Previous studies have identified the positive relationship between Internet altruistic behavior (IAB) and psychological health. However, few studies have investigated the relationship between IAB and self-consistency and congruence (SCC), and less is known about the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relationship. The current study explored the association between IAB and SCC, and examined the mediating role of self-efficacy and the moderating role of self-esteem. A total of 1037 college students (M
age = 20.16 years, SD = 1.57) completed anonymous questionnaires regarding IAB, self-efficacy, self-esteem, and SCC. Results indicated that IAB was positively related to college students' SCC, and self-efficacy partially mediated this relationship. The direct relation between IAB and SCC, and the relationship between IAB and self-efficacy, were both moderated by self-esteem. The relationships between IAB and SCC, as well as between IAB and self-efficacy were stronger for college students with high levels of self-esteem. These findings contribute to a better understanding of how and when IAB may be associated with college students' SCC, and provide new perspectives for the promotion of college students' mental health. - Abstract
During the critical period of personality shaping and self-development, adolescents face unique challenges and opportunities. This study, based on Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, explored the relationship between shyness and self-consistency and congruence (hereinafter referred to as SCC), as well as its underlying mechanisms. Through a questionnaire survey on shyness, social comparison orientation, self-focused attention, and SCC among 984 adolescents, the results revealed that (1) Adolescent shyness negatively predicted SCC. (2) Social comparison orientation partially mediated the relationship between shyness and SCC. (3) Self-focused attention moderated the direct pathway of this mediation process, where a high level of self-focused attention exacerbated the negative impact of shyness on SCC. These findings offered a new perspective on understanding SCC and underscored the importance of addressing the information processing mechanisms of social comparison orientation and self-focused attention among shy adolescents in interventions aimed at promoting their psychological harmony and healthy growth., Competing Interests: The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2024 Yu and Sun.)

Self-concept differentiation (SCD) is a sign of fragmentation of the self rather than specialization of role identities for its robust relationship with psychological adjustment. However, little is known about the mechanisms underlying the relationship between SCD and psychological adjustment. The aim of this study was to examine the mediating role of self-consistency and congruence (SCC) in the association between SCD and psychological adjustment (psychological well-being, depression, and anxiety), and the moderating role of age in the relationship between SCD and SCC. This moderated mediation model was examined among 158 Chinese retirees (mean age = 71.12, SD = 9.13), who completed measurements regarding SCD, SCC, psychological well-being, anxiety, and depression. The results showed that SCC partially mediated the links between SCD and the indices of psychological adjustment. Furthermore, age moderated this mediation effect, which was found in mean and high-age participants, but not in low-age ones. Our findings indicate that, at different age stages, the internal mechanisms of SCD affecting psychological adaptation are not the same, and a low differentiated or highly integrated self can serve as an adaptive resource to maintain high subjective well-being of the elderly and protect them from anxiety and depression.

According to the questionnaire survey of 500 graduate students on mental health, spiritual belief and self-harmony, through mathematical statistical analysis, it was found that :(1) overall, the psychological status of graduate students was unhealthy, and there were significant differences in some demographic variables; (2) self-flexibility has a significant positive predictive effect on political belief, nationalism, life pursuit and family pursuit; (3) the rigidity of ego has significant negative and positive predictive effect on nationalism and money pursuit respectively; (4) the disharmony between self and experience has a significant positive predictive effect on religious belief and god worship.

Background: Psychosocial job characteristics require nursing staff with high self-consistency and good mental health. However, the attention and effort of such study remained very limited in China. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to the bedside nurses in an affiliated hospital of Hebei Medical University, China. Of 218 registered bedside nurses eligible to participate in the survey anonymously, the data producing sample of 172 subjects resulted in a 79 % of effective response rate.. The Social Support Rating Scale was used to measure social support, and the Self-Consistency and Congruence Scale were used to measure mental health. Results: Compared with the normal referenced group of college students, higher self-flexibility scores, lower self-conflict and self-stethoscope scores from the sample group were obtained with statistical significance in self-conflict scores. The close correlations were observed between participants' social support and Self-Consistency and Congruence Scale score. The difference of Social Support Rating Scale score was significant in demographic features including years of work, marital status, only child family, and levels of cooperation with other health worker. Conclusions: Bedside nurses in this study show a better inner harmony, and their Self-Consistency and Congruence closely correlates with the levels of social support. Thus, it is substantial to improve inner perception of support and external factors, such as the workplace support, and offer beneficial social environment to improve the bedside nurse's sub-health symptoms and decrease the high turnover rate. Objective The aim of the study was to explore the efficacy of structural group therapy on the self-consistency and congruence of inpatient adolescents with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Method Sixty inpatient adolescents with schizophrenia were randomly assigned to an intervention group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 30). The intervention group was provided with a 12-session structural group therapy program for six weeks (1 h, two times per week), while the control group participated in a handicraft group. All patients were assessed with the Self-Consistency and Congruence Scale (SCCS) and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) at pretest, posttest, three-month and one-year follow-up. The results were analyzed using t -test and repeated measures ANOVA. Findings The two groups had no significant difference at the pre-test of outcome measures (p > 0.05). Significant differences existed between the two groups in ego-dystonic, self-flexibility, SCCS scores, positive syndrome, general psychopathology and PANSS scores after the intervention (p < 0.05). At the three-month follow-up, ego-dystonic, self-flexibility and PANSS scores were also found to be significantly different between the two groups (p < 0.05). But the outcome measures were not significantly different between the two groups at the one-year follow-up. Conclusion Structural group therapy in a mental health setting had a positive effect on improving self-consistency and congruence, positive symptoms and general psychopathology of inpatient adolescents with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. - Abstract
Objective: By analyzing the mediating effect of self-determination on the relationship between family cohesion and adaptability and self-consistency and congruence, to explore the mediating mechanism of family cohesion and adaptability on self-consistency and congruence., Methods: A total of 1285 college students from 10 universities in Henan Province were surveyed with questionnaires including the family cohesion and adaptability scale, the self-determination scale and the self-consistency and congruence scale. The SPSS were used to explore the relationships among them., Results: Correlation analysis showed that there was a significant correlation among family cohesion and adaptability, self-determination and self-consistency and congruence. Mediating effect tests showed that self-determination played a part mediating role on the relationship between family cohesion and self-consistency and congruence( the proportion of mediating effect in total was 46. 11%). Self-determination played a part mediating role on the relationship between family adaptability and self-consistency and congruence( theproportion of mediating effect in total was 52. 38%). Awareness of self and perceived choice also played a part mediating role on the relationship between family cohesion and adaptability and self-consistency and congruence( the proportion of mediating effect in total was 26. 29%-39. 46%)., Conclusion: Family cohesion and adaptability not only had a direct predictor of self-consistency and congruence, but also played an indirect role in predicting self-determination.
