Purpose: When carrying out prosthetic rehabilitation of edentulous and partially edentulous patients, great attention is paid to the personal attitude of the patients, their satisfaction with oral health and psychosocial interaction due to tooth loss, as well as the treatment of the resulting disorders. This attention has led to the development of various instruments for examining the quality of life related to oral health. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a reliable instrument in the Serbian language suitable for measuring oral health-related quality of life in patients who have been rehabilitated with complete or partial dentures. Мaterials and Methods: The study was unicentric and cross-sectional, and assessed the reliability and validity of a newly developed instrument for measuring the oral health-related quality of life in denture wearers (OHRQoL-DW). It was conducted on a sample of 200 adults from Serbia, wearers of various types of dentures, with a mean age 66.9 ± 10.3 years and male/female ratio of 86/114 (43%/57%). Results: The definitive version of the OHRQoL-DW scale with 28 items showed very good reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha = 0.938. Good temporal stability of the questionnaire was demonstrated, and satisfactory results were obtained for divergent and convergent validity tests. Exploratory factorial analysis revealed four domains of oral health-related quality of life in denture wearers: physical, psychosocial, environmental and aesthetic. Conclusions: The OHRQoL-DW scale is a reliable and valid generic instrument for measuring the oral health-related quality of life in patients wearing dentures, which is one of the most important outcomes of oral health in prosthetic treatment. Craniosacral rhythm is a manual therapy technique that focuses on the subtle, rhythmic movement of cerebrospinal fluid as it flows through the central nervous system and musculoskeletal system. Through light and delicate manipulation of the cranial bones, membranes and soft tissues of the head and neck, it promotes rebalancing and release from tension in the body, improving the circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid and the individual's health. In the field of prosthetic dentistry, in rare cases, such as a full arch or removable partial denture, the patient perceives a sensation of constriction even though all procedures have been used correctly. In this work, a new design fora removable partial denture is proposed that does not interfere with the primary respiratory mechanism, reducing the sensation of constriction in the patient. The materials used are the same as those used for a normal removable partial denture, and the technique used is the "lost wax" one: the novelty is that the prosthesis is made in two separate parts that are joined by a central connection; the result is a removable partial denture with a small central thickening in the main joint represented by the connection of the two pieces. Craniosacral breathing movements are favored with this prosthesis as the metal structure is hyperstatic towards intrusion movements, more or less virtual in the opposite direction, i.e., extrusion towards the vestibule. Precise registration of sequential 3D datasets is crucial for accurate dimensional analysis. Utilizing the Local Best-Fit (LBF) algorithm and stable Registration Reference Areas (RRAs) facilitates the accurate alignment of 3D surface models. Currently, Cone-beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and Deep Learning (DL) algorithms are at the forefront for segmenting CBCT scans to monitor morphological changes in the residual alveolar ridge. This study compares the effectiveness of different RRAs in registration sequential 3D surface models of partially edentulous mandibles. DL-assisted software segmented two sequential CBCTs (T0 and T1) from 10 patients, producing sequential 3D mandibular models. These models were aligned using three distinct RRAs: (i) WHOLE, encompassing the entire surface model; (ii) MND_BODY, covering the mandibular body while excluding the unstable alveolar ridge; and (iii) SPIN_FOR, incorporating stable RRAs (mental foramina and mental spine). An innovative method assessed registration accuracy by generating centroids from cross-sectional outlines of the mandibular nerve canals at the anterior third (A), medial third (B), and posterior third (C) of the posterior edentulous areas. The distance between centroids at T0 and T1 quantified registration accuracy. The MND_BODY group exhibited superior accuracy, whereas the SPIN_FOR group showed the least, with accuracy decreasing from A to C, suggesting rotational misalignments. When selecting RRAs, both stability and spatial distribution must be taken into account. For optimal alignment, sequential 3D surface models should use RRAs that are both stable and widely distributed.

However, some patients discontinue using their denture over time. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and characteristics of partial edentulous patients who no longer wear their dentures, explore their reasons, and assess their oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). Methodology This cross-sectional study, conducted at Chulalongkorn University Dental School from 2013 to 2019, involved patients who received PRDP treatment. They were contacted via phone calls and asked about their denture usage. Eligible participants were patients who had stopped or rarely used their PRDPs. Data on oral status, health insurance, and PRDP variables were collected from hospital records. Telephone interviews were conducted to collect the initial reasons for seeking PRDP treatment, reasons for discontinuation, desire for a new PRDP, and OHRQoL. The Oral Impacts on Daily Performances index was used to assess the OHRQoL. The score was dichotomized into the absence or presence of oral impacts. Chi-square tests and multivariable binary logistic regression were employed to determine the associations between oral impacts and various factors in the participants who discontinued PRDP usage. Results Among the 975 contacted participants, 175 (17.9%) discontinued using their PRDPs. Most of these individuals had at least 20 remaining natural teeth and/or 4 posterior occluding pairs. The primary initial reason for seeking PRDP treatment was often based on a dentist’s suggestion. Although many participants reported no impact on OHRQoL and did not express the need for new PRDPs, those experiencing oral impacts were more likely to seek replacements. Conclusions With up to 7 years follow-up duration, individuals with partial edentulism and sufficient remaining functional dentition without oral impacts were more inclined to discontinue PRDP usage. Those with maxillary anterior teeth loss were less likely to discontinue using their PRDP. The primary initial reason for seeking PRDP treatment was often a dentists’ suggestion. However, the individuals reporting oral impacts expressed their needs for new denture replacements. This highlights the significance of incorporating patient needs and preferences in prosthodontic decision-making.

Background and Aim: Ectodermal dysplasia is a genetic condition that affects ectodermal derivatives such as skin, hair, nails, teeth and sweat glands. The disease is diagnosed at birth or in early childhood. Tooth developmental disorders are observed in different forms in these children. These disorders expose children to ridicule, which can lead to psychological problems; Therefore, the physical treatment of these children is very important, especially in the oral area. This report describes the appearance and dental treatments performed on a 6-year-old girl with ectodermal dysplasia. Case Report: A 6-year-old girl with no systemic disease complained of a history of being ridiculed by her peers. Lack of deciduous and permanent teeth and conical teeth were visible in this child. The child had reduced, thin hair, hypotonic lips, and a dry mouth. The bridge of the nose also seemed concaved. The baby's teeth had no caries or periodontal disease. The treatment plan for this child included a composite build-up of the conical anterior teeth and then the design of a removable partial denture to preserve the space of the missing teeth as well as their replacement. Conclusion: Removable prostheses are a suitable treatment option for children with ectodermal dysplasia. After the age of 18, surgical treatments for implant placement and then placement of implant-based prostheses can be considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To evaluate data with regards to the current prevalence of various Kennedy's classes of edentulism and their association with age. Material and Methods: A total of 157 patients were selected, and the prevalence of partial edentulism among the selected patient was recorded. Patients were grouped into three age groups. Kennedy's classification was used to determine the pattern of partially edentulous arches. Data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 20.0 for Windows. Results: The results showed that the occurrence of Kennedy Class III partial edentulism was 44.9% in the maxillary arch and 67.4% in the mandibular arch, followed by Class II in both the maxillary and mandibular arch with an average of 15.9% in the maxillary arch and 4.9% in the mandibular arch. Based on these results, Kennedy's Class III was the most prevalent partially edentulous pattern 57.8% among the maxillary and the mandibular arch. Conclusions: Among selected patients, the prevalence of Class I and II was predominant among elderly population of > 50 years, whereas Class III was present among all ages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction:Simulation tests may significantly decrease the cost and time needed for planning and production of prosthetic restorations, providing both computer simulation as part of the refinement process and experimental testing. Aim: Comparative simulation testing with functional loading of two denture framework materials. Materials and methods: Upper model cast denture forbilateral edentulous areas posterior to the natural teeth (Kennedy Class I) was produced on the "Frasaco" phantom model. The denture was scanned by a 3D optical laboratory scanner. The 3D model was transformed into an STL-file and was processed with "Cinema 4D" software before the application of the program "SOLIDWORKS" v.2018. Parameters of two materials – metal alloy I-MG EKO (Interdent, Slovenia) and injection molded resin Bio Dentaplast (Bredent, Germany) were applied. Simulations were performed by equivalent loading according to the Third strength theory (von Mises stress-test) and loading with deformation and shift at constant force 0.1N/mm2 at a maximal number of 159 181 segmented elements of the 3D object. Tests were held upon unilateral loading on the working side, and support was provided by reciprocal clasp arms on the working and non-working side, denture flanges and major connector. Results and discussion: Results showed insignificant differences between the common reflected load of the two tested materials but with different distribution - on the major connector, it was 0.4N for the alloy and 0.87N for the resin, at the flanges – 2.26N and 5.6N respectively, for the clasps – 5.1N and 5.7N. Conclusion: The tested metal alloy is rigid and resistant material which provides distribution of the reflected load between clasp elements and denture saddle, especially distally, while the the tested injection molded material possesses relatively high flexibility and elasticity, which hides a risk for the teeth bearing clasps.

Objectives: This follow-up study aimed at collecting long-term data for removable partial dentures (RPDs) retained by double crowns with spark-eroded friction pins (DCP) and comparing them in the presence of severely reduced dentition (SRD) and non-SRD (NSRD, i.e. residual dentition with more than three abutment teeth) after a 10-year wearing period. Materials and methods: A total of 158 participants (n = 71, 44.9% women) aged 62.5 ± 12.7 years with 182 prostheses on 520 abutment teeth were followed up between 2006 and 2022. The SRD group included 144 RPDs supported by 314 abutment teeth. The data collection was performed retrospectively. 10-year survival rates of RPDs and abutment teeth were determined using the Kaplan–Meier method and compared using the log-rank test for SRD and NSRD, among others. Cox regression analyses were conducted to isolate risk factors for the survival of both RPDs and abutment teeth. Results: The 10-year cumulative survival rate of all abutment teeth was 65.6% with significantly lower values in the SRD group (53.5%) (p < 0.001). The survival rate for all RPDs was 65.5%. The SRD group showed lower survival rates (57.9%) (p = 0.004). The number and location of the abutment teeth had a significant influence on the survival rates of the RPDs and the abutment teeth. Age, sex, jaw, relining, and vitality had a significant influence on the abutment teeth survival rates. Conclusions: RPDs showed an acceptable clinical survival rate after 10 years. The number, location, and vitality of abutment teeth were factors that influenced the survival of both RPDs and abutment teeth. Clinical relevance: Consideration of the influencing factors found can help improve the prognostic assessment of double crown-retained dentures in the context of prosthetic therapy planning. Purpose: This in vitro study compared the trueness of removable partial denture cobalt‐chromium (Co‐Cr) frameworks fabricated by 3D‐printed pattern casting and those fabricated by selective laser sintering (SLS) with different palate vault depths. Materials and methods: A partially edentulous Kennedy class II mod.1 maxillary model with a deep palatal vault was used, which was modified and duplicated to produce another model with medium palatal vault depth. After model scanning, the partial denture framework was designed using CAD software to fabricate 20 removable partial denture (RPD) frameworks. For each model, two types of frameworks were fabricated. For the 1st type, the 3D‐printed resin patterns were formed using a 3D printer, and then casting was performed (AM‐cast framework). For the 2nd type, a direct metal laser sintering machine was used for the RPD frameworks fabrication (SLS framework). 3D scanning of fabricated frameworks was performed, and the standard tessellation language (STL) file was superimposed over the STL file from the original design, and the average deviation was recorded. Data were statistically analyzed. Results: Two‐way ANOVA test was used, followed by the least significant difference (LSD) for pair‐wise comparisons to estimate any significant differences between groups. The RPD frameworks with high palatal vault depth represent larger discrepancies mean value than that with the medium palatal vault depth with a highly significant statistical difference. SLS shows less deviation than AM‐cast CO‐Cr frameworks with highly significant statistical differences whatever palatal vault depth. Conclusion: RPD metal frameworks fabricated with SLS have better accuracy compared to those fabricated by AM‐cast, regardless of the depth of the palatal vault. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This retrospective clinical study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of surveyed monolithic computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) zirconia crowns for abutment teeth in removable partial dentures (RPDs)., Methods: Patients who received monolithic surveyed zirconia crowns were clinically examined. The crowns were examined according to the modified United States Public Health Service criteria, and Kaplan-Meier survival was determined. The effect of different variables on the survival and success rates was assessed using Cox regression analysis (α = 0.05)., Results: A total of 297 crowns of 275 patients were evaluated over a mean period of 7 years. The cumulative survival and success rates were 95.6% and 91.2%, respectively. Complications were in the form of secondary caries (n=12), minor chipping (n=9), and debonding (n=5). A higher number of failures was observed in the mandibular molars (P < 0.05)., Conclusions: Surveyed monolithic zirconia crowns demonstrated high survival after 7 years of service. Monolithic zirconia is an excellent alternative to metal ceramic crowns for RPD abutments.

Background: Dentures can improve dental function and appearance in older people, but they may reduce oral health-related quality of life. Further research is needed to determine how denture wearing affects the general health and well-being of assisted living home residents. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was performed among 587 inmates of old-age homes in Andhra Pradesh with a self-administered, pretested questionnaire that consists of two sections. The first section of the questionnaire includes information on demographic factors and duration of stay in an old-age home, and data about denture maintenance and usage. The second section of the questionnaire consists of an Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP). For data presentation and analysis, IBM SPSS Statistics was used; descriptive statistics, the Chi-square test, and correlation were employed. P ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: In this study, the total satisfaction rate of complete denture (CD) users with good responses was 21.4% and for removable partial denture (RPD) users was 23.7%, which was statistically significant and was positively correlated. The overall OHIP for 1–5 years of denture users was high, with a mean of 53.8 ± 78.102, and a statistically significant difference existed between the CD and RPD users (P = 0.028). Conclusion: The overall satisfaction rate of RPD users was higher than the CD users and esthetics mainly impacts the satisfaction of dentures and the overall OHIP for 1–5 years of denture users was high.

Objective: To assess the clinical performance of tooth implant–supported removable partial dentures in terms of abutment survival in relation to the attachment system used. Methods: An electronic search in MEDLINE/PubMed Web of Science and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases was performed. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale. Survival rates after 3 years and 5 years, loss, and complication rates per 100 years were estimated by Poisson regression. Results: A total of twelve studies were included; eleven studies were used for the meta-analysis. Survival analysis for mixed attachments showed an estimated survival rate of 100% after 3 years and 5 years. For uniform attachments, the estimated survival rate was 99.3% after 3 years and 98.8% after 5 years. Tooth abutment survival analysis for mixed attachments estimated a survival rate of 95% after 3 years and 91.7% after 5 years: Uniform attachments reached a survival rate of 97.2% after 3 years and 95.4% after 5 years. The prosthetic survival rate was 100% for mixed and uniform abutments after 3 years and 5 years of function. Conclusions: Tooth implant–supported removable partial dentures can be considered as a reliable option with excellent prosthetic and implant survival rates and favorable rates for the abutments after 3-year and 5-year follow-ups. Complications may be reduced when 5 or more abutments are used. Clinical relevance: Tooth implant–supported removable partial dentures are a favorable and potential alternative to restore a partially edentulous arch by optimizing the number and distribution of abutments. The esthetic clasp material is a clinical demand for a satisfactory removable partial denture. The purpose of this study is to assess the mechanical performance of graphene-based polymer (GBP) and polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) materials as clasp materials. Thirty-two clasps were fabricated by CAD-CAM from two materials, GBP and PEEK. All clasps were tested for retention force after 10,000 cycles of insertion and removal and thermocycling. The clasp arms' deformation was measured, and areas of stress–strain concentration were explored. The Mann–Whitney U test was used to compare the retentive force of the studied groups, while the independent sample t-test was applied to check the difference in clasp arm deformation at α = 0.5. The results showed a significantly higher retentive force (2.248 ± 0.315 N) in PEEK clasps, at p < 0.001. The deformation of the clasp arm of the GBP clasps was significantly higher than PEEK clasps. Areas of stress–strain concentration were seen at the junction of the retentive arm to the minor connector and at the retentive arm terminal. It could be concluded that PEEK polymer had a better mechanical performance as an esthetic clasp material than the GBP. In dental there are various technologies for the fabrication of removable partial and complete dentures. During the process of our practice it has been found out that dental thermoforming technology can be applied in combination with the standard methods and tools, and, as a result, a temporary removable dental prosthesis construction for restoring the defects of the dental rows can be fabricated. The functional success of the prosthesis depends on many factors, but its stability in the oral cavity plays a vital role for its acceptance by the patient. The aim of the present article is to share our experience by presenting a protocol for the fabrication of temporary partial dental prostheses using dental thermoforming technology. In order to fulfill this goal a multidisciplinary team has been formed. We have talked to dentists and patients who agreed to test our idea in practice. We have observed more than 10 patients and collected photographic material, which is partially presented in the article. In general, the protocol we follow in some of the steps is linear, but there are several differences in the different laboratory stages and the materials used. It has been found that dental alveolar hooks are slightly elastic and posses aesthetic value. The parents have reported that denture structures are not only stable, but also comfortable and aesthetic. The dentists, who agreed to implement our idea, are surprised by the results and strongly support this method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To explore the factors leading to patient non-compliance toward pre-prosthetic mouth preparation. Study Design: Qualitative exploratory study. Place and Duration of Study: Prosthodontic Department of Islamabad Dental Hospital, Bara khau Islamabad Pakistan, from May to Jul 2020. Methodology: Semi-structured interviews were conducted from purposively selected fifteen partially dentate patients who were advised but had refused to get pre-prosthetic mouth preparation. Five content experts validated interview questions. After thematic analysis, the authors developed a consensus regarding themes and subthemes of factors that cause noncompliance of patients toward pre-prosthetic mouth preparation. Results: Eight themes emerged. Patients were afraid of extraction and scaling and were concerned about cross-infection control, and they were short of time due to busy schedules and lengthy procedures. Few diabetic patients could not go for extraction of their teeth immediately. Patients also refused due to financial constraints and lack of awareness regarding treatment protocols. Some believe myths that removing the teeth results in other diseases such as cancer. Few quoted previous bad dental experiences and were not willing for any pre-prosthetic procedure. In addition, patients were not satisfied with the treatment plan and the associated treatment cost. Conclusion: Fear or anxiety related to extraction or scaling, time and financial constraints, fear of delayed wound healing, and improper guidance regarding treatment protocols were central factors in refusing pre-prosthetic procedures. PURPOSE. The purpose of the study was to assess the influence of build orientations and density of support structures on the trueness of the 3D printed removable partial denture (RPD) frameworks. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A maxillary Kennedy class III and mandibular class I casts were 3D scanned and used to design and produce two 3D virtual models of RPD frameworks. Using digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing, 47 RPD frameworks were fabricated at 3 different build orientations (100, 135 and 150-degree angles) and 2 support structure densities. All frameworks were scanned and 3D compared to the original virtual RPD models by metrology software to check 3D deviations quantitatively and qualitatively. The accuracy data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA for build orientation comparison and independent sample t-test for structure density comparison at (α = .05). Points study analysis targeting RPD components and representative color maps were also studied. RESULTS. The build orientation of 135-degree angle of the maxillary frameworks showed the lowest deviation at the clasp arms of tooth 26 of the 135-degree angle group. The mandibular frameworks with 150-degree angle build orientation showed the least deviation at the rest on tooth 44 and the arm of the I-bar clasp of tooth 45. No significant difference was seen between different support structure densities. CONCLUSION. Build orientation had an influence on the accuracy of the frameworks, especially at a 135-degree angle of maxillary design and 150-degree of mandibular design. Abstract Background Caries in the elderly has been associated with dependence, oral-health status and -care practices. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the association between root/coronal caries and individual factors among institutionalised elderly people in Bogotá, Colombia, using the International Caries Detection and Assessment System severity and activity criteria (ICDAS). Methods A total of 226 institutionalised elderly were clinically examined for root and coronal caries in 40 institutions. Caries risk was assessed with Cariogram, and demographics, oral health knowledge and practices, oral health-related quality of life and denture-use habits using a questionnaire. Results Participants (mean age: 80.1 ± 9.3 years; 63.7% female) presented a mean number of 10.8 ± 7.3 teeth and 19.4 ± 18.8 exposed root surfaces. Prevalence of Coronal-ICDAS caries experience (C-ICDAS DF) was of 100% and of 54.4% for C-ICDAS D; mean number of C-ICDAS DFS was 16.76 ± 27.36, with 50.9% of subjects having ≥ one active C-ICDAS DS. Prevalence of Root Caries Index was of 49.1% and of R-ICDAS DF of 46%; mean number of R-ICDAS DFS was 2.03 ± 2.78, with 40.3% of subjects having ≥ one active R-ICDAS DS. Most individuals had a systemic condition (94.2%) and required oral-hygiene assistance (58%). Logistic regression analyses showed significant associations (p eight exposed root surfaces were 4.04 more likely to have root caries and 2.4 times more likely to have active root caries. Conclusion In the institutionalised elderly population in Bogotá significant associations were found, both for the presence as for the activity status of root and coronal caries, with individual clinical factors including coronal caries, exposed root surfaces and number of teeth.

Abstract Background An increase in the number of elderly edentulous patients likely leads to a greater demand for dentures and denture adhesives. As denture adhesives have both positive and negative features, dentists need to know the types of denture adhesive users to be able to provide instruction to denture wearers on how to use denture adhesives effectively. This study aims to examine the utilization of denture adhesives and associated factors. Methods Seven closed-ended questionnaires were developed for a web-based survey. After that, Fisher’s exact tests were performed to determine the difference in the denture adhesive usage rate by gender, type of denture, last dental visit, and smoking status. A multivariate-adjusted logistic regression analysis was performed with denture adhesive use or non-use as the dependent variable and the other items as independent variables. Next, Fisher’s exact tests and a multivariate-adjusted logistic regression analysis were performed with the type of denture adhesives as the dependent variable in the same way. Statistical analyses were performed for all denture wearers, complete denture wearers, and partial denture wearers. The level of statistical significance was set at p = 0.05. Results A total of 1470 denture wearers in Japan participated in this study. Of these, 318 used denture adhesives, while 212 (66.7%) used cream; 74 (23.3%) used home liner; 25 (7.9%) used powder; four (1.3%) used sheets; and three (0.9%) used several types. Background: Finite element analysis (FEA) is one of the best methods for evaluating the stress distribution of restorations, such as fixed partial dentures. The development of resin cement has transformed prosthesis bonding and retention properties. Resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPD) have been considered minimally invasive treatment options for the prosthetic rehabilitation of single missing teeth.Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress load and distribution in four different designs of acid-etched RBFPDs using FEA.Materials and Methods: The designs included standard tooth preparation principles and additional features. The first premolar and first molar abutments replaced the missing second premolar. Designs 1, 2, 3, and 4 included (1) lingual wings and occlusal rests; (2) wings and proximal slices; (3) wings, rests, and grooves; and (4) wings, rests, grooves, and occlusal coverage. The prepared models were restored with RBFPDs. A load of 100 N was applied to the central groove of the pontic to simulate occlusal forces. The materials used in the models were considered to be isotropic, homogeneous, and linearly elastic. FEA was used to reveal stresses acting on the abutment, bone, and connector in all prosthesis designs.Results: The stresses transmitted to the abutment and bones were lowest for design 3, using wings, rests, and grooves. The stresses acting on the connector were the weakest in design 2. The stresses transmitted to the abutment and bone were highest in designs 1 and 4. The stresses transmitted to the connector were highest in design 3.Conclusion: The wings, rests, and grooves design is possibly the ideal and conservative tooth preparation design to receive a posterior RBFPD. This design transmits less stress to the abutments and less bone resorption in the FEA. It is most likely to be successful in the clinical provision and ensures the longevity of the prosthesis.

Background: The use of removable partial dentures (PPR) has been associated with the presence of dental caries. Aim: To explore in partially dentate institutionalized elderlies from Bogotá the correlation of the presence of dental caries with the use of PPR and, with practices its use and care. Methods: Three dentists assessed the presence of active/inactive coronal/radicular caries lesions using ICDAS visual criteria and, in PPR carriers, their care practices, using a questionnaire. A descriptive analysis and exploration of correlations were carried out using a bivariate model, with the presence of at least one coronal/radicular caries/active caries lesion as the outcome variable. Results: In a universe of 226 individuals aged 80.1±9.3 years, predominantly women (63.7 %), it was found that 69 used PPR in at least one maxilla. The latter had an average age of 80.5±9.5 years and 8.4±5.9 teeth. The prevalence of coronal caries lesions was 43.5 % and radicular 50.7 %, mainly active (80.0 % and 85.7 % respectively). PPR wearers had less coronal caries/active coronal caries than non-users. In the PPR group, the number of people who cleaned them daily and did not have active root caries was significantly higher than that of those who did not. The number of individuals without root caries who cleaned their PPRs =2 times per day was significantly higher than those who brushed less frequently (p<0.05). The conventional centrifugal casting of Ni-Cr (N)-based alloys is commercially established process for the preparation of partial/complete dentures. But hitherto little has been reported on the multi-factor optimisation of N-based alloys in conventional centrifugal casting. This study concentrates on preparation of N-based partial dentures by using lost wax technique in different proportions (by weight %) of Ni (R) as an input parameter. The other input parameters were investment powder to water ratio (P) and pH value (Q) of water used (for mixing the investment). The samples prepared were subjected to measurement of dimensional deviation/accuracy (Δd), surface roughness (Ra) and micro hardness (HV). Finally, after obtaining required properties, multi-factor optimisation has been performed. The results are supported by optical photomicrographs (2D and 3D rendered images). The results of study highlight that N-based partial denture cast at best settings of input parameters (i.e. P (100/12), Q (pH 7) of water with R (61%) gives overall better performance and in-vitro analysis indicates that the partial dentures cast with R (65%) showed the maximum biocompatibility with NIH3T3 cells and are capable of supporting cell proliferation and cell adhesion. Purpose: This study assessed the cost-effectiveness from a societal perspective of a dental implant compared with a three-unit tooth-supported fixed partial denture (FPD) for the replacement of a single tooth in 2010. Materials and Methods: A decision tree was developed to estimate cost-effectiveness over a 10-year period. The survival rates of single-tooth implants and FPDs were extracted from a meta-analysis of single-arm studies. Medical costs included initial treatment costs, maintenance costs, and costs to treat complications. Patient surveys were used to obtain the costs of the initial single-tooth implant or FPD. Maintenance costs and costs to treat complications were based on surveys of seven clinical experts at dental clinics or hospitals. Transportation costs were calculated based on the number of visits for implant or FPD treatment. Patient time costs were estimated using the number of visits and time required, hourly wage, and employment rate. Future costs were discounted by 5% to convert to present values. Results: The results of a 10-year period model showed that a single dental implant cost US $261 (clinic) to $342 (hospital) more than an FPD and had an average survival rate that was 10.4% higher. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was $2,514 in a clinic and $3,290 in a hospital for a prosthesis in situ for 10 years. The sensitivity analysis showed that initial treatment costs and survival rate influenced the cost-effectiveness. If the cost of an implant were reduced to 80% of the current cost, the implant would become the dominant intervention. Conclusion: Although the level of evidence for effectiveness is low, and some aspects of single-tooth implants or FPDs, such as satisfaction, were not considered, this study will help patients requiring single-tooth replacement to choose the best treatment option. Purpose: This study was performed to examine how denture wearing improves jaw and neck muscle coordination during chewing in partially edentulous elderly patients. Methods: Sixteen patients classified as Eichner’s index B2 or B3 and 16 young dentate subjects were enrolled. Jaw and neck muscle activities during chewing were recorded using electromyography with and without denture wearing, then analyzed using intermuscular Electromyography (EMG)-EMG transfer and EMG-EMG coherence function analyses to clarify quantitative, temporal, and functional coordination of jaw and neck muscle activities while chewing. Occlusal force and masticatory scores were also determined. Results: Denture wearing increased the power values for jaw closing muscle activities, and improved occlusal area and force, and masticatory score. Gain values for jaw closing and opening muscle activities were decreased in those wearing dentures compared to those not wearing dentures. Denture wearing resulted in equivalent gain values for jaw closing and opening muscle activities as compared to the young subjects. Coherence values for chewing and nonchewing side neck muscle activities were increased as compared to not denture wearing. Conclusions: The suitability of denture wearing can be evaluated from the viewpoint of gain as a quantitative parameter showing coordination between jaw closing and opening muscle activities. Such evaluation can be performed from the viewpoint of coherence as a parameter of functional coordination between jaw and neck muscle activities during chewing in partially edentulous elderly patients. Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the trueness of removable partial denture clasps fabricated with titanium (Ti) through the selective laser melting (SLM) technique compared to cobalt-chromium alloys (CoCr)., Materials and Methods: A virtual Aker clasp was designed on a scanned tooth, and SLM printers were used to print 20 claps using cobalt chromium (n = 10) and titanium alloy (n = 10). The deviation between the printed clasps and reference design was measured using the surface matching software (Geomagic control x) at rest, retentive tip, reciprocal tip, retentive shoulder, and reciprocal shoulder. An Independent t-test was used to determine the influence of 3D-printed material on the trueness (a = 0.05)., Results: The gap distance in mm between the reference design and printed in titanium showed an average of 0.0001 ±0.0544, 0.0256 ±0.1309, 0.0230 ±0.1028, 0.0701 ±0.1234, and 0.0013 ±0.0735 mm in rest, reciprocal arm tip, retentive arm tip, retentive arm shoulder, and reciprocal arm shoulder, respectively. The gap distance in mm between the reference design and printed clasps in CoCr alloy showed an average of 0.0316 ±0.0692, 0.2783 ±0.1678, 0.1446 ±0.1528, 0.0315 ±0.0906, and 0.0419 ±0.1088 mm in rest, reciprocal arm tip, retentive arm tip, retentive arm shoulder, and reciprocal arm shoulder, respectively. Accidental ingestion of these foreign objects is not uncommon, with the majority of patients having an uneventful passage of the object through the gastrointestinal tract. Of those patients requiring intervention, endoscopy is the most common, followed by surgical removal. Context: Edentulism is a handicap that affects the quality of life and nutrition. Tooth loss leads to functional impairment at the level of the orofacial system, significantly interfering with chewing, swallowing and speech, as well as to temporomandibular joint dysfunction, disorders of intermaxillary relation, and facial physiognomy. Aim: The aim of the study was to explore variables that influence self-reported oral health and denture satisfaction in partially and completely edentulous patients using oral health impact profile for edentulous (OHIP-EDENT). Materials and Methods: A hospital-based study was carried out on the patient's age ranged from 30 to 70 years in the dental college who had been treated with complete dentures and removable partial denture using convenience sampling method. Prevalidated questionnaire consisting of OHIP-EDENT was self-administered to all the study participants. The information about the appetite, perceived general and oral health, and satisfaction from the dentures was recorded using a 4-point Likert scale. Data were collected, entered, and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. One-way ANOVA was performed to test for comparison between different denture groups. P < 0.05 shows statistically significant difference. Results: When the mean of denture satisfaction level was calculated between different denture group and different domains of OHIP-EDENT, there was no difference found in level of denture satisfaction between different denture groups, i.e., overall denture satisfaction mean in Group 1 was 2.18 ± 0.32, Group 2 has 2.23 ± 0.36, Group 3 has the mean of 2.18 ± 0.42, Group 4 has 2.23 ± 0.67, and P value was 0.810 which shows nonsignificant difference. Conclusion: The results of the present study suggest that the poor self-perceived satisfaction among denture wearers affect their quality of life.

Objectives: Several in vitro studies have investigated the retention of double crowns with friction pins (DCP); however, clinical data on their long-term success have not been reported. We sought to evaluate the 5-year survival rate of DCPs in patients with severely reduced dentition (SRD) and not severely reduced dentition (NSRD). Materials and methods: A total of 158 patients were treated with 182 dentures on 520 abutment teeth between 2006 and 2016. The SRD group included 144 dentures that had been inserted on 314 abutment teeth. We evaluated the influence of age, sex, jaw, number, tooth vitality, and abutment teeth localization (according to Steffel's classification) on the 60-month survival rates of dentures and abutment teeth using the Kaplan-Meier estimator, logrank test, and Cox regression. Results: The cumulative 60-month survival rate was 84.3% (CI 77.1–91.5%) for all dentures; however, the survival rate in the SRD group (80.3%; CI 71.5–89.1%) was significantly lower than in the NSRD group (100%; p = 0.04). Dentures classified in Steffel's class A had the lowest survival rate (51.5%; CI 30.9–72.1%). Number, location, and vitality of the abutment teeth had a significant impact on survival rate. Conclusions: DCP dentures showed comparable clinical long-term success to double crown systems that have been previously reported in the literature. The number, localization, and vitality of abutment teeth had the greatest influence on the survival rates of denture and abutment teeth. Clinical relevance: DCP dentures have an acceptable 5-year survival rate. Clinical treatment planning must take into account key factors associated with the prognosis of the abutment teeth. The temporomandibular joint, also known as the jaw joint is a differentiated joint that differs from the other joints in the human body due to its specificity. Under temporomandibular disorders implied term that defines a subset of patients‘ orofacial disorders involving many different complains of pain that can occur in patients. These include pain in the temporomandibular joint, fatigue of the craniofacial muscles, especially the masticatory muscles, then limitation of the mandibular movement and the presence of the articular movement. Temporomandibular joint disorder is a common health problem. The etiology of temporomandibular disorders is multifactorial. The most common factors are occlusal obstruction, tooth loss, emotional stress, dysfunction of the masticatory muscles as well as adjacent structures, and internal and external changes in the structure of the temporomandibular joint or a combination of such factors. The main purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of temporomandibular disorders in patients with total and partial toothless, as well as to estimate the time of use and the reason for wearing the partial and total denture, to determine the prevalence of temporomandibular disorders in correlation with age, gender, nationality and degree of education of patients and to determine if there is pain and clicks in the temporomandibular joint. The study included 30 patients from Skopje aged 46 to 85 years, 17 women and 13 men. All the respondents in this study met the following criteria: the presence of any type of prosthetic device in the oral cavity; patients in need of renewal or replacement of the prosthetic appliance for aesthetic and/or functional reasons; patients who need to make prosthetic devices in the oral cavity. The presented data were obtained from the research conducted in the period from 15.11.2019 to 28.01.2020 in which the following procedures were performed: anamnestic data, clinical examination and filling in a specially created questionnaire for patients. Based on the obtained data, their analysis and the obtained results from our research, we can give the following conclusions: we registered a higher prevalence of temporomandibular disorders in patients with total compared to patients with partial dentures; pain during lateral movements is more pronounced in patients with total dentures; regarding the causes that led to total or partial toothless, we can conclude that in patients with total toothless periodontitis is much more prevalent, while in patients with partial toothless the main cause is caries; there is no association between the prevalence of temporomandibular disorders with ethnicity, gender and level of education in patients with total and partial toothless; regarding the presence of pain in the temporomandibular joint, we noticed equal presence in both groups, while clicking in the temporomandibular joint was present in a larger number of patients with partial dentures. Introduction: Partial edentulism is a condition where one or more teeth are missing but never all. The consequences of not replacing missing tooth/teeth include supra eruption of the opposing tooth/teeth, mesial drifting of adjacent tooth/ teeth, inability to talk properly, changes in facial features, and sinus expansion which lead to chronic headache finally temporomandibular disorders. Studies strongly suggest that dental caries and periodontal diseases were the major causes of tooth loss in early childhood and adolescence. Transgender community does not bother about their oral health because of their lower socioeconomic status and negligence in society. Hence, this study aims at creating awareness among the transgender to avoid the above consequences. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire-based survey had been designed and was used for the study. The descriptive survey was conducted for 96 transgenders who were about 30-50 years old. Results were entered into Microsoft Excel SPSS version 20, and analyzed. Results: Most of the transgender aware of the partial edentulism state while 47% were not aware of the partial edentulism state. This implies that transgender has a good knowledge about partial edentulism. About 65% of transgender communities were aware of the treatments of partial edentulism while 35% were not that much aware of the treatments for the condition. Conclusion: The knowledge on awareness of partial edentulous condition is good but the practice and the attitude toward the replacement of missing teeth/tooth is relatively considered to be poor. An altered cast impression technique is routinely used for fabricating distal-extension partial dentures. The advantages of an altered cast impression technique are that it evenly distributes stresses between hard and soft tissues and reduces stresses to the abutment teeth. However, there is some controversy among clinicians as to the technique and requirements of both tooth and tissue management of the distal-extension partial denture. A modified approach of fabricating a distal-extension partial denture is presented using a laboratory-processed functional reline method. The functional reline is performed after the removable partial denture is processed to perfect the fit of the denture base to the residual ridge. This enables the partial denture to be constructed from a cast made from a single impression and results in a prosthesis that is stable and has well-extended borders. Not only is it easy and less technique-sensitive for the operator, but it also results in increased comfort and reduced need for multiple adjustment visits for the patient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A 35-year-old female presented missing her maxillary right first premolar, left central and lateral incisors, and left second premolar and mandibular left first molar. The referring dentist had requested that only the maxillary left first molar be intruded to facilitate the prosthodontic replacement of the missing mandibular left first molar. After clinical examination and consultation with her dentist, it was decided to protract the mandibular left second and third molars, intrude the maxillary left first molar, replace the missing incisors with a temporary partial denture, and restore the missing maxillary right first premolar with an implant. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate whether there was a relationship between removable denture-related oral mucosal lesions and denture type, and demographic characteristics. Materials and Method: The age, sex, denture type, systemic condition and medication use, presence of denture-related oral mucosal lesions (DROML), their locations and patients’ awareness of above mentioned lesions were recorded for 199 patients. Pearson chi-square test was used to analyse the relationship between the DROML and denture type, and demographic characteristics of the patients. Results: Among the patients included to the study, 122 (61.3%) were female and 77 (38.7%) were male. Ninety-six patients (48.2%) exhibited DROML, whereas 103 patients (51.8%) had no DROML. This case report compares a conventional and a digital workflow for manufacturing metal frameworks for maxillary and mandibular removable partial dentures (RPDs). Two sets of maxillary and mandible RPDs were produced. The metal framework of one set of RPDs was produced conventionally using the lost wax casting technique. Intraoralscanning and computer-aided designing (CAD) were used to fabricate the metal frameworks of the other set of RPDs using direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) technology. The accuracy of fit of the two sets of RPDs was evaluated after 3 months using replica models. Patient satisfaction was assessed. Two years later, the fit accuracy of the DMLS prosthesis and patient satisfaction were re-evaluated. The accuracy of fit in the maxillary RPD with the DLMS manufactured metal framework showed better results in all areas except areas of rests (457 vs. 421 μm) and the major connector (850 vs. 512 μm). The mandibular RPD with DLMS manufactured metal framework showed only in the areas of the reciprocal arm and major connector better fit accuracy compared to the conventional RPD. The patient satisfaction with the DLMS manufactured RPDs was rated equally to the conventional one. Removable partial dentures (RPDs) offer a broad range of aesthetics and restorative functions for partially edentulous patients. This systematic review examines patients' satisfaction rates and the factors that influence RPD satisfaction. This systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines and the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews. A systematic literature search was done on PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using preset inclusion criteria. A total of 923 non-duplicate articles were screened, and 35 were included in this review. Among the included studies, RPDs generally exhibited high satisfaction rates, with reported rates ranging between 50% and 81%. Several factors influenced satisfaction. Age played a major role, with older adults expressing higher satisfaction. Gender differences were also noted, especially in appearance satisfaction where women were more satisfied with RPDs than men. Prior experience with RPDs correlated positively with overall satisfaction. The number and location of missing teeth, as well as the type of RPD (metal vs. flexible), significantly influenced satisfaction levels. Flexible dentures were more satisfactory than metal RPDs. Attachments, such as magnetic attachments and implants, increased satisfaction. Patient complaints, encompassing pain, aesthetics, and cleanliness, were identified as common sources of dissatisfaction. The results underscore the significance of customizing RPD treatment to individual needs, considering factors that influence RPD satisfaction. Patients with Down's syndrome have several dental complications such as small teeth caused by underdevelopment of dentin and enamel, periodontitis, agenesis of teeth, prolonged retention of primary teeth and malocclusion due to narrow palate. Removable denture with maxillary double crowns would be a good treatment option to solve the problems of the patient with Down's syndrome. Double crowns compensate the insufficient support and retention of denture and easily solve the cross bite problem. Double crowns also allow easy repair of denture in case of abutment teeth extraction. In this case, 26-year-old female patient with Down's syndrome and dental phobia had small number of teeth with enamel hypoplasia, prolonged retention of primary teeth and dental cross bite. Prosthetic treatment was done using removable denture with double crowns in the maxilla. In the mandible, teeth preparation was done on enamel margin without anesthesia. Anterior laminate and posterior complete zirconia crown restorations were performed. As a result, the cross bite was effectively corrected by denture with double crowns. Pronunciation and appearance were also improved without extraction of teeth and dental anesthesia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Various attachment systems have been used to facilitate the retention, stability, and support of overdentures. The low profile design, pivoting technology, and durability of the Locator attachment made it one of the commonly used tissue‐supported implant‐retained overdentures. It has been successfully used to retain overdentures as well as partial dentures. This article describes the uses of the new Locator R‐Tx abutment and illustrates both the direct and indirect techniques used to process the denture attachment housing into the prosthesis to retain overdentures and partial dentures.
