The examination of gender in fieldwork highlights a need to provide attention to possible problematic instances that may arise between women interviewers and men participants. Qualitative research identifies that women interviewing men find themselves continually navigating power imbalances while attempting to negotiate safe environments for themselves. Gender in fieldwork predominately focuses on differences between interviewer and interviewees, with little understanding of similarities that contribute to shaping the research environment and research outcomes. This article draws on PhD research and my experience as a cisgender woman PhD student conducting interviews with cisgender men to demonstrate the multiple meaningful ways interviews are constructed and negotiated, including how both interviewer and interviewees draw on sameness in the field. I argue that gendered behaviours are not always obvious and problematic, but rather can be subtle, fluid and work to support shared understandings of the research topic. Rules and ethical considerations regarding research on embryo models have been debated across numerous countries. In this paper, we provide insights from our attitude survey conducted among Japanese researchers, including members of the Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine, and among the general public residing in Japan, the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia. Our survey revealed that many researchers expressed the need for clear guidelines for embryo model research. Furthermore, a minority but significant portion of the general public in each country expressed opposition to research on embryo models but did not oppose research involving real embryos.

The article aims to describe vulnerable groups in the context of qualitative research in social science with special attention to ethical and methodological dilemmas. This is a theoretical study, which does not aspire to offer solutions or guidelines, but rather show elements worth taking notice of and analyzing when research is planned and carried out. We argue that in the social sciences, vulnerability is relational and crucial. However, social science researchers perceive the category of vulnerability as ambiguous and nuanced. This article shows that ascribing research participants univocally to a vulnerable group may lead not only to them being stereotyped and deprived of individuality but also to a situation where the research act itself disempowers them. We also argue that apart from issues often raised concerning the protection of participants from vulnerable groups, the researcher and their protection are also pivotal, particularly when the researcher, due to their involvement, abandons the out-group perspective or when they belong to the vulnerable group.

Background: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSK) are a global burden causing significant suffering and economic impact. Systematic identification and targeting of research questions of highest interest for stakeholders can aid in improving MSK disorder knowledge and management. Objective: To obtain Swedish MSK researchers' opinions and views on a collaborative Swedish MSK network (SweMSK) and identify future research areas of importance for Swedish MSK research. Methods: A web‐based survey was conducted July to September 2021 to collect data from 354 Swedish MSK researchers. The survey focused on the need, objectives, and structure of a SweMSK network and identified prioritised areas for future MSK research. Results: The study included 141 respondents, of which 82 were associate professors or professors. The majority (68%) supported the creation of a new musculoskeletal network. The most supported element was increased collaboration regarding nationwide and multicenter studies. Respondents recommended the creation of a homepage and the establishment of national work groups with different specific interests as the primary elements of a new network. Conclusion: The results demonstrated a need and desire for increased national research collaboration and the creation of a new musculoskeletal network. The high academic experience and active research participation of the respondents suggest the need for MSK disorder knowledge and management improvement in Sweden. Therefore, the SweMSK network may help facilitate effective collaboration and research efforts that can contribute to the advancement of MSK disorder management and care. Research is increasingly important for the delivery of the best possible paediatric care and in the training of healthcare professionals. Many young clinicians are now looking for some way of becoming involved in research during their training, and some will wish to develop a formal academic component to their career or study for a higher postgraduate degree. Research funding is essential to enable high quality research, but training in how to apply for such funding is limited. While it is no substitute for detailed guidance and support from a trusted and experienced research colleague, this article aims to provide practical guidance for new researchers setting out to write their first grant proposal. It stresses the importance of being proactive in selecting the correct research environment, ensuring adequate support and supervision and identifying the necessary knowledge and expertise needed to deliver the project efficiently and effectively. It also highlights the important steps involved in developing a proposal, writing and submitting the application, and provides suggestions for maximizing chances of success. Whilst the focus of this article is based upon the authors' experience in the UK, the general principles are more widely applicable to healthcare professionals working with babies, children and young people everywhere. This article is based on research conducted in rural areas of the Polish Jurassic Highland by first-year ethnology and cultural anthropology students as part of their first field exercises. One of their tasks was to keep fieldnotes, which provided an insight into the young anthropologists’ experiences. Based on an analysis of these notes, I decided to inscribe the process of becoming an anthropologist into the pattern of the rite of passage according to the model proposed by Arnold van Gennep. The purpose of the article is to analyze and interpret the students’ notes and present the point of view of a young researcher – including myself, the author of this article, who participated in this research – on the Polish countryside and the role of the field in the “anthropological initiation.” Making fieldnotes is not only a technique or method of producing anthropological knowledge, but also a source of information about the researcher’s inner experiences during their professional initiation. The article investigates how the specificity of the rural areas of the Polish Jurassic Highland (as the first research field) influenced the process of the symbolic transformation of a student into an anthropologist.

This study investigates the interplay between physical literacy, resilience, and burnout among researchers who experienced strict home quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic in China, with a particular focus on the mediating role of resilience. Employing a two-stage sampling procedure, a total of 363 researchers from diverse disciplines, notably social science and natural science, were enlisted and administered a series of validated scales, including the Perceived Physical Literacy Scale (PPL), the 10-item Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10), and the Chinese version of the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBL), via an anonymous online platform. The findings revealed substantial differences in physical literacy, resilience, and burnout across disciplines. Resilience partially mediated the relationship between physical literacy and burnout. Upon a closer examination of the sub-dimensions, resilience was found to fully mediate between factors of motivation, exhaustion, and disengagement. Moreover, one aspect of physical literacy—interaction with the environment—exhibited weaker correlations with both resilience and burnout compared to other dimensions of physical literacy. Overall, the study confirms the significant correlation between physical literacy and psychological parameters, establishing that elevated levels of both physical literacy and resilience serve as key factors in mitigating burnout during the pandemic. The research project aims to develop a webbased dashboard that addresses the challenges faced by academic staff researchers. The problem is the fragmentation of publicly available information regarding funding and grants, making it challenging to obtain comprehensive summaries. Additionally, predicting appropriate conferences or journals based on the title or abstract of a research paper is time-consuming. Furthermore, the absence of a standardized rating mechanism hinders the fair evaluation of researchers. To overcome these obstacles, we propose a solution that utilizes advanced algorithms to summarize funding and grant data, predict suitable venues for publication, and establish an objective rating system for researchers. The proposed method will automatically generate personalized research profiles by leveraging machine learning techniques. The anticipated results of this research endeavor will significantly impact the academic community, streamlining the process of showcasing researchers' work, facilitating collaboration opportunities, and fostering a more efficient and productive research ecosystem. Purpose: This study aims to explore how power dynamics affect research with children, focusing on how the projected and perceived role of the researcher and the use of participative techniques, can mediate power relationships between the researcher and child, and impact children's agency. Design/methodology/approach: The research formed part of a wider study on children's digital device use, with children aged 4 to 11 in a UK school. Eight pairs of children participated in buddy interviews, completing several creative and arts-based activities using a choice of equipment and materials, including PlayDoh, LEGO and most innovatively, Minecraft. Findings: The study found the researcher's projected role, and children's interpretation of this, impacted the power relations in the interviews. A consistent projection was challenging however, and it was necessary for the researcher to adapt their role according to children's needs and behaviour. Offering children a choice of activities was an effective power sharing strategy, and children's absorption in these tasks provided a wealth of data from observations and children's on-task "chatter". Originality/value: Using Minecraft as a participative method enabled the children to use their superior technical abilities to take power in the interview, and show their own personal geographies virtually in 3D, and offers potential for other qualitative researchers in conducting research with the agentic child. This article proposes a "functional discursive analysis of humor" based on various sources of research, as well as taking into account specific examples. The purpose of the article is to analyze humor from a functional discursive point of view, refusing to pay special attention to positive humor and considering it from a different angle. One of the areas that attracts the attention of researchers of discursive analytics is the differentiation of information about responses that cause humor. Moving away from earlier studies focused on laughter as a prototype response to humor, several recent studies have identified and discussed other ways to respond in terms of supporting or rejecting humor. The study was conducted using the method of comparative study of the functional discursive analysis of humor from various sources. In addition to these methodological questions, another difficult question that discourse analysts often face when studying humor is how to accurately identify humor in the data. The article examines the functional discourse from an analytical point of view and provides research on various aspects of psychoanalytic theories. The scientific significance of the article lies in the fact that some of the strategies that attract attention through the functional discursive analysis of humor, such as speaking with a lot of humor, repeating the words of the speaker, a more motivated attitude to interaction, agreement with the main proposals, disagreement, offering alternative interpretations, as well as the use of facial gestures, smiling, nodding, raising eyebrow issues such as speech were considered. Practical significance of the article is that the place of humor in the context of the workplace in the family, in the circle of friends to relieve tension and stress, the importance of dynamics and complexity of interactive humor is determined. Some ways of using humor have been identified and described. Methodological, procedural (technological) and instrumental levels of the functional discursive analysis of humor, naturalistic methods for understanding the dialogical character, its purpose, opinions about it, as well as the result are presented. Qualitative researchers experience a myriad of emotions during fieldwork. Yet, a reluctance to display and openly discuss emotions in relation to research practice means little insight on how these can inform the research process exists. In this paper, we explore the researcher's emotions in an organizational ethnography of an emergency department during the COVID-19 pandemic. We identify three emotional triggers (uncertain field access, disrupted research practices, and researcher exposure) and discuss the researcher's embodied experiences and reflexive responses. We present four ways in which the researcher's emotions can be used as a resource for embodied reflexivity: (i) deepening field engagement through a focus on collective experiences, (ii) using the researcher's agency to refocus data collection and enhance creativity, (iii) merging inward and outward focus to reframe the research project, and (iv) visualizing emotions throughout the research process to avoid mind-body dualisms. This paper joins recent discussions on qualitative methods and reflexivity and answers calls for making the researcher's field presence visible in qualitative research. Case-based education (CBE) is a teaching method in which learners work on real-life cases to learn and apply concepts and skills they have been taught. Case report-driven medical education using the CBE framework can effectively facilitate student and resident learning, and entice them to become involved in actual clinical practice. Specific case report-driven medical education methods and learning outcomes are not clarified. This study aimed to clarify the specific learning processes and outcomes of case report-driven medical education in rural community-based medical education. Using a qualitative design based on a thematic analysis approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The study participants were medical students and residents in training at a rural Japanese community hospital. Fifty-one case reports were completed and published in Cureus from April 2021 to March 2023. Participants learned about various difficulties related to volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) in the medical care of various older patients, which increased their interest in family medicine. They appreciated the importance of case reports in academic careers and how their responsibilities as researchers increase with collaboration. It is important to provide researchers with the support they need to improve the Person–Organization (PO) fit in order to manage the negative impact of COVID-19 on work performance. Underpinned by the PO fit theory, drawing upon the survey data of 2321 researchers from ten countries initiated by Nature in 2021, this paper discusses how the independent variables of person–organization fit and organizational resources impact work performance, a dependent variable, moderated by career stages via a factor and path analysis. The results show that organizational resources and PO fit have significantly assisted researchers in managing the negative impacts of COVID-19 on work performance. In terms of national heterogeneity, for developing countries, it is more important to provide more organizational support to researchers than PO fit. However, for developed countries, personal demands would be focused on improving PO fit, which would be helpful for researchers' work performance more effectively than providing organizational support blindly. Therefore, in order to improve the efficiency of organizational support, those that fit less but had more helpful aspects should be increased appropriately, while those that fit more but were less helpful should be reduced accordingly. It implies that it would be significant to emphasize differentiated and career-stage-sensitive support to researchers in different countries to improve researchers' wellbeing and organizational performance. ObjectiveTo evaluate the impact of research design on the perceived medical treatment effectiveness among researchers, healthcare workers (HCWs) and consumers in Croatia.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2021 to February 2022 using an online survey. The participants were researchers, HCWs and consumers from Croatia. The survey had six scenarios about the same medical treatment presented within different study designs and in random order. Participants were asked to assess on a scale from 1 to 10 if the descriptions presented a sufficient level of evidence to conclude that the treatment was effective.ResultsFor researchers (n = 97), as the number of participants and degree of variable control in the study design increased, the perceived level of sufficient evidence also increased significantly. Among consumers (n = 286) and HCWs (n = 201), no significant differences in scores were observed between the cross-sectional study, cohort study, RCT, and systematic review.ConclusionThere is a need to implement educational courses on basic research methodology in lower levels of education and as part of Continuing Medical Education for all stakeholders in the healthcare system. The purpose of the article was to restore the memory of the famous Irkutsk architect, teacher and scientist. The year 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the talented architect. Some facts of his biography and creative path became especially important milestones in the fate of this man. The study is based on archival materials of the Irkutsk Regional Organisation of the Union of Architects of Russia. The authenticity of the materials is confirmed by the fact that the documents in the archive appeared thanks to the relatives of N. I. Boikov. The work with archival documents prompted the author to study in more depth the materials on little-known projects of N. I. Boikov, to conduct their field research, interviews with the plant staff and local residents. Many biographical facts and highlights of N. I. Boikov’s creative life are published for the first time.

Abstract Context Implicating patients in research is gaining popularity around the world and is now the reference of many funding agencies. Understanding these partnerships is necessary to grasp this new reality. The experiences of researchers who have involved patient-partners (PPs) in health research are important for a better understanding of these practices. Objective This study aimed to identify and analyze the existing qualitative scientific literature on the experiences of academic researchers involved in health research with patient engagement (PE). Design A scoping review of the available literature with an inductive thematic synthesis, guided by the methodological framework of Arksey and O’Malley. Data collection A search strategy was developed to include keywords relating to researchers, patient-partners, experiences, and the qualitative methodologies of the targeted studies. Five databases were searched using the EBSCO-host engine. The search results were screened by four reviewers to only include articles written in English on the topic of the experience of academic researchers having worked with PPs in health research based on qualitative studies or mixed-methods studies with a distinct qualitative section. Analysis Articles included were charted for general information. All “results” sections were coded line by line. These codes were organized inductively to form descriptive and analytical themes. This led to the synthesis of the ideas found in the selected articles. Results The search strategy yielded 7616 results, of which 2468 duplicates were removed. The remaining 5148 articles were screened, resulting in the exclusion of 5114 off-topic studies. The remaining 29 full-text articles were evaluated for inclusion from which 5 additional studies were identified. The final selection consisted of 11 articles that met all the criteria. These articles were published between 2009 and 2019. Five general themes inductively emerged from the analysis: the understanding of PE, motivations, contexts, attitudes, and practical aspects of PE that are central to researchers. Conclusion This scoping review provides a better understanding of the experiences of researchers who have implemented patient partnerships in health research projects. Our findings reveal many positive elements central to health researchers’ discourses about PE, but they provide insights into the challenges and postures of resistance. This knowledge can support the development of empirically sound improvements in PE practices.

This study has endeavored to explain the requirements and consequences of fostering research spirit in children. To this end, Iranian databases including Noormags, Irandoc, Civilica, Elmnet, SID, and Ensani were used to get 62 documents from 2001 to 2020. In the next step, 31 documents were selected and analyzed using PRISMA checklist indicators and based on relevance, effectiveness, and validity criteria. Furthermore, international databases including Eric, Sage, Elsevier, Google Scholar, and Taylor and Francis were used to get 43 documents from 2000 to 2020. Then, 19 documents were selected and analyzed based on relevance, effectiveness, and validity criteria. The data were analyzed via Altheide's process of document analysis. Analysis of the studies on the requirements of fostering research spirit in children resulted in identification of five main categories, including national and international needs, needs based on the most recent advancements in ICTs, needs related to children’s lives, children’s legal needs, and the educational system needs. In addition, the analysis of studies on the consequences of fostering children's research spirit resulted in identification of five main categories, i.e., development of children’s skills, boosting self-confidence, improving self-esteem, increasing children's participation, and developing knowledge about childhood experiences. Based on the identification of various factors related to the requirements and consequences of fostering research spirit in children, it is necessary that we plan for developing children as researchers. Accordingly, suggestions for developing children as researchers were presented.

Research is achieved for the sake of contribution towards science and getting information systematically, starting from the collection of data, passing through interpretation and final evaluation of these data and all that, in an organized manner which is called scientific research. Biotechnology includes the application both of older biological knowledge, which is based on structures, functioning, and development of animals and plants in their ecological setting, and of newer approaches, which are based on an understanding of genetics and on the cellular and subcellular processes. The development of biotechnology has given society an awesome new power and an equally awesome responsibility to use it wisely. Biotechnology is being applied in different areas of science such as agriculture, health, the environment, and many other aspects of science and industry. Most of these applications and developments are centered in the developed countries and the research is established by these notions. Currently, it has been obvious that biotechnology is crucial for notion’s economic growth and sustainable development. Yemen, as one of the most developing countries, is suffering to emerge molecular biotechnology research in universities and research units. This is because of many aspects that affect the soceity, goverment, and ultimatly the entire country, including society, human resources, facilities, infrastructure and environment resources, and stability. To conclude, the researchers in Yemen are surrounding by many challenges, which are starting in society and ending up in the laboratory. The research has very low priority on a long list of priorities such as food, stability, security, and healthcare. All the challenges can be solved, but it will need a more educated society and serious government policy toward research as a tool to build a strong society.

A “doctoral student” is the term for a student undertaking the highest level of university degree (a doctorate). “Supervisor” is the term for the academic, or academics, who act as their guide. Unlike taught classroom-based degree courses, doctoral degrees in the UK are normally only, or mainly, focused upon a single intensive research study into a specific topic. Such degree courses facilitate the development of students into highly specialist autonomous researchers capable of independent thought. Typically, a blend of support is provided to each doctoral student which consists of an elective development program of research methods learning opportunities alongside dedicated supervisor support from one or more academic members of staff called “supervisors”. It is the expectation that each supervisor will act as a guide and mentor for the doctoral student, thereby enabling them to successfully complete their program of research. This entry relates primarily to the UK model of supervising a doctoral student. Doctoral programs in other countries may differ.

Purpose: Bullying, harassment, and discrimination (BHD) are prevalent in academic, scientific, and clinical departments, particularly orthopedic surgery, and can have lasting effects on victims. As it is unclear how BHD affects musculoskeletal (MSK) researchers, the following study assessed BHD in the MSK research community and whether the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused hardships in other industries, had an impact. Methods: A web-based anonymous survey was developed in English by ORS Spine Section members to assess the impact of COVID-19 on MSK researchers in North America, Europe, and Asia, which included questions to evaluate the personal experience of researchers regarding BHD. Results: 116 MSK researchers completed the survey. Of respondents, 34.5% (n = 40) focused on spine, 30.2% (n = 35) had multiple areas of interest, and 35.3% (n = 41) represented other areas of MSK research. BHD was observed by 26.7% (n = 31) of respondents and personally experienced by 11.2% (n = 13), with mid-career faculty both observing and experiencing the most BHD. Most who experienced BHD (53.8%, n = 7) experienced multiple forms. 32.8% (n = 38) of respondents were not able to speak out about BHD without fear of repercussions, with 13.8% (n = 16) being unsure about this. Of those who observed BHD, 54.8% (n = 17) noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had no impact on their observations. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first study to address the prevalence and determinants of BHD among MSK researchers. MSK researchers experienced and observed BHD, while many were not comfortable reporting and discussing violations to their institution. The COVID-19 pandemic had mixed-effects on BHD. Awareness and proactive policy changes may be warranted to reduce/eliminate the occurrence of BHD in this community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anecdotal and historical accounts of science suggest that in earlier times, researchers pursued science more as a hobby at their own pace with support and encouragement from patrons and communities. This leads to inequality in scientific research, where some fields and researchers may have an easier time obtaining funding and resources, while other fields and researchers may lack this support, making it difficult to conduct meaningful research. Progress of science needs efforts from the researchers with a poly-disciplinary mindset as well as mono-disciplinary strengths.[[5]] The role of science is evident to everyone from the recent example, i.e., protecting eight billion people from the devastating effects of COVID-19 pandemic. Context: Implicating patients in research is gaining popularity around the world and is now the reference of many funding agencies. Understanding these partnerships is necessary to grasp this new reality. The experiences of researchers who have involved patient-partners (PPs) in health research are important for a better understanding of these practices. Objective: This study aimed to identify and analyze the existing qualitative scientific literature on the experiences of academic researchers involved in health research with patient engagement (PE). Design: A scoping review of the available literature with an inductive thematic synthesis, guided by the methodological framework of Arksey and O'Malley. Data collection: A search strategy was developed to include keywords relating to researchers, patient-partners, experiences, and the qualitative methodologies of the targeted studies. Five databases were searched using the EBSCO-host engine. The search results were screened by four reviewers to only include articles written in English on the topic of the experience of academic researchers having worked with PPs in health research based on qualitative studies or mixed-methods studies with a distinct qualitative section. Analysis: Articles included were charted for general information. All "results" sections were coded line by line. These codes were organized inductively to form descriptive and analytical themes. This led to the synthesis of the ideas found in the selected articles. Results: The search strategy yielded 7616 results, of which 2468 duplicates were removed. The remaining 5148 articles were screened, resulting in the exclusion of 5114 off-topic studies. The remaining 29 full-text articles were evaluated for inclusion from which 5 additional studies were identified. The final selection consisted of 11 articles that met all the criteria. These articles were published between 2009 and 2019. Five general themes inductively emerged from the analysis: the understanding of PE, motivations, contexts, attitudes, and practical aspects of PE that are central to researchers. Conclusion: This scoping review provides a better understanding of the experiences of researchers who have implemented patient partnerships in health research projects. Our findings reveal many positive elements central to health researchers' discourses about PE, but they provide insights into the challenges and postures of resistance. This knowledge can support the development of empirically sound improvements in PE practices. Based on an exploratory study, this article discusses the dispositive-mediation couple in its ordinary use (pragmatic register) and in its use in research (scientific register). It is based on the theoretical field of activity analysis and in particular on the work of Rabardel (1995) on the notion of instrument. A twofold survey (Dewey, 1938/2006) leads us to consider that the notional couple dispositive-instrument fulfils a central function : to allow the resolution of situations-problems by playing an interface role, in the professional's activity as well as in the researcher's activity, even if the ends differ : the first seeks a form of efficiency of its action and the second aims at producing intelligibility concerning the object of its research.

Background Scientific research is an important part of discipline construction and a driving force of discipline development. However, there is a lack of systematic analysis of research capacity and quality in the field of general practice and community health in China. Objective To understand the current situation of China's general practice research capabilities, analyze the existing problems and provide a basis for further improving the research capabilities in the field of general practice and community health in China. Methods In December 2021, academic papers published from 2001 to 2020 in Chinese General Practice, Journal of General Practitioners, China General Practice, and Primary Health Care in China were retrieved from CNKI platform. The years of 2001—2020 were divided into four time periods, on average of 5 years, and the regional distribution, institution type distribution, investigator cooperation network, and study type distribution of the institutions of the first author of the included articles were bibliometrically analyzed using Vosviewer 1.6.17. Results Finally, 54 726 papers were included. From 2001 to 2020, research institutions in East China published the largest number of papers (24 015, 43.88%) , followed by North China (11 288, 20.63%) and South China (5 437, 9.93%) . There was an overall upward trend in the number of publications in community health service centers, which increased from 15 in 2001 (1.31% of the total annual volume) to 203 in 2020 (9.38% of the total annual volume) . A total of 8 collaborative networks emerged from the analysis of co-occurrence among investigators, including the following research teams: Department of General Practice of Zhongshan Hospital, the Journal of Chinese General Practice, and the Capital Medical University. Regarding the types of studies, the percentage of studies in the theoretical class decreased from 28.68% (329/1 147) in 2001 to 17.93% (388/2 164) in 2020; the proportion of intervention type studies gradually increased from 10.11% (116/1 147) in 2001 to 17.28% (374/2 164) in 2020, but its proportion in the overall studies was still low; the percentage of observational studies was the highest, with 64.79% (1 402/2 164) in 2020. Conclusion The research in the field of general practice and community health in China has shown a rapid development trend from 2001 to 2020, but there still remain some problems such as unbalanced development of research capabilities, insufficient cooperation and communication of research teams, and insufficient innovation of research methods. It is recommended to further strengthen the construction of domestic scientific research cooperation network and focus on improving the quality of research.

This study investigates the interplay between physical literacy, resilience, and burnout among researchers who experienced strict home quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic in China, with a particular focus on the mediating role of resilience. Employing a two-stage sampling procedure, a total of 363 researchers from diverse disciplines, notably social science and natural science, were enlisted and administered a series of validated scales, including the Perceived Physical Literacy Scale (PPL), the 10-item Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10), and the Chinese version of the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBL), via an anonymous online platform. The findings revealed substantial differences in physical literacy, resilience, and burnout across disciplines. Resilience partially mediated the relationship between physical literacy and burnout. Upon a closer examination of the sub-dimensions, resilience was found to fully mediate between factors of motivation, exhaustion, and disengagement. Moreover, one aspect of physical literacy—interaction with the environment—exhibited weaker correlations with both resilience and burnout compared to other dimensions of physical literacy. Overall, the study confirms the significant correlation between physical literacy and psychological parameters, establishing that elevated levels of both physical literacy and resilience serve as key factors in mitigating burnout during the pandemic.

Qualitative research in the field of public health and medical education has immense scope and potential considering the richness of information that it adds to the existing literature. We completely acknowledge the in-depth information and the variety of viewpoints that qualitative research methodologies add to the existing pool of information, but the process of data collection has many challenges, which need to be appropriately addressed to enhance the overall quality of data. These challenges include investigator‒participant rapport, participant attributes, researcher attributes, and administrative and logistics constraints. To summarize, the conclusion in qualitative research immensely depends on the process of data collection, and thus it is very much important that all specific steps are taken to overcome these challenges and thereby produce meaningful and evidence-based inferences.

Recent definitions of patient engagement in research (PER) emphasize that engagement should be meaningful, active and an equal collaboration across the research continuum. The increased interest in patient engagement is predicated on the recognition by researchers of the unique experiential knowledge provided by individuals with lived experience, ethical obligations to democratize science and that patient involvement can potentially lead to improved outcomes for patients and researchers. Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center is a large academic research hospital in Toronto, Canada which aimed to create clearer pathways for patients to have a more prominent voice in the development, implementation, and dissemination of research. However, to ensure that the policies, practices and resources to support PER would be viewed as meaningful to all stakeholders (including, but not limited to, administrators, clinicians, clinician researchers, scientists, patients, family members and caregivers), a series of structured activities were undertaken to foster collective buy-in and co-create an operational implementation plan for PER. The activities consisted of a consecutive mixed methods approach of three phases of discovery: a survey, focus groups and interviews, and an in-person town hall. We describe our approach to implementation and operationalization of PER at an academic hospital based on five identified priority themes: education and training, partnerships, matching programs, policies and measures.
