This study explored options for pedagogical photo documentation in early childhood education and care (ECEC) practices to hear the voices of children, parents, and guardians in ways that make developing the documentation manageable for practitioners. Two Japanese kindergartens participated in an action research project entitled 'Wall Newspapers for Children'. Classroom teachers composed and provided daily pedagogical photo documentation focused on children's free play and later shared it with the children and their parents or guardians. A total of 194 parents and guardians completed a questionnaire about the documentation's influence. Narrative episodes of children's play revealed that the documentation mediated the following dispositions of children's participation: (1) encouraging children to participate in their new environment and get involved in subsequent play activities for several days, and (2) getting the children to develop and create play activities by themselves. The questionnaire results showed that the documentation enhanced the parents' and guardians' communication with their children and with other parents, practitioners, and children in the classroom, encouraging them to talk about their children's play and learning. Presenting oneself visually is an essential part of online behaviors on social networking sites (SNSs), and this is also the case for organizational accounts. Examining organizational self-presentation on their SNS accounts can show the key instruments through which organizations communicate online with the public. Thus, taking startups' Instagram accounts as examples, this study aims to explore what and how organizations present visually on the photos uploaded to their Instagram accounts. The photos were analyzed in terms of their content, texts in photos, and facial and pixel-level characteristics. Photos and accounts were clustered respectively and resulting clusters were compared as well. The results suggest that text and people are the major objects represented in startups' Instagram photos. The text presented in the photos was mainly about startups' efforts to realize social values that can benefit communities by aiding people to do something in a timely manner. Two photo clusters were found: one mainly represented people and people-related words and the other mainly presented texts. Two account clusters were also found: one mainly consists of IT companies that presented texts in their photos and the other mainly consists of human-related services that presented people in their photos. This study can contribute to the body of literature by identifying the visual characteristics of organizational SNS photos and expanding self-presentation research to organizational SNS accounts. Even though a collaboration between aquariums and FishBase could provide mutual benefits, effective and sustainable partnerships never really developed in the past. Aquariums could provide information on hundreds of hosted species, such as photos, morphological data, behavior, longevity, reproduction and early life stages that could be valued through FishBase to diverse applications. The Muséum-Aquarium of Nancy owns an extensive database, including > 5000 photos, based on its historical background in aquariology research. This paper summarizes the progress made in the past years and illustrates a modus operandi for data collection and formatting for other institutions wishing to collaborate with FishBase and/or SeaLifeBase. L’Afrique dispose d’un patrimoine culturel diversifié que ses peuples expriment quotidiennement. Les Camerounais, à l’image de leurs congénères africains, vivent leurs cultures respectives et les perpétuent avec les générations qui se succèdent. Le constat qui se dégage aujourd’hui dans l’expression des cultures fait état du souci qu’ont les personnes et les groupes de personnes, d’immortaliser les évènements à connotation festive qui les marquent. Si hier les souvenirs étaient conservés à travers les moyens rudimentaires d’enregistrements sonores et les prises de photos, aujourd’hui, progressivement et de manière irréversible, il s’opère une transition des modes anciens de conservation. Ceci s’observe à travers l’irruption et l’adaptation en cours des moyens modernes que proposent les technologies numériques. Cet article s’inspire des moyens « traditionnels » ou anciens de conservation des souvenirs festifs en contexte camerounais, pour montrer comment la transition s’opère vers l’appropriation du digital comme mode de conservation efficace et pérenne des évènements culturels. Dans cette perspective, il procède par une collecte de données empiriques à travers des entretiens directifs auprès de 50 enquêtés issus des ethnies dont les membres sont installés en zones urbaines et en milieux ruraux. Les résultats de la présente réflexion montrent que de moins en moins, les techniques de conservation d’autrefois sont reproduites et de plus en plus, la conservation des souvenirs d’évènements festifs bascule vers le tout numérique. Les célébrations s’immortalisent selon le modèle du numérique. Les photos et sons d’autrefois sont exhumés et conservés au moyen des technologies nouvelles. In 2018 the Bruce McArthur serial killer case became the largest forensic homicide investigation in Toronto, Canada's history. Victims of serial killers tend to be portrayed negatively by newspapers because they often embody stigmatized identities. However, this research asks, How do newspapers frame victims who belong in between marginalized and liberated identities? Under the frameworks of post-gay and intersectionality theory, the identities of many of McArthur's victims reflect an opportunity to analyze how serial killer victims are puzzlingly framed by newspapers. Through an analysis of 277 articles in three major Canadian newspapers, the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail, and the National Post, findings show that the framing of victims through textual accounts as nonpartisan is discrepant with their negative visual representations. While newspapers tend to simply frame these victims as belonging to Toronto's gay village without layering stigma around queerness onto them explicitly, most articles provide close-ups, passport photos, and occasionally mugshots of victims, ultimately portraying them in undesirable ways. This inconsistent framing between textual description and image selection highlights the important role photos, activists, and non-profits can play when featured or quoted in newspapers as they can humanize and dignify victims in the absence of family or friends to do so. This textual-visual discrepancy shows that deeply racialized queer injustices can exist in newspaper framing despite the absence of overtly prejudicial narratives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, we share some poststructuralist ideas for interacting and intra-acting with photos as visual data in qualitative inquiry. The discussion of photos as visual data has mostly drawn from representational perspectives. Furthermore, poststructuralist theorizing has been mostly utilized to discuss discursive data. Drawing from poststructuralist ideas, like Derrida's discussion of the absent-presence, we offer a poststructuralist glance at photos as spectral visual data. We view such approach as liberating of visual texts and as denotative of the unfinalizability of meaning. To illustrate our point, we engage into a dual mode of narrative, of both words and images, that is photos. Following a brief overview situating the use of photos as data within a representational framework in qualitative research, we illustrate our poststructuralist glance inspired by a Derridean framework. This paper explores work-related multi-locality – living in several places for work-related reasons – using qualitative interviews including participatory visual methods. To give space to multi-locals as people with complex living and working arrangements and to support their narratives, the visual methods work-life biographies and reflexive photography were used during interviews. After introducing the state of research on work-related multi-local living and visual methods, two German case studies, the one in the city of Stuttgart in Baden-Wuerttemberg, the other in the rural district of Diepholz in Lower Saxony, are described. The aim of this paper is to ascertain the value of using visual methods to explore multi-local living arrangements. The research questions are: (1) Which (specific) elements do multi-local employees visualise when using work-life biographies and reflexive photography ? (2) Which new insights into multi-local living arrangements do the two methods provide? (3) What are the pros and cons of using such methods within qualitative interviews? The study shows that multi-locals used common thematic elements when using the visual methods: For example, especially words, numbers, specific signs and bars in the case of biographies and certain situation, people and objects in case of the photographs. Furthermore, both methods allowed new insights into multi-local living arrangements, such as their temporal and spatial dimensions, the interplay between living and working arrangements over time as well as the place attachment of multi-locals. Using visual methods during qualitative interviews provided clear added value in studying multi-locality, as it created a suitable interview introduction, reinforced spoken statements or facilitated the discussion of sensitive topics. Participatory visual methods can be used to explore a range of topics in qualitative studies looking at participants in complex situations. When participants define and share their lives through photovoice, they can potentially become empowered as experts in their health needs. Images from photovoice exhibits confront gaps between what researchers and policy makers assume people need and what people show that they need. The exhibit is bridge to action across the socioecological spectrum and a way that photovoice studies have helped affect change at individual, interpersonal, community, institutional, and policy levels. However, for this nontraditional modality of research to be most effective in achieving its goals, substantial buy-in from participants, researchers, and policy makers is necessary. Despite the great potential of photovoice exhibits, difficulties in translating findings to social action, ethical quandaries related to participant privacy and representation, and not knowing the overall impact of exhibits on viewers can severely inhibit success. Consequently, we recommend four areas to consider for the future of exhibits: (1) understanding and measuring empowerment and change that happens for participants via photovoice exhibits, (2) considering innovative and new forms of exhibits and sharing information with the public, (3) documenting exhibit processes to produce lessons learned and guides for others, and (4) exploring the ethics and impact of exhibits on photovoice audiences. Objectives: To examine audio-recorded primary care interactions with patient-initiated photo sharing around food and diet choices.Methods: Data were 13 audio recordings of primary care visits with English-, Chinese-, or Spanish-speaking patients 60+ with two or more chronic conditions. Patients and clinicians completed pre-intervention surveys and some training on photo-taking / photo-sharing discussion. Data were analyzed using discourse analysis.Results: Photo-based communication interactions lasted 3:34-28:37 min and averaged one-third of the visit. Clinicians and patients both initiated the photo-based talk and transition to other topics occurred smoothly. In eight of 13 interactions, the photo-based communication task was raised, but conversation did not occur at that moment. When discussed, the photos raised opportunities to talk about patient's decision-making which led to dietary suggestions including clinical nutrition suggestions and referrals to other specialty clinics.Conclusion: Photo-based communication in primary care can be used to promote patient activation and facilitate collaborative decision making that accounts for the patients' lived experiences and lifeworld.Practice Implications: By setting the agenda early, clinicians or patients can designate the photo-sharing as a relevant part of the visit. Background: There are currently no validated methods for energy intake assessment in adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of collecting 3‐day image‐assisted food records (IARs) and doubly labelled water (TDEEDLW) data in adolescents with IDD and to obtain preliminary estimates of validity and reliability for energy intake estimated by IAR. Methods: Adolescents with IDD completed a 14‐day assessment of mean daily energy expenditure using doubly labelled water. Participants were asked to complete 3‐day IARs twice during the 14‐day period. To complete the IAR, participants were asked to fill out a hard copy food record over three consecutive days (two weekdays/one weekend day) and to take before and after digital images of all foods and beverages consumed using an iPad tablet provided by the study. Energy intake from the IAR was calculated using Nutrition Data System for Research. Mean differences, intraclass correlations and Bland–Altman limits of agreement were performed. Results: Nineteen adolescents with IDD, mean age 15.1 years, n = 6 (31.6%) female and n = 6 (31.6%) ethnic/racial minorities, enrolled in the trial. Participants successfully completed their 3‐day food records and self‐collected doubly labelled water urine samples for 100% of required days. Images were captured for 67.4 ± 30.1% of all meals recorded at assessment 1 and 72.3 ± 29.5% at assessment 2. The energy intake measured by IAR demonstrated acceptable test–retest reliability (intraclass correlation = 0.70). On average, IAR underestimated total energy intake by −299 ± 633 kcal/day (mean per cent error = −9.6 ± 22.2%); however, there was a large amount of individual variability in differences between the IAR and TDEEDLW (range = −1703 to 430). Conclusions: The collection of IAR and TDEEDLW is feasible in adolescents with IDD. While future validation studies are needed, the preliminary estimates obtained by this study suggest that in adolescents with IDD, the IAR method has acceptable reliability and may underestimate energy intake by ~9%. The present study addressed the effects of becoming aware of being at an authentic historic place both on affective reactions and acquisition of information about the relevant historic events. The study was conducted in a research institute located in a former National Socialist (NS) clinic, thus holding an authentic historic dimension, while at the same time, the building’s physical attributes do not resemble its history anymore. This allowed us to manipulate the participants’ awareness of being at an authentic historic place via systematic variation of prior information (neutral information about the building, general information about a historic event, information about the authenticity of the place regarding the historic event). After receiving prior information, participants had to indicate their emotional valence and arousal. They were then shown a set of photographs related to the relevant historical period or to another unrelated period in randomized order and, after a filler task, were given a memory test of the photographs. Afterwards, participants rated the study room regarding its valence and evoking arousal. It was found that awareness of being at an authentic place had a negative effect on personal mood. Furthermore, the site itself was perceived less positively when participants were aware of its NS history. However, no differences in memory performance of relevant photos were found due to history awareness. The findings indicate that being at an authentic historic place does not necessarily imply a better acquisition of relevant historical knowledge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many social networking site (SNS) users regret previous posts and post sensitive content despite the potential for negative consequences. Limited research has examined regret among SNS users, and it is unclear whether regret differs between text and graphic formats. An online survey of Australian SNS users (N = 995), compared regretted text to photo and video posts by examining demographic characteristics, psychological antecedents, post content, and consequences of posting. Feelings of regret were similar; however, regretted photo/video posts reported were related to a positive mood when posting, social motivations, and most frequently resulted in personal consequences (e.g., embarrassment). In comparison, regretted text posts were motivated by negative mood states and were more likely to result in social consequences. There might be a disconnection between what users hope to convey and how posts are perceived. SNS design that prompts users to consider the impacts of posts and to screen for offending content may reduce post regret. Interventions should encourage mindfulness of posting when upset and gaining self‐validation externally from SNS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Extensive research has been conducted on the motivations of volunteer tourists; however, the scope has not included how motivation is expressed through the posting of images on social media. This study examines the relationship between volunteer tourists' motivations and social media use through the identification of picture publishing behavior based on motivations. An online survey yielding 260 complete responses is used and statistical tests investigate the relationship between demographic factors, motivations and social sharing of photos. The results show that demographics have little impact; however, there is a relationship between motivation and photo sharing and between motivation and volume of photos. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This experiment examined the impact of photo--text congruency regarding solutions journalism. We tested the effects of solution and conflict-oriented news stories when the photo paired with the story was congruent or incongruent with the narrative. Results revealed that a solution-oriented story with a congruent photo made readers feel the most positive, but surprisingly readers were most interested in the story and reported the strongest behavioral intentions when the story was paired with a neutral photo. This paper is a result of a master's thesis, which sought to identify elements that presented changes over time (from the second half of the century to the year 2017), in everyday landscapes and practices corresponding to traditional communities known as faxinais, located in the municipality of Rebouças-PR. Referrals. Were based on the reading of scientific texts and the use of photographs of the past and he present as the main source for writing and results presentation. In this sense, it was possible to of the transformations occurred in the faxinais surveyed, in addition to the notes on the importance of developing effective public policies for this scenario. Through this research, it was also possible to identify agricultural mechanization and the insertion of new crops for trade changes in the faxinals in question, leading which may lead to their disintegration. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to assess field experiments of labour and product markets that have attached photos to identify applicants (in the case of labour markets) or sellers/crowd funders (in the case of product markets).Design/methodology/approach The experiments seek to identify the contribution of attractiveness, race/ethnicity, skin colour, sexual orientation or religion to the behaviour of agents in markets. These experiments attach photos to CV to signal attractiveness, or the basis of being tested such as race/ethnicity, skin colour or religion.Findings Many experiments report significant findings for the impact of attractiveness or the identity revealed on positive callbacks to applicants.Research limitations/implications The issue considered here, however, is to what extent it is attractiveness or other perceived characteristics that may have had an impact on the behaviour recorded in the experiments. The results of the studies covered in this paper, to a lesser extent those of Weichselbaumer (2004) and Baert (2017), are compromised by including photos, with the possibility the responses received were influenced not only by the basis being tested such as attractiveness, race/ethnicity or religion but by some other characteristic unintended by the researcher but conveyed by the photo.Practical implications There is evidence in the experimental work of a range of characteristics that photos convey of individuals and their impact on labour and product market outcomes such as success in obtaining a positive response to job applications and success in obtaining funding to finance projects in the product market. Suggestions are made for future experiments: evaluation of photos for a range of characteristics; use of a “no photo” application together with the photo applications; and evaluation of responses for any bias from unobservable characteristics using Neumark (2012).Originality/value This paper discusses for the first time three questions with some tentative answers. First, the researcher faces introducing further unobservable characteristics by using photos. Second, the researcher cannot fully control the experimental approach when using photos. Third, the researcher is able to accurately evaluate the impact of the photos used on the response/probability of call back. Field experiments using photos need to ensure they do this for the range of factors that have been shown to affect judgments and therefore potentially influence call back response. Background: People with intellectual disabilities are entitled to equitable access to psychological support. Traditional therapeutic approaches often rely on a person's ability to verbally articulate a description of their life, which can be particularly difficult for emotionally salient information.Methods: A systematic literature review was undertaken to determine the evidence base underpinning the use of participant-produced photography within therapeutic settings. Evidence across a range of specialisms was examined in order to extrapolate areas of best practice and make recommendations for its implementation alongside people with intellectual disabilities.Results: A systematic search of peer-reviewed journals identified 13 relevant documents. Participant-produced photography showed promise, although evidence pertaining specifically to people with intellectual disabilities was sparse ( n = 2).Conclusion: Participant-produced photography within therapeutic settings shows promise for people with intellectual disabilities. Methodological limitations made it difficult to derive firm conclusions regarding the effectiveness of different approaches. Implications for clinical and research practice are discussed. Since 2016, the National Library of Romania has carried out a series of events within the „Centenary 2018" national project, one of them being the series of exhibitions Romania in the First World War - 1916-1918 organized between 2016-2019. All this historical journey has been extensively documented, under its various aspects, in the pages of the album Romania in the First World War on the Way to the Great Union - 1916-1918, published with the support of the Centenary Department within the Ministry of Culture and National Identity. The volume aims to reach the deepest levels of the Romanian collective consciousness from everywhere, to elucidate and present the real and objective key steps in establishing the Romanian state, of the national evolution from the most diverse and important territories inhabited by Romanians. The album contains images that cover a wide range of documents: archive, photos, press, maps, printed music with the subject of Romania's participation in the First World War and the achievement of Greater Romania. All their originals are part of the national patrimony held by the Special Collections of the National Library of Romania and selected from the collections of the Cabinet of the Historical Archive, the Cabinet of Photography, the Cabinet of Old Romanian Periodicals, the Cabinet of Music and the Cabinet of Cartography. Also, the album contains extremely valuable social and political information, appeared in articles from the press of the time, supplemented at times with small fragments selected from reliable sources, memories, and analyzes, indicated in the bibliography. Human activities can be captured in real time using sensors. The rapid growth in sensing technology and its integration with smartphones has instigated a new paradigm of connecting sensors with social networks. These days, users actively migrate their real-life activities on online social networks (OSNs), which turns OSNs into a soft sensory resource of users' face-to-face events. In this work, we exploit OSN face-to-face (F2F) events and geographical profile information to develop an algorithm, DST, that estimates number of days spent together by a given pair of users. The algorithm learns from popular tour packages to reduce the uncertainty in the individual face-to-face event duration. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first work to estimate the amount of time people spent together, face-to-face interacting. The experimental results show that with the proposed method we get days-spent-together values close to the corresponding true values provided by the users. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article uses as empirical reference the Archives of the Technical School in the town of Centeno (Santa Fe, Argentina) with the objective of studying the tension between the speeches disclosed in written papers (documents or transcribed interviews) and the series of collected photographs. This school, founded in 1938, functioned as an exclusive women's institution of education until 1980. The students learned needlework and they graduated prepared to work in the domestic world: housewives or seamstresses, knitters or embroiderers. This education, part domestic and part professional, as corroborated in the school's documents, diminishes its imprint when photographed. The photos show female students. Social network profiles display individuals' posts and content left by their friends, such as wall posts and photo tags. Sometimes content posted and tagged by others is inconsistent with a person's desired self-image. One strategy that people use to increase the distance between their identity and content they don't like is to untag themselves. Tagging and untagging pose important questions for traditional theories of self-presentation, which describe the projection of one's own desired identity and others' response to that projection. Tagging reverses this role by allowing others to project a person's identity, and forcing that person to respond. Using de-identified, aggregated behavioral data from Facebook and a survey of 802 people, this paper aims to explore this shift by asking whether untagging occurs similarly to other self-presentation behavior and how people view this strategy. Results suggest that untagging differs from traditional self-presentation tactics in three key respects: it is used more by more experienced users, it occurs when there are gender and age differences between tagger and target, and it is seen as an easy way to mitigate the negative effects of annoying or embarrassing content. The Municipal Museum in the town of Blatná also possesses, apart from the archaeological finds themselves, important documents which have so far been unknown to the scholarly community. They have not been fully exploited and at the same time, they document the level of archaeological research in the south of Bohemia at the turn of the 20th century. These include: 1. a hand-drawn map (Figs. 2-4) showing archaeological sites (and former gold panning sites) in the vicinity of Blatná which was drawn and coloured by Josef Siblík (Fig. 1) on the basis of his excavations in around 1915. 2. a unique collection of hand-drawn and coloured pictures of finds (Figs. 5-20) originating mostly from Late Hallstatt to Early La Tène period graves whose author was František Josef Hykeš, 3. a collection of negatives and photographs of archaeological sites and finds taken by priest Jan Pavel Hille (Figs. 21-25) and 4. several diaries with manuscripts of both published and unpublished works about archaeological excavations and finds (Fig. 26-27) preserved in the estate of J. Background: With the increasing quality of smartphone cameras, taking photos has become ubiquitous. This paper investigates how smartphone photography can be leveraged to help individuals increase their positive affect. Methods: Applying findings from positive psychology, we designed and conducted a 4-week study with 41 participants. Participants were instructed to take one photo every day in one of the following three conditions: a selfie photo with a smiling expression, a photo of something that would make oneself happy and a photo of something that would make another person happy. Findings: After 3 weeks, participants' positive affect in all conditions increased. Those who took photos to make others happy became much less aroused. Qualitative results showed that those in the selfie group observed changes in their smile over time; the group taking photos to improve their own affect became more reflective and those taking photos for others found that connecting with family members and friends helped to relieve stress. The U.S. offshore wind energy industry is projected to experience a thousand-fold growth from less than 45 MW today to the target of 110 GW by 2050. The industry's modus operandi of presenting the public with 2D photos or 2D videos is inadequate as it does not resolve concerns about projects' visibility and noisiness, but rather perpetuates pre-existing erroneous beliefs. In the present study, we exposed respondents in Massachusetts to either photos, videos (2D, 360°), or immersive cinematic virtual reality displays depicting a real wind turbine. We tracked attitude shifts in a pre-post survey about the respondents' views on wind energy, including their perceptions of the wind turbine and the expected impact of a hypothetical wind project in their community. Exposure to more immersive media resulted in more positive perceptions, as well as larger and more positive changes in support for wind projects. We also found large changes in expectations about the soundscape of wind turbines, including when volume levels were not controlled in a lab. These findings suggest that traditional media (2D photos, videos) may be counterproductive for informing the public about proposed wind projects. Immersive, multimodal media (VR, 360° video) provide more accurate audiovisual information in a format that is easily understood by audiences less familiar with wind technology, leading to more positive attitudes toward wind projects. The Internet has radically changed how dogs are advertised for adoption in the United States. This study was used to investigate how different characteristics in dogs' photos presented online affected the speed of their adoptions, as a proof of concept to encourage more research in this field. The study analyzed the 1st images of 468 adopted young and adult black dogs identified as Labrador Retriever mixed breeds across the United States. A subjective global measure of photo quality had the largest impact on time to adoption. Other photo traits that positively impacted adoption speed included direct canine eye contact with the camera, the dog standing up, the photo being appropriately sized, an outdoor photo location, and a nonblurry image. Photos taken in a cage, dogs wearing a bandana, dogs having a visible tongue, and some other traits had no effect on how fast the dogs were adopted. Improving the quality of online photos of dogs presented for adoption may speed up and possibly increase the number of adoptions, thereby providing a cheap and easy way to help fight the homeless companion animal population problem. Introduction Current evidence on associations between modifiable environmental characteristics and transport-related cycling remains inconsistent. Most studies on these associations used questionnaires to determine environmental perceptions, but such tools may be subject to bias due to unreliable recall. Moreover, questionnaires only measure separate environmental characteristics, while real environments are a combination of different characteristics. To overcome these limitations, the present proof of concept study used panoramic photographs of cycling environments to capture direct responses to the physical environment. We examined which depicted environmental characteristics were associated to environments’ invitingness for transportation cycling. Furthermore, interactions with gender and participants’ cycling behavior were examined. Methods Fifty-nine middle-aged adults were recruited through purposeful convenience sampling. During a home visit, participants took part in a structured interview assessing demographics and PA during the preceding seven days, followed by an intuitive choice task and a (cognitive) rating task, which both measured 40 photographed environments’ invitingness to cycle along. Multi-level cross-classified analyses were conducted using MLwiN 2.26. Results Both tasks’ multivariate results showed that presence of vegetation was identified as the most important environmental characteristic to invite people for engaging in transportation cycling, even when the amount of vegetation was relatively small. In the bivariate analyzes, some differences between results of the cognitive rating task and the intuitive choice task were found, showing that invitingness measured by the rating task was associated with environmental maintenance and cycling infrastructure, whereas invitingness determined by the choice task was associated with more traffic-oriented characteristics. Moreover, only for the choice task’s results, moderating effects of gender and participants’ cycling behavior in the preceding week were observed. Conclusion The present study provides proof of concept that capturing people’s less cognitive, more intuitive responses to an environment’s invitingness for transport-related cycling may be important for revealing environment-behavior associations. If replicated in future studies using larger samples, results of our innovative measurements with photographs, especially those on vegetation, can complete the existing knowledge on which environmental characteristics are important for transportation cycling in adults and could form a basis to inform health promoters and local policy makers. A range of negative health outcomes are associated with young adults’ drinking practices. One key arena where images of, and interaction about, drinking practices occurs is social networking sites, particularly Facebook. This study investigated the ways in which young adults’ talked about and understood their uses of Facebook within their drinking practices. Face-to-face, semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven New Zealand young adults as they displayed, navigated and talked about their Facebook pages and drinking behaviours. Our social constructionist thematic analysis identified three major themes, namely ‘friendship group belonging’, ‘balanced self-display’ and ‘absences in positive photos’. Drinking photos reinforced friendship group relationships but time and effort was required to limit drunken photo displays to maintain an overall attractive online identity. Positive photos prompted discussion of negative drinking events which were not explicitly represented. Together these understandings of drinking photos function to delimit socially appropriate online drinking displays, effectively ‘airbrushing’ these visual depictions of young adults’ drinking as always pleasurable and without negative consequences. We consider the implications of these findings for ways alcohol health initiatives may intervene to reframe ‘airbrushed’ drinking representations on Facebook and provoke a deeper awareness among young people of drinking practices and their online displays. This project systematically identified evidence-based interventions using photography in mental health practice. The initial search of the literature produced 4,929 hits, title reviews reduced this set to 225 possible studies, abstract examination refined this list to 81, and analyzing the articles determined that only 23 meet selection criteria for inclusion in this project: psychosocial-oriented intervention within the domain of social work practice with supporting empirical data. The majority of interventions involved assignments that included taking photographs or creating some kind of photographic product (e.g., collages, time-series of snapshots). Typically, these photographic activities were done in group or individual therapy and focused on social skills, coping skills, self-esteem, or identity for adults and adolescents. The empirical support for these protocols was usually from case studies or single-group design evaluations, all reported practical or theoretically significant improvements, and three produced statistically significant effects. Previous studies have shown that adult female celebrities are more likely to be represented by sexualized images than their adult male celebrity counterparts. Even minor-aged female musicians are sometimes represented by sexualized imagery. No study has been found specifically regarding the sexualization of young female celebrities or comparing the image sexualization of those teenaged female celebrities with that of minor male celebrities. Grounded in Gerbner's Cultivation Theory, this qualitative study used content analysis to compare the sexualization of the imagery used to represent Miley Cyrus with the imagery used to represent the Jonas Brothers. Each of these two Disney-promoted musical acts has had its own television series and multiple hit songs, and Cyrus and Nick Jonas, the youngest member of the Jonas Brothers, are the same age. This study analyzed the photos on each of their official websites and official fan club sites when they were 17 years old. The subjects were analyzed for clothing, gender role and mimicry of pornography, including state of dress, poses, and headline text. Findings suggest that minor celebrities follow the same pattern seen in adult celebrities, in that the female presented sexualized dress and submissive posture as compared to demure dress and assertive posturing on the male website. This paper explores rural young people's perceptions of their local environments in relation to their experiences with physical activities through the use of visual methodologies. The main findings from map, photo and interview data from 13 rural young Australians included the importance of friends, family, and gender structures which are discussed in relation to developing a sense of place and how this shapes their experience in physical activities. The findings highlight the importance of sociocultural issues and raises questions regarding measuring physical activity prompting further qualitative research to inform sustainable and equitable physical activity promotion initiatives for rural young people. This cross-sectional survey investigates patients’ attitudes towards the use of photos of children born following infertility treatment. Each partner of 270 infertile couples independently completed a standardized questionnaire investigating patients’ attitudes towards the presence of photos of children born following infertility treatment in fertility clinics, Internet websites, brochure, and videos. Subjects (77.4%) were pleased to provide a photo of their child to hang on the walls of the fertility centre, a lower percentage of subjects desired to exhibit the photo in the fertility centre website, brochure, and video. Among subjects wishing to hang the photo of their child in the infertility centre, 60.3% wanted the name of the child on the photo and 15.3% wanted both the name and surname of the child on the photo. If a photo is explicitly requested by a member of the fertility team, 30.9% of the subjects feel to have the duty to give it. No significant difference was observed in the desire to provide a photo of the child to hang on the walls of the fertility centre according to sex of the patient. The majority of infertile patients are pleased to exhibit a photo of their babies in the fertility centre. Communication on mobile devices plays an important role in people’s use of technology for leisure, but to date this communication has largely been one-to-one. Mobile internet connectivity can support a variety of group-based messaging and media sharing scenarios. Switching to group-based messaging should enhance the social and leisure aspects of the communication, but in what ways and to what extent? An experimental system for text and photo messaging on mobile devices was tested in a research deployment to four groups of 6–8 participants who used both a group-based and one-to-one version of the system. Results highlight a significant increase in message sending, in mobile device “fun”, and in the social qualities of mobile communication when messaging group-wide, along with a few minor costs. Women’s sport magazines were launched during the mid-to-late 1990s as a response to the growing women’s sport movement in the United States. These magazines, including Real Sports, Sports Illustrated for Women, and Women’s Sports & Fitness, were marketed as more active and sport-focused than established titles such as Shape, a popular magazine launched during the early 1980s for fitness-oriented women. Shape has been criticized by scholars for reinforcing male hegemony in US culture through its emphasis on sexual difference. In the present research, we analyzed photo images presented in Sports Illustrated for Women, Women’s Sports & Fitness, and Real Sports to assess the reinforcement or rejection of sexual difference in these magazines as gauged against the presentation of sexual difference in Shape. The results show that the newer magazines do, to varying degrees, contest male hegemony more than Shape does. The impact of these magazines is discussed, and we speculate on the reasons that, although Shape continues to thrive, these magazines have ceased publication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) usage has surged substantially across the globe, particularly among adolescents and young adults. The ever-increasing prevalence of social media makes it highly convenient to access and engage with content on numerous substances, including e-cigarettes. A comprehensive dataset of 560,414 image posts with a mention of #vaping (shared from 1 June 2019 to 31 October 2019) was retrieved by using the Instagram application-programming interface. Deep neural networks were used to extract image features on which unsupervised machine-learning methods were leveraged to cluster and subsequently categorize the images. Descriptive analysis of associated metadata was further conducted to assess the influence of different entities and the use of hashtags within different categories. Seven distinct categories of vaping related images were identified. A majority of the images (40.4 %) depicted e-liquids, followed by e-cigarettes (15.4 %). Around one-tenth (9.9 %) of the dataset consisted of photos with person(s). Considering the number of likes and comments, images portraying person(s) gained the highest engagement. In almost every category, business accounts shared more posts on average compared to the individual accounts. The findings illustrate the high degree of e-cigarettes promotion on a social platform prevalent among youth. Regulatory authorities should enforce policies to restrict product promotion in youth-targeted social media, as well as require measures to prevent underage users' access to this content. With the increasing demand for confidentiality of information, traditional identification tools are no longer sufficient. As a new biological signal, EEG signal has the advantage of being difficult to forge and easy to carry and has become a hot topic in the identification research. In the study of EEG signals, the EEG signals triggered by vision have the advantage of stable characteristics. Therefore, many researchers use the photos of the subjects themselves as stimuli to achieve identification research, but the EEG signals caused by vision are easily stimulated. Object interference, such as photo size, resolution, and color. The main purpose of this paper is to study the effect of these disturbances on the recognition effect. The results show that when the number of electrodes is increased to 9, the effect of increasing the electrode to improve the classification accuracy is not significant; the recognition effect of black-and-white photos is lower than that of color, the size of the picture is 800 × 600 or 1024 × 768.
