INTRODUCTION: California is home to the largest population of Armenians in the United States. The historical categorization of Armenians as White or Some Other Race in population databases has likely masked cancer incidence patterns in this population. This is the first study considering cancer incidence among Armenians in California. METHODS: We used the Armenian Surname List and birthplace information in the California Cancer Registry to identify Armenians with cancer diagnosed during 1988-2019. We calculated proportional incidence ratios (PIR) among Armenians compared with non-Hispanic Whites (NHWs). As an exploratory analysis, we calculated incidence rate ratios (IRR) during 2006-2015 using Armenian population denominators from the American Community Survey (ACS). We selected PIR as our primary method given uncertainty regarding the use of ACS population estimates for rate calculations. RESULTS: There were 27,212 cancer diagnoses among Armenians in California, 13,754 among males and 13,458 among females. Armenian males had notably higher proportions of stomach (PIR = 2.39), thyroid (PIR = 1.45), and tobacco-related cancers including bladder (PIR = 1.53), colorectal (PIR = 1.29), and lung (PIR = 1.16) cancers. Higher proportional incidence of cancers including stomach (PIR = 3.24), thyroid (PIR = 1.47), and colorectal (PIR = 1.29) were observed among Armenian females. Exploratory IRR analyses showed higher stomach (IRR = 1.78), bladder (IRR = 1.13), and colorectal (IRR = 1.12) cancers among Armenian males and higher stomach (IRR = 2.54) cancer among Armenian females. CONCLUSION: We observed higher stomach, colorectal and thyroid cancer incidence among males and females, and tobacco-related cancers among males. Further research is needed to refine Armenian population estimates and understand and address risk factors associated with specific cancers among Armenians in California.

Objectives: To examine the distribution, clinical characteristics, and management of priapism in a Saudi Arabian tertiary care setting to provide a regional perspective. Subjects and Methods: This retrospective chart review included 29 male patients presenting with priapism at a tertiary care hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from January 2011 to June 2023. Data were collected on patient demographics, clinical presentation, treatment modalities, and outcomes. Results: The study found recurrent episodes of priapism in many patients, with a significant number associated with hematological diseases, notably sickle cell disease. Most treatments involved non-surgical methods. A notable finding was the correlation between the duration of priapism episodes and the likelihood of hospital admissions, suggesting that prolonged episodes often required more extensive medical attention. Conclusions: Priapism often presents as a chronic and recurrent condition requiring personalized management strategies. This study emphasizes the importance of recognizing regional occurrence patterns to enhance the management of priapism and suggests a need for further research in regions where this condition is less common. The reuse of construction and demolition waste (CDW) is of great significance for the reasonable treatment of urban waste and the protection of soil. CDW fines less than 10 mm in size were used to explore the application in improving clay loam soil and as plant-growing media. Four sizes of CDW were mixed with clay loam soil in three mass proportions to plant 1-year-old Duranta repens seedlings with clay loam soil (C1) and 100% CDW fines (C2) as the controls. CDW fines application increased net carbon assimilation, leaf size, leaf nutrients, and plant growth with the best addition of 3–6 mm size and 35% mass proportion (T5) for clay loam. The branch number and leaf area in 3–6 mm group were 32.8% and 263.9% higher than those in C1, and 110.8% and 374.2% higher than those in C2. On average, the assimilation rate in T5 was 43.8% higher than that in the controls, while the respiration rate was 44.6% lower, indicating that plants in the T5 fixed more carbon. We suggest that CDW fines have the potential to be plant cultivation substrate and the addition ratio depends on the soil property. Trace elements are the essential mineral nutrients in grassland, however, we still know little about the distributions of trace elements in grassland with long‐term grazing exclusion. The contents, stocks, and proportions of iron (Fe), aluminum (Al), manganese (Mn), and boron (B) in green plant‐litter‐root‐soil were evaluated by enclosing for 18, and 39 years inside the fence (F18 and F39) and grazing outside the fence (F0) in Inner Mongolia grassland. The results showed that F18 and F39 decreased the stocks of Fe, Al, and Mn in green plant and root compared to F0 (p <.05), while increased the stocks of them in litter (p <.05). The stock of Fe, Al, and Mn in green plant at F39 was 28.6%, 13.9%, and 39.2% higher than that at F18. The stocks of four trace elements in first layer litter at F39 were increased by 12.7%–52.2% compared to F18, whereas the stocks of them in third layer litter were decreased by 32.2%–42.5%. The F18 obviously increased the stocks of Fe and Mn in soil, especially B (p <.05). While the stocks of these trace elements in soil at F39 were 9.1%–28.0% lower than that at F18, especially B (p <.05). In conclusion, the trace elements were mainly shifted from green plant and root to soil and third layer litter with 18‐year grazing exclusion. Background: In resource-limited countries, older people who are at risk and face numerous health problems, often receive insufficient attention regarding their healthcare-seeking behavior. Assessing the proportion of healthcare-seeking behavior and associated factors among older people in Motta town, was the aim of the study. Method: A community-based cross-sectional study was carried out from April 22 to May 22, 2023. The study subjects were chosen using a systematic random sampling technique. To identify candidate variables for multivariable analysis, a bivariable logistic regression analysis was performed. Variables having a P-value of < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: From the total, 161 (39.3%) of respondents had good healthcare-seeking behavior with 95% CI [35%, 44%]. Secondary school [AOR = 2.69, 95% CI = 1.27, 5.68], Education college and above [AOR = 4.6, 95% CI = 2.27, 9.33], Family support during their illness [AOR = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.05, 3.09], Members of CBHI [AOR = 2.02, 95% CI = 1.21, 3.36], and presence of chronic illness [AOR = 2.55, 95%, CI = 1.64, 3.97] were significantly associated with good healthcare-seeking behavior. Conclusion and recommendation: This study found that good healthcare-seeking behavior among older people is significantly associated with higher education, strong family support, Community-Based Health Insurance (CBHI) membership, and chronic illnesses. Improving health literacy through education, strengthening family support systems, expanding CBHI participation for better healthcare access, and developing targeted chronic disease management programs to enhance this behavior is recommended. This research delves into the influence of St. Augustine on the construction of the Gothic cathedral of Tortosa. The canonical cathedral of Tortosa underwent re-establishment in 1155, which was carried out by Bishop Godfrey who was the abbot of Saint Rufus of Avignon and was governed by Beati Augustini rule. The presence of St. Augustine in the Capitular archives with De Civitate Dei (ACTo-20) from the XII century is examined. This, coupled with a spatial analysis of the liturgical space using laser scanning (TLS), serves to validate the historiographical thesis put forth by Wilhelm Worringer, Erwin Panofsky, and Otto von Simson for understanding the construction of the apse of the Gothic cathedral (1346–1441). This methodology establishes a bijection between patristic and Neoplatonic sources and the interpretation of the liturgical space's dimensions using statistical systems. This approach addresses the construction of the apse through the incorporation of a heptagon, a geometric figure that is absent in Euclid's Elementa and Ptolemy's Almagest. In conclusion, it is determined that both the imagery and metrics employed in the design of a radial heptagonal apse, as well as its cross-section, are influenced by both St. Augustine and the metrics of the Neoplatonics, which remain present in the Chapter Archives. The present study contributes to the discourse on the environmental paradigm in architecture, recognizing beauty as essential alongside community and sustainability. It examines the modern proportion-based approach within the realm of formal aesthetics, which views proportional relationships as essential for architectural form and aims to develop methods to manipulate these relationships to achieve desired aesthetic outcomes. The main objective of this study is to characterize the modern approach as a current distinct from classical theories. The research seeks to explore the unique rationales behind a systematic approach to architectural proportions and to discern how these rationales distinguish the modern approach from its classical predecessor. The research encompasses theories from the mid-19th century to the present day. Through content and comparative analysis, this study explores theories by key figures such as A. Thiersch, H.P. Berlage, Le Corbusier, H. van der Laan, J. Żórawski, J. Hale, and P. Märkli. This study reveals the modern proportional approach as a unique current that adapts classical ideas to modern sensibilities, shifting from classical cosmological symbolism to a focus on logical consistency, visual perception, and artistic expression. It maintains a dual relationship with tradition, preserving past methods while introducing new interpretations of their aesthetic function. Despite its modest impact on contemporary practice, the proportional approach is significant, emphasizing the visual quality of the built environment and pursuing timeless design principles that transcend fleeting trends, focusing on enduring aesthetic values. BACKGROUND: There are some rules that furniture designers must take into consideration to design ergonomic furniture. The main design principle is the target group for which the furniture will be designed, considering the dimensions of people who use the furniture. OBJECTIVE: The paper presents the correlation between 12 parts of children's body, as well as the proportion between stature and 11 other parts of the body which are used for the purposes of furniture and interior designers. METHODS: Field measurements include: Stature (S), Sitting height (She), Shoulder height (Sh), Popliteal height (Ph), Hip width (Hb), Elbow rest height (Erh), Buttock-popliteal length (Bpl), Buttock-knee length (Bkl), Thigh clearance (Tc), Eye height sitting (Eh), Knee height (Kh) and Shoulder breadth (Sb) to pupils aged 6–11 (grades 1 to 5). The measurements were done in 687 children in 12 primary schools in 4 different regions in Kosovo. RESULTS: The data of the study shows that, in general, there is a correlation (in some parts strong and in some medium) for the measured parts. Also, the study presents the proportion between the stature and other parts of the body which are necessary for the design of children's furniture. CONCLUSION: Using this data will enable furniture designers to easily target the dimensions of the group they will design, even by measuring only one dimension, i.e. stature and then setting the proportions for each piece separately. In this article, we present a comprehensive class of estimators designed for population proportion estimation by leveraging auxiliary attributes within the framework of simple random sampling. The proposed class encompasses a diverse range of estimators, each of which undergoes a thorough examination. We provide numerical expressions for both bias and mean squared error, employing a first-order approximation. The significance of the introduced class of estimators is underscored through a detailed analysis of numerical results. These findings demonstrate the marked superiority of the suggested estimators over their existing counterparts in terms of mean squared error and percentage relative efficiency, as observed in both actual and simulated data scenarios. Consequently, we advocate for the adoption of the proposed class of estimators, asserting its potential to yield improved outcomes when estimating population proportions through the utilization of simple random sampling techniques. In Ying Xian Fogong Si Shijia Ta 應縣佛宮寺釋迦塔 (Sakyamuni Pagoda of Fogong Temple in Ying County), Shanxi, there are statues set on each floor, and 26 exist in total, with six murals painted on the first floor. The pagoda was designed as a vertically rising Buddhist temple, and the interior space of each floor was customized for the statues. Based on previous research and through surveying and mapping of the architecture and statuary (including the murals on the first floor) combined with geometric design analysis, this paper proposes the following: First, there exists a clear geometric proportion among the interior space and statues on each floor of the pagoda. Second, clear proportional relationships also exist among the statues on each floor, and each of the 26 statues has 'classical' proportion rules. Third, the height of the giant Buddha statue on the first floor is the module for not only the height of the statues on each floor but also the construction of the whole pagoda such that the height of the statue on the first floor is 1/6 of the total height of the pagoda (excluding the base). And the ratio of the pagoda's total height to the first floor's diameter, the ratio of the total height to the top-story height under the column capital, and all the other geometric proportions are closely related to the architectural modeling. And finally, in the construction of the pagoda, statues, and murals, the scale is deduced to be 1 chi 尺 (Chinese foot) = 29.5 cm. These values give clear scale logics not only to the construction but also to the details of the statues. Accordingly, the most frequently used proportions in the architectural space, statues, and murals of the Pagoda of Fogong Temple are 2 , 3:2, 5:3 (or 8:5), and 9:5, which are imbued with cultural messages, like Zhou Bi Suan Jing 周髀算經 (The Mathematical classic of the Zhou shadow-gauging instrument), Ying Zao Fa Shi 營造法式 (Treatise on Architectural Methods or State Building Standards), the ancient Chinese world view—tian yuan di fang 天圜地方 (the dome-shaped heaven and the flat, square earth) reflected from " yuan fang tu 圓方圖 (rounded-square map)" and "fang yuan tu 方圓圖 (squared-circle map)", ancient Chinese ideas that "san tian liang di er yi shu 參天兩地而倚數 ('three' is the number of the heaven and 'two' is the number of the earth, and all numbers are based on them)" and "jiu wu zhi zun 九五之尊 (nine and five are the numbers of the honorable central position)", and most probably related to the "mandala" of Esoteric Buddhism and to the Western "Golden Ratio", which all need further research in depth. Purpose: The study examines the residential facades of the Al-Jadida neighborhood, focusing on the use of geometry and proportion in Aleppo's architectural history during the late Ottoman era. The analysis sheds light on the city's past and provides insights into the way residents utilized space and interacted with their surroundings. Design/methodology/approach: The study involves collecting primary and secondary sources, including historical documents, photographs, and drawings. Visual analysis is employed to examine the facades overlooking the courtyard, with a focus on windows, doors, balconies, and other distinctive features that contribute to the overall courtyard design. Findings: The findings reveal that traditional Aleppine architecture is centered around the courtyard and incorporates decorative openings and windows reflecting Islamic principles. Stone decorations are used with unique designs based on geometry and composition, contributing to Aleppo's cultural identity. Research limitations/implications: Including more samples for studying facades allows for the identification of changes in architectural styles and the influence of different cultural influences on the city's architecture over time. Moreover, conducting further studies is crucial for preserving this important part of Aleppo's history for future generations. Background The prevalence of allergic diseases is rapidly increasing among the global population, affecting 10%-40% of people worldwide. Allergic diseases often begin in childhood. So far, data for analyzing the trends in the incidence of pediatric allergic diseases in China over the past decade are scant. This study aims to provide an epidemiological support for the prevention and management of pediatric allergic diseases in China by mining electronic medical record data from a single-center institution. Objective To analyze the annual proportion and trend of outpatient visits for allergic diseases among children aged 0-18 years in the Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University from 2014 to 2021. Methods A retrospective analysis of outpatient electronic medical records from the hospital information system of Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University from 2014 to 2021 was conducted to examine the annual proportional composition and changes in the trend changes of allergic diseases. The gender- and age-based proportions of different allergic diseases including eczema, urticaria, allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, allergic cough, allergic conjunctivitis, food allergies, drug allergies, pollen allergy, and anaphylaxis were calculated. The trend of changes in the proportion of allergic diseases with stable annual composition ranking in the top 10 was further analyzed. Results From 2014 to 2021, there were a total of 1 231 890 outpatient visits for pediatric allergic diseases in our center. After excluding missing data, a total of 1 231 863 eligible cases were included, involving 727 082 (59.0%) boys and 504 781 (41.0%) girls. The majority of children visited for allergic diseases were under the age of 3 years (46.9%). Non-IgE mediated allergic diseases, such as henoch-schoenlein purpura, bronchitis, and respiratory tract infections were excluded, and the remaining 1 208 265 cases included in the disease spectrum analysis. From 2016 to 2021, the proportion of outpatient visits for pediatric allergic diseases in Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University showed an upward trend. From 2014 to 2017, the top 5 allergic diseases visited in the outpatient department were eczema, urticaria, allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, and allergic cough. From 2018 to 2021, allergic rhinitis, eczema, urticaria, allergic conjunctivitis, and bronchial asthma ranked the top 5. The trend analysis for an annual proportion of pediatric allergic diseases showed that the ratios of allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and food allergies among all allergic diseases from 2014 to 2021 showed an increasing trend, with peak ratios of 45.4%, 11.1% and 2.8%, respectively. The ratios of urticaria, eczema, and bronchial asthma showed a decreasing trend, with peak ratios of 46.5%, 24.9% and 11.3%, respectively. Conclusion From 2016 to 2021, the proportion of outpatient visits for pediatric allergic diseases in Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University showed an upward trend. Between 2014 and 2021, the annual proportions of allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and food allergies exhibited an increasing trend, while the annual proportions of eczema, urticaria, and bronchial asthma demonstrated a decreasing trend.

Abstract Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a common pathological form of nephrotic syndrome. This study analyzed the value of pathological lesions and clinical prognosis of different segmental glomerulosclerosis ratios in FSGS. Two hundred and six FSGS patients were collected from Dec 2013 to Apr 2016. The patients were divided into two groups according to the proportion of glomerular segmental sclerosis: F1 (SSR ≤ 15%, n = 133) and F2 (SSR > 15%, n = 73). The clinical and pathological data were recorded and analyzed, and statistical differences were observed between the serum uric acid level and the percentage of chronic renal failure. The pathological results showed significant differences in interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy (IFTA), degree of mesangial hyperplasia, vascular lesions, synaptopodin intensity, and foot process effacement between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed significant differences in creatinine (OR: 1.008) and F2 group (OR: 1.19). In all patients, the prognoses of urine protein and serum creatinine levels were statistically different. Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that F2 (hazard ratio: 2.306, 95% CI 1.022–5.207) was associated with a risk of ESRD (end stage renal disease). The proportion of segmental glomerulosclerosis provides a guiding value in the pathological diagnosis and clinical prognosis of FSGS.

Introduction: Musculoskeletal disorders could be associated with metabolic disorders that are common after kidney transplantation, which could reduce the quality of life of patients. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of both musculoskeletal and metabolic disorders in kidney transplant patients. Methods: MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, EMBASE and Web of Science were searched from their inception up to June 2023. DerSimonian and Laird random-effects method was used to calculate pooled prevalence estimates and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: 21,879 kidney transplant recipients from 38 studies were analysed. The overall proportion of kidney transplant patients with musculoskeletal disorders was 27.2% (95% CI: 18.4–36.0), with low muscle strength (64.5%; 95% CI: 43.1–81.3) being the most common disorder. Otherwise, the overall proportion of kidney transplant patients with metabolic disorders was 37.6% (95% CI: 21.9–53.2), with hypovitaminosis D (81.8%; 95% CI: 67.2–90.8) being the most prevalent disorder. Conclusion: The most common musculoskeletal disorders were low muscle strength, femoral osteopenia, and low muscle mass. Hypovitaminosis D, hyperparathyroidism, and hyperuricemia were also the most common metabolic disorders. Fentanyl is not yet routinely monitored among methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) patients in Israel. We aimed 1. to evaluate urine fentanyl proportion changes over 3 years and characterize patients' characteristics 2. To study patients' self-report on fentanyl usage, and compare knowledge about fentanyl risk, before and following brief educational intervention. Fentanyl in the urine of all current MMT patients was tested every 3 months year between 2021 and 2023, and patients with positive urine fentanyl were characterized. Current patients were interviewed using a fentanyl knowledge questionnaire (effects, indications, and risks) before and following an explanation session. Proportion of fentanyl ranged between 9.8 and 15.1%, and patients with urine positive for fentanyl (September 2023) were characterized as having positive urine for pregabalin, cocaine, and benzodiazepine (logistic regression). Of the current 260 patients (87% compliance), 78(30%) self-reported of fentanyl lifetime use ("Ever"), and 182 "never" use. The "Ever" group had higher Knowledge scores than the "Never", both groups improved following the explanatory session (repeated measure). The "Ever" group patients were found with urine positive for cannabis and benzodiazepine on admission to MMT, they were younger, did not manage to gain take-home dose privileges and had a higher fentanyl knowledge score (logistic regression). In the absence of routine fentanyl tests, a high knowledge score, shorter duration in MMT, benzodiazepine usage on admission, and current cannabis usage, may hint of the possibility of fentanyl abuse. AbstractConfidence interval performance is typically assessed in terms of two criteria: coverage probability and interval width (or margin of error). In this article, we assess the performance of four common proportion interval estimators: the Wald, Clopper-Pearson (exact), Wilson and Agresti-Coull, in the context of rare-event probabilities. We define the interval precision in terms of a relative margin of error which ensures consistency with the magnitude of the proportion. Thus, confidence interval estimators are assessed in terms of achieving a desired coverage probability whilst simultaneously satisfying the specified relative margin of error. We illustrate the importance of considering both coverage probability and relative margin of error when estimating rare-event proportions, and show that within this framework, all four interval estimators perform somewhat similarly for a given sample size and confidence level. We identify relative margin of error values that result in satisfactory coverage while being conservative in terms of sample size requirements, and hence suggest a range of values that can be adopted in practice. (k , n) threshold progressive secret image sharing (PSIS) has become an important issue in recent years. In (k , n) PSIS, a secret image is encrypted into n shadows such that k to n shadows can gradually reconstruct the secret image. Since an image can usually be divided into different regions in such a way that each region includes information with different importance levels, region-based PSIS has also been proposed where the reconstruction of different regions requires different thresholds on the shadow numbers. In this work, we propose new region-based (k , n) PSIS that achieves a novel reconstruction model, where all regions possess the property of (k , n) threshold progressive reconstruction, but the same number of shadows recovers a lower proportion of information in regions with a higher importance level. This new reconstruction model can further complete the application of region-based PSIS, where each region has an equal minimum threshold for reconstruction, and the difference in importance levels between regions can be reflected in the proportion of the recovered image using the same number of shadows. A theoretical analysis proves the correctness of the proposed scheme, and the experimental results from four secret images also show the practicality and effectiveness of the proposed scheme. The clinical and pathological data were recorded and analyzed, and statistical differences were observed between the serum uric acid level and the percentage of chronic renal failure. The pathological results showed significant differences in interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy (IFTA), degree of mesangial hyperplasia, vascular lesions, synaptopodin intensity, and foot process effacement between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed significant differences in creatinine (OR: 1.008) and F2 group (OR: 1.19). In all patients, the prognoses of urine protein and serum creatinine levels were statistically different. Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that F2 (hazard ratio: 2.306, 95% CI 1.022–5.207) was associated with a risk of ESRD (end stage renal disease). This study aims to analyze and to describe, in terms of information processing theory, the thinking processes of junior high school students as they solved problems involving direct and inverse proportions. This study design is qualitative and exploratory-descriptive in nature. 26 students in the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Ternate were assigned direct and inverse proportion assignments. Eventually, based on the students' thinking potential and verbal and written communication skills, 3 students who could describe the thinking process based on information processing theory components were selected. The instruments for data collection consisted of questions on direct and inverse proportions, supported by interview procedures. Based on the analysis and discussion of research results, three categories of student thinking processes can be identified: (1) multiple thinking categories in solving direct proportion problems, which occur in the perception component when S1 students write or express problem solving plans using multiple strategies to process accepted information; (2) the multiplication thinking category in solving inverse proportion problems, which occurs in the perception component; and (3) the generalization thinking category in solving inverse proportion problems, which occurs in the perception component. IntroductionGlobally, the utilization of eye care services varies widely, ranging from 18 to 90%. Low utilization of eye care services can lead to delayed detection of vision problems. However, there are limited data on the proportion of eye care service utilization and its associated factors in Ethiopia at the community level.ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to determine the proportion of eye care service utilization and its associated factors among adults in Debre Birhan town, North Shewa, Ethiopia.MethodsUsing a multistage sampling method, a community-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 960 adults in Debre Birhan town from 8 May to 8 June 2023. Binary logistic regression was performed. Variables with a p-value of less than 0.05 were considered significant.ResultsA total of 940 study participants participated, resulting in a response rate of 97.9%. The mean age of the participants was 54.67 years (SD ± 8.69). The proportion of good-level eye care service utilization was found to be 32.98% [95% confidence interval (CI): 29.97, 35.99]. Factors positively associated with good-level eye care service utilization included older age [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 1.58, 95%CI: 1.00, 2.51], higher educational status (AOR = 2.25, 95%CI: 1.25, 4.06), high family monthly income (AOR = 8.70, 95%CI: 4.99,15.18), awareness of regular eye checkups (AOR = 1.77, 95%CI: 1.15, 2.73), a history of eye disease (AOR = 2.57, 95%CI: 1.77,3.74), health insurance (AOR = 1.99, 95% CI: 1.34, 2.95), and history of spectacle use (AOR = 1.94, 95%CI:1.34, 2.80).ConclusionThe study revealed that the proportion of good-level eye care service utilization was low. This study aimed to examine the effect of using the flipped classroom model on students’ proportional reasoning. In this context, the study focused on students’ achievement and solution strategies for proportional reasoning problems. The participants of the study were 56 seventh-grade students determined by convenience sampling method. In line with the purpose of the research, the concept of proportion was taught to the experimental group using the flipped classroom model and to the control group through teaching in accordance with the mathematics curriculum. The data of the study were collected through the Proportional Reasoning Test. The results of the study showed that the flipped classroom model was more effective in terms of mathematics achievement than the teaching method in line with the curriculum. In addition, the experimental group students used more correct solution strategies and fewer incorrect solution strategies than the control group students while solving the problems.

Abstract Introduction The annual global burden of stillbirths is estimated to be 3.2 million, of which 98% occur in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). In the Amhara region of Ethiopia, the prevalence of stillbirth outcomes was 85 per 1000. Ethiopia is experiencing an increase in the number of health professionals attending deliveries, however, stillbirth rates are not decreasing as anticipated. Foundational mathematical concepts like ratios and proportions are indispensable for solving both everyday problems and those encountered in professional settings. However, many students need help to grasp and apply these concepts effectively, often due to ineffective teaching methods, variations in students' levels of comprehension, and shortcomings in existing learning models. Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) and Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) have emerged as promising solutions to address these challenges. This study aims to systematically review the literature on ratio and proportion learning design using RME and PMRI approaches. It focuses on three specific research inquiries: profiling the literature, analyzing employed learning designs, and identifying gaps and recommendations for further research in learning design development. Conducted through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, the research involved planning, implementing, and disseminating review results. One hundred forty-four documents were scrutinized, leading to the identification of 19 pertinent papers. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the literature on learning design in the context of ratio, proportion, scale, and level, utilizing RME and PMRI approaches while highlighting research gaps and offering insights for future studies. Its findings hold significant implications for educators and researchers seeking to enhance mathematics education through RME and PMRI approaches.

Background: Immediate postpartum anemia occurs when the amount of red blood cell count is reduced or hemoglobin concentration is below 10 g/dl in the immediate postpartum. It occurs primarily due to inadequate iron intake before and during pregnancy and blood loss during delivery. The aim of this study is to assess the proportion of immediate postpartum anemia and associated factors among mothers who gave birth at Shewarobit health facilities; in Amhara, Ethiopia. Methods: Institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from June to September 2022. A systematic random sampling method was employed to select the study participants. The data were collected through interviewer-assisted questions. Data were entered into Epi Data software version 4.6.0.4 and exported to SPSS 21 for analysis, and descriptive statistics were computed. Logistic regression was applied, and P-values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: This study was conducted among 307 study participants and, the proportion of immediate postpartum anemia was 41.4% [95% CI: 36.7–46.6]. Having postpartum hemorrhage [AOR = 4.76, 95% CI: 2.44–9.28], not taking iron and folic acid supplementation [AOR = 6.19, 95% CI: 2.69, 14.22], having a prolonged second stage of labor [AOR = 2.52, 95% CI: 1.16–5.44], and mid-upper arm circumference < 23 cm [AOR = 2.02, 95% CI: 1.11–3.68] were factors significantly associated with immediate postpartum anemia. Conclusions: The proportion of immediate postpartum anemia was public problem in Shewarobit health facilities. Abnormal patterns identified on electroencephalogram (EEG) are one of the primary diagnostic tests for epilepsy. However, epidemiological studies have established that both benign and epileptiform abnormalities (EAs) occur on the EEG of nonepileptic, seizure‐free people as well. The reported rates of EAs in nonepileptic, seizure‐free populations vary, and the true prevalence is unknown. The primary objective of this systematic review and meta‐analysis was to estimate the overall prevalence of EAs in the EEG of people without a history of seizures. Secondary aims were to characterize (1) the cortical localization of focal abnormalities, (2) the proportion of findings that occurred during standard EEG stimulation protocols, and (3) the persistence and implications of abnormalities at follow‐up. A comprehensive electronic search of six bibliographic databases was completed: Embase, MEDLINE, PsycInfo, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane Central Register for Controlled Trials, and Web of Science. No search date restrictions were applied. Overall effect size was calculated using a generalized linear mixed‐effects model. Fifty‐three studies, totaling 73 990 individuals, met our inclusion criteria. The overall point prevalence of EAs was 1.74% (95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.13–2.67). Due to the risk of bias in the literature, especially from participant selection, we believe this to be an overestimate of the true prevalence. Prevalence of EAs was greater in children (2.45%, 95% CI = 1.41–4.21) and the elderly (5.96%, 95% CI = 1.39–22.13) compared with adults (.93%, 95% CI =.48–1.80). Reports of developing epilepsy after an EA‐positive EEG were rare. The likelihood of subsequent positive findings on follow‐up EEG may be as high as 50%. Our study has limitations in that males were overrepresented in the study samples, there is substantial heterogeneity among studies, and many studies provided insufficient detail about their exclusion criteria. Objective To analyze the relationship between the proportion of omega-6/omega-3 and mortality in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD), so as to provide reference for reducing the risk of death in patients with CVD. Methods The data of were collected from the UK perspective cohort (UK Biobank) database. The exposure variable was the proportion of plasma omega6/omega-3, and the outcomes were all- cause deaths, CVD deaths, ischemic heart disease (IHD) deaths, and stroke deaths. Multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to analyze the relationship between omega-6/ omega-3 ratio and death risk of CVD patients. Risk ratio hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated. Gender, age, and other risk factors were stratified and their interaction with omega-6/omega-3 ratio was analyzed. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) was used to describe the dose-response relationship. Sensitivity analysis was used to test the robustness of the model. Results A total of 35 096 participants were enrolled. Multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression model showed that all-cause deaths, CVD deaths, and ischemic heart disease deaths risk increased in CVD patients with the in¬crease of the proportion of omega-6/omega-3. For each unit increase in omega-6/omega-3 ratio, the risk of all-cause, CVD, and IHD deaths increased by 2.1% (HR=1.021, 95%CI: 1.016-0.025), 1.9% (HR=1.019, 95%CI: 1.010-1.028), and 2.3% (HR =1.023, 95% CI: 1.013-1.034), respectively. The proportion of omega-6/omega-3 was grouped according to quartile method and included in the model as a classified variable. Compared with Q1, the HR of all-cause, CVD, and IHD deaths of Q4 was 1.394 (95% CI: 1.267-1.534), 1.292 (95%CI: 1.085-1.540), and 1.528 (95% CI: 1.200-1.945), respectively, and no correlation was found between Q4 and stroke death risk (HR=0.987, 95%CI: 0.660-1.477). The results of RCS showed that the proportion of omega-6/omega3 was positively correlated with the risk of death. Conclusion: Our study found that stillbirth rate remains a major public health problem. Illiteracy, not using a partograph, and having obstetric complications were major associated factors for stillbirth. Study Design/Setting. Retrospective single-center study. Background. The global alignment and proportion score is widely used in adult spinal deformity surgery. However, it is not specific to the parameters used in adult cervical deformity (ACD). Purpose. Create a cervicothoracic alignment and proportion (CAP) score in patients with operative ACD. Methods. Patients with ACD with 2-year data were included. Parameters consisted of relative McGregor's Slope [RMGS = (MGS x 1.5)/0.9], relative cervical lordosis [RCL = CL -- thoracic kyphosis (TK)], Cervical Lordosis Distribution Index (CLDI = C2 - Apex x 100/C2 - T2), relative pelvic version (RPV = sacral slope -- pelvic incidence x 0.59 + 9), and a frailty factor (greater than 0.33). Cutoff points were chosen where the cross-tabulation of parameter subgroups reached a maximal rate of meeting the Optimal Outcome. The optimal outcome was defined as meeting Good Clinical Outcome criteria without the occurrence of distal junctional failure (DJF) or reoperation. CAP was scored between 0 and 13 and categorized accordingly: ≤3 (proportioned), 4-6 (moderately disproportioned), > 6 (severely disproportioned). Multivariable logistic regression analysis determined the relationship between CAP categories, overall score, and development of distal junctional kyphosis (DJK), DJF, reoperation, and Optimal Outcome by 2 years. Results. One hundred five patients with operative ACD were included. Assessment of the 3-month CAP score found a mean of 5.2/13 possible points. 22.7% of patients were proportioned, 49.5% moderately disproportioned, and 27.8% severely disproportioned. DJK occurred in 34.5% and DJF in 8.7%, 20.0% underwent reoperation, and 55.7% achieved Optimal Outcome. Patients severely disproportioned in CAP had higher odds of DJK [OR: 6.0 (2.1-17.7); P= 0.001], DJF [OR: 9.7 (1.8-51.8); P=0.008], reoperation [OR: 3.3 (1.9-10.6); P=0.011], and lower odds of meeting the optimal outcome [OR: 0.3 (0.1-0.7); P=0.007] by 2 years, while proportioned patients suffered zero occurrences of DJK or DJF. Conclusion. The regional alignment and proportion score is a method of analyzing the cervical spine relative to global alignment and demonstrates the importance of maintaining horizontal gaze, while also matching overall cervical and thoracolumbar alignment to limit complications and maximize clinical improvement. Objective: In recent years, with the use of three-dimensional (3D) software tools, volumetric measurements of brain morphometry have gained importance. In this study, we aim to investigate the ratio of the volumes of the major structures of the brain (frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital lobes) to the volume of the intracranial cavity (ICC) and the change of asymmetry according to gender, using web-based vol2Brain, which is one of the current and automatic software tools. Materials and Methods: 3D-T1-weighted magnetic resonance images of 80 healthy individuals (43 females and 37 males) of both genders were included in our study. The volumes of major brain lobes were calculated with the vol2Brain pipeline software tool and their ratio to ICC was compared by gender. Results: Males ICC volume, frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital lobe total volume values were statistically higher than females (P < 0.05). Similarly, the right and left volume values of male were higher than those of female in all measurements. However, when the frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital lobe volumes of male and female were proportion to the ICC volume, there was no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the asymmetry results of these cortical structures examined in both genders (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Although the male brain is known to be large, no difference was found between the male and female brains as a result of the ratio. The paper discusses research results based on data excerpted from the National Corpus of Polish. The analysis concerns the impact of negation on the grammar case used in nominal phrases introduced by jako. The purpose of our study was to establish the proportion of genitive and accusative uses in these contexts. We have also analysed the possible impact of the grammatical status of jako on the grammar case. We established that, in contemporary Polish, most nominal phrases introduced by jako contain genitive forms. Accusative forms, although rarer, may not be considered marginal, as they tend to appear in up to 34% of the contexts. We have also shown that there is a correlation between the grammatical status of jako and the way negation impacts these phrases. In structures where jako is considered part of the verb (e.g. Sportowiec nie traktuje trzeciego miejsca jako porażkę), accusative structures tend to appear more often than in those containing jako interpreted as independent lexical units (e.g. Nie znaliśmy tej dziewczyny jako studentki). Background: Although both anemia and schizophrenia (SCZ) can cause cognitive decline, it is unclear whether anemia worsens cognitive decline in patients with SCZ. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of anemia and the relationship between anemia, SCZ symptom severity, and cognitive function in patients with SCZ. Methods: We obtained demographic and clinical data from 1690 inpatients with SCZ. All psychiatric symptoms and cognitive functioning were assessed by the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and the Repeated Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS). Hemoglobin (HGB) values as well as red blood cell (RBC) counts were collected by routine blood tests. Results: The proportion of anemia in patients with SCZ was 26.36 % (383/1453). Compared to SCZ patients without anemia, SCZ patients with anemia were older, had a lower bodyweight, a smaller waist circumference and lower apolipoprotein B levels, but longer QT intervals. Further logistic regression analysis revealed that anemia was associated with age, gender, and weight. In addition, there was no difference in cognitive function between SCZ patients with and without anemia. Conclusion: Our findings suggest a high proportion of anemia in patients with chronic SCZ in the Han Chinese population. Several demographic and clinical variables are associated with anemia in SCZ patients.

旨在为大豆油的精准适度加工以保留微量营养成分提供参考，对巴西和美国大豆原油、中和油、脱色油、脱臭油、脱臭馏出物的生育酚含量及其异构体占比进行了分析，探讨和研究生育酚在精炼各工段的变化及生育酚异构体的占比规律。结果表明：大豆油中生育酚在精炼各工段均有损失，脱臭工段损失最多,生育酚和α-、γ-、δ-生育酚异构体损失率分别为11.68%~19.37%、6.10%~1764%、11.56%~19.68%、17.29%~25.51%，在脱臭和整个精炼过程中3种生育酚异构体的损失率均表现为δ-生育酚>γ-生育酚>α-生育酚；与原油相比较，精炼后大豆油中α-、γ-生育酚占比分别增加了0.4~2.1百分点和0.1~1.2百分点，δ-生育酚占比减少了1.3~2.7百分点，说明大豆油中的δ-生育酚更容易被高温分解或挥发而被汽提蒸汽夹带进脱臭馏出物中；美国大豆原油酸值（KOH）在1.5 mg/g以下，其脱臭馏出物中生育酚含量在97 419~109 123 mg/kg，为原油的80~89倍，巴西大豆原油酸值（KOH）在1.5 ~3.3 mg/g，其脱臭馏出物中生育酚含量在34 678~83 803 mg/kg，为原油的59~84倍，美国和巴西的大豆油脱臭馏出物中α-、γ-、δ-生育酚占比分别为6.5%~9.3%、61.0%~62.4%、26.7%~31.4%和8.4%~9.9%，58.0~61.8%，28.0%~304%，与对应脱臭油相比较，美国和巴西的大豆油脱臭馏出物中α-、γ-生育酚占比分别减少了0.1~2.5百分点、4.5~6.7百分点和0.5~2.9百分点、2.9~69百分点，δ-生育酚占比分别增加了5.5~8.2百分点和5.6~7.8百分点，说明脱臭工段生育酚因挥发而被汽提蒸汽夹带的速率大小为δ-生育酚>α-生育酚>γ-生育酚。因此,应该优化脱臭工段的工艺条件，以最大程度避免生育酚的过度损失。Aiming to provide a reference for accurate and moderate processing of soybean oil to retain micronutrients, the content of tocopherol and its isomers proportion in crude oil, neutralized oil, decolorized oil, deodorized oil, and deodorized distillate processed with the soybean from Brazil and the United States was determined to study the changes rule of tocopherol in various refining stages and the proportion rule of tocopherols isomers. The results showed that tocopherol was lost in all refining stages, and the loss in deodorization stage was the largest with the loss rates of tocopherol and α-, γ-,δ- tocopherol were 11.68%-19.37%, 610%-1764%, 11.56%-19.68%, and 17.29%-2551%, respectively, and 3 isomers in deodorization stage and the whole refining both showed the following loss rates: δ- tocopherol>γ- tocopherol>α- tocopherol. Compared with crude oil, the proportion of α-,γ-tocopherol in refined soybean oil increased by 0.4-2.1 percentage points and 0.1-1.2 percentage points, respectively, and the proportion of δ-tocopherol decreased by 1.3-2.7 percentage points, indicating that δ- tocopherol was more easily decomposed or volatilized at high temperatures, and was carried into the deodorized distillate by the stripping steam. The acid value of US crude soybean oil was below 1.5 mgKOH/g, and the content of tocopherol in deodorized distillate was 97 419-109 123 mg/kg, which was 80-89 times that of crude oil. The acid value of Brazilian crude soybean oil was 1.5-3.3 mgKOH/g, and the content of tocopherol in deodorized distillate was 34 678-83 803 mg/kg, which was 59-84 times that of crude oil. The proportion of α-,γ-,δ- tocopherol in US and Brazilian deodorized distillate were 6.5%-9.3%,61.0%-62.4%,26.7%-31.4% and 84%-9.9%，58.0-61.8%，28.0%-30.4%, respectively. Compared with the corresponding deodorized oil, the proportion of α- tocopherol and γ-tocopherol decreased by 0.1-2.5 percentage points，4.5-6.7 percentage points and 05-2.9 percentage points，2.9-6.9 percentage points, respectively, and the proportion of δ- tocopherol increased by 5.5-8.2 percentage points and 5.6-78 percentage points,indicating that the rate of tocopherol trapped by stripping vapor was δ -tocopherol> α -tocopherol> γ -tocopherol. Therefore, the process conditions of the deodorization stage should be optimized to avoid excessive loss of tocopherol to the greatest extent possible.

Introduction:Musculoskeletal disorders could be associated with metabolic disorders that are common after kidney transplantation, which could reduce the quality of life of patients. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of both musculoskeletal and metabolic disorders in kidney transplant patients.Methods:MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, EMBASE and Web of Science were searched from their inception up to June 2023. DerSimonian and Laird random-effects method was used to calculate pooled prevalence estimates and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs).Results:21,879 kidney transplant recipients from 38 studies were analysed. The overall proportion of kidney transplant patients with musculoskeletal disorders was 27.2% (95% CI: 18.4–36.0), with low muscle strength (64.5%; 95% CI: 43.1–81.3) being the most common disorder. Otherwise, the overall proportion of kidney transplant patients with metabolic disorders was 37.6% (95% CI: 21.9–53.2), with hypovitaminosis D (81.8%; 95% CI: 67.2–90.8) being the most prevalent disorder.Conclusion:The most common musculoskeletal disorders were low muscle strength, femoral osteopenia, and low muscle mass. Hypovitaminosis D, hyperparathyroidism, and hyperuricemia were also the most common metabolic disorders. The knowledge of architecture, initially through the direct follow-up of the Vitruvio`s manuscript and later from the intervention of the writers and architects of the Renaissance, has sought to be transmitted over time through the meeting of Its precepts in theoretical works capable of maintaining the principles of shape, style and proportion, guideline and basis for architects and future works. As regards the architect and treatise writer Fray Lorenzo de San Nicolás, we have seen that the theoretical proposals collected in his book “Arte y Uso de Arquitectura” are reflected in their own buildings. Through digital photogrammetric rising techniques we have been able to analyze the degree of approximation or coherence between the theory and the built project.

Abstract Background Globally, coronary artery disease (CAD) and cancer are the leading causes of death. Studies focusing on the proportion and spectrum of cancer mortality among CAD patients are lacking. We aim to characterize the proportion and spectrum of cancer‐specific mortality among patients with CAD. Methods We analyzed 93,797 hospitalized survivors with angiographically documented CAD between 2007 and 2020 (mean age: 62.8 ± 11.1 years, 24.7% female) from Cardiorenal ImprovemeNt II (CIN‐II) cohort. Results During the median follow‐up of 4.8 years (IQR: 2.6–7.5), 13,162 (14.0%) patients died after discharge. A total of 1223/7703 (15.8% of cause‐specific death) CAD patients died of cancer. Objectives: To examine the distribution, clinical characteristics, and management of priapism in a Saudi Arabian tertiary care setting to provide a regional perspective. Subjects and Methods: This retrospective chart review included 29 male patients presenting with priapism at a tertiary care hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from January 2011 to June 2023. Data were collected on patient demographics, clinical presentation, treatment modalities, and outcomes. Results: The study found recurrent episodes of priapism in many patients, with a significant number associated with hematological diseases, notably sickle cell disease. Most treatments involved non-surgical methods. A notable finding was the correlation between the duration of priapism episodes and the likelihood of hospital admissions, suggesting that prolonged episodes often required more extensive medical attention. Conclusions: Priapism often presents as a chronic and recurrent condition requiring personalized management strategies. This study emphasizes the importance of recognizing regional occurrence patterns to enhance the management of priapism and suggests a need for further research in regions where this condition is less common.

This research delves into the influence of St. Augustine on the construction of the Gothic cathedral of Tortosa. The canonical cathedral of Tortosa underwent re-establishment in 1155, which was carried out by Bishop Godfrey who was the abbot of Saint Rufus of Avignon and was governed by Beati Augustini rule. The presence of St. Augustine in the Capitular archives with De Civitate Dei (ACTo-20) from the XII century is examined. This, coupled with a spatial analysis of the liturgical space using laser scanning (TLS), serves to validate the historiographical thesis put forth by Wilhelm Worringer, Erwin Panofsky, and Otto von Simson for understanding the construction of the apse of the Gothic cathedral (1346–1441). This methodology establishes a bijection between patristic and Neoplatonic sources and the interpretation of the liturgical space’s dimensions using statistical systems. This approach addresses the construction of the apse through the incorporation of a heptagon, a geometric figure that is absent in Euclid’s Elementa and Ptolemy’s Almagest. In conclusion, it is determined that both the imagery and metrics employed in the design of a radial heptagonal apse, as well as its cross-section, are influenced by both St. Augustine and the metrics of the Neoplatonics, which remain present in the Chapter Archives.

The research seeks to explore the unique rationales behind a systematic approach to architectural proportions and to discern how these rationales distinguish the modern approach from its classical predecessor. The research encompasses theories from the mid-19th century to the present day. Through content and comparative analysis, this study explores theories by key figures such as A. Thiersch, H.P. Berlage, Le Corbusier, H. van der Laan, J. Żórawski, J. Hale, and P. Märkli. This study reveals the modern proportional approach as a unique current that adapts classical ideas to modern sensibilities, shifting from classical cosmological symbolism to a focus on logical consistency, visual perception, and artistic expression. It maintains a dual relationship with tradition, preserving past methods while introducing new interpretations of their aesthetic function. Despite its modest impact on contemporary practice, the proportional approach is significant, emphasizing the visual quality of the built environment and pursuing timeless design principles that transcend fleeting trends, focusing on enduring aesthetic values.
