Optical metasurfaces can be used to realize various peculiar optical effects, and their mechanisms of the controlling optical phase can be roughly categorized into three types: resonant phase, geometric phase, and propagation phase, also known as the dynamic phase. Multiple mechanisms can be employed to manipulate the phase and amplitude of one metasurface. Therefore, discovering more profound and diverse methods can provide additional degrees of application freedom. This paper proposes a control principle based on electric multipole expansion. We found that for a unit structure formed by dual-metal bars on a metasurface, the radiation of its dipole is equivalent to the interference results of the dual-metal bars. Moreover, the radiation of the quadrupole enables independent control for amplitude and phase. Therefore, we used quadrupole radiation to manipulate the phase and amplitude of the light and even investigated some simple applications, including the realization of focusing light and anomalous refraction. Such a new mechanism of controlling light, combined with other methods, can provide significant insights into achieving challenging goals, like steganography and multifunctional metasurfaces. As one of the most successful platforms of quantum control, trapped ions can be modulated by sequential microwave pulses to realize high-fidelity quantum logic gates, and dephasing noise may lead to invalidation of phase locking. In this work, we utilize the Dirac–Frenkel time-dependent variational approach with Davydov ansatz to simulate spin echo dynamics in the framework of spin-boson model. As the essential modulation parameters, pulse duration and waiting time have been comprehensively investigated to optimize the phase gates by two microwave pulses. We find that, as spin orientation undergoes periodic changes, the phase difference by acting one and two pulses exhibits spontaneous locking following time evolution, which indicates the robustness of the quantum phase gates. This paper introduces a versatile design method for reconfigurable metasurfaces based on the Pancharatnam–Berry phase theory. Unlike traditional reconfigurable metasurfaces that require designing independent surfaces for specific applications, leading to a significant time investment for designers to learn and create, this study proposes a foundational, invariant metasurface. By selectively metallizing holes or inserting metal cylinders, it achieves nine available functionalities. Regardless of the chosen operating function, the metasurface demonstrates high efficiency at 8.2 GHz, with amplitude loss less than 1 dB. Additionally, when operating in phase modulation mode, the design provides a 360 ° phase adjustment range and a 30 ° phase step. A prototype containing 31 × 31 units (425.6 × 425.6 mm 2) has been fabricated and tested under function 7 (TM and RHCP transmission phase modulation). Period phase gradient metasurface plays a great role in promoting the innovation of acoustic application devices. However, harnessing the internal thermal viscosity of the period phase gradient metasurface to realize sound absorption and non-reciprocal transmission faces the narrow working frequency band and uncontrollable efficiency. In this paper, we propose a lossy metasurface by embedded microperforated walls to realize sound redirection and absorption with high efficiency than 90% simultaneously. The phase modulation is realized using an opening channel, which can cover the 2 π phase range in a broadband frequency range by changing the channel depth. The loss introduced by the microperforated walls can achieve efficient sound energy dissipation when negative reflection occurs. The functions can be switched between wave redirection and wave absorption by rotating the metasurface. In addition, this metasurface can redirect the incident wave below −10° and absorb the incident wave above 25° over a wide frequency range from 1500 to 6500 Hz. The simulation and experiment results of our design are in excellent agreement. This research provided a new bridge to integrate wave redirection and absorption with microperforated walls and may have potential applications in acoustic sensing, sound source identification, and mechanical fault diagnosis. Manipulating photons in quantum photonic integrated circuits (QPICs) is essential for quantum communications and computation, demanding precise control over phase shifts and photon coupling. Despite the challenges arising from the low electro‐optic and thermo‐optic coefficients of glass waveguides, femtosecond laser direct writing (FsLDW) technology offers a rapid method for QPIC preparation. In this work, the use of auxiliary fields is proposed to reconfigure QPICs with FsLDW. Through adiabatic elimination, modulations of inter‐waveguide coupling are achieved, allowing for arbitrary, controllable beam‐splitting ratios and error correction in discrete quantum walking networks. The experiments also demonstrate full‐period phase shift modulation over 2π in a Mach‐Zehnder interferometer by employing an adjustable auxiliary field. Particularly, high‐quality two‐photon quantum interference and high‐fidelity quantum logic function conversion between a controlled‐NOT gate and a controlled‐PHASE gate are exhibited. In this paper, a novel radar jamming method based on random phase modulation of digital coding metasurface was proposed. For typical radar system, the modulation model of coding metasurface and the echo model are deduced firstly. Then, the ordered statistics greatest of the constant false alarm rate (OSGO-CFAR) detection model was chosen to analyze the radar detection performance. Through serials of simulation, the influence of modulation modes, modulation switching interval, the number of coding elements and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) on radar detection performance is analyzed. Finally, the Monte Carlo simulation is performed. The result shows that as the modulation switching interval of metasurface decreases, the spectrum energy distribution of the target becomes more dispersed and the detection probability of the target decreases obviously. Traditional radar detectors will become ineffective, and the shielding of the target will be achieved. The integrated design of radiation and stealth holds significant importance for radar communication and camouflage. Currently, radar systems primarily rely on radomes for off‐band stealth. However, achieving in‐band stealth by radomes and absorbing materials is challenging. Even more challenging is the dynamic control of both in‐band radiation and stealth. Therefore, a novel space‐time‐coding metasurface is proposed for radiation and stealth modes regulation. By adjusting the two PIN diodes loaded on the meta‐atom, switching between radiation and scattering modes can be achieved. A 1‐bit reflection phase can be achieved in the scattering mode. The stealth is achieved by controlling the scattering properties of the metasurface. In the radiation mode, 2‐bit phase modulation is achieved by separately controlling the PIN diodes on the meta‐atom and the 3 dB coupler. Additionally, by varying the size of the meta‐atom in the y‐polarization direction, a 1‐bit reflection phase also can be achieved. To validate the proposed radiation‐stealth metasurface characteristics, a 12 × 12 prototype is fabricated. Flexible and diverse manipulation of electromagnetic (EM) waves in half space (reflection or transmission) has facilitated strong aspiration toward full-space wave control. However, it remains challenging to achieve independent amplitude and phase control, which seriously hinder the real-world applications. Herein, an innovative strategy of trifunctional metasurface is proposed to independently and simultaneously manipulate the amplitude and phase of circular polarized waves in full space. The multifunctional design is composed of double-layer anisotropic metasurface sandwiched with a bandpass frequency selective surface, with a frequency-direction multiplexed paradigm for on-demand control of both amplitude and phase across three independent channels. To validate the concept, a multifunctional metadevice is designed and verified by simulations and experiments, showcasing arbitrary near-field and far-field power modulation in full space. Lateral and axial bifocal metalenses with desired intensity distribution are designed in two reflection channels at 9 GHz, while multibeam generator with desired spatial scatterings and power allocations is designed in transmissive channel at 13 GHz. The finding paves the way for attaining multifunctional metadevices with amplitude and phase modulation in full space, which have potential applications in high-quality imaging and high-capacity communication systems. High‐efficiency spatial light phase modulation with wide operating bandwidth is highly significant yet challenging. Dynamic metasurfaces leveraging active materials with tunable optical response provide a promising solution. Current work is generally confronted with restricted operation bandwidth and diminished modulation efficiency, constrained by the limited tunable range and inherent absorption of active materials particular at optical frequency. Recently, the emergence of lossless phase‐change material Sb2Se3 has garnered widespread attention. Its unique characteristics, including near‐zero absorption at near‐infrared and a substantial refractive index contrast ≈0.93 during phase transition, enable the possibility of high‐performance spatial light modulation. Pioneering studies have validated the capability of lossless phase‐change metasurfaces for wavefront control, but are typically restricted to limited efficiency. Here, a hybrid phase‐change metasurface utilizing over‐coupled resonances supported by Sb2Se3 nanoholes is proposed. For the first time in optical frequency, high‐efficiency 4‐level phase modulation covering over π range is experimentally demonstrated with a sizable operating bandwidth of 42 nm and a minimum reflectance of exceeding 0.5. Leveraging optically driven localized phase‐transition technique, dynamic beam deflection is further demonstrated. The work validates the tremendous potential of phase‐change metasurfaces in achieving advanced spatial light control, signifying significant progress for the development and application of phase‐change photonic devices. Compared with the amplitude modulation of conventional interrupted sampling repeater jamming (ISRJ), the image feature control method based on phase modulation exhibits greater energy efficiency and, therefore, has received wide attention recently. In this paper, an Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) image feature suppression method based on arbitrary phase encoding (APE) is proposed. The parameter design criterion is further analyzed. Through the nonperiodic segmented coding and modulation of the imaging signal in fast and slow time domains, the modulated signal produces a two-dimensional suppression region with uniform energy distribution in the ISAR image. Simulations via the measured Yak-42 aircraft data have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method for target feature control. Compared to binary phase modulation jamming, the APE method with a phase modulation accuracy of 1 degree can achieve the same jamming effect while reducing the jamming power requirement by 3 dB. Decoupling of phase and polarization is significant for multidimensional light manipulation. However, this requires traditional cascaded and parallel optical elements, resulting in a bulky and complex system. Metasurfaces can potentially replace complex optical modules as novel ultrathin planar optical elements. Herein, an ultrathin single‐layer metasurface is proposed to decouple the phase and polarization based on the Pancharatnam–Berry phase. The rotation angles of the two nanofins are employed to manipulate the phase and polarization independently, significantly simplifying the design process. Diffraction‐limited focusing with a degree of linear polarization higher than 95% is achieved for wavelengths in the 405–633 nm range. Furthermore, a metasurface can arbitrarily manipulate the relative intensity between different channels. The intensity ratio is adjusted from 0.12 to 6.62. We experimentally generate polarization spectroscopy (error) signals corresponding to the D2-line hyperfine transitions, F g = 2 → F e = 1 , 2 , 3 of 87Rb, and F g = 3 → F e = 2 , 3 , 4 of 85Rb, and show that the strongest error signals correspond to the closed hyperfine transitions (oscillator strength ∼ 0.7 ), F g = 2 → F e = 3 and F g = 3 → F e = 4 , respectively. We make the generated error signal robust to fluctuations in external parameters by finding optimum values for the vapor cell temperature and pump-probe intensities at two different beam diameters. We further employ these optimized error signals to directly (without the need for frequency/phase modulation) lock the laser frequency—reducing the rms drift/linewidth from ∼ 10 MHz to < 500 kHz, when measured over a ∼ 60 min duration. In addition, by comparing theoretically calculated and experimentally measured error signals for the pump intensities ranging from ∼ 0.1 I sat 0 − 10 I sat 0 (where, I sat 0 ∼ 1.6 mW cm−2 is the two-level saturation intensity for the Rb D2-line transitions), we discuss the applicability and limitations of existing numerical and analytical approaches based on a full multi-level rate equation model for polarization spectroscopy. A method is proposed for transferring the spectrum of an optical signal from the vicinity of one carrier frequency to the vicinity of another using an off-center chirp. This technique makes it possible to divide one channel into several using a time chirp, the duration of which is a multiple of the bit interval. Recently, intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) have emerged as potential candidates for overcoming the line-of-sight issue in 5 G/6 G wireless communication. These IRSs can manipulate the direction of reflected beams, enabling efficient beam steering to enhance the performance of wireless communication. Each unit cell (or unit structure) of an IRS commonly consists of electrical elements for phase modulation. However, by employing phase modulation alone, an IRS can steer the reflected electromagnetic waves toward only discrete and specific angles, leaving a wide range of out-of-beam areas. In this work, an IRS that uses both phase modulation and space modulation is presented to improve the beam resolution and continuously cover out-of-beam areas that phase modulation alone cannot address. A positive-intrinsic-negative diode is mounted on a unit cell for phase modulation, and a 4D-printed reconfigured structure is fabricated to demonstrate space modulation. The beam-steering function is achieved by alternating the states of the diodes in the same columns, while the beam resolution is improved by controlling the gaps between the columns. The functions are first theoretically and numerically analyzed and then experimentally verified, demonstrating that additional angles of −46°/+50°, −22°/+14°, and −16°/+12° are achieved with space modulation and −60°/+62°, −30°/+22°, and ±16° are achieved by phase modulation alone. Synchronized space vector pulse width modulation (SSVPWM) is widely employed in high‐power AC drive systems. The existing methods are carrier‐based, in which the carrier ratio, position of samples, and switching sequences used to generate every sample for a given SSVPWM are settled, which causes two problems: (i) the control delay changes, and a voltage phase modulation error appears suddenly during transition between different SSVPWMs with different carrier ratios, which causes motor current spikes; (ii) due to the particular switching sequences, some kinds of SSVPWM cannot get into six‐step operation by overmodulation. This paper proposes an improved type of SSVPWM based on switching angles, in which the carrier ratio of a given SSVPWM can change flexibly, and the problems mentioned above can be solved. Theories including switching angle calculation, overmodulation strategy, carrier ratio setting principle, and transition rules between different SSVPWM modes are given in this paper. Meanwhile, the switching angles change linearly with modulation index which makes it easy to implement, and the modulation error in the overmodulation region is effectively limited so that the proposed scheme is suitable in the whole modulation index range. We propose an innovative design for interdigital transducers (IDTs), enabling phase modulation of surface acoustic waves (SAWs) with a dislocated electrode structure. By designing the size and arrangement of these dislocated IDTs, a novel type of Airy SAWs can be generated, exhibiting self-accelerating, self-bending, and self-healing characteristics. The acceleration of the generated Airy SAW is 0.081 cm−1. Furthermore, particles and bubbles can be precisely manipulated using the generated Airy SAW. The proposed dislocated IDTs could be used for generation of many other types of SAWs, hence holding great promise for applications including SAW shaping, particle manipulation/sorting, and acoustic sensing/detection. Line‐scan mode enables rapid and high‐throughput imaging through the development of an appropriate optical transverse needle focus. Diffraction gratings allow the generation of a line focus, but they face the challenge of low light power utilization due to multiple high‐order diffractions. In addition, designing the focus requires the selection of functional materials. Atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides with high dielectric constants provide significant phase shifts to incident light by utilizing phase singularity at zero reflection. However, at zero reflection, no light power is available for utilization, necessitating a balance between phase and amplitude modulation. In this work, the aforementioned issues are addressed by designing a monolayer MoS2 based Fresnel strip metalens. An optical needle primary focus with a transverse length of 40 µm (≈80 λ, the longest value reported to date), a sub‐diffraction‐limited lateral spot, and a broad range of working wavelengths are achieved using the metalens. The metalens not only concentrate light power in the primary diffraction order by overcoming the constraint of momentum conservation but also maintains a constant phase modulation between distinct strips. The novel method for optical manipulation present here holds great promise for applications in biology, oncology, nanofabrication, energy harvesting, and optical information processing. Humans excel at extracting structurally-determined meaning from speech despite inherent physical variability. This study explores the brain's ability to predict and understand spoken language robustly. It investigates the relationship between structural and statistical language knowledge in brain dynamics, focusing on phase and amplitude modulation. Using syntactic features from constituent hierarchies and surface statistics from a transformer model as predictors of forward encoding models, we reconstructed cross-frequency neural dynamics from MEG data during audiobook listening. Our findings challenge a strict separation of linguistic structure and statistics in the brain, with both aiding neural signal reconstruction. Syntactic features have a more temporally spread impact, and both word entropy and the number of closing syntactic constituents are linked to the phase-amplitude coupling of neural dynamics, implying a role in temporal prediction and cortical oscillation alignment during speech processing. Our results indicate that structured and statistical information jointly shape neural dynamics during spoken language comprehension and suggest an integration process via a cross-frequency coupling mechanism. This study demonstrates how, during spoken language comprehension, the brain integrates syntactic and statistical features, which mutually but differentially contribute to the phase-amplitude coupling of neural signals across space and time. Electric vehicles (EVs) are rapidly replacing fossil-fuel-powered vehicles, creating a need for a fast-charging infrastructure that is crucial for their widespread adoption. This research addresses this challenge by improving the control of dual active bridge converters, a popular choice for high-power EV charging stations. A critical issue in EV battery charging is the smooth transition between charging stages (constant current and constant voltage) which can disrupt converter performance. This work proposes a novel feedforward control method using a combination of droop-based techniques combined with a sophisticated linear active disturbance rejection control system applied to a single-phase shift-modulated dual active bridge. This combination ensures a seamless transition between charging stages and enhances the robustness of the system against fluctuations in both input voltage and load. Numerical simulations using MATLAB/Simulink R2024a demonstrated that this approach not only enables smooth charging but also reduces the peak input converter current, allowing for the use of lower-rated components in the converter design. An AC (alternative current) power integration of distributed energies faces multi-fold challenges such as synchronization and weak grid-induced instability. In this study, a multi-terminal DC transformer is proposed for renewable energy clusters grid connection. The DC transformer provides multiple DC input ports for renewable energy collection, while the load port is connected to the medium-voltage DC grid via a modular multilevel converter (MMC). The multi-port topology enables flexible power transfer between multiple input sources to the load without additional components. The carrier layer modulation strategy is implemented to balance the MMC module voltage; bidirectional power transmission between multiple input sources is achieved through the phase shift modulation (PSM) method. First, we provided a detailed introduction of the proposed topology and working principle. A simulation model was built using the SIMULINK, and the simulation results verified the effectiveness of the proposed converter modulation strategy and phase shift modulation method. A corresponding hardware experimental platform was designed and built, and the modulation and voltage equalization functions of modular multilevel rectifiers were presented as well as the measured results of power transmission modulation of the converter under single-input and multi-input conditions. The results indicate that the proposed transformer can achieve multiple DC inputs and has multi-channel power transmission capabilities, making it suitable for renewable energy clusters grid connection. Microwave coincidence imaging (MCI) represents a novel forward-looking radar imaging method with high-resolution capabilities. Most MCI methods rely on random frequency modulation to generate stochastic radiation fields, which introduces the complexity of radar systems and imposes limitations on imaging quality under noisy conditions. In this paper, microwave coincidence imaging with phase-coded stochastic radiation fields is proposed, which generates spatio-temporally uncorrelated stochastic radiation fields with phase coding. Firstly, the radiation field characteristics are analyzed, and the coding sequences are designed. Then, pulse compression is applied to achieve a one-dimensional range image. Furthermore, an azimuthal imaging model is built, and a reference matrix is derived from the frequency domain. Finally, sparse Bayesian learning (SBL) and alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM)-based total variation are implemented to reconstruct targets. The methods have better imaging performance at low signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), as shown by the imaging results and mean square error (MSE) curves. In addition, compared with the SBL and ADMM-based total variation methods based on the direct frequency-domain solution, the proposed method's computational complexity is reduced, giving it great potential in forward-looking high-resolution scenarios, such as autonomous obstacle avoidance with vehicle-mounted radar and terminal guidance. Janus metasurfaces, exemplifying two‐faced 2D metamaterials, have shown unprecedented capabilities in asymmetrically manipulating the wavefront of electromagnetic waves in both forward and backward propagating directions, enabling novel applications in asymmetric information processing, security, and signal multiplexing. However, current Janus metasurfaces only allow for directional phase manipulation, hindering their broader application potential. Here, the study proposes a versatile Janus metasurface platform that can directionally control the phase and polarization of terahertz waves by integrating functionalities of half‐wave plates, quarter‐wave plates, and metallic gratings within a cascaded metasurface structure. As a proof‐of‐principle, the study experimentally demonstrates Janus metasurfaces capable of independent and simultaneous control over phase and polarization, showcasing propagation direction‐encoded focusing and polarization conversion. Moreover, the directionally focused points are utilized with distinct polarization states for advanced applications in direction‐ and polarization‐sensitive detection and imaging. This unique strategy for simultaneous phase and polarization control with direction‐dependent versatility opens new avenues for designing ultra‐compact devices with significant implications in imaging, encryption, and data storage. Wireless communications utilizing reconfigurable metasurfaces have garnered significant attention due to their capability to transmit information without traditional radio‐frequency chains. Space‐division multiplexing techniques, in particular, can be utilized to improve their channel capacity. However, most of them are only implemented through either amplitude or phase encoding. Here, a space‐division multiplexed wireless communication system with amplitude‐phase independent encoding is proposed. By designing dual beams with varying power intensity ratios, dual channels that allow for independent amplitude modulation are established. The phase between the two channels can be independently modulated based on the pattern synthesis algorithm. By using the pattern nulling technique, independent modulation between amplitude and phase can be achieved in each channel. Compared to amplitude‐only modulation, amplitude‐phase modulation offers an additional degree of freedom for carrier wave modulation, which not only increases system capacity but also enhances physical layer security through directional modulation (DM) techniques. To demonstrate this approach, sixteen scattering beams are generated using a beamforming reconfigurable metasurface, and a dual‐channel 4 amplitude phase‐shift keying (4APSK) wireless communication system is experimentally realized. The multifunctional responsive interfaces of liquid crystal (LC) and water are employed in fundamental research (colloidal assembly) and promising applications (sensing, release, and material synthesis). The stagnant LC systems, however, limit their use in continuous, automated applications. A microfluidic platform is reported where stable LC flow is maintained between aqueous interfaces. The LC‐water soft interface is defined by the preferential wetting of the two phases at the chemically heterogeneous microchannel interfaces. It is shown that the LC‐water interfaces are stable up to significant pressure differences across the interfaces and maintain responsive characteristics. The stability is in a range to cover the perpendicular and flow‐aligned regimes at low and high flow velocities, respectively, in co‐current or counter‐current flow configurations. The LC configuration at the vicinity of the aqueous interfaces is influenced by the shear induced by the bulk LC flow and by the contacting aqueous phases allowing modulation of the LC strain at the responsive interfaces. The simplicity of the construction and operation of the soft‐interface LC flow platform shows promise and meets the fundamental requirements for their integration into next‐generation autonomous platforms. Pseudo-Random Binary Sequence (PRBS) phase modulation is an effective method for suppressing the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) effect generated by narrow-linewidth fiber lasers during amplification. We noticed that backward time-domain pulses were generated when using PRBS modulation signals in fiber amplification. In this paper, the time-domain dynamic characteristics of the forward output laser and the backward Stokes light after PRBS phase modulation were studied theoretically. Through analyzing the transient SBS three-wave coupling theory and combining it with the SBS accumulation time constant, we knew that the forward and backward high-intensity pulses were caused by the long dwell time of the PRBS. For this purpose, we provided a new method for suppressing high-intensity pulses caused by a long dwell time; namely, we modified the maximum length sequence (MLS) of PRBS signals to eliminate the long dwell time, took the PRBS-9 signal at 1 GHz as an example, and then used MLS1 modulation and MLS2 modulation to compare them with unoptimized PRBS modulation. The output laser peaks of the MLS1 and MLS2 signals were reduced from ±55% to ±25% and ±10% relative to the original PRBSs, respectively, and the peaks of Stokes light were reduced from 39% to 19% and 11%, respectively. Additionally, we experimentally verified that the rational optimization of the sequence did not reduce the SBS threshold. The results provided a new method for suppressing high-intensity pulses during the amplification of a PRBS phase-modulated laser, which played an important role in the output stability of high-power narrow-linewidth fiber amplifiers. We propose and demonstrate a modulation transfer protocol to increase the detection sensitivity of a Rydberg RF receiver to fields out of resonance from the transition between Rydberg levels. This protocol is based on a phase modulation of the control field used to create the Electromagnetically Induced Transparency signal. The nonlinear wave mixing of the multi-component coupling laser and the probe laser transfers the modulation to the probe laser, which is used for the RF-field detection. The measurements compare well with semi-classical simulations of atom–light interaction and show an improvement in the RF bandwidth of the sensor and an improved sensitivity of the response to weak fields. The design of waveforms plays a critical role in integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems. An ISAC waveform with a 0dB peak‐to‐average power ratio (PAPR) is designed by combining a Golay complementary sequence with a constant envelope orthogonal frequency‐division multiplexing. By adjusting the phase modulation parameters, this waveform allows for a trade‐offs between communication and sensing capabilities. The authors focus on several key performance metrics for the proposed ISAC waveform, notably using mutual information as a holistic performance indicator to assess both sensing and communication effectiveness. Through extensive numerical simulations, the authors demonstrate that the ISAC waveform significantly enhances detection probability compared to traditional phase‐modulated waveforms. In the field of holographic imaging, high-reflectivity metasurfaces have become a crucial technology for achieving high efficiency and high-resolution image reconstruction. This study utilizes the dynamic tunability of magnesium (Mg) to numerically design an optical metasurface capable of displaying multiple holographic images in different states, achieving a reflectivity of up to 82%. In its normal state, the metasurface uses the resonance phase modulation of the metallic Mg structure to display images. Upon the introduction of hydrogen, the Mg transitions to its dielectric state, and a separate gold (Au) structure is used to modulate and display different images. The core contribution of this research lies in the application of a high-reflectivity metal layer, which enhances the imaging effects post-magnesium switching and improves the quality of image display. Underwater Visible Light Communication (UVLC) is a promising technology for high-speed data transmission in aquatic environments. However, the performance and reliability of UVLC systems are often challenged by factors such as absorption, scattering, and oceanic turbulence. In this paper, we explore various UVLC modulation techniques, analyzing both Single Carrier Modulation and Multi-Carrier Modulation schemes, including their respective advantages and limitations. Through simulations and experimental evaluations, we investigate the effectiveness of modulation strategies such as Non-Return-to-Zero On-Off Keying, Pulse Position Modulation, and Quadrature Amplitude Modulation-Carrierless Amplitude Phase Modulation in addressing the inherent challenges of UVLC. Additionally, we examine advanced techniques like Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing and space-domain index modulation, highlighting their potential to achieve higher data rates and improved reliability in UVLC systems. Our findings underscore the importance of selecting optimal modulation schemes to enhance spectral efficiency, reduce interference, and improve Bit Error Rate performance. Recent experimental advancements have showcased remarkable achievements, such as data rates exceeding 30 Gbps over distances up to 21 m, demonstrating significant progress in system reliability and transmission quality. This paper also identifies potential challenges and open research directions in UVLC, such as the need for efficient channel estimation and system configuration algorithms, contributing to the design and optimization of robust and scalable underwater communication systems. The figure-of-merit (FoM) is a crucial metric in evaluating liquid crystal (LC) phase shifters, significantly influencing the selection of superior device candidates. This paper identifies, for the first time, a fundamental limitation in the widely-used High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS), a closed-source commercial tool, when modeling reconfigurable delay line phase shifters (RDLPS) based on LC at millimeter-wave (mmW) frequencies for Beyond 5G (B5G) and Sixth-Generation (6G) applications. Specifically, the study reveals unreliable predictions of differential phase shifts (DPS) when using the line length parameterization (LLP) approach, with an accuracy of only 47.22%. These LLP-induced inaccuracies lead to misleading FoM calculations, potentially skewing comparative analyses against phase shifters implemented with different geometries or advanced technologies. Additionally, the per-unit-length (PUL) paradigm, commonly employed by microwave circuit engineers for evaluating and optimizing microwave transmission line designs, is also found to have limitations in the context of mmW RDLPS based on LC. The PUL methodology underestimates the FoM by 1.38206°/dB for an LC coaxial RDLPS at 60 GHz. These findings underscore a critical symmetry implication, where the assumed symmetry in phase shift response is violated, resulting in inconsistent performance assessments. To address these challenges, a remediation strategy based on a scenario-based "Length-for-π" (LFP) framework is proposed, offering more accurate performance characterization and enabling better-informed decision-making in mmW phase shifter design. Metasurfaces, which are ultrathin planar metamaterials arranged in certain global sequences, interact uniquely with the surrounding light field and exhibit unusual effects of light modulation. Many interesting applications have been discovered based on metasurfaces, particularly in invisibility cloaks. However, most invisibility cloaks are limited to working in specific directions. Achieving effectiveness in multiple directions requires the metasurface to be designed with both perception and modulation capabilities. Current multi-directional metasurface cloak systems are implemented with discrete components rather than an integrated sensing component. Here, we propose an intelligent metasurface cloak system that integrates sensing units, resulting in the cloaking effect with the help of a real-time direction sensor and an adaptive feedback control system. A reconfigurable reflective meta-atom based on phase modulation is presented. Sensing units replace parts of the meta-atoms in the designed tunable metasurface, integrating with an FPGA responsible for measuring the direction and frequency of the incident wave, constituting a closed-loop system together with the feedback parts. Experimental results demonstrate that the metasurface cloak system can recognize the different directions of the incoming wave, and can adaptively manipulate the reflected phase of EM waves to conceal objects without any human participation. Quasi‐2D perovskite thin films hold great promise for creating highly efficient and stable optoelectronic devices. Regulating the intermediate phase during crystallization is crucial for determining film quality, directly impacting device performance. In this study, the bifunctional molecule L‐carnitine is introduced into the quasi‐2D precursor solution to modulate the intermediate phase during crystallization. The results demonstrate that the strong coordination between L‐carnitine and PbI2 effectively impedes the combination of PbI2 and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), preventing the formation of the PbI2·DMSO intermediate phase. This elimination of the intermediate phase mitigates the potential hazards associated with DMSO escape during subsequent annealing, significantly enhancing film quality. Furthermore, the bifunctional groups in L‐carnitine interact with the perovskite, effectively passivating film defects and enhancing thermal and illumination stability. As a result, the L‐carnitine‐modified quasi‐2D perovskite photodetector exhibits outstanding performance, with a responsivity of 2724 mA W−1 and a detectivity of 9.10 × 1010 Jones. This research proposes a novel strategy to regulate intermediate phases during crystallization and passivate defects synergistically, enabling the production of high‐quality perovskite films and high‐performance perovskite optoelectronic devices. We study the nonlinear dynamics of perturbed, spectrally stable T-periodic stationary solutions of the Lugiato–Lefever equation (LLE), a damped nonlinear Schrödinger equation with forcing that arises in nonlinear optics. It is known that for each N ∈ N , such a T-periodic wave train is asymptotically stable against NT-periodic, i.e. subharmonic, perturbations, in the sense that initially nearby data will converge at an exponential rate to a (small) spatial translation of the underlying wave. Unfortunately, in such results both the allowable size of initial perturbations as well as the exponential rates of decay depend on N and, in fact, tend to zero as N → ∞ , leading to a lack of uniformity in the period of the perturbation. In recent work, the authors performed a delicate decomposition of the associated linearized solution operator and obtained linear estimates which are uniform in N. The dynamical description suggested by this uniform linear theory indicates that the corresponding nonlinear iteration can only be closed if one allows for a spatio-temporal phase modulation of the underlying wave. However, such a modulated perturbation is readily seen to satisfy a quasilinear equation, yielding an inherent loss of regularity. We regain regularity by transferring a nonlinear damping estimate, which has recently been obtained for the LLE in the case of localized perturbations to the case of subharmonic perturbations. Thus, we obtain a nonlinear, subharmonic stability result for periodic stationary solutions of the LLE that is uniform in N. This in turn yields an improved nonuniform subharmonic stability result providing an N-independent ball of initial perturbations which eventually exhibit exponential decay at an N-dependent rate. Finally, we argue that our results connect in the limit N → ∞ to previously established stability results against localized perturbations, thereby unifying existing theories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dynamic beam scanning with a dynamically tunable beam number, beam direction, and beam polarization remains a challenge in the terahertz gap, which is urgently needed for terahertz radar, next-generation wireless communication, and imaging applications. Different from programmable metasurfaces with element-level phase control, the beam direction is dynamically controlled by two cascaded all-dielectric metasurfaces during in-plane rotation. For a pair of circularly polarized beams with opposite handedness, the scanning field of view (FOV) can be the same or different according to the independent phase modulation in both layers and for both polarization states. Switchable single-beam and dual-beam scanning is achieved by controlling the incident polarization, which covers the ±60° FOV at 0.291 THz with an angular step of 1° and an average gain of 16.2 dBi. The output beam is quasi-circular polarized with an average ellipticity of 0.83. Single beam scanning along a Fibonacci spiral trajectory and dual beam scanning along symmetric and asymmetric trajectories are experimentally validated. Different beam scanning processes are recorded using a terahertz camera, which show good agreement with the theoretical prediction. The wide field-of-view continuous beam scanning with a switchable number of beams and a flexible FOV may have a significant impact on the development of terahertz radar and terahertz intelligent antennas. This paper proposes a novel feedforward control scheme to achieve a very smooth transition from Constant Current (CC) to Constant Voltage (CV) charging modes, the commonly used method for electric vehicle charging applications. Furthermore, a three-loop model-independent Linear Active Disturbance Rejection Control (LADRC)-based system is proposed, replacing the traditional two-loop Proportional-Integral (PI) control system. The extra loop performs a decoupled dq vector control of the inductor current, which is typically not used in single-phase Dual Active Bridge (DAB) systems. This additional loop not only facilitates the optimal determination of both internal and external phase shift angles of a Dual-Phase Shift (DPS) modulator but also lowers the peak input current of the converter, allowing for lower-rated switches. Numerical simulations using MATLAB/Simulink demonstrate the robustness of the proposed control strategy against both input voltage disturbances and load disturbances during the transition from CC to CV charging modes. [Objective] As automated drilling technologies become more prevalent, the demand for data communication while drilling has significantly risen, leading to increased requirements for downhole data communication systems. Currently, pressure wave data communication, which utilizes mud as the transmission medium, is the leading technology in these systems. The core component of these systems is the mud pressure wave generator (MPWG), which produces pressure wave signals with specific phases by adjusting the flow area of the mud through the operation of a rotary valve. Therefore, phase modulation of pressure wave signals and the control method of the rotary valve are critical technologies for the MPWG. Unlike conventional phase modulation methods, the phase of the pressure wave signal cannot change abruptly. Additionally, the drilling mud scours the rotary valve, introducing torque disturbances that make it challenging for the valve to accurately reach the desired position, ultimately reducing the quality of the pressure wave signal. [Methods] To tackle the issues of phase modulation of pressure wave signals and rotary valve position control, this paper proposes a lower sideband constant envelope smooth phase modulation method for pressure signals. Under the condition of maintaining a constant pressure wave amplitude, we introduce a parameter called the adjustable symbol transition time ratio (ASTTR) to achieve smooth phase modulation, along with a lower-sideband modulation method designed to reduce power consumption. Following this, a rotary valve position control system for the MPWG is designed. The speed and position controllers are designed using the active disturbance rejection control algorithm to ensure accurate tracking of the rotary valve position setpoint, even in the presence of external disturbance torques. Finally, a testing device is developed that integrates torque loading, parameter tuning, and data management functions to validate the proposed methods. This device allows for teaching experiments and testing of the MPWG to be conducted without the need for hydraulic circulation. [Results] Two experiments were conducted using the testing device. In Experiment 1, the valve control performance was evaluated under constant and fluctuating torque disturbances. The transmitted symbols of the MPWG are {0, 1, 0, 0, 1, 1}, the symbol period is 0.333 s, and the carrier frequency is 18π rad/s. When the ASTTR is set to 1, the position control errors under constant and fluctuating torque disturbances are 0.039 rad and 0.040 rad, respectively. When the ASTTR is set to 0.5, the position control errors are 0.059 rad and 0.058 rad under constant and fluctuating torque disturbances, respectively. The test results indicated that smooth phase modulation was successfully achieved. Moreover, a larger ASTTR, which facilitates smoother changes in the position setpoint, corresponds to smaller position tracking errors. Additionally, the tracking errors for the same position setpoint under different torque disturbances are similar, indicating that the control system performs effectively in the presence of torque disturbances. In Experiment 2, the power consumption of conventional double-sideband modulation is compared to that of the proposed lower-sideband modulation. The average power consumption for double-sideband modulation was 35.2 W, whereas the average power consumption for the proposed method is 32.6 W, demonstrating a 7.4% reduction in power consumption. [Conclusions] The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively achieves smooth phase modulation of pressure wave signals and disturbance rejection control of the rotary valve. Furthermore, the proposed method and experimental device exhibit multidisciplinary integration characteristics, enhancing students' ability to address real-world complex engineering problems. Metasurfaces can replace bulk optical components in a more compact form factor in applications including communication systems, sensors, and manufacturing technology. However, their design and fabrication is challenging due to competing demands of selecting meta-atoms that simultaneously provide the required amplitude and phase modulation while being robust to fabrication errors. Here, we develop two design heuristics to assist with the down-selection of meta-atoms into sensitivity-informed libraries, based on either selecting meta-atoms with minimal sensitivity or minimizing the relative sensitivities between meta-atoms. Pumped storage power stations have flexible functions such as peak shaving, frequency regulation, phase modulation, and emergency backup, which can suppress the fluctuation of new energy output, promote new energy consumption, and improve the safe and stable operation level of the power grid. However, under the current two part tariff system, the rotating reserve value of pumped storage power stations in the power grid has not been fully reflected. This article takes the complementarity of wind power, photovoltaic, and pumped storage power stations as the background, constructs a day-ahead scheduling model for pumped storage power stations considering the requirement of rotating reserve. The goal is to maximize the operational revenue of the pumped storage power station and minimize the peak valley difference in the output of other power plants in the power grid. By using the weight method, the multi-objective problem is transformed into a single objective optimization problem to solve. Furthermore, the impacts of the current two part tariff and peak valley electricity price on the scheduling strategy and the operational profit of pumped storage power stations are analyzed and compared. The calculation results show that considering the requirement of rotational reserve can significantly improve the operating profit of pumped storage power stations, and the scheduling objectives have a significant impact on the operation mode of the power station. Full-colour-sorting metalens using few nanostructured layers have recently generated considerable interest as high-sensitivity colour image sensors because of their reliability and high resolution. Based on the guided mode resonance principle and propagation phase modulation, a full-colour-sorting metalens is designed, which can theoretically obtain any wavelength of light from the incident white light and realize arbitrary wavelength focusing with the same focal length in the visible range. Without the loss of generality, we propose a prototype of such metalens used for sorting blue, green and red light from the visible spectrum commonly used in practical applications. The maximum focussing efficiency is over 50% with a relatively high numerical aperture of 0.7. The proposed full-colour-sorting metalens can be used in many applications, such as colour mixing, colour holography, colour filtering, wavelength division multiplexing and so on. Encrypted acoustic meta‐holograms have potential applications in confidential acoustic information communication, noise control, acoustic cloaking, acoustic illusion, etc. Conventional encrypted optical and acoustic meta‐holograms only focus on the encrypted hologram in a single channel, viz. modulating spatial amplitude to project a holographic image. Here, the concept of an amplitude‐phase dual‐channel encrypted acoustic meta‐hologram (DrEAM) is proposed, capable of generating, encrypting, and decrypting both amplitude and phase holographic images. This unique concept of "phase holographic image" introduces a new degree of freedom for meta‐holograms, leading to dual‐channel encrypted acoustic holography. Acoustic metasurface with simultaneous amplitude and phase modulations is employed to realize this dual‐channel encryption. The findings may offer the possibility to increase the capacity of the encrypted acoustic meta‐holograms, which can lead to practical applications in, for example, multi‐channel acoustic field communications, complex noise control, and acoustic illusions. Blue perovskite light‐emitting diodes (PeLEDs) are crucial avenues for achieving full‐color displays and lighting based on perovskite materials. However, the relatively low external quantum efficiency (EQE) has hindered their progression towards commercial applications. Quasi‐two‐dimensional (quasi‐2D) perovskites stand out as promising candidates for blue PeLEDs, with optimized control over low‐dimensional phases contributing to enhanced radiative properties of excitons. Herein, the impact of organic molecular dopants on the crystallization of various n‐phase structures in quasi‐2D perovskite films. The results reveal that the highly reactive bis(4‐(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)phosphine oxide (BTF‐PPO) molecule could effectively restrain the formation of organic spacer cation‐ordered layered perovskite phases through chemical reactions, simultaneously passivate those uncoordinated Pb2+ defects. Consequently, the prepared PeLEDs exhibited a maximum EQE of 16.6 % (@ 490 nm). The finding provides a new route to design dopant molecules for phase modulation in quasi‐2D PeLEDs. Controlled cross‐linking of polymer dielectric poly (4‐vinylphenol) (PVP) is demonstrated as an effective tool in enhancing the performance of flexible organic synaptic transistors (OSTs). Investigation of variation of concentration of the cross‐linking agent methylated poly (melamine‐co‐formaldehyde) (PMCF) in PVP in bilayer combination with high‐k hafnium oxide (HfO2) as gate dielectric in devices shows that the lower concentration of cross‐linking agent results in better memory performance. OSTs with 26% PMCF concentration in PVP (by mass) exhibit excellent memory performance with memory window > 4 V for VGS sweep of ±5 V, static retention of ≈104 s, dynamic retention for 500 cycles, and ≈125 continuous program/erase cycles. Pulse paired facilitation with relaxation time constants of 370 and 4670 ms respectively for slow and rapid phases with regulating modulation amplitude of ≈1 resemble a biological synapse. Through excitatory post synaptic current characteristics, spike timing dependant plasticity and spike voltage dependant plasticity are clearly observed, with low energy consumption per spike on the order of 10 pJ. Further, by leveraging the intricate interconnected data transfer and computation phenomenon, "AND" logic is effectively implemented using these OSTs. In this letter, we address the problem of designing the joint waveform of radar detection, wireless communication and jamming. In the current most powerful filter‐bank multi‐carrier comb spectrum framework, a parameter‐agile time–frequency structure between symbols is elaborated to improve the uncertainty of waveform generation architecture. Furthermore, a novel composite modulation strategy that combines intra‐symbol chaos‐based radar frequency modulation and inter‐symbol chaos‐based phase modulation is proposed for a substantial jamming performance improvement. Simulation results verify that the proposed joint waveform produces a superior jamming performance while satisfying the requirements of radar detection and wireless communication. Phase change materials (PCM) have greatly contributed to optics with applications ranging from rewritable memories to smart windows. This is possible thanks to the variation in optical properties that PCMs undergo upon thermally‐induced phase change. However, this behavior is accompanied by a loss of optical transparency in one (or more) of their phases, posing a major limitation for transmission‐based functionalities. Here this challenge is addressed by producing PCM‐based composites that remain transparent in the visible spectrum during their phase transition. The cornerstone of this innovative material is the use of 30 nm‐in‐size nanoparticles of paraffin as PCMs, which minimizes the scattering within the polymer host matrix regardless of the paraffin's phase. To demonstrate the potential of this approach, it is shown that thin composite layers can modulate the phase of the incident visible light using temperature, achieving uniform phase profiles with maximum phase shifts up to π radians. Notably, the composites studied exhibit up to threefold larger phase changes for the same input power over reference thermo‐optical materials like polydimethylsiloxane. These findings position paraffin‐based composites as promising materials for various thermo‐optical applications, including wavefront shaping and aberration correction, with the potential to significantly impact a variety of optical technologies. Tuning the activity, selectivity, and stability of electrocatalysts for the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (eCO2RR) is of high interest. Among the multitude of possible eCO2RR products, formic acid/formate is not only of high industrial importance but even more importantly it can be obtained at nearly 100 % Faradaic efficiency if suitable catalysts are employed for the eCO2RR. Recently, two distinct strategies to modulate the eCO2RR over Bi‐based catalysts, namely phase modulation and functionalization with organic ligands, have come to the fore. Manipulation of wavefront lies at the core of next‐generation information technologies. Compared to metal and dielectric metasurfaces, atomic 2D materials exhibit excellent prospects toward fulfilling ultra‐thin thickness requirements in flat optics in wavefront shaping, with thickness much smaller than those of traditional bulky devices. However, phase manipulation by light propagating through atomic 2D materials is suppressed due to its sub‐nanometer thickness. Here, an approach is reported to realize reflection phase singularities by establishing a zero‐reflection point in a monolayer MoS2‐based multilayer system, which broadens topological study beyond polarization singularity. This is achieved through the creation of a multilayer Fabry‐Perot‐type interference, and a pronounced phase change in the reflected light is realized due to the high absorption of monolayer MoS2 in the studied wavelength range. As an application, a rapid, sensitive, and label‐free detection of SARS‐CoV‐2 (2019‐nCov) antigen is demonstrated with a detection limit of 10−12 M L−1 (62 pg ml−1) by using monolayer MoS2 based optical biosensor. In addition to offering a comprehensive study in phase singularity, efficient wavefront engineering based on the reflective system using materials is presented with atomic thickness which may greatly simplify optical architecture in flat optics, and promote its development toward compactness and integrated functions. A degenerated four‐wave‐mixing (FWM) process in single‐crystal (CH3NH3)PbBr3 (MAPbBr3) is reported, where 150‐fs laser pulses at 1.33 µm are employed as the pump. Two pump photons interact with a single crystal, producing another two photons with higher and lower energies, respectively. One of the FWM‐generation sidebands is tuned from ∼1.23 to 1.21 µm and the other from ∼1.43 to 1.48 µm for the center wavelength, as the pump fluence is increased from 2.6 to 11.69 mJ cm−2. The self‐phase modulation induced by the strong pump pulses through the optical Kerr effect is responsible for the tuning dynamics. Transient spectroscopy not only verifies the FWM scheme for the interacting waves but also reveals the interference dynamics between the FWM‐generated sidebands and the probe pulse. In particular, the angular dependence of the FWM generation supplies direct evidence for the phase‐matching geometry. Using experimental data, a nonlinear refractive index coefficient of 1.19 × 10−14 cm2 W−1 at 1.33 µm for single‐crystal MAPbBr3 is determined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Asymmetric spin–orbit interaction (ASOI) breaks the limitations in conjugate symmetry of traditional geometric phase metasurfaces, bringing new opportunities for various applications such as spin-decoupled holography, imaging, and complex light field manipulation. Since anisotropy is a requirement for spin–orbit interactions, existing ASOI mainly relies on meta-atom with C1 and C2 symmetries, which usually suffer from an efficiency decrease caused by the propagation phase control through the structural size. Here, we demonstrate for the first time that ASOI can be realized in meta-atoms with rotational symmetry ≥3 by combining the generalized geometric phase with the propagation phase. Utilizing an all-metallic configuration, the average diffraction efficiency of the spin-decoupled beam deflector based on C3 meta-atoms reaches ∼84 % in the wavelength range of 9.3–10.6 μm, which is much higher than that of the commonly used C2 meta-atoms with the same period and height. This is because the anisotropy of the C3 metasurface originates from the lattice coupling effect, which is relatively insensitive to the propagation phase control through the meta-atom size. A spin-decoupled beam deflector and hologram meta-device were experimentally demonstrated and performed well over a broadband wavelength range.
