Background: This study aims to evaluate systemic immune inflammation index, systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), aggregate index of systemic inflammation (AISI), and follistatin-like protein-1 (FSTL-1) levels in children with pneumonia and healthy controls. Methods: The study was carried out at the Seydisehir State Hospital between February 1, 2024 and June 1, 2024. The patient group included 44 children diagnosed with pneumonia and the control group included 45 healthy children without any disease. Index values obtained from hemogram data. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure FSTL-1 levels. Results: A total of 89 participants, 44 in the patient group and 45 in the healthy control group, were included in the study. White blood cells, monocyte, eosinophil, neutrophil, c-reactive protein, SIRI, and AISI levels were significantly higher in the patient group than in the control group. FSTL-1 levels were higher in the patient group, but did not differ statistically significant. The patient and control groups were compared in the receiver operating characteristics analysis, we found the highest area under curve (AUC) in the SIRI (AUC: 0.754) and AISI (AUC: 0.713) parameters. Conclusion: In conclusion, compared to healthy controls, SIRI and AISI levels were significantly higher in the patient group, and the highest AUC values belonged to these indices. Therefore, we believe that SIRI and AISI indices, which are inexpensive and simple tests, are useful for early diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: This study aimed to evaluate six novel lymphocyte‐based inflammatory markers (neutrophil‐lymphocyte ratio, monocyte‐lymphocyte ratio, platelet‐lymphocyte ratio [PLR], systemic immune inflammation index [SII], systemic inflammatory response index, and systemic immune inflammation response index [SIIRI]) in patients with newly diagnosed coronary artery disease [CAD]. Methods: A total of 959 patients newly diagnosed with CAD and underwent diagnostic coronary angiography were enrolled in this study and followed for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), including cardiovascular death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, and nonfatal stroke. The best cutoff value was used to compare the six indicators. Cox risk regression analysis evaluated the relationship between novel lymphocyte‐based inflammatory markers and MACEs in newly diagnosed CAD patients. Results: During a mean follow‐up period of 33.3 ± 9.9 months, 229 (23.9%) MACEs were identified. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that only SIIRI (hazard ratio [HR]: 5.853; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 4.092–8.371; p <.001) and PLR (HR: 1.725; 95% CI: 1.214–2.452; p =.002) were independent predictors of MACEs. Nevertheless, following the adjustment for covariates, only the SIIRI was found to be a significant predictor MACEs and its corresponding specific endpoint occurrences. The predictive ability of the model was improved when six different inflammatory markers were added to the basic model established by traditional risk factors, namely, the C‐index increased, and the SIIRI increased most significantly (AUC: 0.778; 95% CI: 0.743–0.812; p <.001). However, among the six novel inflammatory markers, only SIIRI had improved net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) (NRI: 0.187; 95% CI: 0.115–0.259, p <.001. IDI: 0.135; 95% CI: 0.111–0.159, p <.001), which was superior to the basic model established by traditional risk factors. Conclusions: SIIRI is independent predictor of MACEs in newly diagnosed CAD patients. SIIRI was superior to other measures in predicting MACEs. ABSTRACT Background Vitamin D is the focus of extensive medical research globally. Recent studies have investigated the correlation between serum 25‐hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and common inflammatory markers. However, few studies have incorporated novel inflammatory markers such as the platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (PLR), platelet‐to‐high density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (PHR), systemic inflammatory index (SII), neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR), systemic inflammatory response (SIRI), and neutrophil‐to‐high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHR). This study investigated these correlations among adults in the USA. Methods We ultimately included a total of 5308 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database spanning 2007 to 2018. A multivariable linear regression model assessed the links between serum 25(OH)D and these novel inflammatory markers, with subgroup analyses for hypertension and diabetes. To further explore the relationship between the two, we applied smooth curve fittings and generalized additive models. Upon detecting nonlinear relationships, we used a recursive algorithm to pinpoint the inflection point. Results In our multivariate linear regression model, serum 25(OH)D concentrations were negatively correlated with NHR (β = −0.003, 95% CI: −0.005 to −0.001), NLR (β = −0.002, 95% CI: −0.003 to 0.000), SII (β = −0.579, 95% CI: −0.954 to −0.205), PHR (β = −0.171, 95% CI: −0.249 to −0.093), and PLR (β = −0.096, 95% CI: −0.051 to −0.040) among adults in the USA. Nevertheless, no significant association was found with SIRI (β = −0.001, 95% CI: −0.002 to 0.000). Subgroup analysis by hypertension and diabetes showed that in the hypertensive group, serum 25(OH)D was significantly and negatively associated with NHR, NLR, SII, SIRI, PHR, and PLR. However, no correlation was found in the diabetic group between serum 25(OH)D levels and these inflammatory markers. Conclusions Our research confirms that serum 25(OH)D levels are negatively correlated with several novel inflammatory markers among adults in the USA, suggesting potential directions for further research into vitamin D's role in inflammation.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE), clinically manifested as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or acute pulmonary embolism (PE), is the third most common acute cardiovascular syndrome following myocardial infarction and stroke. The annual incidence of PE is between 39 and 115 per 100,000 inhabitants. The incidence of VTE is almost eight times higher in people aged 80 and older than in the fifth decade of life. We performed a retrospective study of 226 COVID-19 patients and selected group of patients who experienced a pulmonary thrombotic event. The incidence of PE in hospitalized COVID-19 patients was approximately 1.9-8.9%. The retrospective nature of the analyzed cohorts and relatively short observation periods could have led to underestimation of the actual incidence of PE. This study underlines the role of novel inflammatory biomarkers such as neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio and platelet to lymphocyte ratio in patients with a pulmonary thrombotic event in COVID-19. We suggest that these biomarkers may have high assessment value and complement routinely used biomarkers.

Objective: The novel inflammatory markers C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were associated with the disease activity of many autoimmune diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of these new inflammatory indexes with relapsing polychondritis disease activity index (RPDAI). Methods: The data of relapsing polychondritis (RP) patients hospitalized between 2004 and 2020 at Peking Union Medical College Hospital were collected. One of the exclusive criteria was that RP patients overlapped with other diseases. Another was the RP patients with incomplete data. A total of 170 RP patients and 170 healthy controls (HCs) were included. The association of new inflammatory makers with RPDAI was assessed by Spearman's correlation analysis. Results: Compared to HCs, the CAR, NLR, and PLR were significantly higher in RP patients (both p < 0.001). The CAR, NLR, PLR, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and neutrophil counts in peripheral blood positively correlated with RPDAI. Blood albumin, lymphocyte count, hemoglobin (Hb) negatively correlated with RPDAI. The association of CAR, NLR, and PLR with RPDAI was demonstrated by Spearman's correlation analysis. Conclusion: The novel inflammatory markers CAR, NLR and PLR were associated with RPDAI. Introduction: Owing to harmful effects of inflammatory markers on occurrence and progression of diabetic complications, hence, studying the possible effect of chemical components on these markers seems to be effective in diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to assess whether the triethylenetetramine (TETA), as a copper chelator, affects the plasma level of inflammatory markers such as visfatin (Vis), cholinesterase (CholE), total sialic acid (TSA) and hepcidin (Hep) in streptozotocin- induced diabetes mellitus rat. Materials and methods: Thirty male Wistar rats were assigned for this study. After induction of diabetes mellitus, TETA with different doses (10, 20 and 40 mg/kg/day) was orally administrated for 6 months.
