Viruses are the causal agent of some of the most limiting diseases in Rubus crops. In this regard, a detailed knowledge of the Rubus virome is essential for successfully implementing mitigation strategies and assessing the risk of the emergence of novel viral diseases. Fortunately, the widespread use of RNA sequencing to characterize diverse aspects of the biology of Rubus species can also be a valuable source of data on viruses associated with these hosts. Here, we present a meta-analysis of the Rubus virome based on the re-examination of public RNAseq data from nine Rubus species and 23 hybrid cultivars worldwide. As a result, we identified 23 viruses and one viroid associated with the genus Rubus. Detected viruses are part of eleven families and 26 genera. We also provide evidence of a second species in the genus Brambyvirus, and a novel member of the family Virgaviridae. Our data also revealed raspberry bushy dwarf virus (RBDV) to be the most prevalent and generalist Rubus virus. With respect to the number of species, the genus Ilarvirus and the family Closteroviridae were the most diverse taxonomic ranks affecting Rubus. Network analysis revealed distinct Rubus viromes in different countries and analysis of coinfections revealed three main viral communities infecting these plant species across the world. The purpose of the study is to optimize the trophic and hormonal determination of raspberry reproduction in vitro and post-aseptic adaptation ex vitro. The research was carried out on the remontant raspberry variety Delniwa of Polish selection. Laboratory studies were carried out in the conditions of the Tevitta TM laboratory (Ltd "Agrofirm Blagodatne," Cherkasy region), and experiments were laid in four stages: introduction into aseptic culture, multiplication, induction of rhizogenesis, and post-aseptic adaptation, including photoautotrophic grafting. A medium for obtaining an aseptic culture and a media for multiplication have been selected. The rate of regeneration of explants of different origins, and the percentage of regenerants from them, was compared. The dynamics of the influence of cytokinin concentrations during long-term reproduction in vitro were revealed. Cultivation on a medium with a high content of benzylaminopurine and kinetin showed the effect of accumulation of phytotoxicity. The expediency of growing graft donors for grafting at low kinetin concentrations to improve the induction of rhizogenesis is substantiated. Regenerants from media with a predominance of auxins over cytokinins had a higher regeneration potential. According to indicators of suitability for survival, perlite substrates prevailed over peat ones; however, regenerants of a smaller height were formed on them. The symptoms and harmful effects of excessive watering on plants have been established. A biomethod of insect control using insectivorous plants of the genus Drosera has been developed. The rate of rhizogenesis in bioreactor conditions with humidified and carbon dioxide-enriched air significantly exceeded root formation in conventional moist chambers. The duration of growing an adapted and well-rooted seedling in a bioreactor was 21 days, compared to 30 or more days in the control version of the experiment. The plants did not lose turgor when planted in closed soil. Adapted regenerants are successfully used as a planting material and can be used in photoautotrophic microclonal propagation as donors of cuttings. Interest in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has been increasingly growing in recent years, especially for purposes other than those for which they were initially used (civil and military purposes). Currently, in fact, they are used for advanced monitoring and control purposes, for 3D reconstructions of the territory and cultural heritage, and for freight transport. The problem in using these systems consists of the limited flight autonomy. In fact, commercially used drones, today, are sold with a set of batteries of limited duration which do not allow flights over large areas and, therefore, detailed surveys. The present work seeks to overcome these limitations by proposing an intelligent automatic charging system (Intelligent Charging Network) created using PC Engines Alix and an experimental drone prototype using a Raspberry Pi 3 and a Navio 2 module. At the same time, an efficient Intelligent Charging Network–drone communication system and a data transmission system are proposed, which allow images acquired by the drone to be transferred directly to the server used for data storage for their subsequent processing as well as the transmission of the flight plan from the QGroundControl application to the drone. To determine the content of phenolcarboxylic acids using gas chromatography–mass spectrometer (GC–MS) in the obtained extract, conduct a study of the antimicrobial, antifungal, and antioxidant activities of Rubus idaeus shoot lipophilic extract. The quantification of phenolcarboxylic was accomplished through GC–MS, antioxidant activity was assessed by potentiometric method, antimicrobial and antifungal activities were determined by well method. The 8 compounds were identified by the GC–MS method. The vanillic acid (2.59 ± 0.08 mg/100 g), benzoic acid (1.51±0.08 mg/100 g), and ferulic acid (0.79±0.04 mg/100 g) dominated in the obtained lipophilic R. idaeus shoot extract. Bacillus subtilis (17.00 ± 0.50 mm) was the most sensitive to lipophilic extract, whereas Proteus vulgaris was the most resistant to the lipophilic extract. Moreover, Candida albicans was medium sensitive to lipophilic extract (13.50 ± 0.50 mm). The antioxidant activity was 1.00 mmol-equiv./mdry res; according to Maslov's antioxidant level classification it has low level. The lipophilic extract from R. idaeus shoots contains various phenolcarboxylic acids, including vanillic acid, benzoic acid, ferulic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, syringic acid, gentisic acid, salicylic acid, and phenylacetic acid, with the highest concentrations observed for vanillic, benzoic, and ferulic acids. This study highlights the antimicrobial and antifungal properties of the R. idaeus shoot lipophilic extract. However, the obtained lipophilic extract showed a relatively low level of antioxidant activity. Consequently, the derivatives of phenolcarboxylic acids play a substantial role in the antimicrobial and antifungal effects, whereas their contribution to antioxidant activity appears to be limited. The genus Rubus encompasses over 1000 species, including raspberries and blackberries, known for their rich nutritional and health-promoting properties. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the nutritional values, health benefits, and potential medical and pharmaceutical applications of Rubus species. The fruits, roots, shoots, and leaves of these plants are distinguished by their high content of polyphenols, vitamins, and minerals, which contribute to their potent anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-neurodegenerative, and anti-cancer effects. The diverse phytochemical profiles of the Rubus species support their use in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and certain cancers. Additionally, the Rubus species are valuable as pharmaceutical raw materials due to their bioactive compounds. Despite the focus on a few widely cultivated species, numerous wild and lesser-known Rubus species offer significant untapped potential as functional foods, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceuticals. Future research should explore the detailed mechanisms of their bioactivities, develop effective extraction and formulation techniques, and integrate these findings into public health strategies. The genus Rubus represents a promising resource for enhancing human health and nutrition, as well as for pharmaceutical and medical applications, justifying increased cultivation and utilization of species from this genus. Viruses infecting plants of the genus Rubus are among the pathogens that can cause significant economic losses to growers. As there is no effective treatment, it is necessary to plant healthy propagation material to prevent their spreading. To test plant material of the genus Rubus, real-time PCR-based multiplex detection systems have been developed for the diagnostics of known viruses: Black raspberry necrosis virus (BRNV), Raspberry ringspot virus (RpRSV), Raspberry bushy dwarf virus (RBDV), Strawberry latent ringspot virus (SLRSV), Rubus yellow net virus (RYNV); and the newly discovered Raspberry rubodvirus 1 (RaRV1) and Raspberry enamovirus 1 (RaEV1). The aim of the work was to verify the functionality of these systems on samples from living plants and to evaluate the presence of each virus in five categories corresponding to different origins of samples obtained in the Czech Republic. The results of the testing show that out of a total of 297 samples tested, 72 % of the plants were found to be infected with either a single virus or co-infected with multiple viruses. The most frequently occurring virus was RYNV, which was found in 51 % of the plants tested.

In this paper, phenolic compounds of raspberry from six producing areas (Guangdong, Guangxi, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Sichuan) were extracted by ethanol extraction method, and the phenolic compounds and their antidiabetic activities were compared and analyzed. The results showed that the content of polyphenol of raspberry from Guangdong was the highest (349.77 μg GAE/mg E), Zhejiang raspberry showed the highest total flavonoid content (202.55 μg QUE/mg E), while Sichuan raspberry showed the highest content of hydrolyzed tannin (125.07 mg GAE/g E). Thirty-four different phenolic compounds were identified from raspberry extracts, which were mainly ellagitannins, flavonoids and phenolic acids. Studies on antidiabetic activity showed that the DPPH· (IC50=63.069 μg/mL) and ABTS+· scavenging capacities (IC50=29.977 μg/mL) and the inhibitory effect on α-glycosidase (IC50=0.086 mg/mL) of raspberry extracts from Sichuan were higher than those from other regions, whereas Anhui raspberry extract showed the strongest inhibitory ability of AGEs (81.91%). In summary, raspberry from Sichuan is a high-quality source of anti-diabetes drugs.

The well-established anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of red fruits leave room for a biological pathway of improved muscle health promoted by berries in the diet. Our objective was to systematically review the number of trials conducted on human and animal species around the relationship between a berry diet and muscle health outcomes. Two independent examiners conducted a search for studies that utilized keywords associated with muscle health outcomes and a berry-based diet in both human and animal trials, in accordance with the PRISMA statement guidelines. The literature was searched through six electronic databases until December 2023. Screening of 152 retrieved articles resulted in a final selection of 16 reports investigating the effect of exposure to a berry-based diet and skeletal muscle health outcomes. The study protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42023479682). Among the selected studies, nine involved humans and seven animal models (rats and mice). Overall, most of the studies reported positive effects on performance or muscle health. Specifically, five studies investigated the possible effects of blackcurrant on active human subjects or athletes; three studies focused on blueberry and presented results on running performance (human sample) and muscle health (rat models). The rest of the studies involved raspberries (two studies, rat models), aronia (one study, rat models), elderberry (one study, rat models), and a mixed compound (one study, rat models). In conclusion, there is some early evidence that a berry-rich diet may increase performance or muscle health, but more research is needed to fully understand the underlying biological trajectories, and thus, no firm conclusions can yet be drawn. The production and marketing of fruits and vegetables is one of the most important economic activities for agricultural development in Mexico. The group of berries, including raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.), strawberry (Fragaria spp.), blackberry (Rubus ulmifolius Schott), and blueberry (Vaccinium spp.), has positioned Mexico among the main exporting countries of these products, where the value of exports has maintained a growing trend in recent decades. The index of revealed comparative advantage (VCR) identifies countries that have a competitive advantage over others in a given product and compares competitive trends in the same market. The objective of this study was to determine Mexico's competitive advantage in the production and export of berries under the hypothesis that there is a positive index of revealed comparative advantage in the export of berries. The VCR and the trade openness index were computed by examining the historical trends in berry production and its involvement in both domestic and international markets. The value and volume of berry production have increased significantly since 2010, which places Mexico among the three main producing countries. It is notable that the trade openness of the Mexican agricultural sector has increased during the period 2001-2019. In addition, a comparative advantage has been demonstrated in strawberry exports, which positions Mexico as one of the main exporters of this product and represents an important competitive position in world trade since berry exports exceed imported volumes. A novel negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus showing genetic similarity to viruses of the genus Rubodvirus has been found in raspberry plants in the Czech Republic and has tentatively been named raspberry rubodvirus 1 (RaRV1). Phylogenetic analysis confirmed its clustering within the group, albeit distantly related to other members. A screening of 679 plant and 168 arthropod samples from the Czech Republic and Norway revealed RaRV1 in 10 raspberry shrubs, one batch of Aphis idaei, and one individual of Orius minutus. Furthermore, a distinct isolate of this virus was found, sharing 95% amino acid identity in both the full nucleoprotein and partial sequence of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase gene sequences, meeting the species demarcation criteria. This discovery marks the first reported instance of a rubodvirus infecting raspberry plants. Although transmission experiments under experimental conditions were unsuccessful, positive detection of the virus in some insects suggests their potential role as vectors for the virus. Spotted-wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) (Diptera: Drosophilidae), is one of the most detrimental pests of small fruit crops worldwide and its control relies heavily on pesticides, so there is a need to develop alternative management practices. Cultural practices that make the microclimate hotter, drier, and brighter than optimal conditions for the pest may be highly effective. In this two-year study, we evaluated how black, white, and metallic plastic mulches influence the raspberry plants' microclimate to reduce D. suzukii larval infestation of fruit in the canopy and increase mortality of fallen larvae and pupae on the ground. All three plastic mulches reduced D. suzukii larval infestation of fruit by 40–72% and killed 80–100% of larvae and pupae placed on the mulch surface. The mechanisms at play are likely the compounded effects of increased ultraviolet (UV) light, hotter and drier conditions in the low canopy, and hot mulch surface temperature. UV light may be especially important since it reduced D. suzukii oviposition in the lab. Overall, plastic mulches can effectively modify the microclimate to make it less favorable for D. suzukii, reducing infestation in fruit and on the ground. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SARS-CoV-2 infects the oral mucosa and is shed in salivary fluids. Traditionally, tea has been used by various cultures to treat respiratory ailments. The objective of this study was to identify commercially available teas that can rapidly inactivate infectious SARS-CoV-2 in saliva. Initially, tea (n = 24) was prepared as 40 mg/mL infusions and incubated with SARS-CoV-2 resuspended in water, for 5 min at 37 °C. Then, five teas that showed >3 log reduction in virus infectivity were further investigated at 40 and 10 mg/mL infusions for 60 and 10 s contact time with SARS-CoV-2 resuspended in saliva. Tea polyphenols were measured using the Folin-Ciocalteu assay. SARS-CoV-2 infectivity was quantified on Vero-E6 cell line using TCID50 assay. At 10 mg/mL infusion, black tea showed the highest reduction (3 log, i.e., 99.9%) of infectious SARS-CoV-2 within 10 s. Green, mint medley, eucalyptus-mint, and raspberry zinger teas showed similar inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 (1.5–2 log, i.e., 96–99% reduction). At 40 mg/mL infusions, all five teas showed >3 log reduction in virus infectivity within 10 s. Tea polyphenol but not pH was significantly correlated to virus reduction. Time-of-addition assay revealed that the five teas displayed preventive effects (0.5–1 log, i.e., 68–90% reduction) against SARS-CoV-2 infection of Vero-E6 cells as well as during post-virus infection (1.2–1.9 log, i.e., 94–98%). However, the highest inhibitory effect was observed when the teas were added at the time of virus infection (2–3 log, i.e., 99–99.9%). Our results provide insights into a rapid at-home intervention (tea drinking or gargling) to reduce infectious SARS-CoV-2 load in the oral cavity which might also mitigate infection of the oral mucosa. Red berries have gained popularity as functional and nutritious food due to their health benefits, leading to increased consumer demand and higher production, totaling over 11,000 ktons for strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries combined in 2021.Nutritionally, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries present high levels of vitamin C (9.7-58.8 mg/100 g dry weight [dw]), folates (6-24 µg/100 g dw), and minerals (96-228 mg/100 g dw). Due to their perishable nature, producers have utilized alcoholic fermentation to extend their shelf life, not only increasing the lifespan of red berries but also attracting consumers through the production of novel beverages. Strawberry, blueberry, and raspberry wines possess low alcohol (5.5-11.1% v/v), high acidity (3.2-17.6 g/L), and interesting bioactive molecules such as phenolic compounds, carotenoids, polysaccharides, and melatonin. Distillation holds tremendous potential for reducing foodwaste by creating red berry spirits of exceptional quality. Although research on red berry spirits is still in the early stages, future studies should focus on their production and characterization. By incorporating these factors, the production chain would become more sustainable, profitable, and efficient by reducing foodwaste, capitalizing on consumer acceptance, and leveraging the natural health-promoting characteristics of these products. Therefore, this review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the characteristics of strawberry, blueberry, and red raspberry in berries, wines, and spirits, with a focus on their chemical composition and production methods. BackgroundIn recent years, the therapeutic effects of raspberry have been the subject of several randomized control trials (RCTs). However, there is no consensus about the effect of raspberry consumption on anthropometric indices and liver function tests. So, the present review aims to investigate this effectiveness by conducting a meta-analysis.MethodsPubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases were searched to identify eligible randomized control trials (RCTs) up to March 2024. The overall effect sizes were estimated using the random-effects model as weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).ResultsNine studies (10 arms) with 355 participants were eligible for inclusion in this review. This meta-analysis showed that raspberry consumption did not lead to significant changes in anthropometric indices (weight, body mass index, and waist circumference) and liver function tests (aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase).ConclusionThis review revealed that raspberry consumption had no significant impact on anthropometric indices or liver function tests. Raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) is a fruit of great interest due to its aroma, nutritional properties, and the presence of many bioactive compounds. However, differences among cultivation systems can affect its composition and, consequently, its potential bioactivity. Herein, for the first time, raspberries grown in an aeroponic system were investigated for their chemical profile and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, as well as their enzyme (α-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase) inhibitory properties in comparison to wild and conventionally cultivated fruits. High-performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detection (HPLC-DAD) analyses revealed the presence of gallic acid, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, rutin, and catechin in all the samples. The extracts exhibited in vitro anti-inflammatory activity (inhibition of nitric oxide production) regardless of the cultivation method. Of particular interest is the ability of raspberries to inhibit pancreatic lipase. With the exception of the β-carotene bleaching test, the raspberries grown in conventional and aeroponic systems were more active in terms of antioxidants than wild fruits, as evidenced by the ABTS (IC50 in the range 1.6–3.4 μg/mL), DPPH (IC50 in the range 8.9–28.3 μg/mL), and FRAP tests (24.6–44.9 μM Fe(II)/g). The raspberries from aeroponic cultivation were generally able to exert the same bioactivity as those obtained from both conventionally cultivated and wild fruits, supporting the consideration that in the future, this technology could reshape agriculture by mitigating resource constraints, fostering sustainable practices and increasing yields. The aim of the work was to investigate the effect of ultrasound application during juice pressing. The impact on pressing yield and extraction of bioactive compounds during production of juice from strawberry, blackcurrant and raspberry was evaluated. Juice pressing was carried out after four kinds of mash pretreatment. The tested objects were heated to 55 °C, treated by ultrasound, and/or macerated with an enzyme. The obtained juices were analyzed for the content of bioactive compounds and compared to the 'Control' sample, which was the juice pressed without any pretreatment. Although the results presented here do not conclusively show that enzymatic maceration can be completely replaced by the use of ultrasound, in the case of strawberry and raspberry fruit, juice yield after ultrasound treatment increased almost as much as after enzymatic maceration. Additionally, in the case of raspberry fruit, the antioxidant activity of the juice samples was definitely improved when ultrasound was used. The results from this experiment also showed that it is possible to separate the effect of temperature from the effect of mechanical and chemical actions in ultrasound treatment. Research into the effects of raspberry on blood pressure and lipid profiles is inconclusive. This meta‐analysis was aimed to determine whether raspberry has beneficial effects in clinical practice and to what extent these effects are associated with blood pressure and lipid profiles. A systematic literature search up to September 2023 was completed in PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science, to identify eligible RCTs. Heterogeneity tests of the selected trials were performed using the I2 statistic. Random effects models were evaluated based on the heterogeneity tests, and pooled data were determined as weighted mean differences with a 95% confidence interval. Eleven randomized controlled trials (with 13 arms) were eligible for this meta‐analysis. Our findings revealed that Raspberry consumption had no significant effects on the blood pressure and lipid profile markers, including systolic blood pressure (SBP) (WMD, −0.37 mm Hg; 95%CI: −2.19 to 1.44; p =.68), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (WMD, −2.14 mm Hg; 95%CI: −4.27 to 0.00; p =.05), total cholesterol (TC) (WMD, −6.83 mg/dL; 95%CI: −15.11 to 1.44; p =.10), triglycerides (TG) (WMD, −5.19 mg/dL: 95%CI: −11.76 to 1.37; p =.12), low‐density lipoprotein‐cholesterol (LDL‐C) (WMD, −5.19 mg/dL; 95%CI: −11.58 to 1.18; p =.11), and high‐density lipoprotein‐cholesterol (HDL‐C) (WMD, 0.82 mg/dL; 95%CI: −1.67 to 3.32; p =.51), compared to control groups. Subgroup analysis showed that raspberry consumption significantly decreased total cholesterol and LDL‐C levels in people with elevated TC levels, metabolic syndrome, and andropause symptoms, as well as those older than 35, while the consumption of raspberries led to a significant increase in HDL‐C levels in females, obese, under 35, and healthy individuals. Raspberry can improve lipid profile and blood pressure, but it is important to keep in mind that further research is necessary to fully understand the exact mechanism of action and a definite conclusion in this regard. Aerobic organisms including the gut microbiota have an essential antioxidant status, as a result of which these bacteria protect organisms from various pathologies and diseases. The goal of the given investigation is (1) the isolation and purification of the isoforms of endogenous О2−-producing associate from gastrointestinal bacteria (Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum); (2) determination of the effective concentrations of exogenous О2− produced by a complex of NADPH-containing protein component and Fe(III) (NPC-Fe(III)) from raspberries on the growth of the gastrointestinal bacteria in a nutrient medium in vitro. Ion-exchange chromatography on cellulose DE-52 and gel filtration on Sephadex G-100 at the pH of 9.5 was used to isolate and purify the NLP-Nox isoforms. Specific maximal optical absorption spectra of the Nox isoforms were observed in a weakly opalescent aqueous solution of the NLP-Nox isoforms. The specific contents of these NLP-Nox isoforms, as well as their composition, the stationary concentration of produced О2−, and the mechanism of О2− production were determined. The stimulating effect on the growth of these gastrointestinal bacteria in the nutrient medium of MRS broth and MRS agar in vitro under the influence of О2−, as a product of a new thermostable and acid-stable complex NPC-Fe(III) was determined. The NPC-Fe(III) complex, from raspberries was determined as well. Thus, for the first time, the isolation and purification of О2−- producing thermostable NADPH-containing lipoprotein–NADPH oxidase (NLP-Nox) associate from gastrointestinal bacteria membranes (continuously producing О2− under the aerobic conditions), and the stimulation of these bacteria growth by О2− formed by the complex from raspberries were demonstrated. Industry has undergone, during this decade, significant technological changes and improvements. The industrial sector is further moving towards IIoT (Industrial IoT) and Industry 4.0. Security and data reliability are IoT limitations that can be overcome using the Blockchain technology. In this work, the integration of blockchain in Industry 4.0 is presented. We develop a new platform based on artificial intelligence and smart contracts to monitor and track water consumption in Tunisia. A secure multiservice solution for water management is proposed. Water service providers and customers will be able to benefit from such services as consumption monitoring, traceability, security, water leak detection, visualization of water consumption and drinking water coverage. Researchers are paying increasing attention to the development of low-cost and microcontroller-based accelerometers, in order to make structural health monitoring feasible for conventional bridges with limited monitoring budget. Parallel with the low-cost sensor development, the use of the embedded accelerometers of smartphones for eigenfrequency analysis of bridges is becoming popular in the civil engineering literature. This paper, for the first time in the literature, studies these two promising technologies by comparing the noise density and eigenfrequency analysis of a self-developed, validated and calibrated low-cost Internet of things based accelerometer LARA (low cost adaptable reliable accelerometer) with those of a state of the art smartphone (iPhone XR). The eigenfrequency analysis of a footbridge in San Sebastian, Spain, showed that the embedded accelerometer of the iPhone XR can measure the natural frequencies of the under study bridge. To analyse agrivoltaics systems and understand crop responses to shading, measurements of available light for the crop and light interception by the crop are important. Especially in row crops, there is a lot of variation in the amount of light at different heights, different positions relative to the row and over time. This spatial and temporal variation in light is difficult to capture with standard point measurement technology. Commercially available line quantum sensors are not long enough to cover the desired width within an agrivoltaics system and come at high cost. Therefore, custom made PARbars were used: bars of 1.5 m long having light sensors every 5 cm facing the sky and giving a total (line) irradiance value per time step. PARbars were installed above and below a raspberry crop row in both the agrivoltaics system and the control with a plastic foil cover, and a point sensor was installed in the open field. The difference between open field radiation and the top PARbar gives the light interception by the panel construction or the foil cover, the difference between the top and bottom PARbar gives the light interception by the crop. This information can be used in conjunction with destructive crop measurements to analyse impacts on leaf area and light interception, dry matter production and derived efficiency of photosynthesis. The crop in the current agrivoltaics system received half of the amount of light compared to the control system, but total biomass production was less reduced because of compensation by increasing specific leaf area and photosynthesis efficiency. Further analysis is needed to evaluate the agrivoltaics system and the impact of increasing shade on the crop, and to assess the trade-off between electricity production and crop production.

Fruit wines are products obtained after the processing of fruit crops which are not grapes. Water and alcohol are the most abundant constituents of fruit wines, along with biologically active compounds which are present in small amounts. Taken together, they significantly affect the physicochemical quality parameters. Before market placement, it is important to determine the physicochemical quality parameters of fruit wines. This study deals with the determination of physicochemical quality parameters in blackberry and sour cherry fruit wines produced in Serbia. The total content of acids determined by titration was in the interval from 7.37 to 9.05 g/L express to mallic acid. The pH values were from 2.75 to 3.57. The content of free SO2 is important to prevent spoilage induced by microorganisms, and it was in the range from 12.52 to 15.21 mg/L. The ethanol content of samples was in the interval from 6.87 to 13.57 % v/v. The obtained values for ethanol content were in accordance with the initial content of sugar in vinification, which was in the range from 13.8 to 24.2 ° Brix. Total phenolic content of fruit wines was from 1895.77 to 2417.21 mg/L expressed as gallic acid equivalents. All the investigated physicochemical parameters of the analyzed fruit wines, except ethanol content, were in line with the National Regulations for Quality and Other Demands for Grape Wine (National Regulations). The obtained results indicate the quality of fruit and demonstrate that all the procedures applied during wine production were conducted properly to obtain a quality final product. Ethanol content was below the minimal limit in 5 of 11 analyzed samples according to the National Regulations. This can be explained by the fact that every fruit has a different composition of natural constituents, which is a crucial reason to adopt specific regulations related to quality and other requirements for fruit wines.

Rubus sikkimensis Hook. f. is an endemic species of eastern Himalaya, described from Sikkim by J. D. Hooker in 1849. Since then, the species was never collected from India until its rediscovery from Sikkim in 2019 after a gap of 170 years. Another collection from Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, India, made by the author in 2021, is reported here as a new distributional record. A detailed description of the species with lectotype designation, photographs, and comparison with allied species are provided to facilitate its easy identification.

This study intends to create a Face Recognition system for a Socially Assistive Robot (SAR) created especially for autistic youngsters. Autism is a developmental disease that has varied degrees of impact on social interaction, speech, and behavior. In order to address the developmental deficits in autistic children, early intervention is essential. Children with autism require the right kind of therapy to help them manage their anxiety, develop their social skills, and sharpen their concentration. In this study, Multi-task Cascaded Multi-task Cascaded Convolutional Neural Network(MTCNN) facial recognition technology is used to classify and identify the emotions of autistic children. The technology has the ability to record and recognize children's faces, gauge a child's level of autism, categorize their emotions, and offer the proper support. Previous studies have indicated that it is possible to identify children with autism through their facial expressions. It is anticipated that by using Face Recognition technology on a SAR, autistic youngsters will make progress in their treatment and will feel better emotionally and be more motivated. This research serves as a foundational step in the creation of technologies that can improve the quality of life for kids with autism.

The genus Rubus encompasses over 1000 species, including raspberries and blackberries, known for their rich nutritional and health-promoting properties. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the nutritional values, health benefits, and potential medical and pharmaceutical applications of Rubus species. The fruits, roots, shoots, and leaves of these plants are distinguished by their high content of polyphenols, vitamins, and minerals, which contribute to their potent anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-neurodegenerative, and anti-cancer effects. The diverse phytochemical profiles of the Rubus species support their use in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and certain cancers. Additionally, the Rubus species are valuable as pharmaceutical raw materials due to their bioactive compounds. Despite the focus on a few widely cultivated species, numerous wild and lesser-known Rubus species offer significant untapped potential as functional foods, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceuticals. Future research should explore the detailed mechanisms of their bioactivities, develop effective extraction and formulation techniques, and integrate these findings into public health strategies. The genus Rubus represents a promising resource for enhancing human health and nutrition, as well as for pharmaceutical and medical applications, justifying increased cultivation and utilization of species from this genus.

The high susceptibility of raspberries to softening restricts the development of the raspberry industry. The primary causes of fruit softening are the breakdown of components linked to the cell wall and the destruction of the cell wall structure itself. Polygalacturonase (PG), a key enzyme that catalyzes pectin degradation, plays a critical role in fruit softening. However, there are currently limited studies on the mechanism of PG genes in raspberry fruit softening. In this study, a PG gene, RiPG2, was isolated from raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.). 'Polka' fruits and tomato plants overexpressing RiPG2 were obtained by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated leaf disc transformation to elucidate the role of RiPG2 in fruit softening. The total length of the RiPG2 gene is 1185 bp, and the gene encodes a total of 394 amino acids. The GFP fusion protein was expressed at the chloroplast under laser confocal microscopy, indicating that the RiPG2 protein is localized to the chloroplasts. Phenotypic analysis revealed that the fruit firmness of three strains was considerably less than that of controls, but PG enzyme activity was increased. Overexpression of RiPG2 altered the content of cell wall components, with an increase in water-soluble pectin (WSP) and ion-bound pectin (ISP) but a decrease in protopectin, cellulose, hemicellulose, and covalently bound pectin (CSP). In addition, RiPG2 positively regulated the expression of cell wall metabolism-related genes such as SlEXP1, SlTBG4, SlXTH5, and SlPL. These results suggest that the RiPG2 gene regulates the structure and composition of the cell wall and acts synergistically with other cell wall metabolism-related genes to promote fruit softening. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of the enzymatic process of clarification, filtration, and pasteurization on the retention of ellagitannins in raspberry juices. Experiments were carried out to determine the influence of the enzymatic clarification and filtration of cloudy juice and the pasteurization of clear juice on the content of ellagitannins and anthocyanins typical for raspberry fruits, namely lambertianin C, sanguiin H-6, cyanidin-3-sophoroside, and cyanidin-3-rutinoside, in the final product. Enzymatic treatment was performed using the Rohapect 10L enzyme at the manufacturer's recommended dose of 80 mg/L for 1 h at 45 °C. The process of cloudy juice filtration was carried out immediately after enzymatic treatment on a Hobrafilt type S40N filter medium enabling the retention of 5 μm particles. Due to the high retention of the main ellagitannins on the filtration barrier, the pasteurization process was carried out on juices fortified with the tested compounds. Pasteurization was carried out in four variants, using temperatures of 65 and 85 °C and pasteurization times of 20 and 60 s. The studies showed that the process of enzymatic clarification (1 h, 45 °C) did not significantly affect the content of ellagitannins or anthocyanins. The critical factor determining the content of the tested compounds was the filtration stage, which caused 100% retention of lambertianin C and 82% retention of sanguiin H-6 on the filtration barrier, as manifested by the low content of these substances in the filtered juice. The filtration process did not affect the content of anthocyanins. In addition, it was shown that regardless of the pasteurization conditions used, this process did not significantly affect the contents of lambertianin C, sanguiin H-6, or the tested anthocyanins. The aim of the study was to determine the content of fatty acids using GC-MS in the obtained extract, conduct a study of the antimicrobial, antifungal and antioxidant activities of Rubus idaeus shoot lipophilic extract. The quantification of fatty acids was accomplished through GC-MS, antioxidant activity was assessed by potentiometric method, antimicrobial and antifungal activity was determined by well method. The 18 compounds were identified by the GS-MS. The levulenic acid (64.47±0.08 mg/100 g), linoleic acid (8.50±0.08 mg/100 g) and linolenic acid (6.80±0.04 mg/100 g) dominated in the obtained lipophilic R. idaeus shoot extract. Bacillus subtilis (17.00±0.50 mm) was the most sensitive to lipophilic extract whereas P. vulgaris was the most resistant to the lipophilic extract. Moreover, Candida albicans was medium sensitive to lipophilic extract (13.50±0.50 mm). The antioxidant activity was 1.00 mmolequiv./mdry res, according to Maslov`s antioxidant level classification it has low level. The extract exhibited antimicrobial activity against all tested strains, with the most significant impact observed against B. subtilis. However, the obtained lipophilic extract showed a relatively low level of antioxidant activity. Consequently, the derivatives of fatty acids play a substantial role in the antimicrobial and antifungal effects, whereas their contribution to antioxidant activity appears to be limited. Raspberry plants, valued for their fruits, are vulnerable to a range of viruses that adversely affect their yield and quality. Utilizing high-throughput sequencing (HTS), we identified a novel virus, tentatively named raspberry enamovirus 1 (RaEV1), in three distinct raspberry plants. This study provides a comprehensive characterization of RaEV1, focusing on its genomic structure, phylogeny, and possible transmission routes. Analysis of nearly complete genomes from 14 RaEV1 isolates highlighted regions of variance, particularly marked by indel events. The evidence from phylogenetic and sequence analyses supports the classification of RaEV1 as a distinct species within the Enamovirus genus. Among the 289 plant and 168 invertebrate samples analyzed, RaEV1 was detected in 10.4% and 0.4%, respectively. Most detections occurred in plants that were also infected with other common raspberry viruses. The virus was present in both commercial and wild raspberries, indicating the potential of wild plants to act as viral reservoirs. Experiments involving aphids as potential vectors demonstrated their ability to acquire RaEV1 but not to successfully transmit it to plants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Red raspberry is an economically important horticultural crop that is known for its fruit's sweet flavour and nutritional value. A reliable and economic genotyping platform is needed to facilitate clonal/variety identification. Previous attempts for clonal identification utilized morphological traits or low‐throughput, difficult to score dinucleotide‐containing simple sequence repeat molecular markers. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), despite having lower allelic diversity, are numerous across the genome and more easily converted to high‐throughput assays restoring differential power. In this study, we use the kompetitive allele‐specific PCR (KASP™) chemistry, an affordable and high‐throughput platform, to develop a panel of SNPs to distinguish a diverse collection of red raspberry accessions for clonal identification. The panel consists of 48 KASP assays that show high concordance with whole genome sequencing, allelic balance, and recovery rate and a minimal set of 24 assays that distinguished the same accessions differentiated by the larger panel. The aim of this study was to reveal the mechanism of its wound healing function at the molecular level using transcriptome sequencing technology. The results showed that EAE mainly upregulated Cyclin A gene through AMPK signalling pathway, activated cell cycle pathway, promoted DNA synthesis, accelerated mitosis, and thus promoted the proliferation of Human immortalized keratinocytes (HaCaT) cells. In addition, analysis of downregulated gene enrichment revealed that these genes were significantly or very significantly enriched not only in the cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction pathway but also in the TNF and the NF-κB signalling inflammatory classical pathway. It was mainly through downregulation of genes such as Fn14, CCL2, CCL5, CARD14 and LTB that prevented inflammatory responses while delaying apoptosis. The results of this study provided important information for the molecular mechanism of wound healing of EAE and provided a basis for further development of functional products of raspberry. Raspberry fruits are an important source of many biologically active chemical compounds exerting nutritional and pro-health effects. The study presents a comparative analysis of nutritionally important bioactive chemical compounds—polyphenols; flavonoids, including anthocyanins; vitamin C; amino acids; fatty acids; and primary metabolites—contained in the fruits of three biennial fruiting cultivars, R. idaeus 'Glen Ample', 'Laszka', and 'Radziejowa', i.e., common cultivars in Poland and Europe. The antioxidant activity of fresh fruits and juice was determined with five methods. The analyses revealed the strong free radical scavenging potential of the fruits and juice, confirmed by the high concentration of nutrients, e.g., polyphenols, anthocyanins, vitamin C, amino acids, and fatty acids. The antioxidant activity of the juice determined with the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and OH radical methods was from 2.5 to 4.0 times higher than that of the fruits. The following orders of total polyphenol contents were established in the analyzed cultivars: 'Glen Ample' < 'Laszka' < 'Radziejowa' in the fruits and 'Glen Ample' < 'Radziejowa' < 'Laszka' in the juice. The highest antioxidant activity was exhibited by the 'Radziejowa' fruits. Given their high content of dietary fiber, the fruits of the analyzed raspberry cultivars can be consumed by dieting subjects. The concentrations of vitamin C (28–34 mg/100 g) and anthocyanins (20–34 mg/100 g) indicate the biological and pharmacological activity of these fruits. The main unsaturated fatty acids in the fruits were gamma-linoleic acid (C18:2n6c) and alpha-linolenic acid (C18:3n3), which neutralize excess free radicals. The amino acids nutritionally essential to humans were dominated by leucine, arginine, and phenylalanine. This is the first comparative analysis of the antioxidant activity of fruits and juice and the contents of selected active compounds in the fruits of biennial fruiting cultivars of R. idaeus, i.e., a highly commercialized crop in Europe. This article proposes and introduces a smart parking system using RFID technology incorporating a Deep Learning model to identify license plates. It tries to simulate the ability of the brain to recognize, differentiate and learn patterns from data. The employed algorithms are mainly based on neural network models where neurons are organized in stacked layers. The system is designed to manage incoming and outgoing vehicles by collecting and processing images and data on passenger information to update parking status with the news of empty lots. Another function of the parking system also designed is a fully automatic method of paying the parking fee by the user. The deep learning model for the smart parking system is implemented using the Raspberry PI 3 embedded system and sensors. Experimental results with the plate identification rate in the worst condition, up to 80%, have proven the reliability of the proposed smart parking system. Raspberry bushy dwarf virus (RBDV), recently renamed to Idaeovirus rubi, is one of the most common viruses infecting Rubus species worldwide but there is still a limited number of genome sequences available in the GenBank database and the majority of the sequences include partial sequences of RNA‐1 and RNA‐2. The distribution and incidence of RBDV in main raspberry and blackberry growing provinces in Turkey were monitored during 2015–2019 and 537 Rubus spp. samples were tested by both DAS‐ELISA and RT‐PCR. Among the tested samples, 36 samples tested positive for RBDV by DAS‐ELISA and 67 samples by RT‐PCR. There was relatively low nucleotide diversity among the Turkish isolates. Turkish isolates shared 93%–97.7%, 84.3%–98.9%, and 85%–99.2% nucleotide sequence identities with available sequences in the GenBank, in partial RNA‐1, movement protein (MP) and coat protein (CP) genes, respectively. In the phylogenetic tree constructed for RNA‐1, MP, and CP sequences, all Turkish raspberry isolates were clustered in a distinct clade. However, the blackberry isolates showed considerable variation in nucleotide sequences and were placed in three distinct groups. The divergent blackberry isolates showed high variability in MP (84.5%–89.3%) and CP (85.5%–89.7%) regions and were placed in a distinct group. The rest of blackberry isolates clustered together with sweet cherry RBDV isolates adjacent to the grapevine clade or together with raspberry isolates. The comparative analysis conducted on three RNA segments of RBDV highlighted the high sequence diversity of Turkish RBDV isolates. This study also emphasizes the importance of regular monitoring of RBDV infections in Turkey, with special regard to those Rubus spp. and grapevine accessions employed in conservation and selection programmes. In particular, the presence of new RBDV genetic variants and infection of Rubus species must be taken into account to choose a correct detection protocol and management strategy. A novel negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus showing genetic similarity to viruses of the genus Rubodvirus has been found in raspberry plants in the Czech Republic and has tentatively been named raspberry rubodvirus 1 (RaRV1). Phylogenetic analysis confirmed its clustering within the group, albeit distantly related to other members. A screening of 679 plant and 168 arthropod samples from the Czech Republic and Norway revealed RaRV1 in 10 raspberry shrubs, one batch of Aphis idaei, and one individual of Orius minutus. Furthermore, a distinct isolate of this virus was found, sharing 95% amino acid identity in both the full nucleoprotein and partial sequence of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase gene sequences, meeting the species demarcation criteria. This discovery marks the first reported instance of a rubodvirus infecting raspberry plants. Although transmission experiments under experimental conditions were unsuccessful, positive detection of the virus in some insects suggests their potential role as vectors for the virus.

The well-established anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of red fruits leave room for a biological pathway of improved muscle health promoted by berries in the diet. Our objective was to systematically review the number of trials conducted on human and animal species around the relationship between a berry diet and muscle health outcomes. Two independent examiners conducted a search for studies that utilized keywords associated with muscle health outcomes and a berry-based diet in both human and animal trials, in accordance with the PRISMA statement guidelines. The literature was searched through six electronic databases until December 2023. Screening of 152 retrieved articles resulted in a final selection of 16 reports investigating the effect of exposure to a berry-based diet and skeletal muscle health outcomes. The study protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42023479682). Among the selected studies, nine involved humans and seven animal models (rats and mice). Overall, most of the studies reported positive effects on performance or muscle health. Specifically, five studies investigated the possible effects of blackcurrant on active human subjects or athletes; three studies focused on blueberry and presented results on running performance (human sample) and muscle health (rat models). The rest of the studies involved raspberries (two studies, rat models), aronia (one study, rat models), elderberry (one study, rat models), and a mixed compound (one study, rat models). In conclusion, there is some early evidence that a berry-rich diet may increase performance or muscle health, but more research is needed to fully understand the underlying biological trajectories, and thus, no firm conclusions can yet be drawn.

(Background) Raspberry (R. idaeus L.) is very popular with consumers around the world for its intense flavor, attractive appearance, and health benefits. In recent years, interest in healthy eating and natural products has increased, and raspberry fits perfectly into these trends, which translates into its greater importance on the consumer market. (Aim) The aim of this study was the commodity evaluation of raspberry fruits bearing fruit on 2-year-old shoots, cultivated under conditions of varied nitrogen fertilization against the background of constant phosphorus-potassium fertilization. (Methodology) The first-order factors were cultivars (‘Laszka’ and ‘Glen Ample’), and the second-order factor was nitrogen fertilization (0, 50, 100, and 150 kg N ha−1), against the background of constant phosphorus-potassium fertilization (100 kg P2O5 and 120 kg K2O ha−1). The experiment was set up in a dependent split-plot design with three repetitions. (Results) The importance of raspberry on the consumer market was shaped by taste and quality of fruit, health benefits, naturalness and freshness, universality of use, availability, and nutritional trends. (Conclusions) The tested cultivars were characterized by similar production and quality capabilities. Fertilization of the tested cultivars with a dose of 135 kg N·ha−1 turned out to be justified in terms of yield. Increasing nitrogen doses resulted in a significant increase in fresh fruit yield and fruit weight. Different doses of nitrogen increased fruit resistance to mechanical damage, firmness, and quality indices.

Raspberry (Rubus corchorifolius L. f.) is easy to be infected by pathogens after harvesting. The species of pathogens are not only related to the fruit species, but also related to the cultivation environment. In this study, the main pathogens of post-harvest raspberry were isolated and identified from three different producing areas of raspberry in Taiyuan, Yangquan and Changzhi of Shanxi Province and their biological characteristics were studied. The pathogens were isolated and purified to determine their species by combining morphological and molecular biological characteristics, so as to determine the spore production of pathogens in the same period and their growth under different conditions. The results indicated that Trichoderma koningiopsis, Penicillium crustosum, Botrytis sp. and Rhizopus arrhizus were the main pathogens infecting post-harvest raspberry in the three regions. Penicillium crustosum had the highest spore production capacity, followed by Botrytis sp. and Rhizopus arrhizus. The optimum pH for the growth of four pathogens was 7, with Penicillium crustosum growing the fastest. Botrytis sp. and Penicillium crustosum presented faster growing during storage at 0, 4 and 10 ℃, while Trichoderma koningiopsis and Rhizopus arrhizus grew slower at 0 and 4 ℃.

Raspberry fruits (Rubus idaeus L.) have been reported to contain phenolic compounds, of which anthocyanins are the most abundant. A novel procedure of ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) using deep eutectic solvent (DES) for efficient extraction phenolic compounds and anthocyanins from raspberries is considered. Namely, the green approach for optimization by response surface methodology (RSM) based on Box-Behnken Design (BBD) was proposed in this study. Three carboxylic acid-based DES, like acetic acid/glucose (DESAAGLU), formic acid/glucose (DESFAGLU), and lactic acid/maltose (DESLAMA), were tested for their efficiency in the recovery of phenolic compounds and anthocyanins from raspberries. The optimum extraction parameters were obtained; extraction time of 60 min, a solvent volume of 35 mL, and added water on DES of 30 mL (v/v). The results of this study indicated that optimizing extraction conditions are critical for quantifying phenolic compounds and anthocyanins. The present model can contribute to finding a cheap way of delivering natural bioactive compounds in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industriesas well as a natural food colorant in dietary applications with potential health benefits.

The contents of ellagic acid and kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside, the chief active components of raspberry, are considered the quality control indices of raspberry. This work employed the ant colony neural network (ACO-BPNN) to optimize their extraction processes, and the combination of network pharmacology and molecular docking technology to unveil the potential pharmacological effects of these components. Based on the single-factor test (ultrasonic time, ethanol concentration, ultrasonic temperature, and solid-liquid ratio), a factorial experiment with 4-factors and 3-levels was conducted in parallel for 3 times. The multi-factor analysis of variance results revealed high-order interactions among the factors. Then, the ACO-BPNN model was established to characterize the complex relationship of experimental data. After further verification, relative errors were all less than 8 %, implying the model's effectiveness and reliability. Moreover, with the network pharmacology, 66 key targets were screened out and mainly concentrated in PI3K-AKT, MAPK, and Ras signal pathways. Molecular docking revealed the binding sites between active components and key targets.

In addition to their roles in thrombosis, hyperactive platelets contribute to atherosclerosis. Since anti-platelet drugs are not recommended for the vulnerable population with hyperactive platelets to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, a search is on to find alternative dietary antiplatelets that can be safely used. We here describe that in a dose-dependent manner, sugar-free extracts of tamarillo, horned melon (kiwano), and raspberry inhibited ADP-induced platelet aggregation in platelet-rich plasma, whereas pear extract had no effects. Furthermore, analysis of untargeted metabolites revealed the presence of platelet inhibitory components such as benzoic acid, caffeic acid, and gallic acid in the sugar-free extracts of tamarillo, raspberry, and kiwano but absent in pear extract. All these three fruit extracts inhibited the platelet production of TxB2 and the release of platelet factor 4. Our work suggests that these fruits inhibit platelet aggregation partly due to anti-platelet compounds such as benzoic, caffeic, and gallic acids.
