Objective: Decreased bone density and strength increase the risk of fracture and thus the rates of morbidity and mortality. L-carnitine (LC) is a supplement commonly used by individuals who participate in sports, especially to increase muscle mass. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of LC on bone strength. Materials and Methods: In our main study 10 male Wistar rats per group, a tendon injury model was applied by clamping the left Achilles tendons of rats except the control group. LC (100 mg/kg/day) was administered intraperitoneally every day for 5 weeks in the pre-LC group and for 4 weeks in the post-LC group. LC was not given to the control group. Apart from to our main study, remaining right os femurs of rats were extracted at the end of the experiment to test bone strength to reduce the number of animals used in scientific research. 3-D bending test was performed on the extracted bones using a Zwick Roell Z0.5 mechanical testing machine. Results: There were no significant differences among the groups in the parameters and measurements used to evaluate bone strength (p>0.05). Colon and stool samples were collected from a total of 200 animals, 10 mice, 10 rats and 10 gerbils, from separate cages randomly selected between the ages of 15-22 weeks from each of the 11 licensed experimental animal facilities.From the DNA obtained, Helicobacter spp. 16S ribosomal RNA gene was determined by PCR method, and positive samples were determined by Multiplex PCR.The prevalence of Helicobacter spp. in mice was 90.91%.According to the species-based PCR results of the positive samples, the most common species was H. rodentium with a prevalence of 90.91%. In the study in which H. bilis and H. muridarum species were not detected in any facility, it was determined that H. typhlonius was the second most common species with a prevalence rate of 72.73%, followed by H. hepaticus with a prevalence of 27.27%. The prevalence of Helicobacter spp. in rats was 87.5%. According to the PCR results of the positive samples, the most common species was H. rodentium with a prevalence of 87.5%.In the study where H. bilis, H. hepaticus and H. muridarum species were not detected in any facility, H. typhlonius was the second common species with a prevalence of 12.5% in rats. On the other hand, only H. rodentium and H. typhlonius were detected in the colon samples taken from a single facility containing gerbils. It was determined that Helicobacter spp., which causes infections in experimental animals, especially subclinical, is quite common in the study area. It is recommended that the Experimental Animal facilities moniterize for this agent.

Diabetes mellitus is a group of chronic metabolic conditions, all of which are characterized by elevated blood glucose levels resulting from the body's inability to produce insulin or resistance to insulin action, or both. Insulin is the main hormone that regulates glucose production and use by body tissues and organs. Diabetes affects all systems in the body, including the liver. Streptozotocin is an antibiotic that performs pancreatic β-cell destruction and is widely used to induce experimental diabetes. In this study; It was aimed to calculate the volume and cell numbers of the morphometric changes caused by streptozotocin-induced diabetes in the rat liver using stereological methods. Twenty adult male rats were used in the study. Four groups were created randomly. Blood glucose values of all groups were measured. Diabetes was induced by administering different doses of streptozotocin (55 mg/kg and 65 mg/kg). After 48 hours, blood glucose values were measured again. Four weeks later, liver tissues of all rats from the control and experimental groups were taken under anesthesia and fixed in 10% formaldehyde. The fixed liver tissues were divided into equal parts by physical fractionation. It was fixed in paraffin after passing through dehydration stages. Histological sections were prepared. It was stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin, examined under a light microscope and photographed. The total volume of the liver was calculated using the Cavalieri Principle and the number of hepatocytes was calculated with the unbiased counting frame of the dissector method. In the diabetes-related groups, the increase in liver volume and cell number was significant compared to the control group (p<0.05). As a result, streptozotocin injection and the resulting diabetes lead to an increase in liver volume and hepatocyte numbers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the development of surgical technologies, intraabdominal adhesions are one of the most important problems for infertility, abdominopelvic pain, and intestinal obstruction. This study was aimed the efficiency of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) on preventing postoperative intraabdominal adhesions. In this study, 25 male Sprak Dawley breed rats of 4 months old were used. They were divided into 2 groups equally. Five rats were used as donor and obtained PRP. Following general anesthesia and under routine procedures, all groups were traumatized 1 cm² area on the ileocecal region while group 1 was served as control with no chemical, the group 2 was locally applied PRP. Relaparatomy was made on the 14 days after surgery The results were evaluated macroscopically and histopathologically. Adhesion and fibrosis scores of PRP group were observed to have significantly decreased compared to the control (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in inflamation between the PRP and control groups (p>0.05). N. Sativa, a botanical specimen with an extensive medical history, has been historically employed by ancient Egyptian and Greek medical doctors to alleviate diverse afflictions and maladies. The plant contains a key bioactive component referred to as thymoquinone. Our study aims to assess the potential effects of thymoquinone, which impacts various diseases, on the stomach following oral gavage administration at different dosages. This assessment will be conducted in vivo and employ histochemical and immunohistochemical methods. A total of 21 rats of the Sprague-Dawley strain were used as the study material. The rats were divided into three groups: Experimental Group 1 (10 mg/kg gavage), Experimental Group 2 (20 mg/kg gavage), and the control group, each consisting of seven rats. Thymoquinone was administered to the experimental groups via oral gavage at 10 mg/kg and 20 mg/kg daily for forty-two days. As a result of this study demonstrated the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-2 and IL-4, which are effective in the immune system in the stomach in vivo. Distinct levels of immune reactions have been observed in the gastric mucosae of all groups of rats. Thus, it has been concluded that different doses of thymoquinone do not render cytokines inactive; however, variations are contingent upon the type and dosage of cytokine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Nigella sativa plant has a very long medical history. It has been used by ancient Egyptians for many purposes. Studies have reported that the plant has antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, antidiabetic, antioxidant, and immunomodulation effects. The main active ingredient of the plant is a substance called thymoquinone. The aim of the present study was to investigate the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects of thymoquinone on rat liver and kidneys. Rats were shared into 5 groups the first group (1 mg/kg thymoquinone, intraperitoneally), the second group (2 mg/kg thymoquinone, intraperitoneally), the third group (10 mg/kg thymoquinone, gavage), the fourth group (20 mg/kg thymoquinone, gavage), and control group. The groups contained 7 rats and the experiment continued for 42 days. The localization and expression of interleukin 2, interleukin 4, interferon gamma, and tumor necrosis factor alphain the liver and kidneys are shown in vivo, and the immunomodulation effects of thymoquinone in the system have been shown. The effects of thymoquinone differ according to the cytokine type, administration methods, and dose. As a result, the present findings demonstrated that the immunomodulatory effect of thymoquinone on the liver and kidneys varies according to the organ, application method, and application dose. For interleukin 2, the most effective form of administration in the liver is intraperitoneal and low dose; for kidneys, it is a low-dose gavage administration. For interleukin 4, low-dose gavage administration has been observed to be more effective in the liver and kidneys. Similarly, it is concluded that especially 10 mg/kg gavage applications are more effective for liver and kidneys in interferon gamma and tumor necrosis factor alpha expressions. Purpose: Lactoferrin is a member of the milk protein family with a broad spectrum of bioactivities and has therapeutic effects against many microbes, viruses, and other pathogens. This study aims to show the healing effect of lactoferrin against obesity-related wound healing. Materials and Methods: In this study, 48 male rats were grouped as the Control (C) (n =8), Full-thickness skin defect model (FT) (n =8), Bovine Lactoferrin (bLf) (200 mg/kg) (n= 8), High Fat Diet (HFD) + Bovine Lactoferrin (bLf) (n = 8), High-Fat Diet (HFD)+Full-thickness skin defect model (FT) (n=8), and HFD+Full-thickness skin defect model (FT) + Bovine Lactoferrin bLf (n=8). High-Fat Diet + bLf and High-Fat Diet + Full-thickness skin defect + bLf group rats were given a high-fat diet and Bovine Lactoferrin orally. IL-6 and VEGF biochemical parameters were examined in serum. Results: When the serum IL-6 protein amounts of the groups were examined, it was the highest in the HFD+FT+bLf group on the 21st day, and the lowest in the FT group, when the serum VEGF protein amounts, which were the other biochemical parameters, were evaluated, these amounts were found to be the highest in the HFD+FT+bLf group and the lowest in the FT group on the 21st day. Conclusion: Lactoferrin has been shown to accelerate wound healing, and the fact that lactoferrin is readily available and abundant in milk makes it an exciting treatment option for wound healing and inflammation in the future. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the possible protective effects of Ellagic acid (EA) on alpha-naphthylthiourea (ANTU)-induced pulmonary toxicity. Material and Method: The control group was given normal saline for 9 days, and the sham group was given a single intraperitoneal (i.p.) ANTU solvent (olive oil) on the 9th day. The ANTU group was injected with a single dose of ANTU (10 mg/kg-i.p.) on the 9th day of the study. The ANTU+ EA group was injected with EA (10 mg/kg-i.p.) for 9 days. The volume of effusion fluid, lung and body weights, and forced swimming test scores of rats in all groups were recorded. Results: When the ANTU group was compared with the groups without ANTU, significant differences (p <0,001) were found in terms of Pleural Effusion (PE), Lung weight (AA), AA/Body Weight (AA/VA) and PE/VA. It was observed that a statistically significant decrease (p <0.001) was found in the PE, AA, PE/VA, and AA/VA values of rats supplemented with EA (ANTU+EA) compared to the ANTU group. Also, a statistically significant decrease (p <0.001) was found in the forced swimming test times of the rats in the ANTU group compared to the rats in the control and sham groups. Moreover, it was evidenced that a statistically significant increase (p <0,001) was observed in the forced swimming test scores of the rats in the ANTU+EA group compared to those in the ANTU group. Conclusion: Data show that EA supplementation increases lung ventilation capacity by suppressing edema and effusion resulting from ANTU toxicity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the effect of boric acid (BA) on blood sugar levels, vitamins and minerals in Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes in rats was investigated. In the study, 48 male Wistar albino rats (200-220 g) were divided into 6 groups, no special treatment was administered to Group1, experimental diabetes was induced by administering STZ (45 mg/kg) through intraperitoneal (IP) injection to other groups. Group 2 diabetes; Group 3 (6 U/kg insulin) insulin; Group 4; 250 ppm, group 5; 500 ppm and group 6 1000 ppm BA mixed with their feed. Blood glucose levels of all groups were quantified from blood taken from the tail vein every week. At the end of study, the rats were sacrificed and their blood was taken. The serum levels of vitamins A, E, and minerals were studied. When compared with other groups, blood glucose levels of groups 4, 5 and 6 were found to be increased (p<0.05). When compared to the baseline values, it was found that Vitamin A in the group 2 and 4, vitamin E in the group 4, Cu in the group 4, 5, 6, Zn, Mg and Na in the group 2 decreased and Fe in the group 2 increased. While Ca and P decreased in groups 5 and 6, no change was observed in Al in all groups. As a result, it has been observed that boron has a hyperglycemic effect when evaluated together with vitamins and minerals in diabetic rats. Objective: The goal of this research was to determine whether cerium oxide could protect against kidney tissue damage in rats given sevoflurane anesthesia. Material and Methods: After the approval of the Ethics Committee, study was conducted in Gazi University Animal Research Laboratory, Ankara, Turkey, in April 2019. 24 rats were divided into 4 groups: control group (C), cerium oxide group (CO), sevoflurane group (S), and cerium oxide-sevoflurane group (COS). 0.5 mg/kg doses of intraperitoneal cerium oxide was administered to the CO and COS groups 30 minutes before the procedure. Sevoflurane (2.3%) was administered to the S and COS groups for 3 hours. Histopathological and biochemical parameters were then analyzed. Results: Malondialdehyde (MDA) level and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were significantly higher in group S than in group C and CO. On the other hand, MDA level and SOD activity were significantly lower in group COS than in group S. Tubular dilatations markedly increased in group S and COS compared to group C (p=0.002, p=0.009, respectively). Tubular dilatation was also significantly higher in group S than in group CO. Tubular cell necrosis were significantly higher in all groups than in group C. Tubular cell necrosis was also significantly higher in group S compared to group CO. Bowman's space dilatations were significantly higher in groups S and COS compared to the C group. Bowman's space dilatation was also significantly higher in group S than in group CO. Tubular cell shedding was significantly higher in group S compared to group C and CO. Tubular cell necrosis and cell shedding were found to be significantly lower in group COS than in group S. Conclusion: We conclude that pretreatment of rats with a single intraperitoneal dose of cerium oxide nanoparticles is safe to prevent kidney damage caused by sevoflurane anesthesia in rats. Purpose: Cyclophosphamide (CP) is an antineoplastic agent. It is used in the treatment of many types of cancer. Rosmarinic acid (RA) exhibits remarkable biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antibacterial, and antimicrobial effects. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of rosmarinic acid against CP-induced nephrotoxicity. Materials and Methods: Eighteen male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 equal groups; Sham group (n=6): 0.9% saline solution/8 days/oral gavage + 0.9% saline solution/8th day/intraperitoneal, CP group (n=6): 0.9% saline solution/8 days/oral gavage + 200 mg/kg/8th day/intraperitoneal CP, and CP+RA group (n=6): 100 mg/kg/8 days/oral gavage RA + 200 mg/kg/8th day/intraperitoneal CP was applied. Hematoxylin and Eosin, Periodic Acid-Schiff, and Masson's Trichrome staining were performed on the collected tissues Results: Histopathological evaluation revealed tubular atrophy, glomerular damage, vascular congestion, vacuolization, and interstitial inflammation in the CP group. Histopathological scores were significantly lower in the CP+RA group compared to the CP group. Intertubular fibrosis was observed in the CP group compared to the Sham group. Fibrosis decreased with rosmarinic acid. PAS-stained sections from the CP group showed tubular epithelial vacuolization, brush border, and basal membrane disruption. These findings decreased with rosmarinic acid. The increased blood urea nitrogen level in the CP group was lower in the CP+RA group, while the decreased SOD level in the CP group was higher in the CP+RA group. Conclusion: RA has protective effects against CP causing tubular atrophy, glomerular damage, vascular congestion, vacuolization, and interstitial inflammation in the kidney. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many health problems are seen due to aging. One of these is problems in the reproductive system. Reproductive system problems are caused by lower urinary system symptoms, prostate diseases, low fertility, testicular dysfunction. The aim of this study was to compare reproductive parameters of geriatric (3 years old) and young (3 months old) rats. A 3-year-old rat is equivalent to an average 90-95-year-old human. For this purpose, sperm analysis, testicular and prostate histopathology, testicular oxidative stress parameters were examined in geriatric (3 years old) and young (3 months old) rats. In the analysis results, it was determined that sperm motility ratio decreased (p<0.001), abnormal sperm ratio increased (p<0.001) and sperm density decreased (p<0.001) in the geriatric group. Statistically, oxidative stress parameters MDA, AOPP, T-SH levels increased (p<0.05) and CAT level decreased (p<0.05) in geriatric group. Histopathologically, degeneration, necrosis and irregular alignments were observed in the tubulus seminiferous contortus in the geriatric group. Hyperplasia and dilatation of the prostate gland were detected in the geriatric group. The study was conducted to investigate how Ferula rigidula extract affected sperm profile, antioxidant parameters, and stereological profile in experimental diabetic rats. Performed on forty-nine male rats. The rats were randomly assigned to control group, diabetic group, diabetic + Ferula rigidula group 1, diabetic + Ferula rigidula group 2, diabetic + glibenclamide group, Ferula rigidula group 1, and Ferula rigidula group 2. While sperm count, motility, antioxidant parameters, testosterone hormone, germinal epithelial volume, and germinal epithelial height decreased in the diabetic group, abnormal sperm count, malondialdehyde level, and lumen volume increased. When Ferula rigidula (extract) was given to diabetic rats, it brought the stereological findings to the same level as the control group. In addition, it was determined that there were improvements in biochemical parameters, approaching the values of the control group. Specifically, when Ferula rigidula extract was administered alone, testosterone levels and stereological findings improved in group 1. In addition, it was determined that there were significant improvements in sperm parameters. However, it was determined that the positive effect of Ferula rigidula extract was very significant at low doses (250 mg/kg) and decreased at high doses (500 mg/kg). As a result, Ferula rigidula extract has an antioxidant role and can be used to alleviate the problems caused by diabetes in the male reproductive system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the effects of topiramate on pancreatic islets of Langerhans cells in Methotrexate-related pancreatic injury. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted between 04 July - 24 July 2022 in the Animal Research Unit of Recep Tayyip Erdogan University. Male Spraque-Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups with 8 animals in each group. Control group (C) (Only 0.9% saline was administered). A single dose of 20mg/ kg Methotrexate was administered to the MTX group (MTX). The TPM group (TPM) was administered 100 mg/kg/day Topiramate by oral gavage for a total of 14 days, 7 days before and after Methotrexate administration. All subjects were euthanized by anesthesia 16 hours after the last Topiramate dose. Results: We observed widespread edematous areas and necrotic cells in the islets of Langerhans in the MTX. We found that necrotic cells and edematous areas were decreased in the TPM compared to the MTX. We found fewer β cells showing insulin positivity in the MTX compared to the controls (p<0.05). We observed an increase in insulin-positive β-cells in the TPM compared to the MTX (p<0.05). We observed a significant decrease in the number of cells showing glucagon positivity in the MTX compared to the controls (p<0.05). We observed an increased number of α cells showing glucagon positivity in the TPM compared to the MTX (p<0.05). We found that the HDS increased from 0(0-1) in the control group to 6(6-8) in the MTX (p<0.05). It was found as 2(2-3) in the TPM (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our study shows that topiramate has a protective effect on pancreatic islet cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The blood-brain barrier is an electromagnetic mechanism on a neurophysical basis. In this study, we compared the X-Ray device, which is similar to the blood-brain barrier in many ways. Material and Methods: We collected brain samples from deep temporal cortex sections of ten rats, stained them via the glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) technique, visualized the architectural structures of the blood-brain barriers, and compared them with X-ray devices. Results: With the arterioles forming the tube blood-brain barrier in the X-ray device, the anode-cathode that provides the electric current and determines the direction of the current flow corresponds to the astrocytes surrounding the anode-cathode vessel, the cooling system to the cerebrospinal fluid circulating the vessel, and the electrons emitted from the cathode to the particles flowing in the vessel. Conclusion: With the architecture presented by the blood-brain barrier, we envision it functioning as an X-Ray and optical reader that display objects in passenger baggage and direct them according to barcode numbers.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the protective effect of resveratrol on cisplatin induced damage in rat kidney. Materials and Methods: 30 female Wistar-Albino rats were allocated to form three groups: In group 1 (control group), 1 mL of 0.9% NaCl (saline) was administered intraperitoneally for 3 days. In group 2 (cisplatin group), 7.5 mg / kg intraperitoneal cisplatin was given for 3 days. In group 3 (cisplatin + resveratrol group) 7.5 mg / kg cisplatin and 10 mg / kg resveratrol were given via intraperitoneal route. Right kidneys were surgically extirpated in all groups. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and activities of catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were measured in both blood and tissues. Also, toxicity markers such as vascular congestion, hemorrhage, tubule degeneration and glomerular damage were assessed by examining the slides prepared from kidney tissue with microscopy. Results: Tissue damage was significantly higher in group 2 than other groups. The MDA levels were significantly higher and the activities of SOD, and CAT were lower in group 2 than other groups. Conclusion: According to our short term findings, resveratrol might be an effective molecule to prevent the harmful effect of cisplatin in rat kidney.

Purpose: Chronic otitis media (COM) is one of the common infectious diseases of the middle ear caused by bacterial or viral pathogens. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of boric acid (BA) in the treatment of COM by comparing topical 4% and 8% BA applications with systemic ciprofloxacin in a Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) inoculation-induced model of COM in rats. Materials and Methods: Forty-two Sprague Dawley rats were divided into seven equal groups. The COM model was created with P. aeruginosa. Clinical, histopathological and, immunohistochemical comparisons were performed between the control, COM, topical 4% and 8% BA treatment, a systemic ciprofloxacin treatment, and topical 4% and 8% BA contact groups. Results: In the COM model, moderate edema, inflammation, degeneration and moderate tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) expression were detected with the application of 4% BA. Mild edema, inflammation, degeneration, and mild TNF-α expression were detected with 8% BA application. Conclusion: Both 4% and 8% BA treatment provided significant clinical, histopathological and immunohistochemical improvement. The application of 8% BA was found to exhibit greater therapeutic efficacy, with no harmful effect on the middle ear mucosa.

Acetaminophen (APAP) is an antipyretic and analgesic drug that can be bought and used without a prescription worldwide. A dosage of APAP greater than the maximum recommended dosage can increase the risk of organ damage. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are isolated from various human tissues and used for therapy, in which beneficial effects are attributed mainly to mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs). However, no study has focused on the protective effect of exosomes in combination with APAP. Therefore, the present study was carried out to investigate the protective effect of taking exosomes against APAP toxicity on the fallopian tubes and uterus. Forty female Wistar albino rats (12-14 weeks old) were randomly divided into four equal groups: control, APAP (received 1 g/kg APAP), exosome (received 30 µg of exosomes), and APAP+exosome groups that received simultaneously 1 g/kg APAP and were followed three days later by a tail vein injection 30 µg of exosomes. The uterus and fallopian tubes were removed for histological and immunohistochemical analyses after the animals were sacrificed. The results showed that exosomes' administration after APAP decreased APAP's autophagic effects. Moreover, exosome treatment exhibited a protective effect on the immunoreactivity intensities of autuphagy markers (Beclin-1, p62, and LC3). The treatments with exosomes had no adverse effect on the uterus or fallopian tubes. The administration of exosomes after APAP toxicity can decrease cell death through the autophagy effect of APAP. It is suggested that this compound can decrease the toxic effects of APAP. Further studies are needed to evaluate the molecular mechanism of this hyperanalgesic effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: In the present study, the effect of 2600 MHz radiofrequency radiation (RFR) exposure, and melatonin treatment on skin and liver tissue hydroxyproline (Hyp) levels were evaluated. Methods: In the study, 2600 MHz RFR application was performed by Rohde & Schwartz Radiofrequency signal generator via ETS-Lindgren horn antenna. 36 Wistar albino male rats were randomly divided into 6 groups (n = 6); Control, sham, RFR, control + Melatonin, Sham + Melatonin, RFR + Melatonin. RFR was applied to the related groups for 30 days (5 days/week) for 30 minutes a day. Average electric field value is 21.74 V / m. Melatonin groups were subcutaneously injected with melatonin (10 mg/kg) for 30 days. At the end of the experiment, Hyp levels were measured in the skin and liver tissues. Results: Hyp levels in skin tissue decreased significantly in RFR treated groups compared to the control and sham groups (p <0.05). Also, Hyp levels in skin tissue decreased significantly in RFR + melatonin treated group compared to the control, sham and sham+melatonin groups. No changes in Hyp levels in liver tissue were determined. Conclusion: In this study, RFR exposure leads to significant changes in skin Hyp levels but not liver tissue. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the healing impact of an ointment derived from the Alkanna tinctoria plant upon Pseudomonas aeruginosa-induced infections. Material and Methods: In this study, 18 male adolescent rats (mean age 6 weeks) weighed an average of 180 g were used. Animals were divided into 3 groups. Group 1: Control group (consisting of burns, no treatment was done), Group 2 (P. aeruginosa): Burn was created and infected with P. aeruginosa, Group 3 (Cream): P. aeruginosa was used to infect the burns area and the herbal mixture was administered twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Under anesthesia, the backs of the rats were shaved, and a specially produced steel bar with a diameter of 1*1 cm was immersed in boiling water for 15 seconds before being applied to their backs for 20 seconds. The burned area was subsequently infected with the ATCC Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain, and samples were collected 24 hours later. To detect bacterial growth in this area, the samples were inoculated on blood and EMB (Eosin Methylene Blue) media in a microbiology laboratory. After inoculation, the animals were placed in separate sterile cages and randomly divided into three groups. Once the growth was observed, the tissue and blood samples were harvested from the rats on the 2nd, 7th, 14th, and 21st days. Results: Epithelial regeneration in this group was more prominent. Vascularization was remarkable on the 2nd day, especially in the group in where we induced a burn and applied the ointment. VEGF levels increased more in the ointment group than in that of others. On the 2nd day of the study, the average bacterial count was 105 in sample of both 2nd and 3rd groups. At the end of the study, while the average of bacterial count was increased in the 2nd group, the average of bacterial count was decreased in the 3rd group. Conclusion: It was concluded that the ointment obtained from A. tinctorial successfully repaired the epithelial tissue and contributed to the healing of wounds by modifying increasing VEGF in the blood. Objective Acrylamide (ACR) is a harmful organic reactive compound widely used in different industrial fields. Selenium (SEL) is a trace element that takes part in some chemical and enzymatic reactions in both animals and human organisms and can cause some disorders in many systems such as the cardiovascular system in case of deficiency. The aim of this study is to investigate whether SEL has a protective effect on cardiac tissue in experimentally induced ACR toxicity in rats. Material and Method A total of 28 rats were randomly and equally divided into four groups: Control, SEL, ACR, SEL + ACR. At the end of the study, cardiac markers such as creatine kinase MB (CKMB), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) from blood samples were measured. Oxidative stress markers such as total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) in heart tissue were analyzed. In addition, inducible nitric oxide synthase iNOS activities were determined in heart sections using immunohistochemical methods. Results The ACR + SEL group showed a significant decrease in TOS, OSI, CKMB, LDH, IMA levels and significant increase in TAS level compared to the ACR group. In histopathological and immunohistochemical evaluation of the heart sections; Disorganization in cardiac muscle fibers, increased connective tissue between muscle fibers and irregular eosinophilia in muscle fibers were detected in ACR group. A decrease in histopathological findings was observed in the SEL treated groups compared to the ACR group. iNOS immunoreactivities; moderate marking was observed in the ACR group sections, while poor marking was observed in the ACR + SEL group. Conclusion We determined that ACR caused damage to the heart tissue of rats through various metabolic pathways and that these damages were reversed in the groups given the SEL. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the potentially deleterious effect of in vivo high-fructose feeding of rats on ex vivo hemodynamic recovery and infarct size of isolated rat hearts subjected to low-flow ischemia and reperfusion. Methods: After feeding Sprague-Dawley male rats with a high-fructose (n=9), high-glucose (n=9) or a standard diet (n=9) for four weeks, the hearts were extirpated and perfused ex vivo with a Krebs-Henseleit solution for 15 min; thereafter the hearts were subjected to low flow (0.3 ml/min) ischemia during 30 min followed by 60 min reperfusion. Left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP), first derivative of pressure development during the contraction and relaxation phase and heart rate were recorded prior to ischemia and after reperfusion. Infarct area was measured at the end of the reperfusion period. Results: In isolated hearts, subjected to ex vivo low-flow ischemia followed by 60 min reperfusion, the relative myocardial infarct size did not differ between the three groups. Post-ischemic cardiac contractile recovery appeared to be complete in both the high-fructose and high-glucose group at 60 min reperfusion. In contrast, in the control group LVDP and left ventricular relaxation rate were still depressed at the end of 60 minutes of reperfusion. Conclusion: Feeding with a high-fructose diet of rats appears to have a positive effect on the recovery of left ventricular contractile function after low-flow ischemia, in comparison to a standard diet, without a difference in relative myocardial infarct size. Similar results were obtained in the high-glucose fed rats.

Purpose: While most studies of fluoxetine have focused on its effects on the cardio/cerebrovascular systems, what is known about its vasomotor effect is still limited. This study was planned to investigate the vasoactive effects of fluoxetine on smooth muscle in rat thoracic aortic rings in an experimental setup. Materials and Methods: 24 adult Wistar albino rats were divided into two groups. Group1-Endothelium intact group, Group2-Endothelium damaged group. Descending thoracic aorta was isolated after cervical dislocation. The aorta rings were immediately placed in organ bath chambers containing Krebs solution. Changes in isometric tension of aorta rings were recorded. Phenylephrine 10-6M was administered and contractions were recorded in groups. Then, fluoxetine was given to Group 1 in cumulative doses (0.01, 0.1, 1, 2 mM). Endothelial damage was created in Group 2. After controlling the endothelial damage by acetylcholine 10-6M, rings were washed for an hour and a second dose of phenylephrine was administered and then fluoxetine was given cumulatively to Group 2 and contractions were recorded. Results: While the dose-dependent main vasodilator effect of fluoxetine was significantly different [F (5.110) =72.740, p
