Accurate, detailed, and long-term urban land use mapping is crucial for urban planning, environmental assessment, and health evaluation. Despite previous efforts, mapping essential urban land use categories (EULUCs) across multiple periods remains challenging, primarily due to the scarcity of enduring consistent socio-geographical data, such as the widely used Point of Interest (POI) data. Addressing this issue, this study presents an experimental method for mapping the time-series of EULUCs in Dalian city, China, utilizing Local Climate Zone (LCZ) data as a substitute for POI data. Leveraging multi-source geospatial big data and the random forest classifier, we delineate urban land use distributions at the parcel level for the years 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, 2018, and 2020. The results demonstrate that the generated EULUC maps achieve promising classification performance, with an overall accuracy of 78% for Level 1 and 71% for Level 2 categories. Features derived from nighttime light data, LCZ, Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, and topographic data play leading roles in our land use classification process. The importance of LCZ data is second only to nighttime light data, achieving comparable classification accuracy to that when using POI data. Our subsequent correlation analysis reveals a significant correlation between POI and LCZ data (p = 0.4), which validates the rationale of the proposed framework. The visibility of retail frontages is critical for earning profits from spontaneous traffic visits to retail shops located along a street. The urban tree canopy plays a crucial role in enhancing the street-side environment, yet more is not always better when considering the placement of retail shops behind trees with big canopies. Related evidence in the literature is rarely provided, and an unclear relationship has been reported to exist between the number of shops for a specific retail type and the quantified ratio of the canopy shade in a street view. In this study, both big data crawling and deep learning were employed to unravel this relationship for retail shops in Changchun, Northeast China. The entire study area was divided into 6037 grid cells with a side length of ~0.6 km, wherein the number of shops of five retail types (food and beverage, shopping, life services, entertainment, and hotel) were quantified by computer counting their points of interest (POIs). The canopy shade was evaluated using the green view index (GVI) quantified through the ratio of canopy pixels divided by all the pixels in a street view image obtained through an online map API. A neighboring road network was categorized into four classes: class I road density mainly reduced the number of retail shops, and the road densities of classes III and IV accounted for more retail shops. The relationship between the number of retail shops and the GVI could be fitted with positive skewness curves for class II roads, where the critical peak of the GVI was estimated to be about 3.27%. The optimization scheme indicated that more retail shops should be placed along class I and II roads. Recommendation systems research is a subfield of information retrieval, as these systems recommend appropriate items to users during their visits. Appropriate recommendation results will help users save time searching while increasing productivity at work, travel, or shopping. The problem becomes more difficult when the items are geographical locations on the ground, as they are associated with a wealth of contextual information, such as geographical location, opening time, and sequence of related locations. Furthermore, on social networking platforms that allow users to check in or express interest when visiting a specific location, their friends receive this signal by spreading the word on that online social network. Consideration should be given to relationship data extracted from online social networking platforms, as well as their impact on the geolocation recommendation process. In this study, we compare the similarity of geographic locations based on their distance on the ground and their correlation with users who have checked in at those locations. When calculating feature embeddings for users and locations, social relationships are also considered as attention signals. The similarity value between location and correlation between users will be exploited in the overall architecture of the recommendation model, which will employ graph convolution networks to generate recommendations with high precision and recall. Both the physical features and social functions of urban green spaces (UGSs) are crucially important to the ecological and social benefits of urban residents. Increasing attention has been focused on exploring how UGS social functions affect the ecological and social benefits of urban residents, but the social functional classification of UGSs has rarely been studied, and related efficient classification methods are urgently needed. Thus, a novel methodological framework for accurately mapping UGS social functional zones was proposed by integrating remote sensing images, crowd-sourced geospatial data (i.e. point of interest data, the OpenStreetMap road network, and Baidu Map boundary), and a deep learning algorithm. A sequence of combination experiments and ablation experiments were designed for performance validation and for quantifying the contributions of individual crowd-sourced geospatial data to UGS social functional classification. The results showed that the proposed methodological framework can precisely and effectively map UGS social functional zones and that all kinds of crowd-sourced geospatial data contributed to improving the accuracy of UGS social functional classification. This study can assist planners and government departments in the rapid monitoring, effective management, and scientific planning of UGS social functional zones by providing accurate data sources and an effective mapping tool.

In this paper, we consider a wireless sensor network consisting of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) acting as a sink node and a number of sensor nodes scattered uncertainly on the ground. In the network, the UAV flies to a spatial point called point of interest and hovers to collect environmental data from neighboring sensor nodes. Then, the UAV proceeds to the next point of interest. The UAV must gather data from all the sensor nodes. On the other hand, a shorter round-trip air route of the UAV is more preferred since a battery-operated UAV needs regular recharging. To satisfy the requirement and to adhere to the recommendation as well, especially in the situation where only vague locational information about sensor nodes is available, we propose a scheme that follows three steps. First, it covers the sensor field of the wireless sensor network with three categories of hexagonal tessellations. Secondly, it establishes a point of interest at the centroid of each tile. Thirdly, it constructs an air route of the UAV, which visits every point of interest along a Hamiltonian cycle on the induced graph. Next, we develop a closed-form expression for the exact flight distance attained by the proposed scheme. For comparative evaluation, we discover some optimal schemes that minimize the flight distance by completely inspecting all patterns and corroborating the property of Hamiltonicity. The flight distance along the air route constructed by the proposed scheme is found to be only slightly longer than the flight distance yielded by an optimal scheme. Transitional streets serve as intermediary spaces between the Central Business Districts (CBDs) and surrounding residential areas, offering diverse functions and activities within urban interiors. However, a practical methodology for accurately classifying these streets has been lacking, due primarily to transitional areas' spatial constraints and functional complexities. This study leverages Point of Interest (PoI) data from 2023 to develop an innovative methodological framework that addresses these challenges. This framework analyses transitional streets' functional distribution and typology, employing PoI frequency density and functional type ratios to identify and classify functional zones. It generally delineates eight main types of transitional streets in the CBD of Chongqing, a prototypical hillside city. Utilising advanced data technology from internet maps, this research pioneers new approaches for identifying and analysing the functionality of transitional streets. The findings underscore the effectiveness of PoI data in precisely recognising the functional types of transitional streets, thereby providing a robust theoretical and practical foundation for the in-depth study of transitional streets. Moreover, the results enhance urban spatial planning in hillside cities of China, effectively demonstrating the advantages of PoI data in defining street typology compared to traditional methods. The growth of the tourism industry has greatly boosted the Point-of-Interest (POI) recom- mendation tasks using Location-based Social Networks (LBSNs). The ever-evolving nature of user preferences poses a major problem. To address this, we propose a Long-Term Preference Mining (LTPM) approach that utilizes the Temporal Recency (TR) measure in the visits along with the location-aware recommendation based on Spatial Proximity (SP) to the user’s location. The temporal dynamics and changing preferences are exploited based on the modified Long Short-term Memory (LSTM) that utilizes the time decay. The spatial considerations are modeled in two aspects: geographical proximity based on enhanced representation learning using orthogonal mapping. Second, the Region-of-Interest (ROI) is based on spatial griding and metric learning to capture the spatial relationships between POIs to enhance the metric space representation. The final recommendations are based on a multi-head attention mechanism that allocates the weights to different features. The combination of three models, called, LTPM-TRSP approach captures the user-POI, POI-POI, and POI-time relationships by focusing on the informative representation of sequential and spatial data. The category-aware final recommendations based on comprehensive historical behavior and geographical context are quite efficacious. The experimentation on three real-world datasets, Gowalla, Foursquare, and Weeplaces, also suggests the potency compared to other state-of-the-art approaches.

Effectively identifying urban polycentric spatial structure (UPSS) is essential for data-driven evaluation of urban performance, and it serves as a scientific basis for urban spatial planning. However, existing identification methods have limitations such as subjectivity, poor spatial continuity, and a narrow application scale. Thus, from a morphology perspective, our study proposed a rapid, highly applicable, and spatiotemporally comparable nonparametric approach for detecting morphological urban polycentric spatial structure (MUPS) by integrating remote sensing nighttime light (NTL) and point of interest (POI) data. Taking China as an object, on the basis of recognizing urban entities using NTL data, a wavelet transform was initially introduced to fuse multi-source geospatial data, thereby enhancing the spatial intricacy within a city. Then, a local spatial autocorrelation model was utilized to identify pixel clusters. Finally, post-processing was performed to optimize urban centers, subsequently calculating MUPS. Results reveal that urban entities identified based on NTL have a significant advantage in characterizing the concentration of human activities, which can ensure the accuracy of extracting MUPS. Compared with existing relevant methods, the proposed nonparametric approach avoids the misalignment of multi-temporal urban center distribution, enhancing accuracy and stability. Differentiated spatiotemporal patterns were found in the evolutionary trajectories of MUPS in China, with a progressive intensification in the degree of spatial decentralization. Our study provides valuable insights into spatiotemporal analyses of MUPS at multiple scales and serves as a foundational resource for urban spatial planning.

Vehicular fog computing (VFC), as the extension of the mobile cloud, has been widely investigated. However, in most existing VFC works, the scenario with point-of-interests (PoIs) is rarely considered, which can lead to underutilization of vehicle computing resources and overloading of the computing load for roadside units (RSUs). Therefore, this paper focuses on improving the quality of services for PoI-based VFC by utilizing the computation capabilities of vehicles to assist the RSU. An NP-hard problem is formulated to maximize the number of tasks completed within the duration of delay constraints. To solve the problem, a delay-aware task offloading algorithm, named Delay-Aware Task Offloading (DTO), is proposed. DTO preferentially operates on tasks with tighter delay constraints. To minimize the completion delay for each offloaded task, DTO selects the set of service vehicles to perform tasks. Moreover, a vehicle-resource-aware task offloading algorithm, named Vehicle-Resources-Aware Task Offloading (VRTO), is proposed to maximize the number of tasks completed within the duration of delay constraints by efficiently utilizing the available resource of the vehicle. Specifically, VRTO allocates the data to each service vehicle according to the service configuration of vehicles and the delay constraints of tasks. Finally, extensive experiments are carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. Augmented reality (AR) technology has emerged as a promising solution that can potentially reduce head-down time and increase situational awareness during navigation operations. It is also useful for remote operation centers where video feeds from remote ships can be "augmented" with data and information. In this article, we introduce a user interface design concept that supports ship navigation by showing data about points of interest in AR. This approach enables users to view and interact with relevant data in the maritime environment by bridging the gap between digital information and real-world features. The proposed concept can provide operational data from various maritime systems, such as radar, GPS, AIS, or camera systems, empowering users with a wealth of information about their surroundings. Developed through an iterative user-centered design process, it was built as an extension to the OpenBridge design system, an open-source platform facilitating consistent design in maritime workplaces. Recommendation system always involves huge volumes of data, therefore it causes the scalability issues that do not only increase the processing time but also reduce the accuracy. In addition, the type of data used also greatly affects the result of the recommendations. In the recommendation system, there are two common types of data namely implicit (binary) rating and explicit (scalar) rating. Binary rating produces lower accuracy when it is not handled with the properly. Thus, optimized K-Means+ clustering and user-based collaborative filtering are proposed in this research. The K-Means clustering is optimized by selecting the K value using the Davies-Bouldin Index (DBI) method. The experimental result shows that the optimization of the K values produces better clustering than Elbow Method. The KMeans+ and User-Based Collaborative Filtering (UBCF) produce precision of 8.6% and f-measure of 7.2%, respectively. The proposed method was compared to DBSCAN algorithm with UBCF, and had better accuracy of 1% increase in precision value. While understanding the dynamic urban network through the concept of regional centrality has provided various implications on the structure and hierarchy of cities, the macroscopic focus of previous studies has largely overlooked the small-scale physical and social urban entities in central places. Meanwhile, recent advances in real-time Point-of-Interest (POI) data have quickly replaced much of traditional urban facility data, emerging as a new representation of urban activities and demands. Therefore, this study proposes a method to identify the relationship between regional centrality and the distribution of POI facilities, particularly focused on the Seoul metropolitan area of South Korea. To this end, this study conducts a correlation analysis between regional centrality results derived from social network analysis and POI indices obtained from POI distribution analysis. The results indicate that a statistically significant relationship exists between regional centrality and the distribution of urban facilities, with a particularly strong correlation exhibited in specific POI categories. The results also demonstrate the effectiveness of the method in capturing disparities in the provision of facilities concerning growing commuting centers. The findings of the study provide pragmatic implications for prioritization and planning of facility development, as well as making informed decisions in real estate and facility investment. Traffic congestion and frequent traffic accidents have become the main problems affecting urban traffic. The effective location prediction of vehicle trajectory can help alleviate traffic congestion, reduce the occurrence of traffic accidents, and optimize the urban traffic system. Vehicle trajectory is closely related to the surrounding Point of Interest (POI). POI can be considered as the spatial feature and can be fused with trajectory points to improve prediction accuracy. A Local Dynamic Graph Spatiotemporal–Long Short-Term Memory (LDGST-LSTM) was proposed in this paper to extract and fuse the POI knowledge and realize next location prediction. POI semantic information was learned by constructing the traffic knowledge graph, and spatial and temporal features were extracted by combining the Graph Attention Network (GAT) and temporal attention mechanism. The effectiveness of LDGST-LSTM was verified on two datasets, including Chengdu taxi trajectory data in August 2014 and October 2018. The accuracy and robustness of the proposed model were significantly improved compared with the benchmark models. The effects of major components in the proposed model were also evaluated through an ablation experiment. Nighttime light (NTL) data and points of interest (POI) data offer precise visual indications of the distributional characteristics of urban spatial structures. This study employed nighttime light data and point of interest data to investigate spatial distribution patterns in Changchun, a selected study area. The built-up area was extracted from the nighttime light data, while kernel density analysis was utilized to examine the distribution of point of interest data. The processing outcomes of both datasets were gridded with spatially resolved resolution. Afterward, the fishnet tool was employed to conduct two-factor integrated mapping and visual analysis, which helped identify shared or divergent spatial coupling relationships. The results indicated a high degree of consistency in the distribution of both NTL and POI across Changchun, with 84.58% of the coupling demonstrating a concordant pattern. The spatial analysis conducted in this study showed that the heterogeneities of the coupling relationship within each administrative borough expanded outward from the center of the borough. POI provided a more accurate depiction of the spatial distribution of urban built-up areas compared to NTL, leading to a more precise representation of spatial patterns of human activity intensity. Changchun has undergone zoning adjustments, resulting in the emergence of multiple urban centers in both the central city and the surrounding administrative districts. These urban centers are gradually merging into each other. The study found that the level of spatial coupling was much higher in the central area compared to the surrounding administrative districts. This has contributed to the formation of multiple urban centers and the gradual expansion of the urban built-up area beyond the main city, indicating a trend towards regional integration and development. This study provides a more detailed and accurate description of the current distribution of urbanization and spatial structural characteristics of Changchun by investigating the spatial coupling between POI and NTL. Sentiment analysis is one of the promising approaches for developing a point of interest (POI) recommendation system. It uses natural language processing techniques that deploy expert insights from user-generated content such as reviews and feedback. By applying sentiment polarities (positive, negative, or neutral) associated with each POI, the recommendation system can suggest the most suitable POIs for specific users. The proposed study combines two models for POI recommendation. The first model uses bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) to predict sentiments and is trained on an election dataset. It is observed that the proposed model outperforms existing models in terms of accuracy (99.52%), precision (99.53%), recall (99.51%), and F1-score (99.52%). Then, this model is used on the Foursquare dataset to predict the class labels. Following this, user and POI embeddings are generated. The next model recommends the top POIs and corresponding coordinates to the user using the LSTM model. Filtered user interest and locations are used to recommend POIs from the Foursquare dataset. The results of our proposed model for the POI recommendation system using sentiment analysis are compared to several state-of-the-art approaches and are found quite affirmative regarding recall (48.5%) and precision (85%). The proposed system can be used for trip advice, group recommendations, and interesting place recommendations to specific users.

The urban functional zone (UFZ) is a basic unit of urban management and eco-environmental research. The study of the UFZ classification has been given more and more attention. In these studies, points of interest (POIs) are important and outstanding data, and both their semantic information and local spatial relationship information are important for the classification of UFZs. Many studies use the semantic information or local spatial relationship information of POIs for the UFZ classification, but owing to the lack of available models, only a few studies consider both of them. Combining POIs, Place2vec, and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) models, this paper proposes a new UFZ classification model that combines the semantic information and the local spatial relationship information of POIs. First, the principle and implementation of the model was described. Then the proposed model was applied to classify the UFZs of an experimental area (Chaoyang, a district of Beijing). By analyzing with manual interpretation results, accuracy of the classification results manifested that the model is useful for UFZ classification. By comparing the classification result of the proposed model with those of the Place2vec model and the LDA model, the advantage of this model was shown. Compared with the Place2vec model, this model integrates the semantic information of POIs into the representation of UFZs through the integration of the LDA model, thus improving the classification accuracy of UFZs. Urban spatial elements present agglomeration and dispersion geographic processes in the urban development. Identifying the characteristics of their distribution changes and accurately capturing the evolution of the urban spatial structure is of great significance to urban construction and management. This study takes Wuhan as a case study and focuses on the spatial agglomeration distribution of urban elements. Point of Interest (POI) data from 2017 to 2021 were collected, and the Block2Vec model was employed to extract the comprehensive geographic information from various elements within the traffic analysis zones (TAZs). Subsequently, identification and division were carried out to access the level of urban spatial element agglomeration. Finally, the spatial–temporal evolution characteristics of urban aggregated elements in the Wuhan metropolitan development area over five years were compared and analyzed. The results indicate the following: (1) urban elements present an obvious circle structure in their spatial agglomeration, with distinct differences observed among different element types; (2) from 2017 to 2021, the Wuhan urban development zone experienced obvious expansion in urban space; (3) increased agglomeration of spatial elements mainly occurred in the surrounding areas of the city, while some areas in the city center displayed weaker element agglomeration and a reduction in various service facilities. The results demonstrate that the method used in this study could effectively identify the spatial agglomeration distribution of urban elements, as well as accurately distinguishing regions with distinct development characteristics. How to optimize the spatial layout of the logistics industry is a challenge faced by every city under the rapid development of e-commerce nowadays. Enterprises and nodes as the core of logistics and their locational formation mechanisms are the key content of the study. Based on the API platform of Gaode Map, the POI data of Zhengzhou City with representative years during 2012–2021 were collected. Using the methods of industry concentration evaluation and nuclear density analysis, the spatial pattern changes of the logistics industry in Zhengzhou in recent years are demonstrated, the differences in location selection of the logistics industry are analyzed, and the analysis of its formation mechanism is made. The results of the study show that: (1) the logistics industry in Zhengzhou has developed rapidly in recent years, forming a "double core" spatial pattern of agglomeration near the four urban areas in the center of the metropolitan area and Xinzheng Airport, with a high degree of coordination in the agglomeration of industries and practitioners; and (2) the layout of logistics nodes is influenced by government planning, and logistics enterprises have strong autonomy in the layout. In the process of industrial agglomeration, the government guides the industry to gradually achieve agglomeration by laying out the transportation environment and providing low-rent land for industrial parks, while logistics enterprises provide services for different types of groups through segmenting specialized markets for different types of groups to provide services. With the rise in the Internet of Things (IOT), mobile devices and Location-Based Social Network (LBSN), abundant trajectory data have made research on location prediction more popular. The check-in data shared through LBSN hide information related to life patterns, and obtaining this information is helpful for location prediction. However, the trajectory data recorded by mobile devices are different from check-in data that have semantic information. In order to obtain the user's semantic, relevant studies match the stay point to the nearest Point of Interest (POI), but location error may lead to wrong semantic matching. Therefore, we propose a Self-Attention model for next location prediction based on semantic mining to predict the next location. When calculating the semantic feature of a stay point, the first step is to search for the k-nearest POI, and then use the reciprocal of the distance from the stay point to the k-nearest POI and the number of categories as weights. Finally, we use the probability to express the semantic without losing other important semantic information. Furthermore, this research, combined with sequential pattern mining, can result in richer semantic features. In order to better perceive the trajectory, temporal features learn the periodicity of time series by the sine function. In terms of location features, we build a directed weighted graph and regard the frequency of users visiting locations as the weight, so the location features are rich in contextual information. We then adopt the Self-Attention model to capture long-term dependencies in long trajectory sequences. Experiments in Geolife show that the semantic matching of this study improved by 45.78% in TOP@1 compared with the closest distance search for POI. First, it covers the sensor field of the wireless sensor network with three categories of hexagonal tessellations. Secondly, it establishes a point of interest at the centroid of each tile. Thirdly, it constructs an air route of the UAV, which visits every point of interest along a Hamiltonian cycle on the induced graph. Next, we develop a closed-form expression for the exact flight distance attained by the proposed scheme. For comparative evaluation, we discover some optimal schemes that minimize the flight distance by completely inspecting all patterns and corroborating the property of Hamiltonicity. The flight distance along the air route constructed by the proposed scheme is found to be only slightly longer than the flight distance yielded by an optimal scheme. Furthermore, the proposed scheme is proven to be practically valid when a common multicopter is employed as the sink node.

Growing attention has been directed to the use of satellite imagery and open geospatial data to understand large-scale sustainable development outcomes. Health and education are critical domains of the Unites Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), yet existing research on the accessibility of corresponding services focused mainly on detailed but small-scale studies. This means that such studies lack accessibility metrics for large-scale quantitative evaluations. To address this deficiency, we evaluated the accessibility of health and education services in mainland China in 2021 using point-of-interest data, OpenStreetMap road data, land cover data, and WorldPop spatial demographic data. The accessibility metrics used were the least time costs of reaching hospital and school services and population coverage with a time cost of less than 1 h. On the basis of the road network and land cover information, the overall average time costs of reaching hospital and school were 20 and 22 min, respectively. In terms of population coverage, 94.7% and 92.5% of the population in China has a time cost of less than 1 h in obtaining hospital and school services, respectively. Counties with low accessibility to hospitals and schools were highly coupled with poor areas and ecological function regions, with the time cost incurred in these areas being more than twice that experienced in non-poor and non-ecological areas. Furthermore, the cumulative time cost incurred by the bottom 20% of counties (by GDP) from access to hospital and school services reached approximately 80% of the national total. Low-GDP counties were compelled to suffer disproportionately increased time costs to acquire health and education services compared with high-GDP counties. The accessibility metrics proposed in this study are highly related to SDGs 3 and 4, and they can serve as auxiliary data that can be used to enhance the evaluation of SDG outcomes. The analysis of the uneven distribution of health and education services in China can help identify areas with backward public services and may contribute to targeted and efficient policy interventions.

Metro-led underground space (MUS) plays a crucial role in modern underground space utilisation. Recent studies have shown its great potential for high-quality urban development. However, limited evidence about MUS was available on a national scale, resulting in incomplete and unsystematic knowledge of MUS utilisation. The interaction relationship between MUS and the surrounding built environment also remains unclear. To fill the research gap, an automatic method for MUS identification and development features extraction was proposed based on point of interest data. We applied the method to identify the MUS in 28 Chinese cities and estimated the development status of MUS in China for the first time. The nationwide statistics of MUS and correlation analysis of development features were conducted. Results show that complex MUS (CMUS) share is significantly lower than that of simple MUS. Besides, CMUS development in China is primarily dominated by public transport and does not have a solid functional link to its surroundings. The comparative analysis of MUS development in four primary urban agglomerations was also conducted, and their development characteristics were discussed. The study aims to expand the planning toolkit and construct the MUS database, which sheds light on the data-driven planning for MUS.

Leisure agriculture is a crucial carrier for city agriculture and tourism growth. This study aims to explore the overall leisure agriculture and different types of leisure agriculture spatial sub-characteristics and their influencing factors. Taking the city of Xi'an, China, as an example, leisure agriculture was classified into four types: agritainments, agricultural parks, resorts, and rural homestays. According to this study, two ring zones and one core belt zone for leisure agriculture in Xi'an are dispersed unevenly and aggregated. Furthermore, geographic detectors and spatial principal components were employed as empirical techniques to investigate the primary factors influencing the spatial distribution of multiple leisure agriculture heterogeneity. The results about the influence mechanism indicate that the gross domestic product, population density, and accessibility to transportation dominated the overall spatial distribution, while the distance to scenic spots and water areas had a significant impact on the spatial distribution of some types. This research contributes to the reconstruction of leisure agriculture and promotes the sustainable development of agriculture and recreation by merging leisure agriculture spatial resources. Point of interest recommendation is one of the imperative tasks in location-based social networks. With the high influx of information, the recommendation has become a challenge. The collaborative filtering-based techniques have been plagued by implicit data sparsity and the presence of cold start users. To overcome such demerits, POI recommendation process must consider incorporating contextual information besides the user's check-in data. In this paper, we propose trust-aware spatial–temporal features for next POI recommendation model. To enhance the recommendation accuracy, we consider both the explicit and implicit trust of the users to decipher the POI preferences. The implicit trust is extrapolated from the user's check-in frequency, while the explicit trust is extracted based on the user's external social relations. We propose that the explicit social relations of a user encapsulate five levels of social connections: direct, transitive, temporal check-in based, location check-in based, and distance-confined social linkages. The two-phased process involves the user's neighborhood estimation to mine the propensity of the POIs for the users in the incipient phase and the neural collaborative filtering-based POI recommendation in the telic phase. The approach has been evaluated against two real-world datasets, namely Gowalla and Foursquare. Urban land-use types, such as residential and administration, can be inferred through semantic objects and their relationships. Point of interest (POI) data can serve as the semantic objects for urban land-use mapping. However, the previous POI-based approaches have rarely considered the relationships between the semantic objects in the urban land-use mapping, and three main challenges remain: 1) the lack of paired semantic object/land-use samples; 2) the lack of a unified model for semantic objects and the relationships between sematic objects and urban land use; and 3) the difficulty of automatically learning semantic object/land-use mapping relationships. In this paper, to address these issues, a graph-based urban land-use mapping framework integrating semantic object/land-use relationships (GOLR) is proposed. Based on open-source area of interest (AOI) and POI data, an urban object/land-use (UOLU) dataset covering 34 cities in China was built. To model the spatial and mapping relationships, the semantic objects and their relationships are used to jointly build an urban land-use graph. The mapping from semantic objects to urban land use can then be learned by the urban land-use graph isomorphic network (ULGIN) model. Location-based applications are increasingly popular as smartphones with navigation capabilities are becoming more prevalent. Analyzing the time spent by visitors at Points of Interests (POIs) is crucial in various fields, such as urban planning, tourism, marketing, and transportation, as it provides insights into human behavior and decision-making. However, collecting a large sample of behavioral data by using traditional survey methods is expensive and complicated. To address this challenge, this study explores the use of crowdsourcing tools, specifically Google Popular Times (GPT), as an alternative source of information to predict the time spent at POIs. The research applies a robust regression model to analyze the data obtained from GPT. The popularity trends of the different POI categories are used to indicate the peak hours of the time spent in the city of Budapest. Non-spatial parameters such as the rating, the number of reviewers, and the category of the POIs are utilized. Furthermore, a Geographic Information System (GIS) is applied to extract the spatial parameters such as the security and safety levels, the availability of car parking, and public transport (PT) stations. The robust linear models are statistically significant based on the p-values, thus indicating a strong relationship between the independent variables and the time spent at POIs. The weekday and weekend models present 69.5% and 73.9% of the variance in the time spent at POIs, respectively. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the visitors’ behavior is strongly affected by the category of the POIs variable. This study shows how GPT can be utilized to better understand, analyze, and forecast people’s behavior. The solution presented in this study can serve as an essential support of activity-based models, where the time spent is a crucial parameter for scheduling and optimizing activity chains.

Augmented reality (AR) technology has emerged as a promising solution that can potentially reduce head-down time and increase situational awareness during navigation operations. It is also useful for remote operation centers where video feeds from remote ships can be “augmented” with data and information. In this article, we introduce a user interface design concept that supports ship navigation by showing data about points of interest in AR. This approach enables users to view and interact with relevant data in the maritime environment by bridging the gap between digital information and real-world features. The proposed concept can provide operational data from various maritime systems, such as radar, GPS, AIS, or camera systems, empowering users with a wealth of information about their surroundings. Developed through an iterative user-centered design process, it was built as an extension to the OpenBridge design system, an open-source platform facilitating consistent design in maritime workplaces. Furthermore, we use this concept to propose a design framework that paves the way for establishing new standards for AR user interface design in the maritime domain.

Traffic congestion and frequent traffic accidents have become the main problems affecting urban traffic. The effective location prediction of vehicle trajectory can help alleviate traffic congestion, reduce the occurrence of traffic accidents, and optimize the urban traffic system. Vehicle trajectory is closely related to the surrounding Point of Interest (POI). POI can be considered as the spatial feature and can be fused with trajectory points to improve prediction accuracy. A Local Dynamic Graph Spatiotemporal–Long Short-Term Memory (LDGST-LSTM) was proposed in this paper to extract and fuse the POI knowledge and realize next location prediction. POI semantic information was learned by constructing the traffic knowledge graph, and spatial and temporal features were extracted by combining the Graph Attention Network (GAT) and temporal attention mechanism. The effectiveness of LDGST-LSTM was verified on two datasets, including Chengdu taxi trajectory data in August 2014 and October 2018. The accuracy and robustness of the proposed model were significantly improved compared with the benchmark models. The effects of major components in the proposed model were also evaluated through an ablation experiment. Moreover, the weights of POI that influence location prediction were visualized to improve the interpretability of the proposed model.

Point of interest (POI) data refers to information about the location and type of amenities, services, and attractions within a geographic area. This data is used in urban studies research to better understand the dynamics of a city, assess community needs, and identify opportunities for economic growth and development. POI data is beneficial because it provides a detailed picture of the resources available in a given area, which can inform policy decisions and improve the quality of life for residents. This paper presents a large-scale, standardized POI dataset from OpenStreetMap (OSM) for the European continent. The dataset's standardization and gridding make it more efficient for advanced modeling, reducing 7,218,304 data points to 988,575 without significant resolution loss, suitable for a broader range of models with lower computational demands. The resulting dataset can be used to conduct advanced analyses, examine POI spatial distributions, conduct comparative regional studies, and research to help enhance the understanding of the distribution of economic activity and attractions, and subsequently help in the understanding of the economic health, growth potential, and cultural opportunities of an area. The paper describes the materials and methods used in generating the dataset, including OSM data retrieval, processing, standardization, hexagonal grid generation, and point count aggregations. The dataset can be used independently or integrated with other relevant datasets for more comprehensive spatial distribution studies in future research.

It is of great significance for the sustainable development of steel cities to explore the relationship between the spatial pattern change in steel plants and land cover change during the transformation of steel cities. To address the issue of unsatisfactory results for segmenting steel plants based on high-resolution remote sensing images, due to insufficient sample datasets and task complexity, we proposed a steel plant segmentation strategy that combines high-resolution remote sensing images, POI data, and OSM data. Additionally, we discussed the effect of POI data and OSM data on steel plant segmentation, analyzing the spatial pattern change in steel plants in Tangshan City during 2017–2022 and its relationship with land cover change. The results demonstrate that: (1) The proposed strategy can significantly improve the accuracy of steel plant segmentation. The introduction of POI data can significantly improve the precision of steel plant segmentation, however, it will to some extent reduce the recall of steel plant segmentation, and this phenomenon weakens as the distance threshold increases. The introduction of OSM data can effectively improve the effectiveness of steel plant segmentation, however, it has significant limitations. (2) During 2017–2022, the spatial distribution center of steel plants in Tangshan City moved obviously to the southeast, and the positive change in steel plants was mainly concentrated in the coastal regions of southern Tangshan City, while the negative change in steel plants was mainly concentrated in central Tangshan City. (3) There is a relatively strong spatial correlation between the positive change in steel plants and the transition from vegetation to built area, as well as the transition from cropland to built area. The spatiotemporal patterns of residential and supporting service facilities are critical to effective urban planning. However, with growing urban sprawl and congestion, the spatial distribution patterns and evolutionary characteristics of these areas show significant uncertainty. This research was conducted for six phases from 2012 to 2022, incorporating datasets of point of interest (POI) data for residential areas and transportation facilities (RATFs) and OpenStreetMap (OSM) data. Using exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) and standard deviation ellipse, we investigated the spatiotemporal patterns and directional characteristics of RATFs in Xi'an, as well as their evolution and underlying causes. The analysis demonstrated that: (1) The spatial distribution of RATFs in Xi'an exhibits non-uniform and gradually evolving patterns, with significant spatial agglomeration characteristics over the past decade. Residential areas (RAs) exhibit a spatial autocorrelation that is high in the middle and low in the surrounding areas, while transportation facilities (TFs) exhibit spatial patterns that are high in the southern and low in the northern areas. (2) Overall, the number of RATFs has continued to increase, and they exhibit significant spatial autocorrelation. Specifically, the trend of RAs concentrating in the central city has become increasingly prominent, while TFs have expanded from the center to the north. (3) Furthermore, from the perspective of supply–demand matching, this study proposes targeted adjustment strategies for the distribution of RATFs. It provides significant references for the optimization of service facilities and provides new ideas and practical experience for urban spatial analysis methods based on multi-source data. A study of geographic information has become a significant field of concentrate in software engineering because of the expansion of much information created by electronic gadgets fit together geographic data from people, like advanced mobile phones and GPS gadgets. Area facts allow a deeper understanding of users' options and actions by bridging the gap between the physical and digital worlds. This expansion of wide geo-spatial datasets has inspired studies into novel recommender systems that aim to make users' travels and social interactions easier. This huge amount of data generated by these devices has prompted an increase in the number of research activities and procedures aimed at breaking down and recovering useful data based on these large datasets. The aim of this challenge is to study GPS directions from a variety of people, as well as examine and apply computational strategies to recover useful data from those directions, useful data from GPS directions, including areas of interest and people's proximity, and then create an instrument for information representation. This paper demonstrates how data mining techniques is used to recover valuable information from spatial data. As well as how such data can be useful in understanding people and areas within a district. Depending on the outcomes, we recommend a HITS (Hypertext Induced Topic Search) based POI recommendation calculation that can take into account the effect of social connections when recommending POIs to individual users. In the past few years, with the advent and developments of artificial intelligence, the location-based mobile services became prevalent, which produce large-scale location-based data that embeds abundant hints of user preferences on locations. Point of interest (POI) recommendation, as one of the significant mobile services, aims to recommend new satisfactory location to user according to their historical records. Existing classical POI recommendation models based on matrix factorization and collaborative filtering both face a significant challenge that they can not capture the users' preferences deeply and effectively. Hence, we propose a deep POI recommendation model (Neu-PCM), which is based on neural networks, to extract the potential correlation between user and location. First, we present a local learning and dimension-reduction network to obtain the key information. Second, we put forward a union network to mine the potential correlation effectively. Third, we build a deep matrix factorization to enhance the final prediction by correlation combination. In recent years, next location prediction has been of paramount importance for a wide range of location-based social network (LBSN) services. The influence of geographical and temporal contextual information (GTCI) is crucial for analyzing individual behaviors for personalized point-of-interest (POI) recommendations. A number of studies have considered GTCI to improve the performance of POI prediction algorithms, but they have limitations. Moreover, reviewing the related literature revealed that no research has investigated and evaluated the GTCI of LBSN data for location prediction in the form presented in this study. Here, we extended the gated recurrent unit (GRU) model by adding additional attention gates to separately consider GTCI for location prediction based on LBSN data and introduced the extended attention GRU (EAGRU) model. Furthermore, we used the flexibility of the EAGRU architecture and developed it in four states to compare the efficacy of GTCI for location prediction for LBSN users. Real-world, large-scale datasets based on two LBSNs (Gowalla and Foursquare) were used for a complete review. The results revealed that the performance of the EAGRU model was higher than that of competitive baseline methods. This paper proposes a sequential rules-based recommendation system, called STS-Rec. It addresses the main drawbacks of sequential patterns mining approaches for POI (Point of interest) recommendation by considering both temporal and social influences to perform short-term recommendations. STS-Rec first transforms mobility data into location sequences. Then, it incrementally mines sequential recommendation rules in these sequences. In contrast with standard sequential recommenders, the proposal (1) discovers rules that tolerate locations' order variations by loosening the strict ordering constraint of location sequences, (2) builds a tree-based model to incrementally mine recommendation rules, and (3) supports short and long-term POI recommendation by using a user-defined window by extracting patterns that appear within a maximum number of consecutive locations. To take the temporal influence into account, STS-Rec adapts its mining strategy to include the temporal context in location data. Hence, the conventional rule mining problem is redefined to mine time-extended recommendation rules. An experimental evaluation conducted on two large-scale real check-in datasets from Gowalla and Brightkite shows that the proposed model outperforms two state-of-the-art sequential models in terms of accuracy and coverage. Urban Functional Zone (UFZ) identification is vital for urban planning, renewal, and development. Point of Interest (POI), as one of the most popular data in UFZ studies, is transformed into a geo-corpus under specific sampling strategies, which can be used with Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology to extract geo-semantic features and identify UFZs. However, existing studies only capture a single spatial distribution pattern of POIs, while ignoring the other spatial distribution information. In this paper, we developed an integrated geo-corpus construction approach to capture multi-spatial distribution patterns of POIs that were represented by different modal POI embeddings. Subsequently, random forest model was leveraged to classify UFZs based on those embeddings. A set of combination experiments were designed for performance validation. The results show that our proposed method can effectively identify UFZs with an accuracy of 72.9%, with an improvement of 8.5% compared to the baseline methods. The outcome of this study will help urban planners to better understand UFZs through investigating the integrated spatial distribution patterns of POIs embedded in UFZs.
