The bachelor thesis focuses on issues of regulation and supervision of banks in Belarus. The main objective is the characterization of the supervision and regulation system in the Republic of Belarus, its basic features and attributes, the current situation of the banking sector in the context of regulation. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first one contains the basic concepts of regulation and supervision. The second part describes the historical development of supervision and regulation in epitome in the territory of Belarus. The third chapter is devoted to the current state of the regulatory system in the Republic of Belarus. The content of the conclusion is a summary of the acquired knowledge.

The aim of this PhD thesis is to analyze the history and current situation of hedge funds and assess their potential to destabilize financial markets. The findings of the analysis are used to validate the assumptions underlying the major regulatory changes of hedge funds in the key global economic centres after the financial crisis in 2008 and 2009. Since their inception early last century hedge funds have gone through a period of great expansion in the sixties, followed by a decline due to large losses sustained in the early seventies. The nineties meant a real breakthrough for hedge funds as a result of which they became prominent players in the alternative investment space. As of today, there is over ten thousand hedge funds that globally manage close to 3 trillion US dollars. Compared to mutual funds and other financial institutions the volume of assets under management is still relatively small, the rate of growth over the past fifteen years has however been very significant. What is emphasized with respect to the impact of hedge funds on financial markets is the contribution to increasing the liquidity and efficiency and their role on the financial derivatives market where hedge funds are actively involved in the transfer of risk. They are at the same time subject of criticism for their purported destabilizing effect on financial markets and contribution to fluctuations in the prices of investment instruments. Although the share of hedge funds in triggering major financial crises has not been conclusively established, these investment entities were one of the targets of the wide-ranging regulatory changes following the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009. The dissertation first discusses the history and current situation of hedge funds and defines the term hedge fund. The following section describes the basic characteristics and principles of their functioning and reviews the regulation in the major domiciles. The final chapter is focused on the empirical analysis of the impact of hedge funds on financial markets. The inputs for this analysis include a global hedge fund index and representative market indices and data from the CFTC on positions in the 10 year US government treasury note futures. In the first step the descriptive statistics for the transformed time series are presented. The second part of the analysis focuses on lagged correlations between returns and volatility of the global hedge fund index and representative market indices. Granger causality tests are applied in the following section to determine the relationships between the returns and volatility of hedge fund and representative market indices. In the final step of the analysis Granger causality tests are used to analyze the link between the changes in positions in the 10-year US treasury note futures held by hedge funds and the change in settlement prices of these futures with the aim to assess whether hedge funds have the capacity to move the market. In conclusion, the results of this analysis are discussed in light of the recent regulatory changes and the potential for the future growth of hedge funds is assessed.

The subject matter of this thesis is to approach prudential requirements for banking activities in the Czech Republic. Taking into account the importance of the banking sector in the economy of each country, this area is widely regulated by directly applicable European legislation, for example by new regulation (EU) No. 757/2013 of the European parliament and of the Council of 26 June 2013 on prudential requirements for credit institutions and investment firms. National regulation is contained mainly in Act No. 21/1992 Coll., on Banks, as amended. Particular chapters of this thesis focus first on general introduction to banking, i.e. a description of the banking systems and institutions operating in them. The main part describes specific rules of banking activities, beginning with requirements for obtaining a banking license. This thesis mainly deals with the regulation and supervision of the banking system. It examines the reasons and aims of regulation, banking supervision institutions, position of the Czech National Bank and the scope of their powers to domestic banks and other financial institutions in the Czech Republic. The aim of the thesis is to identify and present topical information on the current manner and degree of regulation and supervision, law methods of regulating activities, exploration of the latest changes and trends in the sphere of regulation and supervision in the Czech Republic and EU influence.

Bachelor thesis is focused on the regulation and supervision of insurance intermediaries. It analyzes the current legislation and characterized the different types of insurance intermediaries. It contains an analysis of sanctions granted in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and the interpretation of results. The master's thesis deals with the topic of the regulatory reform based on Basel III framework created by Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. The target of this thesis is to present tools and components of Basel III standard and focus on the identification and analysis of the key factors for classifying banks as systemically important. The issue is described from global perspective and special attention is given to European specification of regulatory rules. After the outbreak of the financial crisis the question of a deficient financial market regulation came to the forefront from the point of view of might causes. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the changes in the attitude towards creating the regulation measures and to analyze the impacts of the new set of reform Basel III on the Czech banking sector. The first chapter describes regulation and supervision of the financial markets and the attitudes towards creating the new regulation measures. The second chapter concentrates on the set of reform Basel III and its time implementation. The preformed analysis of the Czech banking sector indicates its preparedness for the Basel III implementation and the direct effects which are in connection with accepting this document possible. Further, there are also examined secondary effects caused by the Czech banking sector ownership structure.

In this paper we investigate the impact of banking regulation and supervision on the economy during crises and compare our results with current regulatory trends. Specifically, we employ a dataset consisting of 49,183 firms in 85 countries to estimate the influence on availability of credit and 642 banks in 48 countries to evaluate the influence on banking profits. We provide evidence that banks in countries with more independent regulators had higher profits, while the increased power of supervisory agency and disclosure requirements fostering private monitoring had a negative effect on profits. The evidence, on the other hand, suggests that private monitoring did increase the availability of credit during crisis. Although the current global approach to regulation does deal with many issues that arose from our analysis, the analysis did not provide any evidence of the beneficial effect of capital requirements that are at the core of this approach. This thesis deals primarily with issues of stress testing the banking sector in response to the current financial crisis. The first chapter briefly describes the basic causes of the financial crisis and its impact on the banking sector and the subsequent expansion into the European Union. A brief description of selected accepted European regulatory and supervisory reforms is followed. Their content is related to the stress tests. The second chapter describes in detail both the original and current stress testing methodology and shows the development in testing, which passed just after the outbreak of financial crisis. The additional tests of banks and the subsequent verification of test results are an integral part of the chapter. A key part of this work is to analyze the stress tests in Europe and then in CR for the year 2011. Test scenarios and specific test results are described here. In conclusion, the work tries to evaluate the adjustment of the Czech stress tests and their explanatory value compared to the European tests.

The issue of competences of central bank in monetary or foreign exchange policy, the optimal adjustment of regulation and supervision of financial market and also the necessary independence of this institution is subjected to intensive discussion at the present time economic policy. In the theoretical part I will define basic concepts and definitions relating to this issue. From a theoretical point of view I will describe the concept and function of central banking, the independence of central bank, its types and optimal settings. I will also characterize the regulation and supervision of financial markets with regard to the definitions, models, systems, objectives and instruments of this issue. I will define the basic theoretical aspects of monetary and foreign exchange policy. In the analytical part I will process an analysis of selected indicators of activities and powers of the central bank in our country since 1989, mainly from the independence of the central bank, setting of monetary policy, financial market supervision and foreign exchange policy. I will make a comparison of changes in the development and activities of central banks in these areas with regard to trends in the legislation and their powers. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the development of selected indicators of activity of the central bank in our country with a focus on the transformation of the Czech economy with a summary of significant changes.

The aim of the thesis is assess the development of central banking in the Czech Republic from 1918 to present. The theoretical and methodological part define the basic characteristics of the banking system. I will discuss and comment on theoretical perspectives on the role of the central bank will focus on the mainstream theory and the theory of free banking. In another part of the work I examine the nature, objectives and instruments of monetary policy. In the analytical part the evolution of central banking will be analyzed in the various stages according to the polity of the state. In each period I will analyze the legal framework, institutional arrangements and scope of the central bank. Title: The Czech National Bank, its legal status and scope of activities Abstract The aim of this thesis is to analyze the current status of legislation of the Czech National Bank, its content operations and powers with regard to the historical development of this institution, focusing on the banknotes and coins, monetary policy, financial stability, financial market supervision and possible impacts of euro adoption in the Czech Republic. The first part of the thesis will be devoted to the historical development and fundamental characteristics of the Czech National Bank as the central bank and its organizational structure, management and independence will be determined as well as the objectives pursued. The following chapters will deal with particular areas of activities which the Czech National Bank practices in accordance to its primary objective. More detailed focus in the thesis is on the emission function, the conduct of monetary policy and its instruments, analysis of financial stability and supervision of individual financial market segments. The last part of the thesis will be devoted to the issue of adopting the common European currency in the Czech Republic and to the changes which would be connected to that currency adoption. Bachelor thesis covers regulation and supervision of Financial Markets. First chapter deals with terms as regulation and supervision in theory, possible forms of institutional arrangement of regulation and supervision as well as their advantages and disadvantages, reasons for banking regulation and current national and international trends in the field of regulation and supervison. This bachelor thesis deals with bank regulation and supervision, which is enacting in the financial markets in the Czech Republic and Great Britain at this time. The work consists of three parts. In the first part of my theoretical work I specify basic definitions of this subject, arguments for regulation, forms of institutional arrangements and look at current trends in regulation in Europe. The second part focuses on comparing the regulation and supervision in the Czech Republic and Great Britain, and defines their specific differences. The introduction of the euro in the CR could significantly affect the position of the Czech National Bank, particularly in terms of transfer of competences in the field of monetary policy to the European Central Bank. The theoretical part covers the general theory of central banking. The scope, functions, objectives and instruments of the central bank are characterized in this part. The analytical part is focused on the development of competencies of the CNB from 1993 to the present and on the comparison of main functions, goals and tools between the CNB and the ECB. Bachelor thesis focuses on the institutional organization of the regulation and supervision in the Czech Republic and European Union level and progressive integration of regulation and supervision within the frame of European Union. The first two theoretical sections are devoted to defining the basic concepts, general supervision and integration, and comcer with the arguments for and against integration. The third section discusses in detail the development and integration process of regulation and supervision in the Czech Republic.
