In this paper, we introduce the concept of genetic networks to study the relationships between manuscripts and publications in genetic editing. We present a data model and its formalisation in an OWL2 ontology, as well as the corresponding data visualisations in the form of sky maps. Our case study is the literary œuvre of the Swiss writer and photographer Gustave Roud (1897-1976). We conclude with some remarks about the project workflow and the integration of data and visual modelling. &nbsp

In this paper, we study data reuse in scholarly editing, providing insights into the current panorama and imagining future developments. We will focus on the reuse of data, leaving aside the reuse of code and models, which would require a separate enquiry; and would concentrate on machine-actionable reuse, as opposed to human consumption.

In this poster we would like to present the new architecture and features of EVT 3 (Edition Visualization Technology), an open source Angular-based tool for the visualization of TEI-XML Digital Scholarly Editions. We will use and showcase two digital philology projects as test bed for the new functionalities.

We present a study of musical arrangements oif concert music for domestic performance through the lens of an English monthly music journal (The Harmonicon). The study is supported by digital annotation tooling built on IIIF, MEI and Linked Data.

This panel will explore the various aspects of what is involved, not only in conceiving and building a 3D infrastructure, but in creating 3D Scholarly editions and developing the viewers that allow stories to be created around them. This paper discusses the use of recent additions to the Semantic Web toolkit, particularly SHACL, to provide true schema validation for graph-based data models such as the one used in the Stemmarest repository for variant text traditions.

The short paper will discuss the data that was generated during the editing of the records of the Imperial Diet of 1576. In a case study we will use data from our manuscript database and from the edited texts to analyse different dates and events mentioned in the records.

In this half-day workshop, participants will learn how to use different components of the Linked Editing Academic Framework (LEAF) digital scholarship production platform: encoding and annotating texts, entity tagging and reconciliation, coordinating different types of media files into compound objects and galleries, managing metadata and workflow tracking, and producing a simple collection of objects. Using sample text and image objects, with the possibility of experimenting with their own materials, participants will come away with an understanding of how LEAF supports collaborative digital scholarly production in an open-source, open-access web environment.

Texas A&M University's Center of Digital Humanities Research (CoDHR) published the New Variorum Shakespeare (NVS) open-access in digital form, beginning with two editions, The Winter's Tale and A Midsummer Night's Dream in 2021, with plans to move forward with new editors who are under contract to create editions digitally in Corpora, and backward to eventually include all the volumes in the series, beginning with the first NVS Edition of Romeo and Juliet (1871). The CoDHR team has designed this project with three main goals: 1) to teach students and early career researchers the concepts behind variorum editing through interface design as well as tutorials; 2) to enable searching across and within volumes and variants using Modern English and major Act-Scene-Line numbers, returning not only exportable lists, text, and bibliographical citations, but also visualizations demonstrating everything from when characters speak in plays to the evolution of variant histories; and, in the final phase of the project, 3) to be interoperable with, and allow access to, other major Shakespeare digital resources including bibliographies of criticism, digital copies of editions published since Shakespeare's time, images, and videos. Following the practice of state-of-the-art digital humanities projects, we aim to render Shakespeare's texts and international criticism available world-wide.[1] To provide a little background, "The term variorum alludes to the Latin phrase editio cum notis variorum, that is, 'an edition with the notes of the various [editors and commentators],' a phrase indicating the chief purpose of a variorum edition: namely, to collect what has been written by various commentators, critics, and editors."[2] A Shakespeare variorum sets several editions of a play side by side in order to track sentence-, word-, and character-level changes. Each NVS volume comprises hundreds of pages, collates several editions, and takes editors decades--and very often a lifetime--to complete. These print editions also tend to be difficult to navigate for anyone who isn't a Shakespeare scholar or familiar with variorums. CoDHR's Digital NVS, however, organizes and presents variorums through an interface that is accessible, intuitive, and comprehensive. Unlike the print editions, this online application showcases all of the core components of a variorum at a glance: play text, commentary notes, and textual notes, making the content easier to understand. Additionally, new NVS editors will soon be able to use the web application's backend called Corpora to build editions, start to finish, using collation tools that will enable them to complete their work more quickly and accurately. What used to take editors years to complete can now be created through a single web application that allows for remote access and virtual collaboration. Having launched the site in Beta with the publication of The Winter's Tale and A Midsummer Night's Dream in July 2021, we are currently working on the next phases of the project as we move out of Beta: improving accessibility and usability; digitizing all NVS print editions from Romeo and Juliet (1871) to King Lear (2020); and assisting editors with creating born-digital NVS editions, using Corpora. We are also working on developing "a suite of research tools including an advanced search across multiple editions; visualizations of search results (such as a character-based frequency plot which will convey what characters most frequently use search terms in their speeches); the ability to sort and filter play lines, textual notes, and commentary in tabular format; and the ability to download raw versions of the data as JSON or TEI. We also hope to integrate external sources of information about a given play line or bibliographic entry."[3] It is our hope that the Digital NVS, which presents variorums in a new, more accessible way, will be an excellent resource not only for future NVS editors, but for readers, scholars, educators, and performers. The paper presents digital edition of Tolstoy's heritage based on 90 complete edition, printed in mid 20th century. The paper describes the workflow that has been chosen to deal with this immense cultural heritage and defines a compromise between three objectives: presevation of Tolstoy's heritage, preservation of literary scholar edition and digital user scenarios

This paper contributes to the assessment of various – possibly impacting – factors during the collection of ground truth data for training HTR-systems. By scrutinising different parameters (e.g. scribal hands, handwriting styles, spelling profiles, textual genres, etc.) we will report on the impact of various train-target combinations.

This contribution illustrates the preliminary results of the project concerning Giorgio Bassani's personal library. The project provides both a printed traditional edition of the notes he wrote on his books and the development of a digital environment to browse and analyze them.

The theatrical agency of the Viennese court between 1758 and 1763 is documented by Philipp Gumpenhuber's chronicle, an unique and exceptional source that offers insights into the theatrical, social, and political court life. The project's aim is to create a scholarly digital edition (GuDiE) of the theatre chronicles.

This paper presents a platform providing a digital census of copies of a limited number of printed editions and mapping their owners and readers' annotations represented in an RDF framework. Its ResearchSpace instance, magnetic-margins.com, provides interactive statistical analyses of the data that is encoded predominantly using CIDOC-CRM and FRBRoo.

The proposed poster gives an overview on the Gloss-ViBe project which analyses the early medieval Celtic and Latin glosses found in the fragmentory manuscript Vienna, Österreichische Nationalbibliothek, Codex 15298 (olim Suppl. 2698) from different angles including digital humanities, philology and linguistics.

W. H. Auden was among the most influential twentieth-century poets. New digital-edition projects aim to contribute to investigating his life and work in Austria. While the model of 'assertive edition' helps to address both philologically- and historically/biographically-oriented research interests, this paper will focus on formally representing uncertainty and editorial interpretation.

Bee-ing Human is an interdisciplinary project that brings together researchers from the Humanities (Literary Studies, Musicology), Biology (Insect Behaviour), and research software engineers to study the role of emotions in Bees. We depart from a seventeenth-century apiary book (Butler, The Feminine Monarchy of Bees) to produce a new work in the digital space that will reflect on both the early modern knowledge and interpretation of bee behaviour, and the latest scientific research.

Based on ongoing research in the collaborative Digital Theological Hobbes (DTH) project, this long presentation aims to showcase the benefits of a textometric approach to the elaboration and exploitation of a machine-readable model of Hobbes's Bible in the English political works relying on the TXM software platform.

With this paper we would like to reflect on Proyecto Humboldt Digital's strategy for building digital capacities –that is, learning new skills and methodologies at an individual and organizational level– through collaboration. The international collaboration established in Proyecto Humboldt Digital (ProHD) has not been limited to carrying out a technical workflow but continuously organizes the exchange of research activities and experiences, and builds on a wide set of both internal (team oriented) and external (community oriented) training activities. Despite restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, short stays in both Havana and Berlin have taken place since 2019 as well as monthly meetings in virtual format; more recently, in 2022 an international DH conference and a workshop about digital scholarly editions took place in La Habana (Cuba) organized by the team members. During these encounters, we were able to define software requirements, present our main results, share the main issues and progress made in retrospect, and plan our following activities in order to publish online a collection of texts related to Alexander von Humboldt's trip to Cuba in the 19th century.

Composed to mark Franz Joseph's state visit to Wilhelm II, Strauss' Kaiser Walzer (Emperor Waltz) provokes the question: which Emperor was it for? We investigate this in a case study of interdisciplinary collaboration in digital musicology, employing a FAIR data multimedia corpus associated with the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concerts.

This paper investigates to what extent formal aspects, such as rhyme, stanza form, and text structure, might have influenced the medieval copying process. To this end, all 17 manuscripts of Jacob van Maerlant's Martijn trilogy have been computationally aligned. A first test verified the constraining character of rhyme.

The poster will present the project "Between Composition and Reception: the Authority of Medieval Charters" and discuss what role machine learning methods can have for the human interpretation of late medieval charters as means to convey authority, esp. regarding their graphical aspects

This poster presents the proposal for a web-based tool designed to create graph-based digital commentaries. The tool is based on the Web Annotation Data Model and allows collaboration of several users in the preparation of a commentary.

The poster will report on a new edition of Peter of Poitiers' "Compendium historiae". The highly visual chracter of the work makes editing a challenging task and the project team will report on preliminary work during the first year and present an outlook on future work and the project goals.

In this paper we tackle the improvement of so called spatial stable word clouds. Specifically the improvements target the performance, layout and a generalization to synchronize clouds for multiple, collated text witnesses. This allows the spatial stable word clouds to be used in interactive applications and especially in tools for scholarly editions.

This poster proposal presents a project whose results are the linguistic annotation of ancient Greek bibliographic references with a focus on Named Entity Recognition related to author names and work titles, in order to produce new dynamic text-based tools that are not available in existing indices and catalogs.

Digital editions, text collections, and lexical resources each have their own tradition in the (digital) humanities and at the same time, the data domains also share common methods and practices of indexing, modeling, and analysis. The Text+ consortium in the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI)is dedicated to the handling of research data in the three aforementioned research domains and is exploring methods and practices of cross-domain use of datasets and the resulting collaboration between research fields. The poster shows the connections between the three data domains in Text+ using a concrete example: the edition of letters by the German writer Jean Paul (Jean Paul Friedrich Richter, 1763–1825) of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW). The poster was accepted and presented at the DH2023 conference in Graz.

The presentation discusses the notion of a "Proto-edition" which combines a pure visual representation of text with a deep description skipping the transcription of the text. It relates it theoretical models like Patrick Sahle's text wheel (2013) and the use of artificial Intelligence for creating "artifical editions" (Stutzmann at IMC 2019).

The poster aims to present (and discuss) the networking approach of the edition humboldt digital, which make extensive use of external data and web services.

This workshop will help participants make audio, video, and its interpretations more discoverable and usable through the use of the IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework) standard for audio and video to produce, publish, and sustain W3C Web Annotations for individual and collaborative audiovisual editions, exhibits, and playlists. The workshop format will include introductions to IIIF, AudiAnnotate, Audacity, and GitHub using model, collaborative AudiAnnotate projects called the "SpokenWeb Anthology," made from recordings from the SpokenWeb Consortium and "Radio Venceremos, the Rebel's Radio Station," which features recordings from Radio Venceremos ("Radio We Will Overcome"), a popular, clandestine radio station that the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) created to broadcast news and analysis from the mountains of Morazán, El Salvador during the eleven year Salvadoran Civil War (1981-1992).
