Investigating the flow performance of Francis turbines from model to prototype is a complex but essential process for ensuring reliable and efficient turbine operation in hydropower plants. It ensures that Francis turbine designs operate efficiently under various operating conditions, extending from laboratory reduced-scale models to full-scale prototype installations. In this investigation, a Francis turbine model was tested under different operating conditions, and its properties were measured, including torque, hydraulic efficiency, power output, cavitation coefficient, rotational speed, flow rate, and pressure pulsations. The results of the Francis turbine model test indicate that it achieved the maximum torque with the designed discharge and designed head. The cavitation coefficient consistently remained higher than the critical cavitation coefficient. The initial cavitation bubbles were observed at 50% partial load but disappeared at full load. Pressure pulsations under different operating conditions showed the maximum peak-to-peak amplitude appearing at the turbine inlet domain and the minimum amplitude occurring at the draft tube elbow. A hill chart shows that the model's best efficiency was 93.66%, and the estimated best efficiency of the prototype was 95.03% at the design head. The conclusions and methodology of this study can be generalized to other similar hydraulic turbines, especially prototype Francis turbines that lack experimental results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to analyse the effect of the injection point size of the CBM (Coalbed Methane) well level monitor on the amplitude and frequency of pressure pulsations in the wellhead manifold, numerical simulations and experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of different injection point sizes on the amplitude and frequency of pressure pulsations downstream of the sudden expansion structure. Using compressed air as the fluid and the size of the injection point as the variable, the amplitude and frequency of pressure pulsations at different locations downstream of the sudden expansion structure were tested. The results show that the pressure pulsation amplitude is affected by the size of the injection point, and the larger the injection point is, the larger the pressure pulsation amplitude is; the size of the injection point has less influence on the pressure pulsation frequency downstream of the protruding and expanding structure, and the pressure pulsation frequency at 0.5 m and 1 m downstream of the protruding and expanding structure is in the vicinity of 76 Hz. Therefore, the echo signal processing should be filtered around this frequency to obtain accurate liquid level echo signals, so as to improve the accuracy of liquid level monitoring and realise the efficient development of coalbed methane wells. In this paper, an array piezoelectric energy harvester (APEH) is designed for energy collection from water hydraulic system. The APEH is arranged in a spatial axial array, exhibiting excellent insulation and waterproof properties. The effects of connection modes and pressure pulsation parameters on the output performance of APEH are investigated through theoretical analysis, simulation and experiment. The results show that the output electric energy of each piezoelectric disk is consistent, and it is generated by the deformation caused by pressure pulsation. The connection modes show significant differences at different resistances. Series and parallel connections have the same maximum output power. The parallel connection has a smaller optimal resistance and has advantages in practical engineering applications. Both the pressure amplitude and the pulsation frequency affect the output voltage and power and increasing the pulsation frequency leads to the decrease of optimal resistance. By employing parallel connection, APEH can achieve higher output at lower load resistances. When the resistance is 12 kΩ, the average power and power density are reach as 997.63 μ W and 2.54 μ W mm−3, respectively. In summary, the APEH proposed in this paper offering a viable solution for energy recovery in water hydraulic systems and the sustainable power supply of the sensors, along with providing relevant theoretical references and practical schemes. Kaplan turbine units can adjust their blades to achieve wider outputs without a significant loss of efficiency. The combination of guide vane angle (GVA) and blade angle (BA) is selected based on efficiency curves obtained from cam tests. However, the vibration characteristics are not considered in the test. The vibration and flow characteristics are complex with different combinations of guide vane and blade angles. Different cam relation selection principles lead to varying machine vibration and flow characteristics. In this research, the flow and vibration characteristics were obtained by means of field test and numerical simulation. Vibration, pressure pulsation, and other stability indicators have been extracted and investigated under off-cam conditions. The flow and variation rules of different indicators have been thoroughly researched. The findings suggest that the magnitude of vibration in the X direction surpassed that in the Y direction for the head cover, upper frame, and lower frame under 22 experimental conditions. The disparity between the head cover and upper frame in both directions was not significant, whereas a substantial contrast existed between the lower frame in the X and Y directions. The calculation results indicate that when the guide vane angle was small, vortices appeared near the high-pressure edge of the runner in the vaneless region and caused disorganized flow lines in the runner, and this complex vortex behavior led to multiple frequency components in the pressure pulsation frequency domain. Centrifugal pump pressure pulsation contains various signals in different frequency domains, which interact and superimpose on each other, resulting in characteristics such as intermittency, non-stationarity, and complexity. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and traditional time series models are unable to handle nonlinear and non-smooth problems, resulting in low accuracy in the prediction of pressure fluctuations. Therefore, this study proposes a new method for predicting pressure fluctuations. The pressure pulsation signals at the inlet of the centrifugal pump are processed using Variational Mode Decomposition–Particle Swarm Optimization (VMD-PSO), and the signal is predicted by Convolutional Neural Networks–Long Short-Term Memory (CNN-LSTM) model. The results indicate that the proposed prediction model combining VMD-PSO with four neural networks outperforms the single neural network prediction model in terms of prediction accuracy. Relatively high accuracy is achieved by the VMD-PSO-CNN-LSTM model for multiple forward prediction steps, particularly for a forward prediction step of 1 (Pre = 1), with a root mean square error of 0.03145 and an average absolute percentage error of 1.007%. Mixed‐flow pump is a typical pump using in low‐head cases of water lifting. The flow field pulsation is usually an important issue in the operation of mixed‐flow pumps and their pumping statins. Due to its large size, it is difficult to monitor the internal flow characteristics well, based on computational fluid dynamics, we use 5678 monitoring points which arranged in the impeller and fixed vane with using the high pulsation tracking network, and the pressure pulsation signals are analyzed by fast Fourier transform and variable mode decomposition to decompose the main frequency and intensity of the pressure pulsation signals, then analyze the energy dissipation with the entropy production rate (EPR). It is found that there are strong low‐frequency (0.416, 0.625, and 1.67 Hz) pressure pulsation near hub, and the pressure pulsation on the shroud is stronger than that on the hub (at least three times or more); there are strong and stable pressure pulsation (25 Hz) on the shroud generated by the rotor–stator interference (RSI); and the EPR in the flow field can be well combined with the signal. Reasonably allocating material strength and controlling the number of vanes and impellers to avoid producing a common multiple can avoid pressure pulsation caused by RSI and reduce energy dissipation. Therefore, it is very effective in improving the efficiency of this part. Under low flow conditions, the siphon outflow passage can predict the high‐frequency (45.833 Hz) attenuation area well through the phase signal decomposition of the signal, which has certain significance for improving its stability and efficiency. This paper presents a comprehensive investigation of flow-induced noise characteristics in ethylene cracking furnace tubes, covering both pre- and postcoking conditions. Large-eddy simulation (LES) was employed in conjunction with a generalized Lighthill's acoustic analogy model. The results indicate that noise sources can be classified as dipole acoustic sources, with energy primarily concentrated ranged from 300 to 1500 Hz, in comparison to standard conditions. The primary location of the acoustic source was identified in the region commonly referred to as the "necking" of the furnace tube, demonstrating a strong correlation with turbulence intensity near the tube wall. As the coke layer thickness in the furnace tube increased from 5 mm to 15 mm, both the sound power level and turbulence intensity exhibited significant growth. Specifically, the sound power level increased by 60.5% while the turbulence intensity increased by 58.5%. Variations in the overall sound pressure level (OASPL) curve measured within the tube could be utilized to assess coking levels. Significant peaks in the OASPL curve were observed as the furnace tube underwent substantial coking, with coke layer thicknesses of 10 mm and 15 mm. The corresponding OASPL values recorded were 79.25 dB and 119.08 dB, respectively. Multistage pumps are essential in emergency water supply, irrigation, and other systems undergoing unavoidable hydraulic transitions like pump startup and valve operations. These transitions cause rapid changes in impeller speed, flow rate, and pressure, destabilizing the internal flow field and impacting system reliability. To study transient flow characteristics, a numerical analysis of a three-stage pump was conducted, focusing on vortex identification, entropy production, and time–frequency pressure pulsation. Using the SST turbulence model, the simulation analyzed different start times and flow rate variations. Findings revealed that shorter startup times intensified transient effects, with the head increasing rapidly initially and then stabilizing. Vortex structures showed periodic development and dissipation. Entropy production rose with impeller speed, peaking higher with shorter startups. Blade passing frequency dominated pressure pulsations, with increased low-frequency pulsations as speed rose. During valve opening, flow stabilization accelerated with increasing flow rates, reducing amplitude and eliminating low-frequency components. The use of pumps as turbines has been gaining more and more attention in recent years. The present work mainly investigates the influence of blade wrap angle on the internal flow and pressure fluctuation characteristics of centrifugal pumps as turbines. Five different wrap angles (35°,45°, 55°, 65°, and 75°) for a forward-curved impeller were numerically analyzed under multiple operating conditions. The accuracy of numerical simulation was validated by experimental results. The results show that maximum efficiency is achieved with a blade wrap angle of 35°, and the highest efficiency flow point gradually decreases as the blade wrap angle increases. It is found by conducting entropy production theory analysis that the high-entropy production rate regions in PATs are concentrated in the volute tongue and impeller blade inlet regions, and that the entropy production rate at the impeller inlet region increases and then decreases as the blade wrap angle decreases. In addition, pressure pulsation was affected not only by dynamic and static interference but also by an irregular vortex around the impeller; its magnitude under Qt is higher than 0.8Qt for blade wrap angles of 55° and 75°. The primary frequency of pressure pulsation within the impeller is the axial frequency fn and its multiples, and the frequency with the largest amplitude is 3fn. The periodicity of vortices is closely related to the periodicity of pressure pulsation. And it is suggested that a PAT with a 35° blade wrap angle is advantageous for improving the stability of a turbine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hydrofoil trailing edge shape directly influences its downstream flow state. Due to the non-streamlined shape, alternating vortices will form downstream, resulting in complex pressure pulsations. Different shapes of the trailing edge lead to varying pressure pulsations downstream. In this paper, four different trailing edge shapes were selected for numerical simulation based on the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics 0009 hydrofoil. The main difference lies in trimming one side of the trailing edge to different degrees, making it asymmetrical. Large Eddy Simulation was used and the results were accurate. The optimized multivariate variational mode decomposition was used to extract and reconstruct effective components of pressure pulsation in the flow, and satisfactory reconstruction results were obtained. This combined method effectively identifies key components influencing flow field and enables reasonable reconstruction. Results show that shedding vortices on both sides of an asymmetric hydrofoil's tailing edge exhibit noticeable differences in morphology. Pressure pulsation distribution in the trailing-edge flow field was primarily influenced by components near vortex-shedding frequency. With the deepening of the asymmetric trimming degree, the pressure pulsation influenced by this component on that side is gradually weakened, but the energy peak of pressure pulsation in the flow field is less reduced. The valved linear compressor (VLC) is an essential part of the Joule-Thompson (J-T) throttling cryocooler in the liquid helium temperature region. The pressure pulsation may cause the fluctuation of the temperature and cooling capacity of the cryocooler, thus affecting its temperature stability. To measure the pressure pulsation of the VLC's pipe system, the mathematical model of pressure pulsation in the buffer tank of the VLC was established with the transfer matrix method based on the plane wave theory. The quantitative representation of the pulsating mass flow of the VLC was obtained with the linear damping based on the plane wave theory. Then, a test bench was set up to measure the pressure pulsation. The influence of the VLC's operating frequency and the suction and discharge buffer tank volume on the pressure pulsation was discussed. Results show that the pressure pulsation of the pipe system is related to the VLC's operating frequency. The pressure pulsation of the pipe system increases with the increase of the VLC's operating frequency. Both the inlet and outlet buffer tanks can effectively inhibit the pressure pulsation, but their capability is independent of each other. The pressure pulsation inhibition effect is better with the increase of the buffer tank volume. With the increase of the buffer tank volume, the pressure inhomogeneity at the inlet of the inlet buffer tank decreases to 164 over 423, but the pressure inhomogeneity at the outlet of the outlet buffer tank decreases to 8 over 23.

Abstract The rotor blades of an axial‐flow turbine are cantilever structures, and there is inevitably a gap between them and the casing. Due to factors such as rotor wear and unit vibration, the eccentricity of the impeller will change during the operation of the turbine, resulting in the impeller being affected by additional radial forces, which can even lead to rubbing or biting between the impeller and the casing. To monitor the eccentricity of the impeller and the additional radial forces in real time during the operation of the turbine, this study conducted numerical simulations of the internal flow of the turbine under different eccentricities of the impeller, and analyzed the characteristics of pressure pulsation and impeller radial force in the turbine using the variational mode decomposition method. The results showed that there was a good linear relationship between the eccentricity of the impeller and the amplitude of the frequency corresponding to the rotor in pressure pulsation at the monitoring point and the Alford force acting on the impeller. Based on this finding, we established mathematical formulas for the relationship between the pressure pulsation at the monitoring point and the eccentricity of the impeller, as well as the eccentricity of the impeller and the Alford force acting on it. According to these formulas, we only need to monitor the pressure pulsation during the operation of the turbine to realize the real‐time monitoring of the eccentricity of the impeller and the Alford force, which is of great significance for ensuring the safe and stable operation of the turbine.

Pump–turbine units with high heads are subjected to strong pressure pulsations from the unsteady transient flow in fluid channels, which can produce severe vibrations and high stresses on the pump–turbine structural components. Therefore, reducing transient flow-induced stresses on prototype reversible pump–turbine units is an important measure for ensuring their safe and efficient operation. A high-head prototype reversible pump–turbine with a rated head of 440 m was used to investigate the transient flow characteristics and the flow-induced-stresses in this study. First, the flow passages of the pump–turbine unit and the structure of the reversible pump–turbine runner were constructed with CAD tools. Next, CFD simulations at the full load were performed to investigate the pressure pulsation characteristics of the pump turbine in both the time domain and the frequency domain. After this, the pressure files calculated by the CFD were exported and applied to a finite element model of the pump–turbine runner to calculate the transient flow-induced dynamic stresses. The results show that the pressure pulsations in the flow passage are closely related to the rotational speed, the guide vane number, and the runner blade number of the pump–turbine unit. The maximum flow-induced stresses on the pump–turbine runner at the full load were below 2 MPa and lower than the allowable value, which reveals that the designs of the pump–turbine runner and the flow passage are acceptable. The conclusions can be used as a reference to evaluate the design of high-head pump–turbines units. The approaches used to carry out the transient flow-induced stress calculations can be applied not only to pump–turbines units but also to other types of fluid turbomachinery such as pumps, turbines, fans, compressors, turbochargers, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Unstable flow in a pump-turbine can cause pressure pulsation, and the resulting vibration deteriorates the stability and operating safety of the unit. This study conducted three-dimensional numerical calculations of the overall flow passage of a pump-turbine with splitter blades under the small guide vane opening, and the unsteady flow characteristics of the turbine were investigated. The results showed that the pressure fluctuation was more severe at lower head operating conditions with lower efficiency, especially in the vaneless area (the runner blade passages). Under the lower head condition, the proportion of 12 times the rotational frequency (12 f/fn) increased in the vaneless area, and the amplitude of 1 f/fn as well as 2 f/fn became larger in the runner blade channel, with more space occupied by vortices and reflux areas. A spiral vortex rope formed in the draft tube, increasing the proportion of 0.4 f/fn and 0.7 f/fn pressure pulses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Internal flow has a significant impact on the performance and stability of a mixed-flow pump during deceleration. This article aims to explore the complex internal flow in mixed-flow pumps during deceleration. A multi-channel testing system was constructed to clarify the impact of different decelerations on the pressure pulsation inside the pump. External characteristic parameters and internal pressure pulsation of mixed-flow pumps were collected under different deceleration modes. Non-stationary signal processing was introduced to determine the effects of speed reduction on the pressure pulsation at the impeller outlet and inside the guide vanes. Three domains were divided into time, frequency, and time-frequency, as well as the correlation between them. The results show that the decline gradient of head and flow under different deceleration modes was positively correlated with the decline speed. The energy entropy ratio of the pressure pulsation in the pump showed a downward trend during deceleration. It indicated that the pressure pulsation was gradually stabilized with the decrease of the speed in the pump. The peak value of pressure pulsation and the changing trend of sample entropy were positively correlated with the exponential of the deceleration modes. The changing trend of impeller outlet pressure pulsation was consistent with the speed transformation during the whole deceleration. The forward transfer entropy under different deceleration modes was greater than the reverse transfer entropy. Therefore, the pressure pulsation at the outlet of the impeller was dominated that in the guide vane. The high energy region of the pressure pulsation was mainly concentrated in the blade passing frequency 4fn and the high-order harmonic 8fn, whereas, the amplitude was positively correlated with the index of the speed transformation. The strong correlation region was concentrated in the two frequency bands of rotation frequency fn and blade passing frequency 4fn in the process of deceleration. The high amplitude region of pressure pulsation at the outlet of the impeller was concentrated in the blade passing frequency of 4fn, while the frequency of the pressure fluctuation component with the highest amplitude inside the guide vane was 3fn. The partial coherence frequency between the pressure pulsation at the impeller outlet and inside the guide vane was in the range of 80 and 120 Hz. There was no change in the frequency range of the strong correlation region between the pressure pulsations at the impeller outlet and inside the guide vane during different decelerations. But there was a variation in the proportion of the strong correlation region in the frequency range of the entire deceleration. In the deceleration with the fixed initial speed and target speed, the deceleration mode shared no effect on the coherent frequency of pressure fluctuation in the impeller outlet and guide vane. Kaplan turbines are widely utilized in low-head and large flow power stations. This paper employs Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to complete numerical calculations of the full flow channel under different blade angles and various guide vane openings, based on 25 off-cam experimental working conditions. The internal flow characteristics of the runner blade and draft tube are analyzed, and a discriminant number for quantitatively assessing the flow uniformity of the draft tube is proposed. The results indicate that low-frequency and high-amplitude pressure pulsations occur on the high- and low-pressure edge of the blade when the opening is small, with pulsations decreasing as the opening increases. The inner flow line of the draft tube is disturbed when both the blade angle and opening are small. Additionally, the secondary frequency of the draft tube inlet is double that of the vane passing frequency. The discriminant number of the flow inhomogeneity approaches 0 under optimal flow conditions. The number increases continuously with the decrease in efficiency, and the flow in the three piers of draft tube becomes more nonuniform. During the operation of a water-jet pump, cavitation generates noise and vibration, causes surface erosion of the hydraulic components, and reduces the performance of the pump. Suppressing the cavitation is beneficial for improving the stability of the energy system of the water-jet pump. In order to investigate the mechanism of cavitation suppression and optimize the cavitation performance of the water-jet pump, the unsteady cavitation flow was studied by numerical simulation and experiment in this paper. Using high-speed photography technology on a closed test platform, the cavitation flow structures in the water-jet pump were captured, and the physical process of cavitation evolution was revealed. Based on this, in order to obtain the cavitation flow characteristics closely related to the cavitation performance, the cavitation flow in the impeller tip clearance was studied by numerical simulation, the vorticity variation rate in the tip clearance was analyzed, the effects of different cavitation conditions on the vorticity in the tip clearance were revealed. With regard to the pronounced pressure pulsation and cyclic thrust oscillation observed in the tail flow field of an underwater vehicle operating under overexpanded conditions, and drawing inspiration from flow control techniques involving porous media structures like submarine coral reefs and breakwaters, this paper presents an innovative proposition to incorporate a porous media layer on the tail wall of the nozzle in order to regulate the structure of the tail gaseous jets. To optimize the flow control of underwater vehicles, the utilization of porous media layers with varying degrees of porosity is employed to establish a model for underwater supersonic gaseous jets. This model scrutinizes the intricate structure of the tail gaseous jets, as well as the consequential wall pressure and thrust engendered by the nozzle. The findings eloquently demonstrate that the porous media model, boasting a porosity of 0.34, exerts a diminished influence on the morphological characteristics of the tail gaseous jets, while concurrently yielding a superior flow control effect on the pulsation of tail wall pressure and attenuating the differential thrust generated by the underwater vehicle. Consequently, this innovative approach effectively mitigates overall thrust oscillation, thereby enhancing the stability of the underwater vehicle throughout its submerged operations. This research is focused on investigating the impact of the bulk modulus on the dynamics of variable delivery hydraulic axial piston pump (VAPP). The bulk modulus decreases exponentially with an increase in temperature whereas there is a linear positive relationship with pressure. The research revealed that there is a 6% (1 litre/s) increase in flow rate and a 2.6% (1.5 MPa) decrease in delivery pressure with a 38.75% (0.434 GPa) decrease in bulk modulus. Flow ripple and pressure pulsation are reduced by 39.3% and 43.2% respectively with a corresponding 38.75% decrease in bulk modulus. Pressure pulsation and flow ripple are responsible for the generation of noise and vibrations in the system. Flow rate increase contributes to better response and control of the VAPP. While a reduction in bulk modulus offers improved dynamic performance and overall response of the VAPP, it is noteworthy that a decrease in bulk modulus hurts the pump delivery pressure. The match of rotor and stator blades significantly affects the flow field structure and flow-induced pressure pulsation characteristics inside the pump. In order to study the effects of the rotor and stator matching mode on the complex flow field and pressure pulsation of a centrifugal pump with a vaned diffuser, this paper designs three different vaned diffusers (DY5, DY8 and DY9) and uses the DDES (Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation) numerical method combined with structured grids to simulate the unsteady flow phenomena of the model pump under rated conditions. The results show that, under different rotor and stator matching modes, the pressure pulsation spectrum is dominated by the blade passing frequency and its harmonics. The matching mode of the rotor and stator significantly affects the time–frequency domain characteristics of the pressure pulsation inside the pump, and it is observed that the pressure pulsation energy of vaned diffusers with more blades is significantly smaller than that of fewer-blade vaned diffusers in comparison to the energy of the pressure pulsation at the blade passing frequency and within the 10–1500 Hz frequency band. Combined with the distribution characteristics of the complex flow field inside the pump, it can be found that increasing the number of vaned diffuser blades can reduce the energy of flow-induced pressure pulsation, improve the distribution of high-energy vortices in the interaction zone and stabilize the flow inside the centrifugal pump effectively. The internal flow of a pump turbine is unstable in part-load pump mode for small guide-vane openings, and the strong vibration caused by pressure pulsation is related to the safe and stable operation of the unit. A pump turbine with a six-splitter-blade runner was chosen for unsteady simulation analyses. A standard k-epsilon turbulence model was adopted to study the unsteady flow and pressure pulsation in part-load pump mode. The predicted results show that the flow in the draft tube and the runner with splitter blades was relatively stable and the flow of the blade-to-blade channel was symmetrical. When the inlet and outlet velocity distribution of the vanes was not uniform, a vortex began to form in the stay-vane domain. The reason for this vortex formation is explained, and it is pointed out that the existence of the vortex and backflow leads to uneven velocity distribution. The unsteady calculation results showed that the pressure-pulsation peak-to-peak amplitudes in the vaneless area and guide vanes were much higher than those of other monitor points because of rotor–stator interference between the rotating runner and the vanes. In addition, the pulsation characteristics of the monitor points at different circumferential positions in the vaneless region were quite different. In the vaneless area, the velocity gradient along the circumferential direction was very large, and there was a phenomenon of backflow. Also, the pressure pulsation was 0.2 times that of the runner rotational frequency, and the blade-passing frequency was a third-order frequency. At the outlet of the guide vane, the pressure pulsation was mainly of a low frequency with a complex vortex flow. Finally, the pressure pulsation began to decrease rapidly in the stay-vane region. The rotor blades of an axial‐flow turbine are cantilever structures, and there is inevitably a gap between them and the casing. Due to factors such as rotor wear and unit vibration, the eccentricity of the impeller will change during the operation of the turbine, resulting in the impeller being affected by additional radial forces, which can even lead to rubbing or biting between the impeller and the casing. To monitor the eccentricity of the impeller and the additional radial forces in real time during the operation of the turbine, this study conducted numerical simulations of the internal flow of the turbine under different eccentricities of the impeller, and analyzed the characteristics of pressure pulsation and impeller radial force in the turbine using the variational mode decomposition method. The results showed that there was a good linear relationship between the eccentricity of the impeller and the amplitude of the frequency corresponding to the rotor in pressure pulsation at the monitoring point and the Alford force acting on the impeller. Based on this finding, we established mathematical formulas for the relationship between the pressure pulsation at the monitoring point and the eccentricity of the impeller, as well as the eccentricity of the impeller and the Alford force acting on it. According to these formulas, we only need to monitor the pressure pulsation during the operation of the turbine to realize the real‐time monitoring of the eccentricity of the impeller and the Alford force, which is of great significance for ensuring the safe and stable operation of the turbine. The hydrogen circulation pump (HCP) is an important power component of the hydrogen fuel system, used to recover the unconsumed hydrogen from the anode and transport it back to the inlet of the battery stack to improve the hydrogen utilization efficiency. In this paper, to determine the optimal parameter configuration of the HCP, a multifactor and multi-objective optimization design method is proposed, and the influences of various design parameters on the performance of the HCP are analyzed based on the verified overset grid simulation method. The research results show that the proposed coupling design method can effectively achieve the optimal parameter configuration of the HCP, with diameter-to-pitch ratio κ = 1.47, rotor blade number Z = 3, and helix angle φ = 60°, which is validated using another model with significant performance advantages. In the process of studying the influence of design parameters, it is found that the average flow rate of the HCP is directly proportional to the diameter-to-pitch ratio and the blade number, gradually decreases in the range of helix angle from 0° to 22.5°, and increases in the range of helix angle from 22.5° to 60°. The flow pulsation value and pressure pulsation value of the HCP are less affected by the diameter-to-pitch ratio, decrease with the increase of the blade number, and show a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with the increase of the helix angle. The results of experimental studies on the creation of highly efficient designs of vibration-isolating compensators for pipelines with liquid are considered. It is noted that the only way to evaluate the effectiveness of various compensators in reducing vibration at different frequencies currently is to compare their transient vibration stiffness or transient mechanical impedance, which were measured on special stands at a given frequency. The stiffness of the compensator increases significantly with increasing frequency vibrations. Hazardous frequencies may vary between piping systems. For this reason, it is impossible to set an integral criterion for the effectiveness of a vibration-isolating compensator, similar to static stiffness. The results of measurements carried out on a special stand on the transitional vibration stiffness of a new design compensator with thin-layer rubber-metal elements (TRME) are presented. The rigidity decreased by 10 or 100 times or more in the frequency range from 50 to 800 Hz relative to the rigidity of a serial compensator based on rubber cord casing (RCC), including in the presence of water inside it. It has been experimentally shown that the vibration-isolating ability of the same compensator as part of a pipeline system, determined by the value of the dynamic force transmitted by the compensator to the pipeline from the pump, significantly depends on the presence of water in them and its flow, which is not taken into account in known methods. The results of testing compensators with RCC and TRME with a bore diameter of 80 mm as part of a stand with a ring pipeline system, a pump, systems for monitoring the flow of the working fluid, vibrations, pressure pulsations, and dynamic (vibration) forces transmitted by the compensators to the pipeline are presented. In a stand with pipelines, the efficiency of vibration-isolating compensators with TRME is still 10 and 100 times higher than compensators with RCC in the absence of water and decreases by an order of magnitude in the presence of water without its flow when the pump is vibrated by a vibrator. The pipeline system is widely used in marine engineering, and the formation mechanism and flow patterns of two-phase slug flows are of great significance for the optimal design of and vibration prevention in a complex pipeline system. Aiming at the above problems, this paper proposes a modeling and solving method for gas-liquid slug flows. First, a VOF-PLIC-based coupling gas-liquid slug flow transport model is conducted. Second, to reduce the fuzzy boundary between the gas-liquid coupling interfaces, an artificial compression term is added to the transport equations, and the formation and evolution mechanism of severe slugging flow in piping systems is investigated. The pressure pulsation and gas content characteristics of the gas-liquid coupling process are explored. Research results found that the slugging phenomenon occurs at the gas-liquid interface, where liquid slugging frequency reaches its peak. The pipeline system has prominent periodic characteristics of the slugging phenomenon, and the period decreases when the gas-phase converted speed rises; pressure fluctuation amplitude increases, and the gas-phase velocity change is the inducing factor for the drastic change of pressure fluctuation. Centrifugal pumps are essential fluid transfer devices in marine engineering. As the two most critical components of a centrifugal pump, the dynamic–static interference between the volute and the impeller makes the flow near the cutwater highly unstable, with significant and erratic pressure pulsation, which seriously affects the stability of the operation. The impeller can be improved by cutting the hub, which helps stabilize the flow and reduce pressure pulsation near the cutwater, thus minimizing hydraulic loss. In this study, four different cutting angles were applied to the impeller hub. Computations are conducted using large eddy simulation to analyze the flow and pressure pulsation near the cutwater. Compared to the prototype pump, the modified impeller exhibits a significant reduction in pressure gradient near the blade outlet close to the cutwater. The modified impeller also shows a more uniform flow and lower amplitude of pressure pulsation. Furthermore, under various flow conditions, the centrifugal pump with the modified impeller exhibits lower hydraulic loss compared to the prototype pump, indicating that this method effectively suppresses hydraulic loss. During the operation of a water-jet pump, cavitation generates noise and vibration, causes surface erosion of the hydraulic components, and reduces the performance of the pump. Suppressing the cavitation is beneficial for improving the stability of the energy system of the water-jet pump. In order to investigate the mechanism of cavitation suppression and optimize the cavitation performance of the water-jet pump, the unsteady cavitation flow was studied by numerical simulation and experiment in this paper. Using high-speed photography technology on a closed test platform, the cavitation flow structures in the water-jet pump were captured, and the physical process of cavitation evolution was revealed. Based on this, in order to obtain the cavitation flow characteristics closely related to the cavitation performance, the cavitation flow in the impeller tip clearance was studied by numerical simulation, the vorticity variation rate in the tip clearance was analyzed, the effects of different cavitation conditions on the vorticity in the tip clearance were revealed. Additionally, this paper analyzed the pressure pulsation characteristics of the tip clearance under different cavitation conditions, and emphatically analyzed the influence of the cavitation flow on the tip clearance pressure pulsation.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the flow and pressure pulsation characteristics of hydrogen circulation pump under varying pressure differences. A dynamic mesh technology was employed to conduct an unsteady numerical simulation of the interior of the hydrogen pump. The pressure pulsation within the pump cavity area was analyzed using fast Fourier transform, and the unevenness of pressure and flow inside the pump under varying pressure differential conditions was specifically studied. The results reveal that interference between dynamic and static in the pump cavity, caused by meshing clearance between rotors and radial clearance between the rotor and pump cavity, leads to pressure pulsation peaks occurring at twice the rotational frequency at all monitoring points. Additionally, as the pressure difference increases, the exhaust flow rate at the outlet of the pump cavity decreases from 49.237 m3/h to 12.392 m3/h, while volumetric efficiency decreases from 85.95% to 32.3%. The article utilizes Fluent dynamic mesh technology to conduct transient simulations on four distinct pressure differential conditions of hydrogen circulation pumps, thereby obtaining the variation principle of the internal flow field under varying pressure differences and elucidating the influence of pressure differences on both the non-uniformity of pressure and flow rate. This study aims to reveal and compare the heat and mass transfer and the drying kinetic parameters of red jujube slices during hot air drying, infrared combined hot air drying, and infrared vacuum pulsation drying. A three-dimensional coupled model was established for the heat and mass transfer of jujube slices under the three drying modes, according to the control equations of Fick's law of diffusion, Antonin's equation and Beer Lambert's law. The reliability of the model was verified using experimental data. Subsequently, the utility of the model was tested by varying parameters, such as hot air temperatures, infrared radiation intensities, and vacuum pulsation ratios. Each drying was further analyzed to combine with the measured quality indexes, textural properties and microstructure. The actual geometry of jujube slices was simulated and solved using COMSOL Multiphysics 6.0. The result shows that: 1) The infrared hot air and infrared vacuum drying saved 46.43% and 41.07% of the drying time, compared with the hot air drying. The simulation was in better agreement with the measured values (the coefficients of determination R² for dry basis moisture content and temperature were 0.964, 0.959, 0.917 and 0.947, 0.922, 0.951, respectively). 2) The temperature field diagram showed that the effective heat of the inside of the material, and the center temperature of the material during infrared hot air and infrared vacuum drying increased by 11.33% and 5.59%, respectively, compared with the hot air drying, when drying for 20 min. The high energy density and penetrability of infrared radiation significantly improved the drying efficiency. 3) The simulation data showed that there was a significant effect of pressure variation on the drying kinetics in the infrared vacuum pulsation drying. The increasing vacuum time was favorable to the decrease of moisture. The water content and drying rate showed a step and peak distribution with the pressure pulsation. The sensitivity of the drying rate to the pressure change decreased with the decrease in the water content of the material. Further explanation was provided for the formation of porous structure in the red jujube slices during vacuum pulsation drying. 4) A comparison was made on the measured quality and textural properties of jujube slices with the simulated data. Segmented drying was proposed for the future direction in the numerical model of heat and mass transfer for fruit and vegetable drying. For example, the nutritional content and microstructure of products were coupled with the numerical model in the future. The nutritional, structural and rheological properties of materials can be expected to be quantified and visualized during drying. The numerical models of jujube slices were established and verified under three drying modes. The characteristics of each drying were obtained after simulation. Among practitioners, the prevailing view is that the use of a discharge line made of an elastic hose allows users not only to isolate the pump unit from the rest of the system for transferred vibrations, but also to obtain the passive damping of pressure pulsation generated by the pump flow rate pulsation. The objective of the model and experimental research described in this article was to confirm or disprove the common opinion that a discharge line with an elastic hose is a sufficient element to damp the pressure pulsation caused by the displacement pump. The article presents experimental studies of the influence of various hydraulic lines on pressure pulsation damping. The research was carried out in the time and frequency domains. A mathematical model of a hydraulic long transmission line is also presented and an analysis of the parameters of hydraulic lines affecting the amplification or damping of pump pressure pulsations was carried out. • Velocity characteristics at the injection pipe outlet is affected by the pressure wave in injection pipe. • There is a backflow at the injection pipe outlet. • The amount of backflow varies against the injection pipe length and decrease under resonant condition. • A backflow may cause a heat loss by heating liquid refrigerants from the flash tank. • Reducing a backflow using the resonance is advantageous for improving the COP of vapor injection cycle. The vapor injection cycle with flash tank and two stage compressor is known as an efficient cycle. It is known that the intermediate pressure is a key factor for COP improvement and pressure change during the injection process could reduce the COP. However, the effect of the pulsating intermediate pressure of a two-stage compressor on COP is not clear. In a previous study, the authors experimentally showed that COP varied with injection pipe length. There seemed to be a correlation between COP and the resonance phenomenon caused by pressure pulsation in the injection pipe. However, the mechanism of COP improvement is not well understood. In this study, a one-dimensional simulation model was developed to clarify the mechanism and was verified with the experimental results. The simulation results show that resonance in the injection pipe does not increase the injection mass flow rate into the suction pipe. On the contrary, backflow occurs in the injection pipe and the backflow ratio is minimum in the resonant condition. Due to the high temperature of the backflow coming from the discharge pipe, the saturated vapor from the flash tank is easily heated, causing heat loss and lower COP.
