A new species of Callophyllis from Peter the Great Bay, Sea of Japan, Russia, is recognized based on the morphological and molecular analyses of rbcL and nrLSU sequences. We name this new species C. eduardii sp. nov. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that C. eduardii is distinct from other Callophyllis species and sister to a diverse group that includes monocarpogonial species from the northeastern Pacific and species from the Russian Pacific coast. Callophyllis eduardii is characterized by diminutive thalli, narrow anastomosing branches with acute apices and smooth margins and cystocarps, without an ostiole, scattered over the blade and at the margins in the middle and upper part of the thallus. This is the ninth species of the genus found in Russian waters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
