Background: The climate crisis is increasingly leading to negative consequences for mental health and is of growing importance for psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care. Objective: The effects of the climate crisis on mental health and its significance for psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care are presented. Recommendations for sustainability in psychiatric and psychotherapeutic practice are provided. Material and methods: A narrative review of the literature was conducted for this article. Results: The climate crisis has direct, indirect and intersectional negative effects on mental health. Sustainable and preventive recommendations for the practice include promoting health literacy, faster access to psychotherapy and online counselling, supporting social networks, promoting employment and reducing poverty, homelessness and social isolation. It is recommended to increase the proportion of outpatient care and to streamline administrative processes. The use of disposable products should be minimized and the application of instrumental diagnostics and materials should be optimized according to guidelines. Digital interventions should be considered more frequently in the clinical practice and sustainable facility management should be improved. Access to green spaces for the general population and patients should be facilitated. Emotions play an important role in fostering positive parenting and healthy child development. This qualitative study explored the affective experiences of racially diverse US fathers with low income across the prenatal, postnatal, and early childhood periods. Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with 24 fathers. Interview questions asked about fathers' early parenting experiences that elicit parenting emotions of different valence. Results from thematic analysis demonstrated activation of multiple emotions depending on different proximal and distal experiences. Specific to proximal experiences, fathers reported feeling both excited and anxious about pregnancy and joyful and disappointed at childbirth. Related to distal experiences, fathers reported feeling encouraged by their social support networks that further aid their parenting, but feeling marginalized given systematic barriers (e.g., societal bias, high incarceration rates of Black fathers). Most importantly, fathers' parenting emotions, especially negative ones, led to them resolving to stay involved in their children's lives, gaining a sense of responsibility, and changing behaviors to do right by their children. Fathers resorted to various coping strategies to regulate their negative emotions. Overall, fathers with low income are emotionally resilient. Infant and early childhood health professionals should support fathers' mental health to promote father‐child engagement and thus, ultimately, young children's mental health and wellbeing. Background: Care in the intensive care unit (ICU) often introduces symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (post-ICU PTSD) in individuals with prior adverse experiences. General practitioners play an important role in follow-up care. Case report: A 58-year-old woman developed post-ICU PTSD symptoms after she experienced sepsis. She received brief narrative exposure therapy (NET) from her general practitioner and experienced significant improvement of symptoms. Conclusion: A brief version of NET might be appropriate for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate post-ICU PTSD symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Communimetric screening tools help clinicians identify and communicate their patient's areas of need and the corresponding level of action. However, few tools exist to identify mental health (MH) and developmental needs in young children. We aimed to implement and evaluate a new communimetric MH and developmental screening tool for children under 6 (HEADS‐ED Under 6) in a community MH agency in Ontario, Canada. Using a prospective cohort design, we explored how intake workers used the HEADS‐ED Under 6 screening tool from November 2019 to March 2021. 94.5% of children (n = 535/566) were screened with the HEADS‐ED at intake. Total HEADS‐ED scores and domains were used to inform the intensity of recommended services. Three clinical domains (Eating & sleeping, Development, speech/language/motor, and Emotions & behaviors) also independently predicted a priority recommendation. The tool showed good concordance with the InterRAI Early Years for children under 4 years old. The HEADS‐ED Under 6 was a brief, easy, and valid screening tool, and can be used to identify important MH and developmental domains early, rate level of action/impairment, communicate severity of needs, and help determine intensity of service required. Das Konzept der organisationalen Gesundheitskompetenz (OGK) wird im beruflichen Kontext mittlerweile als protektiver Faktor zur Förderung der Arbeitsfähigkeit und Verbesserung der physischen und psychischen Gesundheit von Gesundheitsfachpersonen diskutiert. Ziel des Beitrags ist es, die Ergebnisse einer bundesweiten Onlinebefragung von Leitungspersonen im Gesundheitswesen (Krankenhaus, Einrichtungen der Pflege und Eingliederungshilfe) zum Zusammenhang zwischen der persönlichen Gesundheitskompetenz (GK) und dem Ausmaß der OGK mit jeweiligen Outcomes der Arbeitsfähigkeit und Gesundheit darzustellen. 22,9% der befragten Leitungspersonen weisen eine geringe persönliche GK auf, während über die Hälfte (50,3%) ein unterdurchschnittliches Ausmaß der OGK in ihrer Einrichtung angibt. Leitungspersonen mit geringer persönlicher GK in ihrer Einrichtung weisen ein erhöhtes Risiko für eine schlechte physische (OR: 2,16, 95% KI:1,33-3,51) und psychische Arbeitsfähigkeit (OR: 1,89, 95% KI: 1,25-2,86) sowie ein erhöhtes Burnout-Risiko (OR: 1,57, 95% KI: 1,05-2,35) auf. Das Ausmaß der OGK ist signifikant mit der physischen (OR: 1,65, 95% KI: 1,05-2,60) und psychischen Arbeitsfähigkeit (OR: 1,82, 95% KI: 1,25-2,67) sowie mit dem Burnout-Risiko (OR: 1,46, 95% KI: 1,05-2,03) assoziiert. Die Ergebnisse verdeutlichen den Mehrwert, nicht nur in die persönliche, sondern auch in die organisationale GK von Leitungspersonen zu investieren, um sowohl die GK als auch (gesundheitsbezogene) Outcomes auf Mitarbeitenden-Ebene zu stärken.

In recent decades, two processes have been crucial for the development of psychotherapy regulation, which are interlinked and mutually reinforcing: efforts to legalise psychotherapy as an autonomous profession, and efforts to academise psychotherapy as an autonomous scientific discipline. While in Europe the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) plays a key role in efforts to legalise psychotherapy as an autonomous profession, the academisation of psychotherapy in the twentieth century started at postgraduate level, then, after the Bologna reform, at Masters and Doctoral level and, since 2005 also at undergraduate level, first in Austria and then in Slovenia and Germany. Based on brief descriptions of the regulation of psychotherapy in some European countries – Germany, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Malta and Croatia – it is pointed out that concern for equitable access to psychotherapy and its quality for those in need of such kind of help must be a key criterion and goal in efforts to regulate psychotherapy. The international comparison also shows that psychotherapy will survive but not flourish if it remains only in the hands of doctors and psychologists as a method or specialisation. We assessed prevalence and correlates of differential maternal‐infant bonding (i.e., experiencing a stronger bond with one baby vs. the other) in mothers of twins, focusing on aspects of maternal mental health, well‐being, and pregnancy/birth that have been previously linked with maternal‐infant bonding. Participants (N = 108 American women, 88.89% White, 82.41% non‐Hispanic, aged 18–45, who gave birth to twins in the past 6–24 weeks) were recruited from postpartum support websites. Participants completed a Qualtrics survey assessing pregnancy/birth history, symptoms of depression and anxiety, sleep, stress, romantic relationship satisfaction, and postpartum bonding. Twenty‐six participants (24.07%) reported a bonding discrepancy. These participants endorsed higher symptoms of depression and anxiety, lower relationship satisfaction, lower average postpartum bonding, higher general and parenting stress, and longer pregnancy (all ps >.05). Greater degree of bonding discrepancy correlated with more depression, higher parenting stress, longer pregnancy, and lower relationship satisfaction (all ps >.05). Mothers of twins may benefit from postpartum mental health support, stress management strategies, and interventions to improve bonding. Future work should assess the role of breastfeeding difficulties, delivery method, birth‐related trauma, infant regulatory capacity, and temperament. Abstract:Aims: Opioid misuse is an epidemic in the United States and globally, with adolescents affected by negative consequences including overdoses and deaths. Understanding how mental health and substance use relate to specific types of opioid use is thus important. Methods: Data from the 2019 Connecticut Youth Risk Behavior Survey were analyzed. Chi squares and adjusted odds ratios were computed to relate demographic variables, mental health, and substance use measures to misuse of prescription pain medications with and without heroin use, as compared to neither. Results: Among 1,931 high-school respondents, 8.8 % (n=180) reported prescription pain medication misuse (PPMM+), and 1.4 % (n=28) also reported using heroin (PPMM/HU+). PPMM+ was associated with being female while PPMM/HU+ was associated with being non-White and male. Poorer mental health was associated with PPMM+, and suicidality measures were strongly related to PPMM/HU+. Use of other substances was reported with PPMM+ and PPMM/HU+, with use of vapor products, including on school grounds, particularly linked to the latter. Conclusions: PPMM+ and PPMM/HU+ are associated with suicidality and substance use among adolescents, with suicidality particularly related to PPMM/HU+. Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, is a practice that involves immersion in forest environments to improve health and well-being, associated with stress reduction, immune system strengthening and mood enhancement. The aim of the present analysis is to quantify and evaluate scientific output, map collaboration among researchers, as well as identify prolific and prominent researchers, identify prolific journals, and analyze thematic trends. The set of 285 documents was extracted from the Web of Science, processed with Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer programs, and the analysis was performed following the traditional rules of bibliometrics. The number of publications show exponential growth, demonstrating the interest of the scientific community. The core of prolific journals is composed of only two journals, and the most prominent author is M. Yoshifumi from Chiba University (47 articles and 2208 citations). Japan and South Korea stand out as the most prolific countries. The researchers focus on the positive effects of forest bathing on mental health, especially in mitigating symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hintergrund – Forschungsergebnisse zeigen, dass funktionelle Beschwerden durch körperliche, psychosoziale und verhaltensbezogene Aspekte beeinflusst werden können. Im Bereich der Osteopathie ist die Symptombelastung von Patient*innen aus einer mehrdimensionalen Perspektive nicht ausreichend untersucht. Methodik – Im Rahmen einer Fragebogenstudie mit 2 Durchläufen wurden in der Lehrpraxis der OSD Berlin Patient*innen befragt. Auf Basis des 1. Durchlaufes (n = 121) wurde die Häufigkeit erfüllter Cut-off-Kriterien für Angst und Depression (HADS-D) berechnet und die Verteilung auf die Schweregrade chronischer Schmerzen (CPG) bestimmt. Für den 2. Durchlauf (n = 167) wurden Mittelwerte der biopsychosozialen Belastung (KPD-38) berechnet. Anhand von Cut-off-Kriterien für SSS-8 und SSD-12 wurde ein Screening für die somatische Belastungsstörung des DSM-5 durchgeführt. Des Weiteren wurden Korrelationsprüfungen zwischen ausgewählten psychosozialen, verhaltensbezogenen und körperlichen Skalen sowie der Symptomdauer und dem Lebensalter durchgeführt. Ergebnisse – Die aktuellen Körperbeschwerden bestanden im Durchschnitt 5,6 Jahre (Median: 3 Jahre). Durch Müdigkeit oder Energiemangel fühlten sich die Studienteilnehmer*innen am häufigsten stark bis sehr stark beeinträchtigt (29,4 %), gefolgt von Schmerzen des Rückens (28,2 %) und der Extremitäten (17,4 %). 12,6 % der Studienteilnehmer*innen erfüllen die Kriterien der somatischen Belastungsstörung des DSM-5. Es wurden signifikante Zusammenhänge zwischen Faktoren der psychosozialen bzw. verhaltensbezogenen und der körperlichen Beeinträchtigungsdimension gezeigt. 22,3 % der Personen im 1. Durchlauf zeigten eine klare Angstproblematik und die Angst-Cut-off-Kriterien wurden mit steigendem Grad der Schmerzchronifizierung häufiger erfüllt. Background – Research results show that functional somatic disorders are subject to biological, psychological and behavioural influences. In the field of osteopathy, the symptom burden of patients has not been sufficiently studied from a multidimensional perspective. Methods – As part of a questionnaire study with two runs, patients in the osteopathic teaching practice of OSD Berlin were surveyed. Based on the first run (n = 121), the frequency of fulfilled cut-off criteria for anxiety and depression (HADS-D) was calculated and the distribution to the severity levels of chronic pain (CPG) was determined. For the second run (n = 167), average values for biopsychosocial stress (KPD-38) were calculated. Screening for somatic stress disorder according DSM-V was performed by using cut-off criteria for SSS-8 and SSD-12. Moreover, a correlation test was carried out between selected psychosocial, behavioural and physical scales as well as the duration of symptoms and the age. Results – The current physical complaints persisted for an average of about 5.6 years (median – 3 years). The study participants most often feel severely to very severely impaired by fatigue or lack of energy (29.4 %), followed by back pain (28.2 %) and pain in the extremities (17.4 %). 12.6 % of the study participants met the criteria for somatic stress disorder. Significant correlations were shown between factors of the psychosocial or behavioural dimension and the physical impairment dimension. Furthermore, 22,3 % of the first run showed a clear anxiety issue and the anxiety cut-off-criteria were met more frequently with an increasing degree of pain chronification. Conclusion – The results indicate that the patients in the osteopathic teaching practice mainly suffer from chronic complaints that manifest themselves on a physical as well as on a psychosocial and behavioural level, and that there are clear connections across these levels. For some time, the health-related consequences that publicly shaped representations of age and aging can have with regard to individual actions or the experience of personal aging have been discussed. The focus here is particularly on media representations of old age. However, up to now there have been hardly any reliable studies that investigate the effects that old age images can have on recipients. A multi-method series of studies confronted older people with prototypical age frames and anticipated consequences for old age and mental health. The results prove that the reception of a negative age frame leads to an improvement in the self-image of older people. On the other hand, the reception of the positive age frame leads to a deterioration in self-image. Accordingly, media representations of age show complex and apparently paradoxical effects. For example, there are negative effects on older people‘s perceptions of themselves and old age if the portrayal of age is unilaterally positive.
