of solids, black principle, and heat transfer. The background of the module display in each learning activity is based on a scientific flow. Based on the results of expert validation and student assessment, the developed module meets the criteria very well. This research can be used as a preliminary research and reference in developing similar products.

Sigillographic representation of archimorphs and ideograms as related to the BCCS (Biophysical Cross-Shore Classification System) using distributive vexillology in coastal belt cartographic displays. The sigillation (sigilization) process (i.e. creation of flags, signs, symbols, emblems) provides an opportunity to characterize coastal belts via semiotics through rapid visual inspection of satellite imagery. Emblematic depictions of eco-geomorphological units using the Biophysical Cross-Shore Classification System (BCCS) is offered as a semiotic proposal using graphic symbolization based on the development of a unique color scheme for cross-shore archetypes coupled with ideograms that are derived from predefined archimorphs. The resulting sigil formats are amenable to flagging coastal belts in a symbolization that combines color with ideographic displays. Although compliant to larger scale (smaller areas) coastal surveying and mapping efforts, the sigils are most useful in the characterization of smaller scale (larger areas) satellite image views. Derivation of classificatory units at smaller scales requires zoom capabilities to ascertain the dominant archetypes presented in the coastal sigil flags. In addition to the small-scale presentation of coastal belt characteristics as vexillographic overlays on satellite images, the sigillation process allows the amalgamation of colors and ideographs to represent dimorphic and polymorphic sigil combinations, as in the case, for example, of beach-dune (Be-Du) dimorphs or barrier island (beach-dune-wetland-lagoon-wetland; Be-Du-W-L-W) polymorphs. These color-symbol schema allow for a new kind of kinematic coastal classification mapping, where distributive dynamism results in cartographic displays at presentation scales (depending on paper page size) for using the BCCS. These cognitive mapping procedures compliment algorithmic autoclassification via machine interpretation by providing a rapid and simplified means of coastal characterization based on visual ques and cerebral perceptions. Aim: Viral wart is a common benign infectious dermatosis. It remains unclear why not everyone exposed to HPV develops warts. It is known that vitamin and mineral deficiencies can affect impair natural and acquired immunity and lead to a tendency to get more infections. This study aimed to determine the potential utility of evaluating vitamin B12, folic acid, and ferritin levels in patients with viral warts. Material and Methods: In this retrospective study, 70 patients who were diagnosed with viral warts in the dermatology outpatient clinic of Karabük University Training and Research Hospital between January 2018 and December 2019 were included. 70 healthy individuals matched with viral wart patients in terms of gender and age were included as the control group. Serum vitamin B12, folic acid, and ferritin levels of both groups were detected and compared from the hospital automation system. Results: Vitamin B12 level was detected statistically significantly lower in the viral wart group as compared to the control group (p=0.046). Although serum ferritin levels were found lower in the viral wart group, this difference was not statistically significant (p=0.677). No statistically significant difference was detected between the viral wart and control groups in terms of folate levels (p=0.879). Conclusion: In patients with viral warts with low serum vitamin B12 levels, replacement therapy could be considered. Also, the evaluation of serum ferritin level, an iron storage parameter in the body, is important in patients with viral warts infection.

DEVELOPMENT OF INTERACTIVE E-MODULE ON COLLIGATIVE PROPERTIES OF SOLUTIONS USING SIGIL Abstract The role of technology in education is very important in helping to achieve learning goals, especially during a pandemic like now. This research aims to develop teaching materials in the form of an interactive electronic module or e-Module on the colligative properties of solutions using Sigil. The output of Sigil's products has an ePub format that is easily accessible both offline and online. This teaching material contains videos and animations to help visualize the concept. The research method used Research and Development by following the Plomp model. e-Module has been validated by 2 material experts and 2 media experts, and trials of users to teachers and students. The results showed that the interactive e-Module has a very valid value of 4 assessment substances in the form of material substance, learning design, display (visual communication) and software utilization with a percentage of scores of 96.15%, 96.88%, 93.75%, and 95.19% respectively. The test results of user response each obtained a score of 96.67% with a very interesting category. Abstrak Peranan teknologi dalam pendidikan sangat penting dalam membantu tercapainya tujuan pembelajaran, terlebih pada masa pandemi seperti sekarang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar dalam bentuk modul elektronik atau e-Module yang bersifat interaktif pada materi sifat koligatif larutan menggunakan Sigil. Luaran dari produk Sigil memiliki format ePub yang mudah diakses secara offline maupun online. Bahan ajar ini dilengkapi dengan video dan animasi untuk membantu memvisualisasi konsep. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Research and Development dengan mengikuti model Plomp. e-Module yang dikembangkan telah divalidasi oleh 2 ahli materi dan 2 ahli media, serta uji coba terhadap pengguna, yaitu guru dan peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa e-Module interaktif yang dikembangkan memenuhi kriteria sangat valid dari 4 substansi penilaian yaitu substansi materi, desain pembelajaran, tampilan (komunikasi visual) dan pemanfaatan software dengan persentase skor berturut-turut sebesar 96,15%, 96,88%, 93,75%, dan 95,19%. Hasil uji respon pengguna masing-masing diperoleh skor 96,67% dengan kategori sangat menarik.

Son zamanlarda yaygın ve ayak taban siğili olan hastalara kriyoterapi ve immünoterapi tedavi yöntemleri uygulanmaya başlanmıştır. Bununla birlikte hangi tedavi yönteminin başarılı olacağına dair bir kanıt bulunmamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, bu iki yöntemin siğil tedavisinde başarılı olup olmayacağı lojistik regresyon ve karar ağacı algoritmaları kullanılarak tahmin edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada açık erişime sahip olan UCI veri tabanındaki veriler kullanılarak WEKA yazılımı üzerinde algoritmalar koşturulmuştur. Sonuç olarak, seçilen siğil tedavi yönteminin başarısı karar ağacı sınıflandırıcısı ile %85,56 oranında doğru olarak tespit edilmiştir.

Objective The first aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of comorbid psychiatric disorders as well as psychosocial factors such as peer victimization, self-esteem, loneliness and social support properties in adolescents with warts. The second aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between factors affecting quality of life and the various psychosocial factors (social support/loneliness/peer victimization/self-esteem) in these adolescents. Materials and Methods This study included 62 adolescents with viral warts and 62 age and gender-matched healthy controls. The Piers-Harris Self-Concept Scale, Social Support Scale for Children, short-form UCLA Loneliness Scale, and Peer Victimization Scale were administered to the case and control groups. Both groups were evaluated with the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Age Children- Present and Lifetime Version-Turkish Version. The Dermatology Life Quality Index was administered to the case group. Results There were no significant differences in the frequency of comorbid psychiatric disorders and the levels of peer victimization, self-esteem, loneliness and social support between the case and control groups. It was determined that the duration of presence of warts/number of warts/location of warts/number of involved sites significantly affected the quality of life. The levels of loneliness and social support were related to the levels of peer victimization and self-esteem in adolescents with viral warts. Conclusion Amelioration of loneliness by increasing social support can play a protective role on the levels of quality of life and self-esteem by reducing the risk of peer victimization in adolescents with viral warts. Objective: To determine the type of HPV that causes lesion in women with genital warts and to compare them with cervical HPV and cytology samples Materıal And Methods: HPV typing and cervical cytology were performed from women who applied to our hospital between April 2014 and April 2015 due to genital warts. The study was a prospective study and approval was obtained from the ethics committee of our hospital and the informed consent was obtained to the women who accepted to participate in the study. Forty women were given to our study. Results: Our study was carried out on 44 patients whose ages ranged from 17 to 60 years. The mean age of the patients was 35.75 ± 11.67 years. While 17 (38.6%) of the cases were under 30 years of age, 27 (61.4%) were over 30 years of age. In HPV typing in genital lesion, 35 (79.5%) HPV type 6-11 were detected, 3 (6.8%) HPV type 16-18 were detected, and 6 (13.6%) could not have HPV. When the cervical HPV results were examined; 30 (68.2%) HPV type 6-11, 3 (6.8%) HPV type 16-18, 2 (4.5%) HPV other high type were observed, 9 (20.5%) cases were cervical HPV negative. When the cervical cytology of the patients were examined; While 35 (79.5%) smear results were normal, 5 (11.4%) ASCUS and 4 (9.1%) LGSIL were detected. Conclusıon: It should be considered that increased risk of cervical HPV and cervical dysplasia in patients presenting with genital warts. Cervical examination should be performed carefully in non-virgin patients with condyloma, cytological sampling should be taken and colposcopy- guided biopsy should be taken if necessary. This study aims to develop digital book based on sigil on the material of European history in growing the values of Pancasila democracy. This book is aimed to give an alternative of learning material by using ICT to reach the aims of learning. The book should follow the standardized test to ensure the digital book could be used in teaching and learning process at History Department, State University of Malang. This study tended to used research and development approach. We used eight Sadiman's model of (1) identification of needs; (2) composing aims; (3) material development; (4) development of evaluation tool; (5) writing a draft; (6) validation; (7) revision; (8) production. Based on data analysis, this study found that the book could be used without any major revision. The percentage of questionnaire result from media expert was 90.48% and from material expert was at 96.75%. To short, the digital book has filled the requirement of book standardization. Verruca and molluscum contagiosum (MC) infections tend to involve some body parts that create aesthetic concern, e.g. facial, palmoplantar and genital area. Therefore, new searches are continuing especially in treatment resistant cases. In this article, it is aimed to review of literature data about the efficacy and safety of certain lasers and Intense Pulsed Laser (IPL) treatments frequently used in verruca and MC infections in recent years. The clinical studies, case series and reports which were published in the last 20 years have been examined. It has been determined that CO2 laser, Nd: YAG laser and PDL are effective treatment options in resistant verruca infections; however, further studies are needed to determine the efficacy of other lasers and IPL in treatment. PDL treatment can be an effective and reliable option in the treatment of MC, but it is not enough studies on this subject and more extensive studies are required. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many areas of contemporary art and culture in the United States and Europe can be shown to have a direct lineage to the rich history of the Western Mystery Traditions, rooted in ancient esoteric and magical philosophies of Greece and Egypt. Video mash-ups and audio sampling have inherited the cut-up methods of Beat poets and artists, who in turn were influenced by the Surrealists and their contemporaries. Early twentieth-century artists such as Austin O. Spare drew upon magickal practices derived directly from renaissance practitioners such as John Dee's use of The Key of Solomon and Giordano Bruno's Art of Memory. Methods of employing graphical imagery for the purpose of accessing insight or influence from alternate realms continue to draw upon Gnostic and Hermetic philosophies of ancient Greece and Egyptian antiquity. We can easily see the persistent influence of these ancient beliefs and practices in the contemporary use of logos and symbols of popular culture as well as in contemporary art and music. Background and Design: The aim of this study was to determine the efficiency of 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser in different types of verruca. Material and Method: A prospective descriptive study was planned. The study group constituted of 198 patients who had referred to the dermatology outpatient clinic between September 2007 and September 2008 with warts located at different sites and not previously treated. Results: Of the 198 patients aged 7-65 years who applied to our outpatient clinic during the study, 83 (41.9%) were female, 115 (58.1%) were male and the female/male ratio was 0.72; the total wart number, the mean wart number, and standard deviation were found to be 1127, 6.59, and 14.28, respectively. The location of warts was as follows: periungual (n=25; 12.6%), facial - plana (n=16; 8.1%), palmar (n=45; 22.7%), plantar (n=70; 35.4%), and genital (n=42; 21.2%). At clinical recovery evaluation, the recovery rate was 97% (range: 75-100%), and the patient satisfaction was found to be 98.5% in recovery rate over 50%. Our results and the rate of side effects overlap with those in the literature. Conclusion: The treatment success ratio with 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser is quite high in comparison with the other treatment methods and its side effects are not too much, except for pain. Being expensive is the disadvantage of the system. We suggest that Nd:YAG laser is the most efficient and time-saving method in patients with needle fear, unwilling to receive longstanding local treatment, and in children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
