The World Health Organization defines Health Literacy as a person's ability to obtain and understand basic health information and to use available health services responsibly. The present study aimed to assess the level of health literacy of patients attending a nursing consultation at a health centre in northern Portugal. It was an observational, cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational study with a quantitative approach. One hundred subjects enrolled in the nursing consultation participated in the study, and data was collected using the health literacy questionnaire HLS-EU-PT. The majority of participants (63%) were female, aged between 18 and 94; most (34%) were 65 years and older, and 35% had completed their elementary school. As for health literacy, 32% of participants had an inadequate level, 56% a problematic level and 12% a sufficient level. The low levels of health literacy of the users of a nursing consultation who participated in the study indicate the need to implement intervention projects to empower participants and their families in health literacy and self-care. Background and Objective: We are witnessing a marked increase in demand for outpatient services. Patients experience health-related anxiety, which exerts destructive effects on the treatment. The control and management of this anxiety create confidence in health services. The present study aimed to determine the effect of nursing counseling on health anxiety and its relationship with trust in nursing services in the outpatient department. Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study conducted in 2021, 60 participants were randomly selected from the outpatient department of a clinic and assigned to two groups: intervention and control. Data collection tools were a demographic information questionnaire, Alkovskis and Warwick Health Anxiety, and Trust in Nurses Scale (TNS) (Radwin and Cabral, 2010). The participants answered demographic and health anxiety questionnaires. After the visit, the intervention group received nursing counseling, while the control group only received routine training. One week later, the participants answered the health anxiety questionnaire and trust in nurses scale again. Data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 18) using descriptive and inferential statistical tests. Results: The mean of health anxiety before the consulting was not significantly different between the two groups (P=0.20); nonetheless, after the consulting, the intervention group obtained a lower mean score compared to the control group (P>0.001). There was a significant difference between this mean before and after consulting in the intervention group (P>0.001). There was a significant positive relationship between receiving nursing counseling and confidence in nursing services (P>0.001) (C.V=-0.145). Conclusion: As evidenced by the results of this study, the provision of nursing consultation reduces patients' health anxiety and increases confidence in nursing services. It is suggested to pay attention to this role of nurses in outpatient departments.

Introduction: A specialist nurse in the elderly is fundamental in the systematic monitoring of the health of the elderly population (EP). The development of a structured Nursing Consultation (NC) for the elderly that allows a multidimensional assessment to identify the main Geriatric Syndromes (GS) is essential, therefore the Health Care Center X (USFX) integrated in the Nursing Centers project "Age-Friendly Education and Health Institutions", in partnership with ESEL, developed a project with the objective of implementing a NC guide for the multidimensional evaluation of EP in a summarized way, based on what is recommended by the WHO to identify the real problems/needs of the EP, to prevent GS and to promote active and healthy aging. Methods: Research-actiontraining in five phases: diagnosis of the situation, planning, implementation, evaluation, and disclosure of results. Data collection instruments: consultation guide to structure nursing interventions. To create it, interviews were carried out with the nurses and content analysis made, in addition to information sharing actions and discussion based on the literature. In the implementation of the NC, the participants were aged 65 or over, enrolled for consultation at the USFX, without cognitive impairment or communication deficit, after informed consent. 48 face-to-face NC specialist were carried out. This project obtained the positive opinion of the Ethics Commission n° 157/CES/INV/2019. Results: The guide used at the NC specialized in elderly was developed based on a theoretical model of nursing to promote of Care-of-the-Self (Gomes, 2021) and recommended by the WHO (2008). Through the use of the script in the NC it was possible to identify that 8% of the older people had memory deficit; 25% risk of falling; 10% had a decrease in functional capacity; 23% depression; 19% frailty syndrome; 6% urinary incontinence; 4% anorexia and 27% of older people evaluated had more than one associated GS. Conclusion: The research-action-training methodology contributed to promote reflection on the importance of carrying out the systematized NC and for the construction of a script that directs the nurse's intervention, supported by a Model, which becomes an effective strategy in the early identification and assessment of the main GS in a short time and encourages the promotion of Care-of-the-Self. Abstract Background Nurses play a crucial role in the multidisciplinary team in the rehabilitation of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. However, little is known about patients' and health care professionals’ (HCP) experiences (physicians, therapists) with nurses in rehabilitation. The aim of this qualitative study is (i) to describe the rehabilitation nursing care from the perspective of MS patients and HCPs and their view of a nursing consultations (ii) to elaborate similarities and differences of patients’ and HCP’s views. Methods We used a qualitative approach and selected the participants purposively. We conducted semi-structured individual MS patient (n = 15) and two focus groups interviews with HCPs (n = 8) in an inpatient rehabilitation clinic in Switzerland. We analysed the data using a structuring content analysis approach. First, we analysed patients’ and HCPs’ perspectives separately. Afterwards we elaborated similarities and differences descriptively. Results Main categories of patients’ perspectives were “need for nursing care” and “relationship between nurses and MS patient”. MS patients have mentioned the following points according to a nursing consultation: (i) nurses as advocates, (ii) involvement of relatives (iii) peer groups (iv) contact person. “Nurses in their scope of practice”, “nurses as a part of the multidisciplinary team” and “the specifications in the treatment of MS patients” were main categories of HCPs’ perspective. MS patients and HCPs demonstrated similarly the importance to have a nurse as a contact person in the multidisciplinary team and the need to integrate a nurse-led peer group in a nursing consultation. While HCPs prefer that relative always be included in nursing consultations, patients provided reasons when inclusion was not desirable. Conclusion The results indicate that continuity in the nursing care for MS patients could contribute to a trusting nurse-patient relationship. This facilitates nurses to create a deeper understanding of MS patients and their needs in daily rehabilitation. The need for MS patients to share their concerns and receive scientifically proven knowledge from peers could addressed with a nurse-led peer group.

Introduction: Stroke is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, resulting in a variety of deficits, motor and cognitive-behavioral, as well as emotional. Thus, rehabilitation nursing has great importance in helping the patient regain lost capacities and become independent again, including family in this process. However, the work of the rehabilitation nurse should not be restricted to the acute phase and should be extended over time, especially after returning home, when problems related to a higher degree of dependence arise. Objective: Analyze deviations from the plan defined at discharge by the rehabilitation nurse. Method: An exploratory, descriptive, retrospective and quantitative study involving 339 patients. Results: Patients have a mean age of 71 years, are predominantly male, and the predominant vascular event was ischemic stroke. The majority of patients presented functional and motor improvement after discharge. Several problems were identified in the consultation and corrective measures were taken to prevent them from worsening and to promote future corrections. Statistically significant relationships were established between the degree of dependence and the institutionalization of the patients, as well as between the cognitive alterations and the degree of dependence. Conclusion: The results made it clear that even after discharge, patients with stroke need support, support, guidance, teaching and training to improve outcomes and prevent complications. Hence, the work of the rehabilitation nurse should extend beyond the discharge of the patient with stroke, with a view to the future with greater security.

Abstract Objectives: to identify the main complaints and problems presented by women in the puerperium during nursing consultations and create a care flow chart. Methods: descriptive, cross-sectional exploratory study with quantitative treatment of data conducted in a private hospital in Brazil, with a sample of 114 women. Results: of the puerperal women evaluated, 57.9% were primiparous and 66.7% reported not having received guidance about the puerperal period. Cesarean sections occurred in 89.5% of the sample, and 80.7% of the women presented difficulties inherent to the care given to the newborn or self-care. All mothers were breastfeeding and 42.1% of them reported difficulties in this process. Among breast complications, 30.7% corresponded to fissures. In view of the needs observed in the nursing consultation, women received guidelines from the nurses, and were referred for specialized evaluation when pertinent. Conclusions: it was observed that problems and complaints presented by women in the puerperium were related with care to the newborn, breastfeeding, emotional state and family support. Health professionals who give puerperal consultations should consider the sociocultural environment in which the puerperal woman is inserted in order to link their beliefs with science.

Objective: The objective was to examine the effect of nursing consultation on the stress experienced by infertile couples before starting infertility treatment. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2017 to November 2018 among 120 infertile couples (240 patients) for whom stress was assessed. One hundred and thirteen patients of them who had a high infertility stress level were invited to participate in this randomized study (57 were assigned to the control group and 56 were included in the intervention group). The intervention group received nursing consultation based on Orem's theory and Bandura's concept in addition to the routine nursing care. Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) and General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) were used before and after nursing intervention. Statistical Analysis: The Chi-square test followed by a paired t-test and independent t-test was used for data analysis by SPSS software (version 20). Results and Discussion: There were no statistically significant differences before nursing intervention between the two groups in terms of PSS-10 (t = 1.18, P = 0.23) and GSES (t = −0.40, P = 0.689) scores, but a significant difference emerged in the intervention group following the nursing intervention: a reduction of the PSS score (t = −8.91, P = 0.000) and an increase in the GSES score (t = −5.25, P = 0.000, with 95% confidence interval (CI)). Conclusion: Nursing consultation has been shown to be beneficial in decreasing perceived stress and increased self-efficacy for infertile couples undergoing assisted reproductive technologies.

Objective: To identify the difficulties lived by the nurses during the Nursing Consultation in childcare to Haitian children in the Primary Health Care and the possibilities to overcome these challenges. Method: this is an exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach, conducted with ten nurses through an interview held in July 2018. The testimonies were submitted to Content Analysis. Results: From the data analysis, two categories emerged: Difficulties in the intercommunication between nurses and families of Haitian children and Cultural difficulties for the care of Haitian children. Conclusion: the results reveal difficulties in carrying out the Nursing Consultation for children, especially related to intercommunication, due to the language spoken by Haitians, and due to the cultural issues that permeate and support the care of children by families. To overcome the difficulties, nurses indicate the use of non-verbal communication, home visits to get to know the context and improve trust and bond with the families. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Since the establishment of the School of Nursing of the National Department of Public Health in 1923, the current Anna Nery Nursing School, undergraduate nursing education has changed substantially. This study aims to describe the experience report of a group of teachers in the process of choosing and teaching the Subjective, Objective, Evaluation and Prescription (SOAP) method in the Nursing course of the Pitágoras Faculty of Betim. This is a descriptive research, from a bibliographic review based on indexed data in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and isolated searches. The teaching process was tracked in four moments: Identification of the needing; Choice of method; Problematic workshop and Monitoring and Evaluation. Thus we understand that the adoption of active methodologies during Nursing training allows the construction of a reflective and critical professional of his praxis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• A tool which is receiving great attention during the COVID-19 pandemic is the telemedicine, defined as “services provision and health information divulgation through telecommunication and technology, connecting patients, experts and information”. Furthermore, the telemedicine became a great ally to health care, boosting changes and becoming the first defense line to retard a COVID-19 dissemination, because: • It provides nursing professionals a feasible way to perform routine consultations and telemonitoring/screening through video or audio calls with patients affected or not by COVID-19; • It provides better interprofessional interaction, improving the collaborative work in clinical procedures, diagnosis and in decision-making processes for therapeutic conducts; • It reduces the risk of in-hospital infection once the remote monitoring (depending on the patient’s condition) decreases the need of in person consultations.

- Abstract
Introduction: The functional results of radical prostatectomy are a crucial issue for patients to resume fulfilling sexuality. We assessed the feasibility of a care pathway dedicated to sexual rehabilitation in order to improve information, screening of risk situations and the implementation of therapeutic measures., Methods: From January to May 2023, sexually active patients under 75 years of age undergoing prostatectomy for cancer were offered the opportunity to participate in two sexual rehabilitation sessions (REHAB) led by a nurse-urologist pair. The sessions took place in parallel with the care pathway already in place before and after surgery. The evaluations were carried out by carrying out questionnaires and a clinical examination. A satisfaction questionnaire was given to the patient after the two sessions to assess the format and relevance of the sessions., Results: Fifteen patients were included in the REHAB program. All patients attended both sessions in person and the majority of them (91%) felt they had obtained new information for their rehabilitation. Post-operatively at 6 weeks, 82% of patients were dissatisfied with their sexuality (compared to 64% pre-operatively), Five patients (33%) had regained orgasmic abilities and 20% (n=3) had a penetrative ability. The average IIEF5 score was 19 (6-28) compared to 22.5 pre-operatively (14-30). All patients would recommend these sessions., Conclusion: The REHAB sexual rehabilitation program after prostatectomy could be implemented with significant patient adherence and satisfaction., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Masson SAS. It has high rates of mortality and morbidity, expressed as high rates of hospitalizations and re-hospitalizations, even in patients submitted to new therapies, especially ACEI and beta-blockers. OBJECTIVE: This study is the analysis of the impact that the nursing consultation has on the frequency of hospitalizations in patients with HF living in the city of Curitiba, state of Parana and its metropolitan region. METHOD: Patients with a iagnosis of HF and New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional classification, with telephone access, living in the city of Curitiba or its metropolitan region, life expectancy > 3 months due to non-cardiac diseases, aged 18 or older, non-users of illicit drugs. The groups were created by simple random allocation (drawing lots) and one group received the usual medical care, nursing consultation and telephone monitoring every 15 days of educational nature, intervention group (IG), whereas the other group received the usual medical care, monthly telephone monitoring of administrative and epidemiological nature, control group (CG). The follow-up was carried out for 6 months. RESULTS: The IG needed 0.25±0.79 and the CG needed 1.10 ±1.41; p = 0.037 hospitalizations. CONCLUSION: The nursing consultation promotes the decrease in the frequency of hospitalizations in patients with HF undergoing treatment and living in the city of Curitiba and its metropolitan region.
