The Maraichine breed of cattle originates from the Loire region of France and has been under a conservation programme since 1986. This programme links the conservation of the breed with the conservation of its traditional environment of wet grasslands. In this case report, we describe the different steps of this programme, each of which had its own successes and challenges. We also describe how, throughout this process, researchers have been involved in the generation and dissemination of information covering areas such as stakeholder perspectives, animal performance, and socio-economics. Under the conservation programme, the Maraichine population has expanded in both size and scale. Simultaneously, stakeholder perspectives have also developed, continually shifting the balance between the productivity, conservation, and maintenance of heritage traits. The conservation programme also provided the opportunity to utilise the breed’s desirable traits, such as easy calving and disease resistance. Whilst the carcasses are not necessarily as valuable as those of other breeds, farmers have implemented novel economic practices to capitalise on market opportunities. Today, Maraichine cattle and Maraichine breeders offer researchers the opportunity to deepen and enrich our knowledge on sustainable ruminant livestock farming systems.

Cattle population history, breeding systems, and geographic subdivision may be reflected in runs of homozygosity (ROH), effective population size (Ne), and linkage disequilibrium (LD) patterns. Thus, the assessment of this information has become essential to the implementation of genomic selection on purebred and crossbred cattle breeding programs. In this way, we assessed the genotype of 19 cattle breeds raised in Brazil belonging to taurine, indicine, synthetic crossbreds, and Iberian-derived locally adapted ancestries to evaluate the overall LD decay patterns, Ne, ROH, and breed composition. We were able to obtain a general overview of the genomic architecture of cattle breeds currently raised in Brazil and other tropical countries. We found that, among the evaluated breeds, different marker densities should be used to improve the genomic prediction accuracy and power of genome-wide association studies. Breeds showing low Ne values indicate a recent inbreeding, also reflected by the occurrence of longer ROH, which demand special attention in the matting schemes to avoid extensive inbreeding. Candidate genes (e.g., ABCA7, PENK, SPP1, IFNAR1, IFNAR2, SPEF2, PRLR, LRRTM1, and LRRTM4) located in the identified ROH islands were evaluated, highlighting biological processes involved with milk production, behavior, rusticity, and fertility. Furthermore, we were successful in obtaining the breed composition regarding the taurine and indicine composition using single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data. Our results were able to observe in detail the genomic backgrounds that are present in each breed and allowed to better understand the various contributions of ancestor breeds to the modern breed composition to the Brazilian cattle.

Resumen: Los ovinos Pantaneiro tienen unas características peculiares, son animales de lana, pero no tienen lana en el vientre y miembros inferiores, son sexualmente precoces y no presentan estacionalidad reproductiva, producen canales de alto rendimiento, tienen piel de características intermedias, entre los ovinos de pelo y los ovinos de lana. Están muy adaptados a las condiciones del Bioma Pantanal, ya que su formación genética es el resultado de siglos de selección natural desde la llegada del primer ovino con los colonizadores. Este artículo reúne informaciones de investigaciones realizadas en los últimos quince años con este recurso genético. Se evaluaron medidas morfométricas y estandarización de la raza, teniendo en cuenta el origen genético, color, cabeza, orejas, cuello, tronco, piel, ubre, extremidades, vellón, cola y testículos, seguido de índices zootécnicos y las características productivas de la carne, la leche, lana y piel, destacando el grupo genético Pant aneiro como polivalente. Pantaneiro sheep have peculiar characteristics, they are wool animals, but they do not have wool in the belly and lower limbs, they are sexually precocious and do not present reproductive seasonality, they produce highyielding carcasses, they have skin of intermediate characteristics, among hair sheep and wool sheep. They are highly adapted to the conditions of the Pantanal Biome, since their genetic formation is the result of centuries of natural selection since the arrival of the first sheep with the colonizers. This article gathers information from research carried out in the last fifteen years with this genetic resource. Morphometric measures and standardization of the breed were evaluated, taking into account the genetic origin, color, head, ears, neck, trunk, skin, udder, extremities, fleece, tail and testicles, followed by zootechnical indices and the productive characteristics of the meat. Milk, wool and skin, highlighting the Pantaneiro genetic group as polyvalent. EnglishDisease management in conventional potato crops requires the use of larger amounts of phytosanitary products and increased toxicity with regard to organic cultivation which may pose a risk to human health and have a negative impact on the environment as well. The present study aimed to evaluate the yield and the reaction of potato genotypes to both late blight and to early blight under an organic system of cultivation. Eperiments were conducted in the field in the municipalities of Lages, SC and Quilombo, SC, south Brazil, during the crops of 2012/2013 and 2013/2014. The experimental design consisted of a randomized complete block design with 4 replications; The following eight local clones from the Santa Catarina mountain range (serra) were evaluated: SJ01273-1; SJ01251-1; SJ01213-1; SMSJ07344-54; SJ04510-1; SJ05621-11; SJ02411-5; and SJ04521-3; and 8 commercial cultivars were assessed as follows: Agate, Asterix, and Monalisa of Dutch origin; Panda of German origin; and BRS Ana, BRS Eliza, Cota, and Catucha of Brazilian origin. Incidence and severity of late blight and early bright and the weight and number of tubers produced were evaluated. Potato genotypes showed variability in terms of tuber production and disease resistance. The regional clone 15 and cultivars BRS Ana and Cota presented resistance to early blight and to late blight in both cultivated sites. Genotype 35 and cvs. Asterix and BRS Ana were the ones that had the largest productions. Genotype 35 was the most productive one among all genotypes/clones evaluated (16,926.81kg ha-1). There was variability between different local potato genotypes in terms of productivity potential and resistance to diseases under the organic system of cultivation. These findings showed that there is a source of resistance to genetic improvement programs. International audience; For several decades, the breeding organizations ruling the French dairy sheep breeds have developed efficient breeding programs aiming at improving the local breeds in their production area and system. This has led to an annual genetic gain ranging between 0.15 and 0.22 standard deviation unit, depending on the breed. The breeding programs have steadily included new selection criteria in addition to milk yield: milk quality, resistance to mastitis, udder morphology, scrapie resistance. Following the development and spread of genomic selection (GS) in dairy cattle in the early 2010, different research × development programs have assessed the feasibility of GS in dairy sheep: reference populations in each breed, genomic evaluation to improve GEBVs’ accuracy, conception, modelling and optimization of dairy-sheep-customized genomic breeding schemes. These achievements have resulted in the switch towards GS in 2015 in the Lacaune breed and in 2017 in the Pyrenean and Corsican breeds. This new era of GS has opened the way to great expectations. The increasing efficiency of the programs, even though not as dramatic as promised in cattle (20% additional genetic gain observed in the Lacaune breed 3 years after the starting point of GS) will make easier the inclusion of new traits in the upcoming years. In a context of feed resources autonomy and adaptation to climate changes, news traits will be related to: health resistance and resilience traits such as resistance to internal parasites, adaptation and rusticity traits such as longevity and lactation persistency, functional morphology such as feet and legs traits, feed efficiency, reproduction traits such as semen production, predicted milk fatty acid and protein composition allowed by MIR spectrometry, The breeding goals of the near future will aim at being more balanced and at improving both sustainability and cost-effectiveness of a dairy sheep production anchored in its production system and producing high quality PDO cheese. Finally, both genomic tools and balanced breeding goals will help to maintain the existing biodiversity by better managing the genetic variability of the breeds.

Perhaps no poetic genre is as central to the ‘Classical Tradition’ as is pastoral; at times, indeed, despite its ostensibly narrow and stylized terms of reference, pastoral seems to operate as the privileged space of European classicism, a genre into which everything Greek and Roman can be subsumed, and more besides. This paper takes as its case study the Adulescentia of Baptista Mantuanus (1447-1516): its readings of Mantuan’s early modern pastoral collection offer synecdochic glimpses of the reception-history of Virgil's Eclogues, and map the generic self-awareness of the Adulescentia itself.

This aesthetic transformation, therefore, especially in the case of women’s fashion and clothing for children, leading a deeper transformation of modern society, based on a freer socialization and the establishment of the Republic., La influencia de Rousseau sobre la cultura occidental de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII fue especialmente importante por la capacidad que tuvo de traducir sus conceptos filosóficos genéricos a ámbitos concretos de la vida cotidiana. Una parcela privilegiada en la que lo hizo fue la del diseño de ropa, donde rechazó el lujo y la moda en nombre de una estética rústica. Esta estética rústica era la manifestación de un cambio social y político. La sociedad nos coarta constantemente, sobre todo cuando nos indica cómo hemos de vestirnos. En usos como éste se basan los sistemas políticos autoritarios. Esta transformación estética, por lo tanto, sobre todo en el caso de la moda femenina y de la ropa para los niños, encabezaba una transformación más profunda de la sociedad moderna, basada en una socialización más libre y en la instauración de la República.

Les divers stress biotiques et abiotiques qu'un peuplement rencontre au cours de son cycle ont souvent comme effet majeur la réduction de la surface foliaire verte. Des travaux préliminaires ont montré une certaine stabilité de la relation entre l’indice foliaire vert intégré pendant le remplissage du grain (IFVI) et le rendement. Ce projet avait pour objectif d'utiliser l'IFVI pour mettre au point un indicateur global de phénotypage "multistress", afin de caractériser le comportement variétal dans différents environnements et ITK. Il devait également approfondir la notion de tolérance, consistant au maintien des performances en présence de stress avéré, et jusqu'ici mal séparée du potentiel de rendement. En mobilisant des acteurs de la recherche (INRA, Lasalle), du développement (Arvalis) et du secteur privé (Saaten Union), une base de données importante a été construite. Les résultats de stations expérimentales ont permis l’élaboration de l’indicateur, tandis que son automatisation "haut débit" était travaillée par ailleurs. Le réseau INRA "ITK blés rustiques" a permis l'évaluation de l'ensemble. On distinguera une tolérance intrinsèque, qui ne dépend que du niveau d’IFVI, donc du potentiel de la culture, et une tolérance spécifique, réponse variétale à un changement de milieu ou d'ITK. Potentiel et rusticité sont largement indépendants, et peuvent donc être sélectionnés conjointement. Par contre notre base de données suggère un trade-off entre les composantes de la rusticité: tolérance, et résistance + échappement, soulignant le besoin de recherche dans ce domaine. A terme, l'indicateur proposé pourra être utilisé pour caractériser les variétés les plus adaptées à un milieu donné et pour aider à la conception de couverts de céréales écologiquement intensifs., Wheat crops undergo multiple biotic or abiotic stresses during their development cycle, the main effect of which is a reduction of green leaf area. Preliminary studies showed a stable relationship between Area Under the Green Leaf Area Index (AUGLAI) during the grain filling period and yield. This study aims at establishing a global index characterizing multi stress effects to assess genotype response to environments and practices. It would help identifying if tolerance (i.e. the capacity to maintain yield in stressed crops) and yield potential could be separated. Thanks to the collaboration of research (INRA, Lasalle), development (Arvalis) and industry (Saaten Union), a large data basis was built. The results in experimental stations made it possible to develop an index, while its "high-throughput" automation was tested elsewhere. Overall evaluation was obtained in the INRA network "ITK Blés rustiques". Our work enabled distinguishing between an intrinsic tolerance, only dependent on the AUGLAI level, i.e. of the yield potential, and a specific tolerance, that characterizes a genotypic response to change in environment or agricultural practice. On the one hand, yield potential and losses due to stresses were found largely independent, and could be jointly selected in plant breeding. On the other hand, our data basis suggests a tradeoff between (resistance + escape) and tolerance, underlying the needs for further research. The proposed index of multi stress tolerance appears useful both to characterize varieties best suited to any given environment and to help designing ecologically intensive cereal crops.

The paper attempts a partial revision of common views about the rustic character of the typical Russian city. Extensive analysis of historical material, especially the Old Russian, indicates typical for the rural way of life, and their appearance is inconceivable otherwise than as a purely urban symbiosis of a (European) landscape and the surrounding wilderness. The author names two reasons for this state of things: first, the economic – poor division of labor and private property, and second, the aesthetic – taking into account in the construction of cities not only pragmatic (economic, military-strategic, political) factors, but also the factor of picturesque, which in Russia meant binding the creations of human civilization and the beauty and power of the wild nature. Outside and inside the urban space a continuous dialogue of a rural element close to nature with that in the life of Russian cities in fact an important role was played by the elements which were a fully European city element. These contradictory elements had taken their toll on the inhabitants of cities simultaneously or alternately, as in the musical counterpoint.

Žinių visuomenėje žmogus, jo gebėjimai, žinios, sveikata tampa svarbesni už gamtos ar žmonių sukauptą materialųjį turtą. Nuo to, kokiu žmogiškuoju kapitalu disponuoja individai, priklauso paties individo, organizacijos, regiono ir valstybės konkurencingumas, plėtra, darnus vystymasis. Jo kiekis ir kokybė lemia šalies ar jos regiono vystymąsi. Todėl mokslininkai siekia išmatuoti žmogiškąjį kapitalą, apibrėžti jį apibūdinančius rodiklius. Lietuvoje žmogiškasis kapitalas socialinių ir kitų mokslų atstovų daugiau nagrinėjamas organizacijos lygmeniu. Regionų, miesto ir kaimo lygmeniu žmogiškasis kapitalas analizuotas nedaug. Svarbu ne tik žmogiškasis kapitalas, jo apimtis ir dinamika, bet ir tai, kaip jis veikia šalies ar regiono socialinį klimatą. Darbo tikslas - nustatyti ryšį tarp regiono kaimiškumo ir regiono žmogiškojo kapitalo dydžio. Įgyvendinant šį tikslą, buvo sprendžiami tokie uždaviniai: išanalizuoti žmogiškojo kapitalo sąvokos turinį užsienio ir Lietuvos mokslininkų darbuose; suformuoti rodiklių rinkinį, tinkamą žmogiškajam kapitalui matuoti regioniniu lygmeniu; identifikuoti žmogiškojo kapitalo raidos Lietuvos regionuose, atsižvelgiant į jų kaimiškumą, tendencijas. Apibendrinus įvairių šalių mokslininkų darbų žmogiškojo kapitalo tematika gerąją patirtį, buvo parengtas Lietuvos regionų žmogiškajam kapitalui vertinti rodiklių rinkinys, kurio pagrindu atlikti žmogiškojo kapitalo, jo panaudojimo ir poveikio regiono socialiniam kapitalui tyrimai. Regionai buvo išskirti remiantis EBPO kaimiškų regionų klasifikavimo principu. Individual, organizational, regional and national competitiveness, development, sustainable growth depends on the quality of human capital. Therefore, scientists seek to measure human capital, to define suitable indicators. In Lithuania human capital usually researches at organization level. For the human capital at national, rural-urban, regional levels researchers devote less attention. Human capital in the country is very important. It determines the quantity and quality of a country or a region's development. It is important not only human capital, its volume and dynamics, but also how it affects the country's or region's social climate. Objective of the study - to identify a link between the regions rurality level and human capital value. Goals of the study: to analyze the content of the concept of human capital in foreign and Lithuanian researchers works; to develop a set of indicators suitable for measuring human capital in regional level; to identify the trends of human capital development in regions of Lithuania. The set of indicators, suitable to measure human capital in regions was prepared. On the ground of it the potential of human capital in Lithuanian regions, the use of it and its impact on regional social capital of regions was measured. Lithuanian regions were defined basing on the OECD rural regions exclusion principle. The analysis of human capital in Lithuanian regions showed that the quantitative expression of human capital is decreasing in all regions of Lithuania, but in rural arkas is falling faster than in urban ones. The quality of human capital during the research period grew in all regions, but it was always lower in rural areas than in urban.

Millsp.) have been known for a long time. In small family production, units located in some settlement projects of agrarian reform, in Rio de Janeiro state, has been observed frequently this crop cultivation, and usually from seed multiplied by farmers on the spot. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of pigeon pea seeds produced for non-commercial personal use by family farmer seated agrarian reform and develop study on four harvest seasons, carried in pods "verdoengas" (yellowish green and greenish yellow) and brown, to obtain seeds non-commercial good physiological quality. The seeds acquired from family farmer seated agrarian reform were sown in 2011/02/03; seedling emergence occurred at 6 DAS, and the culture was then conveyed to the reproductive stage, when harvests were held in pods of four seasons at 140, 162, 169 and 177 DAS. The following determinations were made of: moisture content at harvest (Uc%) and storage (Ua%), average number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, seed yield per plant, yield, seed weigth and percentage germination and seed without heat treatment. The average Uc% was 44%, whereas the value obtained from seeds produced by brown pods was 22%, and remained Ua% average of 11% in four harvests for the two classes pods. Plants showed an average number of 62 pods / plant and pods, about four seeds / pod, the weight of a thousand seeds showed average value of 130g, with the figures derived from the seed pods were brown more high, around 142g/1000sementes, the average production of seeds per plant was 33g, the average yield was 1.300kg/ha the four harvest times, and the average of the last two harvests showed higher value, around 1.420kg/ha, the average germination rates of seeds that received heat treatment to break dormancy was 85%, while the seeds that did not receive this treatment, the average was 62%. Foram realizadas determina??es de grau de umidade no momento da colheita (Uc%) e no armazenamento (Ua%), n?mero m?dio de vagens por planta, n?mero de sementes por vagem, produ??o de sementes por planta, produtividade, massa de mil sementes e porcentagem de germina??o com e sem tratamento t?rmico de sementes. No. of bitstreams: 2 license_rdf: 0 bytes, checksum: d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e (MD5) cp112972.pdf: 10445840 bytes, checksum: 307877dbe74b4e31daf7a13d3ea1eca6 (MD5) O presente estudo teve como objetivo testar e propor metodologia para identificar e mensurar parâmetros baseados em aspectos mistos, fisiológicos, morfológicos e bioquímicos de fácil reconhecimento e potencial aplicabilidade em viveiros, para avaliação do grau de rusticidade de mudas de dois clones de eucalipto, ambos híbridos de Eucalyptus grandis X Eucalyptus urophylla, para plantio em duas sazonalidades no Estado do Espírito Santo. O estudo foi conduzido na empresa Aracruz Celulose S.A., no município de Aracruz, na região litorânea do Estado do Espírito Santo e realizado de forma integrada em três etapas: viveiro, laboratório e campo. No viveiro foi realizada a caracterização para as classes de plantas quanto à tonalidade das copas das mudas, índice de clorofila foliar, índice de fluorescência foliar, trocas gasosas, potencial hídrico e força de resistência à tração do caule. No laboratório foram determinados os teores de lignina e celulose caulinar, a quantidade de carboidratos, os teores de proteínas e a morfoanatomia. Esses parâmetros foram testados após o plantio das mudas no campo através da sobrevivência e crescimento em altura da parte aérea e diâmetro da base do caule. Variáveis climáticas também foram avaliadas durante todo o período experimental, a fim determinar a condição no ambiente de estudo. Os resultados de crescimento e sobrevivência no campo não demonstraram correlações das expressões dos parâmetros estudados com os padrões de melhor desempenho e adaptação das mudas no campo, para os dois clones testados nas duas sazonalidades de plantio. This study had as objective to test and propose methods of identifying and measuring of parameters based on mixed aspects, physiological, morphological and biochemical with easy recognition and potential applications in nurseries, to assess the degree of rusticity of cuttings of two eucalyptus clones, both hybrids of Eucalyptus urophylla X Eucalyptus grandis for planting in two seasonality in the Espírito Santo state. The study was conducted at Aracruz Celulose SA, Aracruz, in the coastal region of Espírito Santo and in an integrated out in three stages: nursery, laboratory and field. In the nursery was performed the characterize of the classes of plants on tonality of the canopy of trees, leaf chlorophyll index, leaf fluorescence index, gas exchange, water potential and resistance force to the stem traction. In the laboratory were determined the content of lignin and cellulose of the stems, amount of carbohydrates, protein content and morpho-anatomy. These parameters were tested after planting the cuttings in the field through the survival and height growth of the shoot and diameter of the base of the stem. Weather variables were also assessed throughout the trial period in order to determine the condition the study environment. Growth performance and survival in the field do not show correlations of the expressions of the parameters studied with the best standards of performance and adaptation of the cuttings in the field for the two clones tested in two seasonality of planting.
