The increasing volume of garment waste underscores the need for advanced sorting and recycling strategies. As a critical procedure in the secondary usage of waste clothes, qualitative classification of garments categorizes post-consumer clothes based on types and styles. However, this process currently relies on manual labor, which is inefficient, labor-intensive, and poses risks to workers. Despite efforts to implement automatic clothes classification systems, challenges persist due to visual complexities such as similar colors, deformations, and occlusions. In response to these challenges, this study introduces an enhanced intelligent machine vision system with attention mechanisms designed to automate the laborious and skill-demanding task of garment classification. Initially, a waste garment dataset comprising approximately 27,000 garments was curated using a self-developed automatic classification platform. Subsequently, the proposed attention method parameters were selected, and a series of benchmarks were conducted against state-of-the-art methods. Finally, the proposed system underwent a two-week online deployment to evaluate its running stability and sensitivity to similar colors, deformation, and occlusion in industrial production settings. The benchmarks indicate that the proposed method significantly improves classification accuracy across various models. The visualization interpretation of Grad-CAM reveals that the proposed method effectively handles complex environments by directing its focus toward garment-related pixels. Notably, the proposed system elevates classification accuracy from 68.28 % to human-level performance (>90 %) while ensuring greater running stability. This advancement holds promise for automating the classification process and potentially alleviating workers from labor-intensive and hazardous tasks associated with clothes recycling. Recycling aluminium in a rotary furnace with salt-fluxes allows recovering valuable alloys from hard-to-recycle waste/side-streams such as packaging, dross and incinerator bottom ash. However, this recycling route generates large amounts of salt-slag/salt-cake hazardous wastes which can pose critical environmental risks if landfilled. To tackle this issue, the metallurgical industry has developed processes to valorise the salt-slag residues into recyclable salts and aluminium concentrates, while producing by-products such as ammonium sulphate and non-metallic compounds (NMCs), with applications in the construction or chemical industries. This study aims to assess through LCA the environmental impacts of recycling aluminium in rotary furnaces for both salt-slag management routes: valorisation or landfill. It was found that this recycling process brings forth considerable net environmental profits, which increase for all the considered impact categories if the salt-slag is valorised. The main benefits arise from the production of secondary cast aluminium alloys, which is not unexpected due to the high energy intensity of aluminium primary production. However, the LCA results also identify other hotspots which play a significant role, and which should be considered for the optimisation of the process based on its environmental performance, such as the production of by-products, the consumption of energy/fuels and the avoidance of landfilling waste. Additionally, the assessment shows that the indicators for mineral resource scarcity, human carcinogenic toxicity and terrestrial ecotoxicity are particularly benefited by the salt-slag valorisation. The sustainability assessment of waste management systems requires tools capable of evaluating material quality degradation during recycling. Existing research has predominantly focused on the development of substitutability models for plastics, leaving a gap in addressing other materials like glass. Glass is commonly regarded as endlessly recyclable, even though its actual recyclability depends on several crucial factors, such as colour and pollutant contamination. Many Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies in this field assume a one-to-one substitution coefficient, neglecting material deterioration and inaccurately representing real-world scenarios. This study proposes and assesses a substitutability model for glass, aiming to measure the replacement extent between virgin materials and recycled crushed glass (cullet). The methodology is based on two key factors: technical quality substitutability, considering impurities and colour contaminations in cullet, and market applicability, accounting for market demand. Once formulated, the model was applied to a European case study on glass waste treatment. Two scenarios were considered: one assuming complete substitution between cullet and raw materials, the other incorporating quality degradation. Findings indicate that, accounting for quality degradation, only 83% of cullet effectively replaces raw materials, resulting in a decrease of the benefit associated with recycling of 13–23% for the different examined impact categories, compared to complete replacement assumption. [Display omitted] • A green recycling strategy based on catalytic pyrolysis of bamboo sawdust was proposed for spent LIBs. • The crystal phase of the material changed from LiNi x Co y Mn z O 2 to (Ni-Co/MnO/Li 2 CO 3)/C. • The size of the material was reduced by approximately 31.7 times after roasting. • Synergistic mechanism of thermo-reduction and carbon modification during the roasting was uncovered. Current Li-ion battery (LIB) recycling methods exhibit the disadvantages of low metal recovery efficiencies and high levels of pollution and energy consumption. Here, products generated via the in-situ catalytic pyrolysis of bamboo sawdust (BS) were utilized to regulate the crystal phase and nanoscale size of the NCM cathode to enhance the selective Li extraction and leaching efficiencies of other valuable metals from spent LIBs. The catalytic effect of the NCM cathode significantly promoted the release of gases from BS pyrolysis. These gases (H 2 , CO, and CH 4) finally transformed the crystal phase of the NCM cathode from LiNi x Co y Mn z O 2 into (Ni-Co/MnO/Li 2 CO 3)/C. The size of the spent NCM cathode material was reduced approximately 31.7-fold (from 4.1 μm to 129.2 nm) after roasting. This could be ascribed to the in-situ catalytic decomposition of aromatic compounds generated via the primary pyrolysis of BS into C and H 2 on the surface of the cathode material, resulting in the formation of the nanoscale composite (Ni-Co/MnO/Li 2 CO 3)/C. This process enabled the targeted control of the crystal phase and nanoscale size of the material. Water leaching studies revealed a remarkable selective Li extraction efficiency of 99.27 %, and sulfuric acid leaching experiments with a concentration of 2 M revealed high extraction efficiencies of 99.15 % (Ni), 93.87 % (Co), and 99.46 % (Mn). Finally, a novel mechanism involving synergistic thermo-reduction and carbon modification for crystal phase regulation and nanoscale control was proposed. This study provides a novel concept for use in enhancing the recycling of valuable metals from spent LIBs utilizing biomass waste and practices the concept of "treating waste with waste". Disposal and harmless utilization of coal-based solid waste, industrial sludge, and other bulk industrial solid waste is a sustainable and economical approach. In this study, coal gangue and printing and dyeing sludge were recycled to reconstruct high-strength ceramsite using a simple and scalable method. The high silica and alumina contents in coal gangue provided a foundation for ceramsite preparation, and the iron oxide in the printing and dyeing sludge could reduce the sintering temperature. The optimal synthesis conditions were as follows: Coal gangue: printing and dyeing sludge = 40:60; sawdust content of 9mass%; sintering temperature of 1175 °C for 15 min; and preheating temperature of 400 °C for 10 min. The designed ceramsite exhibited high compressive strength of 27.26 MPa, low 1-h water absorption of 1.26%, and bulk and apparent densities of 998 and 1597 kg/m3, respectively; thus, it was categorized as high-strength ceramsite. In determining the modelling mechanism during the sintering process, the silicon and aluminum distributions on the ceramsite surface obtained under the optimal preparation conditions was highly consistent, forming a silicoaluminate that supported the ceramsite strength. Sawdust addition increased the pore structure of the ceramsite. The heavy metals contained in the raw materials were well-immobilized in the ceramsite, indicating that the prepared ceramsites were free from secondary contaminants. Use of bulk solid waste to prepare high-strength ceramsites is a feasible resourceful and harmless utilization method, which is of great significance for bulk solid waste disposal and reuse. The resource utilization of fly ash has always been a popular topic in the field of solid waste recycling. This paper is based on the three-phase reaction system of "fly ash (s)-[Ca(OH)2–H2O/ethanol] (l)-CO2 (g)", using the bubble carbonization method to carry out heterogeneous phase reaction with fly ash as the core crystallized to form a fly ash-based calcium carbonate composite with higher brightness. The composite material is used in the filling of paper instead of calcium carbonate filler. Based on the previous research of our team, we focused on exploring the addition of miscible wettability additives (ethanol and acetone) to improve the wettability of the reaction system, thereby improving the whitening and modification effect of fly ash. The results showed that the addition of ethanol and acetone can significantly improve the coating effect of fly ash, however, acetone is slightly toxic, more volatile, and expensive than ethanol, so ethanol is more suitable as a wetting agent to be added to the reaction system. Under the optimal coating conditions, when the ratio of ethanol and water is 1:1, the brightness of fly ash can reach 71.62 % ISO, which is 17.29 % ISO higher than that without ethanol. The outlook for space exploration, and the long-term sustainable presence of humans in space, rely upon the advancement of in-situ manufacturing capabilities. In-space additive manufacturing (AM) has gained significant attention due to its potential to produce spare parts in-situ and facilitate repairs for extending space missions. However, to date, there is no AM system capable of processing high-performance engineering thermoplastic polymers within uncontrolled space conditions (i.e., reduced gravity, vacuum, and radiation environment). Additionally, the effect of ultra-violet (UV) radiation on printed parts has remained unexplored. In this work, a custom-built filament extrusion AM breadboard has been developed and tested enabling the fabrication of engineering thermoplastic polymers, whereby the machine was placed inside a vacuum chamber to partly mimic the harsh space environment. Mechanical (tensile and flexural) and thermal (thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis) tests were conducted on the printed specimens before and after exposure to UV aging. Moreover, the printed geometries underwent a recycling process involved the shredding of the pristine 3D-printed polymeric samples, the drying of the obtained granulates and finally the extrusion of 3D-printable filaments. The polymeric recycled 3D-printed specimens were then subjected to further mechanical and thermal testing, offering valuable insights into the feasibility of in-space AM and the potential to augment the circularity of the printed parts. The results of the mechanical and thermal tests, together with the effect of vacuum printing, UV aging, and recycling, are provided within the manuscript. By thinking with and through Buddhist cosmology, this paper explores the emergence of an ethical sensibility—what we call planetary cosmopolitanism—that is based on not just a spatially expanded ethic of care to ecological worlds, but also a temporally extended sense of justice to the future Earth. This transtemporal sense of ethical becoming reflects how the possibility of future 'rebirth' and accountability for past actions can motivate new ecological consciousness in the present. We forge these ideas through an empirical focus on popular Buddhist ecological practices in Singapore, where green recovery visions have primarily been driven by a secular and technocratic ethos. In negotiating the prevailing modernist ecological discourses, many Buddhists tap into an alternative imagining of cosmological time that regards Earth not simply as a place to be left behind at the end of one's life, but a permanent home for all future beings. This reading of human–ecology relations emphasises a causal responsibility to secure planetary well‐being, moving the making of cosmopolitan sensibilities from the realm of beneficence into justice. Yet, this renewed cosmopolitan sensibility to Earth is not simply a prescriptive ethical framework articulated on an abstract level, but materially performed and negotiated at the level of everyday life. Recycling becomes a site of rapprochement that allows Buddhists in Singapore to promote and negotiate their ecological consciousness within the strictures of the secular state. In doing so, it opens up new spaces of postcapitalist possibility that enable Buddhists, alongside people of other or no faith, to imagine alternative ways of inhabiting the planet. By developing an alternative account of cosmopolitanism grounded in Buddhist cosmology, we identify Buddhism as a decolonial lens through which we can critically reimagine human–ecology relations, and illuminate diverse modes and practices of ethical becoming in this age of ecological crisis. This paper develops an alternative account of cosmopolitanism ‐ 'planetary cosmopolitanism' ‐ that is grounded in Buddhist cosmology. The recycling approach for waste printed circuit boards (WPCBs) has evolved from stabilization to value-added processes. However, the variability in the value of their components hinders the development of comprehensive WPCB recycling strategies as a whole. This paper reviews advanced recovery strategies for various fractions including base metals, precious metals, rare earth metals, hazardous metals, and nonmetals. The focal points were to elucidate the complex WPCB structure and composition, and the associated recycling challenges, and to evaluate the advanced technologies for the recovery of various fractions. From a forward-looking recycling perspective, the different fractions should be treated separately to minimize environmental impact, recycle product usage, and maximize economic benefits. A comprehensive framework for resource recovery from WPCBs is proposed to guide future research and promote a green, circular economy in electronics waste management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The urgent requirement for efficient recycling strategies in the wind energy industry prompted this study to explore the behavior of methanesulfonic acid (MSA) in the solvolysis of carbon fiber‐reinforced plastics (CFRP), as an alternative to standard solvents and acids. For the investigation, two layers of carbon fibers, infused with amine‐based epoxy through a vacuum‐assisted resin infusion process, were applied. The results showed that MSA was the most effective solvent for the solvolysis of CFRP, compared to other investigated common acids. The recycled products demonstrated satisfactory properties for both the matrix and fiber, which were comparable to those of the virgin materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Light‐based 3D printing has received significant attention due to several advantages including high printing speed and resolution. Along with the development of new technologies, material design is key for the next generation of light‐based 3D printing. Conventional printable polymeric materials, also known as photopolymers or photoresins, often lead to thermosets–polymer networks cross‐linked by permanent covalent bonds which bring limited adaptability and restricted reprocessability. Dynamic bonds that can reversibly break and reform enable network rearrangement, thereby offering unprecedented properties to the materials such as adaptability, self‐healing, and recycling capabilities. Hence, introducing dynamic bonds into materials for light‐based 3D printing is a promising strategy to further expand and meet the diverse application scenarios of 3D printed multi‐functional materials and moreover meet more demanding sustainable and nature‐inspired design considerations (e.g., adaptability and self‐healing). Herein, an overview of recent advances in dynamic photopolymers for light‐based 3D printing, aiming to bridge these two promising research fields is presented. Importantly, the current challenges are also analyzed and perspectives for further developing dynamic photopolymers for light‐based 3D printing and their potential applications are provided. The use of molecular photoswitches has spread to virtually every field of pure and applied chemistry because of the extraordinary level of control they provide over the behavior of matter at the smallest scales. Photoswitches possess at least two different states with distinct structures and/or electronics and further functionalization of their core chromophore structures is needed to tailor them for a specific application. In this work we present a different concept for the generation and use of molecular photoswitches. It allows not only simultaneous establishment of photochromism and functionalization, but also full recyclability of a non‐photochromic precursor material. Using a high‐yielding and reversible ammonium salt formation, a functional group is introduced into a symmetric precursor while at the same time a strong electronic push‐pull character is established in the structure. The resulting desymmetrization leads to efficient photoswitching capacity and the functional group can be fully removed subsequently by a simple heating step recovering the precursor for another functionalization round. We finally demonstrate feasibility of this concept over two consecutive closed loop functionalization/photoswitching/recovery steps. This concept offers great potential in any chemical research and application driven area but especially for the creation of responsive reprogrammable materials, no‐background photoswitch labeling, and sustainable chemistry. The article presents a new concept for the generation and use of molecular photoswitches. A reversible alkylation reaction can convert a symmetrical precursor into an efficient photoswitch. The thermal stability and photoswitch properties of functionalized diaryl-HTI switches were investigated. It was shown that the photoswitches can be efficiently switched in polar solvents and exhibit pronounced photochromism. By substitution and functionalization, a chiral photoswitch can be produced, which has chiroptic properties. The authors emphasize the versatile application possibilities of these concepts in sustainable chemistry and optically controllable nanosystems. [Extracted from the article]

Food waste has become a major problem in this era and is considered a waste of resources. While food waste is increasing, the energy demand is increasing as well. Producing energy from food waste can be a suitable solution for the two problems. Food waste is rich in nutrients and organic compounds. This composition makes food waste suitable to produce hydrogen. Hydrogen has attracted the attention of researchers these days because of its high ability to produce energy with no side products other than water. Food waste can be converted to hydrogen through a thermochemical process called gasification. Gasification converts biomass into a mixture of combustible gases via partial oxidation under high temperatures. In this review, different types of food waste gasification are explored. The results from recent studies are summarized in tables and compared based on the hydrogen yield and process variables. Incrementing temperature and residence time favored hydrogen production along with decrementing feed concentration. Moreover, the usage of a suitable catalyst has significantly enhanced the hydrogen production. It is generally recognized that the use of physical and digital information-based solutions for tracking plastic materials along a value chain can favour the transition to a circular economy and help to overcome obstacles. In the near future, traceability and information exchange between all actors in the value chain of the plastics industry will be crucial to establishing more effective recycling systems. Recycling plastics is a complex process that is particularly complicated in the case of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastic because of its versatility and use in many applications. This literature study is part of a larger EU-funded project with the acronym ABSolEU (Paving the way for an ABS recycling revolution in the EU). One of its goals is to propose a suitable traceability system for ABS products through physical marking with a digital connection to a suitable data-management system to facilitate the circular use of ABS. The aim of this paper is therefore to review and assess the current and future techniques for traceability with a particular focus on their use for ABS plastics as a basis for this proposal. The scientific literature and initiatives are discussed within three technological areas, viz., labelling and traceability systems currently in use, digital data sharing systems and physical marking. The first section includes some examples of systems used commonly today. For data sharing, three digital technologies are discussed, viz., Digital Product Passports, blockchain solutions and certification systems, which identify a product through information that is attached to it and store, share and analyse data throughout the product's life cycle. Finally, several different methods for physical marking are described and evaluated, including different labels on a product's surface and the addition of a specific material to a polymer matrix that can be identified at any point in time with the use of a special light source or device. The conclusion from this study is that the most promising data management technology for the near future is blockchain technology, which could be shared by all ABS products. Regarding physical marking, producers must evaluate different options for individual products, using the most appropriate and economical technology for each specific product. Rapid urbanization in many cities has produced massive amounts of problematic excavation soil. The direct disposal of untreated excavation soil often leads to significant land use and severe environmental concerns. A sustainable solution is to transform the soil waste into high-quality nano-calcined excavation soil (NCES) for application as a substitute for cement in construction. However, research in this area is very limited. This study presents a systematic investigation of the nano-sized calcined soil materials from preparation to application in cementitious material. The influence of milling parameters, including the rotational speed, milling duration, ball diameter, and milling strategy, was investigated to produce NCES with various specific surface areas. The effect of NCES substitution (15 wt% of Portland cement) in cementitious materials was then examined for mechanical performance, hydration dynamics, hydration products, and microstructure. A cement mix with very fine NCES (specific surface area of 108.76 m2/g) showed a 29.7% enhancement in mechanical strength and refined pore structure while a cement mix with un-grounded calcined soil showed a mechanical loss in comparison to the Control specimen. Delayed and reduced heat release at an early age was observed in a cement paste mixed with NCES. The underlying mechanism was investigated. Increased urbanization and population lead to increased consumption of manufactured goods. This ultimately results in increased production of waste. Identifying its composition is crucial for planning an effective solid waste management strategy. This study assesses the characteristics and composition of the waste generated within the Uyo Capital City Development Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. This is to aid in developing a scientifically supported waste management pilot system for the state. Direct waste sorting and characterization were conducted on the municipal solid waste arriving at the landfill during the study period. Over 50% of the generated wastes are recyclables and composed of plastics, metals, and paper, while the fraction of organic waste is over 30%. Similarly, the waste generation per capita is 1.34 kg/person/day, while the generation forecast over the next ten years is estimated to increase by approximately 40%. Furthermore, over 9,000 surveys were completed by residents to establish a problem statement about the existing waste collection and disposal system, and possible solutions. Importantly, a majority of survey respondents were willing to source-separate their wastes and supported paying a fee for adequate waste collection. This strongly indicates that an integrated waste management system could be established to generate value from the collected waste. Beer is among the most popular beverages in the world, with the production distributed uniformly between the biggest continents, so the utilization of brewing by-products is essential on a global scale. Among their potential recipients, the plastics industry offers extensive range of potential products. Herein, the presented study investigated the application of currently underutilized solid brewing by-products (brewers' spent grain, spent hops, spent yeast) as fillers for highly-filled poly(ε-caprolactone)-based composites, providing the first direct connection between spent hops or spent yeast and the polymer composites. Comprehensive by-product characterization revealed differences in chemical composition. The elemental C:O ratio, protein content, and Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity varied from 1.40 to 1.89, 12.9 to 32.4 wt%, and 2.41 to 10.24 mg/g, respectively, which was mirrored in the composites' structure and performance. Morphological analysis pointed to the composition-driven hydrophilicity gap limiting interfacial adhesion for high shares of brewers' spent grain and spent hops, due to high hydrophilicity induced by carbohydrate content. Phytochemicals and other components of applied by-products stimulated composites' oxidative resistance, shifting oxidation onset temperature from 261 °C for matrix over 360 °C for high spent yeast shares. Simultaneously, spent yeast also provided compatibilizing effects for poly(ε-caprolactone)-based composites, reducing complex viscosity compared to other fillers and indicating its highest affinity to poly(ε-caprolactone)due to the lowest hydrophilicity gap. Especially for plastic packaging waste, significant increases are necessary to reach the EU recycling targets for 2025 and 2030. In addition to improving separate collection and introducing a deposit system for specific fractions, the share of plastic packaging in mixed municipal solid waste (MSW) could be utilized. In Austria, about 1.8 million tonnes of mixed MSW are generated. This includes about 110,000 t/a of plastic packaging waste. Most of the mixed MSW (94 %) is sent directly or via residues from pre-treatment, such as mechanical–biological treatment or waste sorting, to waste incineration. While materials such as glass and metals can also be recovered from the bottom ash, combustible materials such as plastics must be recovered before incineration. This work aims to evaluate the recovery potential of plastic packaging waste in mixed MSW with automated waste sorting. For this purpose, two of the largest Austrian waste sorting plants, with a total annual throughput of about 280,000 t/a, were investigated. The investigation included regular sampling of selected output streams and sorting analysis. The results show that the theoretical recovery potential of plastic packaging from these two plants is 6,500 t/a on average. An extrapolation to Austria results in a potential of about 83,000 t/a. If losses due to further treatment, such as sorting and recycling, are considered, about 30,000 t/a of recyclate could be returned to plastic production. Usage of thermoplastic composites with low densities is increasing, with lightness coming to the fore especially in the aerospace industry while various sectors like automotive, electronics, sport etc. are also following the trend. Important factors for the preference of thermoplastics are the increase in the amount of waste of conventional materials in addition with increasing product requirements. Composite wastes are accumulated in certain composite collection centers in the world and disposed by incineration. Until at least 2025, studies on recycling are carried out in the European Union. Within this regard, the most important feature of thermoplastics is that they can be melted and shaped again at high temperatures. In this way, recycling of fibers and matrices is possible. Mainly thermal and chemical methods are preferred for obtaining fibers while mechanical methods are preferred for obtaining the matrix. Hence, it is aimed to use both open and closed loop recycling in order to reduce wastes, energy consumption, fossil fuel consumption, and the carbon footprint. Note that these recycling approaches are also of significance for the circular economy concept. Correspondingly, this review thematizes current recycling methods for thermoplastic composites. Polymers containing N‐(acryloxy)phthalimides were subjected to electrochemical decarboxylation under mild conditions, which led to the formation of transient alkyl radicals. This approach enabled the production of poly(ethylene‐co‐methyl acrylate) and poly(propylene‐co‐methyl acrylate) copolymers, which are difficult to synthesize by direct polymerization. Highlights Glass fiber‐reinforced polymer (GFRP), extensively employed in diverse industries, generates considerable waste, especially from decommissioned wind turbine blades. Our research group has developed a new method of mechanical recovery for GFRP from wind turbine blades. In this study, waste GFRP was processed into a mixed particle size of 0.9–6 mm using a crusher and a screening machine, and then added as reinforcement materials to particleboards. The effects of different levels of four factors (GFRP addition, hot pressing temperature, hot pressing time, and binder dosage) on the properties of GFRP particleboards were evaluated by orthogonal experiments. The study results showed that the particleboards with 30 wt% GFRP improved modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE), and internal bonding strength (IB) by 74.94%, 42.28%, and 92.05%, respectively, compared to pure poplar particleboards. Moreover, GFRP particleboards demonstrated better water resistance and dimensional stability than commercial particleboards and excelled in thermal stability. Recycling GFRP waste from decommissioned wind turbine blades and incorporating it into particleboard production can reduce environmental pollution, increase the resource recovery utilization rate, and contribute to sustainable manufacturing practices. Low‐cost and efficient methods of recycling wind turbine blades were proposed. Recycled GFRP from wind turbine blades can be used as reinforcement for particleboard. Endosomal trafficking of TrkA is a critical process for nerve growth factor (NGF)‐dependent neuronal cell survival and differentiation. The small GTPase ADP‐ribosylation factor 6 (Arf6) is implicated in NGF‐dependent processes in PC12 cells through endosomal trafficking and actin cytoskeleton reorganization. However, the regulatory mechanism for Arf6 in NGF signaling is largely unknown. In this study, we demonstrated that EFA6A, an Arf6‐specific guanine nucleotide exchange factor, was abundantly expressed in PC12 cells and that knockdown of EFA6A significantly inhibited NGF‐dependent Arf6 activation, TrkA recycling from early endosomes to the cell surface, prolonged ERK1/2 phosphorylation, and neurite outgrowth. We also demonstrated that EFA6A forms a protein complex with TrkA through its N‐terminal region, thereby enhancing its catalytic activity for Arf6. Similarly, we demonstrated that EFA6A forms a protein complex with TrkA in cultured dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. Furthermore, cultured DRG neurons from EFA6A knockout mice exhibited disturbed NGF‐dependent TrkA trafficking compared with wild‐type neurons. The present study was conducted to evaluate the availability of citrus byproduct (CBP) as a vitamin C additive compared with the L-ascorbyl-polyphosphate (LAPP) for juvenile Korean rockfish Sebastes schlegelii. Four experimental diets, based on the basal diet (Con; semi-purified, crude protein 48%), were prepared by supplementing LAPP or CBP to achieve a dietary vitamin C concentration of 90 or 360 mg/kg (designated as LAPP90, LAPP360, CBP90, and CBP360, respectively). Three replicate groups of S. schlegelii (mean body weight ± standard deviation = 4.5 ± 0.0 g) were fed the experimental diets for 13 weeks. After the feeding trial, growth performance, feed utilization efficiency, and survival were significantly lower in the Con group. Liver vitamin C concentration was significantly increased (36.7–117 mg/kg) with increasing dietary LAPP levels; however, there was no significant difference in the CBP groups (14.2–14.3 mg/kg) compared with the Con group. Bone collagen concentration was significantly affected by LAPP and CBP supplementation. The LAPP and CBP groups showed significantly higher lysozyme activity and total immunoglobulin levels than the Con group. Disease resistance against Streptococcus iniaewas significantly improved in the LAPP and CBP groups (60–92% survival) than in the Con group (39% survival). These results indicate that dietary vitamin C is essential for S. schlegelii and CBP could be a LAPP substitute as a vitamin C additive. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fiber composite materials are key components of numerous future technologies. This results in a strongly increased demand and also in increasing amounts of waste in the upcoming years. This review article will provide an overview of the state of the art of common recycling strategies and technologies, with particular focus on the advantages and challenges of glass fiber‐reinforced polymer recycling. Millions of used or worn-out tyres are disposed of by many countries annually. These tyres can be put to good use when recycled. Used tyres are among the most problematic and challenging sources of solid waste, especially in landfills. Therefore, the use of waste tyres for composite materials having desired performance properties can be used as a means of disposing of the tyres. Fibrous material-reinforced composites with enhanced physical and mechanical performance and incorporating sisal fibres were produced using waste tyre material, sisal, and polyester resin. The physical and mechanical properties of hybrid composite board panels, including flexural strength, compression strength, tensile strength, and water absorption, were determined according to ASTM Standards. The rubber tyre particles used in the study had a size of 1.00 mm, and the sisal used had an average length of 6mm. A systematic experimental design was formulated and worked accordingly in the fabrication of the composite. The hybrid composite produced has adequate mechanical properties to perform as a substitute for solid wood in several applications such as tabletops, general purpose, load-bearing boards, ceiling boards, furniture, door panels and partitioning boards. Although noise pollution appears to be a minor issue, it worsens as a result of urbanization and population growth. Unwanted noises have a wide range of negative effects, including anxiety, hostility, high blood pressure, tinnitus, hearing loss, and sleep difficulties. The researchers are compelled to conduct a creative search in order to uncover future environmental solutions due to the noise problem, which is becoming each day worse. Moreover, the textile sector, which is growing day by day, generates huge amounts of waste with the effect of fast fashion trend. The objective of this study is to develop ecofriendly acoustic panels utilizing recycled textile waste and thermoplastic polypropylene (PP) fibers. Within the scope of the study, waste fabrics made of viscose, lyocell, flax, cotton, and polyester are shredded into fibers, and sandwich panels including waste fibers bonded together with PP fibers are generated using the hot press technique. In addition to the use of natural and synthetic fibers, the effects of surface shape (perforated-imperforated) and layer thickness (5 mm and 10 mm) on acoustic performance are examined. The results of the sound absorption and sound transmission loss tests reveal that the acoustic properties of the samples improve as the sample thickness increases, but the perforation process does not have the desired favorable impact on samples of the same thickness. Additionally, the outcomes demonstrate that around 2000 Hz, natural and regenerated fibers with high cellulose content had the best sound absorption coefficients around 0.60. The aim of this study is to explore a method for modifying waste brick powder (WBP) in order to reapply it to rubber products for effective resource recycling. Firstly, we use the auto polymerization of catechol/polyamine (CPA) on the surface of WBP to form a poly catechol/polyamine (PCPA) coating as an intermediate reaction platform. And then the macromolecular modifier, epoxy-functionalized elastomer (ethylene vinyl acetate-glycidyl methacrylate terpolymer) (EVMG), is further grafted onto the PCPA coating to prepare the WBP@EVMG hybrid materials. During the preparation of the WBP@EVMG hybrid materials, a ring-opening reaction between the amine group of PCPA and the epoxy group of EVMG occurs. The NR/WBP@EVMG composites are prepared by mechanical blending. The interfacial interactions between WBP@EVMG and NR are analyzed and verified in detail by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and rubber process analyzer (RPA). It is shown that the modified NR/WBP composites show increased vulcanization rate and better mechanical properties, and the tensile strength, abrasion resistance, cracking strength, and wet slip resistance of NR/WBP@EVMG-15 are increased by 29%, 6%, 16%, and 11%, respectively, compared with that of NR/WBP composites, which provides a unique idea for the reuse of waste brick powder in rubber. Within the circular economy framework in Africa, sustainable waste management can contribute to improving the environment and creating green jobs. However, recycling activities are mostly carried out by informal workers, who are often forgotten in discussions about the circular economy. To ensure the development of a socially just circular economy, their voices must be heard and their needs accounted for. This study took place in Rwanda, a circular economy leader in Africa, and explored the experiences of workers engaged in biowaste recycling, with a particular focus on the distinctions between the experiences of female and male workers. We used photovoice as a methodology, allowing waste workers to visually report on the benefits and drawbacks of being involved in biowaste recycling. Seventeen waste recyclers took pictures representing different working experiences, which was followed by individual in-depth interviews to elicit the meaning behind each picture. Data analysis consisted of a reflexive thematic content analysis of interview transcripts and a participatory data analysis with the workers. The results show that the workers valued their jobs for their social relations at work, being responsible for a task, being productive, and generating savings. Workers negatively highlighted the health risks associated with waste sorting, difficult working conditions, and low salaries. We found gendered differences in workers' marital status and access to paid work opportunities. Although working in waste recycling encompasses occupational risks, this photovoice study highlights that access to work improves workers' relative well-being and that this type of circular economy can help create meaningful jobs. Our objective is to achieve the societal implementation of the Circular Economy Program for Automobile Carbon Fibers. This involves recycling carbon fibers sourced from carbon fiber reinforced plastics/carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics (CFRP/CFRTP) discarded from automobiles and reintegrating them into the manufacturing processes of automobiles. Although, the existing carbon fiber recycling technology recycles the carbon fiber into a finely chopped state; it is not the original continuous carbon fiber product. A novel recycling technology is elucidated herein, referred to as the electrolytic sulfuric acid method (ESAM). The ESAM recycles carbon fibers by decomposing only the resin component of CFRP/CFRTP into CO2 and water using oxidative active species generated by electrolytic sulfuric acid. This method can (1) be applied to all resins, (2) maintains strength of the recycled carbon fibers, and (3) regenerates continuous carbon fibers. Moreover, it is the only technology applicable to CFRP pressure tanks. The successful recycling of continuous carbon fiber from pressure tanks has been achieved, enabling the production of new tanks and unidirectional CFRTP tape. This technology recycles the original continuous carbon fiber product, thus enabling a "close" resource circulation cycle. We have not yet confirmed the number of times recycling can be performed. However, according to the method described in this paper, the recycling process can yield continuous carbon fibers without a decrease in physical properties. Therefore, theoretically, it becomes possible to recycle indefinitely and revert the fibers to their original state, provided that the strength reduction during product use is not a significant consideration. In this research, a mechano-thermal process was employed to recycle alkaline and Zn/C spent batteries, resulting in the synthesis of ZnMn 2 O 4 nanopowder. This nanopowder serves as an efficient photocatalyst under visible light exposure. Results from X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated that the ZnMn 2 O 4 phase was completely formed by 5 h ball milling of spent batteries powder and then heat treatment at 800 °C. A relatively loose agglomerated ZnMn 2 O 4 powder with a polygonal shape and an average size of 95 nm was obtained. The obtained nanopowder had a relatively high specific surface area of 32.3 m2/g. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) showed a band gap of 1.55 eV for ZnMn 2 O 4 nanopowder, and the Mott-Schottky plot showed a valence band (VB) of 0.87 eV. A relatively slow recombination rate of photoexcited electron-holes was shown by the photoluminescence (PL) result. In addition, the photocatalytic performance was studied by degradation of methylene blue (MB), methyl orange (MO), and phenol under visible light. The most significant degradation rate of 92 % for MB occurred after 180 min. The detailed investigation of pollutant degradation kinetics and mechanism was conducted through experiments that included scavengers. Holes and superoxide radicals constitute the primary species involved in photocatalytic reactions. The stability and recyclability experiments also showed favorable photocatalytic efficiency even after multiple uses. The most important achievement that can be emphasized in this research from the environmental aspect is the facile and green recycling of the spent batteries into a photocatalyst with the ability of pollutant degradation in the aqueous solution. Solar photovoltaic systems can reduce carbon emissions by harnessing green energy from the sunlight, however, tremendous end-of-life solar panels may pose a threat to the local environment in the coming decades. What's worse, fewer regulations have been mandated to deal with the disposal of solar waste. To address this issue, this paper investigates a game-based, government-subsidized solar recycling model, and extends the model to a dynamic system. By analyzing the equilibrium outcomes, optimal decisions are revealed for all stakeholders. More importantly, we find regulatory subsidies can benefit all members of the solar recycling chain. Furthermore, when confronted with low-quality solar panels with a high degradation rate, we suggest that the government announces a low R&D subsidy rate. Even so, the level of the manufacturer's R&D efforts is still high, which leads to more R&D subsidies provided by the government. Based on an analysis of the dynamic system, it's better to be extremely careful when the government enacts the subsidy policy. The main objective of this article is to study the role of the widely adopted crushing techniques, viz., impact and compression, on the physical, chemical, and morphological properties of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA). Five fundamental parameters of RCA, viz., hydrated cement-mortar paste (HCMP) concentration, specific density and absorption, aggregate comminution, chemical composition, and surface characteristics, were studied to achieve this objective. These parameters were studied for various coarse and fine RCA size ranges, including concrete fines. The results indicated that the shattering of concrete chunks in an impact crusher could lead to the production of well-graded RCA with less HCMP; this detached HCMP from coarser fractions was found to increase the reactivity of concrete fines by around 29%. In addition, the produced RCA was found to possess a high concentration of cubical and spherical particles. Both these benefits, i.e., lower HCMP and regular shape characteristics, were found to significantly affect the strength properties of recycled aggregate concrete. However, due to cleavage failure in compression crushing, coarser RCA with higher concentrations of blade and disc-shaped particles and higher HCMP content were produced. The fracture failure associated with compression crushing led to the production of less amorphous concrete fines with ∼45% higher quartz content. However, the fineness of these concrete fines was 44% higher, indicating its potential as a filler material. Interestingly, the HCMP was found to reduce the surface roughness of natural aggregates, and this might be one of the additional reasons for the poor interfacial transition zone between RCA and the new mortar matrix. Construction and demolition waste (CDW) produced in a construction work site generates problems in its management. Among the CDW, we can find polymers, which create an added problem because of their slow decomposition, nonreuse, and whose manufacture generates greenhouse gases, which are harmful to the environment. Therefore, to reduce and recycle CDW as an alternative raw material to manufacture construction materials and elements and minimize the waste sent to landfill is urgently needed. This article analyzes the incorporation of CDW polypropylene fibers from single-use slings into gypsum and plaster composites. Additionally, commercial polypropylene fibers were also incorporated to compare the results. For this, several specimens were prepared adding different weight percentages of CDW fibers from 1% to 4% and tested to determine their physical and mechanical properties: bulk density; superficial hardness; flexural and compression strength; and bonding strength. Results show that it is viable to use CDW polypropylene fibers to manufacture new gypsum-based composites, as all the results surpass the minimum values determined by the applicable standards. Better results were obtained when CDW polypropylene fibers were used instead of commercial ones. The increase of flexural strength is more representative than other mechanical properties. The inclusion of CDW fibers in composites allows the reduction of slings thrown into landfills, which reduces the generation of greenhouse gases to the environment in the manufacture of new fibers for mortar reinforcement. Since Random Access Memory (RAM), one of the main parts of computers contains a remarkable quantity of precious metals, applying flotation at the pre-concentration stage to recycle these metals can result in a more cost-effective, user-friendly, and environmentally friendly process compared to direct chemical methods. While the significance of physical characteristics like particle size and shape in the flotation process is well established, the impact of particle shape in the flotation process utilized in the recycling of end-of-life (EoL) RAMs hasn't yet been thoroughly investigated. To fill this gap, a two-stage coarse flotation approach is used for the selective recovery of plastic and valuable metallic particles for sustainable development. The particle geometry of metallic particles recovered by flotation was characterized by axis measurement on the images by optical microscope that allows us to distinguish particles of different sizes and colors that make up the sample and evaluated in terms of particle size distribution (PSD), elongation (E) and roundness (R) parameters. The results showed that after the plastic fraction is effectively removed, it is possible to produce pre-concentrated products with high metal content (more than 50 % Cu content at the 1st stage and 1800 g/t Au content at the 2nd stage using 900 g/t KAX) in an economical and environmentally friendly way. Thus, it was concluded that the gold and copper metallic particles in the reduced-size EoL RAM cards could be easily floated by attaching them to the air bubble with the help of the collector, thanks to their flat shape. Life cycle thinking methods such as life cycle assessment (LCA) and costing (LCC) were originally developed to assess the performance of products and services (business-making decisions). However, they are increasingly deployed to support policy-making along the entire policy cycle, including via impact assessment (IA) of different policy options. These applications are associated with a number of challenges, mainly related to the dynamic and prospective nature of policy IA, typically forward-looking into 10–20 years ahead. This requires the application of prospective scenario analyses to develop the baseline scenario, reflecting the 'do nothing' into the future (business-as-usual), and the alternative scenarios, reflecting the consequences incurred by the implementation of the policy options under study. Such prospective and broadened boundary nature of policy IA challenges traditional LCA/LCC practices mostly based on retrospective, static scenarios and datasets. The present study provides an overview of recent IA studies supporting waste policy to show the state-of-the-art and the main challenges associated with the application of life cycle methods in IA, focusing on the most recent EU waste and circular economy policies. Moreover, since specific and transparent guidance on how to implement consistently these methods in policy IA is lacking, the study provides an initial guidance for application of life cycle thinking in IA drawing upon the knowledge obtained conducting waste policy IA studies. Different processes were tested to investigate whether it is possible to recycle the composite material. Thereby, comminution with cutting stress is particularly suitable for disintegration. Next on, the filter medium could be separated very well with the help of a zig‐zag separator. The sorting of polyurethan foam and polypropylene hard plastic could be achieved with a dense media separation. Spent lithium‐ion batteries are harboring the characteristics of hazardous waste and high‐value resources, so efficient recycling is of great significance. The cathode material is considered as an interesting target for repurposing. Despite some important reviews give commendable emphasis to recycling technologies, there is still a dearth of exploration of recycling mechanisms. This deficiency of awareness highlights the need for further research and development in this area. This review aims to systematically review and thoroughly discuss the reduction reaction mechanism of each method regarding different cathode materials. And systematically digest the selection of reducing agent and the effect of reduction reaction on material regeneration are systematically digested, as well as the impact of the reduction reaction on the regeneration of materials. This review emphasizes the importance of balancing efficiency, economic and environmental benefits in reuse technologies. Finally, the review proposes an outlook on the opportunities and challenges facing the reuse of key materials for next‐generation spent batteries aimed at promoting the green and sustainable development of lithium‐ion batteries, circular economy and ecological balance. This case study investigated waste management in a small, rural, Queensland hospital identifying areas where staff could reduce CO2e within the context of what is logistically possible. Phase I captured waste streams and disposal data for 1 May 2022–31 May 23 in a 20-bed Queensland Health hospital and included three audits of the hospital’s pharmaceutical waste bin. Phase II comprised semi-structured interviews with seven staff. Most potentially recyclable waste was being disposed of in the clinical, pharmaceutical, and general waste streams. All participants were interested in recycling more if appropriate bins were accessible in their work and lunch areas and recycling education was provided. Between 1 May 2022 and 31 May 2023, the CO2e were 44.53t, which equates to approximately 48,327 car km. This study identified opportunities for hospital-wide recycling which would reduce CO2e, waste collection fees, and landfill volume. Zusammenfassung To increase the recycling rate of components used in electric vehicles, metal–polymer composites are to be separated. As a basis, samples of polymers are ground in a hammer mill to analyze the influence of various pretreatments. The resulting particle size distributions are related to the mechanical properties of the polymers. The results can be used for a comminution of a metal–polymer composite from an electric vehicle's battery housing and show that lower temperatures perform the best for individual materials and composites. The complexity of the components and the type of joining also influence the comminution success of composite components, as a separation of the materials is easier with low complexity and force closure. As one of the five major engineering plastics, polyamide brings many benefits to humans in the fields of transportation, clothing, entertainment, health, and more. However, as the production of polyamide increases year by year, the pollution problems it causes are becoming increasingly severe. This article reviews the current recycling and treatment processes of polyamide, such as chemical, mechanical, and energy recovery, and degradation methods such as thermal oxidation, photooxidation, enzyme degradation, etc. Starting from the synthesis mechanism of polyamide, it discusses the advantages and disadvantages of different treatment methods of polyamide to obtain more environmentally friendly and economical treatment schemes. Finding enzymes that can degrade high-molecular-weight polyamides, exploring the recovery of polyamides under mild conditions, synthesizing environmentally degradable polyamides through copolymerization or molecular design, and finally preparing degradable bio-based polyamides may be the destination of polyamide. Designers actively pursue the use of novel materials and concepts in furniture and interior design. By providing insights into their processing behavior and suitability for 3D-printing processes, this research helps to highlight the potential of using waste materials to create more environmentally friendly and sustainable 3D-printing filaments that can be used in furniture and interior design. Furthermore, the study evaluates the effect of incorporating palm midrib nanoparticles (DPFNPs) to reinforce a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) matrix with different loadings such as 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 wt.%. The composites were extruded into filaments using a manual extruder, which was then utilized to fabricate 3D-printed specimens using a 3D-printing pen. The effect of adding DPFNPs on the composite's chemical, thermal, and mechanical properties was evaluated, with a particular focus on how these modifications influence the melt flow rate (MFR) and, subsequently, the material's printability. The results revealed that HDPE and filament composites presented similar FTIR spectra. On the other hand, the filament composites presented an increase in the thermal stability and a decrease in the mechanical strength with increasing DPFNP content in the HDPE matrix. The filaments were successfully printed using a 3D-printing pen. Thus, using DPFNPs in the HDPE matrix presents a low-cost alternative for filament production and may expand 3D-printing applications in interior and furniture design with more sustainable materials. Future work will delve into optimizing these composites for improved printability and assessing their recyclability, aiming to broaden their applications in 3D printing and beyond. The increased use of plastics in industrial and agricultural applications has led to high levels of pollution worldwide and is a significant challenge. To address this plastic pollution, conventional methods such as landfills and incineration are used, leading to further challenges such as the generation of greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, increasing interest has been directed to identifying alternative methods to dispose of plastic waste from agriculture. The novelty of the current research arose from the lack of critical reviews on how 3-Dimensional (3D) printing was adopted for recycling plastics, its application in the production of agricultural plastics, and its specific benefits, disadvantages, and limitations in recycling plastics. The review paper offers novel insights regarding the application of 3D printing methods including Fused Particle Fabrication (FPF), Hot Melt Extrusion (HME), and Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) to make filaments from plastics. However, the methods were adopted in local recycling setups where only small quantities of the raw materials were considered. Data was collected using a systematic review involving 39 studies. Findings showed that the application of the 3D printing methods led to the generation of agricultural plastics such as Polylactic Acid (PLA), Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), and High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), which were found to have properties comparable to those of virgin plastic, suggesting the viability of 3D printing in managing plastic pollution. However, limitations were also associated with the 3D printing methods; 3D-printed plastics deteriorated rapidly under Ultraviolet (UV) light and are non-biodegradable, posing further risks of plastic pollution. However, UV stabilization helps reduce plastic deterioration, thus increasing longevity and reducing disposal. The advancement of agricultural mesh technology has contributed to its improved properties. As a result, agricultural nets are widely adopted in large-scale farming applications, for example, in cereal crop farming. However, a consequence of this increased use of agricultural nets is the accumulation of large amounts of waste. The current paper focuses on the recycling of agricultural nets used in wrapping straw bales to develop additives and fillers in cement composites. The research details an analysis of the use of waste agricultural meshes as an ingredient in cement composites. Six test series of different mixtures were conducted. In the first four series, agricultural waste was utilised as an additive in a composite comprising aggregate and cement slurry (the amounts of wasted nets were 20, 40, 60, and 80 kg/m3). In the last test series, the recyclate utilised comprised a mixture of cement slurry and waste only. The composites were subjected to standard tests and thermal resistance tests. The results showcased that that the addition of a net worsened the workability of the concrete mixture, and with increasing amounts of addition, the consistency of the mixture could change from liquid to dense plastic. The flexural strength of the composite decreased with increasing amounts of recyclate. In subsequent test series, the flexural strength value was lower than that of the control (3.93 MPa), from 7.38% (3.64 MPa) for the composite with 20 kg/m3 of recyclate to 37.66% (2.45 MPa) for the composite with of 80 kg/m3 recyclate. The flexural strength value of the net-filled composite without aggregate was very high (10.44 MPa), where the value obtained for the control composite was 62.36% lower. The results of the compressive strength test showed a decrease in this parameter with increasing amounts of additive. The value assessed for the control composite was 27.99 MPa. As expected, the composite that had no aggregate and consisted of only recycled filler had the lowest compressive strength. The value of this parameter was 13.07 MPa, and it was 53.31% lower than that of the control composite. The results of the tests of resistance to temperatures were similar to those recorded for the composites with polypropylene fibres. All composites demonstrated a significant decrease in their compressive and flexural strength after annealing. SEM imaging showed that the net fibres were closely bonded to the cement stone. Finally, it was concluded that recyclates performed best as fillers in lightweight composites with a low density, low absorption, high flexural strength, and satisfactory compressive strength. Polymer materials and their composites are one of the most frequently used materials in the packaging and food industries. This applies to both disposable and reusable packaging, layered films with barrier properties, as well as densely overprinted polymer films and metallized food wrap films. According to statistical data from Plastics Europe, approximately 40% of processed thermoplastics are used to produce packaging, including single- and multi-layer film packaging. Growing requirements and new EU directives require the use of recycled materials in new products, which is not easy because the properties of recyclates may differ significantly from those of the primary materials with which the former are mixed. This work attempts to analyze the properties of the primary material used to produce a film using the casting method in comparison with the industrial recyclate obtained by the processing of film made of the primary material and then overprinted and metallized. The process of obtaining re-granulates and preparing test samples was presented, and the mechanical, structural, and thermal properties of the tested materials were compared. The conducted research and the obtained results demonstrated the advisability of conducting advanced mechanical recycling, which leads to obtaining re-granulates with repeatable processing properties and thermal and mechanical properties comparable to the original material despite the impurities they contain. Plants can be primed to withstand otherwise lethal heat stress (HS) through exposure to a preceding temporary and mild HS, commonly known as the 'thermopriming stimulus'. Plants have also evolved mechanisms to establish 'memories' of a previous stress encounter, or to reset their physiology to the original cellular state once the stress has ended. The priming stimulus triggers a widespread change of transcripts, proteins, and metabolites, which is crucial for maintaining the memory state but may not be required for growth and development under optimal conditions or may even be harmful. In such a scenario, recycling mechanisms such as autophagy are crucial for re-establishing cellular homeostasis and optimizing resource use for post-stress growth. While pivotal for eliminating heat-induced protein aggregates and protecting plants from the harmful impact of HS, recent evidence implies that autophagy also breaks down heat-induced protective macromolecules, including heat shock proteins, functioning as a resetting mechanism during the recovery from mild HS. This review provides an overview of the latest advances in understanding the multifaceted functions of autophagy in HS responses, with a specific emphasis on its roles in recovery from mild HS, and the modulation of HS memory. Solid‐state battery research has gained significant attention due to their inherent safety and high energy density. Silicon anodes have been promoted for their advantageous characteristics, including high volumetric capacity, low lithiation potential, high theoretical and specific gravimetric capacity, and the absence of lethal dendritic growth. Addressing concerns such as low conductivity, pulverization, fracture, dense solid electrolyte interface layer, and low coulombic efficiency has substantially improved the use of silicon electrodes in solid‐state batteries. Researchers have explored carbon additions, solid electrolyte suitability for Si anodes, pressure optimization, and particle size effects (nano/micro) to enhance energy density. Recent studies have investigated the conductivity mechanism, stack pressure, and anode‐solid electrolyte compatibility to improve energy density. Micro‐ and nano‐sized silicon have attracted attention in carbon‐based composites due to their exceptional conductivity, uniform distribution, efficient electron migration, and diffusion channels. The development of solid‐state batteries with high energy density, safety, and extended lifespan has been a major focus. Metal machining workshops generate a lot of metal chips, which pose both health and disposal challenges. Herein, for the first time, we demonstrate a novel process of reusing lathe-turning steel chips to manufacture high-compression strength Al alloy/steel composites. The process involves melting aluminium alloy onto the steel chips under vacuum and argon gas conditions. Clean and dried steel chips are packed inside a mould with a top layer of aluminium alloy pieces at three different quantity ratios of 80%Al/20% steel, 20%Al/80% steel and 50%Al/50% steel. The steel mould is then heated in a furnace at 650–700 °C until the aluminium metal melts. After a predetermined time of melting, argon gas is bubbled into the top layer (molten aluminium) of the mould while vacuum pumping is activated on the lower side of the mould (steel chips) for 5 min. The sample is allowed to cool within the mould. The composite containing 50%Al/50% steel has the highest mechanical properties with compression strength twice that of the other two samples. The microstructural observations revealed a good bonding between the steel chips and the Al alloy matrix. The study further presents the machinability of the samples, and it is seen that the composites behave like the aluminium matrix alloy during a turning operation and therefore do not require a special machining operation. It is shown that through this method, machining chips of steel can be recycled into high-compression strength metal–metal composites.
