Introduction: In the COVID-19 era, burnout is a major occupational hazard among healthcare workers. This scoping review intended to investigate the pertinent literature concerning COVID-19 burnout among healthcare workers (HCWs) and the measures to prevent and reduce HCW burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The databases CINAHL, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Scopus were systematically searched and screened for relevant papers. Additionally, manual searching was employed to supplement the electronic database results. The researchers examined 21 publications to answer the research question, "What have been the measures to prevent and reduce healthcare worker burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic?" The PRISMA 2020 checklist was used to guide the reporting of this scoping review. Results: It was found that to diminish healthcare workers' burnout, it is vital to use multilevel, evidence-based approaches. These interventions may include increasing awareness of the risks and preparing for potential occupational stress and burnout; promoting mindfulness and self-care practices to enhance mental well-being; enhancing organizational policies and procedures to address burnout among healthcare workers; and ensuring the availability of optimal mental health services, including the use of digital technologies to address workplace stress and facilitate mental health interventions. Conclusion: The interventions to prevent and reduce HCW burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic include supporting HCWs individually, improving work environments, and addressing health system factors contributing to burnout complemented by interventions aimed at enhancing work culture. While current studies have primarily focused on the impact felt by parents or spouses, the distinct experiences of siblings have received comparatively less attention. This systematic review addresses the existing research gap regarding the psychological and social consequences experienced by siblings of individuals with deafblindness. A comprehensive search was conducted across multiple electronic databases, including PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, Dissertations & Theses (on ProQuest), ERIC (Education Resources Information Center), International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS), Sociological Abstracts, Google Scholar, PubMed, and Cairn Info. Seven studies were identified as meeting the eligibility criteria for inclusion. The review revealed that siblings of individuals with deafblindness face psychological and social challenges, including emotions such as feelings of neglect, resentment, embarrassment, jealousy, and anxiety. Siblings also grapple with communication difficulties, contributing to feelings of exclusion and insecurity. In addition, these siblings take on significant responsibilities within the family and encounter obstacles in forming relationships outside the family. These findings underscore the need of interventions to improve the well-being of siblings of individuals with deafblindness by addressing their psycho-emotional needs and promoting positive social interactions. Healthcare workers around the world were confronted with innumerable torments with the emergence of COVID-19. Amid the pandemic, frontline healthcare personnel serve crucial responsibilities and endure significant social, psychological and economic consequences. This cross-sectional study collected demographic data for 1 year from 385 healthcare officials from all the hospitals spread across the state of Khartoum to research the factors that affected the healthcare workers and doctors who were on the frontline to diagnose and treat the patients with potential or confirmed COVID-19. The degree of symptoms of depression, anxiety and insomnia was also assessed through validated measurement tools. The female participants showed more vulnerability to depression, anxiety and insomnia than their male counterparts. The aim of this work was to describe the psychological consequences derived from the use and abuse of the Internet and video games. A sample of 260 university students (146 Women and 114 Men) of different academic degrees (Baccalaureate 15%, Bachelor's Degree 76.5%, Postgraduate 8.5%) with an average age of 20 years (S.D. = 2.8) was evaluated, whose main activity is to study (71.6%), through the instruments: 1) Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales- DAAS-21 (Lovibond and Lovibond, 1995, 2) Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire-CUPI (Pulido-Rull, Escoto)de la Rosa, Gutiérrez-Valdovinos, 2011), and 3) Video Game Dependency Test (Choliz and Marco, 2011; Validation of Sánchez, Telumbre, Castillo and Silveira, 2020). The results were collected through the in-person application of these instruments, with prior informed consent. Extremely high levels of anxiety and depression and high levels of stress were found; These factors were related to excessive use of the Internet; specifically in aspects such as loss of control, recognition of the lack of control and evasion. In the sample studied, no serious psychological consequences were found regarding the use of video games. The implications of these results are discussed, as well as their limitations, and the importance of using appropriate intervention strategies that help people use new technologies in a healthy way to preserve their mental health. This is the report of a clinical case of a 50-year-old male doctor-patient who was infected with COVID-19 at the beginning of the pandemic, as the first patient was reported in March 2020 in Ecuador. Two months after this, the patient was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a Second Level Hospital, where at that time the treatments were experimental and to date there is no established treatment. The objective of the research is to analyze the experience of the patient who presents prolonged symptoms currently known as COVID long or prolonged COVID, and in its beginnings it was established with the name "Post-COVID syndrome", where it only focused on the cardiopulmonary sequelae, but psychological sequelae such as brain fog, which affects memory, psychiatric, neurological, musculoskeletal, urogenital, and dermal, were never taken into account. L'objectif principal de cette étude qualitative était d'explorer la relation à la sexualité des patientes atteintes d'une endométriose douloureuse. Seize femmes ont participé à un entretien semi-directif qui questionnait leur parcours avec la maladie, leur sexualité, la sphère émotionnelle ainsi que les stratégies de coping utilisées face aux potentielles difficultés. L'analyse thématique de l'ensemble des entretiens a permis de considérer l'impact des douleurs sur la sexualité des femmes atteintes d'endométriose. En effet, elles souffrent de difficultés sexuelles imputables au ressenti douloureux mais également à l'anticipation de cette même douleur. Les stratégies de coping mises en place ne permettent pas un mieux-être et provoquent un cercle vicieux de fixation émotionnelle et cognitive sur la douleur. Ces résultats nous amènent à repenser la prise en charge de la douleur et de davantage considérer l'impact de ce symptôme sur la sexualité des patientes. The main objective of this qualitative study was to explore the relationship to sexuality of patients with painful endometriosis. Sixteen women participated in a semi-structured interview that asked about their experience with the disease, their sexuality, the emotional sphere and the coping strategies they used to deal with potential difficulties. The thematic analysis of all the interviews enabled us to consider the impact of pain on the sexuality of women with endometriosis. Indeed, they suffer from sexual difficulties attributable to the feeling of pain but also to the anticipation of this same pain. The coping strategies put in place do not allow for a better well-being and provoke a vicious circle of emotional and cognitive fixation on the pain. As disorders of the gastrointestinal system are among the most prevalent, had a significant impact on patients’ quality of life (QoL). This study aimed to investigate the QoL of 83 patients treated in the surgical clinic of a regional general hospital in Crete-Greece. They recruited from April-to-June 2021 using the 36-Item Short Form Survey scale (SF-36) and the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the QoL in relation to patients’ characteristics. The 50.6% were men with mean age of all the 55.0 years. Mental Health was found with highest mean score in relation to Role Physical (p < 0.001) and the Mental Component higher than the Physical (p = 0.029) while 68.7% of patients had high State Anxiety score. For each added year of age, the odds ratio of a moderate-to-high Physical Component was significantly decreased (OR = 0.95, p = 0.012) as married/partnered patients had higher odds of a moderate-to-high Mental Component (OR = 6.59, p = 0.006). Those with high state anxiety had lower odds of a moderate-to-high Mental Component (OR = 0.16, p = 0.005). Action is necessary on a clinical or individual level, guided by health professionals, to promote appropriate dietary choices and interventions for the avoidance of behaviors that could harm or endanger patients’ health.

The novel nature of infection and exponential increase in cases add to the workload and psychological distress. Hence, assessing the psychological consequences and methods of coping in these HCWs is important. The detection can help in devising appropriate psychological interventions for them. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the psychological reactions, symptoms, and coping strategies of HCWs in COVID section of a tertiary hospital. Objectives: The objectives of this study were as follows: (1) to explore various psychological reactions, stressors, psychological symptoms, and coping skills of doctors, nurses, and support staff working in COVID section of a tertiary care hospital and (2) to correlate the psychological reactions, stressors, and psychological symptoms with sociodemographic factors. Methodology: This was a qualitative study. A total of 100 HCWs including doctors, nurses, and support staff working in COVID section of hospital were interviewed for psychological consequences and their coping strategies. Their narratives were coded into themes and analyzed. Statistical Analysis: Frequency and percentages for quantitative variables were used for statistical analysis. Chi-square test was used for correlation of qualitative variables. Results: The HCWs reported various psychological reactions of worries about their own health which was significant in HCWs in intensive care unit (χ2 = 12.35, P = 0.002) and had concern of nature of work, which was a significant concern in doctors (χ2 = 9.59, P = 0.008). The stressor of uncomfortable personal protective equipment was found to be reported more significantly by support staff (chi2 = 11.1, P = 0.03), and that of long and burdensome work reported more significantly by females (chi2 = 4.64, P = 0.03). They had prominent psychological symptoms of irritability significantly reported by doctors (χ2 = 9.91, P = 0.007), sleep disturbances significantly reported by unmarried (χ2 = 6.76, P = 0.009), and by nurses (χ2 = 9.7, P = 0.008). The most common coping strategies used were acceptance, problem-solving strategies, and communicating with family members and colleagues. Conclusion: The HCWs in COVID section had stressors with psychological reactions and symptoms and used various coping strategies to deal with them.

LGBT people experience specific types of prejudice often related to breaking gender role norms. The exclusion experienced by LGBT individuals results mostly from the discrimination they face in all aspects of their life, a discrimination which interfere with their ability to have and access equal rights. This lack of recognition impacts the deepest aspects of life – who to live with, raising children, how to relate as a gendered being, etc., but it also affects the various facets of their social and/or professional life. There is a great knowledge gap concerning these interpersonal processes in contemporary Romania, including the psychological consequences of stigmatization and prejudice for LGBT people. We aim to mention Romanian public attitudes, and secondly, to analyse the discrepancy of evolution between Norway and Romania of public attitudes toward LGBT people impacts the social inclusion of LGBT and their mental health status. The two countries are similar in terms of not incriminating homosexuality, but there is a profound discrepancy regarding the evolution of the social inclusion of LGBT persons.

The present systematic review study shows the available evidence of the psychological tools used for assessing in general terms the level of long-term psychological and emotional repercussions of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) in adulthood. The sample consisted of 26 original articles, with a total of 109 applied psychological instruments. We found that 85.33% of reviewed instruments evaluated potential clinical indicators and 14.67% corresponded to ad-hoc instruments, not validated and created by researchers to collect sociodemographic information referring to the CSA. In this review, we concluded that there is not a single methodology for the psychological evaluation of CSA in adulthood, the most widely extended methodology is the use of tools that allow the evaluation of psychological and emotional aspects present in the long-term problems. This review questions the complementarity of the use of instruments to delve into the problems that affect of victims of CSA.

Frontline healthcare workers (HCWs) looking after COVID‐19 patients are at high risk of developing mental health problems. Both preventive and interventional initiatives are essential, therefore, to maintain and improve the mental health of HCWs and ultimately to enhance the quality of care that they provide. This qualitative content analysis study, conducted in Iran between September 2020 and February 2021, involved the gathering of data on the issue through face‐to‐face interviews with 22 HCWs working directly with COVID‐19 patients. Data analysis led to the generation of 163 codes, 45 categories (16 risk factors and 29 consequences), and 9 themes. Overall, the results suggest that caring for a patient with COVID‐19 is associated with positive and negative psychological impacts. Measures such as increasing sensitivity to crisis situations, self‐adjustment skills training, and identifying signs of job burnout owing to moral conflicts can reduce or eliminate the risk of negative psychological consequences among HCWs. Introduction: Psychiatric issues, particularly depression and anxiety, have been observed in the proportions of patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. Such findings provide a window of opportunity for integrating intervention, targeting psychological components into post-Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) patient management to provide effective care. The Buteyko Breathing Technique (BBT), which is named after its inventor Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko, is one of the numerous breathing techniques that aims to regulate breathing. By alternating between periods of controlled breathing reduction and breath holding. Aim: To explore the effect of BBT as a psychological rehabilitation technique on anxiety, depression, and self-efficacy in post-CABG subjects having anxiety and depression. Materials and Methods: This randomised clinical trial was performed at Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Unit, Acharya Vinobha Bhave Rural Hospital, Sawangi, Wardha, Maharashtra, India, from June 2021 to May 2022. Total 44 post CABG patients who all screened positive for anxiety and depression by General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) were enrolled. They were randomly assigned using computed generated block randomisation. They were allocated using the Sequentially Numbered Opaque Sealed Envelope (SNOSE) method to group A Conventional group (n=22) and group B Experimental group (n=22). Both groups competed the in-hospital phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation as per American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab (AACVPR) guidelines, whereas group B received additional BBT for psychosocial rehabilitation for 2 weeks post surgery. The evaluations were performed using the GAD-7 questionnaire, PHQ-9, General Self-Efficiency Scale (GSS), Breath Holding Test (BHT), and Borg Rate of Perceived Exertion Scale (RPE), at baseline on Post Operative Day (POD)1 and at their last rehabilitation session. Patients in both groups were given self management and education hand-outs at the time of discharge. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27.0 was used for statistical analysis. Results: The mean age of patients in A-group was 59.72±7.84 years and in B-group 60.81±7.42 years, respectively. The age, gender, height, weight, and BMI of the patients were similar between the groups. On intra group comparison, there was statistically significant difference observed for GAD-7, PHQ-9, GSS, BHT, and RPE in group A and group B following the intervention, but the change was more pronounced in group B. The results for the inter group comparison showed a significant difference in group B on Anxiety, Depression, self-efficacy, BHT, and RPE as compared to the group A, i.e. group B showed a larger improvement in outcome measure scores than group A. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that On intra group weeks of BBT along with phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation in post CABG patients brings favourable changes in levels of anxiety, depression and self-efficacy. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic and its related social restrictions have profoundly affected people's mental health. It can be assumed that symptomatic behaviors and mental health of individuals with eating disorders (ED) deteriorated during this time. To get a thorough overview, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis with the following aims: First, to provide a comprehensive overview of symptoms of ED during the COVID-19-related confinement; second, to identify psychological mechanisms which impacted the emergence and maintenance of ED symptoms; third, to describe changes of daily routine and changes of access to healthcare in individuals with ED during confinement. Methods: We searched Embase, PubMed, and Scopus databases for observational studies published between January 1st, 2020, to July 1st, 2021, which investigated the symptomatology of ED during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: After the screening, 13 studies with 7848 participants were included in the present systematic review and meta-analysis. The overall pooled prevalence of exacerbation of binge eating, food restriction, purging behaviors, and concerns about food intake in the pooled sample of 7848 was 59.65% (95% CI: 49.30%; 69.60%), and the overall prevalence of improved symptoms of ED in the pooled sample of 741 individuals was 9.37% (95% CI: 3.92%; 16.57%). Furthermore, COVID-19-related social restrictions negatively impacted the psychological health, daily routines, and physical activity of individuals with ED. More specifically, symptoms of anxiety and depression related to ED were increased significantly over time. However, there were also positive aspects to the COVID-19 pandemic. The main positive consequences included more emotional support from the family, less pressure to engage in social activities, and more flexible meal planning. Individuals with ED reported having difficulties getting access to healthcare centers and using telemedicine. They also found a hard time communicating via online sessions. Conclusions: According to our interpretation, based on the data included in the systematic review and meta-analysis, the COVID-19 pandemic and its related social restrictions detrimentally impacted the mental health of majority of individuals with ED. Limited and impaired access to healthcare interventions appeared to have further exacerbated mental health issues of individuals with ED. Given this background, it seems that individuals with ED demand more attention during the COVID-19 crisis, and it is necessary to ensure that their course of treatment remains uninterrupted. Plain English summary: The COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent lockdowns have significantly impacted people's mental health and mental status worldwide. Remarkably, people with pre-existing illnesses (e.g., eating disorders) were affected by the COVID-19-related restrictions. Informal employment emerges and intensifies as industrialization and urbanization increased, leading to a lack of labor support. Starting with the expansion of urbanization and the creation of the informal economy, it is already remarkable to examine this issue from an economic point of view. Informality is one of the most important problems in the country's economy. This issue, in addition to affecting the personal life of the worker, including various aspects such as mentality and family, has important managerial/organizational, economic and social messages, so that it might be necessary to further define this field. This research has been done in identifying unofficial negative consequences and its method is descriptive-survey. The statistical sample of the research includes experts in related fields. Theme and Delphi analysis methods were used to analyze the data. The general results of the research indicate that its messages are identified at different levels of economic, managerial, social and psychological. To better understand the results of the research, the identified messages in the network of topics are also provided.

Introduction: Psychiatric issues, particularly depression and anxiety, have been observed in the proportions of patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery.Such findings provide a window of opportunity for integrating intervention, targeting psychological components into post-Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) patient management to provide effective care. The Buteyko Breathing Technique (BBT), which is named after its inventor Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko, is one of the numerous breathing techniques that aims to regulate breathing. By alternating between periods of controlled breathing reduction and breath holding. Aim: To explore the effect of BBT as a psychological rehabilitation technique on anxiety, depression, and self-efficacy in post-CABG subjects having anxiety and depression. Materials and Methods: This randomised clinical trial was performed at Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Unit, Acharya Vinobha Bhave Rural Hospital, Sawangi, Wardha, Maharashtra, India, from June 2021 to May 2022. Total 44 post CABG patients who all screened positive for anxiety and depression by General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) were enrolled. They were randomly assigned using computed generated block randomisation. They were allocated using the Sequentially Numbered Opaque Sealed Envelope (SNOSE) method to group A Conventional group (n=22) and group B Experimental group (n=22). Both groups competed the in-hospital phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation as per American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab (AACVPR) guidelines, whereas group B received additional BBT for psychosocial rehabilitation for 2 weeks post surgery. The evaluations were performed using the GAD-7 questionnaire, PHQ-9, General Self-Efficiency Scale (GSS), Breath Holding Test (BHT), and Borg Rate of Perceived Exertion Scale (RPE), at baseline on Post Operative Day (POD)1 and at their last rehabilitation session. Patients in both groups were given self management and education hand-outs at the time of discharge. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27.0 was used for statistical analysis. Results: The mean age of patients in A-group was 59.72±7.84 years and in B-group 60.81±7.42 years, respectively. The age, gender, height, weight, and BMI of the patients were similar between the groups. On intra group comparison ,there was statistically significant difference observed for GAD-7, PHQ-9, GSS, BHT, and RPE in group A and group B following the intervention, but the change was more pronounced in group B. The results for the inter group comparison showed a significant difference in group B on Anxiety, Depression, self-efficacy, BHT, and RPE as compared to the group A, i.e. group B showed a larger improvement in outcome measure scores than group A. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that On intra group weeks of BBT along with phase 1 cardiac rehabilitation in post CABG patients brings favourable changes in levels of anxiety, depression and self-efficacy.

Introduction: A high-risk job, firefighting involves a wide range of tasks. Given the difficult nature of the job with all the responsibilities included, and in addition to the impending physical injuries, firefighters undergo several emergencies which can endanger their psychological health. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the psychological consequences of firefighters' work conditions. Materials and Methods: The research method was qualitative and phenomenological. Using the purposeful sampling method, 16 firefighters were selected from fire stations across the city of Kerman, Iran; saturation criteria were used in the selection of participants. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Colaizzi’s seven-step method. In this way, first, the interviews were coded, and then based on the similarity of codes, 4 main categories were extracted. Results: results showed that persistent stress (caused by the sound of fire alarms and announcement of fire emergencies, trying to make it to the scene on time, worrying about not being on time, and not finding the address of the incidents, complications, and uncertainties of the incidents), sleep problems (these include sleep disturbances, insomnia, difficulty maintaining sleep, startled waking up, somniloquy), negative emotions reminiscent of painful events, and difficulty in establishing good relationships with family members, are the most important psychological consequences that firefighters faced due to their working conditions. Conclusion: Considering the important role of firefighters in providing services in emergencies, the psychological consequences of this job are risk factors that harm the health and the performance of firefighters. Therefore, appropriate measures and planning need to be taken to manage and reduce ongoing stress and improve the quality of firefighters' sleep. To manage and reduce negative emotions and their family problems, appropriate training should be provided.

The rising growth of integrating technology into education affects the psychological structure of students, especially their technophobia and technophilia levels, playing a vital role in their adaptation to new technology, bridging the digital divide, and achieving sustainable development goals. Despite such influence, research lacks diagnostic theses among Arabian undergraduates. This study is the first to assess technophobia and technophilia levels according to countries among Jordanian, Egyptian, and Qatari undergraduates. The quantitative research approach and a crossnational research design, with a web-based questionnaire, are adopted to explore the technophobia and technophilia levels of Arabian undergraduates and investigate them concerning the country. Additionally, A stratified multistage clustered random sampling is recruited. The study sample comprised 1081 undergraduates; from Egypt (400), Jordan (375), and Qatar (301). The data were collected in September of the academic year 2021–2022 using the Technophobia and Technophilia Questionnaire. The results demonstrated a moderate level of technophilia among Arabian undergraduates. Moreover, according to country, the ANCOVA test confirmed a non-significant (p>.05) difference in technophilia levels. Notably, a significant (p<.05) difference exists in technophobia levels according to country. The results of the Scheffe test demonstrated that Qatari undergraduates were less technophobic than Jordanian and Egyptian undergraduates. This study’s implications can inform the government, especially policy-makers in education and sustainable development planners, to pay attention to undergraduates’ technophilia and technophobia concerns and plan strategies and policies for encouraging technology adaptation and managing technophobia and technophilia constructs. Introduction: Coronavirus disease‐2019 (COVID‐19) is a new viral disease that has spread rapidly worldwide since December 2019 and there is no effective treatment for it. The current study aimed to investigate the psychological consequences and related factors among COVID‐19 survivors. Methods: This descriptive analytical study was conducted on 152 patients with COVID‐19 referred to referral hospitals in southeastern Iran in 2020. Data collection tools were three questionnaires of demographic and background information, Depression Anxiety stress Scale (DASS‐21) and Impact of Events Scale‐Revised (IESR). Descriptive and inferential statistics and SPSS25 were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean age of patients was 39.52 ± 13.16 years. The patients were mostly female (63.8%). Seventy‐three percent of the patients had severe posttraumatic stress disorder, 26.3% had moderate depression and 26.3% had severe anxiety. The mean scores of posttraumatic stress, depression, and anxiety among patients with COVID‐19 were 41.59 ± 17.28, 12.13 ± 9.16, and 12.45 ± 10.71, respectively. Intensive care unit (ICU) admission, divorce, illiteracy, and retirement were all associated with higher psychological load among patients. Discussion and Conclusion: The results showed that patients with COVID‐19 had different levels of anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress. These results may direct the attention of the medical staff to the mental health of COVID‐19 patients, necessitating timely psychological care and intervention during an epidemic. This study examines the prevalence and characteristics of sexual victimization experiences suffered by people with intellectual disabilities (ID). The sample consisted of 260 adults with an ID diagnosis (154 men and 106 women), ranging in age from 20 to 71 years (M = 41.69, SD = 12.05). The results showed that 35% of the sample had been sexually victimized at some point in their life. Being a woman, being declared legally incapable, and having comorbid mental health diagnoses were the most relevant characteristics of sexual victims with ID. Fondling was the most reported victimization, and rape showed the greatest gender differences, with a higher risk for women with ID of being raped compared to their male counterparts (odds ratio = 4.28, p <.05). The offender was generally a known male adult, and the percentage of incidents reported to the authorities was very low (7.4%). The psychological consequences of abuse were general distress, anxiety, and depressive symptomatology. Intervention and prevention programs targeting this population, as well as the training of professionals and caregivers, are essential to deal with sexual victimization and to protect and ensure the quality of life of people with ID. Background: Context-specific measures with adequate external validity are needed to appropriately determine psychosocial effects related to screening for cognitive impairment., Methods: Two-hundred adults aged ≥65 y recently completing routine, standardized cognitive screening as part of their Medicare annual wellness visit were administered an adapted version of the Psychological Consequences of Screening Questionnaire (PCQ), composed of negative (PCQ-Neg) and positive (PCQ-Pos) scales. Measure distribution, acceptability, internal consistency, factor structure, and external validity (construct, discriminative, criterion) were analyzed., Results: Participants had a mean age of 73.3 y and were primarily female and socioeconomically advantaged. Most had a normal cognitive screening result (99.5%, n  = 199). Overall PCQ scores were low (PCQ-Neg: x ¯ = 1.27, possible range 0-36; PCQ-Pos: x ¯ = 7.63, possible range 0-30). Both scales demonstrated floor effects. Acceptability was satisfactory, although the PCQ-Pos had slightly more item missingness. Both scales had Cronbach alphas >0.80 and a single-factor structure. Spearman correlations between the PCQ-Neg with general measures of psychological distress (Impacts of Events Scale-Revised, Perceived Stress Scale, Kessler Distress Scale) ranged from 0.26 to 0.37 ( P 's < 0.001); the correlation with the World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index was -0.19 ( P  < 0.01). The PCQ-Neg discriminated between those with and without a self-reported subjective cognitive complaint ( x ¯ = 2.73 v. 0.89, P  < 0.001) and was associated with medical visit satisfaction ( r  = -0.24, P  < 0.001) on the Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire. The PCQ-Pos predicted self-reported willingness to engage in future screening ( x ¯ = 8.00 v. 3.00, P  = 0.03)., Conclusions: The adapted PCQ-Neg is an overall valid measure of negative psychological consequences of cognitive screening; findings for the PCQ-Pos were more variable. Given the results, the athletes are worried about catching the coronavirus, but lack of statistically significant results in the relationship of the variables used in the research with the anxiety of contracting the coronavirus, the geographical region where the athletes live, the supervision of the measures taken within the scope of the coronavirus can be considered as the psychological consequences of the social environment.

The case of a second year medicine student is presented, assisted in the Student Orientation Unit of Medicine Faculty No. 1 in the University of Medical Sciences from Santiago de Cuba, between September and December, 2021, due to academic problems and stress manifestations because she was victim of verbal and psychological harassment by her groupmates as a result of an act of sexting by her couple. Climate change is a worldwide challenge. Its consequences do encompass severe threats not only for the existence and somatic health, but also for the mental health of children and adolescents. Mental health can be impaired by three types of consequences. Direct consequences of climate change, such as natural disasters and indirect consequences, such as loss of land, flight and migration, exposure to violence, change of social, ecological, economic or cultural environment. Moreover, the increasing awareness of the existential dimension of climate change in children and adolescents can influence their well-being or challenge their mental health. Consequences of climate change for somatic health may interact with mental health or have psychological sequelae in children and adolescents. Based on the estimates by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, we have summarized current data on these differential pathways as to how climate change affects the mental health of children worldwide through selective literature research on Pubmed. Mental health sequelae of direct and indirect consequences of climate change, increased awareness and physical health problems caused by climate change are presented. We give insights into special vulnerabilities of children and adolescents and identify high-risk groups. As the "Fridays for Future" movement has been initiated in northern Europe, we will discuss these results with a focus on children and adolescents in Europe. The results indicate that climate change is a serious threat to children and adolescent mental health. Children´s rights, mental health and climate change should not continue to be seen as separate points; instead, they need to be brought together to address this major challenge determining the future of our children and their descendants. Background: Scientific literature on posttraumatic growth (PTG) after terrorist attacks has primarily focused on persons who had not been directly exposed to terrorist attacks or persons who had been directly exposed to them, but who were assessed few months or years after the attacks. Methods: We examined long-term PTG in 210 adults directly exposed to terrorist attacks in Spain a mean of 29.6 years after the attacks (range: 2–47 years). The participants had been injured by a terrorist attack (38.6%) or were first-degree relatives of people who had been killed or injured by a terrorist attack (41.4% and 20%, respectively). They completed diagnostic measures of emotional disorders and measures of PTSD and depression symptomatology, optimism, and PTG. Results: Multiple regression analyses revealed gender differences (women reported higher levels of PTG than did men) and a positive linear relationship between PTG and cumulative trauma after the terrorist attack. Some PTG dimensions were significantly associated with PTSD symptomatology, these associations being linear, not curvilinear. However, PTG was not associated with depression symptomatology, diagnosis of emotional disorders, age, elapsed time since the attack, or optimism. In comparison with survivors assessed 18 years after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, Spanish victims of terrorism showed higher levels of appreciation of life, but lower levels of relating to others and spiritual change. Conclusion: The findings underscore the influence of gender on PTG and provide support to the hypothesis that some emotional distress may be a necessary condition of PTG. Future studies on PTG after terrorist attacks should take into consideration the characteristics of the terrorist attack itself and the contexts of violence and threat in which it occurred. The political, social, and cultural characteristics of the community affected by it and the profile and characteristics of other traumatic events suffered after the attack should also be taken into account in further research. Introduction: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a global threat and has affected physical as well as mental health adversely. There had been an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases in India from May to October 2020. Isolation, hospitalization, and stigmatization were significant issues in COVID-19 crisis. The literature is sparse on the mental health effects on hospitalized COVID-19 patients. This study aimed to describe the psychological consequences and coping strategies of COVID-19 patients admitted to tertiary health-care hospital. The objectives were (1) to assess the psychological consequences in COVID-19 patients admitted to our hospital, (2) to assess the coping strategies in these COVID-19 patients, and (3) to find correlations of sociodemographic characteristics, psychological consequences, and coping strategies of these COVID-19 patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional qualitative study, 100 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 infection participated. In-depth interviews were conducted using semi-structured questionnaire. The narratives were coded into themes and correlations of variables generated were done using Chi-square test. Results: The most common themes about the psychological state of patients were loneliness and isolation (56%), adjustment issues in the hospital (54%), and concerns about family members (32%). Patients who had family members also suffering from COVID-19 illness (24%) had more concerns about their health (Chi-square 25.209, P = 0.00) and had worries of their future (Chi-square 7.023, P = 0.008). Females had more worries about family members (Chi-square 16.295, P = 0.00) and had more concerns about their own health (Chi-square 5.71, P = 0.01). The most common coping strategies used by patients were digital communication with family members (82%), distraction (58%), and communicating with other co-patients (30%) to deal with their psychological distress. Conclusion: COVID-19 infection leads to psychological distress due to multiple factors. Timely interventions with support for effective coping mechanisms can help in alleviating the distress.
