The thermodynamic state of the atmosphere and, in particular, the mesosphere, is determined by the wave structure. Noctilucent clouds are a good indicator of these wave processes. Photographic observations of noctilucent clouds in Yakutsk were used to analyze certain characteristics of the propagation of atmospheric waves. We were first to describe the observations of the so-called mesospheric bore in noctilucent clouds over eastern Siberia, recorded synchronously with two homotypic cameras. The height of the wave front determined by the triangulation method was 79 km. The case of video recording of the propagation of a few waves of different lengths in intersecting directions in noctilucent clouds on July 25, 2018, is analyzed. Analysis of the parameters of two waves propagating towards each other showed that the first had an average length of 53.5 ± 6.2 km, an average phase velocity of 98.4 ± 12 m/s, and moved northeast. The second wave of the scallop type with an average length of 14.8 ± 1.8 km propagated southwest with an average phase velocity of 61.5 ± 6 m/s. The speed of westward wind drift of all clouds was 67 ± 5 m/s. Our results will be useful for specialists in the field of physics of wave processes in the upper atmosphere. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Body posture is an alignment of its segments relative to each other in a certain way and the relations between them. Abnormalities in the alignment of body segments or the cooperation of systems may cause postural defects. Scientific evidence shows that children of school age are more exposed to abnormalities in body posture, thus posture should be monitored because it is a key aspect of their body's physical health. This study aimed to evaluate changes in body posture parameters in the frontal plane in the same children at 5 and then 9 years of age. This four-year follow-up study included 67 children (29 girls and 38 boys) in the preschool-age and school-age phases (the first examination at 5 years of age and the second examination at 9 years of age). Measurements of body weight and height were recorded. A computerized assessment of body posture was performed using the photogrammetric method (MORA 4 Generation). The normality of the distribution of variables was assessed with the Shapiro-Wilk test. Analysis of qualitative data was carried out using Pearson's chi-squared test. The highest percentage of children exhibited a deterioration in the position of the lower corners of the scapulae, taking into account the division into sex (51.7% in girls and 50.0% in boys, respectively) and the analysis of the whole group (50.7%). There were statistically significant differences in the position of the lower corners of scapulae (UL) between the first and second examinations in all examined children (p = 0.005). The difference in the height of the waist and the position of the shoulders improved and deteriorated in a similar percentage in children (above 30--40%). Generally, an improvement in body posture was observed. However, the abnormalities of body posture that occurred indicate the need for continuous monitoring of the children's posture and for preventive and corrective measures to be implemented. The rapid wear of conical picks used in rock cutting heads in the mining industry has a significant economic impact in cost effectiveness for a given mineral extraction business. Any mining facility could benefit from decreasing the cost along with a substantial durability increase of a conical pick; thus, the hardfacing method of production and regeneration should be taken into account. In order to automatize the regeneration, the wear rate assessment is necessary. This paper presents a methodology used to create a 3D photogrammetric model of most of the commercially available tangential-rotary cutters in their before and after abrasive exploitation state. An experiment of three factors on two levels is carried out to indicate the proper setup of the scanning rig to obtain plausible results. Those factors are: light level, presence of polarizing filter and the distance from the scanned object. The 3D scan of the worn out specimen is compared to the master model via algorithm developed by the authors. This approach provides more detailed information about the wear mechanism and can help either in roadheader cutting head diagnostics or to develop a strategy and optimize the toolpath for the numerically controlled hardfacing machine. Results Girls and boys were not significantly different in body dimensions. With age, the number of overweight boys and children with normal growth-weight proportions increased. Temporary differences in posture variables indicating abnormalities were small. Conclusions There were no significant differences in somatic parameters between the girls and the boys. Those children with a slender body structure had the most abnormalities in the coronal plane. On the other hand, changes in spinal position in the sagittal plane were more frequent in overweight children. Relations were noted between the compensation index in the sagittal plane and deviation of the trunk inclination, the maximum deviation of the line of the spinous processes, and the angle of the shoulder line in the coronal plane and body mass index values were noted.

Topography is a crucial characteristic reflecting the stability status of a landslide dam. The methods for measuring landslide dam topography in a laboratory-scale test study are currently operator dependent, time-consuming, or only applicable to the measurement of the two-dimensional section. In this paper, a laboratory-scale photogrammetric method based on the structure from motion (SfM) technique was proposed to measure the three-dimensional (3D) topography of a landslide dam. The SfM technique, which is a revolutionary, low-cost, user-friendly computer vision technique, was employed for reconstructing a landslide dam 3D computer model. A scientific method to determine the topography parameters of a landslide dam was put forward. Meanwhile, two materials with different particle sizes were used to simulate the formation process of the landslide dam in the laboratory-scale. Then, the measurement results of the two materials were compared. Five parameters of a landslide dam topography with 100 parallel measurement results for each parameter were obtained. The results show that the SfM technique could build a high-quality 3D point cloud in a laboratory scale. The proposed method of determining the topography parameters of a landslide dam was useful and has low measurement uncertainty. The material type affected the sparse density of the point cloud and then affected the measurement uncertainty of landslide dam topography parameters. The measurement uncertainty of the gravel-type landslide dam was significantly higher than that of the sand-type landslide dam. This research contributes to promoting the application of a photogrammetric method based on the SfM technique in geotechnical engineering laboratory-scale tests. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Systematic observations of fetal posture show that, although for most of the time the fetus does not have a preferred posture, it has a certain repertoire of repeated active postures. The observed postures cannot be considered random configurations of head and limb position: the fetus and the young infant have an active, but variable posture that is relatively unrelated to the orientation of the force of gravity. MATERIALS AND METHOD: The study included 101 children, aged 6–7, including 50 preterm children, 48 boys and 53 girls (research group) and 51 full-term children; 22 boys and 53 girls (control group). The photogrammetric method with moire effect on Mora 4G CQ Elektronik was used to examine the body posture. RESULTS: Significant statistical differences in GAMMA (p < 0.001) and KLL (p = 0.020) parameters in preterm children and in control group were noted. Both parameters presented higher value in the control group. CONCLUSIONS: The posture of preterm children is characterized by a smaller angle of upper thoracic curvature and smaller angle of lumbar lordosis. The posture of preterm children in sitting position is characterized by a smaller angle of thoracic kyphosis. Preterm birth disturbs the development of proper antigravitational mechanism and causes possible posture dysfunctions at the age of 6. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: An important part of a healthy lifestyle for children and adolescents is exercising to satisfy the natural need for physical activity. However, young athletes should take special care when they participate in intense physical training, to ensure their proper physical development. The aim of this study was to evaluate the body posture in the sagittal plane of soccer players in comparison with healthy untrained peers. Methods: A total of 245 young males aged 8–13 who participated in the study were divided into two groups: “Group F—Footballer”, elite youth soccer players comprising 132 male athletes, and “Group C—Control group”, consisting of 113 boys from primary schools. The elite, youth soccer players played and trained in the Gold Standard Certificate Academy for their age group and belonged to the top 1% of all players from their category, respectively (Polish Soccer Association (PZPN)). The control group consisted of healthy boys from primary schools in Wroclaw not practicing any sport. A photogrammetric method based on the projection moiré phenomenon was used to assess the body posture in all subjects. Results: The analysis showed statistically significant differences in body posture parameters in the sagittal plane between the trained (F) and non-trained (C) groups. In all age groups, a significantly higher value of the upper thoracic angle and a lower value of the trunk inclination angle were observed in the football players’ group. Significant differences were also observed for the thoracic spine in each age group. In the groups of 8–9 and 12–13 years, they concerned the angle of thoracic kyphosis, and in the group of 10–11-year-old, the depth of thoracic kyphosis. In the group of children with ages 8–9 and 10–11, significantly higher values of lumbosacral angle and upper thoracic angle were observed in the group of soccer players. Conclusions: The soccer training load can influence the anterior–posterior curvature of the spine. In the group of footballers in all age groups, higher angular values of thoracic kyphosis and greater tilt of the torso forward were found, compared with their untrained peers. There were also significant differences in body posture between children of different ages, both in the group of footballers and in the group of untrained children. In the group of footballers, the differences concerned mainly the size of the lumbosacral angle and the depth of both curves, which decreased with the age of the players. A similar phenomenon was observed in the group of untrained boys but only in children in the older age groups.

This paper focuses on the use of the photogrammetric method to obtain 3D model of artworks for their characterisation and conservation. The high-resolution reproduction of a piece of art allows both the identification of constituent materials, decorative elements and detailed features and its digitalisation and enjoyment and then enhancement. In this study the approach was applied to the polychrome marble altars in the crypt of the St. Sabino's cathedral and in the St. Giacomo's church, both in Bari (Italy), significant evidences of virtuosity of Baroque sculptors and of use and reuse of precious Roman marbles combined with more recent and local stones. For this purpose, firstly, a three-dimensional model and high definition survey were performed by collection of numerous photographs and their processing using photogrammetric method and digital survey software; in addition, identification of Roman marbles and other decorative stones was carried out in terms of lithological classification, provenance locality, the historical period of employ. Results, obtained through an inexpensive, fast and complete survey, allowed to produce a high definition representation of the altars for a complete mapping of used material and decorative features and to guarantee their conservation, sharing and enhancement. Background and Purpose: Postural asymmetries may cause structural pathological conditions and impaired movement pattern. The influence of body position and awareness towards symmetry has not yet been elucidated. The aim of this study was twofold: First, to compare the body positional bilateral symmetry between standing and supine positions, and second, to examine whether the awareness to symmetry can modify posture perception and body positional bilateral symmetry.Methods: We analyzed the degree of anterior postural alignment symmetry of 34 healthy subjects by photogrammetric method (three photographs in a standing position and three in a supine position). Each photo captured different state of awareness: Subjective Comfortable Posture (SCP), Subjective Perceived Symmetrical Posture (SPSP), and Guided Posture Protocol (GPP).Results: The standing position increased the symmetrical alignment of the neck (p < 0.013) and the upper limbs (p < 0.011). However, the supine position demonstrated increased symmetrical alignment of the upper trunk (p < 0.019) and the feet (p < 0.002). In the standing position, GPP showed greater symmetry of the neck (p < 0.022), the shoulders (p < 0.014), the thorax midline (p < 0.009), the upper trunk (p < 0.000) and the upper limbs (p < 0.029). No significant changes were observed in the supine position between the three states of awareness.Conclusions: Study results indicate that the supine position shows greater degree of upper trunk's symmetrical alignment than the standing position. It also indicates that while standing, focusing attention into symmetry improves body positional bilateral symmetry. The article deals with the task of determination of wing shape for sub-sonic commercial aircraft by photogrammetric method. It provides the procedure for measurements taken on ground and in flight. It also provides the outcome of wing twist for commercial aircraft at cruise.

Study aim: Body posture changes depend on numerous factors. The purpose of this study was to assess the changes in posture in the sagittal plane of children aged 7–12 years.

Purpose: The purpose of this work was to assess the differences of the values of body posture indices, measured with the Moire's method, between girls and boys aged 13 and the relationships of these values with the results of the Y-Balance Test. Methods: The study involved a group of healthy volunteers attending junior high schools in Cracow. The group consisted of 20 girls and 35 boys. Basic somatic parameters were measured within this work: body height and weight. Body posture was assessed according to the general methodology of the Moire's technique and 14 body posture indices were obtained as a result: 6 in the sagittal plane, 1 in the axial plane and 7 in the coronal plane. Postural stability was assessed with the Y-Balance Test (YBT). Results: The studied girls and boys had practically the same body posture - statistical differences were found only in 3 out of 14 assessed indices measured with the Moire's technique. Scoliosis was found in as many as 51% of the subjects, however, mean values of deviations from the C7-S1 line were not large. Conclusions: In the group of girls, the set of blades (below - above) was statistically significantly correlated with the global YBT result for the right inferior extremity, and in the group of boys - the set of the waist triangles (below - above) was statistically significantly correlated with the global YBT results for the right and left inferior extremities. Young school-age children are particularly prone to postural defects because they are in a period of development of the spine that is exposed to a number of factors impairing its normal growth. A change in the shape of the spinal column causes a shift in the centre of gravity. Therefore, this study attempted to assess the influence of body posture on distribution of the load transferred by the lower limbs. Methods: For each of the examined children, this study determined the parameters describing the body posture with the use of the photogrammetric method and the parameters describing plantar force distribution. The statistical analyses were performed using the U Mann- Whitney test and the student's t-test. The correlations between the parameters of the body posture and the parameters describing the foot load distribution were analysed using the Pearson correlation coefficient. These analyses were performed at a statistically significant level of p < 0.05. Results: The tests conducted showed an occurrence of postural defects in about 42% of the subjects and excessively uneven loading of the lower limbs in about 65% of the children. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate correlations between parameters of anteroposterior spinal curvatures in the sagittal plane, measured with the use of photogrammetric technique and inclinometer in healthy elderly women.Methods: Randomized study involved 50 females, ranging from 50 to 70 years of age (mean 62.26 ± 6.94); mean body mass index (BMI) 27.69 ± 4.79. The examined parameters included angle of inclination in lumbosacral spine (ALFA), thoracolumbar transition (BETA), upper thoracic segment (GAMMA), angle of lumbar lordosis (LLA) and thoracic kyphosis (TKA). Results obtained with gravitational inclinometer were compared with those identified with photogrammetry method. Statistical analyses were performed with Mann-Whitney U test, regression analysis and Bland-Altman analysis.Results: In Mann-Whitney U test, with correction due to continuity, no statistically significant differences for any variable were found. Regression analysis was significant only for the variable of BETA angle. Bland-Altman coefficient for the respective angles was: ALFA 2.0%, BETA 4%, GAMMA 0%, LLA 2% and TKA 0%.Conclusions: The results acquired with gravitational inclinometer and with photogrammetric technique are comparable, as the parameters of anteroposterior spinal curvatures acquired with these two methods are found to be compatible in the case of measurements of lumbar lordosis and thoracic kyphosis. A rapid and continuous development of the machinery and equipment manufacturing capabilities is currently going on. Using CAx programs, complex elements can be made in a straightforward and very fast manner. The creation and use of spatial scanners, photogrammetric methods and spatial modelling is intensively developing, too. A complete object can be produced without the help of tactile methods, using professional 3D scanners, scanners of one's own construction, a camera, or even a cell phone with an in-built camera. The article has described the capabilities of a 3D scanner, verified its accuracy, and has also discussed the capabilities of photogrammetric methods to reconstruct machine parts.

Background: Several posture evaluation devices have been used to detect deviations of the vertebral column. However it has been observed that the instruments present measurement errors related to the equipment, environment or measurement protocol. This study aimed to build, validate, analyze the reliability and describe a measurement protocol for the use of the Posture Evaluation Rotating Platform System (SPGAP, Brazilian abbreviation).Methods: The posture evaluation system comprises a Posture Evaluation Rotating Platform, video camera, calibration support and measurement software. Two pilot studies were carried out with 102 elderly individuals (average age 69 years old, SD = ±7.3) to establish a protocol for SPGAP, controlling the measurement errors related to the environment, equipment and the person under evaluation. Content validation was completed with input from judges with expertise in posture measurement. The variation coefficient method was used to validate the measurement by the instrument of an object with known dimensions. Finally, reliability was established using repeated measurements of the known object.Results: Expert content judges gave the system excellent ratings for content validity (mean 9.4 out of 10; SD 1.13). The measurement of an object with known dimensions indicated excellent validity (all measurement errors <1 %) and test-retest reliability. A total of 26 images were needed to stabilize the system. Participants in the pilot studies indicated that they felt comfortable throughout the assessment. The use of only one image can offer measurements that underestimate or overestimate the reality. To verify the images of objects with known dimensions the values for the width and height were, respectively, CV 0.88 (width) and 2.33 (height), SD 0.22 (width) and 0.35 (height), minimum and maximum values 24.83-25.2 (width) and 14.56 - 15.75 (height). In the analysis of different images (similar) of an individual, greater discrepancies were observed in the values found. The cervical index, for example, presented minimum and maximum values of 15.38 and 37.5, a coefficient of variation of 0.29 and a standard deviation of 6.78.Conclusions: The SPGAP was shown to be a valid and reliable instrument for the quantitative analysis of body posture with applicability and clinical use, since it managed to reduce several measurement errors, amongst which parallax distortion. BACKGROUND: Nowadays, children spend increasingly more time in a seated position, both at school during class and at home in front of a computer or television. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare selected parameters describing body posture and scoliosis among children in sitting and standing positions. METHODS: It was an observational, cross-sectional study involving 91 primary school children aged 11-13 years. The children's backs were photographed in standing and sitting positions. The values of selected parameters were calculated using photogrammetric examination based on the Moire projection phenomenon. RESULTS: The results show significant statistical differences for the parameters defining the anteroposterior curves of the spine. The sitting position resulted in a decreased angle of inclination of the thoracolumbar spine, reduced depths of thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis, and pelvic asymmetry. CONCLUSIONS: Maintaining a sitting position for a long time results in advanced asymmetries of the trunk and scoliosis, and causes a decrease in lumbar lordosis and kyphosis of a child's entire spine. Wstęp: Stopa ludzka jest ważną częścią statyczno-dynamiczną narządu ruchu. Zmiany które zachodzą z wiekiem w ukształtowaniu stóp powodują pogorszenie jakości życia, utratę mobilności oraz zwiększone ryzyko upadków. Celem pracy była ocena zmian zachodzących w ukształtowaniu stóp u kobiet i mężczyzn po 60 roku życia. Materiał i Metody: W badaniach wzięło udział 70 osób (35 kobiet i 35 mężczyzn), w wieku od 60 do 90 lat, średnia wysokości ciała badanych 167±5,6 cm, średnia masy ciała 78,1±12,1 kg. Grupę kontrolną stanowiło 70 osób (35 kobiet i 35 mężczyzn) w wieku 20-25 lat wysokość ciała badanych 172±7,3, masa ciała 70±8,4. Do oceny ukształtowania stóp wykorzystano bezinwazyjną metodę fotogrametryczną opartą na zjawisku mory projekcyjnej. Wyniki: Analiza statystyczna wykazała istotne różnice w ukształtowaniu stóp osób po 60 roku życia w porównaniu do grupy kontrolnej pomiędzy większością badanych parametrów. W przypadku porównania badanych parametrów pomiędzy grupą kobiet i mężczyzn istotne różnice zachodzą jedynie w przypadku długości (P:p=0,0000; L:p=0,0000) oraz szerokości stóp (P:p=0,0017; L:p=0,0007). Pozostałe parametry nie wykazują różnic istotnych statystycznie. Wnioski: 1. Ukształtowanie stóp kobiet i mężczyzn zmienia się wraz z wiekiem. 2. Zmiany w ukształtowaniu stóp kobiet i mężczyzn po 60 roku życia w większości parametrów nie są warunkowane przez płeć. Introduction: The human foot is an important static and dynamic part of motor organ. Changes that occur with age in shaping the feet causes worsening the quality of life, loss of mobility and increased risk of falls. The aim of this study was to assess changes in the women and men's over 60's feet shape parameters. Material and Methods: Seventy people (35 women and 35 men), aged between 60 and 90 years old, mean body height 167±5.6 cm, mean weight 78.1±12. kg participated in the study. The control group consisted of 70 people (35 women and 35 men) between the age of 20 and 25, mean body height 172±7,3 cm, mean body weight 70±8,4 kg. Non-invasive photogrammetric method based on the Moiré phenomenon has been used to evaluate the feet shape parameters. Results: Statistical analysis showed significant differences in the foot shape between men and women over sixty, compared to the control group for the majority of tested parameters. Analyzing the parameters between a group of men and women, statistically significant differences were found regarding the length (P:p=0.0000; L:p=0.0000) and the width of the foot (P:p=0.0017; L:p=0.0007). The other parameters do not show statistically significant differences. Conclusions: 1. The structure and the shape of a foot among men and women depends on age. 2. Wstęp: Częstość występowania wad postawy jest różna zależnie od przyjętej metody, badacza i przyjętych norm. Celem pracy jest porównanie częstotliwości występowania wad postawy ciała wykrytych inklinometrem mechanicznym oraz metodą projekcyjną Moire'a niezależnie od przyjętych norm oraz wpływ przyjętych norm na otrzymaną diagnozę. Materiał i metody: Do badań włączono 96 dzieci (48 chłopców i 48 dziewczynek) w wieku 9-lat. U każdego z badanych wykonano pomiar przednio-tylny kręgosłupa inklinometrem mechanicznym 'Baseline' oraz metodą fotogrametryczną. Wyniki: Wyniki pomiarów kątów α, β, γ różnią się istotnie w badanych grupach (p=0,017). Diagnozę z badania fotogrametrycznego i inklinometrycznego cechuje niska zgodność (25,0-37,2%). Podobnie w przypadku porównania diagnozy z badania fotogrametrycznego z zastosowaniem dwóch różnych kryteriów, zgodność diagnozy wynosi 9,5- 42,3%, w przypadku pleców płaskich (93,5%). Wnioski: 1. Częstość wykrywania wad postawy jest uzależniona od przyjętej metody badawczej. 2. Rodzaj wykrytej wady jest zależny od przyjętych norm nawet w obrębie jednej metody badawczej. Introduction: The frequency of the appearance of abnormal spinal curvatures is different, depending on the adopted method, the researcher and the adopted norms. The aim of the study is to compare the frequency of the appearance of abnormal spinal curvatures of the body, detected with the mechanical inclinometer and the Moire method, irrespectively of the adopted norms and their influence on the received diagnosis. Material and methods: 96 subjects were involved in the examinations (48 boys and 48 girls at the age of 9). Each tested child had the anterior-posterior spine curvatures examined, with the use of the photogrammetric method and the mechanical inclinometer. Results: Results of measurements of the α , β, γ angles differ significantly in the examined groups (p=0,017). The diagnosis from the photogrametric examination and the inclinometer is characterised by a low unanimity (25,0-37,2%). Similarly in case of comparing the diagnosis from the photogrametric examination, applying two various criteria, the agreement amounts to 9,5-42,3 %, in case of the flat back (93,5%). Conclusions: 1. The frequency of the detection of abnormal spinal curvatures will depend on the applied research method 2. Background A current topic in the field of geriatrics still needing a great deal of study is the changes in body posture occurring with age. Symptoms of these changes can be observed starting between the ages of 40–50 years with a slow progression that increases after 60 years of age. The aims of this study were to evaluate parameters characterizing the posture of women over the age of 60 years compared with a control group and to determine the dynamics of body posture changes in the following decades. Methods The study included 260 randomly selected women. The study group consisted of 130 women between the ages of 60–90 years (Older Women). The control group (Younger Women) consisted of 130 women between the ages of 20–25 years (posture stabilization period). The photogrammetric method was used to evaluate body posture using the phenomenon of the projection chamber. The study was conducted according to generally accepted principles Results In the analysis of parameters characterizing individual slope curves, results were varied among different age groups. The lumbar spine slope did not show significant differences between different age groups (p = 0.6952), while statistically significant differences (p = 0.0000) were found in the thoracic-lumbar spine slope (p = 0.0033) and upper thoracic spine slope. Body angle was shown to increase with age (p = 0.0000). Thoracic kyphosis depth significantly deepened with age (p = 0.0002), however, the thoracic kyphosis angle decreased with age (p = 0.0000). An increase in asymmetries was noticed, provided by a significantly higher angle of the shoulder line (p = 0.0199) and the difference in height of the lower shoulder blade angle (p = 0.0007) measurements in the group of older women. Conclusions Changes in the parameters describing body posture throughout consecutive decades were observed. Therapy for women over the age of 60 years should involve strengthening of the erector spinae muscles and controlling body posture with the aim of reducing trunk inclination and deepening of thoracic kyphosis. In recent years, significant effort has been invested in improving the accuracy of the formability assessment of parts by various methods. The most significant progress in this area has been observed in the FE analysis, which can provide more and more accurately results. In recent years is also frequently used photogrammetric method in process of inspection and optimization. This paper was focused on these two methods, their application, comparison and results which can influence optimization process. For this purpose, GPS cover made of hot dipped galvanized mild steel DX 52 D was inspected. Simulation was performed in Autoform code which uses static implicit time integration scheme. Study Design. The study group consisted of 90 young, healthy females, aged 20 to 25 years. Three types of measurements were conducted for each female: without shoes, with 4-cm heels, and with 10-cm heels. Objective. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of high-heeled shoes on chosen parameters characterizing body posture. Summary of Background Data. For a long time, high-heeled shoes have been an attribute of femininity. Currently, there is an increasing amount of research being published investigating the effect of high-heeled shoes on selected biomechanical parameters. Methods. The study used a photogrammetric method, based on the chamber projection and Moiré phenomenon. The study was performed using predesignated points of anthropometric measures. We used 19 photogrammetric parameters characterizing body posture. Results. Results of the measurements showed no significant differences using the significance level P < 0.05 between the measurements taken with no shoes, with 4-cm high-heeled shoes, and with 10-cm high-heeled shoes. Statistically significant results were obtained only for the angle of trunk bend parameter. The value of the P coefficient in the Kruskal-Wallis analysis of variance test for the angle of trunk bend parameter was P = 0.0140. Analysis based on the multiple comparison test indicated differences between the group wearing no shoes, and those wearing 4-cm heels (P = 0.0226), and between the group wearing no shoes and the group wearing 10-cm heels (P = 0.0459). Conclusion. High-heeled shoes increased the forward inclination of the trunk. This article shows that there are only certain trends for some parameters that require further scientific investigation. Development of science and technology, apart from its obvious advantages, carries a significant threat to development and health. Technicalization and a rapid pace of living, excess of school work and other duties, limited physical activity and bad nutrition habits cause unfavourable changes in the body posture of younger Poles. The lifestyle of the young generations, which is unfavourable to their health and fitness, has resulted in increased rate of postural disorders in this population. This study aimed at investigating the changes in body posture of children at the age of 6-7. Examinations covered 348 children at the age of 6-7 from randomly chosen public kindergartens and elementary schools in Wroclaw. The research method was based on the assessment of body posture by means of photogrammetric examination and the measurement of body mass and height. The assessment of quality of posture in saggital plane was performed according to Wolafiski's criteria modified by Zeyland-Malawka, whereas body posture in the frontal and transverse plane was assessed on the basis of the values of linear and angular asymmetry indexes according to the classification Bibrowicz. A considerable percentage of faulty postures were found in the examined children. Faulty postures in saggital plane were more frequent in the group of younger children, whereas faulty postures in frontal plane were more frequent in the group of seven-year-old children. In the group of six-year olds, faulty postures were more frequent in boys, whereas, in the group of seven-year olds - in girls. The differences in the shape and size of anterior and posterior spinal curvatures and the values of asymmetry indices were not statistically significant between the girls and boys. Background: An important part of a healthy lifestyle for children and adolescents is exercising to satisfy the natural need for physical activity. However, young athletes should take special care when they participate in intense physical training, to ensure their proper physical development. The aim of this study was to evaluate the body posture in the sagittal plane of soccer players in comparison with healthy untrained peers. Methods: A total of 245 young males aged 8–13 who participated in the study were divided into two groups: "Group F—Footballer", elite youth soccer players comprising 132 male athletes, and "Group C—Control group", consisting of 113 boys from primary schools. The elite, youth soccer players played and trained in the Gold Standard Certificate Academy for their age group and belonged to the top 1% of all players from their category, respectively (Polish Soccer Association (PZPN)). The control group consisted of healthy boys from primary schools in Wroclaw not practicing any sport. A photogrammetric method based on the projection moiré phenomenon was used to assess the body posture in all subjects. Results: The analysis showed statistically significant differences in body posture parameters in the sagittal plane between the trained (F) and non-trained (C) groups. In all age groups, a significantly higher value of the upper thoracic angle and a lower value of the trunk inclination angle were observed in the football players' group. Significant differences were also observed for the thoracic spine in each age group. In the groups of 8–9 and 12–13 years, they concerned the angle of thoracic kyphosis, and in the group of 10–11-year-old, the depth of thoracic kyphosis. In the group of children with ages 8–9 and 10–11, significantly higher values of lumbosacral angle and upper thoracic angle were observed in the group of soccer players. Conclusions: The soccer training load can influence the anterior–posterior curvature of the spine. In the group of footballers in all age groups, higher angular values of thoracic kyphosis and greater tilt of the torso forward were found, compared with their untrained peers. There were also significant differences in body posture between children of different ages, both in the group of footballers and in the group of untrained children. In the group of footballers, the differences concerned mainly the size of the lumbosacral angle and the depth of both curves, which decreased with the age of the players. A similar phenomenon was observed in the group of untrained boys but only in children in the older age groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Landslide dams form when a landslide obstructs narrow and steep valleys in mountainous areas. Since these dams may fail over a short time and cause secondary geological disasters in the downstream area, the stability of such dams must be assessed in an accurate and timely manner. The three-dimensional (3-D) geometry of a landslide dam, which is one of the essential indices for stability analyses, is highly influenced by the landslide dam formation conditions, including the sliding surface dip-angle and the valley topography. However, few studies have focused on the correlation between the 3-D geometry and formation conditions of a landslide dam. A photogrammetric system was used to develop a laboratory apparatus to simulate the formation process of a landslide dam and construct a digital model for the 3-D geometry of a landslide dam in a U-shaped valley. Then, a series of experiments were designed to systematically investigate the formation process and the 3-D geometry of landslide dams under different combinations of valley bed inclinations (0, 4°, 8°, and 12°) and sliding surface dip-angles (30°, 45°, 60°, and 75°). The results indicate that the sliding surface dip-angle has a significant effect on the length and height of a landslide dam, whereas the valley bed inclination has a limited effect on the length and height compared with its effect on the relative angles of a landslide dam. In addition, the cross-sectional profiles of landslide dams can be classified into three categories, namely, symmetric, asymmetric and flat shapes, and these profiles are predominantly affected by the sliding surface dip-angle instead of the valley bed inclination. Subsequently, a mathematical model for predicting the 3-D geometry of a landslide dam was presented according to the experimental results, and it was verified by the experimental data and 42 historical cases of landslide dams. Based on the proposed model, the predicted 3-D geometry of the Tangjiashan landslide dam triggered by the Wenchuan earthquake of 2008 was consistent with its actual geometry, which confirmed the reliability of the prediction model in practical applications. This paper deals with the recomputation of the global control point network of the planet Mars. The existing Mars control point net is based on Viking data and consists of a large number of ground points, which can be easily identified in the imagery and whose three-dimensional (3D) object coordinates (e.g., latitude, longitude, and height with respect to a reference ellipsoid) are known. These coordinates were redetermined in order to eliminate several disadvantages of the former computations and to include the currently best available input data such as improved Viking trajectory information, the Viking occultation data, present rotational parameters, and the Mars Pathfinder lander data. Within a simultaneous 3D bundle block triangulation, seven interior orientation parameters, the position and attitude parametersof 1140 images, and the ground coordinates of 3739 tie points and one control point were estimated. The RMS values uX, uY, uZ of the theoretical standard deviations of the adjusted object coordinates amountto 750 m, 770 m, and 710 m, respectively, which is a significant improvement compared with former results (1 to 5 km). The accuracy of the ground point coordinates is close to the theoretical accuracy limitof 520 m in X, Y, and Z, where error-free orientation parameters areassumed. This new set of orientation parameters and ground points may now be used for local, regional, and global DTM generation; for thedetermination of reference bodies; for mapping purposes; as well as for current (Mars Global Surveyor 1996) and future (e.g., Mars Surveyor 1998 and 2001, Mars Express 2003) missions to Mars. Background: Nowadays, children spend increasingly more time in a seated position, both at school during class and at home in front of a computer or television., Objective: The aim of this study was to compare selected parameters describing body posture and scoliosis among children in sitting and standing positions., Methods: It was an observational, cross-sectional study involving 91 primary school children aged 11-13 years. The children's backs were photographed in standing and sitting positions. The values of selected parameters were calculated using photogrammetric examination based on the Moire projection phenomenon., Results: The results show significant statistical differences for the parameters defining the anteroposterior curves of the spine. The sitting position resulted in a decreased angle of inclination of the thoracolumbar spine, reduced depths of thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis, and pelvic asymmetry., Conclusions: Maintaining a sitting position for a long time results in advanced asymmetries of the trunk and scoliosis, and causes a decrease in lumbar lordosis and kyphosis of a child's entire spine. Therefore, we advocate the introduction of posture education programs for schoolchildren.
