Water and nitrogen are crucial for producing spring maize. Currently, irrigation and fertilization systems often rely on a single indicator, resulting in inefficient practices. This study aims to determine an optimal nitrogen application rate for shallow buried drip irrigation (SBDI) to balance growth characteristics, yield (Y), water use efficiency (WUE), and soil nitrogen levels. In a typical semi-arid region of Northeast China, we conducted controlled experiments from 2022 to 2023, adopting a two-factor quadratic saturation D-optimal design method to study the effects of different irrigation amounts (145.40, 271.70, 348.20, and 436.20 mm) and nitrogen fertilizer application amounts (34.80, 185.90, 277.40, and 382.80 kg·hm−2) on spring maize. The results indicate that increasing both irrigation and nitrogen application rates can enhance dry matter accumulation (DMA) from 15.17% to 32.70%. The impact of irrigation and fertilization on the net photosynthetic rate (Pn) of spring maize was greater for the irrigation applications than the nitrogen applications, particularly at 9:00 a.m. and 13:00 p.m. and slightly less so at 11:00 a.m. and 15:00 p.m. Concurrently, there were significant increases in total nitrogen (TN1 by 20.85% in the 0–20 cm soil layer; TN2 by 33.33% in the 20–40 cm soil layer) and alkali-hydrolyzed nitrogen (AHN1 by 14.65% at 0–20 cm; AHN2 by 28.86% at 20–40 cm). Y improved from 12.02% to 44.09%, and WUE increased from 20.08% to 140.07%. The optimal water and fertilizer management mode for spring maize SBDI in semi-arid areas was determined through comprehensive analysis using the TOPSIS entropy weight method. When the irrigation amount is 436.20 mm, and the nitrogen fertilizer application amount is 277.40 kg·hm−2, it can significantly promote the DMA, Y, WUE, photosynthetic characteristics, and soil nitrogen content of spring maize. A field experiment of drip fertigated nitrogen reduction was set up in a typical Maize planting area in the Xiliao River Basin in 2018 and 2019. Different phased nitrogen reductions were set up under shallow buried drip irrigation during the growth period to explore ways to improve nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) by understanding the Maize regulation of nitrogen absorption and utilization. The recommended nitrogen application in the early stage (Nopt, total nitrogen 240 kg·hm−2) had the highest grain nitrogen uptake and total nitrogen uptake, followed by nitrogen reduction before the maximum canopy mulching (Nde-I, total nitrogen 180 kg·hm−2), nitrogen reduction after the maximum canopy mulching (Nde-II, total nitrogen 180 kg·hm−2) and no nitrogen application (N0). Without nitrogen application, the leaves were thin, green and yellow. The total nitrogen uptake was 38.54~41.31% lower than the recommended nitrogen application in the early stage. When nitrogen fertilizer was reduced in the maximum canopy mulching, grain nitrogen absorption was affected. Grain nitrogen absorption fell by 15.07% to 17.51% when nitrogen was reduced in the maximum canopy mulching compared to the recommended nitrogen application. The harvest index of nitrogen reduction before the maximum canopy coverage was 9.65~11.52% higher than that in the later stage, indicating that the nitrogen absorption between Maize grain, stem, and leaf was better regulated. Maize evapotranspiration water consumption was reduced throughout the growth cycle when nitrogen was reduced at various stages. Nitrogen reduction before maximum canopy mulching boosted water use efficiency (WUE) by 3.44% to 6.12% compared to the recommended nitrogen application in the early stage. The nitrogen fertilizer agronomic efficiency increased by 11.17% to 13.87%. The nitrogen use efficiency rose by 10.99~3.15% (5.24~6.60 percentage points). A total of 25% of nitrogen fertilizer was saved with the yield declining by only about 5%, resulting in increased NUE while maintaining the yield stability. Under shallow buried drip fertigated irrigation, the appropriate reduction in nitrogen fertilizer during the period from Maize sowing to the maximum canopy development ensured the nitrogen supply during tasseling–silking stage and filling stage, which can be used as a regulation method and a way to improve the Maize fertilizer use efficiency. It aims to explore the diurnal variation characteristics and influencing factors of N2O and CO2 emission fluxes in spring maize field under shallow burial drip irrigation in the Xiliaohe Plain, and to determine the best observation time in one day. During the silking stage of spring maize, the dynamic characteristics of daily emissions of N2O and CO2 under flood irrigation（CK） and shallow burial drip irrigation（DG） were studied by static obscura-gas chromatography, and their correlations with soil temperature and humidity were analyzed. The results showed that N2O and CO2 emissions had obvious diurnal variation characteristics under the two irrigation methods of shallow burial drip irrigation and flood irrigation. The diurnal variation trend was similar to that of atmospheric temperature, showing a unimodal emission curve, and the emissions both appeared about 2 hours after the atmospheric temperature reached the highest value on the observation day. The average daily emission fluxes of N2O and CO2 in flood irrigation were 199.21 μg·m-²·h-1 and 217.77 mg·m-2·h-1, respectively; the average daily emission fluxes of N2O and CO2 in shallow burial drip irrigation were 235.82 μg·m-²·h-1 and 253.54 mg·m-²·h-1,respectively, which increased by 18.38% and 16.43% respectively compared with flood irrigation. Correlation analysis showed that the diurnal changes of N2O and CO2 emission fluxes were significantly（P<0.05） or extremely significantly（P<0.01） correlated with surface temperature and 10 cm ground temperature in the treatments of shallow burial drip irrigation and flood irrigation. Soil temperature was an important factor affecting the diurnal changes of N2O and CO2emission. The analysis of the time distribution of the correction coefficient showed that the N2O and CO2 emission fluxes measured in the shallow burial drip irrigation during the time period of 08:00-10:00 am were closest to the average emission fluxes of the whole day, which was the best observation time for N2O and CO2 emissions. It is suggested that the emission flux of N2O and CO2 can be monitored from 08:00 to 10:00 in the morning after silking stage of spring maize field under shallow buried drip irrigation in Xiliaohe plain. By comparing and analyzing the effects of different water-saving modes on potato dry matter accumulation, transportation, yield and economic benefits, it discusses the high-efficiency water-saving modes suitable for the popularization and application of potatoes in the northern foot of Yinshan Mountain. [Method] The experiment adopted a split zone design, and analyzed and compared three water-saving modes of high-ridge drip irrigation (HRDI), under-film drip irrigation (UMDI), and shallow buried drip irrigation (SBDI) at 1 500 m-3/hm-2 (gradient 1) and 1 950 m-3/hm-2 (gradient 2) dry matter accumulation of potato under irrigation gradient , Transshipment, output, commodity characteristics, and differences in economic benefits. [Results] The shallow buried drip irrigation (SBDI) mode can effectively promote the dry matter accumulation of potato plants. The SBDI1 treatment maintains the highest total plant dry matter accumulation during the potato tuber formation period, tuber expansion period, and starch accumulation period. The stem and leaf dryness The amount of material transported and the amount of dry matter transported had the highest contribution rate to tubers. The dry matter accumulation of the whole plant treated with SBDI2 and SBDI1 at the mature stage was 286.05 g/plant and 274.67 g/plant, respectively, which were significantly higher than other treatments (P<0.05); The number of potatoes per plant, the weight per plant, and the rate of commercial potatoes were the highest in SBDI2 treatment, which were 6.65, 1.24 kg, and 90.80%, respectively. The yield of each treatment from high to low is SBDI1>HRDI1>UMDI1>SBDI2>HRDI2>UMDI2. The yield of SBDI1 is the highest, 47.40 t/hm-2. Compared with other treatments, the yields have been increased. 1.61%, 2.27%, 3.27%, 6.54%, 10.23%; under the same irrigation conditions, the potato yields are all SBDI>HRDI>UMDI, and the irrigation volume is 1 500 m3/hm-2 The potato yields of the three water-saving modes were all higher than the irrigation rate by 1 950 m-3/hm-2 treatment; SBDI1 and SBDI2 treatments Obtained higher economic benefits, respectively 22 604 yuan/hm-2 and 22,748 yuan/hm-2. [Conclusion] The shallow burial drip irrigation mode can achieve high yield and high efficiency under the premise of water-saving and film-saving, and the irrigation volume can be 1 500 m3/hm-2. As a new and efficient water-saving mode, the drip irrigation mode is popularized in the northern foot of Yinshan Mountain where the precipitation during the potato growth period is 300-400 mm.
