Purpose: The comparison research involving two studies aimed to explore the gap between social work evidence production and utilization in Mainland of China. Methods: Study 1 was a scoping review to screen qualified publications in the Web of Science Core Collection. Study 2 conducted correlation analysis and an analysis of variance using the data from the China Social Work Longitudinal Study 2019. Results: In Study 1, 745 publications from 35 main social work journals represented the overall improving volume and quality of evidence in Mainland of China. Study 2 showed a low intention to use evidence among the Chinese Mainland social work practitioners, which could be influenced by working region, years of work, educational level, work position, professional level, awareness of evidence-based practice (EBP), and willingness to learn EBP. Conclusions: An education gap, an intention gap, a regional development gap, and a time lag were identified between social work evidence supply and utilization in Mainland of China. This article is a response to Salvador Muñoz-Viñas' 2022 article in this journal, 'Conservation science, conservation practice and the conservator's knowledge: a naïve exploration'. In his article, Muñoz-Viñas outlines 46 questions related to a conservation treatment that, we are told, cannot be answered by using the scientific method. This forms the basis for a vindication of the value of the knowledge of conservators, as well as a critical exploration of the limits of heritage science. In my response, I also present a list of questions related to a hypothetical scientific experiment. I have chosen questions that cannot be answered by science alone, because they require the expertise of conservators. In that way, I showcase a heritage science that respects the tacit knowledge of conservators, indeed, that depends on it. Essentially, the way we ask questions shapes the way we answer them. I argue that we must ask inclusive questions that help us collaborate across perceived disciplinary boundaries. The limitations of heritage science identified by Muñoz-Viñas are genuine, but we disagree in the attitude we should have in front of them. The available literature emphasizes that by 2040, electric vehicles may constitute up to 50% of the fleet of all passenger vehicles. This process will be one of the elements of the energy transformation and, at the same time, consistent with the idea of sustainable transport. As part of this research, the actual energy consumption and the range of electric vehicles were determined. This research was carried out using a selected group of electric cars from the most popular segments of passenger cars. The calculations were based on three charging scenarios: a home electrical network, a public alternating current (AC) charging station that allows charging with single-phase alternating current or alternating current, and a public direct current (DC) charging station that allows charging with direct current. The obtained results were compared with the results of cars with internal combustion and diesel engines after driving a 100-kilometer section of the route. In a broader scope, this research addresses the entities responsible for the energy transformation and the electromobility development strategy. In a narrower sense, vehicle users are considering the purchase of this type of vehicle for political, economic and technological reasons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines the use of and opinions about academic research by US-based legal interpreters. It analyses the responses of 233 practising interpreters to an online survey. The survey explored: (1) tools and practices employed for problem solving and skill building; (2) access to and use of academic research; (3) factors affecting use of research; (4) goals and expectations regarding academic research; and (5) the potential role of different stakeholders (interpreters, researchers, educators, and professional associations) in conducting and disseminating research. Results reveal interpreters’ limited awareness of the concept of academic research and the current state of the art in legal interpreting. Respondents cite a neglect of professional needs in existing studies and inaccessible formats as major reasons for their lack of engagement. However, they recognize academic research as a valuable tool for enhancing practice and educating legal actors about interpreting. They express interest in furthering their knowledge of interpreting techniques, language and communication issues (particularly legal discourse), the physiological and psychological effects of interpreting, and work-related matters. They suggest closer collaboration between researchers and practitioners in conceptualising and developing empirical studies, and in disseminating findings beyond traditional academic formats.

Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorder known for primary symptoms of motor learning and execution difficulties. Recent research has consistently suggested DCD symptoms span broadly beyond motor difficulties, yet a majority of research and practice approaches the investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of DCD with a reductionist framework. Therefore, this paper suggests the paradigm of complexity theory as a means for better conceptualization, assessment, and treatment of DCD. First, the perspective of complexity theory and its relevance to DCD is described. Then, examples from recent research which attempt to acknowledge and capture the complex nature of DCD are highlighted. Finally, suggestions for considering and measuring complexity of DCD in future research and practice are provided. Overall, the perspective of complexity can propel the research forward and improve the understanding of DCD relevant to assessment and treatment. The complexity paradigm is highly relevant to describing the evolving and multidimensional picture of DCD, understanding heterogeneous symptom profiles, making connections to interconnected secondary symptoms, and beyond. One of the criticisms leveled against research and knowledge, especially "knowledge for knowledge's sake" is that it seldom goes so far as to make a significant difference in practice. Thousands of doctoral graduates worldwide produce new knowledge every year, only to run out of steam at the end of their doctoral journey. For many, earning their doctorates is sufficient to justify the painstaking academic journey, so they give up the ghost and strive no more to make a difference. As 12th century French abbot St Bernard of Clairvaux writes, "Some seek knowledge for the sake of knowledge--and that is curiosity. Some seek knowledge that they may be known to have knowledge--and that is vanity. Some seek knowledge that they may give to others their knowledge--and that is charity." But how does one apply the knowledge to solve real-world problems? How does what you have learned and discovered, find its way into praxis? How does it find favor with organizational and community leaders who are not academically inclined and could not care less for academic theories and jargon? This paper is inspired by the work of a team of French researchers who have conceptualized and developed an innovative approach entitled "Inductive Process to Analyze the Structure of Lived Experience" (IPSE), which is being successfully integrated into evidence-based medicine (EBM). Taking a cue from EBM, an attempt is made to unpack and elucidate the IPSE framework for doctoral researchers that are unfamiliar with it and offer a compelling case for its application in the practice of social science research, outside the field of medicine. This thematic issue of Urban Planning brings together a collection of seven articles that explore and critically engage with contemporary issues with local economic development and connect with the broader fields of urban development and planning. The articles presented here provide a complementary mix of broader conceptualizations and research and narrower case-studies which draw from a range of geographies. Contributions include the development and application of a vulnerability and risk measures for economic prosperity; examinations of how urban planning and zoning are used as tools to address industrial decline and spur new forms of economic production; complementing investigations into the role of innovation within local economic development examining the role of public and private institutions as well as broad and targeted policy interventions; and the relationship between ‘big-tech,’ economic development and urban planning and governance.

The International Conference on Social Work and Fieldwork Education in Hong Kong was organized to discuss the need for change and innovation in social work education with a particular focus on field education. There is a need for social work field educators to identify innovative, promising, and wise practices in field education. In many contexts, field education is challenged to procure sufficient placements each year. This growing demand for placements has created numerous challenges in field education programs. In response to the challenges facing social work field education, and the need to develop sustainable models of field education, the Transforming the Field Education Landscape (TFEL) project was formed. The TFEL project is a partnership designed to integrate research and practice through the development of partnered research training initiatives aimed at enhancing student research practice knowledge and applied skill development. In Canada, many field education challenges were amplified due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which required social work programs to adapt in order to navigate unprecedented circumstances. This article discusses the challenges facing field education programs and provides an overview of the TFEL project, with a focus on how the partnership is addressing these concerns. It defines what is meant by innovative, promising, and wise practices in field education, and how these innovations can assist in preparing the next generation of social workers to become highly qualified personnel. In the last decades, the concept of urban metabolism has been a fundamental topic of the debate on cities. From the overall definition of the concept to the specific measurement of its different components, urban metabolism has been discussed in an increasing number of papers and books, particularly after the 2000s. While it is widely assumed that planning would benefit from the incorporation of the concept, there are few scientific outputs with potential for application into day-to-day practice or, indeed, reviews on that practice as part of an eventual process of integration. The paper tries to address this gap. After discussing the concept, its main components and its applicability into practice, the paper offers a review of day-to-day planning in one particular country – Portugal. Based on this insight on research and practice, it outlines a number of principles for evaluating urban metabolism. It is argued that urban metabolism should be evaluated within planning practice, different metabolic components should be assessed at different scales, the measurement of these components should be selective and balance complexity and pragmatism, and that land should be reinforced within the metabolic framework and be acknowledged as a key element in the linkage between research and practice. The existing gap between research and practice in language testing has posed a huge challenge to language teachers. In particular, this study intended to examine language testing research and classroom testing activities for their degree of interaction from Iranian EFL teachers’ points of view. The analysis drew on the questionnaire developed by Nassaji (2012), which consists of quantitative and qualitative sections. The data were collected from 200 language institute teachers in Bushehr, Iran. The findings indicated that most of the teachers confirmed their familiarity with language testing research, while only a few believed that they were able to conduct or publish testing research. Although the participants acknowledged that the information gained from reading language testing could be valuable for their testing performances, they found their experience more relevant than knowledge gained from language testing research. This study also illustrated that there is a growing consensus among teachers in that there should be collaboration between researchers and teachers in testing practices.

Developing countries may pay attention to bibliometric indicators in accordance with their scientific development plans. Bibliometrics research topics and bibliometric indicators have grown dramatically in Iran since 2000 as a part of the post-war reconstruction programs. This paper aims to highlight how scientometrics may attract attention in developing countries such as Iran in response to national movements in education and science. An in-depth review on available guidelines for promotion of innovation, science, and technology in Iran was done followed by a review on previous research in this topic. Further data were gathered from Scopus and other sources. The findings show a considerable growth in research output of Iran in recent years and expansion of bibliometrics studies and jobs accordingly. Combined with research output measures, more attention was found in academia about cross-section development of science and technology in Iran. The demand in society has led to the foundation of scientometrics programs in Iranian universities as well as scientometrics departments in central libraries and research deputies in major academic institutions. The changing image of science and research in Iran has a relation with the growth of scientometrics academic and professional departments. The lessons taught from this mutual collaboration can be used in other developing nations.

Landscape performance evaluation plays an important role in Landscape Architecture's transformation to an evidence-based science. Most of existing relevant studies focus on the selection of evaluation indicators and methods, or description of the sustainability characteristics of completed projects, while in-depth theoretical discussion on its development processes and essential connotation is still in shortage. By tracing back and comparing the theoretical characteristics and development relationships of the three major systems -- POE, SITES, and LPS, this paper clarifies the evolution of landscape performance evaluation towards serving evidence-based design, and further expounds its connotation of discovering the causality of design strategies and benefit results. Finally, two research interests, "feedback analysis of design efficiency" and "producing practical and operable knowledge" are proposed with significance as a key to support high-performance landscape design practices with reliable evidences. The Problem: This issue of Advances in Developing Human Resources addresses the establishment of a research agenda for theories and constructs selected from established theories from other fields of study, which are related to elements of the study of human resource development (HRD). Several of the theories or constructs were selected for inclusion in this issue based on prior publications in Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD)–sponsored journals in which authors suggested the use of the theory to advance the theory, research, and practice in HRD. Other theories and constructs were inspired to be included by calls for interdisciplinary and multi-paradigmatic empirical research from journals within the economics, management, organizational psychology, and sociology fields of study. The Solution: Integrated, systematic, or theoretical literature reviews were conducted for each of the selected theories or constructs. Models, research propositions, and research agendas were developed to provide recommendations for the development of research designs and protocols. The goal of the implementation of the research agendas is to advance the theoretical foundations of HRD. The Stakeholders: This issue is expected to benefit HRD researchers and HRD practitioners by providing suggestions for empirical research studies to be conducted to explore HRD-related concepts using the theories selected and to establish interdisciplinary and multi-paradigmatic research opportunities. It may be challenging for school systems and teachers to make sense of policy demands or identify effective practices that lead to student success. The purpose of this article is to provide information on a partnership with a school district to support the writing performance of students in grades 3 to 5. The paper discusses the collaboration among participants and the successes and challenges that led to the application of evidence-based practices on writing instruction. The project included work on a writing professional development model that had a year's duration, addressed multiple genres, connected reading and writing, and involved distance coaching. The voices of the principal, the district's curriculum coordinator, the literacy coordinator, and the researcher are shared to illustrate their shared commitment to change. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This forum explores contradictions that arose within the partnership between Teach for America (TFA) and a university teacher education program. TFA is an alternate route teacher preparation program that places individuals into K-12 classrooms in low-income school districts after participating in an intense summer training program and provides them with ongoing support. This forum is a conversation about the challenges we faced as new science teachers in the TFA program and in the Peace Corps program. We both entered the teaching field with science degrees and very little formal education in science education. In these programs we worked in a community very different from the one we had experienced as students. These experiences allow us to address many of the issues that were discussed in the original paper, namely teaching in an unfamiliar community amid challenges that many teachers face in the first few years of teaching. We consider how these challenges may be amplified for teachers who come to teaching through an alternate route and may not have as much pedagogical training as a more traditional teacher education program provides. The forum expands on the ideas presented in the original paper to consider the importance of perspectives on socially just science education. There is often a disconnect between what is taught in teacher education programs and what teachers actually experience in urban classrooms and this can be amplified when the training received through alternate route provides a different framework as well. This forum urges universities and alternate route programs to continue to find ways to authentically partner using practical strategies that bring together the philosophies and goals of all stakeholders in order to better prepare teachers to partner with their students to achieve their science learning goals. Concerns about the gap between LIS theory and practice have been voiced by many commentators over the years. A moderate gap was identified between the research priorities of practitioners in the Relevance 2020 project's focus groups, convened across Australia in late 2016, and the LIS research actually being conducted. A total of 172 Relevance 2020 participants, from a wide range of sectors, identified 96 priority topics, in areas such as the role of libraries and librarians, promotion, information service operations and information literacy. The participants also suggested ways in which LIS research could be better supported and made more relevant to practice. All stakeholders need to play their complementary parts: employers need to support practitioners' involvement in research, as well as their engagement with it; professional networks can help lobby for funds and resources, and facilitate the development of research capacity; academics can identify areas in which their own agendas coincide with those of practitioners, and explain the relevance of their research findings. Strong partnerships between individual practitioners and researchers can be formed by first identifying common ground and aims, through the sort of constructive dialogue generated at the Relevance 2020 events. Collaboration among academia and industry is a long aspiring vision of every country to promote innovation and commercialization. A deeper analysis of collaborative efforts among this triad may reveal significant aspects to look for well informed decision making. The purpose of this research is to conduct the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis of collaboration in engineering education, research and practices in Pakistan. The study attempts to identify strengths and weaknesses of the current collaborative strategies; opportunities for establishing strong and rewarding relationships, and threats that may hinder development of this association. It further provides practical schema to establish productive association between the two partners through creative leadership, effective strategic partnership, and systematic modus operandi to way forward with implications for academics, researchers, and industry. The research is qualitative in nature, based on interpretivist approach. The data is collected by using focus group and semi-structured interviews of experts in industry and academia; primary data obtained by these tools is analyzed by using thematic analysis through open and axial coding. The study identifies the barriers in collaborative efforts, and delineates the roles of industry and academia to overcome these barriers along with SWOT matrix in the context of Pakistan

This paper presents a systematic review of trauma-treatment interventions, which have different theoretical perspectives on trauma etiology and its application. The empirical findings of these trauma treatment therapies are presented. The extant literature identifies five therapies as the most-effective treatment modalities for PTSD: cognitive therapy (CT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), prolonged exposure (PE) therapy, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. They are all validated with some nuances on treatment approach and effectiveness. However, to use these five interventions, practitioners need to consider and apply the research findings that indicate which intervention is best for which population. The written forms of the academic community, particularly the research article, are a frequent focus of genre research. Yet the criteria used to select “research articles” from among the different text types published in scholarly journals are not always made apparent. We argue that an elastic yet operational set of criteria for identifying the “research article” is both necessary and possible, and we offer a summary of our own process for developing such criteria in a project focused on the theory-practice tension in academic research in education. While genre theory's interest in variability may make researchers wary of setting boundaries, defining a prestige knowledge-making genre like the “research article” is not just methodologically but also politically significant. The research and practice gap has long been lamented, but less is known about this divide with regard to clinical training. We surveyed psychotherapy researchers who also engage in clinical supervision, assuming they would be most likely to model research–practice integration in a training context, about how they integrate psychotherapy research and clinical supervision. We found that psychotherapy researcher–clinical supervisors valued psychotherapy research and found it useful for training purposes. Similar to other research, however, respondents indicated that they considered other sources of information, including their own clinical work, more helpful for directing their clinical supervision. Psychotherapy researcher–clinical supervisors also valued psychotherapy process and common factors research more than they did evidence-based and empirically supported treatments. Although the research–practice gap in clinical supervision appears smaller than in a practice context, there was still evidence of a gap. Reasons and implications for these findings are considered. This paper focuses on young children’s scientific preconceptions and discusses teachers’ identification of these preconceptions when teaching science in the early years, on which research is still limited. This paper is based on the theoretical framework of constructivism and it defines preconceptions as children’s erroneous concepts prior to formal education. A two phase case study approach was employed, facilitating in-depth investigation though the use of questionnaires, interviews and observations. The results indicate that the teachers did not dedicate time to identify children’s preconceptions when planning and teaching science, even when acknowledging preconceptions’ possible existence. This indicates a lack of appreciation of the importance of children’s preconceptions of the consequences when ignoring them. The results also indicate the need for further training and professional development in relation to the teaching of early-years science, especially since only a very small percentage of early years teachers tend to study science during their years compulsory education. Kindergarteners need access to blocks as thinking tools to develop, model, test, and articulate their mathematical ideas. In the current educational landscape, resources such as blocks are being pushed to the side and being replaced by procedural worksheets and academic 'seat time' in order to address standards. Mathematics research provides a solid basis for advocating for hands on resources to explore geometry and number concepts. Through the use of blocks in standards based mathematical tasks, students have the opportunity to develop important mathematical concepts and reasoning strategies. Kindergarten teachers' instructional actions can be grounded in history, research, personal wisdom, and professional knowledge regarding what is appropriate and meaningful for their students in learning mathematics with thinking tools such as blocks.
