Personality traits are often measured using person-descriptive terms, but data are limited regarding the frequency of usage for these terms in everyday language. This project reports on the relative frequency of usage for a large pool of American English terms (N = 18,241) using count estimates from search engine results and in books cataloged by Google. These estimates are based on the ngrams formed when each descriptor is combined with a common person-related noun (person, woman, man, girl, boy). Results are reported for each noun form and a frequency index in an online database that can be sorted, searched, and downloaded. We report on associations among the different noun forms and data types and propose recommendations for the use of these data in conjunction with other resources. Over the past 40 years, the Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (RST) of personality has inspired a proliferation of self-report scales, potentially creating 'jingle-jangle' fallacies and a fragmented empirical literature. The Big Five personality taxonomy may offer a useful organising framework for these scales, as it seems plausible that many could be represented as narrow facets of the broader Big Five domains. Across two studies, we explored (Study 1, N = 408) then attempted to confirm (Study 2, N = 423) whether and where a collection of >25 RST scales might be located within the space of the Big Five. Both studies revealed that more than 70% of these RST scales were more strongly related to the Big Five domains than more than 10% (i.e., 3/30) of Big Five facets, suggesting that they too could plausibly be regarded as Big Five facets. Moreover, several RST scales were highly correlated (r >.80) with individual Big Five facets, indicating potential redundancy. These results suggest that the Big Five can indeed provide a useful organising framework for most RST scales, which may help researchers grappling with construct proliferation and jingle-jangle fallacies within the RST literature. The Big Five, originating from English lexical studies, is widely used as a framework for personality in Japan. In contrast, the results of Japanese lexical studies are not widely applied as a framework for Japanese personality, despite the fact that such research has been conducted since the 1950s. This study briefly reviews the history of Japanese lexical studies and focuses on two studies conducted in the early 2000s. These studies were contrasting in that one study focused on replicating the Big Five, while the other also examined Japanese unique personality structure. Reflecting on the five-factor and eleven-factor solutions reported in both studies, the factor content is interpreted in light of lexical studies' findings in other countries. The cross-sectional factor structure of Big Five personality trait measures is a weighted blend of the factor structure at the between-person level (i.e., the level of time-invariant interpersonal personality differences) and the factor structure at the within-person level (i.e., the level of intrapersonal personality fluctuations and changes). Thus, the Big Five might not represent the underlying factors at either of the two levels. To probe this issue, I fit multilevel exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (EFA and CFA) models to longitudinal data from the Netherlands and Australia (N = 15,085 and 22,582, respectively). In both data sets, the canonical Big Five emerged at the between- but not at the within-person level. At the within-person level, a two-factor structure appeared to be most suitable. Factor 1 indicated positive attitudes towards the self. Factor 2 indicated neuroticism or negative attitudes towards the self. The two factors might reflect short-term fluctuations in positive and negative affect rather than long-lasting personality changes. The findings are tentative due to methodological limitations. We need more research on the within-person factor structure of personality trait measures to clarify what fluctuations and changes they assess and whether we need to revise the way we measure and analyze trait changes. Objective: This cross-sectional, case-control study aimed to explore the psychodynamic characteristics that influenced adolescents' mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Personality structure impairments, psychodynamic conflicts, defense styles, and mental health issues were examined using the OPD-Structure- and Conflict-Questionnaires, the Defense Style Questionnaire, and the Patient Health Questionnaire in adolescents before (n = 288) and after (n = 451) the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany. Results: Adolescents with mental health issues exhibited greater impairments in personality structure, more immature defense styles, and higher levels of psychodynamic conflicts both before and after the pandemic onset. Comparisons between pre-pandemic and pandemic samples indicated a lower level of the conflict of taking care of oneself versus being cared for in passive mode among adolescents during the pandemic. In-depth analysis of adolescents with mental health issues from the pandemic group revealed significant associations between personality structure impairments and a maladaptive defense style with somatoform, depressive, anxiety, eating, and alcohol use disorders. Conclusion: The findings provide clinically relevant insights into the psychodynamic factors that contributed to the psychological vulnerability of adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. . Introduction. The article presents the results of an empirical study aimed at identifying the peculiarities of the connection between the severity of internal conflict and a complex of psychological and socio-psychological characteristics of an individual in the structure of individuality as a subject of professional socialization. Theoretical analysis. The analysis of research results in the scientific literature revealed the presence of conflicting data regarding the connection between internal conflict and the productivity of professional activities, including representatives of helping professions. Empirical analysis. Correlation connections have been identified that allow us to draw a conclusion about the role of the severity of an individual’s internal conflict in the formation of professionally significant personal and socio-psychological properties in the structure of individuality, ensuring the success of mastering and implementing professional activities by future psychologists. Conclusion. Internal conflict in future psychologists can be combined with low levels of self-regulation and volitional eff orts, difficulties in demonstrating the “Adult” ego-position in conditions of interpersonal interaction, but at the same time, internal conflict does not prevent the manifestation of responsiveness and sincerity in conditions of contact interaction as professionally significant qualities formed in the conditions of professional socialization.

We describe three studies that together provide a first approximation to a comprehensive taxonomy of unique personality facets. In Study 1, we semantically sorted, removed synonyms, and factor analysed 1772 personality items taken from seven major omnibus personality inventories and four narrow inventories. Study 1 identified 61 base facets. In Study 2, we conducted a systematic review of the literature to identify facets missing from the 61 base facets. We identified 16 novel facets. We then created standardised, open access items for the 77 facets. In Study 3, we administered the items to a novel sample (N = 1096) and assessed the psychometric properties of the facets. The ultimate result was 70 personality facet scales that are open access, psychometrically robust, unidimensional, and discriminant. We call this inventory the Facet-level Multidimensional Assessment of Personality or Facet MAP, version 1. The Facet MAP contains scales equivalent to almost all scales present in major personality inventories, and in most cases, many more as well. As the Facet MAP develops, we hope it will eventually provide a comprehensive taxonomy of personality facets, which will prove useful in reducing construct proliferation and facilitating numerous avenues of important personality research. The purpose of this study was to adapt a Japanese version of the Big Five Inventory-2 (BFI-2-J) to examine its factor structure, reliability, validity, and measurement invariance. The BFI-2-J assesses five domains and 15 facets of the Big Five personality traits. We analyzed two datasets: 487 Japanese undergraduates and 500 Japanese adults. The results of the principal component analysis and confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the domain-facet structure of the BFI-2-J was similar to that of other language versions. The reliability of the BFI-2-J is sufficient. The correlation coefficients between the BFI-2-J and the other Big Five and self-esteem measures supported convergent and discriminant validity. Moreover, we confirmed measurement invariance across age and sex groups in domain-level and facet-level models. The results suggest that the BFI-2-J is a good instrument for measuring the Big Five personality traits and their facets in Japan. The BFI-2-J is expected to be useful in Japanese personality research and international comparative research.

Researchers are increasingly acknowledging that psychopathological conditions usually grouped together under the generic label "depression" are highly diverse. However, no differential therapeutic approach currently exists that is sensitive to the varieties of depression afflicting young people. In fact, the discussion is missing something much more fundamental: a specification of the types of adolescent depression. Recent research that has aimed to classify different kinds of depression has mainly studied adult populations and predominantly used technically complicated measurements of biological markers. The neglect of the potential particularities of dysphoric disorders affecting youths is unfortunate, and the exclusive focus on biological parameters unnecessarily restrictive. Moreover, this one-sidedness obfuscates more directly available sources of clinically relevant data that could orient conceptualization efforts in child and adolescent psychiatry. Particularly, clues for discriminating different types of adolescent depression may be obtained by analyzing personally articulated accounts of how affected young people experience changes in their relation to the world and to themselves. Thus, here we present and discuss the findings of a study that explored the possibility of specifying types of adolescent depression in a phenomenological way. The study investigated the association between these types and the vicissitudes of personality development. In accounts given by youths diagnosed with depression during semi-structured interviews, we identified themes and examined their phenomenological centrality. Specifically, our qualitative analyses aimed to determine the relative importance of certain themes with respect to the overall intelligibility of the described changes to the relational space. Based on the findings of these analyses, we differentiate three specifiers of adolescent depression and suggest an association between particular types of experiences and the trajectory of affected adolescents' personality development. To our knowledge, this is the first phenomenologically grounded specification of types of adolescent depression with potential therapeutic significance. Thus, based on this contribution, we propose that modes of scientific exploration that are close to phenomenological philosophy--which have been ignored in the context of developmental psychopathology--could offer a foundation to theories developed in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. Literature has always been linked to psychoanalysis by literary critics and literary theorists in the academic field of literary criticism or theory. The Freudian psychoanalytic approach focuses primarily on exploring and analyzing an individual's inner world. This study examines Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto from the viewpoint of the psychoanalysis theory founded on Freud's interpretations of the behaviours of human beings and discusses the novel from that perspective. These behaviours result from the subconscious part of humans and in which they are connected to internal and external conflicts. Freud believes the unconscious mind is the root of all strange behaviours and mental illnesses and points out that the social context is a significant factor in these afflictions. The study aims to apply psychoanalytic theory to analyze in-depth the self-conflict, repetition of language, and taboos that appear in The Castle of Otranto to present examples of internal or external conflicts that are held in the subconscious as being part of human beings' essence, and eventually as the primary source of disturbance of human behaviour. To diagnose and treat somatic disorders while considering psychosocial factors, medical and psychological practices require a comprehensive and operationalized list of criteria. The Evaluation Criteria for Psychosomatic Practice (ECPP) has been developed to address this need. It builds upon the updated version of the Diagnostic Criteria for Psychosomatic Research (DCPR) by incorporating significant psychodynamic factors and restructuring its framework to better cater to the practical demands of clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and outcome monitoring. It offers four axes for clinical evaluation that can be used together or separately, depending on the needs of diagnostic process, treatment, informing the patient, or research: psychosomatic symptoms and complaints, risk factors related to personality structure, triggers, and secondary risk factors. By utilizing the ECPP’s four axes, clinicians can gain a deeper understanding of how psychosocial factors impact the clinical picture and dynamics of somatic disorders and then effectively communicate this knowledge to patients, improving compliance and collaboration in treatment. Additionally, the ECPP’s framework allows for a balance of psychological, physical, and social treatment interventions that can be tailored to the specific needs of the patient, ultimately leading to better treatment outcomes.

The world of today is full of diversity. With migration problems, religious groups and many conflicts in this world it is important to bring into our focus the different world-views of understanding illness and treatment in different cultural and religious settings. In my article three cases are presented to explain exactly how different Traditions treat patients with diverse sicknesses and their approach to establish the diagnosis of organic and psychic problems. The object of this expose is to explain the way and manner of encounter when one visits a country with some sort of illness. These cases are experiences of my clients in interaction with Therapists in their cultural settings. Importantly, as a Positive Psychotherapist, this information helps to accommodate all aspects of interaction needed to give a safe background for clients. My method is more or less analytic and descriptive. Many illustrations in this work portrays my many years of experience working with people of different cultures and clients. Moreover, it is very important for our understanding of our clients always to see beyond our horizon.

The paper deals with the issue of personality in the context of the professions of an elite tennis player and a project manager. The objective of the conducted research is to find a set of personality characteristics typical for tennis and project management and to find out which personality characteristics of the analyzed professions are similar, or different. To confirm the hypothesis H: "The personality characteristics of an elite tennis player correspond to the demands of his profession, just as the personality characteristics of a project manager correspond to the demands of his profession, and there is demonstrably a correlation in the personality characteristics of elite tennis players and project managers, which corresponds to a correlation in the demands of these two professions," we will use the Cattell's 16 Personality Factor Test, the Spearman correlation analysis, the evaluation of the relevant test indicators difference in statistical significance using the Student t-test, and the comparative analysis. A comparison of the demands of the analyzed professions on a person and a comparison of the personality characteristics of the elite tennis players and the project managers results in the conclusion that the personalities of an elite tennis player and a project manager are somewhat similar, as well as a striking difference between them in the emotional area. The aim of this study was to realize a French adaptation of the Big Five Inventory-2 (BFI-2), and to further examine the BFI-2's convergent and discriminant validity via a comparison with the NEO-PI-3 and with the syndromes assessed by the Symptom Checklist (SCL-90-R). Bifactor Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling almost fully supported the BFI-2's factor structure and measurement model with five major factors, 15 facets, and an acquiescence method factor. All the scales measuring the major factors showed excellent reliability and almost all the scales measuring facets showed acceptable to excellent reliability and satisfactory metric and scalar invariance across gender. The BFI-2 domains and facets were found to be strongly correlated with the scales of the NEO-PI-3 measuring similar constructs. The BFI-2 Negative Emotionality domain and its facets were positively related to most of the SCL-90-R scales, and Extraversion and its facets related negatively with Interpersonal Sensitivity and Depression. In conclusion, data from the French adaptation confirmed the relevance of the BFI-2 hierarchical factor structure, as well as its scales' reliability and convergent and discriminant validity, which supports and extends the body of knowledge from the original American BFI-2 and its Danish, Dutch, German, Russian, and Slovakian adaptations. There has been a great interest in investigating relations between personality and language use on the web or social media. Most of the recent studies are based on mining the users' information available online and then using machine learning algorithms to predict their personality characteristics. On the other hand, a few studies relied on the traditional lexical hypothesis when exploring personality under the assumption that personality-related attributes could be obtained from dictionaries. However, little is known about personality structure from Twitter/X - do data strictly reflect personality structure as represented by personality models, or as unique personality semantic patterns. The aim of the study was to assess and interpret the personality adjective-based structure contained in tweets. The data were collected from an open-access „Tweet-sr“ Serbian Twitter linguistic corpus (Ljubešić & Klubička, 2014). Latent Dirichlet Allocation, a topic modeling technique, was conducted to extract topics and cosine similarity was used as a measure to determine topic similarities, as well as similarities between the topics and personality dimensions. The results showed that the optimal solution comprised four non-overlapping topics reflecting specific semantic structures. Topics did not replicate trait constructs but were modestly related to them. The largest similarities were found with Extraversion and Agreeableness, pointing out the conceptual importance of these traits when describing interpersonal behavior. Also, no intertopic differences in word category distributions were found, with the evaluation terms being the second most frequent in three topics. Introduction and objective: The Kernberg’s concept on the levels of personality organisation enables us to understand, on the one hand, the pathomechanism of personality disorders necessary for case conceptualisation in psychotherapy and, on the other hand, to predict individuals’ everyday functioning in interpersonal relationships and the experienced life satisfaction. In this study, we inquire whether dimensions of pathological personality structure are associated with negative evaluations of life satisfaction and interpersonal relationships. Additionally, we explored whether these relationships are modified by impaired mentalisation (as a mediator) and clinical group membership (as a moderator). Materials and methods: The study involved 88 participants (71 women) from both clinical (n = 45) and non-clinical groups, aged between 20 to 69 years (mean, M = 31.39; standard deviation, SD = 11.38). The participants completed the Kernberg’s Inventory of Personality Organization (IPO), the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS), the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS), and the Mentalization Questionnaire (MZQ). Results: The results indicate that higher intensity of all dimensions of personality pathology (identity, defence mechanisms, aggression, reality testing, and moral functioning) is significantly associated with lower life satisfaction (rho = from −0.49 to −0.32) and greater difficulties in mentalisation (rho = 0.72 to 0.56). Increased intensity of defence mechanisms is also related to lower romantic relationship satisfaction (rho = −0.23). Moderated mediation analyses with 5000 bootstrap samples (where life satisfaction is an dependent variable, dimensions of personality organisation are independent variables, mentalisation disturbance is a mediator, and clinical group membership moderates all relationships) showed that disrupted mentalisation plays a mediating role in explaining life satisfaction and that clinical vs. non-clinical group membership may not moderate these relationships. Conclusion: The results help specify the relationships between the characteristics of Kernberg’s personality structure dimensions and the evaluation of everyday life satisfaction, suggesting an important role of mentalisation processes as transdiagnostic factors worth addressing in life satisfaction appraisal. The main purpose of the research is to study the factors affecting women's addiction. The research method is quantitative meta-analysis, its tool is reverse questionnaire, non-probability sampling method and its statistical population is 39 studies, of which 27 studies are about the period 1388 to 1400. The results show that between context and substance factors (age of starting drug use; recreational style of drugs; easy access to drugs; history of addiction and drug use); family factors (family conflict and conflict; dominance of male norms; broken family; disordered married life; dissatisfaction with married life; family addiction); Psycho-personality factors (social isolation, enjoyment, social prestige, hot feeling of shame, feeling of alienation, feeling of anonymity, lack of self-confidence); Economic factors (financial poverty, relative deprivation, socio-economic pressure, job loss and job insecurity); Social factors (unfriendly friends; social surveillance; criminal opportunity; environmental disorder; belonging to a subculture; ethnic heterogeneity; social failure) and cultural factors (culture of poverty; level of religiosity; media consumption; virtual networks; cultural capital; level of education) with women's tendency to Addiction has had a significant relationship.

Subject. This article discusses the agent-based model describing the process when two or more individuals meet for the first time and form a small social group based on interests. It is assumed that when they get to know each other, they exchange information about certain phenomena of the surrounding world and their attitudes to them. The article describes a study which involved simulation of the process of how the significance of these phenomena in their understanding of the surrounding world by each individual changes as a result of such interactions. Purpose. To determine the possibility of the formation of interest groups in a random sample of individuals and the nature of changes in their attitudes to the world as a result of several consecutive interactions between them within the paradigm of agent-based models. Results. The method of hierarchical cluster analysis revealed stable interest groups which were formed within a random sample of individuals. A series of interactions between the participants of these groups significantly expanded the range of the participants’ ideas about the surrounding world and their confidence that their attitudes to the phenomena of the surrounding world were right. Conclusions. It was shown that groups of individuals with completely opposite characteristics can emerge even in a random sample of individuals. What is more, the participants of each group will have similar ideas about the surrounding world. It was also shown that repeated interactions between the individuals within these groups boost their confidence about their attitudes to certain phenomena of the surrounding world. It was noted that currently the Internet is an important platform for such interactions.

The International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 11th Revision introduced a fully dimensional approach to personality disorders which conceptionally converges with the long-standing psychodynamic understanding of psychopathology through underlying intra- and interpersonal impairments. In this study, the diagnostic contributions of the two psychodynamic concepts of personality structure and psychodynamic conflicts were investigated through the comparison of self-report data of 189 adolescents with mental health problems and 321 mentally healthy controls. The study results reveal that adolescents with mental health problems show significantly higher impairments in all four domains of personality structure and significantly higher levels of several psychodynamic conflicts. Further, adolescents with different mental health problems significantly differ regarding the impairments in the personality structure domains and several levels of psychodynamic conflicts. While higher structural impairments are shown in adolescents with eating and anxiety disorders, higher levels of the passive self-worth conflict persist in adolescents with depressive disorders, and higher levels of the passive identity conflict are affecting adolescents with eating disorders. The findings suggest that a standardized diagnostic assessment of personality structure and psychodynamic conflicts in adolescent patients could contribute to a deeper understanding of mental health problems and appropriate treatment planning through the detection of underlying intra- and interpersonal impairments. In this study, third in a series of studies of the relationships between the dominant type of the Word Meaning Structure (WMS) and various psychic processes, response patterns on personality questionnaires with Likert-type response format of individuals with different levels of education (including adult illiterates) in Brazil (N = 102) and in Estonia (N = 520) were assessed with person oriented methods of data analysis. We found that responses to two personality questionnaires (International Personality Item Pool Questionnaire, IPIP-Q60 and Estonian Collectivism Scale, ESTCOL) are inconsistent and do not correspond to theories that underlie construction and interpretation of such assessment tools. Two novel ways to assess inconsistent response patterns were developed. The Consistency Index (CI) characterizes between-item inconsistency and the Determinacy Index (DI) characterizes within-item inconsistency. The dominant type of the WMS and the level of education were related to both CI and DI. Higher level of between-item inconsistency characterizes everyday conceptual thinkers with lower levels of education and higher level of within-item inconsistency was observed among logical conceptual thinkers with higher levels of education. Systematic relationships between WMS and inconsistent patterns of responses indicate that responses on personality questionnaires cannot be interpreted in terms of personality characteristics. The results of our study also provide further support to the idea that dominant type of the WMS is a pervasive characteristic of the psyche and determines qualitatively possibilities and limits of the psychic processes. Studies of personality at work have made significant contributions to theory and applied practice in work and organizational settings. This review article proposes that there are also reciprocal influences between core personality science and research on personality in work and organizations, each drawing on insights from the other. Following this tradition, the objective of this article is to review key foundations of research in a way that informs and critically reflects on state-of-the-art evidence in four main themes: (1) conceptualization and structure of personality at work, (2) personality assessment in work settings, (3) personality processes and dynamics at work, and (4) impact of situations on personaliy at work. The purpose of this study was to adapt a Japanese version of the Big Five Inventory-2 (BFI-2-J) to examine its factor structure, reliability, validity, and measurement invariance. The BFI-2-J assesses five domains and 15 facets of the Big Five personality traits. We analyzed two datasets: 487 Japanese undergraduates and 500 Japanese adults. The results of the principal component analysis and confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the domainfacet structure of the BFI-2-J was similar to that of other language versions. The reliability of the BFI-2-J is sufficient. The correlation coefficients between the BFI-2-J and the other Big Five and self-esteem measures supported convergent and discriminant validity. Moreover, we confirmed measurement invariance across age and sex groups in domain-level and facet-level models. The results suggest that the BFI-2-J is a good instrument for measuring the Big Five personality traits and their facets in Japan. All versions of this article have been corrected.] Three studies were conducted to develop and validate the Big Five Inventory-2 (BFI-2), a major revision of the Big Five Inventory (BFI). Study 1 specified a hierarchical model of personality structure with 15 facet traits nested within the Big Five domains, and developed a preliminary item pool to measure this structure. Study 2 used conceptual and empirical criteria to construct the BFI-2 domain and facet scales from the preliminary item pool. Study 3 used data from 2 validation samples to evaluate the BFI-2's measurement properties and substantive relations with self-reported and peer-reported criteria. The results of these studies indicate that the BFI-2 is a reliable and valid personality measure, and an important advance over the original BFI. Specifically, the BFI-2 introduces a robust hierarchical structure, controls for individual differences in acquiescent responding, and provides greater bandwidth, fidelity, and predictive power than the original BFI, while still retaining the original measure's conceptual focus, brevity, and ease of understanding. Abstract Background This is the validation of the Operationalized Psychodynamic Diagnosis—Structure Questionnaire (OPD-SQ). Methods A clinical sample of 399 adults and a nonclinical general population sample of 50 healthy adults completed measures of depression, attachment, psychiatric symptomatology and distress. Internal consistency and concurrent validity were assessed. Test–retest and Reliable Change Index were also calculated, as was the ability of the OPD-SQ to distinguish between the clinical and general population groups. Results High internal consistencies were found; significant differences between clinical and nonclinical samples, and significant associations with psychiatric symptomatology, depression and psychological distress. Conclusion The Chilean OPD-SQ has good reliability, and discriminates between clinical and healthy samples.

This study aimed to describe the personality structure of the main character in Marwah Mamdouh’s novel Na'am Ahwaka using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic approach. Marwah Mamdouh presented a fictional story that illustrated the personality structure form, namely the condition of the soul and the emotional outbursts experienced by the character. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method to express the personality structure forms of the main characters in the novel. The obtained research data as words, phrases, sentences, and discourse showed the personality structure of the main characters in the novel. The findings of the research were narratives that showed the structure of personality comprising, first, Id which was a part of the psychology; second, Ego which was the only area of the mind that had contact with the reality; third, Super Ego was the absorption of individuals from combined values and moral values that provide a boundary between the good and bad things. This study concluded that id dominated all the problems experienced by the main character in the novel.

The Values in Action (VIA) framework maps 24 character strengths onto six more abstract virtues through a theoretical classification. However, compared to other individual difference constructs, there is little consensus about the factor-analytic structure of the VIA trait space. Applying Horn's parallel analysis, Goldberg's Bass-ackwards approach, and cross-country congruency analysis, we scrutinize the factor-analytic solutions-hierarchy of the 24 VIA strengths with the aim to identify one or more useful global levels of abstraction (akin to the Big Five, HEXACO/Big Six, or personality metatraits). We assessed the 24 character strengths with the psychometrically refined IPIP-VIA-R inventory in two large and heterogeneous samples from Germany and the UK (total N ≈ 2,000). Results suggested that three global dimensions suffice to capture the essence of character strengths: Level III recovered more than 50% of the total variation of the 24 character strengths in well-interpretable, global/general, cross-culturally replicable dimensions. We provisionally labeled them positivity, dependability, and mastery. Their superordinate Level-II-dimensions were reminiscent of the "Big Two" personality metatraits Dynamism and Social Self-Regulation. Adolescence is a crucial period for the development of personality and its dysfunctions. In this regard, it is essential to evaluate the nature and degree of maladaptive personality functioning. However, measures currently available present some limitations, mainly being adaptations from adult's tailored instruments and length. Moreover, no instrument considers the crucial dimensions related to body development and sexuality. This contribution presents data on the Adolescent Personality Structure Questionnaire (APS-Q) development, a self-report measure to capture core aspects of personality functioning in adolescence while being agile and reliable. On two large samples of adolescents (total N = 1,664), we investigated the psychometric properties of the APS-Q. We explored its factor structure and construct and incremental validity in the first sample, testing specific associations with existing measures of severity of personality pathology, maladaptive personality traits, and psychological distress. In the second sample, we confirmed its factor structure, assessing gender and age invariance. Overall, our findings support the APS-Q's validity as a reliable and useful measure to assess personality functioning. Moreover, the APS-Q highlighted developmentally vital dimensions such as self-functioning (encompassing mental and bodily changes and considering the dimension of sexuality), interpersonal functioning (discriminating the dimensions of family and peers), and emotion regulation. The actuality of this study is dictated by the number of persons suffering from personality disorders, and the excessive need for reliable constructs for the assessment of personality in the normality-abnormality range. The total number of participants of the study was 1118, recruited in several subsamples, which were employed for the investigation of the factor structure, psychometric properties, test-retest, and convergent validity of the IPO-57 and IPO-16 scales. The 3-factor structure, obtained by confirmatory factor analysis, was replicated in the Latvian-speaking sample for long and brief IPO versions. Both constructs achieved adequate model fit psychometric indices and sufficient internal consistency, and the test-retest reliability was also approved. The convergent validity of IPO with aggressivity, negative affectivity, and non-adaptive personality measures was established. In the current study, we adapted a very fundamental psychodynamic/psychoanalytic construct in the Latvian language and replicated the previously empirically established IPO three-dimensional model, whereas the novelty in IPO construct convergent validity research was the establishment of convergent validity with non-adaptive personality traits measured by the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 Brief Form (PID-5-BF). Both versions of IPO are recommended for further use in the research in Latvian language samples, for clinical purposes to assess the level of psychic functioning, and for treatment planning and evaluation purposes. The International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 11th Revision introduced a fully dimensional approach to personality disorders which conceptionally converges with the long-standing psychodynamic understanding of psychopathology through underlying intra- and interpersonal impairments. In this study, the diagnostic contributions of the two psychodynamic concepts of personality structure and psychodynamic conflicts were investigated through the comparison of self-report data of 189 adolescents with mental health problems and 321 mentally healthy controls. The study results reveal that adolescents with mental health problems show significantly higher impairments in all four domains of personality structure and significantly higher levels of several psychodynamic conflicts. Further, adolescents with different mental health problems significantly differ regarding the impairments in the personality structure domains and several levels of psychodynamic conflicts. While higher structural impairments are shown in adolescents with eating and anxiety disorders, higher levels of the passive self-worth conflict persist in adolescents with depressive disorders, and higher levels of the passive identity conflict are affecting adolescents with eating disorders. The findings suggest that a standardized diagnostic assessment of personality structure and psychodynamic conflicts in adolescent patients could contribute to a deeper understanding of mental health problems and appropriate treatment planning through the detection of underlying intra- and interpersonal impairments.

In Study 1 a meta-analysis (N = 15,609) examining the relationship between the GFP and ego-resiliency/resilience was conducted. In Study 2 (N = 157) archival data from Block and Block was used to examine the association between rater judged ego-resiliency across childhood, adolescence, and into early adulthood and the GFP based on self-report in early adulthood. Using structural equation modeling for the meta-analytic data, the correlation between the GFP and ego-resiliency/resilience was estimated at r = 0.93. Using a trait-state occasion model to test the hypothesis in Study 2, the correlation between the GFP and rated ego-resiliency was estimated at r = 0.85. The results of the two studies offer substantial support for Block’s original hypothesis. Given the strength of the associations between the GFP and ego-resiliency/resilience one may conclude that the two constructs largely reflect the same underlying phenomenon.

The impact of personal values on preferences, choices, and behaviors has evoked much interest. Relatively little is known, however, about the processes through which values impact behavior. In this conceptual article, we consider both the content and the structural aspects of the relationships between values and behavior. We point to unique features of values that have implications to their relationships with behavior and build on these features to review past research. We then propose a conceptual model that presents three organizing principles: accessibility, interpretation, and control. For each principle, we identify mechanisms through which values and behavior are connected. Some of these mechanisms have been exemplified in past research and are reviewed; others call for future research. Integrating the knowledge on the multiple ways in which values impact behavior deepens our understanding of the complex ways through which cognition is translated into action. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between personality dispositions and actual and observed behavior expressed through several smartphone apps categories (relying on a built-in function of the smartphone, the app usage from the battery information menu), as well as to investigate the association between personality traits and the number of installed apps per category. The research sample consisted of 341 participants that monitored their app usage. In addition, participants completed measures related to personality structure (Big Five, HEXACO, and the Dark Triad). The findings of the study showed that personality dispositions predicted smartphone apps usage in various categories such as entertainment apps, music apps, gaming apps, business apps, e-health apps, and dating apps. In conclusion, this study showed that actual behavior expressed through various app categories is associated with broad and important personality dimensions.
