This study aimed to analyze the oppression of women in the play La casa de Bernarda Alba (1936) written by the Spanish playwright Federico García Lorca and in the short story “El Cometa Halley” (1986) written by the Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas. Regarding that in the short story, “El Cometa Halley”, Arenas suggests a new end to the play written by García Lorca, this work aimed to understand to what extent some mechanisms of repression and oppression are repeated in both literary works. To do so, it was carried out an analysis of each work and a comparative analysis as well. It was verified that in both works the oppressed repeated with other people the oppression they suffered generating a certain vicious cycle of oppression. Besides, in the play by García Lorca as well as in the short story by Arenas, Adela is a character that stands out for her dissonant voice: in the play, she claims the autonomy over her body and desires and in the short story, she is the voice raised to remember and denounce the injustices lived under maternal subjugation.

The main objective of this research is mapping and exploring how the oppression and resistance of the main character (Kekayi) in Oka Rusmini’s short story Pohon Api are manifested through the strategic use of her own intellectuality, not only her beauty; her focus on future visions; and her attempt to garner support from the higher authority to win the competition. This research applied the qualitative approach with content analysis method. This research reveals that Kekayi, the main character in Oka Rusmini’s short story "Pohon Api", is an individual who is at an "intersection". She faces a series of oppression, discrimination, harassment, and unpleasant events which comes from all directions of the "intersection". Then, when a bad treatment is given, it will form a particular pattern that becomes habitual and eventually becomes an ideology. Furthermore, Kekayi possesses the capital to become a strong woman. That power is something given by the Almighty. However, she is also a female learner who always wants to be equal with men.

- Abstract
This project aims to find guiding principles for a knowledge production around fetishism. This has been conducted through discourse analysis and genealogical studies of the construction of fetishism in central contexts. The analysis indicates that fetishism is marginalised in a weave of power relations, where external interests have incitaments to vilify, sexualise and otherise fetishistic sexuality. This is understood to potentially cause various problems when it comes to knowledge production around fetishism. In order to minimise these problems, eight guiding principles are suggested: A knowledge production based in the subject; awareness of lingering pathological notions and stereotypes; usage of non-othering terminology; awareness of the sex/gender orientation norm; awareness of politicised definitions; awareness of subcultural identity politics; an understanding of the abject's ability to speak; and usage of intra-sectional analysis.

In Martha Rosler’s video, If It’s Too Bad to Be True It Could Be DISINFORMATION (1985), intermittent bouts of static render television coverage of this developing news story nearly indecipherable. Produced in early 1985 as an urgent response to these events, Rosler’s video depicts a broadcast signal under duress. It stages the destabilisation of a media apparatus implicated in an ongoing war of information. That same year, Rosler also published a now widely read essay entitled “Video: Shedding the Utopian Moment”, in which she complained that “museumization” had contained and minimised “the social negativity that was the matrix for the early uses of video”, erasing the critical significance of artists’ engagements with broadcast television, a tactical approach vital to her own political art practice (72).

The relationship between the State and the religious cults in Romania during the communist regime is a new subject among the preoccupations of the historians and it is still a controversial subject from the perspective of the complex realities that have determined the coordinates of this relationship. The problemis insufficiently investigated, but with the opening access to the documents in the archives of C.N.S.A.S., the study of the files reveals new problematic aspects of the matter. The state control over the activity of the cults and over the religious behavior was based on a new legislation, with the help of the cult inspectors, employees of the Ministry of Cults, in charge with the surveillance of every cult administrative unit, from parish to Patriarchy. In addition to that, there was an unofficial control exercised through a web of informers and collaborators of the institution named Securitate, founded by Decree no. 221/ August, 30, 1948. After the 6th of March 1945, beginning with the first months after its installation, the new govern led by Petru Groza, ordered numerous arrests among the clergy of all confessions. Although many of them were released the same year, some remained suspects and some of them, probably under the constant threat, accepted later the collaboration with the Securitate. The political views of the suspects before August, 23, 1944 were the main reason, but also a pretext for the repression against some outstanding representatives of the cults. Using as research method the analysis of documents in the files of C.N.S.A.S. archives, this study reveals the means of repression of the communist authorities against the cults, the state's approach of the spiritual and religious life as a constant threat to the regime, and the mechanisms through which some personalities as Mina Dobzeu, Iuliu Hîrţea, Dumitru Bejan and Mihaly Godo were surveilled, condemned and prosecuted, and others, such as Gheorghe Moisescu collaborated with the Securitate. Socialno delo deluje znotraj sistema nadzora nad migracijami in s tem direktno podpira represivno prakso in zatiranje. Kriminalizacija solidarnosti direktno nasprotuje socialnemu delu. In graduation thesis I explore the system of migration control, ways through which the criminalization of migration is implemented, criminalization of solidarity and the role of social work in migration field through study of literature. Migration control cannot be fair, because they are racist and based on exclusion. They are implemented with restrictive legislation that limits movement of some, while at the same time enables it to others through visa systems. In graduation thesis I problematize access to international protection, which in practice works as illusion that introduces human rights discourse in the controls of migration. This discourse is also present in imprisonment and deportation of people, where it is focused on living conditions of people who are imprisoned and not on imprisonment itself, that causes suffering and violations of human rights. I explore the use of systematic violence in the name of migration controls, which is connected to the question of security and legitimized through it. I present the view of autonomy of migration that sees irregular movement as a political act, through which people on the way take active role in their fight for rights that are taken from them and develop strategies and technics that are based on common knowledge and support. Social work works inside the system of migration control and with that directly supports oppressive practices and suppression. It is crucial that it takes responsibility for its role and works in accordance with its own theory, principles and code of ethics. It needs to resist against the role attributed by the state and stand together with people in common struggle. Acts of solidarity with people on the way are criminalized and prosecuted through Europe, which works as intimidation and threat. Criminalization of solidarity directly opposes the social work.

Treball Final de Màster Universitari en Investigació Aplicada en Estudis Feministes, de Gènere i Ciutadania. Codi: SBQ023. The feminist theory contributes a more complete vision to reality and giving voice to women is essential. Voices that in the past of years and as the story has been made, they have not had place. We find an incomplete story. The Social Reproduction Theory puts at the center of our lives the care and welfare tasks. This tasks are essentials for own lives and women are heroines. Just now this theory has not had the necessary attention such importance. Commonly this tasks are responsability to women and cause of oppression and inequality.

- Abstract
An online survey was conducted at Lund’s university during the spring of 2018. The essay tests the hypothesis that the context where these students grew up, with the Swedish sex purchase legislation, constitutes a stronger influence than the trend of a more liberal attitude towards the sale of sexual services. The theoretical framework used in the essay is Ronald Weitzer's theory about the three competing paradigms: the empowerment paradigm, the oppressive paradigm and the polymorphous paradigm. The results of the study was compared to previous surveys on the subject and have shown that the attitudes of the students are not in line with the attitudes of the population. The results show that the attitudes vary depending on which faculty the students’ are studying at. By examining the results based on Weitzer's theory, an understanding of the difficulty of categorizing people is deepened and the complexity of the subject has been confirmed. The barrier that emerged from the framing of students’ attitudes in only one of the perspectives has shown that the paradigms may not compete with each other, but in many ways complement each other. The hypothesis has been both confirmed and demented since the results vary depending on which part of the survey that is taken into account. The results from the survey’s fixed answers confirmed the hypothesis, but upon a closer analysis of the open questions and the word association in the survey, the hypothesis was demented.

Moved by mounting concerns about ongoing forms of multiple oppression (including racialized violence, economic injustice, unsustainable over-development, and ecological damage), we proposed a special thematic section and issued a call for papers devoted to the topic of "decolonizing psychological science". In this introduction to the special section, we first discuss two perspectives—liberation psychology and cultural psychology—that have informed our approach to the topic. We then discuss manifestations of coloniality in psychological science and describe three approaches to decolonization—indigenization, accompaniment, and denaturalization—that emerge from contributions to the special section. We conclude with an invitation to readers to submit their own original contributions to an ongoing effort to create an online collection of digitally linked articles on the topic of decolonizing psychological science. - Abstract
Oppression makes certain social identities morally significant. I argue in my dissertation that this relevance manifests in disparate ways and that we should develop a theory about three ontologically distinct aspects of a social identity in order to explain these differences. The way institutions define people in terms of race, gender, or religion matters because that classification plays a role in how individuals can or cannot participate in society. But oppression is not only a series of structural barriers: it also fosters demeaning stereotypes that distort the way we self-identify or how we form beliefs about others. Oppression can warp interpersonal relationships as well because it enables others to impose an oppressive social identity on to us. This interpersonal aspect of oppression depends on specific interactions because we can present distinct “public identities” across different social circles: someone can come out as LGBT at home, but not at work; to friends, but not family. I use each of these aspects of a social identity to illuminate cases where oppression creates similar experiences of subordination among group members that non-members do not experience. These shared experiences can constitute a special, if undesirable, relationship among the oppressed that generates a special obligation for the oppressed to resist their own oppression.

This article begins by introducing Gerald Cohen’s arguments, in which he reduces as much as possible the role of coercion that proletarians experience due to the circumstances of remunerated work, and, consequently, he denies the oppressive nature of capitalist exploitation. Secondly, this paper examines some criticism that questions such arguments or the truth of their foundations, as well as the author’s replies. Finally, it claims that Cohen does not manage to make his main thesis convincing, due to the fact that he does not take into consideration some relevant distinctions regarding the concept of freedom, fragmentarily put forward by Marx and consistently developed by Sen., Departamento de Filosofía

The main thesis of this paper is that Freire’s original experience in Angicos anticipated a grand design for social transformation of educational systems. As such it brought together two key concepts that formulated the basis of his educational system: popular culture as an counter-hegemonic project and popular education, more particularly what was later called citizen schools or public popular education as keystone of his new educational system. I use the term Paulo Freire System to show that his original attempts were not only to challenge pedagogical the prevailing banking education system that was so pervasive in Brazil and Latin American at the time. In challenging the hegemony of banking education, its narrative, theoretical foundations, epistemology and methodology, Freire and his team sought to create a new system that could replace the old one. They saw banking education not only as obsolete in terms of modernization of systems but also oppressive in gnoseological, epistemological and political terms. In the conclusion of this paper I will discuss the twins obsessions of Freire, already present in the Angicos experience and that will stay with him throughout his life: the relationship between democracy, citizenship and education, and education as a postcolonial ethical act of social transformation. I would like to emphasize therefore that the Paulo Freire system, as conceived in the Angicos experience and its aftermath was a much larger and comprehensive system that originally considered, even by his critics.

- Abstract
ABSTRACT This dissertation problematizes hope from Paulo Freire’s political realistic perspective. It delivers the basic principles of what I have named the Elpidology of the Oppressed. Domination, oppression and power asymmetry are concrete realities. They all play a role in shaping our sense of hope. In my opinion, hope is perhaps one of the most suitable human attitudes to be either controlled or obliterated by political regimes seeking domination. An oppressive regime seeks to domesticate hope through a system of organized hopelessness; a scheme that negates a group of people the opportunity of desiring, imagining and seeking a feasible path towards a future or a futurity different from the oppressive circumstances they experience in the here and now. Problematizing hope is about grasping temporality and futurity as realities that humans create and re-create collectively and not as things that are pre-determined. Thus, I aim at demonstrating how crucial is for all people, but especially for the oppressed, to understand, to apprehend, to take care and to cultivate the human sense of hope from a political realistic point of view, a key perspective given that some people are excluded from history, and, therefore, also excluded from freely creating their own futures. Nonetheless, in exploring these matters, I inevitably collide with a longstanding polemic regarding the nature and value of hope. While some may argue that hope is illusory and dangerous, others see it as a strong and positive asset in human life. I elucidate this issue by putting this notion through a deep process of demystification, which includes acknowledging its illusory nature, while working a theoretical stance that reconstructs its value as a crucial, but paradoxical political asset. Hope is a multidimensional human faculty that tends to create illusions. It is a complex force associated to what I term the human elpidic mind—our persistent, inescapable and anxious preoccupation with the future. It is a sort of an illusion characterized by a confident, yet uncertain expectation of achieving a good future that is meaningful and thought to be realistically possible by the thinking individual. Now, from the standpoint of oppressed people, whose concrete resources of hope are limited, and whose sense of hope is distorted through fear, among other mechanisms, hoping realistically becomes a practice of political resistance against oppression. Realistic hope is about desiring futurity and also about concretely planning for, and actually trying to attain this future by finding actual pathways toward its consecution, despite possible obstacles. Hoping has a collective dimension that turns politically subversive as soon as people gather together and organizes in order to imagine, plan and strategize about how realistically bring actual social change in the future. Yet, the oppressed realistic practice of hope is meant to clash face on with the hope and visions of the future of their oppressors. The power élite’s political project includes freezing time and stopping history from happening as part of their ambition to own and secure perpetually the future for its social class. The politics of resistance as hope is a praxis of freedom within conditions of oppression that seeks emancipation through the creation of concrete conditions that allow oppressed people to become true agents of history and genuine agents of hope.
