Abstract

A “4-{[1-(2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)ethylidene]amino}-1,5-dimethyl-2-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one” chemosensor (C1) synthesized by Condensation reaction using “4-amino-1,2-dihydro-1,5-dimethyl-2-phenylpyrazol-3-one” and “2,5-dihydroxy Actophenone”. It shows absorption peak at 326 nm due to the C=C bond (π-π* transition), while the absorption peak at 364 nm is caused by the C=O bond (n-π* transition). In the presence of copper C1 only demonstrated a change in absorption peak to higher wavelength (redshift) from 364 to 425 nm. The hue of both the C1+Cu(II) complex changed from bright yellow to dark brown colour with hypochromic shift appearance of a new peak at 425 nm. Even in the presence of other competing metal ions, the hypsochromic shift of the absorption band and the quenching of the fluorescence emission intensity were different for detecting Cu2+, in CH3OH-H2O (v/v = 6:4). Job's plot was used to compute the binding stoichiometry between C1 and Cu2+, and MASS and FTIR spectrophotometry were used to investigate the complexation process. The capacity of the C1 to bind Cu2+ was further proven using DFT simulations. The complex S1+Cu2+ has a HOMO-LUMO energy gap of 2.8002 eV, which is lesser than S1 (2.9991 eV). From these results, it can be seen that the specific binding of S1 to Cu2+ improves the stability of the S1+Cu2+ complex and effectively reduces the HOMO-LUMO energy gap. The C1 was successfully used in a real-world water sample analysis. Using the Benesi-Hildebrand and Scatchard plots, the Kb was calculated and found to be 47340M-1 and 48369M-1 respectively, showing the creation of stable complexation between Cu2+ and S1 with 1:1 Stoichiometry. The LOD of S1 for Cu2+ ion analysis was determined to be 649 nM. Strip sheets were also built and tested to detect varying amounts of Cu2+ aqueous solution, and their color change suggested that they might be used for on-site Cu2+ detection in polluted water.

Abstract

In the present investigation, a novel biosensor (GCE/PTH/MWCNT/NR) based on the nanocomposite of polythiophene (PTH) and multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) immobilized by nitrate reductase (NR) was designed and made on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). PTH and its composite with MWCNT were prepared by in situ oxidative polymerization. The structural features and surface morphologies of the composites were investigated by the standard analytical techniques, namely, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Measurements of the electrochemical performance and electrocatalytic activity of GCE/PTH/MWCNT/NR were carried out by cyclic voltammetry at different scan rates (20–100 mV s−1) in artificially polluted water containing nitrate ions. This laboratory-developed bio-electrode attained a maximum current density of 5.12 mAcm−2 at a scan rate of 100 mVs−1 for 8.0 mM sodium nitrate solution.

Abstract

Background:: While significant strides have been made to avoid mortality during the treatment of chronic diseases, it is still one of the biggest health-care challenges that have a profound effect on humanity. The development of specific, sensitive, accurate, quick, low-cost, and easy-to-use diagnostic tools is therefore still in urgent demand. Nanodiagnostics is defined as the application of nanotechnology to medical diagnostics that can offer many unique opportunities for more successful and efficient diagnosis and treatment for infectious diseases. Methods:: In this review we provide an overview of infectious disease using nanodiagnostics platforms based on nanoparticles, nanodevices for point-of-care (POC) applications. Results:: Current state-of-the-art and most promising nanodiagnostics POC technologies, including miniaturized diagnostic tools, nanorobotics and drug delivery systems have been fully examined for the diagnosis of diseases. It also addresses the drawbacks, problems and potential developments of nanodiagnostics in POC applications for chronic diseases. Conclusions:: While progress is gaining momentum in this field and many researchers have dedicated their time in developing new smart nanodevices for POC applications for various chronic diseases, the ultimate aim of achieving longterm, reliable and continuous patient monitoring has not yet been achieved. Moreover, the applicability of the manufactured nanodevices to rural patients for on-site diagnosis, cost, and usability are the crucial aspects that require more research, improvements, and potential testing stations. Therefore, more research is needed to develop the demonstrated smart nanodevices and upgrade their applicability to hospitals away from the laboratories.

Abstract

An efficient co-precipitation followed by ultrasonication process is used for the synthesis of trimetallic MgZnFeO nanocomposites (MZFONCs) and further characterized by FE-SEM, FT-IR, XRD, EDX, etc. spectroscopic techniques. The adsorption process is applied for the removal of toxic cationic Basic Fuchsine (BF) dye using batch experiments. To enhance removal efficiency, the effect of deviation in parameters including shaking time; adsorbent dose; pH; etc. are studied. Qmax obtained by Langmuir is found to be 250 mg/g for BF on the MZFONCs surface, at pH = 6.5; 40 min of agitation time, and a small dose of nanoparticles. The best match for the adsorption of BF on MZFONCs is a double-layer method which also describes the adsorption mechanism. The ‘n’ parameter value (0.507–0.628) is obtained from the statistical physics model, which shows mixed-orientation type adsorption of BF molecules on MZFONCs adsorbents. The calculated energies for BF dye adsorption are found to be less than 30 KJ/mol, hence implying an endothermic and physical adsorption mechanism.
