- Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in online counseling for children with single-incident trauma. Method: A qualitative case study method was employed. The research was conducted with two volunteering children and their parents. The sessions were transcribed by the authors, and code names (Ipek and Eylül) were assigned to protect the participants' identities. İpek's traumatic memory was explored through drawing pictures with tactile bilateral stimuli and Eylül's traumatic experience was addressed using tactile bilateral stimuli during the EMDR therapeutic story technique. The Child Revised Impact of Events Scale (CRIES-8) was used for pre-test, post-test, and follow-up testing to support the session descriptions. Results: The results indicated that post-traumatic symptoms were reduced and remained at a low level for an extended period in both clients. Conclusions: It is suggested that future studies should explore various bilateral stimulation methods in online EMDR, conduct larger-scale studies with children who have experienced different types of traumatic events, and investigate the impact of various EMDR protocols on children. Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic broughtabout unprecedented problems for contemporary society. Among the numerous challenges faced following the spread of the virus, the need to provide assessment tools and remote psychological assistance certainly deserves particular attention. Indeed, this profound paradigm shift in psychological assessment and care occurred during a period of fragility for people already suffering from the restrictions imposed to stem the spread of the virus. One population particularly affected by the pandemic was students, including university students. The latter faced the pandemic in a particularly critical formative period. Methods: For these reasons, our systematic review has two main objectives: (i) identify the assessment tools and psychological dimensions most used/investigated during the pandemic in Italian university students; (ii) systematize and deepen our knowledge about the impact of the pandemic on the psychological wellbeing of Italian university students. Our search used PRISMA 2020 guidelines on Web of Science, Pubmed, Scopus, and EBSCOHost. Results: The results indicated that the psychological dimensions most investigated in university students during the pandemic were anxiety and depression. At the same time, the most used assessment instruments were the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-Y) and the Beck Depression lnventory-ll (BDI-II). Furthermore, it is clear from the results that the pandemic has harmed the psychological wellbeing of university students. Finally, we dedicated a section to discuss the interventions implemented by university counseling services during the pandemic. Discussion: This review could improve the work of university counseling services in this post-pandemic period and contribute to developing specific screening and assessment programs for future emergencies. Background. In recent decades, practical psychology has been rapidly developing in the country. The market offers a wide variety of psychological services, while the problem of psychological security, distinguishing scientifically based practices from harmful influences, becomes especially relevant. This article is devoted to the scientific justification of counseling and coaching as types of socio-psychological assistance. Objective. The goal is to analyze and correlate the theoretical foundations and practice of psychological counseling and coaching. The article is aimed at studying the origins of these areas of practice and identifying the subject matter, goals and features of technologies of socio-psychological counseling and socio-psychological coaching. Results. Socio-psychological counseling and coaching are defined as professional activities aimed at helping a client solve his personal, interpersonal, group and organizational problems based on personal and social resources. The purpose of socio-psychological counseling is to increase the effectiveness of the client's interaction with oneself, with the environment and organizations. The purpose of socio-psychological coaching is to create effective ways to resolve subjectively significant situations of social interaction that lead to positive changes in the client's life and personality. Socio-psychological counseling and coaching allow one to help the client by developing socio-psychological competence. Conclusions. Socio-psychological counseling and socio-psychological coaching have their own subject, theoretical and methodological basis and represent types of psychological practice. Developing and borrowing methods and fields of application from each other, consulting and coaching are increasingly converging, sometimes to the point of blurring the differences completely. In the market of psychological services, counseling and coaching exist as separate professions and act as different services for clients.

ObjectiveTo understand the current status of psychotherapy and counseling resources in mental health institutions in Chinese mainland, and provide a reference for the formulation of relevant policies. MethodsFrom May to June 2021, the National Mental Health Program Office conducted a resource survey using a self-designed questionnaire on 3 833 institutions providing psychotherapy/counseling services across all 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in Chinese mainland. The data were collected and summarized by mental health program offices at all levels in each region and reported to the National Mental Health Program Office. ResultsNationwide, 64.56% of mental health institutions provided psychotherapy/counseling services, with 65.24% of psychiatric specialty hospitals and 69.44% of psychiatric (psychological) departments in general hospitals offering these services. Among the mental health institutions providing psychotherapy/counseling services, 52.54% had independent departments undertaking these services. Psychiatrists accounted for the largest proportion (65.61%) of the personnel providing psychotherapy/counseling services. The quantity of psychotherapy/counseling service resources (1 663 institutions and 13 061 personnel) and the number of service providers per unit land area (122.14 per 10,000 square kilometers) in mental health institutions in eastern China were higher than those in central (1 022 institutions, 9 064 personnel, and 53.63 per 10 000 square kilometers) and western regions (1 148 institutions, 9 259 personnel, and 13.52 per 10 000 square kilometers). ConclusionIn recent years, the number of mental health institutions providing psychotherapy/counseling services has increased significantly. However, the coverage and distribution of resources across eastern, central, and western regions remain uneven, requiring further improvement.

In traditional psychological counseling, limitations of patients’ subjective feelings and expressive abilities, as well as the varying levels of professional skills and conversation skills of counselors, make it difficult to properly solve psychological problems. Emotional recognition technology can help psychological counselors better understand the inner world of patients, thereby providing more targeted psychological counseling services for college students. 2D convolutional neural network-long short-term memory (2DCNN-LSTM) and 1D convolutional neural network-long short-term memory network (1DCNN-LSTM) were used for emotion recognition. Wavelet packet coefficient sequences were utilized to analyze multimodal data; multi-core convolutional neural network models were applied for multimodal feature layer fusion, and LSTM recurrent neural networks were used to effectively identify valence and college student emotions. The experimental results showed that under multimodal recognition, the average recognition accuracy of 2DCNN-LSTM for fourth-year university students was 18.7% higher than that of 1DCNN-LSTM for fourth-year university students. Compared with 1DCNN-LSTM, 2DCNN-LSTM can achieve better recognition accuracy. The research results can help psychological counselors better understand the emotional state and needs of students and provide more personalized and targeted counseling services.

This research aims to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in psychological counseling and utilize machine learning algorithms to predict counseling outcomes. Firstly, by employing natural language processing techniques to analyze user conversations with AI chatbots, researchers can gain insights into the psychological states and needs of users during the counseling process. This involves detailed analysis using text analysis, sentiment analysis, and other relevant techniques. Subsequently, machine learning algorithms are used to establish predictive models that forecast counseling outcomes and user satisfaction based on data such as user language, emotions, and behavior. These predictive results can assist counselors or AI chatbots in adjusting counseling strategies, thereby enhancing counseling effectiveness and user experience. Additionally, this study explores the potential and prospects of AI technology in the field of psychological counseling. The research findings indicate that the designed machine learning models achieve an accuracy rate of approximately 89% in analyzing psychological conditions. This demonstrates significant innovation and breakthroughs in AI technology. Consequently, AI technology will gradually become a highly important tool and method in the field of psychological counseling. In the future, AI chatbots will become more intelligent and personalized, providing users with precise, efficient, and convenient psychological counseling services. This study investigates the feasibility and effectiveness of using ChatGPT for training case conceptualization skills in psychological counseling. The novelty of this research lies in the application of an AI-based model, ChatGPT, to enhance the professional development of prospective counselors, particularly in the realm of case conceptualization—a core competence in psychotherapy. Traditional training methods are often limited by time and resources, while ChatGPT offers a scalable and interactive alternative. Through a single-blind assessment, this study explores the accuracy, completeness, feasibility, and consistency of OpenAI's ChatGPT for case conceptualization in psychological counseling. Results show that using ChatGPT for generating case conceptualization is acceptable in terms of accuracy, completeness, feasibility, and consistency, as evaluated by experts. Therefore, counseling educators can encourage trainees to use ChatGPT as auxiliary methods for developing case conceptualization skills during supervision processes. The social implications of this research are significant, as the integration of AI in psychological counseling could address the growing need for mental health services and support. By improving the accuracy and efficiency of case conceptualization, ChatGPT can contribute to better counseling outcomes, potentially reducing the societal burden of mental health issues. Moreover, the use of AI in this context prompts important discussions on ethical considerations and the evolving role of technology in human services. Overall, this study highlights the potential of ChatGPT to serve as a valuable tool in counselor training, ultimately aiming to enhance the quality and accessibility of psychological support services.

Background & Statement of the problem: The presence of journalists and photographers in conflict zones exposes them to psychological vulnerabilities, which may lead to the development of psychological disorders over time. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the level of psychological fragility among a sample of journalists and photographers during their coverage of events in conflict zones in Palestine. Methods: To achieve the study objectives, a mixed-methods approach was employed. The Obaidat Psychological Fragility Scale (2021) was administered to a sample of 141 participants selected using purposive sampling method. Results: The findings revealed an average level of psychological fragility, with a mean score of 2.76, representing 54% of the maximum score. Additionally, the results indicated no statistically significant differences in the mean scores of psychological fragility based on the type of work variable. However, statistically significant differences were observed in the mean scores based on years of experience. Qualitative analysis identified several factors contributing to psycho- logical fragility, including extended work hours without breaks, exposure to distressing live scenes, lack of protection from potential harm and attacks, and insufficient psychological support. Conclusions (Recommendations and contributions): The study recommends the importance of developing comprehensive and effective counseling programs to reduce psychological vulnerability and improve levels of psychological resilience among journalists and photographers specializing in covering hot events. - Abstract
Objective To understand the factors related to turnover intention among psychological counseling practitioners and provide reference for human resource management decision -making in the psychological profession. Methods From September to October 2022, taking Yichang City as an example, a stratified sampling method was used to distribute 145 questionnaires to psychological counseling practitioners in various counties and cities. The perceived stress scale (PSS), the Maslach burnout inventory-general survey (MBI-GS), the Connor-Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC), and the turnover intention questionnaire (TIQ) were used to investigate the subjects' perceived stress, occupational burnout, psychological resilience, and turnover intention, respectively. Logistic regression model was used to analyze the factors related to turnover intention. Results A total of 138 valid questionnaires were collected, with an effective recovery rate of 95.2%. The mean score of the psychological resilience scale was (66.64 ± 14.94) points. 87 people (63.0%) felt moderate or above stress; 38 people (27.5%) had a certain degree or above of occupational burnout. The rates of turnover intention, in order of very low, low, high, and very high, were 6.5% (9 people), 37.7% (52 people), 44.9% (62 people), and 10.9% (15 people), respectively. The logistic regression analysis showed that, compared with those who were satisfied with salary, the probability of high turnover intention among those who were dissatisfied with salary increased to 2.955 times (P < 0.05). For every 1-point increase in the occupational burnout score, the possibility of high turnover intention increased to 1.039 times (P < 0.05). Conclusions The influencing factors of turnover intention among psychological counseling practitioners were different from those of many other industries, which may be related to the uniqueness of the psychological counseling industry. Improving salary satisfaction and reducing occupational burnout are of great significance for maintaining a stable workforce of psychological counseling practitioners. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research paper evaluates the effectiveness of electro-acupuncture combined with psychological counseling in treating insomnia, compared with traditional Western medicine methods. A total of 129 inpatients from a hospital were divided into two groups: the treatment group (76 cases) and the control group (53 cases). The treatment group received electro-acupuncture tailored to specific Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) insomnia patterns, alongside conventional psychological counseling. The control group was administered Clonazepam. The research methodology included detailed diagnostic criteria based on TCM principles and specific acupuncture points and techniques for different insomnia patterns. The results indicated a significantly higher total effective rate of 89.5% in the treatment group compared to 60.4% in the control group. Furthermore, the study discusses the theoretical basis of TCM in treating insomnia, emphasizing the importance of balancing yin and yang and the role of emotional well-being in maintaining health. The findings suggest that electro-acupuncture, in conjunction with psychological counseling, offers a more effective and stable treatment for insomnia with fewer side effects than conventional Western medication. Individuals with disabilities are more vulnerable to depression development than the general population. This study sought to map the evidence on current knowledge of depression, intervention strategies, and assessment tools among people with disabilities. This review was conducted following Arksey and O′Malley’s scoping review methodology framework. An electronic search was performed on four English databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, and Web of Science. The original search returned 1802 results, with 1,116 from Web of Science, 626 from PubMed, 25 from Cochrane, and 35 from PsycINFO. After removing duplicates, 786 articles were chosen for the title and abstract screening processes. Finally, 112 full-text publications were deemed eligible, with 41 papers being included in this scoping review for analysis. A large proportion (32; 78.04%) of the studies chosen were cross-sectional, 14 (34.14%) of them reported general disability, 12 (29.26%) used a patient health questionnaire (PHQ-9) to measure depression, and 14 (34.14%) had interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychological counseling, social support, and physical activity. All interventions successfully reduced the severity of the depression. Cognitive behavioral therapies and psychological counseling were widely used interventions that had a significant impact on reducing depression. More randomized controlled trials are required, and they should focus on individuals with specific disabilities to provide disability-specific care that can improve the quality of life for disabled individuals.

Yin-Yang Dialectical Psychotherapy (YYDP) was developed by Profession Zheng, a Chinese psychologist. It conflates the traditional Chinese Yin-Yang theory with humanistic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and the philosophy of structuralism from Western cultures. YYDP is effective in addressing a wide range of psychological issues. This article is a case study of the use of YYDP in psychological counseling for an adolescent who was experiencing teenage rebellion with a risk of dropping out of school. YYDP successfully helped the client, and her parents develop more positive and balanced attitudes towards interpersonal relationships and supported the client in restoring normal school life. University counseling services (UCSs) are actively involved in mental health assessment and in supplying interventions aimed at preventing, facing and possibly overcoming psychological problems. However, we do not have a global overview of psychological counseling among universities. This systematic review aims at reviewing the literature on university psychological counseling, including articles documenting: (1) mental health and attitudes regarding help-seeking behaviors and UCSs among university students or counselors, (2) the description of protocols/services among UCSs, (3) the efficacy of psychological counseling/interventions among university students (both face-to-face and internet-delivered interventions). The study followed PRISMA guidelines and was registered on PROSPERO. After defining inclusion and exclusion criteria, a literature search was conducted, identifying 7085 records. Finally, 152 articles met the review eligibility criteria and were included in the qualitative synthesis. Results are divided into seven thematic topics that emerged during the analysis of the literature. The results mainly showed that face-to-face and web-based counseling/psychological interventions improve university students’ mental health. Cross-sectional studies showed that many biases exist toward help-seeking behaviors, especially among international students. Both students and counselors must strive to overcome cultural barriers. Available resources for UCSs are scarce and need to be strengthened, as well as efficacy studies through randomized clinical trials.

Understanding the attitudes of athletes towards sports psychology is crucially important because if psychologists understand the barriers and hesitations of athletes towards psychological counseling, they can intervene educationally to foster a mindset and belief. In the current study, we aim to examine the existing differences between high-performance sports and non-professional (junior) sports regarding psychological counseling. The SPAR (Sport Psychology Attitudes-Revised) questionnaire was applied to a set of 84 athletes, aged between 12 and 36 years old. In junior sports, the scores on the sub-scale of stigma tolerance are lower, and they are less concerned with the stigma issue, preferring to seek psychological counseling only when absolutely necessary.

The outbreak of a new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic in early 2020 has had a great impact on the mental health status of college students, especially elevating the prevalence of PTSD among students. Based on the cognitive theory of ACT, this study develops a mobile networked intervention program to enhance students’ psychological state and students’ coping ability under the intervention of the ACT model and realizes the function of ACT intervention in the form of networked self-help. Through Latent Gold analysis software, the potential profiles of multiple characteristics of the subjects were categorized in order to scientifically examine the effect of the ACT model on enhancing students’ coping abilities. The results indicated that the ACT intervention group was able to significantly alleviate students’ depression levels (d = 0.71), and enhance students’ positive mental health (d = 0.42), compared to the waiting group. The results verified the effectiveness of the ACT network intervention application, which can provide a reference for the networked reform of psychological counseling in colleges and universities.

MENTAL health counseling , *MULTICULTURALISM , *SPIRITUALITY - Abstract
When we consider from the ethical perspective and take account of the fact that it is not accurate for the psychological counselors to choose their client according to the culture they had been raised in or to the problems the clients bring into the consultation process, it seems important for the future of the PCG field in Turkey that the consultant candidates continuing their education in psychological counseling and guidance (PCG) programs should be given the multicultural perspective and provided with inclusive information about what spirituality is through theoretical and applied courses. It is evident that a psychological process neglecting the cultural differences and spirituality would not be successful and that the consultants might experience cultural encapsulation and occupational dissatisfaction during this process. It is only possible for the consultant candidates who will work in Turkey which is a highly rich country in terms of culture to be able to work with consultants coming from very different backgrounds within this cultural mosaic and to empathize with their clients while conducting the consultation process through the good education they will receive. It appears to be essential to give supervision to consultant candidates by embedding the courses of 'Multiculturalism and Spirituality' into PCG programs of the universities as well as the researchers to discuss more about multiculturalism and spirituality and that these two concepts are included into the psychological counseling process as two important resources of the counseling process. HELP-seeking behavior , *MENTAL health counseling , *COLLEGE students , *MENTAL health of students , *PSYCHOTHERAPY , *COUNSELING - Abstract
The results mainly showed that face-to-face and web-based counseling/psychological interventions improve university students' mental health. Cross-sectional studies showed that many biases exist toward help-seeking behaviors, especially among international students. Both students and counselors must strive to overcome cultural barriers. Available resources for UCSs are scarce and need to be strengthened, as well as efficacy studies through randomized clinical trials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines the issue of professional burnout among military personnel operating in a military conflict zone. Peculiarities of psychological support of military professional activities of servicemen are considered in detail. Psychological support of military personnel includes the following aspects: psychological counseling, psychotherapeutic assistance and analysis of personal factors that contribute to professional burnout (such as introversion, sensitivity, low self-esteem and self-esteem, desire to dominate). Aspects related to the status and roles of the military are also considered (role conflicts, negative stereotypes, dissatisfaction with professional growth, decline in social status, alienation from the reference group). Professional and organizational aspects are also important (organizational conflicts, lack of autonomy, excessive control). In addition, existential aspects are considered (dissatisfaction with the achieved results, feelings of frustration, dissatisfaction with the results of activities, loss of meaning, feelings of loneliness). Professional burnout can disrupt the functioning of military units, create a negative psychological climate, and reduce the effectiveness of military operations. If military personnel show symptoms of professional burnout, their psychological state can deteriorate and affect all members of the military team. The effective performance of combat tasks requires not only professional training and physical abilities, but also the ability to express responsibility, independence, self-control, flexibility and the ability to make decisions and effectively cooperate with other members of the military team during stressful situations and the performance of professional duties. This research study examines crisis situations in counseling centers and their role in facilitating personal growth and development in clients/students. It emphasizes the importance of counseling centers not only as venues for therapeutic interventions but also as catalysts for personal and interpersonal development. Specifically, the study focuses on comparing crisis situations in counseling centers between the USA and North Macedonia, taking into account the number of admissions for specific psychopathological conditions over the course of one year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Desk analysis was employed to analyze admission data obtained from counseling centers in both countries. The research findings will shed light on the disparities in the number of admissions for specific psychopathological conditions between North Macedonia and the USA. This cross-cultural comparison aims to enhance our understanding of crisis situations and the demand for counseling services within distinct cultural and contextual contexts. The implications of this study are significant, as it can contribute to the improvement of counseling services in both North Macedonia and the USA, offering support to individuals experiencing psychopathological conditions during crisis situations. The aim of this research was to explore the experiences of a sample of disabled women about problems with romantic relationships/sexual life. For the study, eight disabled women between the ages of 20 and 38 years were contacted. One theme to emerge was "sexuality as taboo" related to the family. It also seemed that these taboos led to women not receiving health information during adolescence. A second theme to emerge was "forbidden before marriage", which means that women with disabilities were prevented from dating and having sexual intercourse before marriage. A third theme to emerge was "disabled people are targets of sexual abuse" related to the overprotection of disabled women by their families. The final theme was "ableism is the biggest obstacle to the romantic/sexual relationships of disabled women". Participants emphasized the importance of obtaining information regarding disability and sexual life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. The 120th anniversary was celebrated in 2022 of the birth of the outstanding Soviet scientist P.Ya. Galperin (1902–1988), who made a signi# cant contribution to the development of Russian psychology. Objective. To analyze the signi# cance of P.Ya. Galperin’s concept of “orienting activity” for the study of processes of mental development, learning and instruction. Design. ! e concept of “the zone of proximal development” (L.S. Vygotsky) is interpreted in light of the doctrine of orienting activity, presenting three examples from di$ erent areas of research, where the concept of orienting activity is used to analyze the phenomena of mental development in children and adults. Results. 1. ! e concept of orienting activity makes it possible to substantially concretize the psychological content and mechanisms of “the zone of proximal development.” 2. ! e subject’s orienting activity plays a key role, which is implicitly present in the method of “cognitive learning” developed in the Geneva psychological school and reproducing (according to the followers of J. Piaget) “an autonomous process of constructing new operational structures”. 3. ! e study examines the organization of orienting activity in the process of children’s mastery of the concepts of combinatorial thinking in a learning experiment based on Galperin’s method of stage-by-stage formation of mental actions and concepts. 4. ! e role of a client’s orienting activity is explicated, and its special organization by the psychologist who is counseling parents on the mental development and upbringing of children and adolescents. Conclusion. P.Ya. Galperin’s discovery regarding the structure of human activity and introduction of the concept of “orientation,” and the creation of a method for studying the orienting component of action as distinct from the executive component, lead to a much deeper understanding of the central problem posed by L.S. Vygotsky: the interrelation and mechanisms of connection between the processes of learning, instruction (teaching) and development.

Schools play an important role in the psychosocial, academic, and professional development of refugee children. Specifically, psychological counselors and guidance (PCG) experts who provide mental health services in schools have a critical role in this process. The way of approach to the problems, areas of difficulty, support needs, and suggestions of PCG experts who have experience working with refugee children can increase the quality of the services to be provided in this direction. In this study based on qualitative design, the experiences of PCG experts who have worked with refugee children were examined. The data were collected from 38 PCG experts. The data were analyzed with the thematic analysis technique. As a result of the analyses, 27 sub-themes related to six themes were determined: the perceptions of the PCG experts about refugee children, their approach to refugee children, the demands of refugee children, the activities carried out for refugee children, the competence to work with refugee children, and effective intervention proposals for refugee children. It has been determined that PCG experts have a realistic perception of refugee children, they carry out various activities towards refugee children in a professional manner in line with their demands, and they develop various coping methods against difficulties in this process. Although working with refugee children contributes to improving the professional skills of PCG experts, PCG experts need training to giving effective services to refugee children such as non-language-based methods, trauma education, refugee rights, psychoeducation and play therapy activities.
