"Project Success Criteria" are dependent variables and inputs to project management practice that evaluate how successfully a project will end. This research aims to explore the main success criteria for the major architectural projects in Iraq. Qualitative and quantitative approaches had been adopted through interviews and designed questionnaires directed to clients, consultants, and contractors who were involved in the design and construction of major architectural projects in Iraq. The research findings show that achieving the strategic objectives of the project and organization was the top success criterion element, besides, the "Iron Triangle" factors which are "Time, Cost, and Quality" are found still effective in Iraqi major projects' assessment criteria. The essential success elements could have beneficial results in one place while not influencing another. At various stages of the "Project life cycle", multiple success criteria might be evaluated. Mixed methods research has become an important approach to research worldwide. The combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods has made it possible for a deeper and broader understanding of multifaceted phenomena, thereby offering readers more confidence in research findings and conclusions. The use of mixed method designs became more established in the 1980s and early 1990s, but some controversies surrounding the approach remain. Nonetheless, experts in the field of mixed methods research have continued to work on the central premise that the use of qualitative and quantitative approaches, in combination, provides a better understanding of research problems than either approach alone. This concept paper discusses some of the known controversies around mixed methods with the aim of providing useful insights to emerging researchers interested in learning the methodology. After the Ministerial Decree no. 1444/1968, which introduced town planning standards, the need to update the set of rules that determine the development of public spaces was periodically questioned. As early as 41 years ago, regional urban planning laws began to introduce specifications to Ministerial Decree 1444. In particular, having to decide how to waive urban standard areas, the Regions introduced a method for monetisation. This issue, although a limited part of a wider and more complex discussion on the renewal and coordination of national urban planning regulations, has a number of critical issues and theoretical-operational opportunities that are worth dwelling on. Starting from a comparative analysis of Italian regional regulations and from numerous examples of application in municipalities, this paper focuses mainly on the method of calculating monetisations and discusses an innovative case study that has included in the calculation also a principle of equal distribution of services based on the lack or presence of urban standards in the districts of the General Development Plan (PRGC). Spatial information tools have been used with the aim of better understanding the distribution of data on urban standards in the places where they have been or will be developed. The proposed calculation method could enable the public decision-maker to use monetisations without too much discretion and in a more conscious way than the simple calculation of the real estate value of the land that is now widely used in Italy.

The essay contains an interview to Gerlinde Mautner (WU − Vienna University) and Alan Partington (University of Bologna) given during the 2016 Critical Approaches to Discourse Analysis Across Disciplines (CADAAD) International Conference. The aim of the contribution is to critically discuss contemporary issues linked to the qualitative and quantitative approaches divide in linguistic research. These two notions are strickly connected and related to the broader category of the social imaginary since they are both a construct but also help shape academic research. Therefore, the following interview will tackle these issues in linguistic research and raise several questions concerning what both Corpus Linguistics and Discourse Analysis are but also about the nature of language analysis itself and, more specifically, the role of quantitative and qualitative analyses in linguistics.

9. Know thy tools! Limits of popular algorithms used for topic reconstruction

To reconstruct topics in bibliometric networks, one must use algorithms. Specifically, researchers often apply algorithms from the class of network community detection algorithms (such as the Louvain algorithm) that are general-purpose algorithms not intentionally programmed for a bibliometric task. Each algorithm has specific properties “inscribed,” which distinguish it from the others. It can thus be assumed that different algorithms are more or less suitable for a given bibliometric task. However, the suitability of a specific algorithm when it is applied for topic reconstruction is rarely reflected upon. Why choose this algorithm and not another? In this study, I assess the suitability of four community detection algorithms for topic reconstruction, by first deriving the properties of the phenomenon to be reconstructed—topics—and comparing if these match with the properties of the algorithms. The results suggest that the previous use of these algorithms for bibliometric purposes cannot be justified by their specific suitability for this task.

As one of the countries with the largest Muslim population in the world (87.18%), Indonesia has the potential to become the center of the world's halal industry. Halal certification can increase the competitiveness of MSME products, especially related to product guarantees to provide comfort, security, safety, and certainty of the availability of halal products for the public in consuming and using the product. The purpose of this study is to analyze the problems and solutions for food and beverage SMEs (Ekraf) related to the Halal Certification Process and Perceptions of Halal Certification Costs with the Actor's Intention to obtain a halal certificate. The research method uses qualitative and quantitative approaches by using primary and secondary data. The qualitative approach was carried out through FGD, webinars and participant observation with key informants and supporting informants. The quantitative approach is carried out by distributing questionnaires to 100 business actors and then processing the Pearson Product Moment correlation data. The results of the study show (i) the halal certification process (by assisting) has a very strong correlation with the perpetrator's intention and is significant, (ii) the perception of the cost of halal certification (with the cost of halal certification that gets subsidized) has a strong correlation with the perpetrator's intention and is significant, ( iii) The Halal Certification Process has a strong correlation with the perpetrators' perceived Halal Certification Costs and is significant, (iv) The Halal certification process and the perceived cost of Halal certification with the perpetrator's intention are very strong and significant. The halal certification process and the perception of the cost of halal certification, both individually and jointly, are correlated with the intentions of food and beverage creative economy actors (MSMEs). In order to achieve this goal, the synergy between central and regional stakeholders and related parties is needed.

In this article, we propose a discussion around methodological approaches, which can be used in research procedures aimed at textual-discursive studies. The interdisciplinary nature of textual-discursive studies leads to challenges with regard to theoretical, epistemological and methodological selections, especially when considering social cognition and interaction as inseparable from production, construction and textual-discursive processing. In relation to methodological procedures, research that turns to text-discourse, as is the case with Textual Linguistics, in most cases, has been selecting the qualitative approach in the analysis of linguistic data. We believe, however, that the treatment to be given to corpora can also be situated in a procedure of "integrative character", "multimethod" (TREZ, 2012), in which the qualitative and quantitative approaches are interrelated according to the investigative purposes, establishing a continuum (quali-quanti) as Marcuschi (2001) has already indicated. In this direction, we discussed about this mixed approach and how it has been adopted in some text-discourse research in the media field. We observed that the approaches complement each other and have specific referrals and roles, related to research interests. Furthermore, we identified that the qualitative analysis of the quantitative results occurs in all the studies examined. Neste artigo, propomos uma discussão em torno das abordagens metodológicas, passíveis de serem utilizadas nos procedimentos de pesquisa voltados aos estudos textual-discursivos. O caráter interdisciplinar dos estudos textual-discursivos conduz a desafios no que diz respeito às seleções teóricas, epistemológicas e metodológicas, principalmente quando se considera a cognição social e a interação como indissociáveis da produção, da construção e do processamento textual-discursivo. Em relação aos procedimentos metodológicos, pesquisas que se voltam para o texto-discurso, como é o caso da Linguística Textual, em boa parte das vezes, vêm selecionando a abordagem qualitativa nas análises de dados linguísticos. Acreditamos, entretanto, que o tratamento a ser dado aos corpora também possa se situar em um procedimento de “caráter integrativo”, “multimétodo” (TREZ, 2012), em que as abordagens qualitativa e quantitativa estejam inter-relacionadas conforme as finalidades investigativas, estabelecendo um continuum (quali-quanti) assim como Marcuschi (2001) já indicara. Nessa direção, discutimos acerca dessa abordagem mista e como ela vem sendo adotada em algumas pesquisas de texto-discurso do campo midiático. Observamos que as abordagens complementam-se e possuem encaminhamentos e papéis específicos, relacionados aos interesses de pesquisa. Além do mais, identificamos que a análise qualitativa dos resultados quantitativos ocorre em todos os trabalhos examinados.

14. Measuring Teamwork in Primary Care: Triangulation of Qualitative and Quantitative Data.

This article describes the triangulation of qualitative dimensions, reflecting high functioning teams, with the results of standardized teamwork measures. The study used a mixed methods design using qualitative and quantitative approaches to assess team-work in 19 Family Health Teams in Ontario, Canada. This article describes dimensions from the qualitative phase using grounded theory to explore the issues and challenges to teamwork. Two quantitative measures were used in the study, the Team Climate Inventory (TCI) and the Providing Effective Resources and Knowledge (PERK) scale. For the triangulation analysis, the mean scores of these measures were compared with the qualitatively derived ratings for the dimensions. The final sample for the qualitative component was 107 participants. The qualitative analysis identified 9 dimensions related to high team functioning such as common philosophy, scope of practice, conflict resolution, change management, leadership, and team evolution. From these dimensions, teams were categorized numerically as high, moderate, or low functioning. Three hundred seventeen team members completed the survey measures. Mean site scores for the TCI and PERK were 3.87 and 3.88, respectively (of 5). The TCI was associated will all dimensions except for team location, space allocation, and executive director leadership. The PERK was associated with all dimensions except team location. Data triangulation provided qualitative and quantitative evidence of what constitutes teamwork. Leadership was pivotal in forging a common philosophy and encouraging team collaboration. Teams used conflict resolution strategies and adapted to the changes they encountered. These dimensions advanced the team's evolution toward a high functioning team. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

本論の目的は、筆者が所属する英語英米文学科の2年生が後期に全員参加する約半年間の北米への留学プログラムについて、留学後に学生が回答したアンケートの分析を試み、そこから今後のより良いプログラムの提供に向けて示唆を得ようとするものである。学生が帰国後に行った過去4年分の事後アンケートを対象にして、授業、課外活動、ホームステイ、私生活、留学先大学、プログラム全般など、多角的な側面から縦断的に量的ならびに質的な分析を行った。その結果、留学先による違い、授業の種類による違い、ホームステイのタイプ(シングルまたはダブル)による違いについての特徴が明らかとなった。最後に、調査結果に基づき、学生の英語力向上、プログラム内容、プログラム運営、今後のさらなる調査、について示唆を得た。, The rapid spread of globalization has become an inescapable issue educational institutions must urgently address. To this end, many institutions of higher education have undertaken various measures, including offering more university courses in English and increasing the number of study-abroad, double-degree, joint-degree, and student-exchange programs. Particularly, the number of university students joining study-abroad programs offered by their universities has been increasing. Therefore, periodically checking the educational effects of such programs will be worthwhile. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate a five-month study-abroad program of a university by adopting qualitative and quantitative approaches, and to provide perspectives for its future improvement. The data were based on questionnaires administered to over 450 students who participated in the program in 2013 to 2016 upon their return to Japan after completing the study-abroad program at universities in the US and Canada. Multiple aspects of the program, such as types of classes, extracurricular activities, homestay experiences, and program contents, were analyzed. The results showed some similarities and differences in the responses of the students, who studied at different campuses and had different homestay settings. Encounters with other international students in class and the establishment of a good personal relationship with a host family in particular seem to greatly impact students' broader impression of their study-abroad experiences. The implications of the study include various ways to improve students' English proficiency, program contents, and program management, as well as areas for further research.

This case study was designed to investigate students' perceptions and experiences of the dynamics of online collaborative learning over a semester. Multiple sources of data were collected and triangulated through pre- and post-surveys, personal interviews, group reflection papers, and instructor's observations. Forty-one graduate students enrolled in the same course with the same instructor in two different learning environments-web-based and web-supplemented, participated in the study. The overall results indicated that students in the two environments shared their positive understandings and perceptions about online collaborative learning, which were significantly deepened over time. However the students in the web-based class were found more positive about the advantages of online collaborative learning than those in the web-supplemented class as their learning experience developed. At a time of a paradigm shift in urban mobilities, many objects aim to guide spatial behaviours towards alternative to the car. Among them, the Walking School Bus (WSB) is a school transport under the supervision of volunteers to escort children to school on foot. Its institutionalisation and its media coverage illustrate the mechanisms of handling contemporary public problems and the capacity of actors of the government of behaviour to make up the discourse. Thus, the WSB is presented as beneficial in every way whereas research remains fragmented and nuanced, when the practice is marginal and short-lived. It is in this context that we suggested a comprehensive analysis of both France and French-speaking Switzerland combining qualitative and quantitative approaches, based on three elements : promotional speeches, effective deployment and WSB usages. Our analyses showed that the WSB was inserted in a communication strategy based on the logic of modal choice, emphasising individual responsibility, referring to morality, guilt and pedagogy. While Swiss promoters are easily identifiable, in France they are more erratic and their actions remain isolated. Our results also showed that the practice of the WSB was dependent on specific urban and social characteristics. On the one hand, it is especially present in wealthier urban neighbours, cordoned off by roads, questioning the definition of WSB as an alternative solution to car use. On the other hand, a specific user profile was highlighted, suggesting that there exists social provisions in favour of collective commitments such as WSB. It being perceived more as a practical, educational and reassuring mean to remedy policy failures, than as a healthy and green mode of travel.; Inscrits dans un contexte de changement de paradigme des mobilités urbaines, de nombreux dispositifsvisent à orienter les comportements de déplacement vers des alternatives à l’automobile. Parmi eux, le Pédibus correspond à un ramassage scolaire bénévole pour accompagner les enfants à l’école à pied. Son institutionnalisation et sa médiatisation illustrent les mécanismes de prise en charge des problèmes publicscontemporains et la capacité des acteurs du gouvernement des conduites à fabriquer des discours. Ainsi, le Pédibus est présenté comme bénéfique en tout point alors que les études restent parcellaires et nuancées, quand sa pratique est marginale et éphémère. C’est dans ce contexte que nous avons proposé une analyse transversale franco-suisse romande compréhensive, associant approches qualitatives et quantitatives, qui repose sur trois pieds : discours promotionnels, déploiement effectif et pratiques. L’ensemble de nos analyses a montré que le Pédibus s’inscrivait dans une stratégie de communication basée sur la logique du choix modal, mettant l’accent sur la responsabilité individuelle en recourant à la morale, la culpabilité et la pédagogie. Si les promoteurs suisses sont aisément identifiables, en France ils sont plus erratiques et les actions restent isolées. Nos résultats ont également montré que la pratique du Pédibus était soumise à des caractéristiques urbaines et sociales spécifiques. D’une part, il est surtout présent dans les espaces résidentiels aisés, ceinturés par des voies de circulation, questionnant sa définition comme solution alternative à l’automobile. D’autre part, un profil spécifique d’usagers a été mis en évidence, suggérant qu’il existerait des dispositions sociales en faveur de l’engagement collectif tel que le Pédibus. Ce dernier est davantage perçu comme pratique, éducatif et rassurant pour pallier certaines défaillances politiques, que comme un déplacement sanitaire et écologique.

International audience; Innovation is widely accepted as one of the keys to being successful. However, companies can innovate and still fail if markets fail to accept the innovation. In most cases, the acceptance of an innovation depends on the innovation itself and also on the product to which it is applied. In this chapter acceptance of different innovations in traditional food products is investigated, thus focusing on the definition of the "traditional" and "innovation" concepts from the consumer's perspective. Qualitative and quantitative approaches are combined to better understand and predict the possibilities of success when applying different generic and specific innovations in traditional food products. Overall, substantial possibilities for the introduction of innovation in traditional food products seem to exist without decreasing their traditional image, especially for those innovations that may increase the authenticity of the product.The information obtained from this study may support small and medium enterprises in certain decisions regarding communication, product positioning, and new developments in the traditional food market as well as when applying food innovations in their traditional food products.

Cet article vise à montrer comment la notion de genres du discours permet d’articuler les approches qualitatives et quantitatives. Il en expose les raisons épistémologiques et les implications méthodologiques, notamment la conception du sujet qu’elle suppose et les risques d’artefact qu’il y a à ne pas penser la notion de genres du discours. Il montre enfin combien les approches quantitatives sont utiles, en retour, pour définir et neutraliser les genres dans les études comparatives. This article aims to explain how the notion of speech genres can articulate qualitative and quantitative approaches. It outlines epistemological reasons and methodological implications, notably the definition of the subject that it assumes and the risks of artefact to not think the notion of speech genres. It shows finally how quantitative approaches are useful, in return, for the definition and the neutralization of genres in comparative studies.

Este artículo tiene como propósito demostrar la factibilidad de integración de los enfoques cuantitativo y cualitativo en la evaluación de los aprendizajes. En el caso particular, se trata de la evaluación de un texto del género resumen que fue escrito en español por estudiantes de Ingeniería, a partir de la lectura de diversos resúmenes auténticos escritos en inglés publicados en revistas de divulgación científica. La composición de resúmenes por parte de estudiantes de Ingeniería constituye una estrategia de evaluación en la asignatura Inglés II, por tratarse de un género propio de la carrera. Así, la evaluación se inserta en los principios de ser continua, constructiva, integral, reflexiva, cooperativa y científica, por lo que evalúa tanto el proceso de composición como el producto resultante de ésta, que se realizan bajo distintos propósitos y momentos del proceso de enseñanza y de aprendizaje. Para dar cuenta de la integración cuali-cuantitativa en la evaluación del resumen, se analizan los trabajos elaborados por los estudiantes durante un semestre y entregados al final de este, dentro del cual se consideran las habilidades que emplean los estudiantes para su elaboración. Los resultados revelan que la evaluación de textos propios de una determinada comunidad de pensamiento desarrolla la conciencia de los estudiantes en torno a la identidad que les posibilita insertarse en el aprendizaje disciplinar y, por tanto, en la elaboración de un producto cónsono con la cultura académica de la que forman parte. De esta manera, la integración cuali-cuantitativa apoya el trabajo del docente al permitirle recopilar y analizar información relevante y pertinente en la toma de decisiones al momento de valorar una realidad en el campo educativo. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the feasability of integrating both qualitative and quantitative approaches of the evaluation at the university. In this particular case, an abstract written in Spanish by a group of students of the career of Engineering is evaluated after extensive reading of abstracts in English. The writing of abstracts by these students is a strategy used within the subject English II since these texts conform a genre that is often present in the academic context. Due to the continuous, constructive, integral, reflexive, cooperative and scientific character of the evaluation, both the process and the product of the written texts under different purposes and moments of the teaching and learning process are considered. To account for the qualitative and quantitative integration in the writing of the abstract, the drafts written during a semester period as well as the final version of the abstract are analyzed. The writing abilities of the students are taken into account. The findings suggest that the evaluation of genders according to a determined discourse community develops a consciousness in the students towards the identity of a discipline that leads them to the production of a text according to the academic culture which they belong. The integration of qualitative and quantitative approaches support the teacher`s performance since it provides the opportunity to gather and analyze relevant information useful for the decision making in the educational field. 45-53 anual

Temeljni cilj rada jest pružiti uvid u sociološka i filozofska uporišta suvremenih etnografskih istraživanja. Shodno tome, polazište je rasparava o prikladnosti i neprikladnosti kvalitativnih i kvantitativnih pristupa. Potom se razmatra naturalizam ili sociološki pozitivizam koji podrazumijeva ideju jedinstva prirodnih i društvenih znanosti. Bilježi se i primjena relativizma što reflektira utjecaj fenomenologije 60-tih i 70-ih dvadesetog stoljeća. Anti-realistički „preporod“ izvršio je također značajan utjecaj na etnografiju, a njegove posljedice sadržane su u postupku prihvaćanja konstruktivističkih perspektiva unutar istraživačkog procesa. Sagledava se i tradicija kreativne i interpretativne sociologije, dočim je u kontekstu relacije poststrukturalizma i etnografije naglasak na individualnom tumačenju socijalne realnosti i položaja pojedinca u socijalnom svijetu. Utjecaj fenomenologije iščitava se unutar naglaska na potpunoj uključenosti u određene društvene ili kulturne grupe sa ciljem otkrivanja ključnih ideja. Interakcionistička etnografija proistječe izravno iz organiziranih prepostavki simboličkog interakcionizma, dočim su dodirne točke etnometodologije i etnografije sažete u preklapanju perspektiva usmjerenih prema intepretativnim tradicijama temeljenih na životnom svijetu, sličnom pogledu na uloge društvenih aktera i tipičnom izbjegavanju kvantitativnih teorijskih pristupa stvarnosti., The basic aim of this paper is to provide insight into the sociological and philosophical bases of contemporary ethnographic research. Accordingly, we start from a discussion of the appropriateness and inappropriateness of qualitative and quantitative approaches.The paper provides a discussion of naturalism and sociological positivism, which argues for the idea of the unity of the natural and social sciences. The application of relativism is recorded, which reflects the influence of the phenomenology of the 60s and 70s of the twentieth century. The anti-realist “rebirth” has also made a significant impact on ethnography, and its consequences are contained in the process of the acceptance of constructivist perspectives within the research process. This paper also examines the traditions of creative and interpretive sociology, whereas in the context of the relationship between poststructuralism and ethnography emphasis is placed on an individual interpretation of social reality and an individual position in the social world. The influence of phenomenology can be read within an emphasis on full participation in certain social or cultural groups with the aim of discovering its key ideas. Interactionist ethnography derives directly from organized assumptions of symbolic interactionism, whereas the contact point of ethnomethodology and ethnography is summarized in their overlapping perspectives which are aimed at interpretative traditions based on the life-world, which have similar views on the role of social actors and which avoid the typical quantitative theoretical approach to reality.

A partir de um estudo de caso duma vila do nordeste de Portugal, no período de 1944-1994, este artigo tem como objectivo o estudo de processos de mudança social, privilegiando o grupo doméstico como unidade de análise. Recorre-se ao cruzamento de diferentes tipos de fontes (inquérito etnográfico, documentos do Arquivo Paroquial) e salienta-se a importância do uso complementar de métodos quantitativos e qualitativos na abordagem dinâmica do grupo doméstico. Using the domestic group as the privileged unit of analysis, this article provides a study of social change based on the case study of a town in Northeastern Portugal, covering the period between 1944-1994. The article combines different types of sources (ethnographic inquiry, documents from the Parochial Archives) and underscores the importance of the complementary use of qualitative and quantitative methods for a dynamic approach to the study of the domestic group.
