Orthodontics is a very important step in the treatment of dentofacial deformities. Even with the increase in the applicability of the surgery first approach, it is still necessary to use the conventional approach in many cases. In turn, orthodontic treatment has also undergone leaps of development in recent decades, and today it is a clinical reality able to offer the patient a choice between the use of fixed braces and clear aligners. Even been a restricted option to cases of mild to moderate deformities, it's possible to associate it with ortho surgical treatment. Therefore, it becomes a challenge for the orthodontist, oral and maxillofacial surgeon and craniomaxillofacial to know how to deal with the changes that clear aligners bring from pre to post surgery. Based on this, a literature review was carried out in the online databases PubMed, Cochrane Library and Virtual Health Library (VHL), using the descriptors "Dentofacial Deformities", "Orthognathic Surgery", "Orthodontic", "Clear aligner". Cleft lip and palate (CLPs) are prevalent congenital deformities. Functional, aesthetic, and social rehabilitation should begin after birth and continue until complete skeletal development, with the participation of the dental surgeon. The treatment aims at repairing changes in craniofacial growth, facilitating their feeding in the first days of life and correcting malocclusions. The present study reports the clinical characteristics of FLPs, highlighting the importance of early intervention by the dentist to improve the quality of life of those patients. This is a literature review, in which research were carried out in the Scielo, PubMed and Google Scholar databases, using the descriptors "cleft lip", "cleft palate", "surgery", "orthodontics". In the first research, 96 articles were found. The inclusion criteria were applied, articles in English, Portuguese, and articles between 2000 and 2022, which led to 20 articles. CLPs affect tooth development, leading to changes in speech, orofacial structures, and oral functions. It was concluded that the dental surgeon should intervene from birth, seeking a better quality of life even in the lactating phase. Objetivos: A osteotomia de Le Fort I pode induzir alterações estruturais ou anatómicas nas vias aéreas superiores, particularmente ao nível dos seios maxilares. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar o volume dos seios maxilares antes e após a osteotomia de Le Fort I de avanço. Metódos: Neste estudo retrospetivo foram incluídos 19 doentes submetidos a tratamento ortodôntico-cirúrgico com osteotomia de Le Fort I de avanço. As tomografias computorizadas de feixe cónico, pré-operatória (T0) e pós-operatória (T1), foram analisadas com recurso ao software ITK-SNAP a fim de avaliar o volume dos seios maxilares. RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi relatar a abordagem interdisciplinar no manejo da macroglossia em um caso de paciente com síndrome de Beckwith-Wiedemann, no período de dez anos. O acompanhamento iniciou pela equipe de Cirurgia Bucomaxilofacial, seguido da Fonoaudiologia, em função de dificuldades alimentares. Após avaliação clínica e instrumental, aos 8 meses de idade, iniciou-se a intervenção fonoaudiológica com foco na disfagia orofaríngea e na terapia miofuncional orofacial. Foi verificado, com 1 ano e 11 meses, ausência de sinais de alteração de deglutição em fase faríngea e melhora na postura de lábios e língua. Aos 3 anos, foram iniciados estímulos para retirada dos hábitos orais e o treino da função mastigatória. O tratamento ortodôntico para correção de mordida aberta anterior e mordida cruzada posterior unilateral iniciou-se aos 6 anos. Aos 7 anos e 5 meses de idade, constatou-se estabilidade do modo respiratório nasal e adequação da postura de repouso de lábios e língua. Aos 9 anos, em função de recidiva das alterações oclusais, optou-se pela redução cirúrgica da língua seguida de terapia miofuncional orofacial, retomada aos 9 anos e 3 meses. O resultado foi a correção da postura da língua na deglutição e a adequação da fala. A associação dos tratamentos, envolvendo Fonoaudiologia, Ortodontia e Cirurgia Bucomaxilofacial foi considerada efetiva no manejo da macroglossia, resultando na adequação e equilíbrio das funções orofaciais.

The objective of the present study was to carry out an integrative literature review, which listed the use of maxillary expanders, evidencing the benefits through the reverse traction technique in patients diagnosed with class III associated with maxillary atresia. This is an integrative literature review. Case reports published between 2017 and 2022, studies published in English and Portuguese were included. Exclusion criteria were applied to simple literature reviews, books, book chapters, letters to the author, abstracts of annals and opinion articles. It is possible to conclude that the use of palatal expanders in association with the reverse traction mechanism is indeed effective for the treatment of Angle class III malocclusion. The literature emphasizes the need to perform early interventions in mixed and deciduous dentures, given that this conduct is preventive against the possibility of future orthognathic surgeries. Background: A wide range of functional devices allow stimulating mandibular growth in class II patients, through mandibular advancement; managing to correct this type of skeletal and occlusal disharmony. Fixed repositioning appliances apply constant forces to the TMJ and may cause remodeling of the articular condyle and glenoid fossa. Computed tomography (CT) has been the gold standard for imaging the bone and hard tissues of the TMJ, but today cone beam computed tomography (HCCT) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (MRI) are used, because of their low and zero levels, respectively, of radiation. Objective: to measure morphological changes through TMJ imaging evaluation after correction of class II malocclusion with functional treatment with appliances in growing patients Methods: a comprehensive systematic literature search was conducted from January 2015 to May 2023 in the following bibliographic databases PubMed, EBSCO, Embase, and the Cochrane Library. Results: 10 studies were selected. The total sample size was 210 patients, and the age range was 10.3 to 14 years. The main imaging method used was HCCT with n = 9. Conclusions: The main change described is condylar remodeling, followed by morphological adaptation of the fossa. Although no significant differences have been reported in morphological changes in the TMJ between fixed versus removable functional appliances, fixed appliances cause a higher incidence of morphological changes. This prospective study aimed at assessing dentoalveolar changes in digital models in patients with anterior open-bite, treated with two protocols: lingual spurs and chincup. The sample consisted of 41 patients (27 girls and 14 boys) aged 7-10 years (mean age 8.37 years) during mixed dentition with anterior open-bite (mean -3.43mm), who were treated for one year. The patients were randomly divided according to the therapy applied: Group 1 (n=23) treated with lingual spurs, and group 2 (n=18) treated with prefabricated chincup. The plaster models were scanned, reproducing a three-dimensional scanned image, on which measurements were taken, at T1 (immediately before treatment) and T2 (one year after the begining of treatment). Transverse changes, length and perimeter of the upper and lower dental arches, overjet and overbite, as well as inclination of central incisors were assessed. Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman method were applied to verify the intra-examiner error. The results were analyzed through paired and independent t tests at 5% significance. After one year of treatment, all the variables were statistically changed, except for perimeter and length of upper and lower arches, upper central incisor proclination, and overjet.
