Objectives The current study aimed to investigate whether pregnancy outcomes are affected by maternal rhesus (Rh) status by comparing the primigravida pregnancy outcomes of Rh-negative women with those of Rh-positive women. Methods The study data were collected from the Korea National Health Insurance Claims Database and the National Health Screening Program for Infants and Children. In total, 1,664,882 primigravida women who gave birth between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2014, were enrolled in this study. As the risk and severity of sensitization response increases with each subsequent pregnancy, only primigravida women were enrolled. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to Rh status, and the pregnancy outcomes were compared. Results In total, 1,661,320 women in the Rh-positive group and 3,290 in the Rh-negative group were assessed. With regard to adverse pregnancy outcomes, there was no statistically significant difference between the 2 groups in terms of the prevalence of preeclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, abruptio placenta, placenta previa, and uterine artery embolization. A univariate analysis revealed that none of the adverse pregnancy outcomes were significantly correlated to Rh status (preeclampsia: odds ratio [OR], 1.00, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.81–1.23; postpartum hemorrhage: OR, 1.10, 95% CI, 0.98–1.24; abruptio placenta: OR, 0.80, 95% CI, 0.46–1.37; and placenta previa: OR, 1.08, 95% CI, 0.78–1.42). The adjusted ORs of postpartum hemorrhage and preterm birth did not significantly differ. Conclusion Maternal Rh status is not associated with adverse outcomes in primigravida women.

Background: ABO blood group system has been clinically related to an increased incidence of cardiovascular diseases. Preliminary data relating Rhesus (Rh) factor and these outcomes also have been published. Our aim was to analyse the impact of blood group on the short and long-term outcomes after carotid endarterectomy (CEA)., Materials and Methods: From 2012 to 2019, patients from a referral centre who underwent CEA for atherosclerotic carotid stenosis were prospectively followed. Our primary outcomes were long-term major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) and all-cause mortality. Secondary outcomes were perioperative complications and myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery (MINS). Median follow-up was 50 months (interquartile range 21-69). Time-to-event analysis was used to determine the effect of ABO and Rh groups in long-term outcomes., Results: One hundred and eighty-four patients were included, with a mean age of 70.1 ± 9.1 years. Eighteen (25.7%) patients with O type and 48 (42.1%) patients with non-O type presented coronary artery disease (odds ratio [OR]: 2.313, 5-95% confidence interval (CI) 1.245-4.297, p  = .008). Patients Rh + presented significantly more congestive heart failure, 23 (14.7%), p  = .03. The incidence of MACE in the long-term was higher in non-O patients (adjusted hazard ratio: 2.034; CI: 1.032-4.010, p  = .040). Rh - patients, presented a higher incidence of perioperative MINS. However, there was no statistically significant association with long-term risk of MACE., Conclusion: The incidence of MACE in long-term analysis was higher in non-O blood type and 30-day MINS was significantly more common amongst Rh - patients. The benefit from a more complete preoperative cardiac study in these patients should be performed.

Background: Blood group of an individual is commonly determined by ABO & Rh status. The objectives of the study were to determine the frequency of ABO, Rh and ABO-Rh blood groups in students of Gomal Medical College, D.I.Khan, Pakistan. Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Community Medicine, Gomal Medical College, D.I.Khan, Pakistan from April 1 to May 23, 2019. The population being accessible was taken as sample. Sample size was 452. Our research variables (attributes) were ABO (A, B, AB, O), Rh (positive and negative) and ABO-Rh (A+, B+, AB+ O+, A-, B-, AB-, O-) respectively. All variables being nominal were described by count and percentage. The estimated parameters were given as confidence interval for proportion at 95% confidence level. The observed frequency of ABO, Rh and ABO-Rh blood groups was tested against their expected frequency using chi-square goodness of fit test. Results: Out of 452 students, the frequency of ABO blood group was; A 127 (28.12%), B 165 (36.53%), AB 57 (12.62%) & O 103 (22.73%); Rh blood group was; Rh+ 408 (90.33%) & Rh- 44 (9.67%) and ABO-Rh was; A+ 116 (25.60%), B+ 148 (32.05%), AB+ 50 (11.30%), O+ 91 (20.10%), A- 11 (2.40%), B- 17 (03.70%), AB- 7 (1.50%) & O- 12 (2.60%). The observed frequency of ABO & ABO-Rh blood groups was significantly different whereas of Rh blood group was similar to expected prevalence. Conclusion: In our population, most common blood group was B+ and the least common was AB-. The observed frequency of ABO & ABO-Rh blood groups was different while of Rh was same as expected. Awareness of blood groups in populations will help in the effective management of blood banks record in routine as well as during blood related life emergency situations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin disorders worldwide, affecting 85% of adolescents. Acne has significant effects on psychosocial and emotional health particularly in young patients with facial involvement. Much attention has been devoted to find different predisposing factors of acne vulgaris thus far. In this study, we evaluate the association of severe acne vulgaris with ABO and Rh blood groups. Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 500 consecutive patients with severe acne vulgaris referred to our university hospital dermatology clinic between April 2005 and April 2010. ABO and Rh blood groups of the patients were compared to the previously reported data of 1,300,000 healthy subjects from general population. Findings: Mean age of the patients was 24.11 ± 6.8 years (24.33 ± 6.9 years for women and 22.14 ± 5.0 years for men). Peak age of the disease presentation was 22 in both sexes. Distribution of ABO and Rh blood groups between male and female patients were not significantly different (P = 0.55 and P = 0.33, respectively). ABO blood group distribution among the patients was as follows: blood group O in 44%, A in 25.6%, B in 20.8% and AB in 9.6%. In addition, 92% of patients were Rh positive. When comparing patients with severe acne vulgaris to the control group, there was no statistically significant difference between groups according to ABO/Rh blood groups (P = 0.72 and P = 0.80, respectively). Conclusion: There was no association between ABO/Rh blood groups and the severe form of acne vulgaris. Further studies with greater sample size are recommended for confirming our findings.

Introduction. Correlation between Helicobacter pylori infection and blood group typing has been widely evaluated in both patients and healthy population. However, data addressing this correlation in hemodialysis patients are scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of anti-Helicobacter pylori and anticytotoxin-associated gene A (anti-Cag A) antigen antibodies and their correlations with ABO blood groups and rhesus blood group status in hemodialysis patients. Materials and Methods. In a cross-sectional study, serum samples of 151 hemodialysis patients were tested for anti-Helicobacter pylori IgG antibody. Anti-Cag A antibody (IgG antibody) was tested in Helicobacter pylori-positive patients. ABO blood groups typing and rhesus status were tested by hemagglutination test. Results. Prevalence of anti-Helicobacter pylori and anti-Cag A antibodies in Helicobacter pylori-positive patients were 65.6% (99 of 151) and 25.3% (25 of 99), respectively. Prevalence of anti-Helicobacter pylori and anti-Cag A antibodies were 69.1% and 36.8% in patients with blood group A, 42.3% and 9.1% in blood group B, 75.0 % and zero in blood group AB, 69.4% and 23.3% in blood group O, 59.0% and 30.6% in rhesus-positive status and 89.7% and 11.5% in rhesusnegative status, respectively. There was a significant correlation between the presence of anti-Helicobacter pylori and anti-Cag A antibodies and rhesus status, but no significant relation between ABO blood groups and anti-Cag A antibodies were found. Conclusions. Rhesus status may have an impact on the presence of anti-Helicobacter pylori and anti-Cag A antibodies. More investigations to address this correlation are necessary.
