Based on comparative morphological and genetic evidence, a new species of fairyfly, Platystethynium (Platystethynium) apteron Triapitsyn sp. n. (Hymenoptera: Mymaridae), is described from a soil sample collected in the Veneto Region of Italy. The females are apterous; the males are unknown. Eggs of two species of Tettigoniidae (Orthoptera), Barbitistes vicetinus Galvagni and Fontana and Eupholidoptera schmidti (Fieber), with parasitoid exit holes were found in the soil sample, so one or both of these could be the hosts of P. apteron. The new taxon is the only known species of Platystethynium Ogloblin with wingless females. A key to females of the three currently recognised species of the rarely collected Old World P. Data on the occurrence of non-biting moth flies (Diptera, Psychodidae) from the area of Králický Sněžník Mts and neighbouring environs is presented. A total of 56 species are recorded. Seven species are critically endangered: Philosepedon (Trichosepedon) balkanicum Krek, 1971; Clytocerus (Boreoclytocerus) rivosus (Tonnoir, 1919); Saraiella parva (Vaillant, 1963); S. rotunda (Krek, 1970); Szaboiella hibernica (Tonnoir, 1940); Tonnoiriella nigricauda (Tonnoir, 1919) and Ulomyia plumata (Tonnoir, 1919). Four species are endangered: Threticus incurvus Krek, 1972; Pneumia stammeri (Jung, 1956); P. vittata (Tonnoir, 1919) and Ulomyia vaseki Ježek, 2002. Two species are vulnerable: Threticus arvernicus Vaillant, 1972 and T. silvaticus Ježek, 1985. Moreover, one species which has unfortunately so far not assessed useful conservation status (NS, nationally scarce, used newly in the past): Berdeniella vimmeri Ježek, 1995 is also recorded. A basic prerequisite for the understanding and protection of biodiversity is the building of a high-quality faunal and taxonomic base. This knowledge can be applied to the protection of endangered species (14 in this account), as well as in the management of their habitats, often destroyed by developers of large mountain touristic bases. We present the first faunal analysis of the ants (Formicidae) of the Kingdom of Bahrain (Bahrain), an island nation in the Arabian Gulf. We document a total of 35 ant species based on published, unpublished and new specimen records, including 26 presumed native species and nine non-native tramp species. The native fauna was predominantly of Palaearctic origin, with a few Afrotropical species. A new species of the genus Lepisiota Santschi, 1926, L. bahrainensissp. n., is described and illustrated based on the worker caste. Habitat suitability modelling of the ant fauna of Bahrain was generated using a total of 157 recorded points against the panel of 19 bioclimatic factors. We used Maxent software to generate the final map which indicates a significantly high and excellent habitat suitability of species on the northern part of the country and high suitability on the eastern coasts. Our results show that the mean temperature of the driest season is the most effective parameter in modelling the distribution, and we present interpretations of the very low habitat suitability in the extremely arid desert in the southern regions of the main island. Two new species of soldier beetles of the genus Malthinus Latreille, 1805, M. meskhetinus sp. n. and M. mitarbiensis sp. n., are described from the Mitarbi valley in the Meskheti Mountains, Georgia. The total number of Malthinus species registered in Georgia is thus raised to ten, three of them being endemic to the country. Malthinus turcicus Pic, 1899 is for the first time recorded from Georgia, with its aedeagus illustrated by photographs for the first time. Diostracus khevsureticus sp. n. from highlands of Georgia and D. osseticus sp. n. from highlands of South Ossetia are described and illustrated and associated with the subgenus Lagodechia Negrobov et Tsurikov, 1996, comprising now three Caucasian species and three species from Oriental China. Diostracus kustovi Grichanov, 2013 is frstly recorded from Georgia. A key to fve Diostracus Loew, 1861 species known from the Caucasus is provided.

A total of 73 species belonging to 30 genera of the family Nolidae are recognized in Korea. This study reports two additional Nolinae species, with a newly recorded genus Nanola László, Ronkay G, Witt, 2010. Additionally, a checklist and illustrations of adults and genitalia of newly recorded species are provided.

Homalernis fluctuosa Suzuki & Jinbo, sp. nov., is described and illustrated from Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Tsushima Island, Amamiooshima Island, and Okinawajima Island, Japan. This is not only the first record of the genus Homalernis but also of the tribe Schoenotenini from warm temperate zones in the Palaearctic region. The association of males and females of the new species was confirmed based on the mitochondrial gene cytochrome oxidase submit 1 (COI). We discuss the taxonomic positions of two alleged Homalernis species from Malaysia and the taxonomic position of Homalernis within Schoenotenini.

A fundamental prerequisite for understanding and protecting biodiversity is the construction of a high-quality faunal database. The primary objective of this study was to address knowledge gaps in the biodiversity of the family Psychodidae in Estonia. Faunistic data on 45 species of moth flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) from Estonia are presented, including 30 new country-records. Sixteen species are considered important for nature conservation. An updated checklist of the family, comprising 71 species, is provided for the Baltic countries. Habitus photographs of selected Estonian species are also included. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anthomyza gilviventris Roháček & Barber, 2016, hitherto known only from the Nearctic Region, is recorded from the Palaearctic Region (NE Sweden) for the first time. Specimens from the Swedish population have been compared with those of A. gilviventris from Canada and the USA and those of A. tschirnhausi Roháček, 2009 from the Kamchatka Peninsula (Far East of Russia). Both morphological and molecular analyses (BI and RAxML, based on seven DNA markers: 12S, 16S, 28S, COI, COII, CytB, ITS2) confirmed that the Swedish specimens belong to A. gilviventris. Because no specimen of A. tschirnhausi has been available for molecular study, the most diagnostic morphological characters used for separation of this species from A. gilviventris have been re-evaluated with respect to Swedish specimens, and their variability discussed. However, these differences, although stable, are relatively small and, consequently, the possibility that they fall within the limits of a single variable species has not been entirely eliminated. Prosoponoides shaanxisp. n. is described, based on a single male from high altitude in the Qinling Mountains, Shaanxi Province, China. The species is similar to both Oriental Prosoponoides hamatumMillidge & Russell-Smith, 1992 and P. sinense (Chen, 1991), but it can easily be distinguished by structural details of the palp. A new subgenus of Borbonalia Novák, 2014 - Chinalia subgen. nov. with type species Borbonalia (Chinalia) xiaoica sp. nov. from China (Sichuan Province) is described as well as the following new species Borbonalia (Chinalia) mulinziica sp. nov. from China (Hubei Province) and Borbonalia (Chinalia) yaoguica sp. nov. from China (Guizhou Province). A list of 148 species of megachilid bees from 16 genera and five tribes is reported for the Republic of Dagestan. The list is based on more than 2,500 examined specimens and one reliable literature record. Twelve species are new to Russia: Chelostoma (Chelostoma) emarginatum (Nylander, 1856), C. (Foveosmia) maidli (Benoist, 1935), Hoplitis (Alcidamea) campanularis (Morawitz, 1877), H. (A.) caucasica (Friese, 1920), H. (Anthocopa) perezi (Ferton, 1894), H. (Pentadentosmia) tringa (Warncke, 1991), Osmia (Allosmia) melanura Morawitz, 1871, O. (Helicosmia) breviata Warncke, 1988, O. (Osmia) scheherazade Peters, 1978, O. (Pyrosmia) saxicola Ducke, 1899, Anthidium (Anthidium) taeniatum Latreille, 1809, and Megachile (Chalicodoma) montenegrensis Dours, 1873. Nine other species are new to the North Caucasus, and 46 other species are new to Dagestan. Compared to the first list of the bees of Dagestan published by F. The horseshoe bats of the Rhinolophus ferrumequinum group form a well‐defined lineage within the Afro‐Palaearctic clade of the genus Rhinolophus. The group currently comprises four species widely distributed across the Palaearctic and Afrotropic regions: R. bocharicus (Central Asia), R. clivosus (from northern Africa and the Levant through Arabian Peninsula and eastern Africa to southern Africa), R. ferrumequinum (from western Europe and northern Africa through the Balkans and Middle East to Central Asia and India) and R. nippon (southern and central China, Korea, and Japan). The broad ranges and geographical variations within these species have led to the proposal of numerous subspecies. The phylogenetic relationships and intraspecific variation of the R. ferrumequinum group were investigated using a genetic approach. One mitochondrial marker and five nuclear markers were sequenced and supplemented with available sequences for all four species of the group. Our study revealed five major lineages within the R. ferrumequinum group, resulting in the recognition of four currently known species and identification of a new species. The prior name available for this lineage/species is R. acrotis. The relationships between the lineages varied depending on the chosen marker, leaving the interspecific relations within the ferrumequinum group unresolved. In addition, the results indicated that R. clivosus experienced historic introgression from northern Africa and the Levant, resulting in replacement of its mtDNA by that of R. ferrumequinum. The present paper highlighted the occurrence of Timarcha turbida (Erichson 1841) as an artichoke pest for the first time in Tunisian crops. In fact, Timarcha was never be reported previously to develop on a Compositae (Asteraceae) host plant. A new species, Cardiocondyla hashemisp. n. is described and illustrated using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) based on the worker caste. Cardiocondyla hashemi is a member of the C. batesii species-group with a resemblance to C. tenuifrons Seifert, 2003 from Jordan. Cardiocondyla hashemi can be readily distinguished by the uniform yellow body, the rare or distinctly scattered foveolae on the posterior third of cephalic surface, the broadly medially concave anterior clypeal margin, the sculptured mesosomal dorsum except for the mesonotum which is shallowly sculptured with faint longitudinal rugae, and petiolar node distinctly densely microreticulate. New records of 105 species of ichneumonids of the subfamily Ctenopelmatinae from Russia and adjacent territories are provided based on the collection of the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences. Among them, 28 species are recorded in Russia for the first time. New data on the distribution of 54 ctenopelmatine species in the European part of Russia, the North Caucasus, Crimea, Siberia, and the Russian Far East are provided. The genera Synomelix Foerster, 1869 (with 3 species) and Bremiella Dalla Torre, 1901 are recorded in Russia for the first time. A replacement name Anoncus bipunctatornom. n. is proposed for the praeoccupied name Mesoleius bipunctatus Brischke. In the subfamily Tryphoninae, the genus Aderaeon Townes et Townes, 1949, stat. resurr. (with five species) and the tribe Exenterini, stat. resurr. (with 15 genera and about 250 species), are resurrected. These taxa were recently synonymized with the genus Erromenus and the tribe Tryphonini, respectively, in the fundamental cladistic revision of the Tryphoninae genera (Bennet, 2015). Both taxa show a high level of morphological isolation and have autapomorphies well separating them not only from other tryphonines, but also from all other Ichneumonidae. Cladistic analysis ignoring such important morphological novelties that constitute high-rank autapomorphies, as well as specific evolutionary trends including the formation of novel morphological types of egg and ovipositor in these groups, would lead to unjustified destruction of the existing system. A new monotypic subgenus Praectenochirasubgen. n. is described in the genus Ctenochira Foerster, 1855 (tribe Tryphonini). The subgenus is established for a morphologically extremely primitive species, C.orientalis Kasparyan, 1993, whose placement in Ctenochira is defined by the presence of areas with sensilla on the ventral side of the flagellomeres, a wide ovipositor sheath, and a sting-like ovipositor typical of this genus; yet three other synapomorphies defining the genus Ctenochira, namely the polished bulge at the mandible base, the transverse depression behind the middle of the second metasomal tergite, and the characteristic dorsal notch at the ovipositor sheath apex, are absent in the new subgenus. Ctenochira basipectinata Lee et Cha, 1993 (December) is synonymized with Ctenochira orientalis Kasparyan, 1993 (October), syn. n. A new genus Orthodoliusgen. n. (type species Cteniscus pectoralis Hellén, 1951) is established in the resurrected tribe Exenterini for two closely related species currently placed in Orthomiscus Mason, 1955 or Kristotomus Mason, 1962: Orthodolius pectoralis (Hellén, 1951), comb. n. and O.amurensis (Kasparyan, 1986), comb. n. The new genus is distinguished from Orthomiscus and Kristotomus by the more primitive structure of the mandibles and the almost unmodified apex of the hind tibia; it differs from all the genera of Exenterini in gregarious parasitism on Cimbicidae sawflies (as established for O.pectoralis). An important diagnostic feature of the genus Exenterus Hartig, 1837 is emphasized, namely the fusion (unmovable fixed connection) of the second and third metasomal tergites. This feature, not included by A. Bennett in his analysis of the subfamily, is extremely rare in Ichneumonidae (found in the genera Polyaulon Foerster, 1869 and Syndipnus Foerster, 1869, as well as in the Rhorusmesoxanthus species-group of the genus Rhorus Foerster, 1869), but constitutes a basic synapomorphy for the family Braconidae. New data about Moroccan soldier flies (Stratiomyidae) are presented in the present study that discusses 15 species. Six species are recorded as new to the fauna of Morocco, four of which, Oxycera analis Wiedemann in Meigen, 1822, O. flava (Lindner, 1938), O. marginata Loew, 18959, and Chorisops tibialis (Meigen, 1820) are new records for North Africa. Oxycera morrisii (Curtis, 1833) is recorded for the first time in Morocco. Hermetia illucens (Linnaeus, 1758) was recently reported based on a personal communication without details but is now also formally added. It adds a new subfamily to the Moroccan fauna, the Hermetiinae. Notes on taxonomy, distribution and biology of the species are added. The male of O. flava is described and illustrated. The click-beetle genus Elathous Reitter, 1890 (Elateridae: Dendrometrinae) contains almost 50 species distributed in the Palaearctic and Nearctic realms. Specimens of this genus are rare in collections, partly due to their largely unknown biology and ecology. Until now, larvae were known only for three species, all of them described decades ago. Due to the intensive fieldwork research by the first author, who found larvae of Elathous agilis Németh, 2019 in Lebanon and Elathous brucki (Candèze, 1878) in Greece, we have an opportunity to describe their morphology for the first time. We compare them with each other and the remaining known larvae of Elathous and related genera. Although we are able to differentiate larvae of all known Elathous species, our limited knowledge on dendrometrine immature stages as well as the genus-level systematics is insufficient to propose a reliable generic diagnosis for Elathous based on the larval morphology. Two new species of the genus Houaphanica Novák, 2020 from China (Fujian Province) are described as follows: Houaphanica wuyishanica sp. nov. and Houaphanica ziyungdongica sp. nov. The purpose of this application, under Article 75.6 of the Code, is to conserve the current usage of the combination Gymnocheta viridis (Fallén, 1810) for a species of Palaearctic tachinid fly by setting aside the existing holotype of Tachina viridisFallén, 1810 and designating a neotype in its place. The holotype is not in taxonomic accord with the current usage of the name Gymnocheta viridis and is instead conspecific with the lectotype of Gymnocheta magnaZimin, 1958. Stability and universality will be threatened if the existing holotype of Gymnocheta viridis is not replaced by a neotype, because Gymnocheta viridis will become the valid name for Gymnocheta magna and a replacement name will be needed for the current Gymnocheta viridis. An updated checklist of Iranian Syrphidae (Diptera: Syrphoidea) is presented based on literature records with the latest taxonomic and nomenclatural changes. A total of 269 valid species in 70 genera among four subfamilies have been known from Iran, which is approximately 4.27 percent of the world’s total known Syrphidae. Among these, 145 species and 31 genera were added to the previous list. Of the 70 genera Eumerus Meigen (35 species, 13.01%) and Merodon Meigen (26 species, 9.67%), are the most specious, whereas 30 genera are represented in Iran by only one recorded species. The majority of Iranian hoverfly species are exclusively distributed in the Palaearctic region, while 21 species are known only from Iran and possibly endemic to the country.

The rare European species Atrichobrunettia (Mirousiella) graeca Ježek et Goutner, 1993 and the invasive species Clogmia albipunctata (Williston, 1893) (both Diptera: Psychodidae) are newly recorded from “Dunele Marine de la Agigea” Nature Reserve from Romania. The updated checklist of non-Phlebotomine species of the family Psychodidae for Romania with 53 species is given.

Available information about bees of the genus Epeolus in Central Asia is summarized. Twenty species are currently known from this area. Two new species are described: E. albus Astafurova & Proshchalykin, sp. nov. and E. pesenkoi Astafurova, sp. nov. Two species are newly recorded from Central Asia: E. asiaticus Astafurova & Proshchalykin, 2022 and E. nudiventris Bischoff, 1930. The hitherto unknown male of E. mikhailovi Astafurova & Proshchalykin, 2021 is described, and lectotypes are designated for E. ruficornis Morawitz, 1875 and E. vinogradovi Popov, 1952. Many original descriptions of beetles were published in Latin with specific idioms and technical terms, which are sometimes difficult to understand. The exact meaning of these descriptions is necessary for taxonomic and systematic research. Of the ten Palaearctic Plateumaris species regarded as valid three were described in English, the remaining seven in Latin, French, or German: P. amurensis Weise, 1898, P. bracata (Scopoli, 1772), P. consimilis (Schrank, 1781), P. roscida Weise, 1912, P. rustica (Kunze, 1818), P. sericea (Linnaeus, 1758), and P. weisei (Duvivier, 1885). These seven non-English original descriptions and their translations into English are presented here. This paper attempts to fill the knowledge gaps in biodiversity of non-biting moth flies in the Caucasus (especially in Abkhazia) and create a suitable basis for subsequent (not only) ecological studies. In total, records of 65 Psychodidae (Sycoracinae - one sp., Psychodinae 64 spp., altogether 33 genera) species/subspecies are presented based on specimens collected mainly in Abkhazia, with some additional data from Armenia, Georgia, and Russia (12 new records). The Psychodidae fauna of Abkhazia now comprises 57 species, 31 of which are newly listed here. The Caucasus region (including the territory of Abkhazia presented here) should be considered the most biologically rich and most endangered region in the world, with an exceptional richness of endemic and endangered species also from the point of view of psychodids biodiversity. Sixteen extremely rare species in this family (probably Caucasus or highland endemics) which need to be given increased attention, whether from the point of view of island ecology or biodiversity protection, have been herein confirmed.

The genus Centroptilum Eaton, 1869 is widely distributed in the West Palaearctic region, but poorly diversified as it previously only encompassed two valid species, C. luteolum (Müller, 1776) and C. pirinense Ikonomov, 1962. The discovery of a new congener, C. volodymyri Martynov, Godunko and Palatov, sp. nov., is therefore remarkable; the new species is described based on larvae collected in Georgia, Turkey and Iran in 2012–2019. This new species can be distinguished by the structure of the cuticle with flattened, stretched shallow, triangular and semilunar-shaped corrugations; scales and their bases densely scattered on body surface; features of the mouth parts, including the presence of an expanded laterally labrum, in combination with segment III of maxillary palp and superlinguae of hypopharynx rounded apically, without any pointed projections at the tip; numerous small teeth scattered proximally in two rows along inner margin of the pretarsal claw; the shape of denticulation along the posterior margin of the abdominal terga, and the number of prominent posterolateral spines on tergum VII; and the shape of gills II–VII, with a distinctly concave posterior margin. Together with a morphological description, data on the distribution and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene (COI) barcode sequences of the species are provided. The species delimitation of C. volodymyri Martynov, Godunko and Palatov, sp. nov. and C. luteolum is tested using COI barcode sequences. The data obtained show that the new species can be distinctly recognised as a separate lineage. The habitat preferences associated with the different parts of the area of C. volodymyri Martynov, Godunko and Palatov, sp. nov. are described and compared. Distribution of C. volodymyri Martynov, Godunko and Palatov, sp. nov. confirms the connections between Caucasian and Asian fauna of Ephemeroptera, as already demonstrated in various families and genera. Recent field trips to Crete, Samos, and Rhodos, as well as a revision of other material from various collections yielded numerous additional records, species, and taxonomic changes for the Staphylinidae faunas of Crete and the Aegean Islands. Fifteen species are described and illustrated for the first time, two of the Pselaphinae, two of the Oxytelinae, two of the Aleocharinae, one of the Leptotyphlinae, and eight of the Scydmaeninae: Paramaurops creticus Brachat spec. nov. (Crete: Psiloritis range); Afropselaphus chanianus Brachat spec. nov. (Crete); Euphanias ambulans Assing spec. nov. (Samos); Bledius (Hesperophilus) bedelianus Schülke spec. nov. (Samos, Rhodos, Karpathos, South Turkey, Lebanon, Israel); Hydrosmecta cultellata Assing spec. nov. (Samos); Atheta (Philhygra) tecta Assing spec. nov. Three new synonymies are proposed: Throbalium cycladicum (Koch, 1937) = T. biblicum (Koch, 1937), syn. nov., = T. adanense Koch, 1939, syn. nov., = Throbalium kosianum Bordoni, 2020, syn. nov. Two new combinations are proposed: Tychus kerkisicus (Brachat, 2017), comb. nov. (ex Paratychus Besuchet, 1960) and Liogluta aloconotoides (Benick, 1940), comb. nov. (ex Aloconota Thomson, 1858). Several previous misidentifications are rectified. Numerous species are reported from Crete and the Aegean Islands for the first time, some even from Greece and from Europe. New checklists of the Staphylinidae of Samos and Rhodos are provided. Including the additions and changes, the faunas of Crete, Samos, and Rhodos are now represented by 403 identified named species (114 of them endemic), 199 named species (15 endemic), and 160 named species (10 endemic), respectively.

A first attempt is made to revise the European species of the gall midge genus Planetella Westwood, 1840 (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), with a focus on the fauna of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Denmark. A total of 19 species are recognized based on unique DNA sequences, of which 13 are described as new to science: Planetella adami Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. aestivalis Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. antennata Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. atrobrunnea Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. attilai Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. csabai Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. davidi Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. galiciensis Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. hlisnikovskyi Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. muranica Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. riparia Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. submontana Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., and P. thermophila Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov. Four previously described species are recognized in the collected material: Planetella arenariae (Rübsaamen, 1899b), P. fasciata (Meigen, 1818) sp. restit., P. gallarum (Rübsaamen, 1899a), and P. granifex (Kieffer, 1898). For each of these species, DNA sequences are provided, as well as detailed illustrations of the male terminalia and male flagellomeres. Four additional species are represented only with larva, female or incomplete specimens. The phylogeny of European Planetella is tentatively reconstructed based on the combined analysis of three gene markers (28S, 16S, COI), but without providing any new infrageneric classification. The phylogenetic placement of the genus Planetella within the subfamily Cecidomyiinae is reconstructed based on four gene markers (18S, 28S, 16S, COI). The monophyly of Planetella is well supported, as well as its placement in the supertribe Cecidomyiidi. The genera Acodiplosis Kieffer, 1895 and Putoniella Kieffer, 1896 appear as the closest relatives of Planetella. The delimitation of the tribe Hormomyiini is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new seed bug species, Stigmatonotum macronotum sp. nov., collected from southern Chiba prefecture, central Honshu, Japan is described. It is the seventh species in the genus Stigmatonotum Lindberg, 1927. Stigmatonotum geniculatum (Motschulsky, 1863) is recorded from South Korea for the first time. New species of the genus Anthracula Fairmaire, 1897 from China are described as follows: Anthracula adolfi sp. nov. and Anthracula becvari sp. nov., both from Yunnan Province, Anthracula emeiica sp. nov. from Sichuan Province and Anthracula yanziica sp. nov. from Hubei Province. Meloe (Meloe) wrzecionkoi sp. nov. is described as new to science from the area of south-eastern Hungary, in the county of Békés, Gyula. The new species is compared to relevant species of the subgenus Meloe Linnaeus, 1758, especially with probably the most morphologically similar species M. (M.) bodemeyeri Ganglbauer, 1900. The Japanese members of Haliplidae were reviewed and 13 species in two genera are recognized. A new species, Haliplus morii sp. nov. is described from Honshu; it is similar to Haliplus japonicus Sharp, 1873, but belongs to a different subgenus. Haliplus diruptus J. Balfour-Browne, 1946, syn. nov. is treated as a junior synonym of Haliplus kotoshonis Kano & Kamiya, 1931. The records of Haliplus davidi Vondel, 1991 from Japan are regarded as misidentifications of H. kotoshonis. Haliplus basinotatus latiusculus Nakane, 1985, syn. nov. is treated as a junior synonym of H. basinotatus. Simple Summary: The pollen wasps are a fascinating group of insects that live similarly to solitary bees: females provision their brood cells with a mixture of pollen and nectar instead of insect prey. The relationships of these wasps with flowering plants are of special interest, since most species of the masarine wasps are specialized for particular groups of plants and/or flower types. Within the genus Celonites, trophic preferences are better known for the Afrotropical and the Mediterranean species, while they are nearly unknown for representatives from Central Asia. We studied two closely related species from the Altai Mountains: Celonites kozlovi and C. sibiricus. The first species is a generalist, which is not typical of the genus. Due to behavioral plasticity, it is able to use flowers of various plant species from at least five families (Asteraceae and Lamiaceae predominate) as pollen sources. The second species has specialized pollen-collecting structures that allow females to use flowers of Lamiaceae efficiently, while other plants are only occasionally visited. These adaptations are similar to those of some Mediterranean species of Celonites, but they evolved independently. The existence of two different foraging strategies by the closely related C. kozlovi and C. sibiricus leads to niche segregation and allows them to coexist in the same extreme habitats at the northernmost border of the range of the pollen wasps. Celonites kozlovi Kostylev, 1935, and C. sibiricus Gusenleitner, 2007, coexist in semi-deserts of the Altai Mountains. The trophic relationships of these pollen wasp species to flowers are largely unknown. We observed the flower visits and behaviors of wasps on flowers; pollen-collecting structures of females were studied using SEM; the taxonomic position of these two species was ascertained with the barcoding sequence of the mitochondrial COI-5P gene. Celonites kozlovi and C. sibiricus form a clade together with C. hellenicus Gusenleitner, 1997, and C. iranus Gusenleitner, 2018, within the subgenus Eucelonites Richards, 1962. Celonites kozlovi is polylectic in the narrow sense, collecting pollen from flowers of plants belonging to five families (with the predomination of Asteraceae and Lamiaceae) using diverse methods for both pollen and nectar uptake. In addition, this species is a secondary nectar robber, which has not been observed in pollen wasps before. The generalistic foraging strategy of C. kozlovi is correlated with an unspecialized pollen-collecting apparatus on the fore-tarsi. In contrast, C. sibiricus is broadly oligolectic, predominantly collecting pollen from flowers of Lamiaceae. Its specialized foraging strategy is associated with apomorphic behavioral and morphological traits, particularly specialized pollen-collecting setae on the frons, which enable indirect pollen uptake using nototribic anthers. These adaptations in C. sibiricus evolved independently of similar specializations in the Celonites abbreviatus-complex. Celonites kozlovi is re-described, and males are described for the first time. The oribatid mite genus ParapyroppiaPérez-Íñigo & Subías, 1979 (Ceratoppiidae) is reported in China for the first time. During investigation of soil biodiversity in northeast China in 2021, a new species, Parapyroppia changbaiensissp. nov., was found from soil and litter of north slope of Changbai Mountain in Erdaobaihe Town, Jilin Province. The main purpose of study is to describe and illustrate this new species. In addition, an updated generic diagnosis, a checklist and a key to world species of Parapyroppia are presented. An updated checklist of Iranian Syrphidae (Diptera: Syrphoidea) is presented based on literature records with the latest taxonomic and nomenclatural changes. A total of 269 valid species in 70 genera among four subfamilies have been known from Iran, which is approximately 4.27 percent of the world's total known Syrphidae. Among these, 145 species and 31 genera were added to the previous list. Of the 70 genera Eumerus Meigen (35 species, 13.01%) and Merodon Meigen (26 species, 9.67%), are the most specious, whereas 30 genera are represented in Iran by only one recorded species. Two nests of Hoplitis curvipes are described from Apulia (Italy) and Dagestan (Russia). Both nests consisted of two brood cells placed side by side under a stone. The cells were neither attached to each other nor to the substrate. They were constructed from leaf fragments, which were imbricately arranged, forming a cone-like structure; each leaf fragment consisted of a basal part that was masticated to leaf pulp and an apical part that protruded freely from the cell wall. The cell wall was formed by the fusion of the masticated basal parts of the leaf fragments and thus entirely consisted of leaf pulp. The cell was sealed with a closing plug made of pure leaf pulp; a few leaf fragments were glued to its outer surface. The cocoon consisted of two layers: the outer layer was restricted to the anterior portion of the cell and had several longitudinal air-exchange slits on its lateral surface, while the inner layer had an air-exchange orifice in its most anterior dome-shaped top. Hoplitis astragali sp. nov., a member of the H. monstrabilis species group, and H. dagestanica sp. nov., a member of the H. adunca species group, are described. The former species is known from Dagestan in Russia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan, the latter only from Dagestan. Nests of H. astragali are described. Females of this species excavated burrows in a vertical clay cliff, but sometimes chose a horizontal surface for nest excavation, particularly at the entrance of old burrows of Xylocopa olivieri (Apidae). The nest burrows of H. astragali were either sub-vertical or sub-horizontal. The nests were composed of one to three brood cells, an empty vestibule in front of the outermost cell, and a closing plug at the nest entrance made of moistened mud. The inner surface of the cells was covered with a thin wall composed of compact soil, most probably built by the female bee after cell excavation. The pollen loaf was very liquid and had a spherical shape. The egg was deposited on its top. The cocoon consisted of a single thin layer, which uniformly covered the whole inner surface of the cell. There was one generation per year. The prepupae hibernated. Sapyga caucasica (Sapygidae) was recorded in the nests as a kleptoparasite. The heterophyid trematode Metagonimus romanicus (Ciurea, 1915) (Digenea) is redescribed on the basis of type material from domestic dogs (Canis familiaris) in Romania, vouchers from experimentally infected cats (Felis catus) and adults recovered from golden hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus) infected with metacercariae from scales of chub (Squalius cephalus) and common nase (Chondrostoma nasus) (Cypriniformes: Leuciscidae) in Hungary. This trematode, endemic to Europe and neighbouring regions (northwestern Türkiye), was previously misidentified as M. yokogawai (Katsurada, 1912), a zoonotic parasite of humans in East Asia. However, the two species differ considerably both genetically and morphologically, e.g., in the position of the ventral sucker, the presence of the prepharynx, the anterior extent of the vitelline follicles and the posterior extent of the uterus. Metagonimus ciureanus (Witenberg, 1929) (syn. Dexiogonimus ciureanus Witenberg, 1929), described from domestic cats and dogs in Israel, is a valid species distributed in the Middle East and Transcaucasia, which is also confirmed by molecular data. It differs from all Metagonimus species, including M. romanicus, in having symmetrical testes instead of the oblique testes of the other congeners. The zoonotic significance of M. romanicus and M. ciureanus is unclear, but appears to be low in Europe, mainly because raw or undercooked, whole fish with scales are generally not consumed. Accidental infection of fishermen by metacercariae in the scales when cleaning fish is more likely, but has never been reported. Remains of cyprinoids with scales infected with metacercariae of Metagonimus spp. can be an important natural source of infection for dogs, cats, and other carnivores, which can serve as a reservoir for these parasites.

The damsel bug genus Rhamphocoris Kirkaldy, 1901 (Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Nabidae, Prostemmatinae, Phorticini) is widely distributed in the Australian, Palaearctic, and Oriental regions; however, no species has been recorded from Japan. To date, R. hasegawai (Ishihara, 1943) has been reported in China, Korea, and Taiwan. In the present study, Rhamphocoris and R. hasegawai are recorded from Japan for the first time, representing the easternmost record of the species.
