Abstract

Electromagnetic polarizabilities are fundamental properties of the proton that characterize its response to an external electromagnetic (EM) field. The generalization of the EM polarizabilities to non-zero four-momentum transfer opens up a powerful path to study the internal structure of the proton. They map out the spatial distribution of the polarization densities in the proton, provide access to key dynamical mechanisms that contribute to the electric and magnetic polarizability effects, and allow for the determination of fundamental characteristics of the system, such as the electric and magnetic polarizability radii. This article reviews our knowledge about proton EM generalized polarizabilities (GPs). An introduction is given to the basic concepts and the theoretical framework, which is then followed by a discussion that emphasizes the recent developments and findings of the virtual Compton scattering (VCS) experiments and future perspectives on the topic. Abstract

Within the Basis Light-Front Quantization framework, we systematically investigate the subleading twist (twist-3) transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) of the proton beyond the Wandzura-Wilczek (WW) approximation. The subleading twist TMDs are not independent and can be decomposed into twist-2 and genuine twist-3 terms from the equations of motion. The latter involves quark-quark-gluon correlations and contains interferences between two light-front Fock sectors, |qqq〉 and |qqqg〉, which are usually neglected in the WW approximation. This work provides new nonperturbative input for future experiments at the EicC and EIC on high-twist effects, especially interference effects among multiple partons.

The axial-vector form factor of the nucleons is studied at a finite temperature using the holographic soft-wall model with the thermal dilaton field. We use the bulk interaction action known from the zero temperature case and apply the profile functions of fields thermalized by the interaction with the thermal dilaton field. Abstract

New results for the T 20 -component of the tensor-analyzing power of the incoherent negative pion photoproduction are presented. The experiment was performed for the electron beam energy of 800 MeV at the VEPP-3 storage ring in 2021. To extract the T 20 -component, we used asymmetry with respect to the change in the sign of the tensor polarization of the deuteron target. Identification of the reaction events was carried out by the detection of two protons in coincidence. Abstract

The QCD effective charge αg1(Q) is an observable that characterizes the magnitude of the strong interaction. At high momentum Q, it coincides with the QCD running coupling αs(Q). At low Q, it offers a nonperturbative definition of the running coupling. We have extracted αg1(Q) from measurements carried out at Jefferson Lab that span the very low to moderately high Q domain, 0.14≤Q≤2.18 GeV. The precision of the new results is much improved over the previous extractions and the reach in Q at the lower end is significantly expanded. The data show that αg1(Q) becomes Q-independent at very low Q. They compare well with two recent predictions of the QCD effective charge based on Dyson–Schwinger equations and on the AdS/CFT duality.

15. Transverse momentum and transverse momentum distributions in the MIT bag model

Abstract

The typical transverse momentum of a quark in the proton is a basic property of any QCD based model of nucleon structure. However, calculations in phenomenological models typically give rather small values of transverse momenta, which are difficult to reconcile with the larger values observed in high energy experiments such as Drell-Yan reactions and Semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. In this letter we calculate the leading twist transverse momentum dependent distribution functions (TMDs) using a generalization of the Adelaide group's relativistic formalism that has previously given good fits to the parton distributions. This enables us to examine the kT dependence of the TMDs in detail, and determine typical widths of these distributions. These are found to be significantly larger than those of previous calculations. We then use TMD factorization in order to evolve these distributions up to experimental scales where we can compare with data on 〈kT〉 and 〈kT2〉. Our distributions agree well with this data.

Abstract

This paper presents new results for the T 2 0 -component of the tensor analyzing power of the reaction γ d → p n π 0 in the photon energy range of 3 0 0 MeV < E γ < 5 0 0 MeV. The experimental statistics accumulated in 2013 at the VEPP-3 accelerator-storage complex is used. The reaction events are identified by the coincidence registration of the proton and two γ -quanta from the decay of the neutral pion. To determine the T 2 0 -component, the asymmetry of the yields with respect to the change of sign of the tensor polarization of the deuterium target is measured. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical calculations in which the MAID 2007 model is used as the elementary pion–nucleon photoproduction amplitude and contributions from the pion–nucleon and nucleon–nucleon rescattering are taken into account. Abstract

The study reviews basic approximation dependences for the isoscalar electric form factors of the proton GEp and the neutron GEn. The peculiarities of their obtaining and subsequent application for approximation by experimental data are analyzed. The basic experimental data of nucleon electric form factors are described. Using the approximation dependences of this review, corresponding parameters were obtained for the electric form factors of the nucleons GEp and GEN. In most cases, they generally describe the experimental data fairly well. The best parameterizations for describing experimental data of the electric proton form factor GEp are polynomials and polynomial ratios. Experimental measurements of the electric neutron form factor GEN are best described by the Galster parameterization. The quality of the approximation for the electric nucleon form factors is controlled by determining the charge radius of proton rEp and neutron rEN. According to the approximation dependences of the electric nucleon form factors and the deuteron wave functions in the coordinate representation for Reid93 and CD-Bonn potentials and DDM model, the deuteron charge form factor GC(p) is calculated. The theoretical values of the form factor GC(p) are compared with the experimental data of the leading collaborations and reviews. Depending on the choice of electric nucleon form factors, the secondary maximum for the deuteron charge form factor GC(p) is located for Reid93 potential in the momentum range at p = 5:60-5.80 fm-1, for CD-Bonn potential at p = 6:00-6.40 fm-1 and for model DDM at p = 5:45-5.65 fm-1. The zero position is located at the momentum p0 = 4:60 fm-1 for Reid93 potential, p0 = 5:05 fm-1 for CD-Bonn potential and p0 = 4:45 fm-1 for DDM model. The numerical values of the root-mean-square charge rch and the structural rstr deuteron radius are in good agreement with the results of experimental and other theoretical data. Using the obtained parameters of approximation dependences for isoscalar nucleon electric form factors and known magnetic nucleon form factors, in further studies we can calculate the structure functions A(p), B(p), the components of tensor and vector deuteron polarizations tij(p), and tensor analyzing power Ayy and other polarization observables. Abstract

The emission of the hard photon from the initial state is considered. The nucleon polarization and the differential cross sections for some experimental conditions have been calculated. The case of the emission of the collinear (with respect to the direction of the electron beam momentum) photon is considered separately. The differential cross section, the nucleon polarization, the correlation coefficients for both polarized nucleons (provided the electron beam is unpolarized or longitudinally polarized), the transfer polarization from the longitudinally polarized electron beam to the nucleon have been calculated. The photon energy distribution for the reaction e⁺e⁻ → h₁h₂γ where h₁ and h₂ are some hadrons for the case of the collinear photon, emitted in the initial state, has been calculated. As h₁h₂ final state we considered some channels, namely: two spinless mesons (for example,π⁺π⁻K⁺K⁻), two spin–one particles (for example, ρ⁺ρ⁻d⁺d⁻), and the channels πa₁ (1260) and Δ(1232)Ñ . The photon energy distributions are calculated in terms of the form factors of the γ* → h₁h₂ transition (γ* is the virtual photon).

The paper presents the results of measurements of the tensor analyzing power component T 2 0 for the coherent neutral pion photoproduction on the deuteron. The measurements were performed in the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics using the internal tensor polarized deuterium target at VEPP-3 storage ring. The measurements covered the region of the photon energy 240 — 420 MeV and the region of the center-of-mass pion polar angle 100–140 ∘ . 20. Evaluation of the two lightest quark masses

Abstract

Simple relations between the masses of the two lightest up and down quarks were obtained on the basis of the simple physically based model compatible with the present-day theory of strong interactions, i.e. with quantum chromodynamics. Relations between the u and d quark masses, on one hand, and nucleon and pion masses, on the other hand, are also established. Thus, the obtained in such a way elementary formula mu/md = 1/(1+√2), relating u and d quark masses, appears to be in excellent agreement with a number of theoretical calculations of the ratio mu/md of the lightest quark masses. The u and d quark masses mu = 1.903 MeV, md = 4.594 MeV, calculated with the help of the obtained relations, are also in very good agreement with the modern evaluations and calculations of these quantities. The average of the u and d quark masses m̅ud = ΔMπ/√2 ≅ 3.248 MeV, obtained in the proposed approach, is in good agreement with previous calculations too.

Abstract

I first emphasize the importance of searching for nucleon decay in the context of supersymmetric models. The status of minimal SUSY SU(5) model is reviewed, which can be definitively ruled out by a combination of superKamiokande and LEP-2 experiments. Non-minimal models may provide some suppression in the nucleon decay rates, but there is still a good chance for superKamiokande. I point out that the operators suppressed even by the Planck-scale are too large. We need a suppression mechanism for the operators at the level of 10-7, and the mechanism, I argue, may well be a flavor symmetry. A particular example predicts p --> K0e+ to be the dominant mode which does not arise in GUT models.

η-meson photoproduction on the proton was studied by using the effective Lagrangian approach at the tree-level in energy range from treshold up to 1.87 GeV. Besides the Born and vector-meson terms, S11 (1535), S11 (1650) and D13 (1520), were included in the calculation of the transition amplitudes. The role of the D13 resonance was investigated according to the simple and complete formulation of the spin-3/2 propagator. In this paper we explore this crucial Regge behavior in Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering from the point of view of collinear factorization, with the proton tensor written in terms of Generalized Parton Distributions, and we reproduce this feature. Thus it appears that in the Bjorken limit, a large class of hard, low-t exclusive processes are more sensitive to the meson cloud of the proton than to its fundamental quark structure. These process will then be described most efficiently by process- dependent Regge Exclusive Amplitudes rather than by universal Generalized Parton Distributions. Abstract

In this Letter, the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antitriton$-$nucleus interactions is reported, covering the momentum range of $0.8 \leq p < 2.4$ GeV/$c$. The measurement is carried out using data recorded with the ALICE detector in pp and Pb$-$Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon of 13 TeV and 5.02 TeV, respectively. The detector material serves as an absorber for antitriton nuclei. The raw yield of (anti)triton nuclei measured with the ALICE apparatus is compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the GEANT4 toolkit for the propagation of (anti)particles through matter, allowing one to quantify the inelastic interaction probability in the detector material. This analysis complements the measurement of the inelastic cross section of antinuclei up to $A=3$ carried out by the ALICE Collaboration, and demonstrates the feasibility of the study of the isospin dependence of inelastic interaction cross section with the analysis techniques presented in this Letter., 20 pages, 2 captioned figures, authors from page 14, submitted to PLB, figures at http://alice-publications.web.cern.ch/node/9480

Abstract

We present an analysis to extract kaon parton distribution functions (PDFs) for the first time using meson-induced Drell-Yan and quarkonium production data. Starting from the statistical model first developed for determining the partonic structure of spin-1/2 nucleon and later applied to the spin-0 pion, we have extended this approach to perform a global fit to existing kaon-induced Drell-Yan and $J/\psi$ production data. These data are well described by the statistical model, allowing a first extraction of the kaon PDFs. We find that both the Drell-Yan and the $J/\psi$ data favor a harder valence distribution for strange quark than for up quark in kaon. The kaon gluon distribution is further constrained by the $J/\psi$ production data. Abstract

The status of the experimental and theoretical investigations of the nucleon is presented. This includes a confirmation of the validity of the previously introduced recommended polarizabilities. It is shown that the only meaningful approach to a prediction of the polarizabilities is obtained from nonsubtracted dispersion theory, where the appropriate degrees of freedon taken from other precise experimental data are taken into account. The present values of the recommended polarizabilities are \(\alpha_p=12.0\pm 0.5\), \(\beta_p=1.9\mp 0.5\), \(\alpha_n=12.6\pm 1.2\), \(\beta_n=2.6\mp 1.2\) in units of \(10^{-4}\)fm\(^3\) and \(\gamma^{(p)}_\pi =-36.4 \pm 1.5\), \(\gamma^{(n)}_\pi=+58.6\pm 4.0\), \(\gamma^{(p)}_0= -0.58\pm 0.20\), \(\gamma^{(n)}_0=+0.38\pm 0.22\) in units of \(10^{-4}\)fm\(^4\).

Abstract

We study the contribution of the chromo-electric field to the total energy of the hadrons. We analyze the case of quarks considered as extended sources of the field. Specific forms of the interaction potential of the quarks are obtained. Moreover, the color charge distribution of these sources allows to determine the zero-point energy that is commonly introduced, as a free (independent) parameter, in the total quark model Hamiltonian of the hadronic systems. The ground states of charmonium (qq̄) and nucleon (qqq) are studied in more detail: their mass is calculated within a relativized dynamical model and the expectation value of the chromo-electric field energy is consistently obtained.

Abstract

We initiate the study of transverse momentum-dependent (TMD) fragmentation functions for heavy quarks, demonstrate their factorization in terms of novel nonperturbative matrix elements in heavy-quark effective theory (HQET), and prove new TMD sum rules that arise from heavy-quark spin symmetry. We discuss the phenomenology of heavy-quark TMD FFs at $B$ factories and find that the Collins effect, in contrast to claims in the literature, is not parametrically suppressed by the heavy-quark mass. We further calculate all TMD parton distribution functions for the production of heavy quarks from polarized gluons within the nucleon and use our results to demonstrate the potential of the future EIC to resolve TMD heavy-quark fragmentation in semi-inclusive DIS, complementing the planned EIC program to use heavy quarks as probes of gluon distributions., 42 pages + references, 7 figures

Abstract

There is increasing interest in using high-energy collisions to probe the structure of nuclei, in particular with the high-precision data made possible by collisions performed with pairs of isobaric species. A systematic study requires a variation of parameters representing nuclear properties such as radius, skin thickness, angular deformation, and short-range correlations, to determine the sensitivity of the various observables on each of these properties. In this work we propose a method for efficiently carrying out such study, based on the shifting of positions of nucleons in Monte-Carlo samples. We show that by using this method, statistical demands can be dramatically reduced -- potentially reducing the required number of simulated events by orders of magnitude -- paving the way for systematic study of nuclear structure in high-energy collisions, Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures

The proposed book consists of two parts and is devoted to the systematic analysis of quantum mechanics and the modern theory of electromagnetic phenomena. Some inaccuracies of the application of mathematics in theoretical physics are discussed. Abstract

International audience; The polarized cross section ratio $\sigma_{LT'}/\sigma_{0}$ from hard exclusive $\pi^{-} \Delta^{++}$ electroproduction off an unpolarized hydrogen target has been extracted based on beam-spin asymmetry measurements using a 10.2 GeV / 10.6 GeV incident electron beam and the CLAS12 spectrometer at Jefferson Lab. The study, which provides the first observation of this channel in the deep-inelastic regime, focuses on very forward-pion kinematics in the valence regime, and photon virtualities ranging from 1.5 GeV$^{2}$ up to 7 GeV$^{2}$. The reaction provides a novel access to the $d$-quark content of the nucleon and to $p \rightarrow \Delta^{++}$ transition generalized parton distributions. A comparison to existing results for hard exclusive $\pi^{+} n$ and $\pi^{0} p$ electroproduction is provided, which shows a clear impact of the excitation mechanism, encoded in transition generalized parton distributions, on the asymmetry.

Abstract

The non-singlet helicity quark parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the nucleon are determined from lattice QCD, by jointly leveraging pseudo-distributions and the distillation spatial smearing paradigm. A Lorentz decomposition of appropriately isolated space-like matrix elements reveals pseudo-distributions that contain information on the leading-twist helicity PDFs, as well as an invariant amplitude that induces an additional $z^2$ contamination of the leading-twist signal. An analysis of the short-distance behavior of the space-like matrix elements using matching coefficients computed to next-to-leading order (NLO) exposes the desired PDF up to this additional $z^2$ contamination. Due to the non-conservation of the axial current, we elect to isolate the helicity PDFs normalized by the nucleon axial charge at the same scale $\mu^2$. The leading-twist helicity PDFs as well as several sources of systematic error, including higher-twist effects, discretization errors, and the aforementioned $z^2$ contaminating amplitude are jointly determined by characterizing the computed pseudo-distribution in a basis of Jacobi polynomials. The Akaike Information Criterion is exploited to effectively average over distinct model parameterizations and cuts on the pseudo-distribution. Encouraging agreement is observed with recent global analyses of each non-singlet quark helicity PDF, notably a rather small non-singlet anti-quark helicity PDF for all quark momentum fractions., Comment: 32 pages, 38 figures

The paper presents the results of measurement of three tensor analyzing power components for the incoherent π 0 -meson photoproduction on a deuteron in the photon energy range of 250 – 500 MeV, the proton energy range of 15 – 200 MeV, and the neutron energy range of 15 – 150 MeV. The incoherent π 0 -meson electroproduction on a deuteron was used as a source of quasireal photons for the incoherent π 0 -meson photoproduction. The experiment was performed using an internal tensor-polarized gas deuterium target of the VEPP-3 electron storage ring by the proton-neutron coincidence method. Abstract

Within the standard V − A theory of weak interactions, Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) and the linear σ -model (L σ M) of strong low-energy hadronic interactions we analyze gauge and infrared properties of hadronic structure of the neutron and proton in the neutron β − -decay to leading order in the large nucleon mass expansion. We show that the complete set of Feynman diagrams describing radiative corrections of order O (α / π) , induced by hadronic structure of the nucleon, to the rate of the neutron β − -decay is gauge noninvariant and unrenormalizable. We show that a gauge noninvariant contribution does not depend on the electron energy in agreement with Sirlin's analysis of contributions of strong low-energy interactions (Phys. Rev.164, 1767 (1967)). We show that infrared divergent and dependent on the electron energy contributions from the neutron radiative β − -decay and neutron β − -decay, caused by hadronic structure of the nucleon, are canceled in the neutron lifetime. Nevertheless, we find that divergent contributions of virtual photon exchanges to the neutron lifetime, induced by hadronic structure of the nucleon, are unrenormalizable even formally. Such an unrenormalizability can be explained by the fact that the effective V − A vertex of hadron–lepton current–current interactions is not a vertex of the combined quantum field theory including QED and L σ M , which are renormalizable theories. We assert that for a consistent gauge invariant and renormalizable analysis of contributions of hadronic structure of the nucleon to the radiative corrections of any order to the neutron decays one has to use a gauge invariant and fully renormalizable quantum field theory including the Standard Electroweak Model (SEM) and the L σ M , where the effective V − A vertex of hadron–lepton current–current interactions is caused by the W − -electroweak-boson exchange. 41. Electroproduction of baryon–meson states and strangeness suppression

Abstract

We describe the electroproduction ratios of baryon–meson states from nucleon, inferring from the sea quarks in the nucleon using an extension of the quark model that takes into account the sea. As a result we provide, with no adjustable parameters, the predictions of ratios of exclusive meson–baryon final states: ΛK+, Σ⁎K, ΣK, pπ0, and nπ+. These predictions are in agreement with the new JLab experimental data showing that sea quarks play an important role in the electroproduction. We also predicted further ratios of exclusive reactions that can be measured and tested in future experiments. In particular, we suggested new experiments on deuterium and tritium. Such measurements can provide crucial tests of different predictions concerning the structure of nucleon and its sea quarks helping to solve an outstanding problem. Finally, we compute the so called strangeness suppression factor, λs, that is the suppression of strange quark–antiquark pairs compared to nonstrange pairs, and we found that our finding with this simple extension of the quark model is in good agreement with the results of JLab and CERN experiments.

Abstract

Three-body $AAB$ model for the $NN{\bar K}(s_{NN}=0)$ kaonic cluster is considered based on the configuration space Faddeev equations. Within a single-channel approach, the difference between masses of nucleons and kaons and the charge independence breaking of nucleon-nucleon interaction are taken into consideration. We definite the particle configurations in the system according to the particle masses and pair potentials. There are two sets of the particle configurations, $ ppK^-$, $np \bar{K^0}$ and $nn {\bar K}^0$, $npK^-$, charged and neutral. The three-body calculations are performed by applying $NN$ and $N\bar K$ phenomenological isospin-dependent potentials. The mass and energy spectra related to the particle configurations are presented. We evaluate the mass and energy uncertainties for the $NN\bar K$ model. An analogy to $NNN$ model for the $^3$H and $^3$He nuclei is proposed.

Abstract

We present the conceptual design and the physics potential of DarkSPHERE, a proposed 3 m in diameter spherical proportional counter electroformed underground at the Boulby Underground Laboratory. This effort builds on the R&D performed and experience acquired by the NEWS-G Collaboration. DarkSPHERE is primarily designed to search for nuclear recoils from light dark matter in the 0.05--10 GeV mass range. Electroforming the spherical shell and the implementation of a shield based on pure water ensures a background level below 0.01 dru. These, combined with the proposed helium-isobutane gas mixture, will provide sensitivity to the spin-independent nucleon cross-section of $2\times 10^{-41} (2\times 10^{-43})$ cm$^2$ for a dark matter mass of $0.1 (1)$ GeV. The use of a hydrogen-rich gas mixture with a natural abundance of $^{13}$C provides sensitivity to spin-dependent nucleon cross-sections more than two orders of magnitude below existing constraints for dark matter lighter than 1 GeV. The characteristics of the detector also make it suitable for searches of other dark matter signatures, including scattering of MeV-scale dark matter with electrons, and super-heavy dark matter with masses around the Planck scale that leave extended ionisation tracks in the detector., 18 pages, 13 figures

Abstract

We calculate the nucleon electric dipole moment (EDM) from the $\theta$ term with overlap fermions on three domain wall lattices with different sea pion masses at lattice spacing 0.11 fm. Due to the chiral symmetry conserved by the overlap fermions, we have well defined topological charge and chiral limit for the EDM. Thus, the chiral extrapolation can be carried out reliably at nonzero lattice spacings. We use three to four different partially quenched valence pion masses for each sea pion mass and find that the EDM dependence on the valence and sea pion masses behaves oppositely, which can be described by partially quenched chiral perturbation theory. With the help of the cluster decomposition error reduction (CDER) technique, we determine the neutron and proton EDM at the physical pion mass to be $d_{n}=-0.00148\left(14\right)\left(31\right)\bar\theta$ e$\cdot$fm and $d_{p}=0.0038\left(11\right)\left(8\right)\bar\theta$ e$\cdot$fm. Abstract

International audience; A measurement of ${{D}} ^0$ meson production by the LHCb experiment in its fixed-target configuration is presented. The production of ${{D}} ^0$ mesons is studied with a beam of 2.5 $\,\text {Te\hspace{-1.00006pt}V}$ protons colliding on a gaseous neon target at rest, corresponding to a nucleon–nucleon centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{\scriptscriptstyle \text {NN}}} = 68.5\,\,\text {Ge\hspace{-1.00006pt}V} $. The sum of the ${{D}} ^0$ and ${\hspace{0.0pt}\overline{\hspace{0.0pt}{D}}} {}^0$ production cross-section in $p\text {Ne}$ collisions in the centre-of-mass rapidity range $y^{\star }\in [-2.29, 0]$ is found to be $\sigma _{D^{0}}^{y^\star \in [-2.29, 0]} = 48.2 \pm 0.3 \pm 4.5 \,\upmu \text {b}/\text {nucleon}$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The ${{{D}} ^0}-{{\hspace{0.0pt}\overline{\hspace{0.0pt}{D}}} {}^0} $ production asymmetry is also evaluated and suggests a trend towards negative values at large negative $y^{\star }$. The considered models do not account precisely for all the features observed in the LHCb data, but theoretical predictions including 1$\%$ intrinsic charm and 10$\%$ recombination contributions better describe the data than the other models considered.

Abstract

The interactions of kaons (K) and antikaons ($\mathrm{\overline{K}}$) with few nucleons (N) were studied so far using kaonic atom data and measurements of kaon production and interaction yields in nuclei. Some details of the three-body KNN and $\mathrm{\overline{K}}$NN dynamics are still not well understood, mainly due to the overlap with multi-nucleon interactions in nuclei. An alternative method to probe the dynamics of three-body systems with kaons is to study the final state interaction within triplet of particles emitted in pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, which are free from effects due to the presence of bound nucleons. This Letter reports the first femtoscopic study of p$-$p$-$K$^+$ and p$-$p$-$K$^-$ correlations measured in high-multiplicity pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The analysis shows that the measured p$-$p$-$K$^+$ and p$-$p$-$K$^-$ correlation functions can be interpreted in terms of pairwise interactions in the triplets, indicating that the dynamics of such systems is dominated by the two-body interactions without significant contributions from three-body effects or bound states., Comment: 19 pages, 3 captioned figures, authors from page 14, submitted to EPJA, figures at http://alice-publications.web.cern.ch/node/9212

Abstract

Physical review / D 107(5), 054504 (2023). doi:10.1103/PhysRevD.107.054504, We present the first calculation of the Mellin moments of the transverse quark spin densities in the nucleon using lattice QCD simulations with physical values of the pion mass and in the continuum limit. Specifically, we use three $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermion gauge ensembles each at different lattice spacings. The densities are extracted from the unpolarized and transversity generalized form factors. The first moment of transversely polarized quarks in an unpolarized nucleon shows an interesting distortion, which can be traced back to the sharp falloff of the transversity generalized form factor $\bar{B}_{Tn0}(Q^2)$. The isovector tensor anomalous magnetic moment is determined to be $κ_T=1.051(94)$, which confirms a negative and large Boer-Mulders function, $h_1^⊥$, in the nucleon., Published by Inst., Woodbury, NY

Abstract

The Feynman-Hellmann approach to computing matrix elements in lattice QCD by first adding a perturbing operator to the action is described using the transition matrix and the Dyson expansion formalism. This perturbs the energies in the two-point baryon correlation function, from which the matrix element can be obtained. In particular at leading order in the perturbation we need to diagonalise a matrix of near-degenerate energies. While the method is general for all hadrons, we apply it here to a study of a Sigma to Nucleon baryon transition vector matrix element.
