This study explores a sustainable approach to concrete production using recycled aggregates, fly ash and nylon fibre. Demolition waste served as coarse aggregate, fly ash replaced part of the cement, and nylon fibre reinforced the mix. Fourteen concrete batches were tested with varying fly ash (two and a half percent, five percent, seven and a half percent and ten percent) and nylon fibre (0.1 percent, 0.15 percent and 0.2 percent) contents. A standard 1:2:4 mix with a 0.55 water-cement ratio was used. The optimal mix, with two-and-a-half percent fly ash and 0.2 percent nylon fibre, showed improved compressive strength (4.4 percent and 15.6 percent) and tensile strength (twentyfour percent and thirty-four-and-a-half percent) compared to conventional and recycled aggregate concrete. Higher fly ash content reduced strength, and the absence of nylon fibre decreased tensile strength, emphasising the importance of reinforcement. In the present study, the shear characteristics of cementitious mortar reinforced with steel and nylon fibres were experimentally investigated through direct shear tests. The primary test parameters of the present study were fibre volume fractions of 0.15, 0.25, and 0.33% for nylon fibres; 0.5, 0.75, and 1.0% for steel fibre; and hybrid fibres comprised of different amounts of steel and nylon fibres. The test specimens were made with a singly rectangular notch at the centre to predefine the shear failure plane. Direct shear test was carried out following the guidelines specified in the Fédération Internationale de la Précontrainte (FIP) standard. The results showed that the cementitious mortar reinforced with fibres exhibited more ductility than plain mortar matrix. It was determined that the use of higher amounts of steel and nylon fibres could significantly improve the peak shear stress. Finally, a shear stress-crack slip model was constructed to idealise shear stress-crack slip curves of cementitious mortar reinforced with steel and nylon fibres, and the prediction results were consistent with the experimental results. A new fused heterocyclic compound, 11-amino-13H-acenaphtho[1,2-e]pyridazino [3,2-b]quinazolin-13-one was synthesized and used to prepare a novel series of heterocyclic mono azo dyes by coupling with various naphthols. All the mono azo dyes were characterized by their melting point, elemental analysis,UV-visible spectrum, infrared spectrum and dyeing performance on nylon and polyester fibres. The percentage dye bath exhaustion on different fibres was found to be reasonably good and acceptable. The dyed fibres show fair to good fastness to light and very good to excellent fastness to washing, rubbing, perspiration and sublimation.

6. Limited effect of diameter of fibres on spalling protection of concrete in fire.

- Abstract
This study investigates the effect of diameter, length and melting point of fibres on spalling protection of concrete in fire. Three different diameters (0.012, 0.02 and 0.04 mm), three different lengths (9, 12 and 19 mm) and two different types (nylon and polypropylene) of fibres were investigated. Fibre volume (v%) or fibre weight per unit volume of concrete are commonly used parameters for fibre addition, but are dependent parameters on diameter of fibres. This study reports a better parameter for the expression of fibre addition which is independent of diameter, namely, number of fibres per cubic centimeter (N). When 12 mm length polypropylene fibre addition is expressed by v%, the minimum requirement for spalling protection is v = 0.20% for 0.04 mm diameter fibres and v = 0.05% for 0.02 mm diameter fibres. If the fibre addition is expressed in N, the minimum requirement is N = 133/cm for both cases regardless of fibre diameter. Hence, the diameter of fibres has limited effect on spalling protection of concrete. If the fibre addition is expressed in v%, the diameter seems to have an effect due to the fact that parameter v% is a function of diameter. In addition, increasing the length of fibres has the effect of reducing the required N for spalling protection. When fibre length is increased from 12 to 19 mm, the minimum requirement is reduced from N = 133 to 42/cm. The melting point of the fibres also has an influence on spalling protection, which is discussed in detail by comparing nylon and polypropylene fibre results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Na Ústav fyziky materiálů, AVČR v.v.i. byl zakoupen zkušební stroj MTS Tytron 250 s originální konstrukcí. Cílem této diplomové práce bylo seznámit se s jeho ovládáním a zjistit jeho výhody i limity. Byly provedeny tahové zkoušky na Al vláknech o průměrech 125 mikrometrů, 180 mikrometrů a 500 mikrometrů na nylonových vláknech o průměrech 250 mikrometrů a 500 mikrometrů a tahové a únavové zkoušky na Al fóliích o tloušťce 77 mikrometrů. Bylo zjištěno, že stroj je vhodný pro testování zejména jednak subtilních vzorků s velmi malými zátěžnými silami a jednak vzorků s malou tuhostí, jako jsou polymery anebo velmi dlouhá kovová či keramická vlákna. Naopak, stroj Tytron není schopen deformovat vzorky s vysokou tuhostí a s vyššími zátěžnými silami. Materiálové charakteristiky studovaných vzorků byly změřeny s vysokou reprodukovatelností.
