Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is one of the most significant causes of diarrhea in hospitalized patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and epidemiology of CDI after the COVID-19 pandemic in hospitalized patients in a rehabilitation center in Thessaloniki, Greece. Α retrospective observational cohort study was performed in inpatients diagnosed with diarrhea of all ages (January 2023 - December 2023) who were initially screened for CDI. From the total cohort of patients with proven CDI, some patients were randomly selected based on their monthly isolation incidence throughout the study period, to investigate their epidemiological data and clinical characteristics. Laboratory diagnosis of CDI was performed by enzyme immunoassay, followed by specific anaerobic culture and molecular testing for detection of toxigenic C. difficile. The isolated C. difficile strains were further characterized by PCR ribotyping. The annual incidence of CDI during the study period was 27.1% (130/480). The linear trend of CDI incidence decreased from 32.5% to 18.2% (P = 0.024). The all-cause mortality rate was 5.0% (3/60). A positive correlation was observed between the length of hospital stay and the number of recurrences (r = 0.546, P < 0.001), while 28 patients (46.7%) experienced recurrence of the infection. Seven different PCR ribotypes were identified in this study. C. difficile tcdA +, tcdB +, cdtA +, cdtB + PCR ribotype 181 (RT181) was the predominant (76.6%, 46/60), followed by toxin A-negative PCR RT017 (11.6%, 7/60). The annual incidence of CDI decreased after the COVID-19 pandemic. Our study demonstrates predominance of C. difficile RT181 with tcdA +, tcdB +, cdtA +, cdtB + toxin gene profile after COVID-19 pandemic in Northern Greece. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Protein-energy malnutrition is a significant health issue for children under five in India. Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is marked by a weight-for-height/length below -3 Z-scores, a mid-upper arm circumference under 11.5 cm, or the presence of nutritional bipedal oedema. SAM can directly lead to child mortality or indirectly elevate fatality rates by worsening outcomes of common childhood illnesses. Aim: This study assesses the nutritional status of children with SAM admitted to a Nutritional Rehabilitation Center (NRC). Material and Methods: A descriptive, observational, hospital- and community-based longitudinal study was conducted from July 2022 to June 2023 at the NRC in the Department of Paediatrics at Baba Raghav Das Medical College, Gorakhpur, UP. SAM children admitted to the NRC, along with their caregivers, were included. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS. Results: Among SAM patients, most were aged 1-2 years (35.6%), male (61%), from rural areas (81%), Hindu (93%), and belonged to the OBC caste (54%). The majority were underweighted at admission (86.4%), but this reduced by discharge (28.8%). Skin changes were common at admission (22%), and bleeding gums were rare at discharge (1.7%). On follow-up, 33.9% were still underweight, with minimal cases of oedema and bleeding gums. Conclusion: SAM children in this study were predominantly male, aged 1-2 years, with illiterate caregivers. The NRC provided effective care, reducing severe wasting and oedema rates from admission to discharge. Emotional intelligence (EI) is conceptualized as the ability to recognize and regulate emotions, facilitating interpersonal relationships; its absence can lead to disorganized behaviors such as isolation, low productivity and even addictive behaviors. On the other hand, perceived stress (PD) is the degree of difficulty that a person gives to the activities of daily life. This study had a quantitative approach, correlational in scope and crosssectional, the general objective was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and perceived stress in patients undergoing rehabilitation at a CETAD in the city of Ambato. The group consisted of 32 adult men who were administered the Emotional Intelligence Scale (TMMS-24) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14). The results showed a low positive correlation between the emotional repair dimension of EI and the reduction of perceived stress. With respect to the length of stay in the program, it was observed that those with more time in rehabilitation presented lower levels of stress (m=22.8) compared to those with less time (m=26.6); which justifies the temporality in the recovery plans of patients with substance abuse. It was concluded that, although most participants have adequate emotional skills, the emotional repair dimension should be focused on, improving adaptation and well-being in the rehabilitation process. This pressing issue of drug abuse is concerning due to the underlying conditions fueling it, including shifting cultural values, increasing economic stress, and weakened social support networks. Aims and Objectives: This study aimed to identify the trends in drug abuse and its influencing factors among patients undergoing treatment for addiction in rehabilitation centers in Telangana. Rehabilitation centers are in charge of caring for their residents and treating their addiction problems. To make that possible, in-house carers work collaboratively with each other. They have different roles to perform to help their residents with their program and achieve their recovery goals. Hence, this study aimed to know the experiences of an in-house carer working in a rehabilitation center. This study utilized the Three Component Model of Commitment Theory designed by John Meyer and Natalie Allen. The theory guided the researchers to analyze the carer's feelings toward his job and workplace, covering their experiences working in the rehabilitation center. Moreover, this study used purposive sampling to identify three (3) carers who were interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide. Thus, the study revealed four (4) emergent themes, and these were factors considered in working at a rehabilitation facility (1), duties and responsibilities (2), daily interactions (3), and work challenges (4). Background: Most children with neurocritical illness are at risk of physical, neurocognitive, and psychosocial sequelae and need centralized early rehabilitation care. Objective: To identify the effectiveness and safety of centralized early rehabilitation care for children with severe acquired brain injury. Methods: This is a mixed methods study-an implementation study and single-center retrospective cohort study with historical control. All children with severe acquired brain injury hospitalized in a specialized rehabilitation center in a comprehensive tertiary pediatric hospital between September 2016 and August 2020 were included. Patients treated in the centralized early rehabilitation unit were compared to historical controls dispersed in the normal inpatient rehabilitation ward. The effectiveness outcomes were measured by the Pediatric Cerebral Performance Category (PCPC) scale and the incidence of newly onset comorbidities. The safety outcomes were indicated by the mortality rate and the incidence of unexpected referrals. Results: One hundred seventy-five patients were included. The delta PCPC scores of the first 4 weeks of inpatient rehabilitation in the intervention group were significantly lower than the control group (Z = -2.395, p = 0.017). The PCPC scores at 1 year in the intervention group were significantly reduced as compared to the control group (Z = -3.337, p = 0.001). The incidence of newly onset pneumonia/bronchitis was also decreased in the intervention group (χ2 = 4.517, p = 0.034). No death of patients was recorded, and there was no significant difference in unexpected referral rate between the two groups (χ2 = 0.374, p = 0.541). Conclusions: The centralized pediatrics early rehabilitation unit is effective and safe for children with severe acquired brain injury. No reference intervals for serum biochemistry and haematology of sea turtles in Thailand exists to assist veterinarians who are responsible for sea turtle health management and treatment. This study determined serum biochemistry and basic haematology of healthy juvenile green sea turtles (n = 92) in captivity in Thailand following the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ASVCP), Quality Assurance and Laboratory Standards Committee (QALS) guidelines for the determination of reference intervals in veterinary species. Biochemistry tests, including blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, uric acid, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase were analysed using an IDEXX VetTest Chemistry Analyzer. Haematology parameters were measured manually using a microhaematocrit for packed cell volume (PCV), Neubauer counting chamber for red blood cell count and cyanmethemoglobin method for haemoglobin concentration. mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration were calculated using the PCV, red blood cell count and haemoglobin. Turtles in this study were found to have higher mean values for PCV (28.70%), haemoglobin (92.13 g/L), mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (327.03 g/L), uric acid (247.15 μmol/L), alanine aminotransferase (16.53 IU/L), aspartate aminotransferase (209.44 IU/L), and alkaline phosphatase (245.08 IU/L) compared to sea turtles in Brazil. The reference intervals established using high numbers of healthy turtles in this study will assist veterinarians with diagnostic and treatment decisions when evaluating laboratory results for juvenile green sea turtles. There is a paucity of literature on the effect of COVID-19 on hospital processes. We hypothesized that COVID-19 was associated with decreased cancer physiatry referrals in 2020. This is a retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients from April to July 2019 and 2020 admitted at an academic quaternary cancer center. The main outcomes were number of hospital admissions, rate, and characteristics of inpatient rehabilitation admissions and change in percentage of physiatry referrals as the primary endpoint. Results showed that in 2019, there were 387 referrals from 10,274 inpatient admissions (3.8%; 95% confidence interval, 2.4–4.2), compared with 337 referrals from 7051 admissions in 2020 (4.8%; 95% confidence interval, 4.3–5.3, P = 0.001). Hematology services referred more patients than neurosurgery in 2020 (20.4% vs. 31.4%; 48.2% vs. 26.5%, P = 0.01). Discharge disposition reflected an increased frequency of return to acute care service in 2020 (10.2% vs. 21.8%, P = 0.03). In conclusion, there was an increase in the rate of physiatry referrals despite a decrease in hospital admissions. The intention of the authors of this paper is to prove the efficient use of funds acquired from a local bond by investing in a self-sustaining project that generates returns - a rehabilitation center that will exploit the Kezovica thermal spring in the Municipality of Stip. The economic-financial efficiency of the investment financed through the issue of local bonds is shown through investment criteria that prove the profitability and liquidity of such an investment. In this way, the justification for the issue of local bonds as an alternative way of financing and supporting local economic development is achieved. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the return on investment potential, that is, the efficiency and profitability of a project that significantly contributes towards the increase of value of local output as a component of national economic growth, and even more, taking into account the increased current demands for socially responsible behavior, how it demonstrates value for a wide range of stakeholders in the long run. The results of the research, projected in the form of conventional investment criteria, combined with a short financial ratio analysis, confirm that the efficient use of municipal bonds as an alternative way of financing local economic development can be achieved by investing in a long-term sustainable and profitable project such as is the analyzed example of the rehabilitation center. Family-centered early intervention has been considered by researchers as the current paradigm for childcare. This article aims to present and discuss perceptions of family members about early intervention practices and active family participation, carried out by the team of a Specialized Rehabilitation Center (CER) in the care of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Nine family members of children with ASD, from zero to four years and 11 months, included in the service, participated in the research. Interviews were conducted with the participants to investigate the families' knowledge and their expectations about participating in the interventions, and after data collection, thematic content analysis was performed. The practice of the team at this service is not exclusively related to a single model of support for families, with family participation being, for the most part, aligned with the support model focused on the family. It is hoped that this study can contribute and encourage discussions about early intervention, family support models, and especially children with ASD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Patients with cardiorespiratory problems often suffer from systemic inflammation. Stress due to the disease and continuous inflammation can undermine the success of the rehabilitation program. This review has been undertaken primarily to understand the effectiveness of exercise training on the immune system in individuals undergoing cardiorespiratory rehabilitation and its implications for further management during the COVID-19 pandemic. Assessors analyzed related studies identified in the MEDLINE, PROQUEST, PUBMED, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, EMBASE, Google Scholar, Physiotherapy Evidence, and Science Direct databases. The studies were divided into groups focused on the effect of exercise on blood leukocytes, the anti-inflammatory effect, and the role of nutrition and exercise in resolving inflammation. Twenty-eight studies were included in this review. The number of studies included in each section was as follows: the effects of exercise training on leukocytes in cardiorespiratory conditions (n = 8), anti-inflammatory effect (n = 6), and the role of nutrition and exercise in resolving inflammation (n = 14). The bias risk assessment showed poor internal validity; most included studies were assigned no and unclear descriptors. Substantive evidence is presented that emphasizes the role of moderate-intensity exercise in boosting the immune system in patients with cardiorespiratory diseases. Exercise has anti-inflammatory effects that are vital for overall well-being and resolving longstanding inflammation. Individuals with an active lifestyle had a better pathogen immune response than more sedentary individuals. Research points out the benefits of the Family-Centered Early Intervention practice, which proposes that it is essential to offer support to the needs of family members. This paper aims to analyze the helpgiving practices offered to family members in three public centers of early intervention, located in Baixada Santista-SP, Brazil. The study was conducted with nine relatives of children aged zero to three years, with delayed neuropsychomotor development and other diagnoses, and with 15 professionals. Semi-structured interviews were conducted through two scripts, one for family members and one for professionals. The data were analyzed from the perspective of content analysis, in the thematic analysis modality. As a result, it was possible to identify more relational than participatory helpgiving practices; however, both were little identified in the participants' statements. In addition, the support offered by the service is more focused on the needs of children, and only in some cases it is directed to the needs of family members. Introduction: Physical techniques used for the prevention of vasovagal syncope have limited evidence for efficacy. We aimed to evaluate multimodal supervised physical training as a treatment approach. Methods: In this 1:1 randomized trial, patients with ≥2 episodes of clinically diagnosed vasovagal syncope were included. On top of standard care, the intervention arm performed supervised tilt training and aerobic exercise in six sessions at a cardiac rehabilitation center (three sessions during the first month, and then at 3‐month intervals), plus home tilt training. The control arm received standard care with a similar protocol of home tilt training. The primary outcome was time to first syncopal recurrence during 1 year of follow‐up. Results: Fifty participants were randomized (mean age: 34.5 ± 14.8 years; 64% female). The rate of syncopal recurrence was 28% and 64% within the intervention and control arms, respectively, with significantly higher syncope‐free survival at 1 year in the intervention arm (Log‐rank p =.003). The frequency of recurrent syncopal events was significantly lower with physical training (p =.017). Participants in the intervention arm reported significantly higher adherence to the home tilt training program (80% vs. 52%; p =.037). Conclusion: Among patients with recurrent vasovagal syncope, a supervised program of tilt training and aerobic exercise reduced syncopal recurrence. Future trials are warranted to further investigate multimodal supervised physical techniques as a therapeutic approach in treating vasovagal syncope. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This retrospective study provides an analysis of the prevalence and detectability of canine distemper virus (CDV), feline leukemia virus (FeLV), and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) in ocelots (Leopardus pardalis) sheltered in a wild animal recovery center in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Blood samples of 19 rescued ocelots from 2019–20 were analyzed using FeLV p27 antigen enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) and commercial insulated isothermal reverse transcriptase PCR (iiRT-PCR) kits. Using this PCR we detected positive results for CDV (4/ 17; 23.5%) and FeLV (14/16; 87.5%), but not for FIV (0/8). Three previously positive cases of CDV and two of FeLV showed negative results on retesting 6 mo later. Moreover, a third analysis was conducted and was negative for CDV. Our results suggest that ocelots can recover from the local CDV and FeLV strains. An ELISA for the FeLV p27 antigen showed no capability to detect FeLV in ocelots that were confirmed positive by iiRT-PCR. Regional lineages, viral virulence, and host immune response capabilities should be addressed in further research to inform management and decision making for wildlife conservation. Aim: To investigate how legislative changes to rehabilitation implemented in secondary health care facilities. The subject of the study: the nosological structure of hospitalized morbidity; the state of organization, technologies and resources of rehabilitation in secondary health care facilities. Materials and Methods: The materials of the study were administrative data, local regulations and protocol records for the rehabilitation of secondary health care facilities in Kyiv in 2021. The calculation of relative values of quantitative data in percent is carried out. Content analysis, graphic and modeling methods were used. Results: The nosological structure of hospitalized morbidity was formed, in particular, diseases of the circulatory system – 18.2%, neoplasms – 13.7%, diseases of the digestive system – 9.7%, injuries, poisoning – 6.7%. The needs are likely to increase as a result of military events in Ukraine. A shortage of human resources, multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams, personalized rehabilitation technologies based on evidence-based medicine, digital communication technologies, infrastructure and financial support for rehabilitation has been identified. The introduction of a rehabilitation center into the structure of the secondary medical care institution, the involvement of extrabudgetary funding and the training of rehabilitation personnel can significantly improve the performance of rehabilitation tasks. Conclusions: The high need of patients for rehabilitation and the variety of rehabilitation tasks require the concentration of several elements in one rehabilitation center. Background: The burden of stroke is high in Romania and data regarding access to post – stroke rehabilitation are almost non–existent. We aimed to determine the percentage of patients who benefited from post–stroke rehabilitation and to describe the most common rehabilitation settings. Methods: A structured telephone-based questionnaire regarding access to post–stroke rehabilitation therapy and outcomes was administered to all patients with ischemic stroke who benefited from reperfusion therapy in a tertiary center in 2019. Results: 211 stroke patients received reperfusion therapy during the studied period. Out of these, 208 patients were included in the initial analysis and 109 patients were deemed eligible for post–stroke rehabilitation therapy. 57 patients (55.8%) performed post–stroke rehabilitation. In-hospital rehabilitation was reported by 35 patients (32.1%) with a median length of hospital stay of 14 days. 28 patients (25.6%) performed home based physical therapy with a median frequency of 3 sessions per week. 12 patients (11.1%) were admitted to nursing homes. Compared to stroke patients who did not perform in–hospital rehabilitation, those who did were younger (median age 65 years vs. 73 years, p=0.01) and more likely to have moderate–severe post–stroke disability (mRS score 3 – 5 at discharge 80% vs. 59.4%, p=0.03). mRS score at discharge ≤ 2 was a significant predictor for not pursuing post-stroke rehabilitation (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Approximately 50% of the stroke patients treated with reperfusion therapies were eligible for post–stroke rehabilitation and approximately 50% of them had access to rehabilitation therapy while only 30% had access to in-hospital rehabilitation.

Objective: To determine prevalence and factors associated with various infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, and Tuberculosis, among injection drug users (IDUs), from different rehabilitation centers in several cities of Punjab region in Pakistan. Methods: This study was conducted between September, 2019 – September, 2020. Total 78 rehabilitation centers were contacted, out of which 21 responded and 57 didn't, even after having focus group discussions with the centers’ administrators. Centers contacted were chosen randomly over various cities of Punjab; with Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala being major focus. A predesigned questionnaire with several open and closed ended questions was filled via interviewing each rehabilitation center administrator/staff to collect data for the study. Results: We found a prevalence of 7.96% for HBV, 9.61% for HIV, 0.82% for TB, and the highest 32.69% for HCV amongst the surveyed cohort. Conclusion: It is concluded that prevalence of infectious diseases in injection drug users is significantly higher than overall reported incidence, thus needs proper disease surveillance and mitigation programs on national level.

Background: Hospital-based outpatient physiotherapy is the standard of care for subacute rehabilitation after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in Singapore. This study explores the clinical effectiveness of a standardized rehabilitation model at community-based rehabilitation centers to align the appropriate utilization of tertiary and community rehabilitative resources., Methods: In this pilot study, patients who had undergone TKA were assigned to either control group (n=30) or to intervention group (n=29). The control group received usual hospital-based outpatient physiotherapy, while the intervention group received rehabilitation at a community-based rehabilitation center based on standardized institution protocol. Primary and secondary outcomes were assessed at baseline and at 3 months post TKA., Results: Baseline characteristics in both groups were not significantly different. All patients completed the study. At 3 months, there were no significant differences in the Time Up and Go test ( P <0.853), median 30 s chair rise ( P =0.347), knee flexion passive range of motion ( P =0.933), knee extension passive range of motion ( P =0.409), and presence of knee extension lag ( P =0.360). There was a lower pain intensity in the intervention group compared with the control group ( P =0.003)., Conclusions: A community-based post-acute TKA rehabilitative model demonstrated improvements in functional outcomes, and reduced pain intensity in study participants, with these findings being similar to that of standard of care hospital-based outpatient physiotherapy. Physical and motor disabilities that directly affect the mobility of the lower limbs generate dependence on the patient for their mobility and performance of daily activities, in some cases leading to overload on nursing staff and caregivers, manifested in muscle problems, in addition to risks to the patient due to unsafe conditions at the time they are being moved. To provide a solution to the safe transfer of paraplegic and tetraplegic patients in health care centers, this research arises, having as objective to design a mechanical device for the transfer of patients with motor disabilities in hospitals. The methodology used included the detection of needs from the direct and indirect user. Then generate the concepts, select the best proposal, and carrying out the detailed design including calculation, selection of components, and the structural analysis of critical parts. The result of the project was the design of a support device that complied with the established safety and design regulations, and that provides safety and comfort for both the patient and the caregiver who will be in charge of handling and transfer. This article identifies how beliefs, practices, and religious communities converge in the structuring of the evangelical drug rehabilitation model (ERM). Based on a qualitative study, we propose that the ERM shapes the ways of interpreting emotions and sensations based on a beliefs system that conceives the body as a battle field between good and evil. Sensations produced through ritual experience and symptomatic manifestations relative to withdrawal syndrome constitute key points of the culturally shaped somatic modes of attention (SMA) that are produced and transmitted within the evangelical rehabilitation centers (ERCs). This procedure grounds in prayer, cathartic emotive rituality, belief in forgiveness and God's calling; in testimony; and in the community of believers. We conclude that religious practices and beliefs constitute essential tools of the ERM and can be efficacious for users who are engaged in a spiritual quest. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper focuses on the issue of women’s involvement with drug abuse in Malaysia. The involvement with drug abuse is much more common among men; however, understanding women’s participation in drug use is critical, as it is increasing year-on-year. In this study, the researchers aim to understand the factors that contribute towards the involvement of women in drugs and the effectiveness of treatments provided by drug rehabilitation centers in order to help clients to stay sober. It is vital that this issue be curbed, as it will create a butterfly effect. This is because it not only impacts the individuals themselves, but also the community. Additionally, the situation becomes more critical as the opportunity for women drug abusers to be treated is quite limited compared to the opportunities given to men. Hence, this research finds that it is important to understand the phases before, during, and after becoming a drug abuser as it will also help to determine the effectiveness of the treatment and mitigate the tendency of women drug users to relapse.

OBJECTIVES: As patients recovering from the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) present with physical, respiratory, cognitive, nutritional, and swallowing-related impairments and mental health complications, their rehabilitation needs are complex. This study aimed to describe the demographic, clinical, and functional status after the discharge of COVID-19 survivors who underwent intensive multidisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation at the Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Institute of the University of Sao Paulo Medical School General Hospital and Lucy Montoro Rehabilitation Institute. We determined the most important factors related to the length of inpatient rehabilitation treatment and present the functional outcomes. METHODS: This was a retrospective study based on electronic medical records. In addition to the severity of COVID-19 and length of hospital stay for the management of COVID-19 and comorbidities, we collected sociodemographic data including age, sex, height, and weight. Functional assessments were performed using the Functional Independence Measure (FIM); Short Physical Performance Battery; Montreal Cognitive Assessment; Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale; Revised Impact of Events Scale; bioelectrical impedance; Functional Oral Intake Scale; oropharyngeal dysphagia classification; and nutritional assessment. Background/aim: Due to the increase in incarceration rates, the prison community has attracted much concern in the recent past. Although people in prison are often socially disadvantaged and vulnerable to a range of health problems, there is a lack of information on the oral health conditions of prisoners. Thus, the aim of this study was to survey the oral problems of a sample of the male incarcerated population of Brazil, focusing on dental trauma.Material and Methods: The research was undertaken over a three-month period in 2017. It was a cross-sectional study of 756 prisoners of the Curado Prison Complex, located in Recife, PE. Using a previously calibrated examiner, dental trauma was measured with the Andreasen index. Etiology of dental trauma and socio-demographic data were collected with questions developed for this survey. Standard descriptive statistics were used to report frequency estimates. The chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and Mann-Whitney U-test were used to compare groups. In addition, a binary logistic regression was performed to identify whether the studied variables could predict the occurrence of dental trauma.Results: The prevalence of dental trauma in the sample was 10.8% and most of the cases (42.7%) occurred due to violent events. A higher frequency of violent etiology was observed in cases that occurred during imprisonment (p = 0.037). Individuals that suffered dental trauma during incarceration were more likely to have been incarcerated for longer periods of time (p = 0.043). The main type of injury found was enamel and dentin fracture without pulp exposure (68%). Numerous wild species have managed to adapt to the specific conditions of the urbanized environment. Wild animals take advantage of the microclimate conditions and the available hiding places or food; however, they are also exposed to various risks in this environment. The aim of this study was to determine the causes of incidents between wild mammals and human infrastructure and activity in the city of Warsaw and to evaluate the effectiveness of an animal rehabilitation center. The second aim was to assess the factors (weather and land cover) that influence incidents involving wild mammals in Warsaw. We found that human infrastructure and activity cause most of the wild mammal incidents in the city. The frequency of small mammal incidents inWarsaw was dependent on the weather, mainly the ambient temperature. The proportion of built-up areas was usually associated with the number of such incidents. This relation was positive for species that tend to live in cities, and it was negative for species that avoid human proximity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The burden of stroke is high in Romania and data regarding access to post - stroke rehabilitation are almost non-existent. We aimed to determine the percentage of patients who benefited from post-stroke rehabilitation and to describe the most common rehabilitation settings. Methods: A structured telephone-based questionnaire regarding access to post-stroke rehabilitation therapy and outcomes was administered to all patients with ischemic stroke who benefited from reperfusion therapy in a tertiary center in 2019. Results: 211 stroke patients received reperfusion therapy during the studied period. Out of these, 208 patients were included in the initial analysis and 109 patients were deemed eligible for post-stroke rehabilitation therapy. 57 patients (55.8%) performed post-stroke rehabilitation. In-hospital rehabilitation was reported by 35 patients (32.1%) with a median length of hospital stay of 14 days. 28 patients (25.6%) performed home based physical therapy with a median frequency of 3 sessions per week. 12 patients (11.1%) were admitted to nursing homes. Compared to stroke patients who did not perform in-hospital rehabilitation, those who did were younger (median age 65 years vs. 73 years, p=0.01) and more likely to have moderate-severe post-stroke disability (mRS score 3 - 5 at discharge 80% vs. 59.4%, p=0.03). mRS score at discharge ≤ 2 was a significant predictor for not pursuing post-stroke rehabilitation (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Approximately 50% of the stroke patients treated with reperfusion therapies were eligible for post-stroke rehabilitation and approximately 50% of them had access to rehabilitation therapy while only 30% had access to in-hospital rehabilitation. Background: The number of those judicially detained in a rehabilitation facility according to sect. 64 of the German Criminal Code (StGB) has been increasing for years. Courts are regularly advised by forensic-psychiatric experts, for whom the examination of the requirements for admission to such facilities is now also part of their daily business. At the same time, the large number and complexity of these requirements represent a particular challenge, as there are no guidelines available for carrying out these assessments. Aim: This article draws together legal and practical perspectives and offers recommendations for forensic-psychiatric experts on how to proceed when carrying out such assessments to ensure the court has all the necessary information to decide about admission to a rehabilitation facility. Methods: Narrative overview of empirical literature, legislation and jurisdiction. Results: Identifying a ‚sufficiently substantial' prospect of treatment success poses a particular challenge for experts, especially as there is need for a qualified negative risk prognosis, which is to be related to committing crimes in the context of a tendency for excessive substance use. However, statements made on this basis need to take into account factors such as antisocial behaviour and /or previous contacts with the criminal justice system, motivational aspects as well as the analysis of personal and social resources. Conclusions: Psychiatric experts have a substantial influence on the judicial decisionmaking process according to sect. 64 of the German Criminal Code (StGB). L'alliance de travail est un prédicteur important des résultats de l'intervention auprès d'adultes et d'adolescents. L'établissement de l'alliance de travail avec les adolescents pose certains défis particuliers, notamment parce que la consultation est fréquemment initiée par un tiers, que leur motivation à changer est souvent faible et que l'intervention est parfois imposée. Identifier les facteurs susceptibles d'influencer la qualité de l'alliance de travail dans ce contexte est donc important. Cette étude vise à examiner les liens entre quatre caractéristiques individuelles et la qualité de l'alliance de travail précoce chez des adolescentes placées en centres éducatifs. Quarante-six adolescentes (12–17 ans) recrutées dans différents centres montréalais ont répondu à cinq questionnaires autorapportés évaluant la motivation au changement, le sentiment d'efficacité personnelle, l'attitude envers l'autorité, les difficultés comportementales présentées et la qualité perçue de l'alliance de travail. Les résultats d'une régression multiple suggèrent que la motivation au changement et le sentiment d'efficacité personnelle expliquent 39,5 % (p < 0,01) de la variance de la qualité perçue de l'alliance de travail. Ces résultats soulignent l'intérêt de ces variables comme cibles thérapeutiques potentielles pour favoriser une alliance de travail positive auprès d'adolescentes en centres éducatifs. The working alliance is an important predictor of the outcomes of intervention with adults and adolescents. Establishing the working alliance with adolescents involves some specific challenges. Indeed, the consultation among this population is often initiated by a third party, who is usually a parent or an authority figure. The intervention may even be imposed on the youth if his behaviour involves significant risks to himself or others, as is the case in rehabilitation centres. In addition, it is also important to note that their motivation to change is often low at the beginning of the intervention, which makes the development of the working alliance even more complex. Therefore, it seems relevant to identify factors that may influence the quality of the working alliance, especially when it is a coercive intervention such as in rehabilitation centres. This study aims to examine the links between some personal characteristics and the quality of the early working alliance among adolescent girls placed in rehabilitation centres. The four personal characteristics investigated are: motivation to change, self-efficacy, attitude towards authority figures and behavioural difficulties. Forty-six adolescent girls (12–17 years old) were recruited at the time of their admission to one of the rehabilitation centres located in Montreal. They all completed five self-reported questionnaires: the Working Alliance Inventory Short, the University of Rhode Island Change Assessment Scale, the Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Children, the Attitudes to Formal Authority Questionnaire, and the Youth Self Report. The results indicated that motivation for change (β =.55) and sense of self-efficacy (β =.36) are the variables most closely related to the quality of the perceived working alliance at the beginning of the intervention. Motivation to change and self-efficacy explained 39.5% (p <.01) of the variance of the perceived quality of the working alliance. Attitude towards authority and behavioural problems were not significantly associated with the quality of the working alliance. These findings are consistent with those of other studies conducted with adults or young people in other contexts. Our results suggest that motivation to change and self-efficacy are therapeutic targets to consider in order to promote the establishment of a positive working alliance at the beginning of an intervention with adolescent girls placed in rehabilitation centres. Persons with disabilities are a disparate group of the population with special healthcare needs. Rehabilitation services are intended to improve or reinstate the functionality of patients and enable them to achieve social reintegration. The provision of adequate healthcare and rehabilitation services improves their quality of life, increases their independence and is cost-effective for the health system and for society. A short presentation is made here of the rehabilitation sector in Greece, with a review of the legislative framework. This study aims to estimate the needs for rehabilitation services of the population of Rethymnon, in order to plan the establishment of an operational rehabilitation setting. Data were retrieved on inpatient care from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), and indicative times of hospitalization per dysfunction category were analyzed, based on which the needs were deduced for the population of Rethymnon as a whole. This was carried out because of the lack of official statistics for persons who need or who have received rehabilitation services. In this way, the needs for rehabilitation services can be estimated with reasonable accuracy, despite the lack of an official registry. The results showed that the present funding mechanism of the National Health Service, EOPYY, is far behind the current needs for rehabilitation. It is apparent that more detailed recording of disabled people and care indicators with respect to the type of disability is needed. Physical activity benefits patients in rehabilitation yet comes with various safety issues. The built environment impacts on both safety and physical activity. We aim to explore the role of the built environment in safety issues related to being physically active in rehabilitation. We conducted a case study at a free-standing rehabilitation center for patients with Multiple Sclerosis, neurologic, or locomotor issues. Patients participated in two interviews supported by activity tracking data. Care professionals participated in focus group interviews respectively with two therapists and four head nurses. Accessibility and physical barriers, visual connections and (in)dependence, and spatial familiarity are important themes when identifying aspects of the built environment in relation to reducing safety issues patients encounter during physical activity. Raising awareness about each of these among care and design professionals could help them to balance safety issues in relation to physical activity and to communicate about them in a nuanced way.
