Resumen El objetivo de este trabajo es explicar la región transfronteriza entre México y Guatemala deconstruyendo el concepto de frontera y proponiendo un esquema epistemológico en el que converjan distintas categorías analíticas y dimensiones para su estudio. Se expone que el paradigma estadocéntrico limita la apertura a dialogar otras formas de imaginar las regiones fronterizas y las movilidades humanas. En ese sentido, se retomaron miradas, corrientes y enfoques que han estudiado la frontera entre México y Guatemala como un concepto heterogéneo, para así plantear en este texto que el contexto transfronterizo estudiado se reconfigura constantemente en matices, contradicciones y ambigüedades. Abstract The purpose of this article is to explain the cross-border region between Mexico and Guatemala by deconstructing the concept of border and proposing an epistemological scheme in which different analytical categories and dimensions converge for its study. It is explained that the state-centric paradigm limits openness to dialogue with other ways of imagining border regions and human mobilities. In this sense, the viewpoints, currents and approaches that have studied the border between Mexico and Guatemala as a heterogeneous concept were retaken, in order to propose in this text that the studied cross-border context is constantly reconfigured in nuances, contradictions and ambiguities. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho é explicar a região transfronteiriça entre México e Guatemala desconstruindo o conceito de fronteira e propondo um esquema epistemológico no qual convergem distintas categorias analíticas e dimensões para seu estudo. Expõe-se que o paradigma estadocêntrico limita o diálogo entre outras formas de imaginar as regiões fronteiriças e as mobilizações humanas. Nesse sentido, retomaram-se olhares, correntes e enfoques que estudaram a fronteira entre México e Guatemala como um conceito heterogêneo, para assim propor, neste texto, que o contexto transfronteiriço estudado se reconfigura constantemente em matizes, contradições e ambiguidades.

Trazer uma reflexão sobre a importância e o potencial impacto da migração pendular na busca por serviços de saúde e, em específico, sobre as peculiaridades dessa mobilidade na região de fronteira. O trabalho descreve o contexto em que a mobilidade pendular se insere na modificação do espaço urbano do século XX, apresenta alguns aspectos legais sobre o tema na área da saúde, ilustrando a partir da realidade da tríplice fronteira Brasil-Argentina-Paraguai, enquanto importante local de migração pendular para uso dos serviços de saúde. São apresentadas hipóteses para possíveis impactos da mobilidade pendular, desfechos em saúde, assim como medidas para aferir a mobilidade pendular, tais como o efeito da distância a ser percorrida da residência ao serviço de saúde, o local de residência (país diferente, com condições de desenvolvimento diferentes) e os aspectos organizacionais da atenção à saúde, como a incerteza relativa ao atendimento em função da mobilidade internacional. Conclui-se que essa forma de mobilidade é muito comum na busca por atenção à saúde, e não apenas, como versa a abordagem tradicional, para trabalho e estudo, e que faz-se de grande importância o estudo de seu impacto na saúde das pessoas e a sua inclusão nos debates sobre a atenção à saúde através da fronteira. This article aims to reflect about the importance and the potential impact of pendulum migration in the pursuance for healthcare, and, specifically, about the peculiarity of this kind of mobility in border areas. It describes the context in which the pendulum migration is inserted for the modification of the urban space in the 20th century, makes initial comments about legal aspects of the theme in health sector, and describes the reality of the Brazil-Argentina-Paraguay triple border as an important location of pendulum migration for the pursuance of healthcare as an illustrative fact. In this way, hypotheses are formulated about the causes of the pendulum migration impact on patient’s health like the effect of the distance covered from home to healthcare facilities, and organizational aspects related to healthcare like the uncertainty about having or not health assistance due to international mobility. It concludes that this kind of mobility is very common in the pursuance of healthcare despite the traditional approach to the theme mentioning only work or study. Besides that, it is very important to study its impact on health and to include this theme on the cross border healthcare debate.

A migração pendular consiste na mobilidade diária que pessoas fazem entre duas diferentes cidades, tradicionalmente, por motivos de trabalho e estudo, porém também ocorre para a busca por serviços de saúde. Esse movimento acontece em todo o mundo dentro dos territórios nacionais de cada país, como o movimento entre cidades pequenas com poucos recursos humanos e tecnológicos em saúde, para cidades maiores próximas que contenham esses recursos. Essa mobilidade é chamada de migração pendular regional. No entanto, ela assume diversas particularidades quando esse movimento leva as pessoas a cruzarem periodicamente uma fronteira internacional para essa finalidade, o que configura a migração pendular internacional. Esse movimento transfronteiriço pode afetar a adesão dos pacientes aos tratamentos de doenças crônicas, como é o caso da infecção pelo HIV, o que pode modificar o seu prognóstico. O objetivo desta dissertação é comparar o prognóstico de pacientes HIV+ moradores de Foz do Iguaçu que fazem acompanhamento no Serviço de Assistência Especializada (SAE), com pacientes que fazem migração pendular regional e internacional e fazem acompanhamento no mesmo serviço. Pendulum migration is a daily mobility between two different cities that is made, traditionally, to work or study. However, it also can happen to look for healthcare. This kind of human mobility is common around the world inside the national territory of each country, like the movement between a small city with a lack of health human and technological resources and the major city next to it that contains these resources. It is called regional pendulum migration. But it has many particularities when this movement is responsible for people crossing periodically an international border for this end, which represents the international pendulum migration. This crossborder healthcare may influence the adherence to the treatment of chronic diseases like HIV infection and, for this reason, modify the prognosis of these patients. The aim of this dissertation is to compare the prognosis of HIV+ patients living in the city of Iguazu Falls that makes the follow-up in the Specialized Assistance Service (SAS) of this city with patients who makes regional and international pendulum migration for healthcare in the same health facility.

The article consists of three parts. First part includes analyses concerning problems in medical sociology and applied/used scientific approaches. Second part of the text examines the condition of migrants’ health. It has been based on the researches of both Polish and foreign scientists in the field. Third part includes the results of the author’s own research and an attempt to review strong and weak sides of both: the study of health risk factors in the context of migration, the analysis of migrants’ health condition with the use of qualitative data provided in a free-form interview, as well as, a question of future prospect of creating a model for migrants’ health analysis. The reconstruction of the migrants’ identity is an essential condition for the migrants' adaptation in their new place of settlement. Such reconstruction in the case of incomplete, pendulum migration is more complicated. This type of migration is characterized by its relatively short term nature and multiple travels of migrants between their country of origin and the target country. The identity of the so-called pendulum migrants is composed of cultural elements belonging both to the receiving society and to the native one. As a result migrants confront components of their identity constructed during interactions in the host society with their group of origin whenever they come back to their home country. It is a special process of re-adaptation to their original society. One can distinguish different types of narrations used by pendulum migrants. Those diverse techniques of communication differ in their cognitive and emotional components. The narrations fulfill many functions. For instance, they sustain social relations and social ties, satisfy the need for social prestige and recognition, and facilitate the acceptance of the negative experiences of migration. The different types of narrations are applied contextually and situationally depending on the motive, goal and the partner of the interaction. The paper contains a detailed analysis of the features of the above-mentioned narrations and the circumstances of their formation and use.
