This review focuses on the importance of identifying potential fishing zones in seawater for sustainable fishing practices. It explores features like sea surface temperature (SST) and sea surface height (SSH), along with classification methods such as classifiers. The features like SST, SSH, and different classifiers used to classify the data, have been figured out in this review study. This study underscores the importance of examining potential fishing zones using advanced analytical techniques. It thoroughly explores the methodologies employed by researchers, covering both past and current approaches. The examination centers on data characteristics and the application of classification algorithms for classification of potential fishing zones. Furthermore, the prediction of potential fishing zones relies significantly on the effectiveness of classification algorithms. Previous research has assessed the performance of models like support vector machines, naïve Bayes, and artificial neural networks (ANN). In the previous result, the results of support vector machine (SVM) were 97.6% more accurate than naive Bayes's 94.2% to classify test data for fisheries classification. By considering the recent works in this area, several recommendations for future works are presented to further improve the performance of the potential fishing zone models, which is important to the fisheries community. The variability of atmosphere-ocean interactions highly influences the distribution of fishing zones in the surrounding Indonesia Through Flow (ITF) channel, such as the WPP-716 region. Therefore, the seasonal determination of the fishing zone is crucial in this zone as one of the regional fisheries managements in Indonesia. This study aims to create a potential fishing zone (PFZ) model in the Regional Fisheries Management of Indonesia (WPP-RI) 716 based on the remote sensing satellite data. This study used the daily SST data extracted from the Suomi-National Polar-Orbiting Partnership-Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (SNPP-VIIRS) image Level 2 from 2018 to 2019. A Single Image Edge Detection (SIED) method is applied to determine the PFZ points. Supporting data, such as sea current patterns, chlorophyll-a, fish-catching zones and Catch per Unit of Effort (CpUE), are also considered to bolster this study's findings. The models were validated and compared with the results established by central authority fish catch data. Of particular concern, the highest detection of PFZ is observed during the second transitional season, reaching 1835 points scattered all over the study area. The frequently detected PFZ is identified in northern Sulawesi and Sangihe Islands, where the circular eddy current observed during the second transitional season, ranging from 0.6 to 0.8 m/s, indicating upwelling (high productivity) events proven by the variability of surface temperature and chlorophyll-a and aligned with the high value of CpUE (ranging from 20 to 28 kg/GT/day). This study aims to describe the relationship between the upwelling area and the ZPPI area of ​​skipjack tuna using the Generalized Additive Model (GAM) method and to map out the distribution pattern of skipjack in Barru waters, Makassar Strait. The research was conducted in November and December 2020, located in Barru waters, Makassar Strait. The research method used two methods by collecting primary data in the form of catches by following the purse seine fishing operation in Barru and secondary data in the form of satellite imagery data on sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a. The data were analyzed using the GAM and upwelling area analysis. The upwelling area was obtained from the combination of the referred values of the two parameters. The results showed that sea surface temperature parameters had a significant effect on the catch of skipjack tuna with favored range of 28.5 - 29.7 oC. Preferred chlorophyll-a ranged from 0.15 to 0.23 mg m-3. We found that the upwelling event in the Flores sea does not have a direct effect on the distribution pattern of skipjack tuna, there is probably a time lag required after upwelling in which in turn has an impact on the distribution of skipjack tuna in the southern Malassar Strait. This research utilizes the efficiency of remotely sensed data and advanced digital image processing techniques to assist in monitoring for the management of marine fisheries in Egypt (south Mediterranean Sea region). A newly developed model is applied to the Sardinella aurita fisheries to determine optimal fishing zones, and is then applied to monitor and detect the potentially optimal fishing zones for other locally important and economic fish species. This approach depends on chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) and sea-surface temperature (SST) characteristics that are that known to control this species communities. The ranges and distribution of SST and Chl-a were obtained from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aqua as well as Sentinel-3 satellites during the period from 2018 to 2020. The results revealed that there is a strong link between Sardinella abundance and both the SST and the Chl-a concentration. The suitable months for the abundance of this pelagic fish species were defined to be from May to November, producing 75% of the catch (nearly 42 K tons). Low abundances were recorded during the months from December to April, below the suitable harvest levels for this species. This research highlighted the importance of using satellite data as a tool to help scientists to develop appropriate management strategies for the sustainable management of fisheries resources worldwide. Remotely sensed data and habitat model approach were employed to evaluate the present of oceanographic aspect in the Bigeye tuna's potential fishing zone (PFZ) at a profundity of 155 m. Vessel monitoring system was employed to acquire the angling vessels for Bigeye tuna from January through December, 2015-2016. Daily data of sub-surface temperature (Sub_ST), sub-surface chlorophyll-a (Sub_SC), and sub-surface salinity (Sub_SS) were downloaded from INDESO Project website. Vessel monitoring system and environmental data were employed for maximum entropy (maxent) model development. The model predictive achievement was then estimated applying the area under the curve (AUC) value. Maxent model results (AUC>0.745) exhibited its probable to understand the Bigeye tuna's spatial dispersion on the specific sub-surface. In addition, the results also showed Sub_ST (43,1%) was the most affective aspect in the Bigeye tuna dispersion, pursued by Sub_SC (35,2%) and Sub_SS (21,6%).

A terrain-following ocean general circulation model is implemented for simulating tidal and residual circulation patterns in the Hooghly Estuary and its adjacent coastal oceans (HECO) on the east coast of India. The model is forced with time-varying tidal levels and momentum fluxes at the eastern and southern open boundaries, and winds at the air–sea interface. Simulated tidal levels and currents are compared well with the observations. Based on model solutions, spatial patterns of semi-diurnal and diurnal tides and circulation are described. The residual circulation shows prevalence of ocean-ward along channel flow from north to south with distinct differential circulation patterns on its right and left flanks of the outer estuary. A mesoscale eddy associated with residual circulation has been occurring in the southwestern flank of the HECO, adjacent to the Digha coast. This is associated with enriched chlorophyll_a concentration (Chla), causing the region as the suitable place for the fishing activity. The residual currents in the left of the channel (toward the Sunderban) in the southeastern flank of the HECO are eastward and diverging in nature and are associated with reduced Chla. Data on potential fishing zones (PFZ), obtained from the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad, and advisories for North Andhra coast were segregated season wise and analyzed to understand the trends and the frequency of occurrences of PFZ in North Andhra coast. Plotting of data revealed location of PFZ near coastal regions during summer months. These zones moved towards deeper waters during pre-monsoon, expanding to a larger area as the monsoon progressed and moved north during post-monsoon season. Plotting also revealed that Kakinada waters have frequent PFZ hits especially nearer to the Kakinada bay. Visakhapatnam waters were observed to get high intensity of PFZ hits during Monsoon followed by those during post-monsoon and summer seasons. However in Kalingapatnam waters, high intensity of PFZ occurred during post-monsoon followed by monsoon and summer seasons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Satellite derived ocean colour (chlorophyll a) and sea surface temperature data can be used for prediction of 'Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ)' in sea. Present study elicits the benefit of satellite derived PFZ advisories in the coastal stretch (<150 m isobaths) of West Bengal, India during the period of October 2008 to February 2009, a total of 16 PFZ advisories, provided by Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), have been validated using two identical fishing crafts operated from Frasergunj fishing harbour. As a benefit, search time to locate fish schools have gone down significantly and mean catch per unit effort (CPUE) in notified area was 51.47 ± 4.30 SE kg/h, almost twofolds in comparison to the CPUE of non-notified area. It has been also observed that benefit cost ratio of each fishing trip operated in notified area varies between 1.90 and 6.40 and the range is almost double than the boats operated in non-notified areas. The technique of predicting Potential Fishing Zone using satellite derived sea surface temperature and chlorophyll is becoming an important aspect for the fishermen. In the present study an attempt has been made to compare fish density/catch per unit effort in the areas predicted by Satellite imagery and available to fishermen via electronic display boards at the fish landing centers of Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka with those of non predicted areas. Direct and Indirect validation was done. Direct method means comparing the catch using fishing vessels simultaneously in the notified region with that of catch from non notified region. And in indirect method by comparing catch data from landing centers on notified days with that of non notified days. Direct validation off Karwar showed that catch was significantly higher in notified (PFZ) area with high densities as compared to non notified (non PFZ) regions. When comparisons of landing center data of Karwar, Tadadi and Bhatkal are done it is evident that in all the centers during the period under study, higher catches were observed on notified days than non notified days except in Bhatkal centre in 2009-10.
